Chapter 3: Speaking with Myths

You sail out to the spot you could last remember meeting them, disheartened when the mermen don't, finding yourself questioning all that has happened in the last week, and your childhood and the myth that saturates. Until one does show up, and brings the other, and suddenly there are two mermen on the deck of your small houseboat; one that is tired as the sunset but entertains your several questions, the other who prefers to scare you at any given opportunity and eat the entire bucket of fish you've brought, and both seemingly insistent that you do not leave, they do not leave you, and that there may be something else in the water. This is what you get for being friends with mythical omens of legend.

Love at first sight.

Little continuation to my little Northern Waters AU based on those Mer designs I made AGES ago. Basically Kylo is the part of a large network of Shark shivers, and his mother is the leader. He likes to go on many hunting parties on his own along with his right hand Phasma, a killer wale who owes him a life debt, and forage and explore sunken ships for supplies or cargo. One of these ships so happens to carry exotic mer poached from all over the sea, and while most escape, one so happens to have been trapped for a group of hungry predators to find.

Hux is fully expecting the worst, not fully realizing that Kylo is absolutely hypnotized by the most colourful creature he has ever seen in person. (Phasma’s unimpressed with either).

Do you guys have any idea how long this has been in my WIPs? AGES I say!

A guy doing marine research into phytoplankton is far out to sea and waiting for the samples to be ready when he spots a fast-moving ripple in the water up ahead.

Fully aware that this spot is home to a migratory orca pod, he assumes he's stumbled across an orca hunting a seal and settles against the railing to watch, because it's not every day you get to see that.

The ripples get closer, the shadows in the water more defined, the water choppier, and suddenly the orca and its unfortunate prey are zooming directly towards the boat and he's waiting, breath held, for them to duck right underneath--

When the water breaks, the ocean sprays, and he's suddenly smacked fully in the face by a very wet, very confused, and very pretty merman, throwing them both down onto the deck while the boat rocks as a confused and now quite hungry orca dives beneath it.

The merman, it turns out, thought that the boat was an ice float and didn't realise his mistake until it was too late. But he's very thankful for the impromptu rescue, and wow don't you have nice arms, and holy shit you've got legs, can I touch them? Is that weird? Can I touch them anyway? And your hair--

So of course they get to talking because they're both utterly fascinated with the other, and soon the sun has set and the samples are long-since ready and the moonlight is making the ocean look black and they part with the knowledge that they'll never meet again, and a kiss, and a lingering look over the shoulder for all the things that can't be...

And the researcher gets back to land, moors his boat, readies his samples. He packs up his things, shoves them into his bags, and prepares to go home. He steps onto the jetty boards and thinks of the merman and the solid wood beneath his feet seems to sway for more than one reason.

There's a splash. He turns, pulled as if by the tide, and there's a ripple in the water. A face. A pair of eyes made black by the moonlight.

And this is how the researcher acquires a merman boyfriend who helps him find samples and the merman acquires a human boyfriend who rescues him from whales.

YAAAAY

Technically I still have a Y/N reference I need to finish but for now have fun :) I most likely won't be able to finish it this week :-:

I completely forgot to add Sun's little glowy strings in the back guys I am so sorry I just noticed pls don't hate me-

Notes undercut

I made them siblings!

They usually swim together when they plan in long distances but they are seen separated when they roam in a area for food or other stuff. Their also found in Deepwater but can traverse in open ocean waters, just some times though.

Oh speaking of swimming, they still swim like sitngrays flapping their wings hehe

They can also somewhat control the amount of venom that gets ejected, also I made their venom hallucinogenic

As magical as mers are, they also have their unique trait. Basically if they get bits of indegreints and chew on it for a good while and then they'll blow out a thick iridescent bubble which acts like a potion, pop it and you'll gain the effects

(Idk how to draw bubbles :C)

They also do this to heal a little of their barb if their are any major damages and such

Happy day, @naffeclipse !! (right click each for better quality fghgdf) Apex Polarity had me in a choke-hold and ough ;o; the ending was so intense and then so lovingly soft, I knew I wanted to draw it as soon as I was done reading. 3 days after starting it, here we go!
