• Monika thinks you're adorable and she tells you that a few times. Seeing your flustered reaction makes you even cuter!

• She compliments your writing whenever you share it with her. She enjoys talking about your writing style and generally giving you tips or advice. Of course, Monika hopes you'll give your opinion on her writing as well!

• Each time you decide to gift her something, doing the whole tsundere - it's not like I like you! - thing, Monika thanks you for the present. Also teases you a bit.

• She doesn't go overboard with the teasing. But just enough to see your reaction.

• It had your name written on it, yes. But on the other side of it, the words: 'my muse' were displayed.

• At first, Yuri didn't really get along with you. I mean, you know her relationship with Natsuki, right?

• What made you and Yuri (eventually) get along, was literature. Even if you enjoyed different genres or themes and topics, you could still discuss them with each other. You tell her things about fashion, she tells you about horror. And you can talk about nature together ^^

• She always looks forward to hearing your opinion on books. Especially ones that you enjoyed, it gives her a bit of an insight on your preferences regarding story, characters, setting etc. So that when she writes poems they may include those particular things.

• She's kind of shy, or rather nervous. So, some times she wasn't sure whether you enjoyed spending time with her. Although that could've also been caused by her not so high self esteem.

• The first time you give her something, she is surprised and slightly caught off guard. A presented? For her? From you?

• And whatever you gave her, she enjoys it. Give her something as simple as a pen and she'll treasure it. Give her something expensive and she'll be at a loss for words.

• Yuri is very shy when receiving your present and she's very shy about giving you presents.

• Speaking of which, the presents you receive from Yuri are more often than not, books. Or book recommendations.

• That doesn't mean it's the only thing she gives you. Several times you've been given stationary supplies.

• One particular time, she showed you a beautiful fountain pen. Yuri explained that it was the pen she used for most of her writing. How it would bring her so many ideas and so much inspiration. And then, she gave it to you. Her most important pice of writing equipment, given to her most important person.

• A tsundere and another tsundere. How will this turn out?

• ...Maybe not so well.

• So, so you try to give Nat a gift, only for her to get all confused, because she too wanted to give you something. I mean, not wanted! No no, it's not like she-

• See, this creates a messy situation.

• As for what she would gift you with: cupcakes, manga and cute hairpins.

• Cupcakes, because she enjoyed making them and had some left over! I swear, they weren't made just for you or anything...

• Manga, which she read and recommends to you. Books she thought you would enjoy and she got them, only because of that idea.

• Hairpins. They're just cute. They're cute, she's cute, you're cute.

• Don't make a comment noticing how the cupcakes you received were different from the ones the girls got, how the manga was unopened, wrapped in a pastel packaging as a present, how the hairpins you have been gifted are the same ones Natsuki is wearing right now.

• ! Sayori 100% thinks you're cute! Yes, she does actually tell you that, several times in fact! Your tsundere-ish reactions make her giggle, she thinks it's cute!

• Sayori really enjoys walking with you. Whether it's to school, the park, or anywhere else, you can be sure she'll be there to accompany you! And if you let her, you two can walk hand in hand.

• She gets super excited when you give her something and she remembers to also get you something in return! Well, tries to remember.

• She especially enjoys when you give her something edible, like cookies. As the lovely pink haired girl, sometimes overlseeps and forgets or doesn't have time to eat breakfast, she really does appreciate it! When at first it was only a coincidence, later on you unintentionally started making more treats for her. Or you can always just share them!

• Sayori's presents are a bit... Random? They're not exactly following any pattern or theme or interest. It's just things Sayori found neat and thought you would enjoy. A plushie, stick it notes, a bracelet.

• With various colors, textures, all different from each other. Yet they still had that nice feeling. The feeling that it was from someone you cared for, and someone who cared for you.

I’m probably use this blog for writing, talking about said fandoms, obsessively thinking about my ocs for each said fandom, and making very politically(/j) incorrect analysis about characters. And, more! I’m sorry this is so long, really just ask me abt anything and it’ll eventually happen.

Last thing: I might post about my own stories that are… painfully unfinished, so here’s a brief intro about each (they’re all heavily inspired by my respective fandoms, we don’t talk abt that):

*Insert Dramatic Title* (IDT): A robot by the name of Edis is asked to save humanity from a prophecy stating that, from five years from now, the world will end.

Slaughterhouse (SH): A pair of twins live in a “Haven Town” where there outside world was shrouded into an apocalypse. They learn how to truly survive in such a restrictive environment and find out the subtle corruption of their system.

‘Vest of the ‘Usual (VOU): A young boy has unusual abilities that leads him to work in the government, which depicts him having to do the unthinkable: go to school. And, do his job, that too.

Act I (A1): Olesia Lexina has had one dream all her life: protect humanity from the evil that is godlyhood! This follows her journey through the ideal of becoming on of the top members of the “Guardians of Humanity”.

Project: New World (P:NW): The government has allowed a project and organization by the name of “New World” to attempt to “purify humanity of all of its wrongdoings” and it has taken the world by storm; unfortunately, Chara has absolutely no interest in any of it.

The Eight Tragedies (T8T): An Angel has come to earth to ultimately destroy everyone on it, in which a humanities major named Reminiscence gives the world (her two friends) a chance to fix their problems before it can do so—by going into the past eight times to fix mistakes that should’ve never happened.

Majic Girl: BOOM ★ (MG:★): this one is something I’ve been meaning to get motivation to work on properly. A young freshman girl watches her whole world turn upside down (close to literally) to as some sort of eldritch horror resurfaces the earth! And she is one of the few people making the attempt to kill it.

$1 Supermarket ($1): The economy as we know it had crashed after inflation has risen way too high to the point even the upper class finds it hard to buy anything. Thus, a brand new chain store by the name of $1 Supermarket has arisen! Where everything is exactly $1! And there’s like, a bunch of monsters everywhere, but that’s besides the point.

Magical Initiative: Walpurgisnacht trailer

A trailer for the fourth (but not the last) Magical Initiative movie, inspired by the 1st Endgame trailer.

(Open on a computer screen displaying a video ready to play, while somber music can be heard in the background. The cursor hits the play icon, and the video starts, the footage displaying Oriko Mikuni in her Puella Magi garb.)

Oriko: Is this thing on?

(She pauses.)

Oriko: Hello there. My name is Oriko Mikuni. If you’re hearing this, it means I am now dead.

(Shot of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask greeting the Starlights and Sailor Kinmoku [Princess Kakyuu]. Luna and Artemis stand in human form nearby.)

Oriko (v/o): But I have foreseen much of what is to come after I am gone.

(Shot of Aguri Madoka comforting Yuma Chitose. They are joined by Kyoko, who is carrying a bag of steaming hot buns. Shots of the Sailor Senshi, Symphogear squad, Smile Cures, and Mew Mews interacting with the purified Gertrud, HN Elly, Elsa Maria, and Patricia, respectively.)

Yuna (v/o): So much was lost because of their lies.

(Shot of Vita and Signum sparring with Kyoya and Miyuki Takamachi. Despite being new to Mid-Childan magic, Nanoha’s siblings are proving surprisingly adept.)

Mami (v/o): But at the same time, for all they stole away...

(Cut to Mami, Kyoko, and Nagisa, all possessing traits of their witch forms, speaking to a group of other purified Eldritch witches. Among them is Carola, AKA Kazumi Subaru, who is passing out tea and strawberry tarts to the others.)

Homura (v/o): ...they may have given us the key to destroying them.

(Shot of the Go Princess Cures face to face with Mai Tokiha, Mikoto Minagi, and Natsuki Kuga. After a moment, Cure Flora and Mai take each other’s hands, all present wearing looks of grim determination.)

Cure White (v/o): This war isn’t over yet.

Nanoha (v/o): Is this a recording of some kind?

Alicia: Listen, I’m here with some other girls.

(The camera zooms out slightly to reveal Serena Cadenzavna Eve, the Splash Star Cures, and the Yes 5 Cures, all in civilian garb.)

Alicia: They say they might be able to help.

Fate (v/o): No...it’s the front door!

The official website for The 2019 TV anime of Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket manga has announced a new anime in 2022 titled Kyо̄ko to Katsuya no Monogatari (Kyо̄ko and Katsuya's Story). The anime will center on the backstory of Tohru's parents Kyо̄ko and Katsuya. The announcement did not specify the format or length of the anime. In addition, the manga is inspiring a stage play in 2022.

Happy Birthday Gentaro! 🎉

Leading up to April 1st, a pair of Division leaders find them in a rather humorous mishap. However, due to a certain someone’s desire for inspiration, all six members are brought into the chaos. Meanwhile, the amused author looks on.

Kosuke: Yumeno-sensei? This is Furuhata Kosuke, you wanted to meet with me about a book cover?

Gentaro: Apologies, you seem to have the wrong person you see, for I am merely a poorly paid cosplayer. Meant to promote the recent book of a different author, titled “Tales of Genji.”

Kosuke: Yumeno-sensei, that is a book most know already know by name. Regardless, do you have any ideas for how you’d like for your cover to look?

Gentaro: I have no preference, though I would prefer it to an extravagant and bright one to catch eyes on the selves as it is different from my usual stories. A stand out story must have a stand out cover after all.

Kosuke: R-right. So may I see the overview to get an idea?

Gentaro: I am not yet done with that actually. Though I may give it to you in a few days. The first of April perhaps?

Kosuke: Yes. That works.

Gentaro: Also, about that cover.

Kosuke: Yes?

Gentaro: That was a lie. A simple design will do.

Kosuke: A-Ah. I see. . .

Gentaro: I will be off then. do enjoy the cake.

Kosuke: Wait what?!

Sever: Here you go sir. This was paid in advance.

[Door closes]

Gentaro: Now then, to see what unfolds.

Gentaro’s story: A young lady is to meet with her friend at a cafe when a stranger takes a seat beside her. He pretends to be her boyfriend as he claims he is being followed by numerous admirers. Along the way, they bond and find they went to the same school. Her friends however do not like him and in the end they must separate. Along the way, there are hints as to something must be off. Turns out, the man was indeed a highschool classmate whom she had a rush with, but one who was ostracized by her friends and moved away. Her visit to the cafe is for the last place she saw him, where he rejected her before he left.

Gentaro: Such an tragic tale, to feel the stings of love is truly a misfortune thing—

Emiko: There you are! Yumeno-sama! ~ ♡

Gentaro: Speaking of.

Gentaro: I know not of this Yumeno you speak of young lady. I am merely a poor, homeless young man who has spent the very last sum of his money to buy these outdated clothes and some bitter coffee.

Gentaro: Do you really not have anything better to do than disturb the unfortunate?

Emiko: Huh? Homeless? But you’re said-ooooh! You’re lying right? Sorry Yumeno-sama but cha can’t fool me! ~ ☆

Emiko: So you found me ‘cause Ramuda needed a favor right? Where is he? Is he hiding?

Gentaro: About that, Ramuda’s not here, that was a lie. I just said that to get you here. For an informant you’re not very cautious are you?

Emiko: Hey! I can be cautious! You just don’t seem suspicious. But why do you need me Yumeno-sama? Doooo you want me to find someone?

Gentaro: You’re close but not quite. I actually need you to accompany someone for awhile. They’re waiting inside for you right now. Oh and take this with you, [hands slip of paper] the table number is on the back. But do not open it until you meet him.

Emiko: An escort job? I don’t think I’ve done that before, but it sounds like fun. Okay, you can leave it to me! Bye bye Yumeno-sama! ~ ♡

[walks inside the cafe as Gentaro leaves]

Emiko: Whooooa~ It feels really homey in here, so cute!

Emiko: Hmmmm, table #6. I wonder what this guy is li—

Kosuke: ? ? ?

Emiko: ? ? ?

Emiko: Kosuke! [glomps him] Hello! What’s up! What’cha eating? Is it yummy? Can I have some!

Kosuke: Ah! Emiko-san! Um, yes, this is very good, and you can certainly have some if you’d like. [slides over plate]

Emiko: Really? Thank you! ~ ♡

Kosuke: Why are you here by the way? Do you have business with Ramuda-san?

Emiko: Well I actually owe Ramuda a favor, but I guess Yumeno-sama’s the one giving me a job today. What about you?

Kosuke: Ah! I had a meeting with Yumeno-sensei about a book cover of his. It seems that Ramuda-san recommended me to him.

Emiko: Cool cool! ~ ☆ Then that makes this way easier, ‘cause you’re actually my assignment today. Yumeno-sama said I have to escort you somewhere.

Kosuke: Escort. . .me? To where?

Natsuki: I don’t get why you had to drag me along with you.

Haruto: Because an unknown number told me about where Ko-chan was and he might have a stalker.

Natsuki: This makes us the stalkers you numbnut.

Haruto: Dude, looks like he’s on a date with that cutesy Harajuku leader girl. . .

Natsuki: What?!

Seiichi: Look I’m sure she’s fine. Emiko’s a tough girl, she can handle herself.

Hiroshi: That much is clear. But she’s not one to run off with a client without blabbing about it first. Plus whoever called us here clearly has ulterior motive, it could be them.

Seiichi: They did sound pretty sketchy, but it’s nothing we haven’t dealt with befo—

Seiichi: Dude, look at that window. That cafe over there!

Hiroshi: Yes, it’s just a cafe. What’s so special about—Is that her? With, Akihabara’s leader??

Seiichi: Wait is she on a date?!

[they opened up Gentaro’s paper in suprise]

Emiko: . . .

Kosuke: . . .

Kosuke: . . . “Have an enjoyable date?”. . . Oh. . . This was a setup. . . What do we do?! I mean- you’re getting paid for this and I don’t want to be the reason you don’t get money but- why?! You’re like a sister!

Emiko: Eeeeeh?! A date! Like a date date! But you’re like my big brother! I don’t want you to have to pay for this. 💦 Plus I’ve never been on a date before! Ramuda are you in on this too?!

Kosuke: Ahhhhhhh. . . this is really bad! What do we do?! Does just hanging out here count?!

Emiko: I-I don’t know! Maybe! *turns beet red* U-umm. . . . . . . . . *goes quiet & looks down*

Kosuke: I’m not really the type to use swear words, but. . .

Haruto: Hey, Natsu. I think Kosuke’s actually flirting with her. She’s blushing like crazy. (whistles) who knew Ko-chan could do such a thing.

Natsuki: You must be seeing things, besides, finish your food. We need to go, I don’t have all day.

Seiichi: Are they actually flirting?? I don’t think I’ve ever seen her that embarrassed.

Hiroshi: Hmph, together or not that fiend better not try anything.

Seiichi: Well, if this is really the client then maybe we should stay out of it.

Hiroshi: *sighs* I suppose you’re right, but I still want to know about that number—. . . Don’t look now, but do try to hold your temper.

Seiichi: Oi what temper! What are you looking at anyways? Huh? . . . It’s the other guys from Akihabara!

Hiroshi: I thought I told you to hold your temper. 💦 Now you’ve given us away.

Natsuki: Oh look, we’re just a squad of stalkers.

Haruto: Natsu! Don’t call us that!

Seiichi: He he he, stalker squad. Not bad coming from you losers!

Hiroshi: Well that’s one way to start things off. If I may add, what exactly are you two doing here.

Natsuki: My little brother got a text telling him where Kosuke was with a photo. He got scared and came over. Judging from things though, we were all just chess pieces for someone’s amusement.

Haruto: Yeah! It was a creepy message tho!

Natsuki: And I was dragged along, though I believe that if a certain someone thought things through, he could have reasoned that Kosuke is more than capable of defending himself.

Hiroshi: Hmm. Unfortunately, I’ll have to agree with you. We got a call not too long ago from an unknown saying Emiko was helping a friend. They too sent us a picture of where she was, at this very location.

Seiichi: So does that mean someone’s stalking them both? More importantly, are they really dating?!

Hiroshi: I can hardly see that as more important, but it seems we have two mysteries to solve.

Natsuki: That implies us four working together.

Haruto: Awww! Give em a little chance!

Natsuki: Don’t you dare go a tirade about going with the flow and disregarding everything else.

Haruto: I don’t do that! Much. . .

Seiichi: *whispers* Oh great, this must be my lucky day.

Hiroshi: Enough Seiichi, it appears we have no choice. However, do try to keep your brother on a short leash, boy.

Natsuki: Same goes for you old man, except this time it’s your ward.

Haruto: Geeze Natsu, you’re real riled up.

Natsuki: Oh. I’m sorry, not my fault the geezer’s insufferable.

Hiroshi: Right back at you.

Seiichi: Tch. You guys are one to talk! Especially that barking dog of yours!

Natsuki: If you want to lump us together then either stop calling me a child, or call yourself one.

Haruto: Rude! I ain’t a dog! Though they are really nice and fun to play with. . . so. . .

Hiroshi: So the little mocking bird finally speaks. Truly an incredible sight.

Seiichi: Pfffft ha ha ha! Are you really that dumb! You know I’m trashing ya right!

Natsuki: Last time I checked, it’s not me who’s constantly stuck in rut. And also, next time, try to choose a bird species that wasn’t helpful in Darwin’s theory of evolution hm?

Haruto: Hey! Aren’t you a bit too young to go trash talking everyone? Like I dunno, wait for like a competition of somethin’ I guess. Throwing hands isn’t the only way to solve your problems kid.

[cafe doors burst open]

Emiko: Wait wait please don’t fight! What’s going on out here!

Kosuke: This is in public! Please be careful!

Alley Catz: ! ! !

DayBreakers: ! ! !

Emiko: *tearing up* Why are you guys fighting about noooooow! This is embarrassing! ~

Seiichi: Not this again! 😰 P-Please don’t cry.

Hiroshi: Y-Yes, forgive the intrusion m’lady.

Kosuke: I certainly look forward to your excuse as to why you’re practically fighting on the streets.

Natsuki: . . . Haruto

Haruto: u-um... I uhh, was scared?

Emiko: What have I told you guys about starting fights? I can tell you started it too, bullies. Bleeeeeh! *sticks out tongue*

Kosuke: How does one. . .nevermind. Scared for what.

Haruto: Your safety duh! Some creep sent a pic of you and your location. And now we come to see you on a date!

Hiroshi: Right, we’re here for that very same reason. Someone called us claiming they knew where you were and we thought you might be in danger.

Seiichi: I knew you were fine but we didn’t know you were on a date with the beanpole!

Kosuke: Wait! No! It’s not a date! I was here on business!

Natsuki: Stop letting him call you a beanpole first.

Emiko: It is not a date! At least not a real one . . . *blushes* Look I’ll explain later ok! Plus, Kosuke’s not a beanpole, he’s cute just the way he is Seiichi!

Seiichi: That’s not what I meant. 💦

Kosuke: Oh! I don’t find anything offensive in that! It’s just a nickname!

Natsuki: Where’s your pride and self presevation?

Haruto: I think we all know where that is Natsu.

Natsuki + Haruto: Nonexistent.

Kosue: *blushes* (mumbles) I’m not that bad about it. . .

Top 10 male characters in fiction

- The Ninth Doctor (Doctor Who - Russell T. Davies)

His tenure as the Doctor might have been short but Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor is one of my favourite characters of all time. There is such range and depth to his emotions, a repressed anger coupled with the unrelenting fear of the same mistakes being repeated again... but also a softer, more mischevious side, hungry for more discoveries. He is both ancient and also so terribly human.

- Yuki Soma (Fruits Basket - Natsuki Takaya)

Yuki is a character who slowly but steadily grew on me. I don’t think I truly understood him when I read Furuba as a young teen for the first time. But to see his struggles, the way he grew into himself and faced the future as a young adult with the help of Tohru, some of his relatives and the friends he makes along the way... made him incredibly endearing. Of all the characters in this list, he’s the one I relate to the most.

- Lee Everett (The Walking Dead Game - Telltale Games, lead writers: Sean Vanaman, Jake Rodkin)

The trick with Lee is that since he’s the main playable character of this series, his personality can change quite a bit according to the player’s choices, but he’s always well-rounded. My Lee always tried to stay as diplomatic as he could and understand all sides, but also accepted to use violence when needed. His attachment to little Clem and the depths he goes to to protect her amaze me still. I still have goosebumps thinking about the cliffhangers of episodes 4 and 5...

- William Parry (His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman)

Will... ugh, I love him so much. A young teen forced by life’s circumstances to behave like an adult. His strength of mind has been an inspiration to me. At the same time, I kept wishing he could be relieved of the burden he had to carry. I was as devastated as he was by the end of the series, and if Pullman actually gave us the little sequel he promised so I could see him again as an adult, I would die happily.

- Eren Jäger (Shingeki no Kyojin - Hajime Isayama)

The most recent addition to a list of old faves. I started reading SnK in 2020, and Eren made quite an impression on me. The way he’s been written, as a character who doesn’t change in his core but whose methods and ways of seeing the world around him evolve (while the mysteries of the plot unravel both for the characters and the readers) is just masterful. There are so many layers and complexities to Eren, and I hope he gets the satisfying ending a character of this calibre deserves.

- Subaru Sumeragi (Tokyo Babylon / X/1999 - CLAMP)

Sigh... Subaru is probably the OG “son” character for me, and the kindest character in this list. I wish I could protect him from all the terrible things he had to go through. CLAMP really outdid themselves with his portrayal throughout Tokyo Babylon and X/1999, and even if his story is never finished, I think his character arc met a logical ending already. That said, I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him again if they ever decided to finish X one day.

- Prince Zuko (Avatar The Last Airbender - Lead writer: Aaron Ehasz)

By writing this list I realise I really have a type lmao. Anyway, Zuko truly got the golden treatment as far as redemption arcs go. The way he broke the cycle of abuse and hatred he had been subjected to to fight against his fears and for a better future is beautiful. Dante Basco also did an amazing job at making him feel unique and relatable.

- Joe Yabuki (Ashita no Joe - Tetsuya Chiba/Asao Takamori)

Joe and Eren could probably compete for the title of best shonen anti-hero out there x) Joe isn’t... likeable, really. He has a disdain for rules and morality and doesn’t really fight for anything, except the pleasure of fighting itself. He’s impredictable but that’s exactly what makes him a delight to follow as a reader. His story might be tragic in nature, but I don’t think there’s a single page of this manga that should be changed as far as Joe’s portrayal goes.

- Hamlet (Hamlet - William Shakespeare)

(Pictured: David Tennant’s interpretation) Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece... What is there to say that hasn’t already been said, really?

- Raymond Holt (Brooklyn 99 - Dan Goor/Michael Schur)

Andre Braugher combines gravitas and humour perfectly, and elevates every character he interacts with. His portrayal of Ray Holt as an openly gay, black police captain who climbed the ladder against all odds to become a sort of father figure to his coworkers is just delightful.

- Royce Bracket (Transistor - Supergiant Games, lead writer: Greg Kasavin)

I don’t know if Royce really is deserving to be on list, to be quite honest. I think the other members of the “villainous” Camerata, especially Asher and Sybil, are as deserving as him of the honour (well, Sybil is a woman, but still), but he’s such an intriguing character and unusual “boss”. The way he piles mistakes upon mistakes but seeks to understand everything as a mathematician still, is quite fascinating. Amazing voice actor as well.

Honourable mentions: Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist), Gesicht (Pluto), Iroh (Avatar), Reiner Braun, Armin Arlert, Zeke Jäger (Shingeki no Kyojin), Howl (Howl’s Moving Castle), Zagreus, Hades (Hades), Julius Reini (Asher, Tell a Demon), and probably a multitude of others who slipped my mind along the way.

As 37-year-old Satoru Mikami suddenly began to take a spiritual transition from one life to the next, they unwittingly made requests that resulted in their reincarnation as a lowly slime in an RPG-like high-fantasy world. In this new life, they gain new abilities and use their apparent charisma to acquire powerful allies and develop their own nation that unites all species under his guidance.

As far as fantasy world shows go, this rags-to-riches story has a little something for everyone. There are few things as inspiring and necessary in our world as seeing an insignificant slime creature rise up the ranks and unite everybody. Demon Slayer

There are plenty of great anime centered around fighting denizens in the dark, but Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba certainly stands out among them all.

Tanjiro Kamado’s tough but rewarding mountain life was suddenly disrupted when his entire family was mauled by a demon, with his little sister on the verge of becoming one herself. But after showing his potential as a fighter and vowing to protect his sister who still clings tenuously to her humanity, he is recruited to undergo demon slayer training in order to harness his latent abilities and find a way to return his sister to normal.

Ufotable, Inc. is an anime studio renowned for its unparalleled animation, and Demon Slayer is the perfect example of the team’s skill. The show is renowned for its seamless integration of digital effects to generate flowing animation and has previously topped our list as one of the best anime of the 2010s. Since its premiere, Demon Slayer has raked in several Newtype anime awards, and its first opening — “Gurenge” by LiSA — topped Oricon’s digital charts for weeks. Overlord

The only thing more interesting than a fantasy world show is a fantasy world show with a villain as the main protagonist. Enter Overlord.

The massively successful, highly interactive MMO, YGGDRASIL, is about to have its servers shut down after 12 years. Momonga, the skeletal leader of the strongest guild of the game, makes it a point to stay on until the final minutes of service. When the countdown runs out, Momonga’s player finds himself inhabiting the world as his character and still commanding his guild, Ainz Ooal Gown. Taking on the name of his guild, Ainz Ooal Gown begins to expand his rule with an iron fist while trying to find any other players who may also be trapped in the game with him.

Overlord is unafraid to make its protagonist undergo some dark transformations. Despite Ainz’s intentions to create a stir in this new world and unite all species under his rule, he becomes gradually less hesitant to use his immense power to achieve his goals by any means necessary. With its dark overtones and unique protagonist, Overlord truly makes a name for itself among the genre.

Hunter x Hunter

Love the action genre but wish the formula could be tweaked a little bit? The infamous Hunter x Hunter may just have what you’re looking for.

Gon Freecs is a young boy who sets out to become a professional Hunter while searching for his missing father. Along the way, Gon learns how vast and diverse the world is as he meets new companions, fights terrifying monsters, and becomes stronger at every turn. There’s no telling what new adventure or threat awaits Gon and his friends as the world of Hunters opens up wide to them.

Subversion is the name of the game when it comes to this popular and influential series. While there’s plenty of intense action to be had, Hunter x Hunter isn’t afraid to go deep into mafia politics, race relations, and even gender identity. At almost every opportunity, Hunter takes the usual tropes and turns them upside down to tell a story that’s all too raw, emotional, and impossible to look away from.

Garo: Vanishing Line

Jujutsu Kaisen director Sung Hoo Park has plenty of notable works under his belt, including directing The God of High School. But you might be surprised to know that JJK isn’t his first foray into demon-slaying action. He also directed Garo: Vanishing Line.

While searching for her missing older brother, Sophie is led to the metropolis of Russell City where monsters known as Horrors prey on humans in the night. Luckily, she comes under the protection of Sword; as Garo, the strongest Makai Knight, Sword and his crew are tasked with defending the city and eradicating Horrors.

As part of a popular tokusatsu (live-action with heavy special effects) franchise, Garo is known for its modern gothic aesthetic and compelling action. Vanishing Line continues that tradition in spectacular fashion with intense fights and an exhilarating soundtrack, not to mention an intense first opening by Jam Project of One Punch Man fame. From start to finish Vanishing Line never takes its foot off the pedal and is sure to keep you pumped all throughout its high-octane 24-episode ride.

The Rising of the Shield Hero

Fantasy world shows often put their protagonists up on a pedestal, but the eponymous Shield Hero is practically dropped into adversity from the get-go.

Naofumi Iwatani is one of four different high schoolers plucked from their dimensions into a fantasy world in peril. As each of them is armed with different weapons to combat the impending threat, Naofumi draws the short stick by becoming the Shield Hero, who is traditionally marginalized and maligned by their peers. To make matters worse, he is accused of debauchery amongst royalty and shunned by the entire kingdom he was summoned to protect. Broken and disillusioned by this strange new world, the Shield Hero must now climb his way to redemption alongside other unfortunate souls neglected by society.

A Cinderella story in every sense of the word, The Rising of the Shield Hero draws its appeal from its protagonist having to overcome the odds and fight back against the forces that oppose him. While it can be hard to sit through when it comes to raw emotion and some questionable content, this anime has plenty of inspiring moments as marginalized folks work their hardest to become heroes of their own repute.

Attack on Titan

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-

Nothing messes around with the rules of the fantasy world genre quite like Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World.

In typical fantasy world fashion, gamer shut-in Subaru Natsuki is summoned into a medieval fantasy world rife with magic and monsters at every turn. For all intents and purposes, he now lives in a game world, especially whenever he dies and comes back to life sometime before his death like a checkpoint revival. With his newfound power, Subaru attempts to survive in this strange new world and help out his growing band of companions, especially when it comes to Emilia, a young elf who’s in the running to become queen of the Kingdom of Lugunica.

Re:ZERO is rife with powerful drama as Subaru uses grim knowledge of his past lives in order to do good. This darkly compelling fantasy has been praised for its complex world and nuanced characters, and has even accrued many Newtype anime awards in 2016, including best director and best protagonists. If you like the idea of traversing murky corners and tough moral choices, then Re:ZERO might just be your next big obsession.

『I went to the UTA☆PURI exhibition♪』

〜Hikaru//'s Free Writing Vol.#1 〜

Hello, I am Hikaru//. My everyday job is to sing as an artist under the name of my solo-project『H-el-ical//』. However, for this occasion I will be writing a column.

I hope that all of you will be enjoying my column whether you are a long-time fan or a newcomer. My first edition is gonna be a “report”! I'm really excited since it is my first time writing a report in a column like this, I will do my best so it’s fun for all of us. For this report I visited the exhibition 『Uta no☆ Prince-sama♪「Another World 〜WHITE & BLACK〜」』 which is currently held at Tokyo Dome City Gallery AaMo.

『Uta no☆Prince-sama♪』 is a popular franchise that started out as a game and has since been adapted as manga, TV anime and theatrical anime. You are playing an aspiring composer who enters a prestigious performing arts school made up of students who are either vying to become an idol or a music producer. For your project you must team up with another student as an idol-producer team, and if you are successful, you will be able to join their agency after graduation.

I have played the mobile game and watched the anime. The day before going to the exhibition I also watched the BD of the theatrical release 『Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Maji LOVE Kingdom』.

As soon as you enter the venue, this main visual can be found on the right side. You immediately get excited!

Despite knowing that the main cast will change between WHITE SIDE (first half) and BLACK SIDE (second half), it is still special to have all idols together on this visual...!

One cannot help but stare at the image, you really want to take your time and enjoy it but remaining too long in the entrance area will irritate the people entering behind you so let’s continue ahead!

In this fantastic crystal passage, there are photos and profiles of each idol. Passing through this space you will gradually be entering Another World that is awaiting you. The anticipation will have you super excited ♪

Finally enter Another World!

I'm thrilled to visit an exhibition that showcases the worldviews and stories of new songs and allows us to experience what it is like to be in the dressing rooms or on the stage side.

Dive into this new world while listening to the words of your idols!

There are displays left and right. I have no idea where to start ... I think I will start with my bias. So let’s go with the right side first. *laughs*

In this world all kinds of items related to the WHITE SIDE idols are on display. You can get a glimpse of the idol's personality and daily life, your knowledge of your favourite idols will surely expand.

Of course I will also check out the left side.

Here you will find an art board filled with lots of text. Looking at all the words will make you think "Oh, this is a popular dialogue", "Oh, these words touch my heart"! You will inevitably start imagining your favourite idols saying these words.

There is an amazing photo spot in the back! I was a little adventurous and tried dressing up as one of the idols but I guess it’s better to just take a picture dressed as a normal fan *laughs*

Right next to the spot is a miniature world ...Ah, I should have brought one of my plushies with me! ... I missed a great opportunity but it’s not too late for you. So everyone, be sure to bring your own plushies when you come here!!

We continue to the backstage area. First, the waiting room. There are lots of items that the idols would usually use in front of their mirrors, you can see notes and such, it almost seems like they were there just a minute ago.

Then we continue to the stage sleeve. There is a great arrangement of t-shirts for each idol ... ahh, this looks amazing!! I was mesmerised by the arrangement and couldn’t stop looking.

Then!! Their stage drinks!! Water! Someone has actually been drinking from them! *faints* Masato, Ai, and Len took a few sips ... ahh...I can’t take it!! Thank you so much for this!!

Turning to the other side and continuing ahead I discover interviews with the BLACK SIDE idols! Awesome! Such an awesome display! Be sure to check every detail without missing a single word!

Well, it is no exaggeration to say that this is the main event of the day: time to enjoy the video for the new song “WHITE GRAVITY” projected on a big screen. While listening to "WHITE GRAVITY" you can watch your idols in full size on the large screen and enjoy them to the fullest.

Finally, let’s head to the merch corner.

They have a system where you write everything you want on a sheet of paper. I am having a hard time deciding what to buy *laughs* Samples are also displayed before the checkout area! Think about what you want to get as long as necessary, just take your time, let’s all buy the things we love!! To show our gratitude for the franchise!

We have walked through the entire exhibtion. BUT! We have not reached the end of this report yet!

Apparenty every restaurant in Tokyo Dome City has collaboration menus inspired by the idols. So of course I HAD to check them out...That day I decided to go to MLB cafe TOKYO.

I ordered Natsuki's recommended "Shinomiya Farm Collaboration Pizza" and Cecil's recommended "Agna Palace Soup". The green cream soup is perfectly seasoned and delicious with a bit of bread. The Cream cheese x maple dessert pizza has a magical taste that combines sourness, saltiness and sweetness. When you order a collaboration menu, you will get one sticker for each item!

Satisfied after enjoying fun and delicious collaboration menus, my visit to the exhibition 『Uta no☆Prince-sama♪「Another World 〜WHITE & BLACK〜」WHITE SIDE』is finally coming to an end. While my main goal was to get material for my report, I tremendously enjoyed this exhibition *laughs*

There is a lot of attention to detail, you really learn to understand why people love Uta ☆ Puri (Uta no Prince Sama ♪) so much! Of course fans will have a blast visiting this exhibition but I think people who are not too familiar with the work can also have a great time. That’s why I thought, “why not whet your appetite with this report?”

And since WHITE SIDE was so good, I am now super curious about BLACK SIDE with a different cast...! I wanna go. I wonder what the next column will be about…?

I don't know yet, but I'd like to talk about it freely just as the title of my column suggests.

Danganronpa 3. Talent runs in the blood (English version). Episode 1. Blood brothers

(Although I commented earlier that I would upload the episodes in February, I have decided to start today and upload one episode each successive Sunday until I finish with all of them. Thanks for reading! I hope that, although they are a bit long episodes, it will be entertaining and generate a deep despair in your souls)

- HIROYUKI. All my life I have been normal. But it's not something I'm proud of, because I've met many people like me in my life: with dreams, aspirations, worries and the desire to live. Everything was going well, normal, until I arrived at the most famous academy in Japan; its name is: Hope’s Peak Academy, or should I say "its name was"?

They say that as soon as you get there your life changes completely, and I can assure you of that. But in my case it didn't change in the same way as the talented students: they were the ones who would achieve success and fame one day. Unfortunately for me, my life changed for the worse from the very beginning.

Now being normal wasn't the "normal" thing... Ironic, isn't it? Talent, which was supposed to be essential to fix this world, was slowly destroying it. Hmmm... What if it wasn't talent what was causing the chaos that was about to come? What if it was really arrogance and despotism the ones that were responsible The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History?

- HIROYUKI. My family and I lived far from Hope’s Peak Academy; the only way to get there in time was by car or train. When I was 15 years old I managed to finish my high school studies with good grades, the result of my effort and passion for studying, for learning new things.

(In Hiroyuki's class the bell has just rung indicating the end of the class. All the students get up from their seats and leave the classroom)

- PROFESSOR. Hiroyuki, can I talk to you before you leave?

- HIROYUKI. Of course. (He approaches to his teacher)

- PROFESSOR. Congratulations, Hiroyuki. I have been reviewing your academic results and I have to say that they are excellent in comparison with the average, I congratulate you.

- HIROYUKI. (With great happiness) Thank you very much, teacher!

- PROFESSOR. Do you already know in which centre you will study your last courses before University? (Hiroyuki nods)

- HIROYUKI. The moment my parents found out that Hope’s Peak Academy had opened a Reserve Course for untalented students, they started saving money to try and get me admitted there. Reserve Courses were about the same length as the Main Courses, but there were so many applications that every half year a new Reserve Course started so that more students could be admitted.

(In Hiroyuki's house, his father is showing him pictures of the Academy through a computer)

- TADASHI. "The Academy also has a large campus where students can be in contact with nature and rest after classes". Do you like it, son?

- HIROYUKI. I think it's very good.

- TADASHI. Well, with a little bit of luck you will surely enter the next course. All thanks to your effort and work, you see?

- HIROYUKI. (Smiles) Thank you very much.

- TADASHI. Hopefully you will be admitted and then you may become as successful as your brother.

- HIROYUKI. (Swallows) Y-yes...

- HIROYUKI. I felt at that moment how a dagger was being stuck in my heart... The dagger of talent. At that time I didn't get along particularly well with my brother Kichiro; talent made the difference between us like day and night. While he had practically everything figured out in life, I was the fighter, the one who had to work hard and pray for miracles in order to achieve a future that was at least stable.

˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜

- HIROYUKI. My brother was two years older than me and was already in his last year of high school at that Academy. In order to graduate, he had to pass several practical exams before spring started. He had the title of Ultimate Scriptwriter.

(Inside a train to the Academy are Kichiro Kobayashi, Takumi Murakami (Ultimate Yo-Yo Player) and Hari Bachchan (Ultimate Voodoo Student), talking and laughing)

- SPEAKER. Attention, next station is the last one on this route: Hope’s Peak Academy. Be careful when you get off the train.

(The train stops and all the students get off)

- HIROYUKI. He didn't just go there to study. To train the most his skills and gain experience for the future he had been working in a news section of Hope’s Peak for a year and a half. Apparently, the Academy allowed a small management team and him to broadcast announcements, news and motivational phrases as the first thing in the morning before classes started for all those students who arrived early. This was supposed to "provide hope".

(Speakers placed between the walls and the ceiling are lit throughout the corridors and classrooms of the premises)

- KICHIRO (VOICE). (His voice can be heard through the speakers) Good morning, students of Hope’s Peak! It's twenty-three minutes past eight. From this humble section we thank you for being as punctual as always and for continuing listening to us day after day. Today we have a new phrase that will keep your spirits high: motivation does not come from inspiration, but from hard work and eventual failures. Have a great day at school.

- HIROYUKI. "Hard work"? "Failures"? It was quite strange to hear those words coming out of the mouths of people like him. While Kichiro went to the Academy during the week, I spent my mornings and afternoons studying like crazy in order to pass the entrance exam that the school required for all those students who did not possess a recognized talent.

(In Hiroyuki's room, while he is looking through the computer at examination papers from Hope’s Peak Academy, his mother, Natsuki Nishimura, appears)

- NATSUKI. Son, don't you think you should get some rest? I'm going to prepare the food.

- HIROYUKI. Thank you, Mom. I'll be right there. (He keeps looking at the computer and his mother leaves the room. Hiroyuki puts his hands to his head, nervously) Ahh... These maths exercises are impossible to solve. (He looks through the window) If they don't accept me it will be the end of myself... I can't allow that.

(In class 76, where Kichiro, Takumi and Hari are located, there are only a few minutes left before school day finishes. Some students are exhausted and ignore the explanations of Professor Koichi Kizakura)

- KOICHI. (Writing on the board) ...and that is why all the rest of the sentence is the subject. Does anyone know what kind of subordinate sentence this is? (Seiko Kimura raises her hand) Yes, Seiko?

- SEIKO. Could it be a substantive subordinate?

- KOICHI. Is that a question or a statement?

- SEIKO. I-I'm not sure... (her classmates laugh and Seiko looks down regretfully)

- KOICHI. (Leaning on Seiko's table) Do you know what? In this life the most important thing is to have confidence and determination in what you do or say. If you think something is one way, just say so. It doesn't matter if you fail; making mistakes is the most common thing that can happen and it's the only way to learn from them. I will ask you again: is it a question or a statement?

- SEIKO. (Swallows) It is a substantive subordinate clause.

- KOICHI. It’s right! The subject could not be other than that. (He raises his right thumb looking cheerfully at Seiko and rings the bell) Tomorrow I want you all to bring the rest of that sentence completely analysed, okay? See you tomorrow.

(All the students are leaving the class and Ruruka Ando and Sonosuke Izayoi are approaching Seiko. The latter is holding two backpacks: hers and Ruruka's)

- RURUKA. You were fantastic, Seiko!

- SEIKO. (Blushing) Thank you, but it's nothing at all.

- RURUKA. Hey, Seiko, could I ask you another favor?

- SEIKO. (Nods) What is it about?

- RURUKA. Could you prepare some pills to help me sleep? I haven't slept for several days...

- SEIKO. Of course it is. Stop by the chemistry lab in an hour or so and I'll have it ready for you.

- RURUKA. Really? Thank you! I no longer knew how to hide my dark circles...

- SONOSUKE. You never have dark circles under your eyes, Ruruka. (Ruruka looks at him and smiles)

(The last three students leave the classroom and Koichi is left alone, picking up his material. Someone suddenly enters the classroom)

- ???. (Knocking on the door) Can I get in?

- KOICHI. Go ahead. (He sees the face of the person who wanted to enter. It's Celestia Ludenberg) Celestia! How are you? Come in, come in.

- CELESTY. Very well, thank you.

- KOICHI. Did you finally make a decision with what I told you?

- CELESTY. (She approaches a window and looks through it) I've been thinking about it... And I think I'm going to start my High School last courses in this Academy, he, he...

- KOICHI. That's great. You are going to be the Ultimate Gambler of this centre then.

- CELESTY. (Smiles) I'm sure the two courses ahead will be very interesting, I can really feel it...

- KOICHI. (Smiles too) Don't hesitate. As soon as I send your written application to the Academy I will call you and you can fill in the registration form for the new course, okay? (Celestia nods) Well, it was nice to meet you, Celestia. I look forward to teaching you next year if there is still a shortage of teachers.

(Kichiro, Takumi and Hari walk through one of the large gardens on the campus)

- KICHIRO. (Stretching out) I'm getting more and more tired from classes, isn't it the same for you?

- TAKUMI. (Playing with a yo-yo while walking) I think something similar, but I'm not really physically tired. What happens is that some classes are already starting to get boring at this point. The teachers' performance is generally correct, but I think there's a lack of originality in the subjects they deal with, that’s the truth...

- KICHIRO. (Laughs a little) Always so deep, Takumi.

- HARI. Well, the truth is that I don't feel very tired.

- TAKUMI. Of course, because you spend all day thinking about other things than the study, you lazy dude...

- HARI. Who are you calling "lazy"? (He hits himself in the face, but the damage is done to Takumi in his own skin. Hari doesn’t feel any harm thanks to his talent of Ultimate Human Voodoo)

- TAKUMI. As long as they don't go overboard using the spices again, I think it's a good option.

(All go to the above mentioned place)

- HIROYUKI. As I said before, I didn't get along with my brother because of all the differences we had. He, however, didn't give up in the struggle to try to reconcile with me, but I kept on ignoring him and treating him as if he wasn't really my brother.

(In the evening, at dinner time at Hiroyuki's house they are all eating together: he, his brother Kichiro and his parents, sitting at a table. There is both silence and tension in the atmosphere surrounding them)

- NATSUKI. (Trying to break the monotony) How did it go at school today, son?

- KICHIRO. Good. Nothing new at all.

- NATSUKI: Is there any interesting news you have read at the Academy?

- KICHIRO. (Holding back laughter) Apparently a couple of students from the Reserve Course took a fire extinguisher and played a joke on another one of their class.

- KICHIRO. Oh my God, the family must be devastated by this incident.

- SUMIYE. The victim also has a brother, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu, from class 77-B. Do you know him?

- KICHIRO. Practically nothing. I only know him by sight during class exchanges.

- MAN. I need you to prepare a proper speech by 8:30.

- KICHIRO. (Nods firmly) I will do my best.

It is hard to say this, but the student who disappeared yesterday shortly after finishing the last classes of the day has been found dead early in the morning in the music room of this centre... Everything indicates that the culprit has been a pervert who infiltrated the premises just when all the teachers had left, but the police still have to be left to know more precisely the information about the case, so it would be advisable that nobody goes near the scene of the crime during this morning. From here we also want to give our most sincere support to the victim's relatives and acquaintances... At 10.30 a.m. classes will be cut to have a minute's silence for the deceased. (10:32 a.m. Almost all the students, both from Reserve and Main Courses, are outside the facilities and resting on campus waiting for the minute of silence to begin. The teachers are gathered near the entrance talking to each other; among the recognisable faces they stand out: Chisa Yukizome, Koichi Kizakura and the physical education teacher Juzo Sakakura is in the surroundings of the Academy together with a big group of security guards)

- KICHIRO. (He looks for Fuyuhiko in the crowd and approaches him) Fuyuhiko, I am Kichiro Kobayashi, the one who gives the news section in the morning. (He places his right hand on Fuyuhiko's shoulder) Let me tell you that I am very sorry, really.

- FUYUHIKO. (Filled with rage and anger, he takes his hand off of his shoulder) Get away and get out of my sight.

(Peko Pekoyama stands between the two of them and drags Kichiro away from Fuyuhiko)

- PEKO. The young master is very much in grief at his loss. You should stay away for a while until the situation relaxes.

- KICHIRO. I-I understand, I'm sorry.

(Kichiro returns to his classmates and the campus microphones are turned on)

- JIN (VOICE). Good morning. I am Jin Kirigiri, headmaster of Hope’s Peak Academy. Thank you all for attending this meeting to observe a minute's silence for the late student Natsumi Kuzuryu, from the Reserve Course. As soon as a siren sounds the minute will begin, and will sound again when the time is up.

(The siren sounds and everyone is silent. Only the chirping of the sparrows and the wobbling of the trees by the wind can be heard. Some students named Sato, Mahiru and Hiyoko are a bit apart from the large mass of students concentrated in the centre)

- SATO. (Partly relieved and with a somewhat cheerful gesture) This story is over.

- MAHIRU. ... You're not serious, are you? Natsumi is still dead.

- HIYOKO. Screw it. At least that asshole won't be bothering you anymore.

- SATO. Exactly. You don't have to worry about anything anymore, Mahiru, we are here with you to support you.

- NATSUMI (IMAGINATION). (With somewhat distorted sighs) I will never forgive you for what you have done to me. I will never...

(Sato swallows his saliva, sighs and closes his eyes until the minute of silence ends)

- HIROYUKI. Things only got worse. According to what my brother told at home, the next day many female students refused to go to class because of the murder that happened. On the social networks this incident was described as a sexist and terrible act, and Hope’s Peak had gone, for one day, from being recognized nationally for its achievements and goals to being recognized for such a tragic act. But that's not all, what happened the next day marked a turning point in the history of this Academy.

(Hiroyuki can be seen watching news on his computer in his room)

- HIROYUKI. ... It cannot be. Surely they have made a mistake... (He looks at another news item and gets surprised) S-so it is not a mistake... "A second student from the Reserve Course has been found dead in the facilities of Hope’s Peak". Kichiro!! Kichiro!

(Kichiro appears half-dressed)

- KICHIRO. What's going on?

- HIROYUKI. Have you seen the latest news?

- KICHIRO. (Look at his watch) Damn it, I have to go or I'll be late. (He leaves the place quickly)

- HIROYUKI. I hate that the mind tends to remember bad moments more accurately than good ones. I still regret what happened that morning, but I felt very helpless and unprotected then. In fact, I even thought about not taking the Academy entrance exams after those two deaths. I was really afraid about what had happened.

- KOICHI. Yes?
