How a cup of water can unlock the secrets of our Universe
"Researchers from Queen Mary University of London have made a discovery that could change our understanding of the universe. In their study published in Science Advances, they reveal, for the first time, that there is a range in which fundamental constants can vary, allowing for the viscosity needed for life processes to occur within and between living cells. This is an important piece of the puzzle in determining where these constants come from and how they impact life as we know it."
Tumblr media
"Fundamental physical constants shape the fabric of the universe we live in. Physical constants are quantities with a value that is generally believed to be both universal in nature and to remain unchanged over time – for example the mass of the electron. They govern nuclear reactions and can lead to the formation of molecular structures essential to life, but their origin is unknown. This research might bring scientists one step closer to determining where these constants come from.
“Understanding how water flows in a cup turns out to be closely related to the grand challenge to figure out fundamental constants. Life processes in and between living cells require motion and it is viscosity that sets the properties of this motion. If fundamental constants change, viscosity would change too impacting life as we know it. For example, if water was as viscous as tar life would not exist in its current form or not exist at all. This applies beyond water, so all life forms using the liquid state to function would be affected.”"

Did you know: On 2 December 1942, the first human-made self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction was initiated in CP-1, during an experiment led by Enrico Fermi.

Literally cannot get over how much incredible potential for a friendship Deacon and Preston had, that we never got to see develop. They like what each others’ factions do, despite whatever smaller hangups they have about the group, and Preston can get SO involved in the Railroad questline if he’s the companion you take? The two men have both been sole survivors of their faction being betrayed and massacred and had to rebuild from the ashes with a mountain of survivor’s guilt and fear and self-loathing? Like literally the one person who could understand what you’ve been through is sitting across the table at Sanctuary Hills boys; I am BEGGING you to have a conversation. If they ever just, like, got stuck on a foxhole together for two days, it would fundamentally change both their lives and I think I deserve to see that.

thoughts on who initiated the hand holding during titanic? and perhaps any thoughts on the first time they held hands?
who cares who initiated the handholding. both of them. that movie gets scary as fuck especially if you frequently work on big boats on big open oceans in tight enclosed spaces. nightmare material fr

i hate to be the basic bitch i am, but emilia holdoncallfailed, can i request a playlist based around the kind of distorted hauntedness of battery in your leg?
dear anon, i don't think you're a basic bitch but i do suspect you're some kind of emotional masochist based on this request.
spotify + youtube
how do you sleep? — lcd soundsystem [i think this is the closest analog to BIYL due to the distorted hauntedness you described and also being about james murphy's estranged ex-collaborator who was a childhood friend of his.]
jane cum — japanese breakfast
hazel st — deerhunter [h/t gen of course]
i don't smoke — mitski
wish you were dead — scheer
nobody else will be there — the national
don't holdyrbreath (girly-sound version) — liz phair
fillmore jive — pavement
beside myself — fanny
winter song — yoko ono
which will — nick drake
says elliott — sibylle baier
moon over goldsboro — the mountain goats
razor love — neil young [not on spotify unfortch]
railroad boy — the magnetic fields
margaret vs. pauline — neko case
cold apartment — vagabon
1995 — the radio dept.
a worrying thing — yo la tengo
by some miracle — philip selway
comin' back to me — jefferson airplane
BONUS: how do you sleep? — john lennon [far, far more bitter than BIYL but nevertheless probably THE ultimate band breakup song and the obvious inspiration for the lcd soundsystem track. it also features a climactic guitar solo like in BIYL—this one is played by george harrison so it's similar to the blur song in that there is a ghost of the old band within it via guitar solo...something to think about...]

Yeah, the movie basically ended like that, Godzilla was pretty badly wounded, so retreated to heal. Kiryu had run out of battery after that, and somehow floated to the surface despite being metal.
As for the not-Godzilla movie, it's the one that looks like this:
Tumblr media
Looks nothing like Godzilla at all, more like a modified T-Rex mixed with an iguana(the animal that got mutated by an atomic bomb to look like this).
The movie was originally going to look more like the classic Godzilla, but the original idea was scrapped when the directors changed. I don't remember who was originally planning to make it, but the new director in charge was Roland Emmerich, who didn't really care about Godzilla. He changed everything about Godzilla except for the origins and made this.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the movie, it's a good monster movie. It's just not a Godzilla movie despite the title.
By the time this movie was made, Toho had decided to put their Godzilla movies on hiatus 3 years prior to this movie because of box office numbers or whatever, and because they wanted to let America have a shot with the rights to Godzilla. The last movie was Godzilla vs Destroyah, the movie where Godzilla dies. But due to this movie being made, it pretty much disappointed and made Toho decide to make more Godzilla movies to basically cleanse the public's eye of the false Godzilla.
And so the Millennium Era of Godzilla movies were made, out of spite for America's disappointing first iteration of the giant lizard. They made fun of America's version throughout most of the movies, obviously or subtly, until the last movie before America had another go and the one in 2014 came out. That last movie was Godzilla Final Wars, the 50th anniversary send off for the kaiju back in 2004. In that movie, they bought the rights to the 98 Godzilla, renamed it Zilla, made it look worse than the movie, and had it face off against the true Godzilla. Here's how that went(you're gonna have to go to this link of their fight, I can't put a video in an ask):

Oh I see!
That is very interesting owo
Video's fun as well ^^

speaking of kon and family i am generally of the opinion that he never really puts a strict label on any of it because its more difficult than that, and something that is so core to his character is that he never had parents, but i will say its funny* how most people who say this are also the people who, when they see fans or dc call clark kons brother/cousin, cry about how labels make it less meaningful, theyre just family! and then turn around and call ma his grandma. so labels are only bad when clark is called something other than kons father right?
i think theres definitely merit to him never specifying who is what to him in this sense but i also think its kind of weird to refuse to acknowledge that ma and pa are his adoptive parents. like canonically. sure i still dont think its that simple and kon probably wouldnt just start calling ma his mom more than the word ma already implies, but its really obvious how much people HATE to acknowledge this or even consider it maybe even more than they hate it when clark is called kons brother/cousin. yknow like people got SO mad about kon referring to ma as his mom in that (bad) comic i saw people say its Worse than him being in a relationship with mgann..... like okay.... can u elaborate on that.. why is it worse exactly.... oh right it completely negates the possibility of clark being his father. right!

Listen, I'm completely against nuclear energy outside of medical uses and think that the usage of the bomb is a stain on humanity we will never be able to erase away, however moral judgement of the scientists themselves becomes complicated when you consider many of them were jewish and intended to use the bomb on the nazis.
