As a communications major, I just love all the attention to nonverbal communication!!Mad props to the actor Ryan Elllsworth and everyone who worked behind the scenes!

Uzi’s tail often sees N before Uzi does whenever he enters somewhere behind her. She knows he’s there because her tail just TUGS on her to go say hi to N.

The reason it likes him so much is partly because Uzi adores him and it knows that, and partly because whenever it goes up to him of its own volition, he just pets it like a dog.

It also likes to grab at his tail a bunch. Its really careful about his stinger (it punctured itself on it once, leading to it being in N’s mouth, which it did NOT enjoy). It just actively snuggles up to the vial and tries to initiate play, despite N’s tail not being alive like Uzi’s is.

N refers to it as “little buddy.” Uzi calls it “that thingie,” or just “my tail.” They’ve brainstormed other, proper names for it but nothing else ever stuck.

N’s hat has teeth marks in it from Uzi’s tail just gnawing on it. It also shoves its snout into his coat’s neck fluff.

What are your favorite Sterek fics on archiveofourown?

Okay so here’s the deal! I’m mostly a podfic person, so most of my favorite sterek fics I actually listened to, rather than read. Because it’s a different experience that just reading the stories with your eyes, for those of these that I listened to as podfics, I’m gonna just go ahead and link the podfic. That being said, I know many people are not into podfic and that is totally cool, so if podfic is not your thing, just find wherever on the podfic page it says ‘Inspired by ______’ and click that to go to the original written work. Also be aware that I’m a lover of angst and my choices most definitely reflect that ehehe.

Safety in Silence

It’s a genius take on soulmates. Like 99% of soulmates fics are like, they meet, there is a mishap, they decide to give things a try and live happily ever after. Which is great and I thoughoughly enjoy. But this is like taking that and twisting it into years of delicious angst. I think about this fic SO frequently.

Stand Fast in Your Enchantments

Sterek with nonverbal communication is actually my favorite thing ever (see also: Don’t Speak, later on this list). It’s just so good and I won’t spoil it but you’ve got magic Stiles and shifted Derek and it’s just incredible.

The Threat of Human Sacrifice

The most tender Derek Hale of all the Derek Hales. Mpreg, but listen I don’t read mpreg all that often and this is still one of my all time favorite fics in ANY fandom I’ve been in. If you listen to it, do yourself a favor and make sure you listen to the chapters in order (unlike a CERTAIN DUMBASS. ((me.)))

Misfire

Do I still, not infrequently, fall asleep imagining different ways this could’ve gone? Yes. All of the stiles-briefly-goes-back-in-time fics that I’ve read have been great, but this one. Ohhhhh this one. So so so good. If the ending sits the wrong way with you, I’ve been told the sequel(s?) are meant to help with that, but aaaa it’s so good as is.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words (which actually DOES have a podfic that I’d highly recommend, but since it’s still unfinished, that’s a link to the finished text.)

The longest fic on this list by far, but WOW it doesn’t even feel like it. As you might expect, it’s pretty slow burn, but it’s a rare find in that it is super long, but also interesting the whole way through AND cohesive. Extremely enjoyable read for me. Magic Stiles, mute Derek. (another one that features nonverbal communication)

No Homo

It’s a classic okay just go read it. Everything by this author is stellar and amazing. (Note, the author took her works off ao3, but the Podfic is there so this counts as being on archiveofourown lmao. If you want the written work I’ll find a link for you elsewhere)

Also it’s been awhile since I read it but I’m pretty sure Don’t Speak deserves a place on my favorites.

I fall, I fall, I falter is the short/smutty fic I reread the most because I fking love angst. (Not the happiest ending though fair warning. Not like BAD, but ya know.)

Also if we’re talking smut, I don’t really go in for non-con but I DO go in for dub-con, and Lap Magnet and Build an Ivory Tower are just *chefs kiss*

Also I think about Sell Your Body to The Night quite a lot. One of those really great fics that’s long AND has a variety of detailed smut but also an actual plot that makes you care about them.

I also love Blushing Pretty for something a little sweeter.

Being Found and sequel Finding I think are really special cause I really love how intimate they are.

And I’ll stop with Second Chances which is really short and sweet and I liked it so much I recorded it! It was my first public podfic!

I could literally go on forever (and I realize many of these are sterek classics so if you were looking for slightly lesser-known fics I can add to this lol). There are definitely some I’m forgetting too, if I remember I’ll add them. Enjoy!!!!

My heart was already in pieces now it's been chucked out the window a swept into the bin. I was tortured by this chapter in the best possible way.

I feel so bad for both of them, like Shiggy fully believes Dabi won't ever reciprocate his feelings, but mixing is usually not a good thing and now Dabi just thinks it's was part of the play and ughhhhh my heart

But the inclusion of both their verbal and nonverbal safewords with the constant check in's throughout the whole scene was *chefs kiss* and also really appreciated in those heavier scenes. As always thank you and I hope you had and have fun!

I'm sorry about the damage sustained to your heart, to Shigaraki's heart, (to Dabi's heart), but unfortunately, I also feed on suffering! I'm sure that they'll be able to work things out, clear communication is the name of the game!

And the game has to be safe for everyone playing! It was really important to me to make sure that those signals were used throughout the entire scene to make sure that everyone (characters and reader alike) was on the same page and that things didn't get pushed too far! I'm glad that they helped!

A/N: I kinda HC Sloane as growing up on Pingu, a British-Swedish stop motion animated classic. It was a fave of mine as a kid, and I later found out that many autistic kids - esp those who use more nonverbal communication - are fond of it.

"You two should go home now," Sloane grumbles, her voice almost muffled underneath her Milky Way Galaxy blanket. "I'm fine, really."

And she isn't lying. She hasn't suffered a fever in four days now, and though her throat still feels sore, the sandpaper sensation of using her voice doesn't burn as ferociously as it did a week ago.

Residual throatache and general tiredness. That's all that's left of this awful flu.

Iris ignores her. "Hazel, honey, put on some Pingu," she calls out, frowning over a pot of steaming chicken soup. "'Pingu the Chef' is her favourite."

Hazel's head is buried inside her cupboard of old keepsakes from her mom's home. "Coming!" She yells back to Iris, holding a well-worn penguin in her hand.

She tosses it playfully in the direction of Sloane's bed. "What did you finally name this one?"

Sloane has only enough energy to offer a weak smile. "Katie Bouman." She doesn't remember what she'd named it when Mom gave it to her. "To keep you company at your first ever Space Camp," she'd said, brushing a soft kiss over her forehead. They'd both been so nervous then. Little Trudy had never stayed overnight away from home, away from Mom.

It was one of the few things Sloane took back with her when she'd visited Mom a few years ago, just before Khaan and the group set in motion their plans to defeat Eros. Sloane shivers as she remembers her sense of dread that day, wondering if this would be the last time she'd ever visit this room. How she swallowed the lump in her throat when she saw the worry in Mom's eyes, the questions Sloane couldn't bring herself to answer.

Hazel frowns at Sloane's involuntary shudder, enfolding her in her thick blanket and tucking Katie into her weak arms.

The two settle back on the bed, backs against the bedstand, as the titular little penguin throws corn kernels into a hot pan. His baby sister watches, jumping up and down when the yellow seeds puff up and turn white.

"What?" Hazel mouths when she sees Sloane silently giggling. She covers her mouth, already anticipating one of her favourite parts in the episode; Pingu's sister fooling her brother into looking away before stealing his share of kernels.

Pingu stares for a second at the empty pan, then glares after his baby sister, his beak already stretching to form the shape of a trumpet horn.

"Noot noot!"

Hazel guffaws, slapping her thigh. "He looks so cute when he does that."

Sloane's laughter is significantly fainter, yet carries the same note of joy and amusement. "Mom says when I first started watching Pingu, I wouldn't stop saying 'noot noot' for a whole month."

Iris comes out of the kitchen as she says this, bowl of soup in hand. Sloane breathes in the scent of roasted garlic emanating from it with a sigh of pleasure. On Sloane's laptop screen, Pingu takes out an obscenely large amount of corn kernels and throws them in a far larger pot.

"It's a very versatile word," Hazel says, grinning, "You could say it when you're excessively happy... excessively distressed..."

"... excessively pissed off at annoying younger siblings who steal your food from right under your nose..." Iris adds, winking in Sloane's direction. Hazel is surprisingly quiet in the middle of all the teasing.

Sloane has enough energy to half-heartedly elbow Iris in the ribs. "You damn well deserved a few noot noots for nicking my Ben&Jerry tub on your first day here."

Iris looks all injured innocence. "I didn't do that, Dipper did."

"Very nice, very 'the dog ate my homework', Iris," Hazel mocks gently, rolling her eyes at her girlfriend before looking at Sloane. "Did you always do that?"

"Do what?" Sloane takes slow, lingering sips of her soup, savoring its warmth. Pingu and his sister are now panicking over a mile-long trail of popcorn strewn over their kitchen floor.

"Repeat phrases no matter the context? In some of the childhood stories you've told me so far, you'd done that with other words."

Echolalia, the first therapist they'd met had told Mom. She likes repeating the words, but is yet to grasp their meaning. That last thought is more imagination than memory; all she can truly recall from that visit were the tiny farm animals she had sorted in a row on a playmat, by order of height.

"Yeah," Sloane whispers, her smile a tiny bit wider as she watches Pingu take boxes of freshly made popcorn on his sled, going from house to house, using his overzealous mistake to feed an entire polar neighborhood. "I always thought of words in terms of sounds first. The more I liked the sound of something, the more I'd use it whether I knew the meaning or not. You had to show me a visual, over and over again until I connected the two, if you wanted me to understand what a word meant. It took Mom a little time to realize that."

Sloane smiles at the sight the three of them must make right now, watching a childhood favourite on a bed surrounded by all the interests and all the achievements of her adulthood. The first time she'd watching this show, Mom had been curious. She'd never shown much interest in watching anything for more than a couple minutes, making going to the cinema almost an impossibility.

But this show, with its adorable clay penguin figures who spoke a language she didn't need to understand and who forced her to read their body language instead...this show was different. This show grabbed her attention and wouldn't let go. This show stayed with her long after she stopped binge-watching it, growing into a lifelong interest in real-life penguins.

She looks up at her best friends, both so different in their body language yet so familiar. Hazel's limbs are sprawled over her bed in a sort of casual grace, as if she is owning the space. Iris rests her chin on her right knee, her head tilted as she often does when she's thinking deeply about the media she's watching. Sloane feels a frisson of familiarity as she watches her - in so many ways they're so similar; sometimes Sloane wonders how much of herself she's incorporated into Iris. There are moments when looking at her is like looking at a mirror - the same responses on a drastically different face.

Even now, if Sloane tries hard enough, she knows that some of the ways she reads people's reactions can be vaguely traced to that stressful - yet indescribably exciting - exercise of trying to understand what Pingu was doing, what Pingu was saying, what Pingu was feeling.

"Mm," Iris says, grinning as Sloane finishes off her soup. She's been showing better appetite today than she has the whole week. "looks like they managed to clear out all that excess popcorn, eh?"

Sloane smiles back. Pingu drives his sled through the snow from house to house, his beak morphing into the shape of a trumpet horn as he announces his arrival. In a sound that is no longer annoyance, or anger - but excitement.

I HC Sloane as having speech delays as a child, that initially didn't go noticed because she was echoing words she heard.

I think the subtle way you framed past relationships as a problem and how that naturally affects the characters but they get around these problems together and Kate is willing to help R even if they don't exactly say it out loud, like, they may have talked about it at some point before but not at that moment. they know each other well and seem to know each other's minds, which leads to connection and nonverbal communication about the topic in a smooth way that works for their development and the story itself. I think that's why I like your fics in general, there's always a “problem” even if it's not something big, but it reflects on the characters' dynamics and although others fics have the same formula, you seem to make it all flow naturally with the amount of information necessary, not too massive and not too “dry”. Literally that thing about sharing information in a mysterious way kajsksjwja. okay, I see it and you're right, I'll try not to collapse.

His favorite foods are dumplings, takoyaki, and some southern comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, slow-cooker soups and chilis in bread bowls, and seafood boils. (Mmmmm)

Give this man some nutrition, he is TIRED of not having the resources to be able to cook some decent food for himself. He's got a lot of muscle that he has to keep healthy!

He won't let you touch his knives. They are coated in other people's blood and you could get infections or diseases >:(

He also showers, brushes his teeth, and gets rid of the blood smell thoroughly before laying down to snuggle with you.

Will actually melt if you play with his hair. Chizome is actually SO in love with scalp massages. He would fall asleep on yo u with a blush creeping across his face in SECONDS. But dont talk about it unless you don't wanna do it again.

He would die if you wore some of his clothes. Like one of his shirts or something thrown on right when you wake up in the morning is the most gorgeous sight to him. You'll be standing in the kitchen trying to make some coffee and he won't stop pestering you with hugs and kisses until you return said hug and kiss.

There is a lot of nonverbal communication and understanding between the two of you as well. It just... clicks with him.

House work is not really his strong suit but he loves to help. The last thing he needs is a stressed and tired S/O when he comes home from missions.

Hand holding is so frequent you might as well be fused together 🤷‍♀️. It just comes with Chizome's territory.

Above all, his adoration for you goes wayyyyy beyond your appearance. Although you are so gorgeous in his eyes, your personality, soul, mindset, and the way you treat him is what floored his interest in you. He loves you more than life itself, there's no denying it, so please return that love and be nice to him. Mans deserves it.

I don’t know what /lh is....nonnie reveal thy secrets!! But also for you here’s some more *mwah* chefs kiss autistic sunny HC. It is best headcanon

Sunny has one brand of colored pencils that he likes to draw with. They come presharpened so he doesn’t have to sharpen them (The sound is just no) they don’t get dull super easy, the colors are muted but nice, and he adores them to death. Kel gets him a new pack every year for his birthday and christmas because he always dulls them down within six months. Rather than have to sharpen them, he just uses the brand new pack

This also ties into Sunny collects things because he keeps all of his half used color pencils. he has dozens at this point

Also when Sunny was little he was nonverbal (more so than he is now) but he used his drawings as a way to communicate. Mari would sit with him and look at his drawings and she always knew what he was saying with them

Stim toys are not something Sunny ever had access to before, but Aubrey gets him some as a random present. She gets him a bat chew necklace and he always wears it. 

This is also how Sunny finds out that Aubrey knows that he’s autistic

Well Sunny doesn’t even know he’s autistic, but he knows that Aubrey knows he’s different. She sits next to him as he fidgets with it in his fingers and feels out the textures and she doesn’t say anything. 

He leans against her though and she wraps her arm around him so it’s good. She says You’re Welcome to his silent thank you 

Basil’s backyard is a little overwhelming for Sunny because it has so many different smells and colors and it’s hot because it has some greenhouse stuff, but he likes to visit Basil

Basil finds a work around and he creates a corner of the greenhouse that is specifically for him and Sunny. The only thing he grows there is white tulips and there’s a nook under a tree so most of the other colors are blocked. 

It’s perfect and it’s one of Sunny’s favorite spots in existence.

Oh this whole scene is good with Chibs asking him does he get into argument with Usa and does he tell everything. 

His answer! Catch that answer!

He learned the hard way. Tell your damn girlfriend who can save the world and have a friend who also see visions that you are having dreams about her dying instead of breaking up with her and acting like an ass. That would save you a whole lot of trouble.

But catch his second part of his answer 

“ Usako as you can tell  is the type that can’t hide anything” 

Which makes the birthday episode in season 3 even more OTC for Usagi because that should have been the first thing he should have known from her.This girl told the audience almost every episode what grade shes in , how old she is and etc but her own BF didn’t know when her birthday was?  

His answer in a whole shows the introversion of him and how he hold back things which he’s learning not too anymore (“I don’t have to hold back against her now.”) and the Extroverion of her where she’s an open book which people are able to tell her things ( “ Usako as you can tell is the type that can’t hide anything”).

That one line shows how their relationship should work if the 90′s anime did it more properly.. 

But I think that’s the reason why I relate with him so easy because I sometimes see myself in him along with seeing myself in Rei. 

That’s why it kind of brothers me when people are like “ Mamoru is boring and don’t have a personality” because he’s not the type of male character to swoop in and make the whole situation about him. He is the type of character who like being in the background and want to help but feel like he doesn’t have nothing to contribute to Usagi .He feels like a burden to her than someone who can help her. ( Which is one of the main issues in his character journey in the Manga) Introverts don’t make the situation all about them but they want to help. Honestly Introverts don’t want the spotlight off of them.   But when a introvert speak, you better stop everything you are doing because they don’t bullshit with their words. ( Example Me lol) 

But this part when Usagi comes to take her home. 

She was acting so good with Mamo and now she wants to act like a brat. 

Also when Usagi is actually concerned for her.

I’d just like to say that especially after your most recent post I’m in love with the way you write communication during sex. I know a lot of people will write “in the moment” kinda stuff where it’s assumed there was communication beforehand but the way you do it is *chef kiss* *chef kiss* *chef kiss*

I guess it's because like yeah. There is in the moment stuff, and over time with a partner you learn their nonverbal communication, but the first time especially like there's nothing wrong with saying "hey can we do this?" Because then you know for absolute certainty that yes! They do! In fact I think it's not only the best thing to do, but it's actually super hot because this person wants you and your body but they also want to know you're going to be okay with that too. Idk! I just think its neat *gestures frantically at good communication between partners* and more authentic too.

Finally finished Hi Score Girl II (i.e. Season 2) via Netflix, with English Dub.

SPOILERS FOLLOW It was just as solid as Season 1, but with the Love Triangle and intense emotions ramped up to 11.  And our boy Yaguchi finally coming to terms with his genuine feelings for Akira Ono.  Though it takes a girl (Koharu Hidaka) to explain another girl’s actions & emotions (Ono) for our Main Character to avoid the “Sad End” of this choose-your-own adventure drama in the gripping Season Finale, because I made the same erroneous assumption as Yaguchi.

Hats off to the English voice actress for Koharu Hidaka, Erika Harlacher...that final scene is so powerful and full of emotion as she berates Yaguchi and tells him what Ono really meant.  He rushes off to Narita to prove his love to Ono while Hidaka bursts into tears, her heart breaking all over again.  The young man she loves loves another and she just helped her rival because she knows they’re meant for each other and she wants them to be happy.  She wants love to win, even if she temporarily loses.  Cements for me that Koharu Hidaka is a genuinely good person.

I’ve never read the Hi Score Girl manga, so I can’t state this definitively for sure, and I don’t know if even the manga addresses it...but it dawned on me in the final episodes of Season 2....what if Akira Ono is herself autistic and nonverbal?  I just assumed she was taciturn, laconic & stubborn...and that her sudden violent outbursts were for comedic effect.  They are played for comedy, but when you look at Akira through the interpretive lens of her being a nonverbal autistic girl, suddenly her weird flashes of anger and violence have a context...she gets angry because she’s FRUSTRATED...she wants desperately to communicate with Yaguchi but she can’t do so by talking.  If she could she would, but she can’t and it drives her to bite him and swing her fists sometimes.  When this realization dawned on me it made the story so much sadder for me, and I found myself being so much more forgiving of Akira and feeling sorry for her plight.  She communicates by body language and her expressive eyes and facial expressions.  Both girls manage to get Yaguchi to spend the night with them in a hotel bed...completely chastely in each case but a mark of increasing intimacy.  But Yaguchi allows & accepts Akira’s small gestures of physical intimacy...holding his hand, pressing her body up against him, looking lovingly into his eyes.

The final race to the airport and reunion scene is even more emotionally intense than their first separation in their Middle School years.  They affirm their love openly for each other, embracing tightly while the tears flow from both of them.  Yaguchi expresses his determination to follow Akira to Los Angeles and stay by her side forever as her rival and the love of her life.  She has to depart for now, but this is not the end.  The game has merely shifted to the next stage......ahhh.  *Chef’s Kiss*

My Family Can't Even With My Dramatic Ass: SPN 15x09

Y'all...that was...that was so much. Let me tell you. I was making noises through that episode that I didn't even know I could make. My children were concerned for my well being. My mother in law over heard me while she was on the phone with my husband and asked if I was hurt (answer: emotionally, yes) and who the hell Chuck was and why he was a sick SOB. I was on my knees at one point. From beginning to end, it had my heart racing. I'm just....

The acting:

I felt her pain when she had to cut Sam! I felt that!!! I felt her regret! I felt her disdain towards chuck. I felt her conflict of not knowing what was real!

You beautiful beast, you. Every moment of realization and revelation was CLEAR AS DAY. This man had an emotional rollercoaster throughout this episode. Hope, pain, regret, defiance, loss, indecision....and even when he was tied to a chair it SHOWED! His facial expressions were on point! I live! Glorious as always, my dude!

Can we please talk about how this man has, probably, the hardest, most controversial job in network television right now. He has to make you hate God. GOD! And he is killing it! Like, he is such a quirky loveable person, but I want his character to burn. That's skill. I feel so uncomfortable when chuck is on screen. I feel so uneasy, like that " walking alone at night in a bad neighborhood" feeling. Just *chef kiss* bravo.

Misha

I know a lot of people don't like him. A lot of people rag on his acting saying 'Castiel only has like 3 emotions/faces'. But when you look at the actor vs the character...Misha is a very expressive person. He is energetic and dramatic and high pitched and his face is always expressive and pretty much he is the opposite of Castiel. Setting aside the fact that he's played like 8 different characters on the show and you can tell which one by facial expressions alone, the fact that this man has been playing a character that is so opposite of who he really is for so long and still keeps people intrigued speaks volumes about his skill. He was wonderful as always in this episode and that is my opinion and I'm sorry you can't change my mind.

Give this man ALL of the awards! This whole damn season! Just *incoherent fangirl screeching* From his concern for Sam, to his panic, the TEARS, the confidence with Chuck, his pain over losing Cas, the resignation....I felt uncomfortable. I felt uncomfortable because I felt like I was watching a real human being go through all of that. He made me feel like I was watching someone's actual life unfold. You, Jensen, are an artist! Like hot holy damn! I'm basically just still sitting in awe over it. I cant even...jut... flrubergurbermlehlefleh!

Sam, Chuck, and Eileen

I can't handle the pain. When chuck had Eileen cut Sam....nope, no, uh uh, not okay. I was cussing out a fictional character. Out loud. People heard me. Big mad.

Chuck manipulating the Sam/Eileen relationship? I have some not so positive feelings about this. Like, the man has suffered enough. Let hi. Have something good for once without sticking your dirty little fingers in it.

Chuck physically torturing Sam and expecting it to break him? Ha! Dude has had his foot bruleed! One scalpel ain't gonna cut it. Why is he still defiant. Because he's Sam f***ing Winchester.

That first future clip hurt. I like Claire.

That second one made me panic. All I could think was "why is Cas gone?"

The third one though....Sam packing up to head out and Dean coming in defeated. I have so many thoughts and feelings. This is the point I was on my knees. Because Sam was trying to keep the faith. Present Sam was convinced Chuck was showing him lies, because Dean was giving up. But the part that is haunting me, aside from the fact that we learn, Donna, the girls, Eileen and pretty much everyone except Jody and Bobby are gone, is one single pronoun. I. Dean didn't say "we had to bury Cas". He said "I". Where was Sam when all this happened? Why was Dean the one who had to bury him? Alone! Cas is Sam's friend too.How Fucking strong and Terrifying was Cas with the mark that a damn Ma'lek box was the only solution?! Also angel knight of hell demon wtf flerbergerber...IWANTTOKNOWWHATHAPPENDANDHOWALLTHATWENTDOWNOMFC!!!!!

Chucks whole "oh, oh no Dean, don't go out that door...." bs made me rage

Dean didn't blow up at Sam. He has acknowledged his anger and is working on it. THAT'S CHARACTER GROWTH MY FRIENDS!
