#BestOf2022 from @MisplacedStraws "As the year comes to a close, it’s time to look back on the #bestalbums and songs of 2022. With so many acts releasing high-quality music during the pandemic, I thought this year would be sort of a down year. As I began to look back, I was very wrong. There were some #amazingrecords released this year, so the countdown will be in 2 parts. This post will have 20-11." 💥 ThankYou it's wonderful for #BaddertotheBone to be recognized among this fabulous list of #recordingartists 💙 #NewMusic #BestOftheYear #YearEndList #MisplacedStraws #BestMusic #OnlineMusic #MusicCritic #RockNRoll #PowerRock #SoulBlues #ModernBlues #PowerBluesrock #DetroitBlues #ContemporaryBlues #WomenWhorock #WomeninBlues #Bluesrock 🔥 #ElizaNeals (at New England) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmeiKb9OqwN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Portrait of music critic and author Edward 'Eddy' Sackville-West (1901-1965). Eddy was the 5th Baron Sackville and, indeed, cousin of author and gardener Vita Sackville-West. Eddy inherited Vita's beloved family home Knole, much to Vita's despair - all her life, she identified strongly with Knole, a bond her great friend and lover Virginia Woolf immortalized in her brilliant 1928 novel Orlando. But let's return to Eddy! He was an important music critic and supported several contemporary British composers. He especially helped and encouraged Benjamin Britten throughout his career, feeling passionate about his music and, probably, also about Britten himself, even writing him in 1942 'how unspeakably I love you!' Britten, later on, dedicated his Serenade for horn and tenor to Eddy. #edwardsackvillewest #eddysackvillewest #vitasackvillewest #virginiawoolf #orlando #literature #queerauthor #musiccritic #benjaminbritten #knole #knolehouse #britishcomposers #classicalmusic #portrait https://www.instagram.com/p/Cft0MS3NXHz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Songs that S.B. Kates Found Which They Enjoy - November 2022
This monthly playlist I've begun making has a simple premise: I will listen to music that's new to me, and pick songs that I like. I want to do this all the time, and new songs come out all the time, so I will do this every month.
This playlist isn't purely newly released tracks. It also includes older recordings, whose name I didn't know before, or that I hadn't heard earlier.
The main genres are pop, electronic, rock, and hip-hop, but other styles fade in and out, at times.
SORRY BARBIE - Todrick Hall
This is an extremely gay track, seemingly made as a response to the 1997 Aqua song, Barbie Girl.
Madonna – Hung Up
I had heard this 2005 song before, but I had never placed its name. I count that as a discovery. Pleasing dance pop.
Sam Smith & Kim Petras – Unholy
Slickly produced monk chants about sinning, with a just-barely-there ass-shaking beat.
Baby Tate – Perfect
This song gave me an idea for a therapy technique for those with low confidence, where a rap lyricist and a beat master would help the patient write a boast track about their good qualities.
Bbno$ - top gun
I’m just happy that hip hop seems to be going through another phase where funny lyrics are popular. This whole album is worth listening to.
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien – Mistadobalina
This 1991 song by the rapper who I mostly know for being in Gorillaz is absurd and playful. I found it on a crafting TikTok.
Jean Dawson – Sick Of It*
This song is from this year, but what a time warp to 2002’s emo / punk pop. There’s also some Pixies influence in the guitar.
Marlon Williams – Don’t Go Back
I enjoyed this whole new album of expressive, softly-sung, indie rock by a New Zealand born singer-songwriter.
Billy Nomates – Balance is Gone
“My spirit guide is John from the fifth floor, I don’t believe in healing anymore.” Extremely relatable lyrics in this synthy lowfi.
Amy Lawton – Panic
A confessional pop song about creating a temporary personality custom-fit to suit every social situation. Anybody who has to craft themselves for public consumption might be able to relate.
Zoë Johnston – The Sky
From 2006. This artist is all over dozens of beautiful trance songs. I found her solitary work, and I love her voice and melodies there, too.
Dave Brubeck Quartet & Paul Desmond – Take Five (from Koto Song)
“Take Five” is a song I end up listening to frequently, from the 1959 LP "Time Out". The 1964 live album "Koto Song" was new to me this month, though, including this more lively, and more stretched-out, version of this song.
FISHER – Palm Beach Banga
A pure dance song, newly released, that I enjoyed. Vintage-feeling vocal sample.
ARTBAT, David Guetta & Idris Elba – It’s Ours
Apparently, Idris Elba DJ’s, and lends his distinctive voice to music projects. I imagine his character from “3000 years of longing” singing the vocals on this trance track.
DJ Snake – Disco Maghreb
DJ Snake is connecting to his Algerian roots in this track. His effort results in a beat that begs for a huge wedding hall dance floor.
Dave Grohl, Joshua Homme & Trent Reznor - Mantra
From 2013. A trance-like song by some of my favorite rock musicians to end this month’s playlist on a quieter note.

JUICE POTTER & ’Project Potter’ Forthcoming Release
By: Irate Specialist
Rappers these days are always commenting on their drip, and when their music drops, it leaves a lot to be desired. Therefore there is always something satisfying about artists with drip, dropping heat, and making waves. The key to this equation may be having the juice, and local artist Juice Potter has made it clear with previous drops his cup is runneth over. “He is a hard-working guy who’s trying to have fun and bring his people up,” said Potter. This, along with an awareness of the current music scene, gave Potter the inspiration and motivation for his first official mixtape Project Potter coming mid-October.
A wizard in his own right, Potter, makes a conscious effort to bring joy and pain to all his records. Inspired by New Orleans bounce music and the everyday struggles of growing up in the street life, his tracks are like sunshine and rain. “It’s a bit of bounce music mixed with a little pain and mix in some street and melodic and put all that in a blender,” said Potter. “You gonna hear this pain, but you gonna get lit to this pain.” Listening to the tracks like A.R.M and Project Pott, which Potter has streaming on all platforms, really showcase this young word wizard's use of applied alchemy.
After the success of his first hit, Down Bad Potter dropped an ep entitled Potterville featuring the track “A.R.M.” This track became an anthem for those who had a ride or die shorty at their side and has an interesting backstory. You can listen to the story on the Music and Mindfulness Podcast in Irate Specialist’s bio.
instagram
Fast forward to this year. Potter released the single Project Pott as a teaser to his upcoming project. “Project Pott” was inspired by Project Pat and Three 6 Mafia’s Poppin My Collar, and Potter made sure to carry their energy into it as well. “I named it Project Pott because of the way I came on the track,” said Potter. “Project Pott became the song everybody was giving me credit for. So Project Pott began to mean to me [proof] that I built this from the ground up.”  This track is super impressive. Besides this, it is mostly a freestyle. It’s also full of energy and is sure to make you feel ready to turn up regardless of the quarantine blues.
The themes of embracing pain and transmuting it into fun inspired Potter to feel like the time is right for his debut mixtape. ”I built this from the ground up, and I’m still building [so] Project Potter just felt right,” said Potter. “Most of my inspiration came from everyday living. Just real-life inspiration.” These moments Potter mentions are based on the ten tracks that Potter will include on the project, not including an interest peaking bonus track. To illustrate exactly how he captured these moments in the music, Potter introduced me to the song “Sauce,” which will be on the mixtape.
“Sauce” comes from an experience Potter had shopping with his cousin over quarantine. “We were looking at some clothes online, and I’m adding to my cart, thinking that’s cheap, that’s cheap until you look at the cart,” said Potter. “He [Potter’s cousin] was like you ballin? I’m like I don’t care what it cost. This what I want this what Imma get.” The message of ”I don’t care what it cost” stuck with Potter until he heard the instrumental and knew that it was time to make it into some magic. Potter’s knack for catchy hooks and bar heavy flows take this song to the next level and remind you what it’s like to see a wizard do his work. Though it was only one song, if the rest of the project is going to sound similar, there’s no doubt that it has potential to be the soundtrack to your Saturday night.
instagram
Asking Potter what to expect from this upcoming project also shed some light on how Potter intended to have fun making music so listeners can have fun tuning in. “For the niggas ya should expect to nod y’all head, do y’all little dances,” said Potter, “For the females expect to shake your ass.” Looking at Potter’s previous work and listening to the track from the tape, it’s easy to see that “Project Potter” is most certainly going to be a feel-good project in a time where there’s so much that can keep us down.
If you need your proof, I encourage you to check out the hits Potter already has out on streaming platforms and the Music and Mindfulness podcast by Irate Specialist to hear a sneak peek of the track Sauce. Also, make sure to watch out for Juice Potter’s new mixtape Project Potter coming mid-October.

Top 5/Bottom 5: The Rolling Stones
If you’re anything like me, you love to listen to, talk about, and even argue about music. In that spirit I’ve decided to embark on a little project. Each week I’ll be listing my top 5 and bottom 5 songs from an artist or band that I love, or at least like. Disagree? Let me know, that’s half the fun.
Considered by many to be the world’s greatest rock and roll band, the Rolling Stones have now been making music for over 50 years. That makes their vast catalogue an ideal one to pick through and select highlights and lowlights.
Top 5:
●      “Satisfaction”: Yes, I know we’ve all heard it too many times, and yes, I know there are many (including Keith) who argue that Otis Redding’s version is actually superior, and they may be right. But this is just about a perfect pop/rock song, with its propulsive groove, that classic stupid simple riff, and its great petulant, bratty rock and roll lyrics dissing and dismissing everything from “some girl” to “the man… on the radio” hawking the latest products for instant happiness and fulfillment. Maybe the most important song in establishing the Stones as a group with its own attitude and sound–what we might now call its own “brand.” Classic for a reason.
●      “Wild Horses”: For me it’s just about a tossup between this and “Can’t Always Get What You Want” for greatest Stones ballad, but I give the edge to “Horses” because it feels a little more specific and a little more real to me. Though I always liked it, this was a song that truly meant something to me once I had actually experienced heartbreak a couple times, and no matter how many times I hear it, it still works. It’s also a great arrangement–I love the way the drums just disappear for entire verses and come back in on the choruses, and the lead guitar and the 12 string rhythm are so beautiful and restrained, perfect illustrations of the Stones’ just-enough musicianship approach.
●      “Beast of Burden”: The greatest soul tune in the Stones’ oeuvre in my opinion. A great guitar intro, a great mid-tempo groove, and lyrics that walk the line between self-doubt and seduction. From the last truly great Stones album in my opinion, 1978’s Some Girls.
●      “Tumbling Dice”: It’s all about the groove. No song better exemplifies what I’d call the middle-period Stones, the time when in my opinion they went from being a very good rock and roll band to being a band that had its own complete signature sound. This kind of mid-tempo rock groove, with the classic Keith Richards/Charlie Watts push/pull interplay is what really sets the Stones of Let It Bleed through It’s Only Rock and Roll apart, and it’s the most easily identified sound in bands obviously inspired by the Stones. No matter how many bands attempt it (the Black Crowes come to mind), it just can’t quite be matched. One of the greatest songs on what many, including that similarly named publication Rolling Stone, consider the greatest Rolling Stones album, Exile on Main Street.
●      “Gimme Shelter”: Another one of the greatest mid-period Stones songs, this one for me is all about the production. I’ve heard plenty of live versions of this, along with plenty of covers, and for me none come close to matching the Let it Bleed studio version’s grandeur and menace. The lyric demands big music, and the studio version delivers it. Where most live versions are too fast, the tempo of the album version is perfect to convey the gathering storms, both actual and psychological, depicted in the lyrics. The sometimes swampy. sometimes stinging guitar sounds; the almost operatic backing vocals; the howling harmonica; the thundering piano, all add to a glorious rock and roll mass.
 Bottom 5:
●      “Angie”: “Angie/Aaaaann-jay”–I consider this the other side of the “Wild Horses” coin. Is it about David Bowie’s then-wife Angela? Is it about Anita Pallenberg? Is it about Keith Richards’s daughter? Who cares? What it is is a saccharine ballad with some drippy strings and piano, and Mick Jagger overly enunciating every syllable for effect. It’s also possible that my negative opinion of the song was reinforced by the junkie who used to come in to the Guitar Center near Union Square in New York where I worked, who would sit on a stool, play the beginning of the song, start singing to himself and almost invariably nod off. You and me both, buddy.
●      “Start Me Up”: Ok, I’ll admit this one seems a little too easy to hate. Maybe I don’t actually hate it, but it’s so ubiquitous as to be borderline annoying almost every time I hear it. It’s a good guitar riff that in my opinion doesn’t quite measure up to Keith’s greatest. Something about the song just gives me ‘80s rock beer commercial vibes, even if its most famous commercial use was actually for Microsoft.
●      “Anybody Seen My Baby”: This song just sucks. A weak attempt to use some of the mid-‘90s electronic dance production techniques that were so in vogue, and were much better utilized by artists like David Bowie. (Bowie of course produced some blatant Stones pastiches in the ‘70s.) And sure, you could list any number of the Stones songs from the mid-‘80s on as among their weaker songs, but some of them are actually pretty fun if you don’t listen too closely. Not this one. Amusingly, Keith Richards recounts in his autobiography that Mick Jagger accidentally stole part of the melody from a KD Lang song, and the band subsequently had to give her partial songwriting credit. A dubious honor in this case, but no doubt financially rewarding.
●      “Have You Seen Your Mother Baby?”: What the hell is this song? Glad you asked. It is a psychedelic relic of anti-authority nonsense. On the other hand if this were a Pretty Things song it would be one of the best things they ever did. What an overrated music dork band they were.
●      “It’s All Over Now”: Just kidding, this song rules.

My first Post (pun intended)
So for my first blog post, thank you to the impeccable timing, I get to talk through the new album of one of my favorite artists -- Post Malone. He has rose to fame in the last couple of years, known for his rap beats and pop anthems. This album is different, but his best yet.
Tumblr media
This is Post’s 3rd studio album, and to be honest it is his best one yet. In interviews before the album’s release, he mentioned how he’d always wanted to release music like the songs on this album. The difference between his previous albums is apparent, as this album has more of a rock/pop feel rather than the rap/r&b feel that Stoney and Beerbongs & Bentleys had. Each of the 17 songs on the album come with a different flavor and the featured artists add more extra seasoning to them.
Full album:
Hollywood’s Bleeding
Saint-Tropez
Enemies (feat. Da Baby)
Allergic
A Thousand Bad Times
Circles
Die For Me (feat. Future & Halsey)
On the Road (feat. Meek Mill & Lil Baby)
Take What You Want (feat. Ozzy Osborne & Travis Scott)
I’m Gonna Be
Staring At The Sun (feat. SZA)
Sunflower (feat. Swae Lee)
Internet
Goodbyes (feat. Young Thug)
Myself
I Know
Wow.

Here comes the cowboy- Mac DeMarco.
Nota: 5,5/10
Fav Tracks: Nobody, On The Square, Heart To Heart, All Of Our Yesterdays
Least Tracks: Hey Cowgirl, Here Comes The Cowboy, Choo Choo

💠Nim Sadot - Nim Quartet ✅ 10/10 🔊 Obey The Fist . If you’re wanting to “get into jazz” this is a good place to start. This is a modern sounding, bass-forward Nu Jazz outfit fronted by Israeli bass wizard Nim Sadot. The tracks bob and groove for days and the improvisations are concise and tasteful. A lot of killer, no filler. This is a project I highly recommend specially for bassists and modern listeners.
