bluecollar!simon loves hearty, classic british food and idc argue with your mum

bangers and mash, cottage pie, fish and chips. told you how his mum always used to make him beans on toast on rainy days and when you started doing it too, he knew he was gonna wife you up one day

takeaways are his guilty pleasure. he tries not to order them too much because of how costly they can be but when he decides to treat you both he goes all out. there isn’t a type of takeaway cuisine that this man wouldnt absolutely destroy

he has a sweet tooth but he actually likes all the sweets that people tend to hate. loves a bounty, or blackjack. liquorice allsorts and fruit salads. you asked him to surprise you with something when he popped to the corner shop for a pack of cigarettes and he bought you back parma violets (dead sweet idc)

he’s really not a fussy eater. he was raised in a ‘you eat what i’ve cooked you m, or you go to bed hungry’ kinda household so even when he doesn’t particularly want something, he’ll still eat it

doesn’t really like pesto pasta, casseroles or tuna. never said anything to you when you cooked them for him so you just assumed he liked them :( tells your randomly one night years into your relationship and you’re just like ‘huh?’

Bertie Bassett – Inspector Spacetime

Bertie Bassett, the official mascot of the George Bassett & Co. confectioners, is a two-meter tall humanoid made entirely of liquorice allsorts. In a blatantly obvious instance of product placement, he appeared in the Seventh Inspector serial "The Melancholy Mafia".

The serial met with derision from both fans and critics, arguably helped bring about the programme's cancellation a year later, and continues to top surveys of "Worst Inspector Spacetime Story Ever".

Trivia

As BTV was a pro-Thatcher media outlet, Bertie was intended to represent the carefree happiness of the free market, in contrast to the manic-depressive kingpin of the serial's titular mafia—who was based on former Greater London Council leader "Red Ken" Livingstone.

Bassett's also marketed a tie-in product called the "Inspector Spacebar". Unopened original "Spacebars" in their red BOOTH-like wrappers are highly sought-after collector's items.

Bertie Bassett is not to be confused with the character sharing the same first name who appears in the Sixth Inspector serial "Spacewhip".
