Experimenting with dark-skinned Blake with sort of Indian features. She'd be originally born in Vacuo if this were the case.

You are just mad they have shown Atlas for hellhole it was
Yes, totally. I am totally angry at them doing that, that's what it all is about.
glances at the notes for my AU
Wouldn't want Kingdoms to be seen as incompetent, messy or bad...totally not...
I would never do that

One thing I think about a lot is how every nice thing Roman does is tossed back in his face. Try as he might to believe that people are good, and that his decency will be met with any kindness, he gets beaten to a pulp like clockwork.
But somehow, he survives it.
And the one good thing he does that actually benefits him? The one deed that is met with the same genuine kindness, that turns into the only love he's ever gotten to experience?
He dies for it.

Kingdoms
Vale: (Basis: Western Europe + North America): The kingdom of peace, Vale is the safest settlement in the world by way of mountains in the southeast and shallow sea in the northwest. After the Great War, Vale is (begrudgingly) considered the world leader. It's main export is food and clothing, and it's main imports are Dust and artwork. The people there believe the best way to avoid Grimm is to live in peace and harmony, even if a few must be silenced.
Mistral: (Basis: Asia): The kingdom of tradition, Mistral has the largest and oldest territory by far. Until recently, it was ruled by a tyrranical Emperor that demanded absolute obediance of his subjects. In the aftermath of the Faunus war, every member of the Imperial family was slain which created a power vaccum. In modern times, the new rulers of Mistral are considered to be several crime families that run an extensive black market. They are more beloved than the Emperor ever was. It's main export is artwork, and it's main import is technology. The people there believe in following tradition above all else.
Atlas: (Basis: Central & Eastern Europe): Created only 80 years ago from Atlas academy, the kingdom of Atlas is the youngest and most technologically advanced kingdom in the world. Before the Great war, the 3rd world kingdom was traditionally Mantle, the kingdom of cold. It's main exports are Dust and technology, and it's main imports are food and clothing. The people in both Atlas and Mantle believe in freezing their hearts so they never show any emotions that attract the Grimm.
Vacuo: (Basis: Africa & South America): The kingdom survival, Vacuo first obtained it's status of as the 4th world kingdom during the Great war. Before that, Vacuo was a colony controlled by Atlas and Vale. Before that, "Vacuo" was several different kingdoms with hundreds of advanced cultures before any colonizer set foot on the land. After the Great war, Vacuo rarely particpates in worldly affairs anymore. Because of their history, the people there believe in survival by any means necessary, and scoff at offers for help.
Unofficial Kingdoms
Menagerie: (Oceana + Carribean): The so called Faunus homeland founded after the Faunus war, it's main territory is almost entirely cityscape that extends from 1/3rd of the island to the underwater villages populated entirely fish faunus. Each district of the city is it's own autonomous region with it's own laws, including the central White Fang ruled district.
Iaptus: The land in the west. Unlike Sanus, Anima, Solistus, and Menagerie, Iaptus has never been permently settled. People have tried many times, and each time a complete failure. It's coastline is littered with abandoned camps constructed in the day, only to be destroyed by wave, after wave, after wave of Grimm by night. According to legend, this land is the home of the Devil... if only they knew how right they are.

Artificial Suns
Something I’ve changed for this AU that I find interesting, is that each city / kingdom has some sort of beacon of light that’s meant to be their makeshift sun.
Vale: For Vale, that source of light becomes Beacon Tower, and upon the fall of Beacon, Vale is then shrouded in darkness.
Tumblr media
Mistral: For Mistral, its source of “sunlight” are the lighthouses that can be seen around Haven Academy.
Tumblr media
Atlas: Atlas’ makeshift sun becomes the Amity Colosseum. Prior to the colosseum, Atlas most likely had no major light source due to snow storms obscuring visibility and thus making such a light source useless.
Tumblr media
Vacuo: Vacuo becomes the only kingdom without a light source due to the sheer number of sandstorms that would block out any light the people of Vacuo may try to sustain
Tumblr media
Smaller places like Menagerie and villages too far away from cities to see the lights also become shrouded in darkness. But they always find ways to beat the darkness whether by using street lamps, semblances, fires, or other means to sustain light and heat in their small homes. The one man from the Brunswick Farm captured some Apathy Grimm with glowing bone structures to use for both light and to keep his people calm. Of course, we all know how that goes. Safe to say Brunswick Farms is very well lit.

Wants and Shoulds
I’ve been thinking about that talk Weiss, Blake and Yang had in Mountain Glenn. Y’know, this one.
Tumblr media
To summarize, they were starting to wonder if the paths they’ve chosen for their Huntress careers were the right ones. Yang wants an adventure, Blake wants to fight for equal rights, Weiss feels she needs to restore the Schnee family’s honor. The segment indicates that these personal desires are in fact selfish, and that what they should be doing is “helping people”. And while there’s nothing wrong with helping people...
Tumblr media
It’s clear that the Schnee Dust Company’s corruption plays a big role in the suffering of the people. From the first Volume, it is established that the company  is definitely in deep muck, and it’s overwhelming monopoly over...everything... plays a huge role in why things go bad for most of Volume 7. But by reconnecting with her mother and brother, Weiss was able to set into motion the changes that should restore her tainted family.
Tumblr media
And then, there’s the White Fang. As much damage as the SDC and Atlas was doing to the Faunus, the White Fang’s response did not actually help the division, and some ways, actually gave the humans an excuse to keep putting on the pressure. As much as some people see saving Haven as helping the selfish humans, I should point out that it’s probably better for Faunus to stop other Faunus, and the act gave them the stepping stone to force the humans to seeing them as equals.
Tumblr media
And finally, Yang. While Yang’s stated dream seems the most selfish, she does have an additional goal of wanting to find the answer to her mother’s disappearance. And it’s clear that her entire family is so wrapped up in Oz’s Anti-Salem Racket that learning more is crucial to figuring out the true dangers of the world. And on another note, as moments from Ren’s flashback to the Brunswick Farms legend that not all towns can benefit from the protection of Huntsmen, who apparently charge more than they could afford. Just like in the beginning of Volume 4, these places could have used a powerful wanderer to blow by...
Well, that my Not-Ted Talk. BYE, Y’ALL!!!

we see a lot of mistrali citizens listening to ruby’s broadcast in 8.5: jaune’s sister and in-laws + the crowds in the transit station. it has been months since haven academy closed, but—even more so than vale, which gets the subtle glimpse of the dust shop open for business as usual—it’s made clear that mistral is weathering the storm. in fact, for ordinary civilians, it really seems like not much has significantly changed at all.
with that context, i think it becomes profoundly interesting that 1. ruby doesn’t mention mistral in her broadcast at all—admittedly, in part because there’s no one ozpin trusted left in the kingdom—and 2. the kids direct the evacuation to vacuo, an impoverished state they know to be salem’s next target, instead of mistral, the much larger and more prosperous kingdom that they left behind in perfectly good working order after salem’s forces departed. now in one sense, this was a short-term tactical decision in that the kids have an urgent need to get to vacuo before salem does and, with less than an hour to plan a city-wide evacuation, some longer term strategic thinking obviously fell by the wayside. because, yanno, crisis mode.
but! there’s also a beat in before the dawn where jax thinks “with the global cct disabled, vale in ruin, haven leaderless, and atlas closed off, vacuo was theirs for the taking.” and conversely at another point theodore refers to haven as “mistral academy.” so there is a consistent pattern here—across the full spectrum from villain to corrupt old guard to hero—of equating haven academy to the kingdom of mistral and vice versa. ruby gives a shoutout to glynda (who as far as she knows is still actively fighting to reclaim beacon) but says nothing about surviving haven faculty—or about her other allies, like the belladonnas, who presumably got looped in and earned some serious goodwill from the mistrali public by showing up to prevent another beacon from happening at haven.
the conflation of the academies/the huntsmen with the whole world or humanity itself is nothing new—the entire “salem wants to destroy the world/salem wants to destroy the academies” blurriness can only exist because the civilian world is so invisible from within the huntsmen institution—but this feels like it might be the most important occurrence, because there were explicitly thousands of people in mistral watching this broadcast and hearing this huntress mention BEACON but not haven or mistral.
and most of those people would have heard cinder’s broadcast during the vytal festival tournament. the broadcast where she identified herself as mistrali and specifically gestured toward the “undesirable” situation with the huntsmen institution there. what does ruby’s broadcast tell these people?
- the powerful, malevolent entity responsible for the horrific fall of beacon intends to “destroy the huntsman academies”
- this entity already attacked haven, forced the academy to close, and then left. they weathered the storm. they’re safe.
- this person—or someone connected to her, at least—claimed to act out of resistance to, as she saw it, the corrupt and tyrannical huntsmen institution, especially in mistral, and the huntress on the broadcast effectively confirmed that claim
- the huntress in the broadcast also doesn’t acknowledge that mistral even exists
- ???
talk about planting seeds of doubt.
and ordinarily i’d stick this in the headcanon/fic fodder pile because the narrative is clearly headed to vacuo, but… a decent chunk of the major supporting cast is stranded in atlas now. with a falling communications satellite and what amounts to a flying pickup truck as their only resources, meaning that basically the only place they can reasonably escape to is argus.
oh. and anima already has a fairly sizable population of people who don’t like how the kingdom runs things enough to take their chances with the grimm and rampant banditry rather than live within the kingdom’s protection

What role do you think ghira, ilia and the new white fnag will play in the vacuo arc? Besides having cute reactions to bumblby being a thing now.
I hope they don’t do a repeat of what happened at haven where the “good Faunus” save the racist humans so all the Atlesians have a “change of heart”. The last thing this show needs is more respectability politics lol.
Put of everyone ilia seems the most likely to tell the Atlesians to their face that they brought this upon themselves for their complacency in atlas many MANY societal injustices without trying to sugarcoat it.
Simply put? Helping to arm and aid Faunus who can fight, while aiding in taking care of those who cannot. Remember: there's not been a gathering of people this big since the olden days of Ozpin and Salem, so there's going to be MASSIVE tensions between every nation.
But of course, that's not all. The New White Fang is going to need to be one of the lines of aid and defense for the combined forces, and people are NEED to accept their help. I can see them telling off some racist asshat Atlesians who complain about how the "animals" are talking back now and threatening to leave them in the desert or something if they don't accept things as they're moving.
Also, just one other thing about Haven. The choice there was either leave the kingdom itself to die, not just the school, or go and help them. It took the Belladonnas nearly being assassinated and Blake's speech to get some Faunus to WAKE UP about the situation.
And if some people STILL want to cause problems? They can do so in the harsh, unforgiving desert sands. There's too much at stake to cater to racists, and since the show itself has shown our protagonists shutting them down and basically that their ideas don't matter or deserve time in the long run? I don't see any respectability politics being used at this point.
Mistral is arguably a work in progress for now, but Vacuo? Shit, the Atlesians and Mistralians are going to be lucky that Vacuoans don't rip them a new one BEFORE or ALONGSIDE the Faunus. I say this because Atlas and Mistral both drained Vacuo dry of resources following The Great War.
So. Calming the tensions or resolving them between nations is going to be...interesting, to say the least. I don't see The New White Fang prioritizing Atlas citizens (unless they're Faunus, were already poor, etc.) that decide to keep their horrible attitudes intact after everything its done to the world and the Faunus.
This isn't saying I'm wanting fights to break out or people killed, just the tensions to be a factor at this point. Old wounds reopening, a lot of social injustices being called out, the imperialism, colonialism, racism, you get the idea.
Any sort of division at this point only aids Salem, so this is going to be interesting to see how it's resolved. I do like that Ruby's message convinced so many to come to Vacuo. The world tensions aren't going to be solved overnight, but at least they can start by helping defend the kingdom.
TLDR: I want the NWF to help Faunus across the nations, and to be helping defend Vacuo alongside others. I'd also like them to be keeping tensions low, shutting down the racists, and proving to Salem how wrong she was to underestimate and discount Faunus.
The citizens of Atlas have lost their kingdom, homes, and livelihoods. I'd like at least one of the NWF to rub salt in the wound by calling them out on things the nation did, but they'd be one of many doing that. People of Vale would want answers for the Fall of Beacon, Vacuo for the colonialism of both Mistral and Atlas, and Mistral for their lack of support following Beacon's fall.
It doesn't mean that I think all citizens of Atlas necessarily deserve to be treated like dirt, but there's a lot the nation needs to answer for when all is said and done. In the meantime, ensuring people are able to defend themselves and taking no shit from the more bigoted of people from there will absolutely be a good start.
