#like well either this is about vocal range or it isn't and already i'm like No Gender Binary even when it's [vocals] edition
Text
oh yeah also have to shout out the young queer theatre-enjoyer (as doer or audience) with christian parent experience of "at least i can be in the choir & be one of like 2-4 tenors & enjoy singing harmonies & most of practice is just chilling b/c it's 95% playing the melody 50x for the twenty sopranos who still don't have it down" while also not having to deal with sitting in the midst of the pews or whatever
#an annoyance was the battle b/c [i'd want to sing louder anyways] & on the one hand kind of subsuming the Bass part b/c there were like#four or six of them & that was kind of a writeoff like they'll just be kind of singing whatever lol#on the other hand after the sopranos had sorta learned the melody line after 65 min the like two dozen of them also could be too readily#drowned out by a few tenors harmonizing. like that sounds like yet another them problem....#like i'm not singing loud loud Loud like whatever soprano would show up at the basilica in dc on xmas & treat it as a concert solo but.#like; i'm gonna be singing; okay#meanwhile moments in Nonbinary But Not Out Yet when my incredible irritation at the authoritative prescriptive comments lol like#i'm telling my roommate who asked I'm A Tenor. they're going wellll tenors have to be boys so.#like well either this is about vocal range or it isn't and already i'm like No Gender Binary even when it's [vocals] edition#serendipitously for kitchen karaoke singalongs (rarer recently w/no aux capabilities...) in essence i have will roland's range lol#ofc i can't sing like That & he's probably got like more comfortably a half step lower; but i can get on that half step sometimes lol#the way ewm son of a gun is too low for me & will roland's is not; moved it up a key or so for him then lol#[handshake] tenors higher than that. and in maybe having a just barely higher range: then; what; singing along with george salazar?#there is a pattern here....suddenly the range of Altos if they just so happened to not be understood as men#also [choir with the benedictine nuns] >>>>> [choir at the more nearby church]#but strictly the Mass at the monastery....only maybe quicker for being a little smaller#more tragically; further away meant an earlier wakeup. bad. but all other instances of hanging w/the nuns chill to fun#also the like [could you not go concert mode here] basilica reverb xmas dc soprano lol it's always like#this podcast talking abt like ''& then the amazing professional dancers in this show would go to the club & be putting on their amazing#dance performances just out there for any randos to see. how amazing'' like people can be impressed with the dancing in a show when they#have chosen to go to the show with the dancing; they didn't go out to a club to stand around watching anyone's pro performance & like what.#should they also all stop & clap in recognition lmao Like. too akin to [guy at party pulls out guitar] even if you're an amazing guitarist#This Is Not The Occasion; Others Didn't Sign On....ofc there's plenty of room for flexibility / spontaneity / ppl totally ready to enjoy#any such event dropped into their laps even if it's not part of their plans....but like. doing your own thing vs requiring everyone else#now Have to be an audience. guy at party who pulls out [i have to loudly insistently say things i want Everyone to laugh at. so that i win]#like i'm not judging the peons who didn't all stop their clubbing to gather round & acknowledge your superior; transcendent clubbing

Also I am curious about carrying over the damage, because that means Monty’s been cut in half, Freddy’s decapitated and had his knees broken, Chica had her vocal cords removed as well as a broken off beak, and Roxy’s eyes have been ripped out. That seems a bit much lol
Maybe it’s like toned down and then it heals?
The damage is carrying over, but it's not in the way you're suggesting here.
These changes aren't one to one because a creature of flesh and blood can't be walking around with giant ass holes in their chest. So uhhh yeah that's not a one to one thing that's happening here. I'm not erasing the damage either, it's just carrying over in a less literal sense than you're thinking.
Some context: While I haven't decided exactly where everyone is at the start of Meteors, anyone that is online, has had the repairs necessary to keep them online. Eddie did this at Cassie's insistence and because it gave him something to do while he supervised her in the Plex lobby when they visited. What's important to note though, is that the damage is still very much there, it's just important background to some of this. They're animatronics, their physical bodies are endlessly fixable to them and when they aren't that makes them anxious, so yeah, repairs of any kind were sought out. The human equivalent would be a lack of access to a first aid kit when they really fucking need one, but it's specifically not threatening enough to start making phone calls.
How it carries over, is based on the animatronic and several factors that aren't that relevant, but to explain how the damage is being carried over maybe it's just... better if I give you an example?
Roxy had basically super powered eyesight, had that forcibly taken from her, was not immediately repaired, angrily wants it back, was blind for an extremely dangerous situation, and then given shoddy eyes to replace the super power for her own reasons. She's got very little casing left, barely any of her mane and tail, but still sees herself as she should be whilst Cassie looks at her in the VANNI mask.
When she changed, the damage is applied to what she feels she should look like. The damage to her eyes, and the subsequent replacement, is now abysmal eyesight and awful light sensitivity that needs highly specialised eyewear to help her with, and to be able to wear given she's a canine. The missing mane and tail is translates to her hair and fur respectively being thinned out, scruffy and uneven, but this is something that will fix itself with time and self care. The damaged body shell is what I was wondering about when I made the post you're referring to. Once changed, it appears as extensive scarring, and as time goes on and as Roxy heals, the fur grows over them in a different colour. The scars are still there of course, it's just their visibility that changed. Some take longer than others, some are already growing over when she's changed, and some don't grow over for years, if ever.
This kind of logic extends to the others as well, and how that transfers over depends on what their physical body and their perception of that physical body looks like. None of them are cured or anything in the change, and all of them retain some lasting physical changes specifically from what happened to them. The general idea isn't to 'tone it down' it's translate what the damages mean to the animatronics, into what the injuries mean to the changed bodies. Which of course, is going to range drastically between them.
But yeah, I have my reasonings for all the scarring and other damages and stuff if you're interested in the specifics. And uhh hopefully this covers what I'm going for with damage carry over? Maybe? I'm tired so I hope so.

I am having thoughts about how magic works but I'm running out of things to think about so I'm outsourcing: How do you treat necromancy? What specifically can be reanimated?
Ouh good question! And my short answer is: everything, depending on the skill and knowledge.
Medium answer: so long as you have the knowledge, skill, and power source to do so, you can theoretically reanimate anything if you put the work in. A necromancer could have a fuck-off huge minion-mount for example, either made from random flesh or just a whole undead animal.
Very long answer (take with the fact that I did not highly research this in the "grab every tiny piece of factual lore" method because I think it's more fun to take what is naturally explained to me in game and play with that):
Necromancy is something where in most games and media its inherently evil, or at least considered "dark magic" that requires rituals or sacrifices that can limit how far you take it and it'll come with a "price". In gw2 though necromancy is just another form of magic like any other, and not even considered to be the untrustworthy option of the magical skills. Because it's so commonplace, the methods to use it are too. A fiend or minion can be summoned on the spot and siphoning someone's life just takes an outstretched hand.
The other side of having the magic so easy to use though is that we don't have books and deeper explanations of how this works. But we do have Zhaitan and Joko and wraiths. Fiends and minions are all well and good, but they're standard necromancy fare in this game considering any player character can access them. They're mounds of flesh and bone twisted into a functional shape, based on forms we see in the world, that will attack whatever you tell them to. I've seen other players headcanon these to have the mentality ranging from that of a pet to a recovered soul or demon's spirit. Which leaves me personally in a space of "fiends and minions are empty vessels that can house any functional intent that is placed within them."
By this specific metric, any pile of flesh could be reanimated to keep a spirit or demon close, though it isn't revivification so much as a temporary home for the spirit that'll last until you drop the magic holding it together. By basic necromancy skills, nothing gets truly revived but anything organic can be reanimated with the right anatomical knowledge and an intent to put within the form.
But then there's the experts. Then we have wraiths and liches, who create the risen and awakened. The former of which is debatably aware, the latter of which has their old soul returned to the exact same body.
The risen house a will in a shambling and decaying body. They rasp out words with barely-existing vocal chords echoing the will put into their reanimation. Rather than creating new forms to reanimated, Zhaitan took those that already existed and made essentially minions of them. The only seeming difference between risen and minions is one was molded from pieces and the other was simply taken off a shelf and used. If you can't make your minions from scratch, store-bought is fine!
Wraiths are the next step up from this, sort of the other end really. A soul with clear intent but no physical body. Their presence seems to fit in line with another form necromancy is capable of, a shadow fiend. Made of the same darkness that a necromancer's shroud can cloak them in. Dead or not, it's unclear what Wraiths truly are and their permanent shroud keeps their floating form hidden. They too seem to carry death and reanimation with them, able to summing the risen to their call. Expert necromancers who bow to Zhaitan and are thus able to channel his own powerful form of undeath and create and control the risen. It's like if you bass-boosted a necromancer so hard they lost their physical form and started controlling others' forms instead.
And then we have the awakened don't we. These ones, this part of the world, makes me think. Because this isn't necromancy in the form that we have knowledge of from Tyria. This is something else. The awakened know who they were, they have their memories and personalities. It's walled off to an extent behind the control of a powerful lich (and we will get to Joko himself in a moment oh boy we will!) who bends the awakened to his every whim. A will that seems to be tied to the "revival" process by intent. They're not perfectly alive again though, they still walk around in a form that is mummified. Preserved, presumably to keep it from decaying and eventually falling to pieces like the risen seem to be. This version of a soul in a vessel is made to last. It is a new and different LIFE for the people who once died. There's no smoke and mirrors to it, Joko dying doesn't even break the bond. The souls are truly in the world and in their bodies again. This right here, this is where necromancy gets real interesting for me. Because this isn't reanimation entirely, though it does use the same method as risen in that a whole body is returning to life. This pulls the souls of the dead back from the mists to bind into their old forms. It's not truly revival, not with a body that's in a mummified stasis that would fundamentally change how you live your life. But it shows how far reanimation can truly go with a proper soul and tether to the living world.
Joko, for his part, plays a role outside his importance in awakening too. Cause this ancient bastard shouldn't still be alive should he. He's seemingly in the same sort of position as awakened, but with the caveat that he's done this to himself and so likely never died in the first place. He figured out how to tether souls back into bodies, and laid that tether in himself before he even had a chance to keel over a single time.then he could have the freedom to preserve and reinforce his own body without fear of death. Has he ever truly died? No. But he may as well have in the processes that lead to his eternal life. I think this tether, this ancient magic Joko found, is what Aurene inherited from him. The only physical difference being that her body as an elder dragon is made to last and can heal well enough that mummification is an unnecessary step. Congrats aurene you're a necromancer, of a sort!
And you'd think that'd cover it all, that I could lay out what this means for my understanding right there, but we haven't covered it all have we? Because there's one more level of necromancy we haven't touched yet. The Commander. Every Commander.
Not just those assigned necro at birth, but once they take a trip through the desert and get ambushed by a god. Once the Commander dies definitively, and comes back. This right here makes me go fucking ballistic. And it's why Cinnuit exists narratively as he does now despite not being a commander.
The Commander dies. Canonically fully dies, presumably with hardly a body to return to. What body would survive a magical flaming sword as long as you are tall cutting you through several times while you fight desperately within a ring of magical fire? They wake up in the Domain of the Lost, a space between the living world and the mists for those who died to traumatically that their soul shattered and splintered into so many pieces they have no idea who they are. Thankfully all those pieces end up in the same place, the Commander can become who they once were, it's just in death now instead. Which is a problem when you're gunning to save the world isn't it? Just won't do, you'll need a return ticket immediately please. Something that up until now has been unheard of in modern gw2. You're seeking to return to your old body as if the death never happened. (And yes I know this is because anet can't anger everyone by making your characters look awakened after this story step with no way to get your old look back, but that caution sets a narrative implication that has me fucking feral with delight!) You're given a method, and it turns out the big difference between what a necromancer can do, to what Joko and Zhaitan can do, to this? It's the power source. It's how much energy you have at your disposal. Which makes sense! Necromancy doesn't have the price of rituals here, but it still works off the conservation of energy we understand. Don't have enough power, you can't accomplish some things. More power behind the magic means more options for how you can use it effectively. And returning to life to tether yourself back into a body that you've healed and given full functionality back to? That takes an incalculable power source. That takes hundreds, thousands, untold millions of sacrificed souls that had been collected for an unknown amount of time. This necromancy does require sacrifice, if your power source has to outweigh the nature of death at a fundamental level.
So to sum it up! How do I treat necromancy? I treat it like any magic. Skill and methodology play important roles, with those you could reanimate theoretically anything. You could even pop a soul back in with a tether that can pilot the reanimated form if you're feeling fancy. But revival, that takes power and long-forgotten skills. It's possible, but you will reap the costs and you'd better hope you haven't gotten anything wrong as you play with the logistics of life in a way reanimation never does.

Hi! I absolutely love your TF2 match-ups and stories, they're so cute! If you're not too busy, could I get a match-up as well? But if you can't and/or I'm too similar to someone else you've already done, don't worry about it. I hope your day is going well! :) /gen /lh
My names are Rowen, Arcade, Enzyme, Omni, and Charlie! I'm a comorbid (ADHD + Autism), genderfluid, and polyamorous person (so if you have a toss-up or think I fit with multiple mercs, I'd date more than one). My pronoun sets are (They/Them) and (Ze/Zer/Zem/Zey). I also kinda "collect" more names and pronoun sets as I go. If there's a cool name or word that I like, or if I feel that another set of pronouns describe me as well, then bam! Mine now bitch lmao! I'm 5'7, chubby, have brown and purple hair, and use contacts and black glasses. /lh
First up, my comorbidity sort of makes me who I am in a way. If I don't know you or I'm in a place that I don't go to a lot, I heavily mask my symptoms and am a completely different person; stand-offish, quiet, observant. Once I trust you though, I let down my guard down bit by bit until I know that you and/or the place I'm in is safe. After that, I'm the loudest, most fucking unhinged person you've ever met (unless you're a merc, then I'm slightly more tolerable lmao). But I can get overstimulated too if somewhere/something is too loud. It's a very fine line. Also, as you can see, I use tone tags so that there's as little miscommunication as possible. /lh
Unmasked, I vocal stim all the time, ranging from talking to myself, to making weird noises, to repeating phrases/singing a song over and over. Sometimes I make hand gestures as well, acting out little scenarios in my head by myself or whenever I'm in thought. I also think I'm one of the funniest fucking people to exist, making myself laugh all the time with references that I'm not sure the mercs would get if they're cut off from the internet LMAO. My "feral"/unhinged-ness comes from the fact that I have severe cute-aggression, where if I find something cute then I want to either squeeze/crush/destroy it. Also if I get excited about something, depending on what it is I either hop in place, get the zoomies, or quite literally start barking and/or do this motion while growling:
Tumblr media
For clothing/gender-presenting, I (would like to) have a bit of range. I love punk in general, as well as two sub-genres "steampunk" and "clownpunk", wanting to be threatening yet kinda soft at the same time. Think big platform combat boots with purple and yellow laces (bonus points if the mercs know lace code), black make-up, spikes 'n shit. I also love being camp and dressing in ways that absolutely set off even the most sheltered, white evangelical Christian/Mormon/Amish person's gaydar, especially if the outfit isn't stereotypical. And I *want* to dress and present feminine more, truly I do - it gets exhausting being only masc/non-binary at times. My only problem is that because I'm AFAB, people tend to not respect my pronouns and then make me feel dysphoric, so if my match(es) could help reassure me, I'd really appreciate that. /gen /srs
For my hobbies and interests, it really depends. I pick up and put down stuff so often, I can never tell if something I start to like is just another hyperfixation or if I truly want it as a staple of myself. What I *do* know is that I'm an artist, writer, and aspiring animator, even if I'm going through the world's longest creative block right now. I love video games and I'm also a spiritual person, being a baby pagan/witch. I do divination with tarot, I'm learning spells, and working with different deities to help me through my journey. Astrology plays a little bit into it as well, but only a little. I also love language!! I love the way people talk, and would love to learn more than English if I wasn't so burnt out. I know a little Spanish and Scots, and can replicate accents pretty quickly. I've also started cooking and baking, and would like to get into computer stuff, mostly software and coding but a little hardware wouldn't hurt. I also drink a bit and smoke Ms. Mary Jane, and would love to have a hotbox sesh with someone. /pos /gen
Last but absolutely NOT least, relationship stuff. My one big thing is: communication, communication, COMMUNICATION. I fucking hate it when someone gets broody/upset with me and then doesn't tell me what's wrong. How the hell am I supposed to know something if you didn't tell me about it? I'm very upfront and honest about what I want and who I am - and tbh I think that comes through in the fact that this ask is fuckin' ginormous LMAO. Some of this should probably stay private but whatever, I'm here for ACCURACY LMAO. But yeah, communication is my biggest thing and I'm super open to any discussion, serious, kinky, vulnerable, you name it. /gen /srs /pos
Along with that, I like to think of myself as a very affectionate person, even if the ways I show it are a little unorthodox. Sometimes I'm a bit more mundane; cooking, cleaning, spending time with them and doing various activities. Other times it can shine through in different ways, such as sending them videos/memes/posts I think they'd like, sitting in comfortable silence while we do our own thing, biting, and playfully bullying them with banter like "I'm gonna kick your ass!". I also do this thing where I hit my forehead against someone and say "Bonk". /lh /pos
So, uh, yeah. That's literally everything anyone would ever need to know about me, LMAO. Sorry for the long ask, I just like to be accurate. And I know that I'm a little hard to pin down, so just as a reminder, I'm polyamorous! I don't mind (and kinda prefer, but please don't stress yourself out) if I match with more than one. I hope you have as much fun writing for my match(es) as much as I did delving into my own psyche and writing it out!! But if you wanna/have to skip me, that's totally understandable. Please take care of yourself. <3 /gen /pos /lh
You've been chosen!!! Thank you for the detail, I hope you enjoy your new match and thank you for your patience!
I match you with...
Scout, Sniper, & Demo!
You fit perfectly amongst these three, of course they appreciate and love you for who you are and genuinely will fight anyone that misgenders you ofc. So lets break things down and give you a broader feel of the relationship! At first Demo might approach you, due to his friendly nature he just wants to do his best to make you feel comfortable and give you some sort of middle ground rather than you feeling out of place in a crowded spot. He'd start out complimenting your hair and strike up a conversation from there. Demo is the type of guy to somehow make friends with anyone so I'm sure he would somehow do his best to give you the best him he can muster. He talks to you about anything and everything, this man is the master of communication and will be upfront about all the things on his mind. Definitely gifts you flowers all the time and will constantly tell you how they ain't as pretty as your smile <3
Scout came soon after, the excitement riddled lad is ready to throw hands with anybody who tries dissing you, he's so full of love for you that he would gladly go feral along with you. He could walk in on you doing that image exactly and he'd root you on as the supportive man he is. Will remember each one of your names flawlessly, but will ask for help writing them just because he likes the way they look on paper, even if he can't read them too well. Oh man this man loves any sort of love you give him, he loves to bonk you back and gets very excited whenever any sort of banter comes up, this is Scout, of course he'd get super happy with any little loving bullying you guys did together. He tries to help a lot when you are cooking, though just be sure to keep an eye on him so he won't accidentally burn anything.
Now Sniper, we all know he likes to keep to himself, so it takes him a little bit to warm up to you. He's observant, and very blunt, so you can definitely trust he'll let you know if something is up! He can get when you need a moment for yourself or just need space entirely, he knows when to back up and give you a moment, and also when to swoop in and give you a lil smooch on the forehead bc he loves you (: he loves how different your styles are, and however you wanted to dress he absolutely hypes you up in his own ways. Anyone fucking with you either gets a bullet or a death glare by this lanky man, he plays no games when it comes to respecting you and your boundaries! Sniper definitely can relate to the feeling of needing to put up a front when first meeting someone, so he'll also take a bit to be able to come out of his shell and turn into the snuggly guy he is deep down and show you all sorts of forms of affection, he definitely does a lot of small things for you that he tries showing affection with but he's trying his best!
With the three together, you get a big bundle of love wrapped in a pretty bow for you! The trio love to plan together ways just to make you happy, Sniper ending up being the one that has to pull the other two out of some sticky situations that they may or may not pull you into. Scout loves to take lead and show off how great you are to anyone that's out in public, holds your hand and happily uses any pronouns you give him, in fact he even gets Demo to also join in telling anyone just about how wonderful you are as a partner to them. Can and will talk anyone's ear off about it, they are always ready to shower you with love and affection! Sniper is also very affectionate while the two are yelling their love, he on the other hand is much more subtle about it, holding hands, putting his hat on you, he's really sweet and gentle regardless so its always the best of all worlds! They'd definitely partake in cuddle piles, Sniper builds a pillow fort for everyone to enjoy time inside of, no one else allowed without the password that Scout made up on the spot...and forgot when he went to get snacks. Regardless, you've found yourself in a big bundle of love and support!

Could I request the brothers reacting to MC saying "I love you" for the first time? Bonus if MC usually don't express their feelings by words :D
I'm am usually pretty withdrawn emotionally and not vocal myself, so this was very fun to write!
Brothers x Gender-Neutral MC
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: None
MC Says "I Love You" For The First Time
Lucifer:
Lucifer understood from the beginning that you weren't very vocal about your feelings.
You shared your love for him in other ways instead.
You'd often remind him to take breaks, bring him tea or snacks, you even gave him shoulder massages when he started feeling stiff from sitting at his desk.
Lucifer didn't need to hear those three words from you to know you loved him. Your own comfort was of the utmost importance.
And then you said it for the very first time. Those words rang like a melody in his mind.
"Lucifer?"
He didn't realize he had been staring at you wordlessly for several minutes. He just couldn't believe his own ears.
You looked worried until he pulled you into his arms, a genuine smile etched on his handsome features.
He pressed a kiss to your lips and held you close.
"I love you, too, MC."
You broke into a smile of your own and wrapped your arms around him.
It was well worth the wait to hear those three words from you.
Mammon:
Listen, Mammon wasn't very good at saying what he wanted to most of the time.
With you not being the most vocal about how you felt, instead opting to show affection in other ways, he felt like there was less pressure on him.
Mammon was a very physical lover, giving you hugs and kisses or holding your hand. He always had a hand on you.
Things were comfortable between the two of you.
The day you said "I love you" to him, you were sure he had passed out standing up.
You were about to apologize to him when he grabbed one of your hands and pressed it to his face.
His face was hot, just as you expected it to be. You couldn't see a blush on his brown skin but his face absolutely radiated heat.
"You don't have to say it back if you're not ready-"
"Just give me a second!" His voice trembled and you could see the apologetic look on his face immediately for snapping.
He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly.
"I-I love you, too, MC. I mean it! There's no one I'd rather have at my side than you!"
It wasn't often that Mammon didn't cover up his feelings with bravado. He was genuine in his words and it made you smile.
Leviathan:
Levi isn't really a verbal lover either. He isn't good at this whole verbal shows of affection thing.
The most you get from him is him calling you his Henry or even the times where he tells you that you're more important to him than Ruri-chan.
But never an "I love you". He's too anxious to say it first.
You two mostly show your love by simply spending time together. Whether you do things together or just exist in each other's space.
What you two have is very comfortable and safe. Levi was afraid that saying those three words might somehow ruin what you two already shared.
He actually planned on saying it to you first. It had taken a lot of psyching up, but he was sure he could do it. He even practiced!
Then you beat him to the punch and you saw his face turn cherry red in a matter of seconds.
He hid his face behind his hands and tried to breathe, peeking out at you from between his fingers.
"You don't have to say it back yet, Levi. I just...felt that the time was right for me personally."
The smile you offered him was so pure, so sweet, that it felt like he'd been shot through the heart!
He grabbed your sleeve when you went to turn away and change the subject on him. He pulled you into a hug and buried his face against your shoulder.
"I l-l-love you, t-too."
Satan:
You and Satan had a lengthy discussion when you started seeing each other about comfort and shows of affection.
So he knew from day one that you didn't tend to show your affection through words.
He didn't really mind it, either. Satan might love to read, and I think he'd be amazing at poetry, but he isn't usually one to share his feelings verbally either.
You two would often do things together and he'd always hold your hand.
He also liked reading to you. It was your special time together that he didn't allow anyone or anything to get in the way of.
It was during one of these special times that you said it.
He looked at you for just a few brief seconds before breaking out into a smile.
"I love you, too."
You snuggled in closer to him and he pressed a gentle kiss to the top of your head.
He didn't even question your decision to tell him you loved him at that moment. Why would he? If you were ready to say it, that was all that really mattered.
It wasn't a drastic change, but you did notice he began to say it when the two of you were alone.
Asmodeus:
Asmo told you he loved you every single day. He's a very vocal lover and a major quality time person, with a side of gift-giving.
He just loves to make sure you know you're loved!
But he told you from day one that you never had to say you loved him back. Your comfort and readiness were more important than hearing those words.
He never let you feel guilty about not returning those words.
The two of you were having a little fashion show in his bedroom. He had picked out so many outfits that he wanted to see you in.
He looked so soft and sweet, so happy. Your heart just swelled with emotions for him. You loved him so much. And you blurted it out.
"I love you." You said what you were thinking so naturally that it surprised even you.
Asmodeus squealed at those words and jumped up to hug you, resulting in you being spun around.
"I love you, too! The way you said that and the way you looked? You were so cute!"
Your cheeks felt hot as he gushed, but it didn't make you feel embarrassed. You knew he was just excitable.
He snapped a photo of you and then a selfie of the two of you together.
"These are going in my private folder all about us! I will remember this day for as long as I exist!"
Beelzebub:
You never had to say it with Beel. Beel knows that not everyone is comfortable showing their love verbally. Not everyone can be like Asmo.
Beel did say it first, he said it about two months into your relationship. But he assured you he didn't want you to feel pressured to say it back.
"Say it in your own time." Was what he had told you with his usual, gentle smile.
So you took your time. You wanted to find the right moment. You were sure you'd know it when it happened.
When it didn't come for months, you began to worry about it more and more.
Beel never once pressured you. He assured you that he knew you loved him because of the things you did together and the way you treated him.
You didn't expect to say it on your evening walk after Beel's Fangol practice.
The "night" of Devildom was so quiet and calm, though it was perpetually dark to varying degrees since the Devildom didn't have a sun.
"Hey, Beel," you said when the house was beginning to come into sight. "I love you."
He stopped walking and you were met with a grin.
He gently kissed the top of your head before you guys started walking again. "I love you, too."
Belphegor:
Belphie didn't say it for the longest time, either. He's not very vocal about his emotions.
That does have something to do with his bitterness and anger after the fall mixed with being locked up. His emotions got thrown for a loop and only just began to recover.
So there was no pressure on either of you to say it.
He often showed his affections through physical displays, mainly the fact that he preferred snuggling with you or holding your hand.
Your relationship was comfortable.
You guys were in your room one day, Belphie's head in your lap. Looking up at you just made the moment feel right to him.
"I love you, MC. I really, truly do."
His words of love caught you off guard but they felt so soft in your heart. It wasn't often to hear him being totally open without being a snarky little shit.
Which, to be fair, was something you loved about him.
"And I love you, Belphie." You ran your fingers through his hair as you said it, watching his lips curl up into a smile.
He pushed himself up so he could give you a kiss.
"I'm glad to hear it."

Dianna Agron in Music Video's
youtube
On one occasion in the RED room during the tour, Taylor freely stated that she loves Dianna's MV and is proud of it.
And it might be inspired by the lyrics "Knew he was a killer the first time that I saw him." I wonder how many girls she left "haunted"
The old theories that this song was written by Dianna? Brandon of the Killers claimed it was the only song on the record that wasn't truly about the band, and the lyrics contain references to Dianna's life. When I saw the skeletons in the MV, I thought to myself, "And the skeletons in our closet plotted hard to f*** this up."
"I could be reeling 'em in left and right, Something's got a hold on me, tonight" - this line is so Dianna, she uses it all the time.. it also reminds me of what Sam Smith said about the song I'm not the only one, the only song on the album that isn't about him but about someone else, then exactly on the video frame was Dianna, and I remember Taylor's reaction when that song was released, and he even made a …I have no qualms that Dianna can compose a song because she has previously created a screenplay at such a young age. I believe she is still doing it…also there are speculations that dianna is assisting Taylor with her red album, such as reconstructing the EHC and assisting with MV ideas, especially in 22, Begin Again, and EHC, which dianna was already directing before she met Taylor. Also, according to some, the last time was their first collaboration.. the last time and exile are practically identical, with dianna being a big fan of Bon Iver.
Aside from being a musician, there are a few factors that indicate to Dianna's involvement in various songs.
1. Both the Killers and Sam Smith's songs are aimed at men.'s got a low voice and sings male songs; it's probably how she'd write them, too. You mention some of Taylor's songs that either have male guest vocals or are in a lower female range, too.
2. In the MV, Dianna plays the character whose perspective the song is from, even if that involves drag.
3. Speaking of playing Brandon Flowers, it makes sense if the song is a killers' song but isn't really by or about the killers, you know? Keep Brandon's voice but show at least subtly that it's Dianna's song. I don't know if Dianna is friends with Brandon or anything, but apparently a fan. But it being an odd song-out makes sense because the album was a 10th anniversary disc and all the other songs were re-released.
4. The lyrical references to her childhood and brother are especially weird compared to the MV references. Lots of killers in history. Or is that another sign? lyrics = brandon singing + dianna's history, video = dianna acting + killers' history
5. Dianna and Sam are or were very good friends, who apparently shared relationship woes, so
6. You mention Bon Iver, and when I first heard/saw Cowboy Like Me, I thought the clock set to 4:30 was a reference to Bon Iver's birthday, April 30, and that was an easter egg that he was the uncredited writer/vocalist, but I quickly learned that it's Marcus Mumford. I'm not saying Taylor can't know Mumford just through the music industry, but being connected by Dianna seems more obvious, and April 30 is also Dianna's birthday.
7. EHC seems obviously about dianna if just from timing and liner notes. the MV here has clues as well, like watching the movie in class showing Paris-who would take Taylor to Paris if not Francophile Dianna? etc.
Taylor constantly references Dianna on her songs, MVs, and especially live performances during Lover. Even in the rep MV, I see she mentions MV 22 and WANGBT, which even Swiftie fans recognized.
Just Another Girl
Song by The Killers
Released 2013 = Early 2013, Dianna and Taylor was broke up. Dianna try to propose for Taylor but the PR shut it down. Sept 2013 the FUN concert, Dianna try to patch up their relationship but post "WITHDRAWAL" on twitter, like she withdrawal herself from Taylor.
Lyrics
Step out into the Indian dust I can feel the cracks in my spirit They're starting to bust Drive by your house, nobody's home I'm trying to tell myself that I'm better off alone
All of my friends say I should move on She's just another girl Don't let her stick it to your heart so hard And of all my friends say it wasn't meant to be And it's a great big world She's just another girl
Another girl
I went to see a fortuneteller That was a trip Maybe this confusion's got me losing my grip I can't believe you're out there Flying with somebody else, uh-huh
Now Jason's getting married in the blink of an eye ==> funny that Dianna's brother name's is Jason Agron I got an invitation, but I didn't reply Tell your little brother that we put down the gloves And give him all of my love
All of my friends say I should move on She's just another girl Don't let her stick it to your heart so hard And all of my friends say it wasn't meant to be And it's a great big world She's just another girl
I could be reeling 'em in left and right Something's got a hold on me, tonight
Well, maybe all of my friends should confront The fact that I don't want
Another girl
All of my friends say I should move on All of my friends say All of my friends say All of my friends say She's just another girl
Now why can't I sleep at night? And why don't the moon look right The sounds up, the TV's on And it's a great big world
She's just another girl Don't let her stick it to your heart, boy She's just another girl All of my friends say She's just another girl
Another girl

I'm Not the Only One
Song by Sam Smith
Released: 2014 = Taylor pursue Karlie after they met at Victoria Secret FS late 2013. See Taylor song's "chase two girls, lost the 1".
In AMA 2014, Dianna met Taylor and Karlie. Karlie is Taylor plus 1. See the infamous picture of Dianna greet Taylor with Karlie sit next to Taylor. Then in another picture, Taylor and Karlie stand up cheerfully side by side while we can see Dianna fixture behind Karlie. This kinda shady move of Taylor. Not even, Taylor being little considerate considering her ex is there. That's why we got Afterglow songs. Like what ? Taylor remorse because her shady act toward Dianna ?
Sam Smith said that the song's about someone else love story. Sam Smith even dedicated the song for Dianna
Lyrics
You and me we made a vow For better or for worse I can't believe you let me down But the proof is in the way it hurts For months on end I've had my doubts Denying every tear I wish this would be over now But I know that I still need you here
You say I'm crazy 'Cause you don't think I know what you've done But when you call me baby I know I'm not the only one
You've been so unavailable Now sadly I know why Your heart is unobtainable Even though Lord knows you kept mine
You say I'm crazy 'Cause you don't think I know what you've done But when you call me baby I know I'm not the only one
I have loved you for many years Maybe I am just not enough You've made me realize my deepest fear By lying and tearing us up
You say I'm crazy 'Cause you don't think I know what you've done But when you call me baby I know I'm not the only one
You say I'm crazy 'Cause you don't think I know what you've done But when you call me baby I know I'm not the only one
I know I'm not the only one I know I'm not the only one And I know, and I know, and I know And I know, and I know, and I know, know
I know I'm not the only one
Similarities music video of I'm Not the Only One vs Babe are uncanny. I will not make analysis on it, because it already done by another tumbr post

Sugarland - Babe ft. Taylor Swift
Lyrics
What a shame Didn't wanna be the one that got away, yeah Big mistake, broke the sweetest promise That you never should have made I'm here on the kitchen floor You call, but I won't hear it You said no one else, how could you do this, babe?
You really blew this, babe ==> Taylor blame Dianna for everything on their messed relationship. I dont think it is fair. Because both of them in closet and Taylor doing bearding. Literally each of them kiss and make out with their beard. Its not simply Dianna false. Compare to Hayley Kiyoko and Becca Tilley. They are just private. They dont need beard. Part of Hayley is openly gay. But, Becca is no being bearding. I know Becca dont need bearding, because she is not that celebrity compare to Taylor Swift. However, Becca is not making their relationship secret. Her friend and family know that Hayley and Becca together. Hayley has been so patient with Becca.
We ain't getting through this one, babe This is the last time I'll ever call you, babe This is the last time, this is the last time This is the last time, I'll ever call you babe
What a waste Taking down the pictures and the plans we made, yeah And it's strange how your face doesn't look so innocent Your secret has its consequence and that's on you, babe I break down every time you call We're a wreck, you're the wrecking ball We said no one else, how could you do this, babe?
You really blew this, babe We ain't getting through this one, babe This is the last time I'll ever call you, babe This is the last time, this is the last time This is the last time
Since you admitted it, I keep picturing Her lips on your neck, I can't unsee it I hate that because of you, I can't love you Babe What a shame, didn't want to be the one that got away How could you do this, babe?
You really blew this, babe We ain't getting through this one, babe How could you do this, babe This is the last time, this is the last time This is the last time, I'll ever call you babe (how could you do this babe?)
I'm here on the kitchen floor, you call but I won't hear it You said I'm no one else, we ain't getting through this one, babe I break down every time you call This is the last time, this is the last time (we're a wreck, you're the wrecking ball) You said I'm no one else, this is the last time I'll never call you babe

matchup: hello there! may i request a normal matchup for obey me and genshin impact? i'd like to be matched with a male character, my pronouns are she/her. im shy and awkward most of the time, but I can be loud and talkative when we're close. I'm an affectionate person. I enjoy reading, some singing, and I've written some stories, but I don't think they're good enough for show. I like deep conversations, where we just open up about stuff, anything we've been holding back. im very emotional, and I have trouble controlling my emotions. my ideal date would be some sort of cafe or movie date. I can read the room and people easily, and adjust my actions to that. thank you 👑
Tumblr media
I think you match well with...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SIMEON
🍊 You're shy and awkward? No worries, no matter how long, he'd wait for you to slowly open up to him, he's patient. He appreciates you're talkative because he himself isn't very loud, he would chime in here and there, and he'd be the type who'd hold direct eye contact with you, or just staring at your face while you're talking with that soft smile
🍊 Simeon would be in between shameless and flustered with PDA, sneak in a couple of surprise kisses and hugs, catch him off guard and perhaps you'll catch a flustered Simeon. Within a heartbeat, he would return your acts of affection, always. Whenever you guys are out hanging out, it's your hands glued together or you guys linking arms, it's clear as day that you guys are a couple to outsiders. When you're alone, singing, and Simeon catches that? He might one either join in as a duet (if he knows that song), or two, enjoy the free concert.
🍊 You write? Simeon writes too! He wants to read your stories one day if you ever let him, if you ever want to improve your writing Simeon's your man, I mean, he does have a entire series published. Simeon would be silent, listening attentively when you rant about your feelings. He would sooth you with gentle words and touches, offering you advice if you want them. He likes to hold a touch of you while having a deep conversation, it's just something he likes, you would take turns letting out your burdens.
🍊 Simeon's classic, if you like movies, he doenst have many recommendations, he would mostly go along with whatever you pick, but when he finds a movie that catches his attention, that he'd think both you and him would like, best to think that's what you guys are watching on your next movie date. Most of your cafe dates are decided randomly or in both of your interests, but if your okay with cats, or better yet love them, he has a lot of cat cafe's recommendations from Satan that he'd like to check out.
Tumblr media
VENTI
🍊 A lot of affection in this relationship, Venti would always have a hold around you, whenever he sees you he would sneak around you, giving you a surprise hug or kiss, he'd stay for a little to see your flustered expression before leaving giggling. You make the singles in Monstadt even more single. Unless you needed distance, Venti would be all over you, wanting to spend his time with you whenever he's free.
🍊 He doesn't mind if you're shy, talkative, or awkward, or all three of them. He can do most of the talking when you're still in the awkward stage, but he loves it when you join in the conversation too, and actively chat with him with a range of topics. Deep conversations with Venti would truly be very deep. A lot of emotional burdens he'd kept inside, he's the type who would slowly over time he would start opening up more and more, and before you know it, you have his entire heart out in your palms. That's how you'd know he's serious about the relationship.
🍊 He has lived for a very long time, and had seen many many things. When you're feeling emotional he would stare at you with a serious face, and be a really good listener. His way of comforting would be him holding you, and offering his advice, that isn't sugar-coated, but it's up to you if you want to listen to his advice or not. It's okay if you have trouble controlling your emotions, Venti thinks it's better than bottling them up. But if you want to control your emotions better, Venti would support you and help in ways he can.
🍊 He takes advantage if you guys are a couple, discounts for couples? he eats that up. The moment he sees that couple discount, he's already carrying you and sprinting over there. When watching movies that doesn't interest him, he'd either just judge the movie, sleep through the entire show, or when he's feeling especially bored he might just be super vocal about his expressions and get you guys potentially kicked out (but only if you didn't enjoy the movie as well), he wouldn't want to ruin your fun. But next time, you guys are only watching movies that suit both of you.

GET TO KNOW MY SHIP OT3 Edition: Kizunashipping
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Character Profiles:
Jack Atlas - 20, blond, 6'3"/190 cm (manga height), oldest brother, no nicknames ("I'm not a mind reader, but Jack refers to himself as king in his head." —Yūsei)
Crow Hogan - 18, ginger, 5'7"/170 cm, youngest brother, no nicknames ("Crow-sama doesn't count if you're the only one who uses it. Just stick with bird." —Jack)
Yūsei Fudō - 19, raven with orange highlights, 5'8"/173 cm, middle child, no nicknames ("I think of Yūsei as a crab. It's the hair." —Crow)
How it happened: takes up the entire scale
When they first met as kids, Jack assumed Crow got bullied a lot for being small, Crow said the kid equivalent of "fuck off," and Yūsei invited him to duel. It was a tense two seconds of a first impression, but it ended very well and the three became thick as thieves. Over time, as they grew up, they got even closer, calling each other brothers and friends, a relationship that started immediately but also took the time to strengthen and become deeper. It was both intentional and unintentional at the same time as they did wanted to stay together but didn't expect it to ended the way it did. ❤️
Relationship attitude: as casual as they are dedicated, affections leaning on PDA
Kizuna is very casual about their relationship in that they don't have the need to tell the whole world, and they really enjoy small and rather private intimacy together. Crow is the most public about touching with Yūsei the most subtle ("reserved"). Jack is closer to Yūsei's level of public affections.
Crow loves being held and isn't embarrassed about being carried when he feels playful, asking for quick kisses when he feels like it. Yūsei is the type to do lingering touches, placing his hand on his friends' skin and taking them by the hand to lace their fingers, or just to squeeze, and he adores quiet, lazy moments in bed. Jack likes to hold his brothers, whether it's Crow on his lap or Yūsei lying on top of him. He likes feeling their weight against him and never complains about being used like a pillow or a stuffed animal.
Their dedication to each other is that they love each other and will always come at a time of need, but they understand each other's boundries and that each one of them is his own person. They never talked about having a physical or romantic relationship with other people, but they haven't really thought about it either. They're content with what they have, finding both family and friendship in each other.
Misadventures: depending on the situation, any one of them is getting them out of trouble and/or into trouble. How they do it differs from person to person.
Overall, Kizuna doesn't try to get into trouble on purpose, only when they have to or are asked to. Usually, Crow is told about it and faces it head on, Jack finds it accidentally, and Yūsei just has trouble following him. It can be a mess sometimes, but one of them is always there to bail the other two out; other times, it's two of them bailing one out. The trouble might not involve all of them, but at the end of the day, they'll all see it to the end one way or anyone.
Handling conflict: slow to forgive if someone else messes up badly, arguements are mostly Squabble
The arguments are mostly kept between them, Yūsei on the sideline. Crow is always telling Jack to pick up the slack, and Jack can't keep a job. They clash because of this, but serious fights rarely occur as this echoes a lot of their arguments as kids. Crow might get mad at Jack in the morning, but he's always happy to have Jack come home at night. Yūsei keeps out of these things because he already knows Jack won't change and Crow is stubborn. He almost never upsets Jack or Crow to the extent that they upset each other because he pulls off the best disappointed expression and they lose their steam quickly.
However, on the other, if someone else upsets or hurts one of them, they're all up in arms, ready to throw dukes cards. They are good duelists who also know how to use their fists. Yūsei tries to be reasonable most of the time, but he can and will hold a grudge, seeking some sort of retribution. Jack's a bit more vocal, using his tongue to make people back off while staring them down. Crow's the one who tries to work things out, but he'll take the bait if it's the right kind. Jack and Crow have the shorter fuses, but Yūsei can be just as slow to forgive.
Budget: Crow mostly takes care of the budget since he's the one with a stable business, and he's very careful about it. Yūsei provides a bit of extra cash with his handyman jobs and makes sure to record everything. Somehow, Jack is still able to purchase his expensive coffee. They are almost always close to being in the red.
Makes decisions: As the family accountant, Crow gets the final say on matters that needs to dip into their budget, ranging from inventory to traveling. All of them are capable of making decisions on their own, but it often comes in full circle.
Plans dates: They don't really go on dates; they just spend a lot of time together, whether it's going out of a ride and a duel or just being in the same room with one another. All they want is each other's company and presence, just like when they were growing up. They all have their own individual rooms for their own privacy, but very rarely would someone say no to spending the night together, or the afternoon, the morning, and the bit of time in between.
Besides, they can't afford to go on any of those popular date plans, there's not enough in their budget.
Cooks: They all cook, to varying degrees. Crow cooks the most, but it's mostly basic meals and to make sure everyone is eating. Yūsei cooks to pick up some responsibility when Crow is doing overtime or can't do it himself. Jack cooks too, but it's a lot of extravagant meals that taste great but isn't exactly the most affordable.
Cleans: They all have their own responsibilities at Poppo Time. (It is the sole reason that Jack doesn't get the boot, lol.) Yūsei handles the garage while Jack makes sure the upstairs floor is kept clean. He also does laundry. (Jack likes to live in a clean environment, so if he must, he'll clean.) Crow handles smaller chores like washing the dishes and buying groceries (since he's likely already out).
First to confess their feelings: Crow! He loves saying, "I love you," even as a kid, and he isn't embarrassed or shy about it. He loves it when Jack and Yūsei say it back.
First to apologize in a fight: Whoever realizes what they did wrong first. They might be stubborn, but they do understand that it's right to apologize when they're wrong or acted terribly. They were raised by a good woman after all.
The best caretaker when the others are sick: Jack! He's the one who can sit still the longest, usually with a book or a magazine, and stay by to see the first signs of discomfort. He has a strong sense of duty when it comes to taking care of his brothers when they're not well. He doesn't baby them (much), but he keeps track of when to do this and that very well. (He's actually good a time management.)
Does most of the speaking: They are all capable of speaking for themselves, but Jack is the one who likes to talk to people the most. He's a people person.
Sensitive to subtle changes in their partners: Yūsei! He's the observant type, even more so than his brothers, and catches things a lot more. He keeps a mental note of them and uses that information later for future use.
The one who proposes: None. They never get married or anything; they don't have the need to do so. It's enough that they chose to be together.
The one who would die to protect the others: This is all of them, but Yūsei would always volunteer first because he's like that.
Hogs the blanket: Crow. :3
Ticklish: "If you know the right spots, you can turn grumpy Jack and Yūsei into giggling ones!" —Crow
Good kisser: They all are, but Crow has the reputation. ;)
Irresponsible one: Depends. Jack's irresponsible for not being able to keep a stable job. Yūsei loses track of time a lot when working on the runners and forget to take care of himself. Crow likes to start shit with his brothers for giggles, already knowing the consequences of his actions.
Crow: . . . [hiccups]
Akiza: . . . Are you crying?
Crow: [hiccups] Yeah.
Akiza: Did you annoy Yūsei again?
Crow: Yeah. [sniffles]
.
Akiza: Did you learn anything this time?
Crow: . . . Never.
.

I know KS is well you already know but I actually want to continue it just cause I'm curious on how it'll end /or who will end up dead first/ but the thing is... we are allowed to like what we like right? As long you know what's real and what isn't it?
I’m of the opinion that people simplify this issue too much. Consuming problematic media is not inherently wrong, but it’s not just enough to know “what’s real and what isn’t”.
Now, this is one particular issue in which I use my own behavior as a model, but note that I am not going to try and claim that my views are the ‘correct one’ or that my approach is better than others. However, I would just like to offer to everyone who worries about this some insight into a philosophy that isn’t quite so black-and-white as others I have seen.
Basically, like every ask I ever receive, the answer’s going to be long, so hang on, Anon. Please note that Google Chrome ‘ran out of memory’ while I was writing this post, so if anything cuts off at a weird point, I just lost that portion and didn’t notice…
 More below the cut:
First thing’s first: I consume problematic media. As an aspiring writer, I enjoy experiencing stories that make me feel things, even if that feeling might be “dear god, this is what it feels like to watch a train wreck”, and as someone who thrives on new experiences, I enjoy being able to feel a broad range of emotions in a safe and controlled medium - either dreams or fiction. If there was a way to try psychedelic drugs and or ‘bad trips’ without risk of physical or psychological damage, I would try it.
Heck, I’m the kind of person who tries to induce sleep paralysis and nightmares for fun because I get a kick out of the sheer terror. It’s inevitable that I sometimes like to read about the visceral horror and sickening dread that comes from highly dangerous and awful situations. (Of course, I also have my limits, but that’s not the point of this post)
That being said, I try to be mindful about my enjoyment of such content in many ways, and I’m of the opinion that everyone else should as well. Something I always say is that “people can’t help how they feel, but they can help how they behave,” and through that behavior the feelings might change over time. However, you can’t blame someone for a reactive emotion, be it positive or negative. Humans don’t have control over their emotions.
As such, of course we’re all allowed to like what you like, but ‘liking’ something is not your ‘behavior’. Liking something is a feeling. Everything else you choose to do are actions, and you need to think them through because every action has a consequence, either on you or the environment around you.
Since you mentioned Killing Stalking, we’ll use it as an example. Although you’re allowed to like what you like, do you also know the reasons why some people are so vehemently against it? It’s not just the murder and it’s not just the depiction of abuse, and it’s not okay just to handwave it all under “haters will be haters”. These are people genuinely upset about this comic’s contents and consumption, and as someone who is choosing to enjoy it, I personally feel as though fans have a responsibility to first understand what these people are so upset about, and then make an informed decision whether or not to read it.
Once I learned that Killing Stalking was so negatively received by some individuals, I did my research. I read reasons why people dislike it. I specifically searched for primary sources, reactions of gay men and reactions of individuals with BPD. I went in with a neutral mindset - I had only just started reading the comic and I wouldn’t have minded giving it up at that point - and then decided what points I could empathize with and thought about how these viewpoints - different from my own - would affect my actions. Typically, there are three questions:
1) Will I continue reading/watching?
2) Will I financially support this content?
3) Will I socially support this content?
Question 1:In my opinion, only the first question depends on your personal likes/dislikes. Yes, you can like what you like. You can consume questionable content. However, if your answer to that is ‘yes’ or even a ‘maybe’, you absolutely have to ask yourself the next two questions.
Question 2:We live in an era of rampant digital pirating, and though yes, it is a crime and people are always encouraged not to, I’ve never personally met someone of my generation who hasn’t pirated a movie if they missed it in theaters and then couldn’t find it on Netflix and or Amazon Video. Popular books can be downloaded as PDFs or epubs. Foreign comic translation is a veritable unpaid industry of its own, on the internet (which is its own bucket of problems, but that’s not what this post is about).
So, ultimately, though the economic and moral implications are a bit hazy, you get to decide whether or not you financially support anything you watch or read. You can decide whether or not something that you find enjoyable is also something you think there should be more of in the world. In the modern capitalistic era, you as a consumer have the power to vote with your wallet, in a sense. I’m going to give an example of how this might work after this section.
I will say, however, if you plan to indirectly profit off your interaction with certain media, no matter how problematic, you have an obligation to support the author for their work. If you are going to write a movie review as an official film critic, you have to watch it in theaters. If you are going to write a book review in an official capacity, buy the book. This is partially because I believe that if you’re profiting off someone else’s work in any way, that someone should be compensated even if you hated it, and mostly because I believe that reviewers will be more accurate if they actually pay the money to see if something was “worth their money”.
This is also the reason why I bought Killing Stalking through its official channels. I had built up a surprising following for my lost-in-translation posts and even received a small sum of donations for my write-ups. As such, as an aspiring content creator myself, I could not in good conscience not pay for the webcomic when the official version was so easily accessible to me. This is also why once I felt too uncomfortable with the content and author’s comments that I stopped my lost-in-translation posts as well. I didn’t feel comfortable financially supporting her, and I didn’t feel comfortable profiting off someone else’s content for free.
Also I just didn’t want to read anymore, ahaha.
An example of something I would watch if I didn’t have to financially support it, though, is the new Ghost in the Shell movie. Even though I have pretty much vocalized everything I dislike about it, I am curious to see it for myself. If I really, really wanted to, I could easily watch the movie without providing financial support or official viewership. However, in exchange, I wouldn’t feel right writing a review about it, especially not a monetized one, due to my personal stance on creative content and also because a low-quality laptop-screen experience would greatly differ from a cinema-quality experience.
Question 3:And lastly, separate from the financial question, you have to ask whether or not you will socially support something. Word-of-mouth and fandom content are powerful, powerful forms of marketing, especially on Tumblr.
I read Killing Stalking and actively contributed to the fandom with my cultural / language translation posts. However, followers of mine might have noticed that aside from the first week or so, I never reblogged any fanart or other such content. This was because, although I personally was reading the comic with some interest, it was not content I wanted to actively encourage others to read. For the same reason, I assured all my followers that every post of mine with Killing Stalking content would be appropriately tagged so that they can blacklist it, should they feel it necessary.
There are some things that I read and enjoy that I choose not to support publicly or enthuse about. Some might call it disingenuous and others might tell me not to let others censor my behavior, but it is an intentional decision on my part. In the case of Killing Stalking, I had several reasons.
Firstly, I knew not all my followers were comfortable with it, and I want my blog to be a comfortable and accessible place for most people. This was especially true because I knew for a fact that I had some younger followers age 14 and 15 and so, and let me tell you, I remember being that age and feeling like I knew enough to make informed choices. I have learned more with age, enough to recognize that rather than controlling the media I consumed, the media I consumed was controlling me. I was young and impressionable, and I made some mistakes I’m not proud of.
I was especially careful after the first week or so to not post fanart, no matter how nice, because as a teenager, I was so, so, so easily influenced by good fanart. In fact, I am still so easily won over by good fanart and funny content, and this is a problem for me as a person, and it’s dragged me down some pretty questionable rabbit holes in the past.
Secondly, another reason I limited fandom participation outside of my lost-in-translation posts was because sure, Killing Stalking is an interesting story in some capacity, but it isn’t a story I would outright recommend to the general masses, like I would some other media. Killing Stalking is more of a story that people will end up finding if they’re interested in such content in the first place.
In fact, it’s something that I would have found worrying if it had become widely popular, because then it truly would become a social influence and start affecting people’s views of the world.
As an additional note, some people would argue that the ‘lost-in-translation’ posts that I made might have been a form of promotion for this comic. Perhaps that is true, I don’t know. However, the way I see it, the people who would have seen those posts were individuals already in the fandom, and how I saw it, the fandom needed something more than just the fanart and the fanfics. There were a lot of people explaining why fans of Killing Stalking shouldn’t support the comic, but the problem is - and I know this from experience - the vast majority of fans, especially younger fans, won’t read about people hating what they like.
More often than not, a diehard Harry Potter fan won’t read an article about how much the original Harry Potter books suck, except to judge the person who wrote it. Sure, Killing Stalking isn’t Harry Potter and honestly it’s laughable that I even made that comparison at all, but the nature of fans don’t change from story to story. Fans are fans. Killing Stalking fans either wouldn’t have read or wouldn’t have taken to heart some pretty harsh, legitimate criticisms of the comic, especially when they’re really into it.
If someone is already a fan of something and someone comes up to them telling them (often aggressively) that they are wrong to be a fan, those two individuals are already established as enemies. Heck, we see how heated sports fans get about their teams. It’s also pretty much proven human nature, especially in individualistic societies, that if someone tells you not to do something, you feel the need to continue in order to re-establish your autonomy.
So a large part of why I made those lost-in-translation posts was so that people already in the fandom had someone within the fandom they could engage with who could offer some perspective on some of the more dangerous elements within the story. And people have come to ask me for advice about it, you included, Anon! And I’m genuinely grateful that you value and trust my opinion on topics such as these.
Reasons why “I know it’s not real” is not an adequate excuse for unchecked fandom behavior:
This is a metaphor I spent some time developing, but I think it fits. Though, I did come up with the metaphor thinking of a gun-free area, so it might not apply to all parts of America, aha, but let’s just roll with it:
Say, for instance, you have a model gun. Anyone can tell that it’s fake if they take the time to look at it, but it’s still a pretty accurate depiction of a gun. You know it’s not real, and most adults can tell it’s not real. Saying “the content’s not real, so let people reblog whatever they want” is akin to saying “it’s not a real gun, so let people carry it wherever they want.” Sure, that may be a fair point… except, long-term, carrying realistic model guns wherever you want leads to two distinct but significant problems:
1) Children grow desensitized to the sight of guns.
2) It becomes harder to tell the difference between model and real guns.
Problem 1:If children become desensitized to the sight of guns, they grow desensitized to the true danger that comes with holding a gun. One of the most powerful moments of my life, to date, is the first time I held a big, sharp knife. Because I had never held a knife before, I felt the weight of the metal, saw the glint of the edge, and oh boy, I was a little terrified knowing that I held a potential weapon in my hand. It kept me wary. It kept me careful.
Children who grow up desensitized to guns wouldn’t have that with guns. They wouldn’t feel that same danger, and really, that means there’s just one less hurdle between them and real guns.
Problem 2:Where oh where to begin with this. First of all, if children grow up thinking all the model guns are real guns, they’ll end up getting a real gun instead of a model gun. What will they say when they get caught and in trouble? “Everyone else does it, though!” and it may or may not be true.
Secondly, if some people start carrying real guns around amidst the model guns, and the model guns look realistic too, we have difficulty picking out the real guns from the model guns. We know they’re out there, but we can’t tell which is which. It’s not like you could check every single person out there carrying a model gun.
Thirdly, it becomes more difficult to tell real danger from fake danger. In a model gun society, maybe it’s commonplace for people to point model guns at each other as a joke. Haha, it’s fake, we all laugh. But maybe there’s someone out there being threatened by someone close to them with a real gun, disguised as a joke, and we can’t tell.
The Explanation:Maybe I lost you a bit there. It’s a little difficult to see how this relates to problematic fictional media. But again, let’s take Killing Stalking and pretend it became widely popular and mainstream. If something gets super popular and mainstream, it becomes a fad.
I’ll be honest, I lost this entire section when the post restarted, so I’m going to just give you the cliffnotes version. I’m sorry, I’ll rewrite it at some point;;
1) Children get desensitized easily. Think of any drugs, even alcohol or tobacco. The more you take, the more your body builds a tolerance, the more you need to take next time to have the same effect. The human brain is one of the most changeable parts of the body, and it will do the same thing with fictional media. Repeated exposure to something will have an effect. That’s why exposure therapy exists. Simultaneous exposure is a whole different beast. That’s why Pavlovian conditioning exists.
2) Desensitized children grow up into desensitized adults who think that what they went through / the intensity / content of media they watched was the norm, and they will go on to raise children who might end up even more desensitized than them. Perhaps that would just make it ‘natural social change,’ but is is a desirable one?
3) Also, in the case of Killing Stalking, people wore cosplay with visible signs of abuse to conventions. Some conventions have children attending. I am of the opinion that children should not be exposed to fake signs of physical abuse as that is not something that should be normalized.
4) Just these last two weeks, two separate men in two separate countries Facebook Livestreamed the murders they committed. We are living in a technologically developing society that is simultaneously exhibitionist, voyeuristic, and Orwellian. If media like Killing Stalking became popular and mainstream and encouraged similar media to come onto the market, especially in live-action, it will become harder and harder to distinguish the ‘real’ from the ‘not real’. In the future, someone might livestream someone they keep locked in the basement, reassuring their viewers that it’s all ‘fake’ and just an ‘experimental storytelling’ thing. In a society where such media is commonplace, we just might believe it.
In Closing:
I am aware that not everyone has the patience, energy, or desire to do this research with every controversial piece of media they choose to consume. That’s up to them. However, even these individuals have a responsibility to be mindful about their behavior. Even if you don’t research, if there are people criticizing the content of whatever you are reading/watching, acknowledge that there must be something that bothers some people. You cannot determine that you are right and they are ‘too sensitive’ without actually doing the research.
Be mindful that, no matter what measures people take, there are probably preteens in your fandom. I won’t tell you what to do with that information, but at least keep it in mind.
One person’s mindfulness changes little, but little changes build up. I would write more but it is long and I have a headache, good bye;;
