On June 25th 1971 , John Boyd Orr, biologist and Nobel Prize Winner, died.
John Boyd Orr's pioneering research led to millions of children across the UK being given free school milk from 1946 to 1971 when Margaret Thatcher, then education secretary, cut provision giving her the mick name Thatcher, "Thatcher, Thatcher, milk snatcher”
Boyd Orr was born in Ayrshire into a religious and highly literate family, and it was perhaps inevitable that he should be destined for a career in teaching after studying theology. However, his studies at Glasgow University also opened up new avenues for him. He became interested in the theories of Darwin, and this led to a fascination with zoology.
When he graduated with his MA in 1902, he was assigned to a teaching position in the Glasgow slums to fulfil the obligations required by his scholarship. He lasted only a few days before resigning and going back home to Ayrshire where he was reassigned to a school in Saltcoats. There he completed his teaching but left as soon as he could, saying: "though I liked the children, I hated teaching them”.
Boyd Orr returned to university to study biology and medicine, and he graduated with a BSc in 1910 and MB ChB two years later. He only practised for one month before returning to university to undertake nutritional research. His MD thesis in 1914 was awarded the Bellahouston Gold Medal for the most distinguished thesis of the year.
On the recommendation of his supervisor, he was asked to be the first director of a new research institute in Aberdeen, which would later become the world renowned Rowett Institute. At the time of his appointment, it did not exist, but he would spend the next twenty-five years raising both funds and the profile of nutritional research to make it a reality.
The initial work to build the institute was, however, interrupted by the outbreak of war. Boyd Orr enlisted in the RAMC and saw active service on the Western Front where he was awarded both the Military Cross and the Distinguished Service Order. Later he would never wear the medals saying that the truly brave men had all died.
In the interwar years, he travelled widely and published extensively, emerging as one of the country’s leading experts in nutrition. He first came to national attention in 1936 with the publication of Food, Health and Income, a report of a dietary survey by income group, which revealed that the cost of a diet meeting basic nutritional needs was beyond the means of half the British population.
This led to similar studies being conducted in nineteen other countries and prompted the creation of a Commission of the League of Nations, which tried to formulate a global food policy. It became the forerunner of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Boyd Orr would become the Director General of the FAO from 1945-48. These were important years because the predicted European post-war famine was averted in part by policies put forward by the organisation.
Boyd Orr was no stranger to the challenges of developing and implementing food policies, many of which are still with us today. He spent his later career trying to persuade governments and presidents, organisations and companies to rethink the way they did things. However, he would often bemoan the fact that while he could persuade farmers of the importance of the nutrition of their animals, he could not stir their interest “in the food of their ain bairns, far less in the bairns of ither folks”.
His was a life filled with honours and awards, from Gold medals at University to military decorations to honorary degrees and more. He was elected Rector of Glasgow University and subsequently became its Chancellor. He was briefly a British Member of Parliament, and in 1935 he was knighted for his services to agriculture. In 1949, after he was awarded the Nobel Prize, Prime Minister Clement Attlee ennobled him as Baron Boyd Orr of Brechin Mearns.
Reading of Boyd Orr’s long career it seems he had a series of false starts and perhaps even failures. But he was no dilettante. He combined a powerful intellect with an admirable work ethic to achieve a mastery in everything he tried. That he chose to move from a career in teaching to medical practice, to research, to politics and then to governance and policy making was not evidence of mere restlessness but of a constant desire to do meaningful work.
Boyd Orr was at heart a man with an ambitious vision for the world, and he firmly believed that real peace and prosperity would only ever be achieved when no one was hungry.
The citation for the 1949 Nobel Peace Prize read: “for his lifelong effort to conquer hunger and want, thereby helping to remove a major cause of military conflict and war”.

speaking as someone who grew up in a very nutritionally focused family (at least half of us have ocd) the whole ''heres this weeks findings on what foods are going to slowly kill u'' industry is infinitely more deadly than any food could ever be

Whatever I hate those people who promote health and well-being by telling people to eat low calorie anything like you need to be full and have energy to have a good day like I’m not saying to over indulge and I’m not saying people don’t eat a lot are evil and stupid I think we need to avoid bad eating habits and i hate how diet culture enables it

Healing Magic has a limit. If the body has been healed too deeply at once it will die. This is why healing magic is only done with minor injuries and stabilizing patients. As a nutritionalist you discover that it’s because healing magic needs calories and nutrients to repair injuries.

Truly the best advice forever is to not take advice from someone who's life you wouldn't want
Like I have a nutritionalist who has healed her chronic conditions so much so when she talks about food I'm like hell yeah tell me what I gotta do
But she's also extremely single so when she makes long posts about how marriage and love and commitment do or don't work or why she thinks marrying for love and passion is modern and doesn't work I'm like girl you're alone so I really don't care

Kirishima does a lot of lives and vlogs for health and wellness. He's very humble, does polls on what exercises people are looking for, he will make sure ALL of his exercises are both in gym and at home with the same effectiveness. In some of his at home workouts he is even using gallon waters to show that anything can be a weight and working out doesn't have to be pricey.
He'd be big into calisthenics because your own body weight is free, plus it helps you master muscle isolation before adding in equipment that could hurt you.
He tries to sneak it into EVERY routine and ALWAYS has a warm up, cool down period for stretching.
Occasionally gets gamer/streamer bakugou in the vlog (bakugou never vlogs his personal shit) and Katsuki is forever meal prepping for Kirishima and the streamer house. (three men and one lady 👀)
Kirishima tries not to get Bakugou in his shots often, but will show his hands and joke that Bakugou is his nutritionalist to which Bakugou tells him to fuck off. Katsuki even helps Kirishima when he struggles to get a meal plan together for budget friendly preps and Suki is so good at swapping in cheaper meats or vegetables without costing Marcos

Wait i was censoring myself in my last ask but you just as freaky as me fr Mei Mei would be into so taboo mommy roleplay and wouldn’t even be slightly ashamed of it, if she did originally pay for your services would manipulate you into a relationship 1. To save money and 2. She doesn’t want to share
If you weren’t a sorcerer she would scare you about curses and say she’s the only one that could protect you and if you were a sorcerer she’d somehow convince you to quit and just stay at home and be pretty for her.
Would be very picky with your appearance, would have a whole new wardrobe picked out for you, if she had time would pick your outfits, tell you how to wear your hair, have a private personal trainer and nutritionalist for you, takes your measurements every month saids it’s for clothes but we all know
On a positive note she’d be very caring and would spoil you a lot, her apologies would come in the form of gifts
Would be into orgasm denial and overstimulation, think leaving your blindfolded and bondaged with a vibrator while she goes on a mission if you annoyed her
Ui Ui would still be ur biggest hater
Save me toxic Mei Mei….. save me
(cackling over ui ui being a hater)
MEI MEI IS THE MOMMY DOM OF MY DREAMS. Listen, I love this SO much. and thank you for diving in deeper to your initial message. and she would absolutely be this controlling: all the details from how you dress down top the finer details of how she prefers you keep your 😺 maintained. Mei would have so much control over this relationship, but that woman would spoil you absolutely rotten. you are her baby girl, after all, and she will treat you as such.
& regarding your last message as well, she would totally put a collar on you. and would definitely lend you out to others if it means she can make extra cash BUT I think she would have still be involved: either she watches or participates because there is no way her baby girl would be outta her sight <3

I’ve noticed everything I do, skinny people are more loved and prettier; in movies, at school, in my own family. I don’t mean to be rude saying that I think skinny people are prettier, I just don’t feel pretty anymore.
SORRY FOR THE RANT
Please give me any tips, I’m not sure how this app works too much but I’d love to be mutuals with anyone and everyone 💗💗💗

I have a new headcanon
Robin and Vickie, Eddie and Chrissy and Jonathan and Argyle all move to Los Angeles together after they graduate.
Robin, Vickie and Chrissy all share an apartment together as do Jonathan, Argyle and Eddie close by.
Robin and Vickie decided to go to Los Angeles together for college and when Chrissy got into the same college, Robin and Vickie realised they couldn’t afford the rent for their dream apartment alone so they invited Chrissy to be their roommate and since Chrissy was struggling with figuring out where to live while in Los Angeles, since her parents haven’t offered her any financial support since they found out she’s dating Eddie, she’s more than happy to accept Robin and Vickie’s offer.
Eddie wanted to follow Chrissy to Los Angeles but he can’t figure out how he would be able to support himself living there, until Jonathan and Argyle return to Hawkin’s from California they’re looking for a supplier and they’re pointed in Eddie’s direction. Eddie recognises Jonathan since he remembers him from school as “they guy who’s little brother went missing a couple years back” and they end up talking about how they’ve been living in California the past year. Eddie asks them questions about what it’s like there because he’s planning to move there, if he can figure out how to support himself. Jonathan and Argyle tell him they’re also planning to go to community college together in Los Angeles and Eddie could be their roommate as long as they get mates rates on the weed and they make a deal.
That’s how Robin, Vickie, Eddie, Chrissy, Jonathan and Argyle all end up having the time of their life together in Los Angeles.
Eddie continues to try and make it as a musician, he manages to get work when some up and coming singers need a guitarist to record some instrumentals for them in the studio.
Robin studies fashion in college, she loves designing her own clothes and she’s constantly making clothes and dresses for Vickie and Chrissy and she ends up setting up her own fashion label, it’s not a huge brand but it sells well.
Vickie wants to write screenplays, she’s a film major and ends up working at a movie theatre while in college. Robin is incredibly supportive as it isn’t an easy industry to crack but Robin believe’s Vickie has the will and the passion to make it. It takes a few years, but when Robin gets a client who happens to be a film executive, she ends up putting a good word in for Vickie and the film executive tells Robin they would be interested in reading one of Vickie’s scripts and it ends up getting picked up by a studio.
Chrissy’s strongest subject in school is PE so I think she’d continue down that route through college and study something relating to sport, she’d work at the gym and eventually I think she’d set up her own personal trainer business, that eventually extends to her becoming a nutritionalist as well because I feel like through overcoming her ED she’d end up learning loads of health facts about foods and how to have a healthy relationship with food so she’d want to help pass that knowledge onto others.
Jonathan ends up studying photography and Robin kept hiring him to take pictures of her designs which Vickie and Chrissy would model and when Eddie mentions him to some of the up and coming singers he works with in the studio, Jonathan ends up getting a bigger more famous clientele and he ends up working in music photography, photographing some of the most famous musicians.
Argyle ends up studying graphic design and illustration and for his first big deal he ends up illustrating a series of children’s books because of his eccentric and colourful artistic style.
They’re all happy, healthy and successful and the three couples remain lifelong friends.

On September 23rd 1880, John Boyd Orr, Nobel Peace prize winner, was born in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire.
Boyd Orr is most definitely in the “probably one of most famous Scots you have never heard of.” club, although some will know his name being used as a University of Glasgow Building.
Born in Scotland in 1880, Boyd Orr got his first look at hunger and poverty after he graduated from Glasgow University in 1902 and started teaching school in a Glasgow slum. When he showed up on the first day of class, he was shocked to see that his students were clothed in rags and covered with lice. They were unable to concentrate on their lessons because they were weak and malnourished.
“I went home the first night feeling physically sick and very depressed,” he wrote in his 1966 autobiography As I Recall. “I had another look at the school the next day, and came to the conclusion that there was nothing I could do to relieve the misery of the poor children, so I sat down and sent in my resignation.”
Although he worked as a doctor for a brief period and served in World War I, Boyd Orr’s real passion was nutrition—one of the most exciting areas of research in the 1920s. Nutritionists had just discovered that vitamins were essential to human health, and that animals or people who didn’t eat enough vitamins would develop “deficiency diseases” like scurvy, beriberi, rickets and night blindness.
Boyd Orr was one of the first to establish the value of milk being supplied to school children, which led to free school milk provision in our primary schools, which all us Scots certainly benefited from.
He helped found the Rowett Research Institute in Animal Health in Aberdeen, Scotland, to study the importance of trace mineral elements in animal nutrition. His book, Minerals in Pastures, published in 1929, was one of the first to consider the role minerals played in animal health.
Always remembering those poor malnourished children in Glasgow, Boyd Orr began investigating the possibility of improving the health of the poor in Scotland with better nutrition. In 1931, he launched a dietary survey, which discovered that a third of Scotland’s population was unable “to purchase sufficient of the more expensive health foods to give them an adequate diet.” The results of this survey, published in 1936 under the title Food, Health, and Income, showed that the diets of the poor were lacking in minerals, vitamins and sometimes even protein and calories. “These diets may be sufficient to maintain life and a certain degree of activity, and yet be inadequate for the maintenance of the fullest degree of health which a perfectly adequate diet would make possible,” he concluded.
Boyd Orr believed that the health of these people could be greatly improved if they were only able to get enough milk and other protective foods. And the results of his survey were fresh on his mind when he made the dangerous wartime crossing of the Atlantic to attend a historic conference in the United States—the first-ever United Nations Conference on Food and Agriculture., after the war he became their first Director-General
Although his tenure in this position was short, he worked not only to alleviate the immediate post-war food shortage through the International Emergency Food Committee but also to propose comprehensive plans for improving food production and its equitable distribution–his proposal to create a World Food Board. Although the board failed to get the support of Britain and the US, he had laid a firm foundation for the new U.N. specialized agency.
In 1949 he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his scientific research into nutrition, donating the entire financial award to organizations devoted to world peace and a united world government.
In 1960 he became the co-founder and the first President of the World Academy of Art and Science
John Boyd Orr died near Edzell, on June 25th, 1971.

Tell us about their mum please
Birdswap gaster, canary, is the youngest (living) gaster at only 217 years old. She’s a thin tall skeleton monster with dual colored magic in a soft grey and canary yellow. Her wings reflect that and look like a parrots bit with the same combination of feathers.
Canary came from a rather dysfunctional home where her father constantly cheated on her own mom, causing the monster to instill in their daughter the importance of settling young so that she doesn’t end up with a dissatisfied mate. Canary jumped into relationships too quickly but got lucky with her first mate and husband, Shane. Shane was a human from the neighboring tribe and a honorable man. When his fling (canary) got pregnant, he married her and they had a comfortable relationship for almost six years. It was a fishing accident that killed him. He had gotten caught tangled in pond weed when retrieving a catch and drowned before anyone noticed.
Heartbroken at loosing the human she thought she had a future with and scared of raising mango all on her own, canary jumped from relationship to relationship till she finally landed on Nefree, a large domineering wind elemental. He was terrible to her, abusing her one minute then love bombing her the next to keep her in line. Her fear of being alone kept her making excuses for his behavior. And once mango was 11, she fell pregnant with her second child papaya. Feeling secure that canary would never leave him with another on the way, nefree turned his aggression on mango, snapping canary out of it. She took her daughter and ran away from her ex.
Canary struggled by with raising two kids on her own till the crash. Papaya was only 15 when it happened, and mango was 28. Her and mango jumped right into the work force while papaya was put into school. They didn’t have much, but they had each other. Canary made mistakes in the past, but she owned up to them and is humble enough to try and work on her issues which is more than enough for her kids
Canary is a clingy and jumpy monster. But also a sweetheart and a real people pleaser. She’s generous and caring, and is a real humble character. She admires her kids and their bravery and couldn’t be prouder of them.
She didn’t have a formal education in her old au, she could read and write but that was it. She was just a simple housespouse at the time. But since getting access to all of the worlds knowledge, she’s become real studious, especially when it comes to anatomy. The human body and it’s digestive system fascinates her, and now that she’s stable, she’s considering going to school to get a degree in biology. Specifically a nutritionalist. Right now she works as a bartender at a local dance club.

Not diagnosed but I do go to a nutritionalist that specialises in eating disorders.
I've been struggling with disordered eating for 12+ years. Never got help for it. I have an interest for psychology so I know exactly how bad this is and what will happen when I start to eat again you don't need to tell me that.
I am not pro and encourage people to recover if they want that encouragement. If not, it's not my issue to comment on.
This is just a way for me to vent since I see my therapist once a month.
I will follow u back!

Been looking into Candida cleanses so much but most of what I see is about it starving the Candida and is more applicable to if you have a yeast infection rather than my situation of having endometriosis where my body naturally overproduced and reacts to estrogen so I'd have to pretty much live on a Candida diet permanently which is like no spicy, no dairy, no to most fruits, no sugar at all even natural like honey or maple, no red meat, no shell fish, no starchy vegetable and limited carbs and just is in general incredibly restrictive on top of that I am already gluten free and it makes me have to slow down and go - who is this for?
There's soooo many influencer nutritionalist who make mostly Candida content but I think it leaves out that avoiding carbs and a lot of the stuff that would need cut out isn't necessarily good for your body in other ways even if it does starve the Candida
And it's not like yeast serves no purpose in our bodies or immune systems - it's just a matter of overgrowth. And it seems like most of the approaches I see don't feel sustainable long term and they also really promote fasting which is something I am personally super against if you've had an eating disorder, especially when you don't live a slow paced relaxing lifestyle and are on your feet.
It just sucks to feel like even in a wealth of knowledge that exists online - so much of it is about selling something to you, whether a product or a lifestyle and it's so gross

Know what life sucks ... *trigger warning*
Inflation, not being paid a livable wage, lack of support, financial barriers, racism, ableist, sexist, privilege and so many more.
I'll like to talk a bit about my financial barriers.
I'm disabled and not able to work due to the extent of my disabilities. I have applied to long term disability in my country but was denied as it "isn't as bad as terminal cancer." I also need to provide more evidence that it is a long term disability and that I've tried all options to recover.
The downfall is age, how your doctor fills out the forms and they don't want to give you money if they deem you "not eligible". But in my opinion if your doctor is signing these forms why wouldn't you be eligible. Clearly this doctor who monitors and provides treatment plans (potentially involving specialists also) thinks it is appropriate to fill out these documents.
I am in pain, not just mentally but also physically. Being disabled, having to fight for yourself and jump through hoops is incredibly exhausting. Especially when involving the fact you may not have the privilege to access the required care.
But instead of helping we get medically assisted suicide.
To this I say bullshit. Living in this world has taught me how horrible some people can be and others either do nothing to help or your unable to help yourself. This lack of support and access is killing people. In this country the only option to peace if your in this situation is "medically assisted death."
This cannot be continued. It is not only open to terminal people but also those with mental disabilities. We are loosing so many to these horrible choices we are giving. Either suffer or die.
Can you wake up please. People are dieing.
Broken is the world and anytime I advocate for better I'm told. "It is nothing more then a dream". But it is not just a dream, infact if we can explain to others we could make this a reality. Unfortunately this "it's only a dream" or "in a perfect world" ... will never lead to the needed changes for our survival.
Speak up, disabled or not. People with disabilities need advocacy, empathy, respect, access and so much more.
Currently I face a barrier of lack of accessibility due to low income. This income is barely enough, it also doesn't provide me vision, hearing, nutritionalist and many others.
I have human rights cases fighting for our rights but it isn't enough. People are homeless and dieing. Most people with privileges don't experience life the same. What if you lost all your wealth. Wouldn't you too want to be able to rest easy knowing you won't be in medical debt.
Too many of times have I said I finally have a way out if I need. But it makes healing that much worse.
But here we are living in this horrible place we call "home" where money is the key to survival. But yet welfare and minimum wage are not liveable, barely even survivable. The rich don't care, no help for the ones who truely need help.
Why is our health and survival in the hands of rich?
Think about others, help when you can and ask for help when you need it.
💜 We need to work together, we are in this together.💜

AA: ♡♡♡ U-Uhm... I really enjoy uhm... variety? Though ah... meat is definitely in every meal, with a good amount of greens to go with it! I keep the carbs nice and low, they serve more as a condiment, which helps to prevent you from crashing after your meal! ♡♡♡
AA: ♡♡♡ Fish and eggs are also great sources of protein, though I end up using them a lot less, I guess. Not intentionally. I guess I'm just more used to using eggs for desserts. I love baking! ♡♡♡
AA: ♡♡♡ Would you perhaps like some cookies I've made? They're my recipe! And they're sugar free, eheheh! ♡♡♡
