A farmhouse and surrounding land originally owned by John Denby was purchased in 1734 by Jonathan Tyers, the proprietor of Vauxhall Gardens in London, and converted into a weekend retreat. Its fortunes declined significantly in the 18th century, and in 1835 it was confiscated by the Spanish government and sold to private owners who used its buildings to shelter farm animals.

Cliff Booth X Reader
Request by @multifandomfanfic : "Maybe something along the lines of you're a hitchhiker and you meet him after he picks you up from a hitchhiking experience and then you guys like make out in his car."

The sun was unnecessarily hot today as you dragged your feet along the sidewalk; you were quite a ways away from home. The heat blaring down on your bare shoulders signified you that you were going to be burnt by the end of the day. The sidewalk hurt your feet and your shorts felt especially sticky as you continued towards the open road; your cherry lollipop that you picked up at the convenience store on your little adventure stuck to the roof of your mouth. This summer was brutal.
You passed a couple of signs along the way that were covered with graffiti and dirt. This was Hollywood- home of the stars. Maybe you'd have appreciated it more if it wasn't so grimy. The spots that were uninhabited by celebrities and were filled with the normal working citizens of America were less scenic.
"Hey!" A voice could be heard from behind you and instantly you identified it to be one of the girls from Spahn Ranch. A brunette with large eyes and a tooth gap started making her way towards you with a large jar of pickles under her right arm. Eating one of them herself, she practically throws herself onto you with a smile and a shirt stained with pickle juice.
"Hi." You said, only because you didn't want to be rude. You weren't really a fan of Pussy (the girl, not the thing itself) since she was always a bit more spontaneous and over-the-top than you preferred in a person. She was sweet, just a bit too...
You would've finished that thought, but a pickle was suddenly stuffed into your mouth.
"You like? Stole em' from that place up in town." She said, crunching on another one.
You coughed and took it out of your mouth. "Pussy, I have a sucker."
She laughed with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth and made a similar noise to a hissing cat. Her hair was frizzy now that she had been under the sun and her rainbow top was tied incorrectly behind her neck. These small little things about her made her redeemable in a way.
You smiled. "It's okay, you wacko. Yes, the pickles are good, you should try them with a cherry sucker in the back of your throat too."
She giggled and ran towards the bench just a little ways away from where you were walking. You ditched the candy on the ground and continued to eat the cucumber that was forced into your face. The colorful billboards around you were blinding but extravagant, and you didn't know what sight was more interesting; the colors of the advertisements or Pussy sticking her thumb out at the speeding cars nearby as she drank from the jar. "Asshole!" She screamed at the car that threatened to stop, but made a quick turn and drove off in the other direction.
After what seemed like twenty minutes of sitting with Pussy, a yellow car drove up by the sidewalk and stopped in its tracks. You couldn't really see whoever was behind the wheel, but Pussy looked ecstatic.
"It's Mr. Hawaii!!" She said, and pulled your arm up to the vehicle, forcing you and the stranger to come face to face. He was quite a bit older and very handsome, and he had a nice tan that followed all the way down to the hem of his shirt. Meaning: he was tanned everywhere. And boy, did that leave a nice first impression. Longer hair and sunglasses framed his face as he lifted the lenses above his eyes and rested them on his head. A bright yellow Hawaiian shirt adorned his figure and a cigarette was stuck between his teeth, unlit. To say this guy wasn't the most handsome man you've seen would be a complete and total lie.
"Uh, hey." You said, giving a curt wave. You took notice of how he smiled at you; it was full of warmth and invitation. You blushed, feeling your entire body go hot the moment he flashed his brilliant teeth in your direction.
"Well, hello there," He nodded and then looked at Pussy, "You need a ride?"
Pussy must've noticed how enthralled you were by Mr. Hawaii already, so she nudged you in the direction of the passenger side window and grinned as she saw your cheeks flush once more. "Nope, but they do!"
You mentally cursed the girl but also thanked her because goddamn you really wanted to get in the car with this guy.
"Well alrighty then. Hop in?" He finally lit the cigarette and rested his elbow out the window, looking completely and utterly relaxed. He was so laid back that it almost scared you, wondering if he had any ulterior motives for his car ride. But then again, Pussy wouldn't have introduced you with such excitement if she didn't trust the guy.
You nodded in response and opened the car door, giving Pussy a look saying 'Thank you,' as you sat down. The car radio was playing "Bring A Little Lovin'" by Los Bravos and the familiarity of the popular song put any nerves you had to ease. She shut the door behind you from the outside and grinned, picking up another pickle out of the jar and popping it into her mouth. You were about to say something to her through the open window, but Mr. Hawaii was already speeding away and Pussy had busied herself in flipping someone off from the other side of the street.
It had only been two minutes before the man tried to start a conversation, looking back and forth from you to the mirror. "So, how you know Pussy?" He said with a slight southern accent, something you didn't pick up the first time you'd heard him.
"She's just another hippie from Spahn." You said, looking out at the buildings you passed by. Mr. Hawaii drove pretty carelessly.
"Ah." He said, turning his eyes back to the road. Your eyes caught his hand on the stick shift and a bunch of interesting thoughts ran through your head. You knew you probably shouldn't be fancying him in the way you were, but you couldn't help yourself. "Somethin the matter?"
Oh shit. He had caught you staring.
"Oh nothing! Just looking around your nice car." You said, trying to cover up the fact that you were checking him out. He seemed to accept your answer, but you knew deep down that he was aware of your antics. With that sky smile of his and the cigarette between his lips, you knew you were done for the minute you set foot in the vehicle.
Another moment of silence passes as he continues to drive every which way, effortlessly rounding corners and driving through red lights earning a couple of honks and beeps from other cars. Ironically, you felt totally safe.
"So where'ya heading?" He shook his head, letting the glasses fall down into his face and moving his hair in every which way.
"I'm not really in a rush to get anywhere," you said, now anxious that because you didn't have a set destination that you were wasting his time, "You can drop me off here if you have somewhere to be."
He looked at the watch on his wrist and grinned. "Nah, we can keep goin'," he replied.
You played with the hem of your shirt as you stared awkwardly at your outfit. What to do now? It was probably your turn to start the conversation since he had broken the silence the past two times, yet you didn't know what to say. Luckily for you, he speaks again.
"So," he begins, his little western accent kicking in slightly as he speaks. His mouth was drawn into a smile and he leaned over in the seat, staring at you once the two of you reached a red light. "I know a really great ice cream shop a little ways down from here. We could go if you wanted."
"Sure!" You said, hoping it didn't sound too enthusiastic.
...
The car ride wasn't as silent anymore once you had made it to the shoppe. Picking out a strawberry ice cream while your driver licked away at a blueberry one, you held in your astonishment with the beautiful man before you. Sure, Pussy had forced pickles into your mouth and had annoyed you before but goddamn you were thankful that she introduced you to a specimen as fine as Mr. Hawaii.
"That reminds me," you begin, taking another lick of the sweet goodness, "What's your name?"
"Well, what's yours?" He flashes you that brilliant smile once more.
"(Y/N)." You say while watching his body language. Leaning into the table, he gets slightly closer to you and before you know it, he has a hand by your mouth wiping away the straw strawberry.
"I like (Y/N)." He says, laughing as you get all hot and flustered. "My name's Cliff. Cliff Booth."
You realize that you vaguely remember that name from somewhere, although you can't place a finger on it. Mentally shrugging, you see Cliff go for another bite of his ice cream but fail as he ends up with a glob of it on his nose. Just as he's about to wipe it off, you reach out your hand and do it for him. "Allow me, you helped me out the last time." Grinning, you see his cheeks turn a slight red.
"(Y/N), I'm not usually this blunt but uh...you said you weren't in a rush to get anywhere right?"
Wondering where he was possibly going with this, you nod your head in agreement and give him a quizzical expression.
"Well do you want to make out in my car?"
Nearly choking, you stare at him with wide eyes. There's no way someone as handsome and charismatic as him wanted to make out with you. Especially when you first met via hitchhiking. But something told you this was too good of an opportunity to pass up seeing how eager the two of you seemed. You weren't going to let the insecurities get in the way of this one.
"Uh... Yes?" You said with as much enthusiasm as you could muster in the moment, still being somewhat disconnected that this was the reality that you were living in. He takes your hand and leads you back to the vehicle you would always associate with him after this moment and you both ditch what was left of your ice creams in the nearest trash can. Time seemed to slow as you opened up the door on the passenger side and close it, watching as Cliff gets in the driver's seat. He puts a hand along your jaw, leaning you closer to him as he moves his hand to rest along your thigh.
"Are you sure this is okay?" He asks you, noting not only your physical and emotional well-being but also remembering the slightly less average than normal age gap between you.
"Yes, absolutely."
That was all he needed before he leaned in, placing his lips on yours and holding you pressed against his face. He was soft and kind and added very little pressure as he started to loosen up around you and the tight space the car had to offer. It filled you with claustrophobia but the good kind as it felt there was a closeness you wouldn't have been able to reach anywhere else.
"You taste like strawberries and pickles." He says, pulling away from you just to rest his forehead against yours after a while. Sharp deep breaths were heard all throughout the space as you tried to catch your breath, your face a giant smile and your heart a billion butterflies trying to escape your chest all at once. This was where you felt the most at home.
"Well you taste like blueberries and cigarettes, which happens to be my new favorite taste in the world." You say, leaning in for more affection from the stranger but not stranger before you.
...
(A/N): I hope this is okay! Again, I'm so so sorry that it took me this long to finish your beautiful fanfiction request but I honestly loved writing every part of this short story.
With love, Panko Shrimp 💛 🦐

MRKE, 2021.
It’s April. To me, I feel that nothing’s changed. By now I know that all of my favorite businesses to patronize stayed open. Not one record store on the island shuttered. So far, I was proud of myself to visit Williamsburg’s Rough Trade before their relocation this summer. It was the best $417.00 I ever spent. A pinball parlor opened up at my former local mall to my total surprise. It’s something that Long Island never had before. For eight hours and $25.00 I had more than my money’s worth. It’s safe to say that most of the money is coming back again, even if the third stimulus has no face or feelings of how people either benefit or still suffering. Businesses re-opened after New York State’s mandated closures, like my local ticket arcade where I benefit from buy-twenty-get-twenty specials and half-off games on Wednesdays so I’m relieved. It’s been years since I went and I’m long overdue for a night out of a real life 2021 version of The Price Is Right.
My friend M-Ro, brother of archivist and WUSB’s J-Ro, had been out of a job since the cinema-house closed down. He’s done nothing but stay home with his four kids watching infinite amounts of Disney, long-forgotten sitcoms, and other cringy obscurities. Not long ago, he started working again with a friend who later changed career paths and decided to open Pickle Island, a pickle house in Oyster Bay. He offered M-Ro to help run the place and Pickle Island is now a two-man operation.
I hate pickles. I think they’re disgusting, unappetizing, and revolting, They’re an unattractive food to me. I’d never have a reason to buy them ever, ergo be near a pickle house. But when your friend sells part of their CD and video collections there, then you do have a reason to go. I always support my friends with what they do. Snakeskin belts, local shows, photography books, or new ventures. You sell it, I buy it. I haven’t seen M-Ro since one of his final live performances of This’ll Kill Ya’ for his bro-’s bornday at a crowded bar in Hauppauge, so it’s about time I do.
I traveled west on the Long Island Expressway / Rt. 495 and drove past Exit 46, Sunnyside Blvd. / Plainview, where a once-astonishing world of fresh faces and memories that opened up my junior year was an era long dead. Then up north on Rt. 106 / 107. The last time I traveled down that path was when I worked at the Jewish center post-senior year. I got the girl, a Dutch caramel blonde, and also got the job through her father; a mean, threatening, over-protective scumbag who had me on his shit-list for two summer months because I was dating his daughter. I drive up Rt. 106 / Oyster Bay Rd.’s silent, wide-open, grassy roads riding past the stables and million-dollar houses on hills. View the scenic picturesque neighborhoods and one would think how Nassau County sits at the top ten highest-taxed neighborhoods in the entire U.S. Go up North Shore Rd. and see an amazing grandiose view of the harbor’s massive body of water as you coast over the Bayville Bridge and slide into the parking lot across from Pickle Island. I see M-Ro through the storefront, sitting on the couch minding his own as I walk in. He sees me walking towards and waves hello as I come in.
I unintentionally give him a friendly good-to-see-ya’-again hug. Oops. I realized you’re not supposed to do that in a pandemic world. But it’s two weeks after the fact and we’re still alive. After a few lines of conversation, I said to him that it’d be quick and he knows.
I’m not here for the pickles. I’m here to see what CDs he’s selling. It’s already cramped quarters. A Ms. Pac-Man cocktail cabinet sits behind the front window. There’s a few racks of issues of Captain America, Green Lantern, and Wolverine. Another rack of VHS tapes and a shelf of DVDs and Blu-rays. Then the CDs. They’re from his collection. Some duplicates and others he didn’t care about parting, he says. Eight rows or sixteen shelves of discs in total which would take me no more than ten to fifteen minutes to scan…and some neck pain from having to see it all sideways because that’s how he placed them, you  Tetris artist. I’m already positioned in blocking the owner from going behind the front counter. And an all-too-nice suburbanite family of three just walked in; a father and his two kid who are all so fine and dandy to be there. As if they never experienced a bad day or tragedy in their white-winged innocent lives. Nice to know that Dad Of The Year never looked in my direction and wondered why a stranger is twisting over by the shelves.
Seeing his partial stash, M-Ro was never one to shy away from pop. Jewel, Head Automatica, Pretty Girls Make Graves, some pop-punk, first and third-wave ska, Warped Tour bands…no judgment here. Because he’s a solo artist who goes by The Matt Roren Karaoke Experience doing covers and music videos of various popular chart-topping hits. Before that, he was also part of the legendary local pop-punk / ska band The Microwave Orphans and after that the garage-punk outfit The Repercussions which I ended up getting two CDs of. Don’t Fear…and Modern Sounds were the two most expensive discs I bought at $7.00 and $10.00 respectively, still sealed. Come on. You have to support your friends.
As with any receipt, there’s plenty of firsts. This one, however, had the majority of them. Veruca Salt, Faith No More, and The Posies were bands that my alternative circles of friends from both Brentwood and Plainview were into. A low price point allows me to have them now for the first time. Stabbing Westward, as it’s industrial rock, is in my hands. The Presidents Of The United States Of America? Yes. They wrote that song about peaches so that’s valid. Why not get The Stooges first album with a second disc of live material? And being I have their second album, why not get the first from The Specials? It’s one of the very select few ska bands I’ll allow in my collection. None of that too-important elitist third-wave carnival music. I don’t think I have Phil Collins’ But Seriously, and he was someone I listened to feverishly during my Nintendo youth. And Richard Marx? None of you know who he is and if you did you wouldn’t dare mention his name. But I will. My ma’ loved him and once had the cassette. So both middle digits flying high to you all.
As M-Ro counted up the tab, I look to my right and there it was: a Sony Watchman. It’s the third one in two months I seen. My interest in them started when during my Saturday shift, one of my favorite customers, a young 20-ish redhead with glasses asked me for a power bank. On my way of showing them to her, she mentioned about buying some more accessories for her Watchman. I’m not much of a movie person so that kind of flew over me until she showed me an actual Sony Watchman handheld TV. She took it out of the box and turned it on for me. I almost dropped dead in front of her. I read about these things all the time but never saw one in the wild. Now here it was. She recently bought one at Savers for only $4.00 and bought an analog-to-digital converter from us to try and stream it to her flat-screen TV. She even went a step further and told me the manufacture date on it: 1985. The fact that it was her holding obsolete antiquated technology in her hands and was still in working condition made my entire month for me. I told this story to my friends at the radio station and our resident fantasy aficionado Captain Phil offered to send me one from his eBay store, which I’m now a proud owner. Pickle Island had a larger unit sitting on its counter showing a random movie and I’m wondering if some talking head, celebrity, influencer, or magic cartoon kangaroo on Instagram recently touted them for everyone to grab.
This one-and-done expedition was just as quick as when I visited Rosie’s Vintage three years ago, but not the least expensive. $62.00 later, I was the proud owner of a piece of M-Ro’s life. Not a gift, but a purchase. Being Pickle Island is not a legitimate music store by any means, it doesn’t count towards my record-store victory tour. I thanked M-Ro profusely for my patronage and told him to stay in touch which he would. It’s now time to reverse the drive home under partly cloudy blue skies with a playlist of past Springtime discoveries as the evening’s soundtrack. I’ll get to experience the harbor one more time and get an idea of where to take a scenic shoot in the near future. I’m not taking the L.I.E. this time as it’s cramped with traffic but this time the Northern State to Rt. 25, Rt. 345, and Rt. 454 all the way through. I’ll log on to social media for all of my friends and allies at WUSB to hear about because I never shut up about what I bought. I need the assurance and affirmation from everyone which I bought with my money today and, so far so good, it’s favorable. Then I see this posted under my purchase:
“You’re lucky I left some stuff for you.” said his brother J-Ro.
You don’t say! I had no idea some of his collection was mixed in for sale with his brother’s. So which ones, exactly? Unlike his offering, the stuff I left for him from my collection was totally free and not out of pocket. Take that to the bank and cash it in.

America’s Highest City: Leadville
With an entire day free and nice weather after weeks of daily rain and storms I figured that it would be the opportune time to spend the day in Leadville, about 30 miles south of Copper Mountain. I say “the day” because there is only one bus there at 12pm and one bus back at 6.50pm. So by the time the bus arrives there at 1pm it leaves 6 hours to be filled in with a relatively small town - hence why I had postponed this trip until a nice day! The drive up to Leadville is probably the most scenic drive out of Summit County with loads of nice mountain views as you get into Lake County. Leadville is the second highest elevation city the in USA at 10,152 feet (3,094m), Copper Mountain is a pathetic 9,370 feet (2,855m) in comparison. But I really do live in the highest area of America! In researching those exact heights I discovered that the highest elevation town in the world is La Rinconada in Peru which is at 16,700 feet (5,100m) so Colorado pales in comparison. It’s hard enough to breathe here so I can’t even imagine living another 2000m above sea level! Oh and one more tidbit - humans cannot survive above 20,000 feet due to a lack of oxygen… I got off the bus at the top of the Main Street and started my Leadville adventure at the museum - it cost $6 to go through so I didn’t do the inside portion, just the yard full of mining equipment and a “crib”, a small house that miners would live in. I went for a walk around the back streets here and then returned to Main Street to continue down through all the shops. Many of the souvenir shirts and shot glasses were the same as through all the other ski resort towns nearby just plastered with “Leadville” in place of “Breckenridge” or “Copper Mountain”. I stopped for a coffee at City on a Hill Coffee which was somewhat busy but there were larger communal tables so I took a seat with my flat white and my new book and passed an hour there. I continued all the way down the Main Street of Leadville, branching off to visit the Temple Israel synagogue/museum and the House with the Eye which was a delightful insight to olden timey Leadville. The house had an “eye” much like the houses in Sibiu’s central city in Romania but this was just the singular rather than a pair of eyes. I wandered the front rooms of the house for a few minutes before I was summoned to the back by the museum curator who was in the midst of giving a tour to a lady. I was invited to have a peak around the back rooms which were a kitchen and garage with a couple old buggies and a hearse and then I joined the “tour”. The elderly curator was a strange character but well intentioned, he led us upstairs to the maid’s room and to see the eye window from the inside. He was breathless climbing the stairs and on the way down he paused on the landing to tell us of his misfortunes of his parents both dying and his house burning down during the Covid years. I spent more time exploring around the back streets and browsing shops without buying anything and then I found the antique shop where I spent probably about an hour looking through all the rooms. It was once an old office building with each individual office and hallway now lined with various antiques from old glass bottles and stamps to brass and copper collectibles and clothing. I found a small brass Turkish coffee pot for $12 which I decided to buy. Next I went for an early dinner at Moe’s Original BBQ, I was convinced that Moe himself served me up a delicious pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac and cheese and a banana pudding. It started to drizzle a bit on my walk out of town to the bus stop but luckily it stopped as I sat down to wait while watching some idiot on a dirt bike trying to weave through cones, concrete blockades, and “road closed” signs only to get turned around by construction workers. There was also a commotion behind me at the bus stop when two potheads showed up to wait and ended up dropping their tin of weed all over the ground and desperately try to pick it up ground by ground and save it. A very eventful bus trip home!

American Dreamin': An Indian Adventure
Introduction to the American Dream
The American Dream has long been an aspiration for people around the world, including many Indians. The idea of starting anew in a land of endless opportunities is a powerful one, and the United States of America has been a magnet for Indian immigrants for decades. This article aims to guide Indian travelers on their journey to the USA, providing valuable information on visa requirements, trip preparation, choosing the right destination, transportation options, accommodation, exploring diverse culture and attractions, safety tips, navigating the healthcare system, Indian communities and resources, managing homesickness, and ultimately embracing the American Dream.
Understanding the visa requirements for Indians traveling to the USA
Before embarking on your American adventure, it is crucial to understand the visa requirements for Indians traveling to the USA. The most common visa for Indian tourists is the B-2 visa, which is a non-immigrant visa that allows for temporary leisure or tourism purposes. To apply for this visa, you will need to fill out the DS-160 form, pay the application fee, and schedule an appointment at the nearest US embassy or consulate. It is essential to gather all the necessary documents, such as your passport, visa photographs, proof of financial stability, travel itinerary, and supporting documents to establish your intention to return to India after your trip.
Preparing for your trip - documents, finances, and insurance
Once you have obtained your visa, it is time to prepare for your trip to the USA. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay, and carry both digital and physical copies of important documents like your visa, travel insurance, and flight tickets. It is advisable to inform your bank about your travel plans to avoid any issues with your cards while abroad. Additionally, consider purchasing travel insurance to protect yourself from unexpected medical expenses or trip cancellations. Research and compare different insurance providers to find a policy that suits your needs and budget.
Choosing the right destination in the USA
The United States is a vast country with diverse landscapes, cultures, and attractions. Choosing the right destination for your Indian adventure is crucial to ensure a fulfilling experience. Popular destinations for Indian travelers include cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, which offer a mix of iconic landmarks, cultural experiences, and vibrant city life. However, don't limit yourself to these major cities. Consider exploring lesser-known destinations like Asheville, North Carolina, or Sedona, Arizona, which offer natural beauty and a unique charm. Research each destination's climate, attractions, and Indian community presence to find the perfect fit for your interests and preferences.
Transportation options within the USA
Once you have arrived in the USA, you will need to navigate the vast transportation network to explore your chosen destination. The most common modes of transportation within the country are flights, trains, buses, and rental cars. Domestic flights are a convenient option for long distances, but they can be costly. Trains, such as Amtrak, offer scenic routes and a more relaxed travel experience. Buses, like Greyhound, are a budget-friendly alternative, connecting various cities and towns. If you prefer more flexibility, renting a car allows you to explore at your own pace. However, keep in mind that driving regulations and traffic rules may differ from those in India, so familiarize yourself with local laws and road signs.
Accommodation options for Indian travelers in the USA
Finding suitable accommodation is an essential aspect of any trip. The USA offers a wide range of options to suit different budgets and preferences. Hotels are the most common choice, ranging from budget-friendly to luxury establishments. Websites like Booking.com and Expedia.com can help you find the best deals and read reviews from other travelers. If you prefer a more homely experience, consider booking a vacation rental through platforms like Airbnb or Vrbo. These rentals often provide more space and amenities, making them ideal for families or longer stays. Additionally, hostels and guesthouses offer affordable accommodations, particularly in popular tourist destinations.
Exploring the diverse culture and attractions in the USA
One of the most exciting aspects of traveling to the USA is exploring its diverse culture and attractions. From iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Grand Canyon to vibrant cities and picturesque national parks, the USA has something for everyone. Immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of Times Square in New York City, experience the glitz and glamour of Hollywood in Los Angeles, or marvel at the natural wonders of Yellowstone National Park. Don't forget to taste the local cuisine, as the USA offers a melting pot of flavors from around the world. Each state has its own unique attractions and cultural experiences, so be sure to plan your itinerary accordingly.
Safety tips for Indians traveling to the USA
While the USA is generally a safe country to visit, it is essential to take precautions to ensure your safety during your Indian adventure. Avoid walking alone in unfamiliar or unsafe areas, especially at night. Keep your belongings secure and be mindful of your surroundings, particularly in crowded tourist areas where pickpocketing can occur. Familiarize yourself with emergency contact numbers and the nearest Indian embassy or consulate in case of any unforeseen circumstances. It is also advisable to stay informed about local laws and customs to avoid any unintentional offenses.
Navigating the healthcare system in the USA
Understanding the healthcare system in the USA is crucial to ensure your well-being during your trip. Medical costs in the USA can be significantly higher than in India, so it is essential to have adequate travel insurance that covers medical emergencies. Familiarize yourself with the healthcare facilities and services available in your chosen destination, including hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies. If you require prescription medication, make sure to bring an adequate supply and carry a doctor's note or prescription to avoid any issues at customs. In case of a medical emergency, dial 911 for immediate assistance.
Indian communities and resources in the USA
Indian communities thrive in various cities across the USA, providing a sense of familiarity and support for Indian travelers. These communities often organize cultural events, religious gatherings, and social activities that can help you stay connected to your roots while embracing the American Dream. Online forums and social media groups dedicated to Indian travelers or expats can be valuable resources for information, advice, and networking opportunities. Take advantage of these communities to make new friends, seek guidance, and share your experiences.
Tips for managing homesickness while traveling to the USA
Homesickness is a common feeling when traveling to a foreign country, especially for an extended period. To manage homesickness, stay connected with your loved ones back home through video calls, messaging apps, or social media platforms. Embrace technology to bridge the distance and share your experiences with them. Additionally, seek out Indian restaurants, grocery stores, or cultural events in your chosen destination to find a taste of home. Engaging in activities that remind you of your roots can help alleviate homesickness and provide a sense of belonging.
Conclusion and embracing the American Dream
As an Indian traveler embarking on an American adventure, you have the opportunity to embrace the American Dream and create memories that will last a lifetime. By understanding the visa requirements, preparing for your trip, choosing the right destination, navigating transportation and accommodation options, exploring diverse culture and attractions, prioritizing safety and healthcare, connecting with Indian communities, and managing homesickness, you can make the most of your experience. Embrace the opportunities that come your way, be open to new experiences, and remember that the American Dream is within your reach. Safe travels and enjoy your Indian adventure in the USA!
