Favourite Character:

Kenjaku (big surprise)

Favourite Arc/Episode/Scene:

That's a tough pick...I pretty much like the entire Culling Game Arc (ch 159 - 220) and Perfect Preparation is definitely also a fave, but if I would narrow it down a bit more, I'd say it's the stretch from Kenjaku's negotiations with other countries in chapter 200 until the preparation to release Gojo in chapter 220. I just really like the focus we get on Kenjaku's character there, the extra world building and lore and I also appreciate how dynamic and spontaneous things were during that time. The plans of the protagonists where often completely overthrown and you never quite knew what to expect and what might happen next. (I really miss that energy) I'd also like to mention the Baka Survivor mini-arc, which was such a breath of fresh air and did so much to give Kenjaku's and Takaba's characters much needed depth. I never expected it to be so important when it started. Shows that Gege can make the most ridiculous scenario meaningful if they want to. I think for favourite scene, Kenjaku's one-sided talk with Tengen in chapter 222 before the static TV is still my absolute favourite. It's such striking imagery, showed a whole new layer to their character and relationship with Tengen (establishing that despite technically getting what they wanted they realize this has basically completely destroyed their friendship with Tengen and left them unsatisfied) and sets up what made the Baka Survivor arc so successful.

Character I Think is Underrated:

There's a bunch. Takaba, Angel, Tengen and I'd also count Kenjaku because despite being the main antagonist who drives the entire plot forward, many fans still completely overlook them and their influence and at best boil them down to a generic cold Mastermind a la Aizen 2.0 or just make jokes about them giving birth to Yuuji/fucking Jin. It has gotten a little better since the Baka Survivor arc, at least in the Japanese fandom there seems to be a bit more appreciation there.

Character I Think is Overrated:

Geto. His downfall was well-written in Hidden Inventory, but aside from that I don't think he's all that interesting or exceptional. Also Inumaki. He's basically non-existent and irrelevant in the manga, but for some reason always in the top 10 of most popular characters.

Favourite Ship/Pairing:

Tengen/Kenjaku - special mix of obsession, toxicity, codependency and vore

Something I Love About the Show/Movie:

The way jjk fleshes out side characters and gives them meaning with barely a chapter or less. I also like the way supernatural has been interconnected with the real world and history. That's what makes it so fascinating to me and makes me want to dig deeper. I'm not a big fan of high fantasy or "real world but everyone is magical" settings, so jjk struck a good balance there.

Monster

Favourite Character:

Johan Liebert. Generic answer, I know, but he's one of the few anime villains I actually found scary and threatening. I was always on edge while watching the show, wondering when he would show up and even if he was there, what he would do. Just seeing him standing next to a kid is so stressful, even if he doesn't end up doing anything (just means the child will kill themselves later). I also love his co-dependent, obsessive relationship with Nina and the entire mystery about their past.

Favourite Arc/Episode/Scene:

Prague arc. Like I said, the mystery around Johan and Nina's origins is a big appeal for me for the series and this is all that. It also shows just how versatile Johan is. They also captured the atmosphere of Prague as a city, particularly at night really well. Similar to that, episode 49 where the kids are trying to catch JohAnna and one boy gets send to the red light district is probably my favourite. I like it especially because the focus isn't so much on the adult characters, but you really experience Johan from the eyes of an innocent child who just wanted to play detective and accidentally ran into a real serial killer. The chase of of Tenma & Co. was nerve-wrecking to watch because they're always just a little to late. The scene where JohAnna talks to Milosh about how his existence has no meaning is the main reason why just Noto Mamiko in any other anime stresses me out.

Character I Think is Underrated:

None really. I think the fandom shows a lot of appreciation to every important or minor character.

Character I Think is Overrated:

Tenma. He's just...a little annoying. I got very tired of everyone treating him like a saint for the most basic human decency. Also him angsting over having to kill Johan and only he can do it etc. got old pretty quickly for me. I know what he's supposed to represent, but I just think he's not very interesting to watch.

Favourite Ship/Pairing:

Johan/Jan. I just have a thing for naive regular guys falling for murderers. Johan also had a chance to kill him or his mother, but instead he helped them, so...he treated Jan a lot better than most of his victims. Also in a platonic sense, everything about Johan and Nina drives me insane.

Something I Love About the Show/Movie:

The side stories we are taken on, which all are significant often in ways you didn't expect and they are what make the story feel so human and down-to-earth despite the wild stuff that happens. I also love the inclusion of the fairy tales. I still have trauma from the way Nina reads Obluda in the anime. Just hearing 昔々ある所に gives me chills every time. Bůh Míru/The God of Peace is my favourite of the stories. The open end, the implication of suicide is what makes it so frightening exactly because everything is left to your imagination, plus the knowledge that kids who heard the story went through with what is being implied.

Favourite Character(s)

Out of the "main" casts for all of the games, and if I had a gun to my head to pick only one, I'd have to choose Dr. Tenenbaum. She's such an intriguing woman in every iteration she's had in the series, and I find her voice very soothing for some odd reason. Sander Cohen and Augustus Sinclair are tied with her for the spot, of course, since charming men with multiple quirks and expanded caricature personalities are my weakness-

But, and this may be cheating a little, Bill McDonough is an underrated fave of mine. Man built most of Rapture and has such a presence throughout the first game that you only notice it upon replaying! Plus, I'm a big fan of the prequel novel,,

Favourite Secondary Character(s)

When I tell ya'll I would straight up kill a man for Jasmine Jolene, I am not kidding. That woman deserved so much better, and I want to give her that life, I swear to GOD!! The same sentiment goes for Mark Meltzer, that poor man :c

Favourite Level(s)

It would be a crime not to say Fort Frolic since I adore the hell out of it design-wise and gameplay-wise, but I'm also kinda into the entire vibe of the second episode of Burial at Sea, specifically the Ryan the Lion Academy. Something about the environment and how this caricature of Andrew Ryan as a children's propaganda mascot intrigues me.

Favourite Fight(s)

Atlas, hands down. I just kicked his ass on Survivor Mode the other day, and it was SO satisfying!! I never tire of destroying him or the cutscene where the Little Sisters stab him to death.

Favourite of the Games

I'm such a sucker for the series' primary narrative trait of "father-daughter adventure time" in other media (see Detroit Become Human and TTWDG). Still, Bioshock 2 hit me on a whole other level. I am so enamoured by Delta's relationship with Eleanor, and it's so far the game I've played through the most.

I would obliterate entire armies for Eleanor.

Favourite DLC

It's a tie between Minerva's Den and Burial at Sea II. Both struck me in very different parts of my writer-monkey brain, and I was so pleased with them story-wise. Plus, I love any reference to Athena in anything ever, so I am a bit biased-

Favourite Weapon(s)

Shotgun/Machine Gun gang, baby!!! Trap bolts and mini-turrets are also very fun; I like to be elaborate with my beat-em-ups :)c

Favourite Plasmid/Vigor

INSECT SWARM!!! I am an Insect Swarm stan, and I will not debate it. Incinerate and Murder of Crows are also very fun, and I would like to consider Peeping Tom to be SEVERELY underrated.

Favourite Tonic(s)

I actively go out of my way to get Human Inferno II and Vending Expert II. they bring me peace in the game.

Do I Like Hacking?

No, absolutely not. The minigame stresses me out, so I spend SO much on auto hacks.

Favourite Enemy Type

Big Daddies intrigue me the most design-wise, but I like the Houdini and Spider splicers best. Maybe because watching them get burnt and stung to all hell is super satisfying. I like my bees and fire; what can I say?

9. Least favourite class trial?

ough. this is hard bc the trials are always my favorite part of the games hehehe. i think a lot of the trials in v3 kind of fell flat for me just bc... i didn't like v3 very much LMFAO

i think my least favorite was proooobably v3's chapter 5 just because thh and gbd set the bar SO high for me, where by c5 of v3 i was like. yeah i know what's going to happen here just get on with it lol. it wasn't a BAD trial per se, just definitely did not meet my expectations ://

19. Who do you think is an underrated character?

HARD LMFAO uhhhh overall i think ryouma gets shafted a lot in the fandom bc of his nontraditional character design but he's so cool!! i also think that despite being relatively popular hagakure and asahina get pushed to the side a lot when it comes to the thh survivors, which sucks because they're some of my all time faves + i really enjoy the levity they bring to the rest of the survivors

1. Ysayle my wife Ysayle. Have you met my wife Ysayle she deserved so much more than she got and I really don't know where to begin. I am so mad we'll never get to explore her relationship with the primal she created or see her work with Aymeric to create better relationships with Ishgard. also her sotmd mod fucking SLAPS

2. Alisaie my daughter light of my life. I love her, she's the best part of stormblood and her character is just so good. Her arc and her navigating being the fighter and having strong emotions but feeling like she'll never live up to her brother cause she's not the same kind of skilled he is. Augh. Also her and her brother...trans. in all ways at once.

3. Arenvald. Underrated and underutilized. SE made a character whos entire thing was "I wish I was like you, the main character, but I'm an average person" and then also created a potential story about being biracial and squandered all of it. I'd give him my organs if he asked but he's too polite for that.

4. Ryne. My other daughter who deserves the world. Canonically dating a goth queen and I really wish she'd gotten to talk more about her feelings but unfortunately a lot of that time was taken up by Thancred (who while I enjoy did not deserve to have all of Ryne's story be about his feelings instead of hers regardless of his manpain). But the moment with her where she talks with the wol in the faerie territory on the cliff and then the AMAZING eldritch horror moment with Titania right after...ugh. forever fave

5. Feo Ul. God. Okay. When I first met them I wasn't convinced that they'd be good for the story but the writers really managed to balance their fascination with mortals and their being a fae who can only live in the moment. The strange mix of being otherworldly and yet still caring about the wol fucks me up. I cried when they offered me their crown

Honorable mention: Lyna because I love underdeveloped characters more than I should but you have no idea how much I loved the moment when she tried to stand and collapsed and talked about her survivors guilt and the burden of leadership. Also I want her to confess she's old as fuck cause her race lives standard elf lifespans

1. Blueberries. She is the moment. By themselves, in desserts, in smoothies. I love blueberries

3. Strawberries. I'm a big berry fan actually

reasons why murphy doesn't get half the credit he deserves up

his mom was a drunk before she died, so he was probably seriously neglected

and he let pike humiliate him by spilling personal information before beating him up in front of his friends

he was almost hung and no one felt for him, instead they felt it fit to banish him so…

he got tortured by grounders and people still (bellamy, cough, cough) wanted to kill him

he saved mel AND BELLAMY who were hanging off a cliff by holding two ropes together

and tried to keep finn from murdering 18 grounders, then gets blamed by clarke for the massacre.

jaha kind of forced him to go on his dumbass journey that kills everyone except them and murphy just turns up his level of sass like a boss

this isn’t even half of it

he gave emori his water and saved her life from that city of light goon - he got locked in a bunker that almost drove him to suicide

then got out only to be captured and tortured again by coalition warriors

and that’s before ontati “took a liking to him”

and emori got possessed by alie and betrayed him horribly

but then he gets the task of keeping ontari’s heart beating to keep clarke alive

and he goes on to put up with raven’s shit against him, ie: calling him a cockaroach (repeatedly) and attacking him

then, during praimfaya, he goes back with bellamy to save monty

and a few other general facts include:

he only has killed two people, both in season 1, and clarke, bellamy, and octavia have all killed so many more people than him it’s incredible that they still feel it’s okay to think of him as beneath them

he really has changed from season 1 to 4, and no one really ever acknowledges that

if you think about it, he has the most battle scars, both physically and mentally

oh, and for some reason, everyone except the sky parents and emori decide to call him by his last name, like he’s disconnected from them

he is a badass character, and not enough people realize how much he contributes to the plot

his lines are pure

“rough landing”

“he’s heard one too many of your inspirational speeches”

“what level of crazy is too much for you? i’m just curious”

“i will end you… in a non-criminal way”

generally, i think he’s a super unappreciated, underrated character who deserves a lot more respect than what he has

and he still wants to help the people who betrayed him

i mean, everone tried to make him a monster, but he still has such a big heart, it’s infuriating that almost everyone still treats him like shit

and I definitely forgot some.

Idk if people know how I feel about these characters, so here ya go! This is my opinion, please don’t attack me for this (also I only did this for the mainline games and Komaru + the Warriors of Hope)

...Also I wanted to go into detail on some of these so yeah Warning: it does get pretty rambly

S tier

A tier

Chiaki Nanami Please don’t kill me for not putting her in S. I can explain, I promise Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore her and love her relationship with Hajime, but I didn’t really get as attached to her as I did with other characters. I still love her though

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu He has one of the best character arcs in the series, only JUST being outranked by Shuichi. Seriously, best SDR2 survivor, hands DOWN.

Ultimate Imposter Yep. Fake Togami outranks actual Togami by miles. YEAH I SAID IT! Idk, I found them a lot more interesting and likeable than Togami and it was a real shame they got killed off so early. They were pretty fun.

Ryoma Hoshi ...Do I even need to explain why he ranked so high? Like, come ON! He’s one of the most underrated characters in the franchise!

Hajime Hinata 3rd best protag for me (yes I’m counting Kaede shut up), but I still love his arc. 

Kiyotaka Ishimaru He was my fave from the first game for a while, but the Kiyondo stuff kinda brought him down for me. And ngl, at times it feels like people only judge him based on his friendship with Mondo. I still love him though.

Mondo Owada Chapter 2. Need I say more. He’s a pretty cool character outside of that, too.

Komaru Naegi Just copy-paste my reason for Ryoma, it’s practically the same.

Nagisa Shingetsu Best Warrior of Hope. Hands down. I will die on this hill.

Kotoko Utsugi Despite being beaten out by Nagisa, I still adore her. She deserves the best.

B tier

Maki Harukawa Okay don’t get me wrong, I like her as a character, but the main problem I had was that her crush on Kaito kinda came out of left field for me. Like, she was a stoic unfeeling assassin and she suddenly fell head over heels for some astronaut that knocked on her door a few times. It feels pretty rushed (though knowing Tsumugi it probably was) and kinda brings her down a few pegs for me.

Korekiyo Shinguji “Why is he ranked so high!? He’s the freaky incest guy-” SHUT UP. Yes, his character was absolutely obliterated by the incest twist, but outside of that he is actually a pretty compelling character. (also if you look into his writing it’s pretty heavily implied that his sister used and abused him so judging him based on the incest thing alone is kinda odd ngl)

Ibuki Mioda She’s pretty fun. I’m not as head-over-heels for her as other people, but she’s pretty fun.

Celestia Ludenberg See, Ouma stans? THIS is how you do a compelling liar character!

Peko Pekoyama Please don’t kill me. It’s just that outside of Fuyuhiko she kinda felt......Eh? Like don’t get me wrong, I like her, but something always felt missing for me.

Nagito Komaeda My favourite antag didn’t even make A tier whoops- Yeah, Nagito is the best rival for me, but I’m not as head-over-heels for him as the rest of the fandom is.

Leon Kuwata PLAY HIS FREE TIME EVENTS.

Kiibo The “that’s robophobic!” joke kinda got old after the billionth time, but other than that he’s fun.

Aoi Asahina Her development is cool, but I don’t really have much to say on her honestly.

Sonia Nevermind Same reason as Aoi, but her relationship with Gundham is pretty cute.

Jataro Kemuri This kid deserves better and needs protection. ...I don’t have much other than that, though.

Monaca Towa This is gonna be controversial, but Monaca is the best villain of the franchise for me. Sure, she’s far from being one of my favourite characters, but she’s menacing and enough of a threat to be a great antagonist.

C tier

Kyoko Kirigiri Please don’t kill me. Like...She’s okay, but for a while I found her kinda......Dull? Idk what to say here.

Makoto Naegi He’s alright, but he’s the weakest protagonist for me.

Tsumugi Shirogane I think people are gonna agree with me the most on this. She’s a decent villain, but the "plainy plainy plain” stuff got REALLY old. (which is partially why I rewrote her entirely in DFTH oops) She’s better than Junko by a long shot, so at least she has that.

Kirumi Tojo She was okay until the nonsensical prime minister twist. Seriously, I detest that twist.

Angie Yonaga ...I don’t really have much to say on her. Like the Atua stuff got pretty old and I found her kinda annoying, but she has enough to put her above the characters I don’t like.

Mahiru Koizumi She kinda felt like a better Tenko, but...Uh...

Teruteru Hanamura Yeah, I don’t outright dislike Teruteru. Shocking, I know. His backstory and the stuff with his mom is charming enough, but the perverted stuff still kinda icks me out. It’s not as bad as Miu’s, though.

Genocider Syo She’s more interesting than Toko, but still not really that much there other than “serial killer that somehow got accepted into this academy but don’t think about that look how quirky she is!!”

Tenko Chabashira Similar to Angie. But the way she drooled over and chased after Himiko was kinda eeeh for me. Not as bad as Souda though, thank god

D tier

Byakuya Togami God, he’s such an asshole. Sure his development and the stuff he does is interesting, but GOD HE’S SUCH AN ASSHOLE.

Akane Owari She’s the most “why the hell are you still here” out of the survivors for me. Like, I don’t outright hate her, but a lot of the time it kinda feels to me like she’s only there for fanservice. (seriously, in one of her sprites she’s literally flashing you. Do I need to say anything else?)

Himiko Yumeno Yeah, she’s also pretty weak for me. Her development post chapter 3 was okay I guess, but it kinda felt too little too late.

Toko Fukawa Ugh. Sure, I don’t really like Togami, but the way she drools over him is gross. Sure she’s somewhat redeemed by her development in UDG, but other than that she doesn’t really offer much.

Yasuhiro Hagakure Didn’t really felt like he offered much other than “blatant comic relief who’s probably a stoner”.

Masaru Daimon The weakest out of the Warriors of Hope by a long shot. Sure, his backstory’s pretty sad, but his personality kinda grated on me, ngl.

Kokichi Ouma PLEASE DON’T KILL ME. Like, everyone hails him as the best written character of the series, but if you look closer into his writing it’s actually pretty bad. Not to mention the stans constantly excusing his actions because “uwu liar boy who’s gay for Shuichi” REALLY brings him down.

E tier

Kazuichi Souda He’s literally all the things people hate about Teruteru, but the fandom barely calls him out for it! Hooray!

Miu Iruma She’s basically just there for NSFW jokes. Need I say more. Also, why is no-one else talking about how problematic the maintenance scene was?

Nekomaru Nidai He’s basically just there for shit jokes. And that really got old for me.

Sayaka Maizono OKAY PLEASE PUT YOUR PITCHFORKS DOWN AND HEAR ME OUT! Look, I’m not gonna deny she was kinda cute, but what she pulled in chapter 1 was honestly really fucking snakey. “But she didn’t know about the class trial stuff!” So what? She was willing to use practically the only person in the academy she was close to as a fall guy so she could get away with murder and didn’t even bat an eye! Even if the trial stuff didn’t happen and she DID get away with killing Leon, did she really think everyone would be okay with it? Hell, did she even CONSIDER how Makoto felt!? Sayaka is a fucking snake! She literally USED Makoto!!! WHY IS NO-ONE CALLING HER OUT!?!?

F tier

Junko Enoshima ...Do I even need to explain this.

Mikan Tsumiki I really didn’t like her, even BEFORE chapter 3. Yeah, I said it. She kinda got on my nerves and the fact that they were playing her up for fanservice despite her backstory was really gross, and chapter 3 just made everything so much worse. Like, her getting her memories back and killing someone could’ve worked, JUST MAKE HER PLAN MAKE SENSE!

Hiyoko Saionji She’s just a fucking bully. Do I really need to elaborate?

Hifumi Yamada ...Again. Do I REALLY NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS!?

Legit I have a new one every time I do a full reread. Sequentially: Cyclonus, Chromedome, Brainstorm, Megatron, Ratchet, Ultra Magnus. If I have to choose it’s CD all the way. Integral part of the plot even when he’s not technically the focus, a living ghost on a ship of dead men walking, a Byronic hero, a serial monogamist, more than anything a character who represents what everyone is running away from. He will always have a failure of conscience and he will always cause irreparable harm to somebody. Single-handedly caused most of the ship fatalities.

Okay there are like 20 cast members and they’re all millions-of-years-old aliens whose sins defy comprehension. It’s Ultra “Minimus Ambus” Magnus.

Megatron—yes he’s the central plot point of ⅔ of the comic but HEAR me out. Everyone talks about him like he’s some thief of screen time from their fav (Drift, Rodimus) or some point-distorting plot tumor. This is wrong. He’s THE central character and THE most impactful story in the whole comic. The thesis of MTMTE/LL is: what do you do when you’ve gotten everything you ever wanted? Megatron IS the war more than Optimus because he started it in the first place. What was he fighting for? What is left to fight for? How can he be allowed to live with what he’s done? Why should he? The exploration of Megatron’s character and his politics through Shadowplay, Elegant Chaos, Dissolution, and the oneshots forms the backbone of the series even when he’s not on screen! He takes over the entire series and he deserves it. Any amount of appreciation below the maximum is underappreciation.

Ironically this comic is all about James Roberts’ Glup Shittoes from other series. I’d have to say Impactor (major character in a different series but a ghost in MTMTE) as the anti-Megs more than Mags or OP ever were. Or, Quark for being constantly misinterpreted and being a genuinely very compelling portrait of your Average Citizen. From all his comments he’s…not a revolutionary, but he’s hyperaware of the oppressive structure he lives in and he is very aware of what happens to people who move outside of it. His response is to pass under the radar, never speak up, stay firmly within the structure, and that makes him interesting because he’s not just a shill. He’s a survivor.

Megatron and Chromedome are controversial and pathetic respectively. Also Ratchet. It’s a popular opinion to like Ratchet but think he’s overly cruel about belief and undeservedly right. Again, wrong, he’s absolutely right in every sense. He should have been proved right, because he was. Drift was using his (genuine) belief as a way of getting out of tough questions. Ratchet was both right in letter and spirit. Doesn’t matter that Drift was a genuine convert because he was still lying about the rest of it.

ahhh omg!! thank you so much!! i'm so bad at remembering to bookmark my fics but let me think -- i love komodobit's assimilation and cuckoo and nest -- both are short but impeccable character studies, in my opinion!

unfortunately rageprufrock's the girlfriend experience IS the og sadieservice fic so that's gotta go on here it always makes me laugh ... another fic that always makes me laugh is saltyfeathers' put up your dukes (deeply horny homoeroticism of fighting). OH deeply underrated comedic fic in modern era spn fan-age is broadway musical by griftings! canticles written by 2street2car is a season 4 era fic that was written very recently and makes me insane perfect dean and cas voices and really makes you ache with it!

where the weeds take root by deathbanjo (a writer i love!) is just my absolute favorite post-canon settling down with a house and chickens and the entire hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy series to read. aeli_kindara's first date series is another one that gets even MY cold dead heart to open and i love their cas pov in teaching poetry to fish which spans the entire canon of the show and cas' life before hand and really beautifully integrates poetry with the story!

two format breaking fics i really loved were renrub's r/supernatural (dean's on reddit. VERY funny) and To Boldly Go (dean writes star trek fic fic as i like to call it -- you can even see me larping as one of dean's regular commenters in some of the chapters haha!)

also of course i have to give nepotism shoutouts to the goldenrod revisions by aethylas (PERFECT re-write of 15x19 and continuation of the show), a short history of dean and tentacles by casisms (sadieservice at its finest. impeccable character study) and everything that dies (one day comes back) by gayfranzkafka (supernatural is a story about stories) and looking like a true survivor (feeling like a little kid) by courfeyrac (lovely if bumpy post canon tfw + friends and family build a bear trip)

i can be really picky when it comes to fic so i feel like this list is a bit short (and i know for a FACT i'm totally blanking on and forgetting some INCREDIBLE fics that i've loved because i'm very forgetful and also NOT organized about my fic reading) but @katebushstandean DID create this INSANE epic and organized spreadsheet of all our fic recs if you want like HUNDREDS of fic recs you can check that out! Quiet Killer S/O

Ace: He just melts at the affection his partner gives to him, especially when they surprise him in a trial with a shy hug at the end of the match. They'll do that a lot, just pull him aside and tell him how well he did or something they were impressed about since Ace is so full of surprises that they don't expect. Sometimes, they'll sit together in the main building and relax even with the floor crumbling beneath their feet. They know they'll meet as soon as they're back at their respective camps, so they stay in each other's arms until the very last second.

Back at the camp, Ace might go looking for his partner, or they'll go looking for him, and they'll find each other in the middle somewhere. He'll be tightly embraced and kissed on the shoulder, the neck, the cheek, anywhere they can manage to sneak one in. Without the time constraint, they're free to keep Ace all for themself for as long as the Entity will let them, and Ace will gladly be kept right there.

Around the other survivors and killers, his partner will silently go for a pinky-hold and shuffle around next to him just so they feel close to him. They like being by his side; he's a comfortable presence.

Adam: He's rather quiet as his partner is, so they rarely need words to get their affection across. Often, his partner will take it easy on him in trials and work together with him to satisfy the Entity even when they don't want to play her evil game. When they do, Adam is unaffected by his partner slashing him back to the campfire; he knows that when they get back, they'll come see him and hold him tight, rubbing the spot their weapon pierced through even though there's no wound. Adam assures them that there's no reason to feel bad about it, that he enjoys his time with them no matter what, but their sullen eyes tell him that it's not so easy to forget.

He'll kiss their hand and insist that he hold them just as securely so they're sure he's okay and still love them after that. Adam will return their affection for a long time with snuggles and kisses and sweet words that fill them with confidence when they wake up. He's gentle with his affirmations that if there's anybody he wants to sacrifice him, it's his partner, and they'll laugh and shake their head and hide their face in his chest.

Élodie: She knows when her partner is looking at her from across the trial ground, bashfully admiring her and all the hard work she does. It makes her nervous—a good kind of nervous—to know they're keeping a close eye on her, and the comfort that washes over her the closer they get is always nice to feel. They'll walk up next to her and watch her repair the generator, then take her hand afterwards and walk around with her while she completes various objectives. The other survivors are grateful that they become a whole other person entirely around Élodie; their ruthlessness most of the time does not go unnoticed.

She'll always accept a kiss or many kisses once the trial is coming to a close and plan to find her partner once it's all over. When she does, they'll be waiting with an assortment of laurel flowers and and primroses. She'll blush a little and accept them gratefully, knowing they'll be equally useful to offer to the Entity as they will be pretty behind her ear. She and her partner may even walk around some more and craft wreaths for them from sticks and leaves—and bones, but they'll deal with those themself.

I’m just sitting here thinking about my girl literally running an entire army and fighting to survive in her own home and Winning!! At everything!! Like she is actually so strong, smart, formidable and powerful. She literally out here being gifted with no actual gift... a true underrated goddess 😌✨

Like can you imagine how much WORK it takes to run an entire army in a Vampire War?? A successful army at that? And to SURVIVE it as long as she did and still KICK IT to this day!!?!?

Not only did she have to recruit members but she had to train them and teach them how to move, she had to build strength and brains and even learn a thing or two herself, she had to be responsible for every mistake, which can have grave consequences, she had to watch out for enemies trying to invade, she had to plan every move, she had to be able to predict her enemies moves as well, while making herself unpredictable, she had get into their heads, watch/spy on them, play with them, trick them and she had to be right about it, she had to know what’s going to happen and be prepared for it, she had to keep up with what she already has and keep her people in line, she had to make escape plans should anything go wrong or get out of hand, she had make advancement plans should things go right, she even had to make/change plans last minute should something happen outta nowhere. She had to assess the situation when fighting and know when to stand your ground or retreat, she has to watch people’s emotions and actions lest they try to betray her, she had to secure her perimeters to make sure no one is thinking of trying to take over her home again. She had to do all of that and more while moving silently and smoothly to stay under the Volturi’s radar thus shielding herself from more danger.

She had to think, plan, fight, predict, escape, calculate, direct, watch and asses everything around her. Because she’s dealing with literal vampires. Vampires who are bigger than her, stronger than her, gifted vampires, older vampires, etc.. and has been doing so for all her vampire life, and has learned from growing up and living in that environment, and she’s obviously doing it all right considering she’s still alive and kicking to this day.

Even after experiencing so much pain and trauma and losing everyone she ever loved, she’s still out here doing her best and living her life with no restrictions the only way she knows how and making the most of the cards she was dealt. I like to think of what a friend of mine @fuckmeyer said, about María that resonated so much with me: “María, an indigenous Mexican, represents indigenous struggle against white colonizers and did her best to take back control of the land.” her native home that was stolen from her. She was a girl who was once powerless and lost everything and overcame it all. And to top it all off she’s not only gorgeous but very charming based on her descriptions in the books and the movies. I love how she’s always smiling, and is described as having a “soft musical voice, it’s such a cute detail. She’s proof that you can run an army and look good while doing it.

She has literally done all of that and did it Right! All while being a barely 5 foot, adorable looking, soft voiced, tiny, 19 year old girl, with no discernible gift. She was out here doing what some gifted people be doing, without one, and now she basically runs and owns part of Mexico. Miss mamas was in her BAG and making MOVES!! She’s so strong and capable and full of so much potential. She’s the epitome of a survivor with infinity iQ levels. 😩👌🏽✨

Not only did she deserve better but she deserves her own book. Because there’s so much about her we don’t know and I’d love to see it. She’s just one of those women you can’t break.
