Welcome to Alder Bay, Washington
Alder Bay, Washington is like many other western coastal cities that sprung up around the late 1800’s. To this day, signs of the city’s early heritage are fiercely protected. Despite being a city of over 150,000 people, there remains an aura of the old bones of the area. Many of the original buildings remain in the downtown area, and the historical society has made it their sole mission to remember the heritage of the area.
Within the city, many things evolved much like it has anywhere else. Technology advanced throughout the centuries, though magic has influenced things quite heavily. The natural branch of magic has helped to boost the transportation in Alder Bay, making travel extremely efficient and comfortable, thanks to the wards and seals put in place by witches over the years.
Throughout the city there are many forms of public transit available, with the most prolific being their magnetic light rails. With the gift of space-time seals, this means travel throughout the city limits is done mostly through magical means and has rendered automobiles obsolete and mostly unnecessary. There are still a few mundanes that keep with their old habits, choosing to have their own car or take the light rail.
Magic Row
Tucked deep within the center of the downtown area lies Magic Row. Many businesses and shops can be found here, especially the magical ones. A vampire might find an amulet for daytime walking, or mundane might come to find enchanted items that help with their daily life. Werewolves might come looking for something to help their headaches, or to keep them sane during the full moon. There are many different shops, and most people can find whatever they’re looking for here.
Next to the shops, the town hall as well as the courthouse can be found here as well. The area is neat and orderly, with every hedge and tree trimmed to look as neat as possible. Some of the buildings harken back to their roots within the architecture, and even the newer buildings hold that inspiration.
Hidden from the prying eye of the general public lies a secret business run under the table. There is one business, [name here], that offers vampires a place to relax and have a good time without judgment from the rest of the world. Hidden in the basement sits one of the only public blood dens available within the city limits, open to both clients as well as new employees.
Easthallow
Easthallow sits on the edge of the more upscale housing areas in the city. This neighborhood features pristine lawns, multi-million dollar estates, and prestigious neighbors, all flocking to the center point of the neighborhood - the Alder Bay Community College. The college welcomes all sorts, even including several magical courses for those so inclined. Not far off lies a botanical garden with various plants and other flora.
Peppered throughout the botanical garden lies a few sitting areas. In the center lies a park, open to anyone that wants to sit and enjoy nature for a while. The flora within the gardens and the park are lush and green, sustained by magical means. Whimsical fairy lights float all around, giving the whole scene a surreal feeling.
Blightwood
Toward the outskirts of the city lies Blightwood, an area that seems a bit more run down and unkempt than the rest of the city. An air of foreboding floats through Blightwood for anyone who knows that this patch of the city belongs to the wolves. Long ago, the werewolves claimed this part of the city as their own and frowned upon any intruders.
The wolves have divided the land amongst themselves, each pack carving out their own sections and protecting them fiercely. Blightwood drew in the wolves, both new and old, thanks to the Olympic National Forest that lies nearly in their backyard. It’s said if anyone ventures into the area after dark, they can hear howling and other noises from the shadows.
Willowsdale
Those who find Easthallow too high scale, and Blightwood too rough and tumble for themselves might look at Willowsdale as the best place to be. Many of the middle class have settled into this part of the city, giving it a more comfortable feel. There are a few shops scattered throughout the comfortable suburbia that sits close to the outskirts.
One of the most popular beaches in the city can be found here as well, along with a pier that is a popular place to spend time in the warm, sunny summers. Many come here to fish off the pier year round and kids are often found trying to sneak treats and candies from the stalls. Overall, Willowsdale is your typical family friendly suburb if you ignore the coming and goings of vampires who are free to move around now that the sun’s set.
Storms Bluff
Storms Bluff earned its name thanks to its vicinity to the coastline. Many magical users call this little chunk of city their home. Many sea-faring creatures have laid claim here, calling this the ocean’s pearl. Thanks to magic from the witches, many find themselves facing the brunt of a storm along the beach where the bluff meets the water.
The vicinity to the coastline means city goers don’t have too far to travel to reach the beach. It’s a popular destination for those that want to get away from the heavy bustle of the inner city and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the pacific northwest coastline. It’s the perfect place for a personal walk or even an evening in front of a bonfire with friends.
North Pass
North Pass is the other end of town, an area that’s nestled up against the Olympic National Forest. Being on the north end, this section remains unclaimed by the wolves, much to the relief of the other residences. The houses in this area of the city are modest but harbor a beautiful architecture that harkens back to this region’s past.
Due to the outskirts being free of major wolf presence, the edge of the forest offers many hiking trails and other nature excursions for those that enjoy a nice walk in the trees. The wilds aren’t just for the supernatural, after all. One can enjoy trails that go for miles into the wilderness - but be warned. Just because it’s on the north end doesn’t mean it’s free of danger that lurks in the shadows.
Fernsworth
Fernsworth is the center of the city. Nestled next to Magic Row, this gem of a neighborhood is home to a lot of the smaller businesses not found nestled into the main strip. There are a few local restaurants around, as well as other quaint establishments. Anything that’s not suited for the strip can be found in this area.
There are a few modest apartment buildings for those who don't want the modern suburban life, but don’t want to quite deal with the constant bustle of Magic Row itself. It’s a trendy neighborhood to live in, especially for young adults who are spreading their wings for the first time. It’s the most artsy neighborhood as well, with many craft shops and family owned bookstores and cafes tucked into hidden nooks.

Gulch City, an area that once might have been Las Vegas, a traders’ outpost nestled in an arid valley crested by towering mountains, had long been a settlement of the Southern Pauite.
You can find out more about the locations in Gulch City below the cut.
Tumblr media
This city once shone with promise — and in Nuevo Pensamiento, you could still see ghosts of that same promise haunting the streets. Here, if not for the everlasting dark, one might almost think that the Fall didn’t happen, for the lights of the Fallen Palace still go on and off, despite the fact that no one lives there anymore. The hospitals and the church, too, remain well-attended. They still say that you can get whatever it is your heart desires in the Bazaar, almost as if nothing's changed — only now (or so they add, in hushed whispers) you ought take some care in what you wish for.

It was to be the Great Project of History: an everlasting universal exposition of the arts and sciences, where merely walking around the street itself would be a most spectacular extravaganza for the senses — and to live in it a privilege granted only to the monied few. Inventors and artists from all over the world had been invited to partake in a glory that shall last forever. More enterprising people, meanwhile, made sure to snag a ticket so as to secure lucrative patronages from capitalists with perhaps more money than sense. Yet, ever since the Fall, the lights of the technological wonders exhibited in Millennium Street might still burn bright — but they burn against the eternal darkness of the night: half out of defiance, half out of there having no other option.

The smoke-drenched stench-filled streets of Resurrección was once the crown jewel of Gulch City, housing a terminal station for the grand railway project of America. Now, the terminal station goes only Nowhere — and Nowhere is a pretty dangerous place to be, if you're not careful. Pay no mind to the denizens of that most infernal realm having a drink or two at El Maestro. Like you, they’re probably just waiting for their train to arrive. Still, why not have a game or two with them while you wait? This part of town’s near-infamous for the supposedly outrageous winnings you could rake at the table, if you’re lucky enough. A single hand here could get you all set for the rest of your life. Just try your best not to lose — or else.

They say that the Circus had joined the city in its Fall, having recently arrived from goodness knows where to make a quick buck out of the City yet now condemned to share in unearned misery. Still, despite such horrid fate, the circus goes on: fantastical exhibitions that would boggle the mind are a regular here, and there is no shortage for things to do and discover and experience. Why not have your fortune read through innumerable ways mastered by the tellers of the cirque? Just try not to think too much about the circus performers’ familiarity with the Fallen, as well as the rumours that the Circus didn’t really Fall with the city so much as welcome it when it did.

It had once been an oasis in the desert, a spot of fertile green amidst the adobe expanse. Before the Fall, it was miles and miles away from here, yet the constraints of time and space seem but a minor quibble to the Haunted Ones, who seemed to take a most peculiar and unusual delight in bringing it down with the city. Its shallow waters have become, over the years, the baptismal font for the drowned folk: lost sailors of time itself, come back to the living. For the longest time, no one quite knew what to do with the oasis — until, one day, a mysterious figure known only as the Clockmaker decided to make this their abode.

Even before the Fall, there were things people already forgot, places some already turned their backs on. The robber barons with their steam machines and gizmos of tomorrow seem more than desperate in erasing the frontier; but here in Coyote Falls, the frontier yet reigns supreme. The buggy has not yet replaced the horse, and all those fancy gentlefolk's clubs still get called saloons in this here place. There's a myriad of folks from all sorts, each of them hatching all sorts of harebrained scheme almost certainly bound for failure — yet each of them still persisting anyhow. You'll soon come to realise that perhaps that's their strength... and what them Haunted folk fear most of all.

This city had been desert once. Now the desert comes to exact its price. With the Fall came the adobe expanse, endless as far as the eyes can see. It couldn't possibly be, of course — or so the rich folk say with all their highfalutin words and grasping theories that keep trying to make sense of everything. Yet the folks round these parts know full well: you can walk for days and days onto that adobe and never find your way to anywhere, even never find your way back if you're not careful enough. Yet, despite all its dangers, it's the perfect place for hiding from something... if you've got the guts to try your luck out here.

on Naren...
“It was first light when we finally spotted the great rock spires and piled shores of Naren on the horizon. The island was mountainous and covered in a lush green forest, looking much like an emerald set in the silver prongs of a giant ring.”
Notable Inhabitants: Mariel Elodie Frère of Naren
The isle of Naren is a small, lush, and mountainous one located in the vast Farnian Sea. It boasts many large rock spires that surround its shores which bear a striking resemblance to the great horns of a ram. Because of this, it is believed that Rameses, God of Wind and Strength himself, guards the isle and is often referred to as Rameses’ Emerald due to its appearance when approaching its shores by sea. Its beaches are covered in smooth, black sands due to many ancient volcanic eruptions that formed the island in its infancy. This activity is primarily responsible for the highly fertile soil found throughout and the small gemstone mines that dot the isle. The weather is temperate, not experiencing snow during the winters, but many heavy rains instead.
It is sparsely populated and predominantly inhabited by humans, referred to as Narenese by foreigners. They speak a guttural, French-sounding language by the same name. The humans that live there are shorter than average, with men only reaching 5’5” and women being closer to 5’ and, in some cases, as short as 4’10”. Most of them have varying shades of brown colored hair and eyes with light to medium olive-tan skin. Given the appearance of their home isle, most humans here worship Rameses and Shanta more devoutly than Orran, though there are instances in which an individual may worship all three. It should be noted, that Naren’s first settlers were not human, but dwarves who after some generations, relocated to the nearby archipelago of the Hefredies Isles. It is believed that interracial relations between humans and dwarves are the primary cause of the short stature of the Narenese, though no official texts or records support this claim.
The Narenese are hearty, humble people who live off the land, most known for their keen horse breeding and horseback riding abilities. This skill makes their primary and preferred mode of transport the specially bred, Ayla horse. These horses are small and hearty, known for their extraordinary ability to navigate mountainous terrain with ease and responsiveness to reinless riding. Those who are not horse breeders often make their living as farmers, builders, miners, and on rare occasions, seafaring traders. Seafaring traders travel in sailless longboats, usually rowed by ten to twelve men, that only travel for short distances. Their primary destination is usually the neighboring island of Jala, known for its game meat export.
This lack of travel makes Naren a highly self-contained economy and society, with many of its residents never setting foot outside its shores. Because of this, the population is small, and many of its native traditions have been preserved. The most notable of these is the animal sacrifice ritual of the Ageday Sacrament. This ritual involves the sacrifice of a ram when a child is born. All parts of the animal, except the meat, are used to create vestments and good luck charms for the new child. The meat and organs are cooked using traditional methods and fed exclusively to the child’s mother for a swift recovery during her confinement period after childbirth.
The animal's skull is cleaned and kept safe for the child throughout their life, until their death, when they are interred cradling the skull. This is meant as a final offering to Rameses so that he may guard the individual’s soul in the afterlife. Oftentimes these skulls are also displayed during momentous occasions in an individual’s life: marriages, the birth of children, and the losses of family members. This is done in reverence to Rameses so he may bear witness to their struggles and triumphs, granting the individuals strength as they move into their new phases of life.

Michael Afton (personal hc design)
I hc him to be around 19-20 in SL, and He has William's piercing silver eyes, which intimidates a lot of people. He's also an avid fan of the game Midnight Motorist, and wears an official MM jacket.
After the scooping incident, his skin turned purple from the remnant inside him, and his eyes are now hollow, with only white dots in where his eyeballs used to be. Despite that, he mysteriously can still see like a normal person.

timeline of michael my good friend michael :3
thoughts under the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
michael had a pretty decent childhood - his parents both loved him, even if his dad was a bit distant, he always made at least a little bit of time to play or hang out with him. once his siblings came along, though, he was pushed aside, ignored in favor of his younger brother and sister. naturally he has an angsty teen phase, but a lot of it is born from how he feels neglected and distant from his own family. he starts acting out, getting into trouble at school, behaving poorly even at home because it's the only way to get william's attention. unfortunately this ends up making a feedback loop: michael feels neglected -> acts out as a result of that -> william neglects him More because michael isn't fitting his mold of perfection
naturally, things get a lot worse after the bite of 83. william would never hurt his children but he does just straight up start giving michael the cold shoulder. and he'll yell at him. michael, of course, feels horrible soul-crushing guilt about what happened and it certainly doesn't help. his parents divorce, his sister dies, his social life is probably ruined after the bite, and he feels like he has no one left in his life to turn to. so he bottles everything up. slowly, over time, the spark in him fades and he becomes more quietly resentful and unhappy.
when william calls him asking him to go find his sister, he's more than happy to oblige - its the only way he feels like he can make anything right, the one good thing that he could do to maybe win back his father's favour. as you know this doesn't go as planned and he gets his insides scooped out <3
thoughts on the design: i wanted to visually show his progression from a happy, normal kid, to a rebellious teen, to an adult with crippling depression, and then a shambling ourple corpse <3 so as he ages his colors get more desaturated. i think it helps with showing where he's at mentally in his life. he looks a lot like william and thats on purpose, fnaf 2 + SL and what not. 'they thought i was you'. notably though michael is Not a pasty white boy he's half mexican. in my mind. you might've noticed i didnt mention fnaf 2 in the image which is because uhhhmmmm. im still restructuring my timeline so im not sure what to do with it. also i like the idea of frightguard(is that what we're calling it?) henry so thats why 3 has a question mark after it
