Okay but also the “I’ll teach you” feels like such an important shift in Mizu’s mindset; especially the way the decision is coupled with leaping out the window away from very likely death like, for this character who has had no great care for their own health all season, as demonstrated by barely going a single episode without being very badly injured, and precious little care for life, so long as they are alive to meet their ends, this choice feels like a very important shift

Life Tracker updated for Episode 7! This one is much quicker than Episode 6 on account of not being on holiday at the time, even though there were two thirds more deaths this time. Previous posts: Session 6, Session 5, Session 4. Also Session 8 (finale) post!
As usual, close ups and commentary below the cut. I’ve also added another graph for the average time of each team, which will also be below the cut.
There was so much carnage! 45 whole deaths in a single session! Not all deaths were awarded time during the session, but Scott’s video advised that it would be added by next session, so I have taken the liberty to add all the time as I see fit, hence why Scott is back to 7.5 hours. I haven’t seen every episode yet (in fact, other than Scott, I’ve only seen those that have perma-died), so I’m not sure if anyone else’s time is a mismatch, but if so I’m happy to explain where I’m getting my time additions and subtractions from!
Now for some close ups.
First, there was enough chaos that I decided to take a close up of Session 6 and 7 together so we can properly appreciate it:
Tumblr media
And a close up of Session 7 by itself:
Tumblr media
So many people lost major time, so it’s interesting to see Scott’s uptick of time at the end - he ended on only 30 minutes less than he would have been if he hadn’t died at all this session. Pearl didn’t die at all, and got the kill credit for Martyn blowing himself up in a trap, so she actually ended the session 30 minutes better than she started it. Grian also did very well for himself - he killed and died so many times, but somehow ended on the exact time he would have been on if he had experienced a peaceful deathless session.
BigB, Cleo, and Martyn all ended the session 1 hour poorer than they started, and Bdubs and Scar ended 1.5 hours below where they would have been. Nosy Neighbours are thus doing super well, with Mean Gills and Clockers not too far behind, in terms of maintaining position from the start of the session.
TIES had an awful time this session, with Impulse and Tango both losing a net 2 hours, and Etho and Skizz losing a net 2.5 hours - and obviously Skizz entirely died.
Joel possibly had the worst time, losing a net 3.5 hours this session - though it didn’t help that 5 of his 7 deaths were all caused by the one person. Technically Jimmy didn’t do too badly, given he only lost a net 1.5 hours... but given that he was out of the series only an hour into the session, and also the first out entirely... it really didn’t go well for him either
I also find it interesting the sheer number of vertical lines this graph, the ones representing a death immediately followed by a kill or vice versa. I would love to figure out a way to show only one line at a time on the graph, so we can more easily see someone’s journey, but I haven’t had time to look into it yet.
Now onto the graph of the average times per team.
Tumblr media
This one is super interesting to me, especially TIES’s line - they had the lowest average life right from the start, but somehow by Session 4, through Session 5, and for most of Session 6, they were the team with the highest average time, and then it quite literally went downhill from there. The only thing saving them from being last now is the fact that the Bad Boys are down to only a single living player, and even then Grian is doing far better than most of TIES.
It’s also interesting to me how Mean Gills had a significant time uptick at the end of both Session 6 and Session 7 (the first due to Martyn and the second due to Scott). Scott’s time was so high that it kept Mean Gills’ average time as yellow for all of Session 6 despite Martyn being red for most of it... and Martyn then got enough kills to keep it there. Mean Gills is also the only team in the entire graph to anywhere gain such consistent significant time.
These averages also coincide with the comments I made above about the time offset difference for each player from the start to end of the session. Mean Gills are doing well, but they’ve been doing well for so long that I’m sure most players are aware that they need to be a target. Nosy Neighbours are also doing well but I feel like they’ve flown under the radar, and are not a significant target right now.
Here is a close up of this graph with Sessions 1-4:
Tumblr media
And the close up for Session 5-7:
Tumblr media
And the Session 7 only close up:
Tumblr media
I kept the dead players in the teams’ averages, since I think it is a better reflection of the teams’ strength as a whole, but I also created a version that excluded dead players. In those screenshots you can really see Bad Boys’ and TIES’ time jumping up at a death, instead of falling as it did here.
Here are the alternate averages graph:
Tumblr media
And close ups:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This makes Bad Boys look a lot better, because Grian does have a lot of time... but he is also alone. And there is definitely strength in numbers. Two players at an hour and a half each can fend off an attacker more easily than a single player at three hours can... unless nerves and panic get to them, as we definitely saw this session.
Wow and I almost forgot to include the raw data for this session!
The first hour of the session:
Tumblr media
The second hour of the session:
Tumblr media
There is just so much death! Look at all the box outlines!! I could barely fit this data on two screens on the zoom I was on, and I did not want to zoom out further.
I also obviously have data for the averages, but it was too far away from the column with the times on it that I wasn’t sure if it would still be useful on its own? Let me know if you want to see it!
This has once again been fascinating to see, and I cannot wait to see how Session 8 will go. Will it be the last session? Will they go until everyone is dead? Will they somehow have enough people with enough time to get to Session 9? Will Mean Gills be the final two and get to play fun relaxing games like Scott was suggesting?
Only time will tell.

Pre-Joseon Sageuks: a Biased and Incomplete List
So, as promised way earlier, a post on pre-Joseon sageuks that I’ve either watched or plan to watch so am aware of them. I am sure there are others but here is what I got. Obviously my takes on them are subjective blah blah blah.
Jumong - arguably the Daddy of all Traditional Sageuks, this one ran for over 80 episodes and had insane ratings. It follows the rise of the mythical founder of Gogureyo tho it takes fantastical elements of his story and changes them for historically plausible ones. It’s very long and very meaty and politics/battle heavy and has a large cast of complex characters (including pretty nifty women and a LGBTQ supporting OTP) but it is anchored by the incredible performance of Song Il Gook as the titular character as he slowly but believably grows from nothing to a hero if at the cost of losing his marriage.
The King of Tears Lee Bang Won - this is basically a half and half beast as (you can tell by the title), it’s set in the last days of Goryeo and early days of Joseon. The time period covered is the same as in My Country and Six Flying Dragons, but this is the most traditional take of them all, even more so than 6FD. Not a single pretty face in the cast (tho Joo Sang Wook is a mighty fine man, emphasis on “man”), this is for the real fans of traditional sageuks. I enjoyed it a lot but if you want to check out pre-Joseon sageuks but have mainly watched youth sageuk stuff before, you should probably start with another drama on this list.
The Great Seer - set in the reign of King Gongmin, the last proper king of Goryeo (his son King U is technically the very last but there are questions as to his status), this is for those of you who want to watch Ji Sang in a sageuk. It’s centered around seers but don’t expect mysticism, this knuckles down to politics.
Shin Don - hi there, another story set in the reign of King Gongmin! From the title, you can tel it centers heavily on the powerful monk who ruled for the King at one point. This has been on my to-watch list forever because this appears to devote a decent chunk of its time to Gongmin X Noguk and I am dying for a proper drama for those two. This is from 2005 so if you do watch, keep that in mind in terms of visuals etc. That cast is lit!
Bicheonmu - this is sort of cheating because it’s pretty much set in China but it involves Koreans so. It’s a drama take on the same story told in a pretty awesome movie. Tragic love, battles, young Joo Jin Moo etc. i am very fond of it. This said, find and watch the Chinese version, Korean one was shredded.
The Iron Empress/Empress Cheon Chu - set in Goryeo, this was another of women ruler centric dramas that had a mini popularity peak in late 00s/early 10s (a trend I wish continued.) it got overshadowed by Queen Seonduk but by all accounts is a solid drama. It’s on my list but I haven’t watched it yet.
The King’s Daughter, Soo Baek Hyang - by the writer of The Rebel and My Dearest. Have I got your attention? Another woman centric ruler tale set in Baekje. Yes, there is a love story. That cast is great, to boot. I have started and liked what I’ve seen but got sidetracked. Need to get back to it. Before you look at the ep number and faint seeing the number 108, keep in mind that the eps are half an hour long so it’s an equivalent of a normal 54 ep sageuk so if you can watch eg Empress Ki, you are good with this.
My Country: The New Age - Lee Bang Won but make it gay. OK, I kid, sort of (not really) but this is smart and passionate and heartbreaking. If you want a wide scope or lots of politics, probably not a take for you (Six Flying Dragons is RIGHT there), but if you want an intense, emotional tale, come right in!
Six Flying Dragons - to me, this is THE drama about Lee Bang Won. It’s smart and emotional, deals with politics and has heart. It has a large cast of characters I got invested in, OTPs that will blow your mind etc etc.
Faith/The Great Doctor - if you are a fan of old school shoujo like Red River, Basara or Fushigi Yuugi, this or Moon Lovers are your best bet on this list. A time traveling tale with other fantasy elements about a modern day plastic surgeon who ends up being kidnapped into Goryeo during the early days of King Gongmin’s (hi!) reign by a tormented, oath bound warrior played by Lee Min Ho at his hottest (and playing historical General Choi Young. Do RPS at your pleasure), this one is one of my all time favorites.
Seodonyo/Ballad of Seo Dong - I am actually currently watching this one tho I haven’t been posting about it. Set in both Baekje and Silla, this is an angsty love story with a side of politics. It’s filmed in 2005 and looks accordingly but if you don’t mind dated visuals, this is pretty great!
Emperor of the Sea - set in Silla and Tang, this was a huge hit and deservedly so. Our protag is a slave and gladiator and a great naval hero. This is grim and smart and epic. It’s from 2004 so once again, if dated visuals are no-go, skip, but if you want a great story and performances, this has your name on it.
The Kingdom of the Winds - an epic cursed prince narrative, our ML (Song Il Gook at his sexiest) rises from abandoned prince and slave and abused assassin to general, royal and king, sparing time for an angsty delicious love story with an enemy princess. This has serious sageuk bits AND the best shoujo tropes in the business, plus enough whump to keep anyone happy.
Gye Baek - Lee Seo Jin, another sageuk stalwart, stars as the title character in this tale of a Baekje commoner, war slave and general. This is grim but glorious.
Soldier/God of War - this is a traditional war-centric sageuk and grim as hell. Another slave to general tale.
King Geun Chu Go - this is on my watch list; it’s about a warrior king of Baekje. Haven’t seen it but heard good things.
Ja Myung Go - smart and unrelentingly tragic, featuring Jang Ryeo Won and Jung Kyung Ho as doomed lovers and Park Min Young in an evil role, this is great and has deeply flawed characters in the very definition of doomed by the narrative tale.
Arthdal Chronicles - this is obviously a fantasy but the tale of prophesied twins, magical priestess, wars and mysticism is clearly set in a pre-Joseon in terms of aesthetics world.
Alchemy of Souls - like Arthdal this is pure fantasy but also like Arthdal, a lot of its styling is pre-Joseon so on this list it goes.
Moon Lovers/Scarlet Heart Ryeo - ok I think if people have heard of only one drama on this very long list, it’s probably this one. Modern time traveling heroine ending up during the reign of Goryeo’s King Taejo, in the middle of his sons’ fight for the throne, having an epic but doomed romance with shoujo catnip tortured bad boy Lee Jun Ki.
Shine or Go Crazy - if you want a more historical take on Moon Lovers succession fight but still with plenty of hotness, angst and doomed romance, come right in. This baby stars Jang Hyuk, so you know it’s bound to be good. I actually started it and enjoyed it but got sidetracked. Need to get back to it. Fun fact: while Moon Lovers was hugely popular internationally, domestically Shine or Go Crazy (they aired around the same time), did much better.
The Legend/The First King’s Four Gods - for a long time this was my favorite kdrama of all time and is still probably in my top 10. Ignore the odd first episode, the rest is perfection. Expensive and wonderfully written, this was Bae Yong Joon’s last drama before he retired to rest on his pile of money (if you are young, you probably don’t remember what a big deal he was, bigger than all the Hallyu stars nowadays put together. He basically was singlehandedly supporting the kdrama industry at one point), but what a worthy way to go out. It’s an epic Goguryeo fantasy tale of a prophesied prince coming into his own, with such amazing characters and relationships and OTPs and battles and points about destiny versus free will. It is everything and I kinda want to rewatch now.
The Blade and The Petal/Sword and Flower - ostensibly a star-crossed Gogureyo love story, this really is more about politics. It’s a mixed bag. The visuals are insane but Uhm Tae Woong, while always solid in modern dramas, is out of place in a sageuk (in QSD Kim Nam Gil stole his thunder; there is nobody to do so here but that doesn’t help him.)
Queen Seon Duk - probably the most famous entrant into female power sageuks, this was a mad hit and centered on the titular character’s rise to power and fight for the same with her female nemesis Mishil. If you want love stories, angsty fighter Bidam propelled Kim Nam Gil to stardom as he stole the leading man mantle from Uhm Tae Woong.
Empress Ki - currently rewatching this. It’s set in the waning days of Goryeo but takes place mainly in Yuan. Still, the FL is Korean and a lot of the story revolves around one of her suitors’, a deposed Korean king, attempts to get his land back. As you can tell by my rabid posts, this is a great drama - politics, romance (I ship FL and the Yuan emperor like mad), murder, dysfunction and everything good.
Hwarang - it’s so brain dead it might as well be a brain-eating amoeba in drama form but it did give us both Park Hyung Sik and Park Seo Joon before they made it big in drama world. It’s terrible tho, stay away.
River where the Moon Rises - I have such a love/hate relationship with this drama - I loved the beginning, with our tormented assassin heroine slowly being warmed by the loyal rustic ML with his own trauma. And then Ji Soo’s bullying scandal happened and he was replaced by Na In Woo, aka the actor I like least from any country in all my close to two decades of watching dramas. I tried but I simply couldn’t and I am still mad. This said, if you don’t share my NIW allergy, it’s probably worth a watch.
The Great King’s Dream - if you liked QSD and can’t get enough of the period but want an even more traditional tale, you can do worse than this drama. I liked what I saw but this baby is 70 eps and lacks Bidam so I peaced out. Maybe I will get back to it sometime, but probably not.
Jeong Do Jeon - as you can tell by the title, centers on JDJ and the last days of Goryeo. Not really my bag (time period been done plenty in other dramas and I don’t have that much interest in JDJ) but supposed to be solid.
My Only Love Song - a short silly mess but still probably better than River (which tells the same story) because it doesn’t have NIW.
King Gwanggaeto the Great - 92 eps. I can’t!
The King Loves - delicious love triangle (that goes ALL ways), angst, prettiness, a side of bodyguard romance. What’s not to love in this Goryeo tale?
ETA: this post was so long that when I tried to tag every drama I mentioned, tumblr told me you hit the tag limit of 30 tags no more tags for you. Oh well, sorry dramas that ended up I tagged!

I haven’t watched today’s episode yet but I’m a sucker for spoilers so I know what happened. I know there can obviously be fuckups at hospitals, but you’re telling me that the hospital in Germany would just let Eun-seong be with Hae-in after her surgery? Especially when it’s someone they’ve never seen with Hae-in before? Especially when they know Hae-in would most likely lose her memories and be in a vulnerable state? Especially when Hae-in made a considerable donation to the hospital? Especially when the lawyer husband they have seen a lot had previously threatened them with a lawsuit? Like, for those last two factors alone, I’d be taking such good care of Hae-in if I were that hospital.

Permission Granted 1- New Girl
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: This is the first chapter of Permission Granted, the first part of To Have it All. This is Open...from Jensen's side!
Summary: Jensen meets Y/n, the new guest star on Supernatural. There's an instant connection, but a dozen reasons not to pursue it.
Pairing: none yet, eventual Jensen x Reader
Word count: 4354
Story Warnings: none really, little bit of Y/n's shitty self esteem peeking through
~~~~
"They're replacing Ruthie quick, aren’t they?" I commented to Jared as I read over Dabb's email in the Hair and Makeup trailer. "Wonder why they didn't just bring Rowena back."
"Fresh face, probably. I dunno. You know Dabb's always looking for new female characters to kill off." Jared shrugged and took a drink of his froufrou iced latte.
"Oh, if we're lucky, maybe she'll be a lesbian so they can leave her broken in a bathtub," I said, rolling my eyes as they started blow drying Jared's hair.
"Or a fuckin’ love interest so they can kill her off in two episodes," he shouted over the sound of the dryer.
"Shoshanna got more than two."
"Barely, Ackles! She got two and then forty-five seconds of a death scene!”
I nodded and licked my lips. Yeah, they had to kill her off. Every fuckin’ time. “Well, maybe this one won’t go the same direction.”
I settled back and read over the rest of the email. Damn it. They’ve got Dean on the ‘Kill Jack despite the fact that the kid hasn’t done anything wrong’ track. Of course they do. Have they ever watched the show? Whatever.
It was a couple days later that I was sitting in the makeup chair and a short woman walked up the steps and stopped in her tracks. She's not the first guest to freeze when they see me the first time but she was definitely the cutest doing it. I didn’t call attention to her 'deer in the headlights' thing as she stood in the doorway, clearly debating leaving until she looked at her phone screen and determined that she had to stay.
She had to get herself comfortable with me somehow. As fun as it can be to tease the new girl, professionalism is the best way forward for most of these situations. I determined to tease her when she got a little more comfortable.
She sat down in the stylist’s chair and looked down at her phone, obviously trying to distract herself with something more than Jennifer doing her hair. It was pretty adorable. She was pretty adorable. But...I had to start the task of getting her okay.
“You must be our new witch,” I said. She made a little squeaky noise and I could see her eyes glaze over a little in the mirror. “I’m Jensen.” Normally, I would have offered my hand but we weren’t in the position for that.
“I know that,” she whispered, making me chuckle as she cleared her throat and turned a little to look at me as much as she could. “I’m Y/n. Big fan.”
“Yeah?”
“Yep. Uh, I used to watch Days with my mom, but I think I became a real fan with Smart Alec on Dark Angel,” she said and I smiled. Eric Brady and Alec McDowell. Two amazing characters. I really liked Alec. Jessica could’ve been less of a prima donna but I guess she could’ve been worse, too.
“That feels like a million years ago. That show was badass, though,” I mused. “Fox shoulda kept it longer.”
“Agreed,” she said, smiling all shy. She looked so fucking nervous, so I had to move the conversation along.
“So...fan of mine...have you seen much of this show or are we gonna have to give you context for scenes?” I teased. She seemed to relax a little, slumping in her chair.
“Might’ve been a fan of you longer, but I love the show. Seen almost every episode.”
Better than me. I haven’t seen half of ‘em. “Almost every episode? What kinda fan are you?”
“Do not question my nerd cred, sir,” she sassed me. “I’m a fan, big time. I even went to a Creation Con late last year, just to see you guys up close.”
I laughed a little at that. The cons are great, but I really don’t think we’re worth all that money just to see us in person. “Yeah? Gold?” I had to figure out how devoted a fan she actually was. It would determine my interaction moving forward.
“Silver. I was working retail at the time,” she responded, shaking her head a little. “Couldn’t reconcile dropping a thousand dollars on a vacation.”
I was happy to hear that she kept her crazy to reasonable levels. “Oh, so we met in the autograph line.”
“Yep,” she said, popping that ‘p’ like vocal directors hate so much and looking away from me in the mirror.
There was obviously a story there, so I pressed her. “What’d I sign for you?”
“A hat. A white hat...with a devil’s trap in the middle and SW and DW on opposite sides.”
Crazy as it is, I remembered the hat, but the conventions all blur together so I couldn’t tell where I met her. “Which con was this?” I asked.
“Atlanta,” she answered quickly.
A one-off con. That helped, because I only had one night of memories to sift through. White hat, shaking young woman who could barely speak to me and definitely couldn’t look me in the eyes. I remember my handler getting up after she walked away, came back a minute later to say that Y/n had almost passed out as soon as she got outside the curtain. “Oh, yeah, I remember. I tried to sign Jared’s side but you wouldn’t let me.”
Y/n turned to look at me, obviously shocked with those pretty eyes all wide. “You were doing it on purpose? I thought you were just tired and not paying attention.”
“Nah, I was exhausted in Atlanta, but you looked mortified. I was trying to make you laugh.” Obviously failed on that. I chuckled again as Jennifer started curling her hair. “You seem a lot more put together now.”
She scoffed and rolled her eyes just a bit. “I’m mortified now too, but I saw you and Jared were gonna be on Lot today so I took an Ativan before I got in the car this morning.” Always nice when people are honest and open about their anxiety problems.
“Well, that’s good. Take a double dose tomorrow,” I teased as Trisha pulled the makeup drop cloth and I stood, looking down at her as panic crossed her face.
“What? Why?” she squeaked.
I could tell she hadn’t been given the pages for our scene the next day. I couldn’t resist a little torture. I just laughed as I left the trailer. “You’ll see when you get tomorrow’s pages.” I met Jared on the Bunker set and he patted my shoulder as we walked up into the library. “First meeting with the new girl went well. She seems a little out of her element but nice overall.”
“Oh, uh, Y/n?”
“Yeah, she is a fan, actually. We met her at the Atlanta convention. She had that Devil’s Trap hat.” Jared shook his head. He didn’t remember her. “She’s the one that tripped or whatever right after I signed her hat.”
“Oh, the one that fuckin’ fainted?”
“Yeah, I think so. She’s still uncomfortable so we’ll have to warm her up.”
“‘Warm her up’, huh?” Jared raised his eyebrows suggestively and I laughed.
“Not like that, you dummy.”
Of course, Y/n was cute, but messing around with the guest stars was a bit of a no-no, and messing with fans was a big no-no. Especially considering that there’s almost nothing to keep a fan from talking...and the open marriage thing needed to stay quiet.
But I was curious about her. Can’t lie about that. So, I asked around. I went to a few other crew members before I went to Andrew Dabb.
“You remember that casting call we did toward the end of eleven? We got a few of the British Men of Letters off of it?” He leaned back in his chair and looked up at me. “We opened it up for a few folks without representation for a couple weeks. CW didn’t advertise it but we did a post on a few acting sites and there was a bit of circulation once the fandom got a hold of it. She sent a video in. She wasn’t right for the Brits, not posh enough, but her accents were good and she was a pretty great actress, so...”
“So, she isn’t an actor?”
“She’s been doing pretty well for the fact that she hasn’t acted in anything before.”
I blinked at him a few times. “Wow. So, she’s completely green?”
“Technically, yeah. But the second unit directors say she’s doing good.”
“Cool. Thanks.” I started to leave but stopped at the door. “So, what’s the track on her character? She stickin’ around?”
“She’s on for five episodes.”
“Is she going to bite it after those episodes?” I pushed.
“We’re not exactly-”
“Is she a love interest? Is she gonna disappear without a trace? Will she at least get an actual storyline?”
Andrew rolled his eyes at me and shifted in his chair. “I don’t know if she’s going to be a love interest. The writers’ room is in disagreement about that. She’d be a good match for Dean, but we’re not sure how the viewers would react. They never really like it when Dean and Sam have women in their lives.”
“So, you don’t even know. Okay.” I was not impressed with that answer so I left him in his office.
I went looking for her at lunchtime, a little after 1. She was sitting at a table in the Craft Services tent, in the corner by herself, looking down at a paper coffee cup. She was really good at making herself small and seemingly insignificant...but it had the opposite effect on me. It made me want to talk to her more. I grabbed a coffee for myself and a caramel macchiato for Jared from the coffee cart.
“So, I asked Dabb where we got you from and he said it was an open cast. You sent a video in but you’ve never done anything else. You don’t even have an agent.” I walked up and sat in front of her on the other side of the table. She looked up and her eyes went all wide. “So you just decided to become an actor in your twenties?” I guessed her age.
She bit her bottom lip for a minute before leaning forward. “No. I decided to become an actor in high school,” she disputed. She looked a bit disappointed as she continued. “I then graduated from high school and decided that it was a stupid dream and I’d never make any headway so I gave up on it and got a real job.”
She did say that she was working retail. “Retail. So where are you from, Y/n?” I took a drink of my coffee as she leaned back.
“Northwest Florida. Little town about fifteen miles from the state line.”
I smiled, remembering a Spring Break with Christian back in the 90s. “North Florida. I spent a couple Spring Breaks at PCB when I was...younger and unmarried.”
She gave a little laugh. “Panama City is about an hour and a half away from home.”
I took another drink, trying to think of something to keep the conversation going. “So you acted in high school, huh?” I asked as I saw Jared walk into the tent behind her.
“Yeah. School plays, Thespians, Forensics competitions, that kinda thing.” I heard about that competition shit from Jared. ‘Competition’ is the key word on that. Apparently, it’s harder than screen acting.
“You did Forensics?” Jared asked, his whole face lighting up. “I won Nationals with my friend Chris in high school.” He came over and folded himself backward into a chair. I handed him his coffee and he nodded at me.
“I did monos. Got second in State, but didn’t make Nationals.” She sounded a little disappointed, but shit, second in State is pretty damn good.
“I did monos, duos, and extemp, but I only placed in Duo. Jared,” he said, reaching out to shake her hand.
She looked a bit more comfortable with Jared and that made me feel a little bit jealous. I’m nice. I didn’t understand why she was awkward with me. “Y/n. It’s amazing to meet you.”
“Oh, he gets an ‘amazing to meet you’? I didn’t even get a handshake.” I covered the jealousy with a teasing comment.
Jared teased back before she could. “Well maybe I’m just more approachable, dude.”
“You? Giant muscley gym-bro?” I hit back.
“Honestly, I’m five-three so you’re both giants to me,” she joked with a laugh.
“So, Y/n, how long did they sign you for?” Jared asked.
“Five episodes to start. They said they’ll give me more or not depending on fan response. They’ll probably hate me, though, so I’ll be gone by midseason Hellatus.” ‘Hellatus’ made me smile.
“Why would they hate you?” Jared asked. “It’s not like your character is a love interest.” He looked between Y/n and me for a minute. “Wait, Tara’s not a love interest, is she?”
“Andrew said the writers are at an impasse on that one. No, the fans will hate her for one simple reason: jealousy.” I shrugged. “She’s a fan. Some of ‘em probably know her from, like cons and shit. They’re gonna be jealous that she’s here and they aren’t.”
She nodded. “Yeah. I’ve kinda tried to keep a lid on this from the fan groups. Haven’t told anybody except the family and my best friends about it. Unfortunately, had to stop posting in my Facebook groups when I got the job.” I cringed a bit at the mention of the Facebook groups. Fan groups are a subject best ignored as much as possible.
Jared laughed. “Man, you seem like a reasonable woman so don’t be offended when I say...some of our fans are crazy. You’re better off staying away from the fan sites.”
She smiled. “No, I know how crazy some of us can be. I’ve had some fights online with the tin-hat folks.”
I know I grimaced when she mentioned those folks. Jared did, too. “What is wrong with those people?” Jared shook his head.
She started laughing and it was such a cute, uninhibited sound. “They just...really want you to be gay for each other.”
“Yeah.” She was definitely comfortable and I wanted to take full advantage of it. “So, uh, you get tomorrow’s pages yet?” I asked, smirking. She looked down for a moment before hiding by drinking her coffee. “Yeah, she did. You gonna be okay? You’re not gonna freak out, are you?”
“I will…” She swallowed so loud I could hear it across the table. “...try my best...to not freak out.”
“You look like you’re already freaking out,” Jared said, smiling.
She took a deep breath and let it out as a scoff. “Totally. I am totally freaking out about tomorrow’s scene.”
Jared and I both laughed before I leaned forward a bit. “How about we run lines later?” That wasn’t a new thing for me. I often offer to run lines, especially with the guest stars. But the next words that came out of my mouth were new. “We could grab some dinner, meet up at my trailer, and get the nerves out of the way.”
I was just about to apologize for overstepping any bounds by inviting her to my trailer when she whispered, “That sounds...amazing.” It was this breathy, sexy voice coming out of this sweet woman and I just didn’t feel like I’d overstepped after that, even when she stuttered out, “I mean, it sounds amazing to get the nerves out of the-”
“6 o’clock. Don’t be late,” I said as Jared and I stood to get back to the Bunker.
“What am I gonna do? Go back to my motel to watch one of the ten channels that actually come through clearly?”
“They’ve got you in that Budget Inn, don’t they?” Jared guessed. We have heard a lot of horror stories about that motel.
“Yeah. It’s not so bad. Gotta sleep in the tub to avoid the bed bugs, but it’s cool. Livin’ the dream,” she joked and I laughed as we walked away.
"So...your trailer, Ackles?" Jared asked as we walked away, his eyebrow cocked.
"I'm just tryin' to be friendly, man."
"I know what your 'friendly' looks like and that was not just friendly."
"I just met her!" I argued. "And she's a guest...and a fan! I'm just trying to accommodate her nervousness so we don’t have to do a million takes tomorrow."
"Okay, well...I won't tell Dee, but you should-" I reached out and pushed his shoulder roughly and he laughed as he teetered a bit. "She seems nice, though. Don't scare her away."
I wasn’t planning to scare Y/n away. I wasn’t planning anything except hospitality. I really wasn’t. But she was cute and interesting and she was obviously incredibly attracted to me, so I couldn’t do anything anyway because that might get awkward quick.
No, I was just gonna make a new friend out of the new girl. I’ve done it a bunch of times before. I mean...look at Misha.
She showed up about half an hour early and watched us flub a few takes of this argument between Sam and Dean about Jack and it was fun to watch her expression get more awed with every take. Phil cut us for dinner after a while I jumped down from the soundstage, smiling at the look on her face. “Well, hello, Newbie,” I greeted. “I’m thinkin’ pizza. You good with pizza?”
She nodded. “Yeah. Pizza’s fine.”
I walked away from her, trying to keep everything casual as we went off to my trailer. She ran after me and I slowed down a bit. I was used to Jared and Misha following me around the lot, so I had to consciously slow myself to make it easier for Y/n’s short legs.
“Any dietary restrictions? Lactose, gluten, vegan?” I asked, just to make sure that I wasn’t going to poison her by ordering a pie with pepperoni or something.
“It’s not a pizza without cheese and meats and…” Y/n shook her head and laughed. “I’m a Southern girl. We don’t deal with crazy…gluten-free, meat-free, paleo-vegan...blah, blah, blah,” she finished, gesturing with her hands in the air. It was adorable.
“I thought you were from Florida,” I argued teasingly. “Not really ‘Southern’.”
“And I thought you’d been to North Florida. You should know that Northwest Florida is pretty much UCLA: Upper Corner, Lower Alabama,” she responded and I laughed. Never heard that one before. “That’s not my joke.”
“It was pretty funny anyway. So, you like pepperoni?”
“Look at me. Do I look like I’ve ever turned down free food? Well, except lasagna, but got a...thing with lasagna.”
That threw me so hard I had to stop and turn to her. “What does that mean, you’ve got a thing with lasagna?” I asked.
“There was a bad thing with some really horrible microwave lasagna when I was about seven. Couldn’t eat it for years, now I can only eat it if I make it.”
There was a story there, but I wasn’t ready to push for it. “Wow. Okay. Do not order lasagna. Check.” I opened up the trailer and let her in, grabbing my phone off of the counter as soon as I got inside. I pulled up the speed dial for the closest good pizza place and went into the bathroom to change. It was a mix of teasing her and preparing her that I drove me to change my clothes. Well, change my pants into shorts and take the wardrobe shirts off. I wrapped a towel around my waist and checked in the mirror to make sure the shorts weren’t visible before setting the phone on the sink counter and grabbing the door handle. “Okay, pizza will be here in ‘bout forty, which gives us plenty of time to run lines,” I said, to get her attention before I’d opened the door, so she could get the full effect of my outfit.
Which got me exactly the dumbfounded look from her that I was expecting. She stared. And when I say ‘stared’, I mean it. Her jaw dropped, her eyes went focused and unfocused and roamed over me like crazy. Usually, I start feeling shy when women stare at me like that, but not with her. With Y/n, it felt less like objectification and more like appreciation.
“See, this is why we need to practice,” I said to snap her out of it. I smirked as she cleared her throat and looked off toward the fireplace before closing her eyes.
“Sorry.”
“No, you have to look at me, kid. It’s part of the scene.”
She sighed and looked over at me. “I’m not a kid. I have a kid. I’m a woman.”
“Then act like one,” I challenged.
She licked her lips, cleared her throat again and sat forward. “Please, do keep both hands on the towel, Winchester. One never knows where you hunters have hidden weapons.”
I went into Dean mode like the second nature that it is. “Tara. What do you want?”
“World peace, a condo in Malibu, and a little respect would be nice,” she said, confidence that was definitely not her natural mode leaking out of her. “I mean, I did save your asses in Chicago.”
“Yeah, that’s not how I remember it.”
She laughed out loud and stood. “Of course not. You can’t possibly admit that a witch helped you. I mean, a witch other than Rowena Macleod.”
“Yeah, your mentor, right? Explain again why I’m supposed to trust that you’re a white witch?”
“She wasn’t my mentor. She wasn’t allowed to be. Olivette wouldn’t let me. Shit! ‘Olivette wouldn’t let her’.” Her face fell as she pulled out her pages, obviously upset that she’d blown a single word in her line. “‘Olivette wouldn’t let her. We had to train in secret, but that doesn’t mean I carry her ideals’,” she read frantically.
I smiled as soothingly as possible. “Calm down. It’s a lot better to fuck up here with me than out there on camera. Don’t wanna end up on the gag reel, do you?” She shook her head. “All right. From the top.”
We made it through the scene completely on the second try and she said her lines like she was completely immersed in Tara’s character. It shocked me a bit, actually. No wonder Casting picked her out of a pile of video submissions. She hit those facial expressions and the overwhelming sense of ‘trying to do right without the right tools’ better than I could have imagined. There was so much pain in her eyes when she said, “Don’t trust me. Don’t like me. I don’t care” and it wasn’t even in the script to be anything but pissy.
She asked how well she’d done and I smiled as I pulled the towel off and tossed it across the room to land on the counter. She looked relieved to see my golf shorts. “You did great. You think you’ll be able to stay focused in front of the cameras?”
“Well, if I can manage to not drool all over myself staring at you when it’s just the two of us, I think I can keep my shit together in front of Phil and everyone else.”
I smiled as she carried some of her Tara energy over into her real life. “Ah, so you’re one of those fans,” I teased.
She scoffed loudly. “Oh, come on. You know how sexy you are.” She scrunched her face up in a grimace and looked away. “That was not what I intended to say.”
“Can’t take it back now,” I said, chuckling.
“Oh, how I wish I could,” she said, shaking her head. “Okay, so have they told you anything about the Chicago episode ‘cause I have no clue what’s going on with that. They haven’t given me anything on that.”
They do that sometimes, where they’ll forget to tell folks what’s going on in the episodes before. It’s part of shooting out of order, but it usually doesn’t affect the guests too much...and they almost always told me and Jared in advance. “Right, I’ve got a first draft script round here somewhere.” I went looking around the counter near the kitchenette to find the script and handed it to her. I’d already read it but I looked over her shoulder as she went through it herself.
“Oh, she...is very flirty, isn’t she?” she said when she got to the part where Tara said ‘If we were doing what I wanted, we’d be in bed not a warehouse’. She seemed a bit uncomfortable about it so I smiled and knocked my knee into hers.
“You can handle that, right?”
“Of course I can,” she defended.
“Good,” I said, getting up to retrieve the pizza from the PA knocking at my door. As we ate slices of floppy pepperoni pizza, she pointed out a line where Dean tells Sam ‘Tara was kinda hot in a Khloe Kardashian circa 2007 kinda way’. “Which means…?”
“That’s when she was the ‘fat’ Kardashian,” Y/n explained, looking down at herself a bit self-consciously. “She was still hot, I guess…’cause she knows how to make herself look good with the clothes and makeup and all the stuff money makes easy, but she was not considered the prettiest one.”
It seemed like a subject that made her sad, and I guess I could see that Y/n was what Hollywood considered ‘fat’, but I thought she was hot...and I didn’t like her feeling bad about herself. “Oh, so a chick likes to eat, so she’s not hot? Never understand that.”
“Me either,” she said, smiling as she took a big bite of her pizza.
I made her feel a bit better and that was exactly what I needed at that moment.
Hudson and Rex S06E08
Another good episode. As a disclaimer, I’ve had a pretty specific idea of how this episode should be like, so I went in a little bit negatively predisposed. Also, these aren't in order. Sorry.
I remember the dead guy. He was in the episode with Meghan Ory’s character, the first one of the two.
“He’s dead. Are you happy?” Calm down, ma’am, you’re giving him reasons to be stupidly self-sacrificing.
Joe: Charlie no. Charlie: Charlie yes.
“We’re going to transfer all the inmates I’ve arrested out of the prison.” You’ll… what… now?
“I’ll find your killer and get rid of your drug problem”. And also fix your plumbing (oh, wait), clean your laundry, and create a gourmet menu for your prison.
Okay they did find a good reason for Rex to be in there. I'd still have preferred Charlie alone in prison and Rex investigating on the outside.
I hate this hairstyle. There, I said it. However, it’s more fitting to prison inmate Chuck than what Charlie has had all season so far as a cop. Which has actually been tolerable as an image despite not fitting the character, and I refuse to spend more time on that because I keep seeing it being commented on and when this keeps happening, I feel bad.
I think I know the actor who plays Charlie’s prison bunkmate but I can’t place him.
Charlie displayed a lot of badassery in this episode. Also, I think John Reardon did some good work acting wise in this one.
Charlie said “I love you”, “babe”, “you’re the hottest woman I’ve ever seen”, “sweetheart” to Sarah, and all of that while he was undercover in prison and through the phone??? Who do I talk to about this? How was there not a better moment for this? It’s like they wanted to throw these words out in the open in the least romantic way possible.
The way I hate “babe” and yet every single couple I ship is using it… They’re lucky I’ve been desensitized since Castle.
And Sarah’s facepalm on the other end lmao. It’s obviously not the first “I love you” at least. I wonder what she calls him.
I liked the instrumental music for the prison scenes. It was very much on point.
Damn, they put him in solitary for 24 hours. This couldn’t have awakened any claustrophobic feelings from a) the freezer b) the cave collapse, c) the coffin he was buried in d) the containers that almost turned him into a pancake? Come on, guys. Also, do they or do they not have solitary in Canada? It can’t keep changing according to the season.
Sarah worried because her idiot almost died in prison. Charlie finally (I might pass out) having a moment of weakness? Saying that he misses Sarah and Rex? I did not think I'd live to see it.
Jesse saying that they'd pull out Charlie if it gets too dangerous… This is way too optimistic. Realistically, he would have gotten shivved before anyone could do anything about it.
Rex totally wanted to maul that guy for injuring Charlie. Once again, why can’t we see him baring his teeth? German shepherds have scary canine teeth, they’re not just cute and cuddly.
I liked Joe as a guard. And interrogating the suspect, getting a bit handsy with him.
Detective Jesse Mills. Doing interrogations. Detecting lol
Bringing back a bad guy from S1? Interesting choice. I barely remember the guy. And wasn’t that episode like a collective fandom hallucination or something? When Charlie mentioned the guy had killed a kid I was like, oh so we haven’t seen that case. That’s how much I don’t remember that episode.
“Lots can change in that time” Charlie, you’re squeaky clean, bud. You tried to be “bad” in S4 and lasted for like four minutes.
Also, in every show I’ve seen, once a cop enters prison, no one cares whether he’s a disgraced cop. They’d want to kill him either way.
Either they shot the scenes of the prison yard in one day or it was raining all the days they had those scenes. Very gloomy weather, it added a bit of extra grime to the episode.
“Do you want to read the letters with me?” Absolutely not. He wants to go back home, hug his girlfriend and have a hot shower to wash the prison off of him. Maybe this all happened off screen already. I don’t care. I didn’t see it so it didn’t happen.
I liked the episode. It didn’t go my way at all but it’s understandable. I wanted some more danger towards the end, as people were catching on to the fact that Charlie was a cop. Also, Charlie had way too much communication with the team, I know it doesn’t make sense for me to not want that, but it also doesn’t make sense for an undercover cop in prison to be able to be in touch with almost every member of his team throughout the episode. Did I want a Charlie and Sarah scene in the end? Absolutely.
Promo: That is a pretty lame promo for what should be a character centric episode. It looks like a complete filler, devoid of character moements. I hope it will be a character centric episode and not a filler NCIS episode (because Navy). Hopefully it’s just lousy promo editing and not a lousy episode. Interesting choice for Charlie’s dad. And I know people might hate me for this, but I’ll say it anyway. I did prompt a few storylines to an AI model about Charlie facing off his dad, and the AI would always, always have his dad call him Charles. Fucking hell.
There’s no way Sarah is not meeting Charlie’s dad, right? I need to be reassured.
Dude seems so dismissive of Rex that I hope Rex bites him. He should be allowed to bite family members who are being assholes.
FIONNA AND CAKE TRAILER + INTRO ANALYSIS PART 3
this part only focuses on one thing and is mostly speculation so if you’d rather something more concrete and evidence based this might not be for you
So i’d like to mention the weird shapes that cake turns into near the end of the intro, and the possible forshadowing they hold. Starting with these two because i’m honestly kinda lost on what they mean. Obviously one is an infinity symbol, which could symbolise how Betty and Simon’s struggle/inability to be together is like an infinite cycle, with one of them always being crazy/unreachable, or it could be something else, or even just a funky shape to include. The other one looks almost like a ghost? but i’m unable to think of any important ghost characters in adventure time, so either it’s a new character, not a ghost at all, or another funky shape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two make much more sense, with the left one being a snowman to symbolise The Winter King’s universe, and the right one being a bat to symbolise the vampire universe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slightly less clear, are these two. The left one looks almost like the scarab when in the weird more bug like form (from the end of episode 5) so that could be it’s meaning, and the right one could be an egg. My first thought was the baby universe (since eggs hatch into babies ig) but i think it’s more likely to be either something we haven’t seen yet or just a cool shape to fill time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This last one’s a bit of a strech but i think it symbolises Golb, hear me out-
Tumblr media
We frequently see golb associated with geometric shapes (typically made up of cubes) with these cube shaped holes in the wall of simons weird golb room, and while i don’t have a photo, many times when we see golb (both golb and golbetty forms) they are surrounded by several similar shapes.
Tumblr media
What does this mean? honestly i’m not sure, but it is more evidence pointing to an important golb appearance, likely an entire episode. I think i missed a few cake transformations in that scene, but i’m unable to play these things frame by frame so it8s not really something i can fix sorry. I made sure to get all the important ones however.
Thank you for reading my crazed ramblings and take this simon for you’re efforts
So I’ve been on a bit of a break which is why I’ve been pretty MIA, so sorry about that!  but I finally got to watch Season 7 of TNR and I can finally put my own review on it~! Please note that this contains spoilers, so if you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading here!
So I’ll start with my season issues before its good points. First off, the dragon secret is out to ICARUS and it was...incredibly lack luster. We had a 1 month time jump and the big reveal of dragons was rather...anti-climatic. I was really expecting a bit more from that, but oh well. Also, in the first episode, we get to finally see nadders, but they’re all hyper aggressive and it’s the only way we get to see them. They don’t show up again. Sad on that one. Next, of course is Thunder’s “alpha”-type thing he did to stop the nadders. I REALLY hope it was just a dominance stance as in “I’m tough and I’m being loud, so back off” and not “Thunder’s becoming the new alpha like Toothless” or else he is going to lose serious character points from me. It’d make literally no sense, especially since he nor his family are obviously alpha’s of all dragons and an alpha status isn’t some unlockable ability, it’s earned.
So the next thing and probably my biggest issue with this (especially those of you who know me will know I was going to have issues with this) BUT THEY KILLED THE FUCKING DEATHGRIPPERS. YES. THEY. KILLED. THEM. The deathgrippers are the ONLY dragons that got this treatment and that is actual bullshit. Oh, and if I hear literally anyone say “BUT THE DEATHRGIPPERS WERE BAD AND EVIL AND BLAH BLAH BLAH, my eyes are literally going to roll into the back of my head so far that I am going to make actual eye contact with the demon that controls the meat puppet that is my body. I don’t want to hear this comment because they are WILD ANIMALS and literally an animal cannot be good or evil please stop pushing that onto the dragons because that is an incredibly toxic and harmful way to view an animal species. So yeah, this alone knocked off a LOT of points from me because there was actually no reason for them to do this.
My 2nd biggest issue is OH MY GOD CAN THUNDER STOP BEING A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS. The whole poison dart episode was the worst and it was so eye rolling that I could hardly enjoy it. We get it, Thunder needs special attention and saved every other episode. Let’s move past it because it’s so boring that it’s starting to hurt his character for me.
My last big issue is that for a season that introduces the Realm of Giants, we...didn’t see the realm??? What was the point of that? We saw hardly any of it and though we got the Octofin and the Shellfire, we didn’t get to see much else. Of course, I didn’t get my bewilderbeast either, so that’s a bummer.
My last petty, but still an issue is that they’re starting to force this Tom and Jun romance. I’m not against there being a romance, especially for these two, but it’s starting to feel more like a “Hey, here’s a main male and female character, so let’s make sure they have apparent crushes on each other for reasons” instead of working up a more believable romance.
As for good points, characters outside of Tom are getting some good development and D’Angelo is quickly rising to my top favorite character. Jun, also being my least and actually disliked character starting out is starting to really build and I actually like her a lot more now. Also, the humor in this series has also gotten a lot better, too. I’m loving it.
I think the BEST points for this season are the villains, however. Actions are starting to have real consequences and are things that can’t be solved in just a single day with a teenager’s big idea. Also Buzzsaw is FINALLY worth having in the series. He’s becoming a much more formidable villain who is doing actual damage and thus making his time in the series much more interesting. The cliffhanger for the series is the best one so far. Sledkin is also becoming a very enjoyable villain instead of just the “shady co-worker”. And Dagur being canon means that RTTE is canon to TNR, so that is AMAZING.
All in all, I give this season a 7/10. It’s shaping up nicely, but the deathgripper deaths and thunder hurt it a lot.
Chapter 4: The Diner
“Stay?” You exclaimed, taking your wide eyes off of the road for a second to give Javier a look of disbelief.
“Of course she wants to stay.” Javier retorted. “Wouldn't you rather end up with Humphery Bogart than the other guy?” He searched his mind for the name, none popped up. Further convincing him that he in fact, was right.
The sun had set and the sky had turned a purplish hue and after a couple shifts and cat naps, what started off as a harmless conversation about Casablanca (courtesy of one of David Letterman’s talk show episodes) had turned into a heated disagreement.
Javier watched you pull into a parking space between two beaten up cars in front of an old, 24 hour diner with a disgruntled huff. Javier exited the car a few seconds prior to you, letting you fix a couple of stray strands of hair in the visor.
The diner was located at a rather run down pit stop, the kind you would usually stay away from, especially at this ungodly hour. But since it was located at one of your silly red crosses, you had to make a stop. Even through the window javier could make out the torn leather seats; the deep cherry red colour not as bright as it should’ve been.
“I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life, married to a man who runs a bar.” You exited, still riled up, making him tear his gaze away from the spotted window and onto you. “I know that sounds snobbish to you but-” You took a second to slap the car door shut.
“So you’d prefer a passionless marriage.” Javier calmly stated.
“-And I'd be the first lady of czechoslovakia.” You added.
“So you’d leave the man you’ve had the greatest sex of your life with simply because he owns a bar.”
“Yes.” You nodded after a second, bringing in your windbreaker towards your chest, shielding away the chill. “And so would any woman in her right mind. We’re all very practical- even Ingrid Bergman,” You turned towards him knowingly, “Which is why she gets on that plane.” You exhaled. “So there.”
“I get it,” Javier shrugged, thrusting his hands deep into his pockets and elongating his strides.
“You get What?” You retorted, scurrying after him.
“Nothing.” He shook his head, a hint of a smile on his face.
“What?” You droned, for the second time as the both of you reached the entrance to the greasy looking diner. The floor was chequered black and white, a thin layer of grime coating it and a jukebox in the far corner playing ‘Darlene’ by T. Graham Brown, the static getting in the way of most of the music.
“Obviously, you haven’t had great sex yet.” Javier stepped aside dramatically and held the door open for you. He watched you gape at him incredulously for a few seconds before un-creasing his brow and walking in first himself.
Javier had only been in the car with you for around twelve odd hours and he refused to believe that the woman who now stood scanning the shit pile diner for an acceptable booth, represented the wider population of women. Javier knew women. What you were, he had no idea.
You were far too meticulous and high strung to have had good sex. Too uptight. You had every hour of the eighteen hour drive planned out to a T and as he had seen earlier on your date and then more recently at lunch, you could take even the most simple orders and turn it into something complex and barely comprehensible. It was honestly quite shameless.
Even now, the minute you had arrived at the diner you forgot about your disagreement and previewed every single booth before choosing a ‘clean’ one to sit at. Even if you chose the other guy, (who Javier had figured out was Paul Henried) it wouldn't matter, there was no way he would last even a minute dealing with your uptight nonsense, forget Humphery Bogart.
He slumped into the leather seat of the booth, the material squeaking softly as he did so and watched you do the same, of course before inspecting the seat for unknown stains or residue.
“I've had brilliant sex, for your information.” Javier watched you pick up the menu and scan the contents. He leaned forwards in his seat, upper body resting on his forearms folded across the table.
“Tell me then.” he craned his neck over the line of the menu to get your attention. “Who did you have this brilliant sex with?” He watched you slam the menu down against the table and raise your eyebrows.
“I’m not going to tell you that.” you bit back. He leaned back into his seat, his tongue running along the bottom of his mouth while yours curled into an embarrassed frown.
“Fine, don’t tell me.” He swiped the menu from underneath your palms and lazily dragged his eyes across it. The Judds playing raspily in the background filled the silence.
The both of you turned towards an energetic ‘hi!’ and you smiled, ready to place your order. Your smile faltered when you saw the waitress drinking in Javier’s arms. She was very pretty with red lipstick that matched her checked apron and her luscious ebony hair falling down the length of her shoulder in fluffy curls.
“Hey there.” Javier said, bedazzling her with his charming smile. She caught her bottom lip between her straight teeth and changed her position, accentuating her chest.
“What can I get ya.” She smiled. Javier’s eyes left hers for a brief second and saw you rolling yours and busying yourself with another menu while he gave her his order; completely ignoring the events unfolding in front of you.
“I’ll have the number 3, and a black coffee, no sugar.” Javier turned back to the waitress and smiled. She then turned to you, not quite with the same smile. Javier adjusted his jeans and leaned back into his seat, extending his arms over the rim, waiting to hear what lengthy instructions you had in store this time.
And just like at the restaurant where he had first heard it, he couldn't help but be intrigued by the whole thing.
“I’d like the chef's salad please, but with the vinaigrette, not the honey mustard, on the side. And I'll also have your apple pie.”
“Okayy,” The waitress did a quick job of scribbling it down.
“Wait-” You said, putting down the menu and folding your arms across the table. The waitress half turned, raising a perfectly plucked eyebrow.  “I’d like the pie heated and I don’t want the ice cream on top, I want it on the side and I'd like a berry flavour if you have it, instead of the vanilla; if you don’t then no ice cream at all and whipped cream instead.” Just when the waitress thought you were finished, you started again, much to Javier’s amusement. “But, only if it's real, if it’s out of a can, then nothing.”
“Not even the pie?” The waitress
“No, just the pie, not heated.” You finished, as if she had asked the most stupid question.
“Uh huh.” The waitress ran her tongue against the roof of her mouth. She gave Javier one last longing look as she strutted away, hips and all.
Javier stared at you, trying to look for something he clearly couldn't find. His eyes broke away for a second, stealing a sneaky glance at your waitress behind the counter waving at him.
“What.” you asked and with the way you rolled your eyes, he guessed you got this look a lot at restaurants.
“Nothing, nothing.” He smiled as he leaned back into the leather. “It's just interesting that's all.”
“What’s interesting?” You arrowed your eyes in his direction.
“This is what I meant, in the car.” he leaned forwards suddenly. “This is why you’ve never had good sex.”
“My ordering?” You folded your arms across your chest and pursed your lips.
“Not just the ordering.” He said, “You’re far too meticulous to enjoy sex.”
“Shel Gordon.” You cleared your throat.
“Excuse me?”
“Shel Gordon is the great sex I've had.” You pronounced.
“Shel- Sheldon?” Javier snorted. “You did not have great sex with sheldon.”
“Did too.” You retorted.
“Sheldon is your income tax guy, not your sex guy.” Javier shook his head.
“Your salad.” The waitress slid a plate carelessly onto your side, “And the number 3.” she smiled, lowering the plate onto Javier’s. “Let me know if you need anything else.” The waitress drawled seductively, running her fingers across the table as she made her way to the next table.
“It’s the name,” Javier continued, “it just doesn't work.” He bit into his fries.
“That’s the most ridiculous thing I've heard.” You dug into your salad, looking for the bits of chicken and Javier shrugged taking a large bite out of his sandwich.
He chewed slowly and swallowed before taking a pause and looking towards you again. “Do it to me, sheldon. You’re an animal, sheldon.” He stressed on the name each time.
You paused and looked at him, mouth still full from the chicken you had found. Your eyebrows knit together creating tiny creases between them.
“Ride me big, sheldon.” He completed, clearly making his point. “It just doesn’t work.” He rested his jaw against his fist and leaned, while his other hand lazily swirled some fries in the puddle of ketchup on his plate. Watching you swallow your chicken, and some of your pride.
“You’re unbelievable.” You finally said, not being able to think of anything clever. You dug into your salad with more gusto, fork clattering against the bottom of the plate and mouth intentionally overfull to avoid conversation.
Javier watched you, cheek still resting on his fist. He had thought you were pretty even before meeting you. Javier had recognised you from family pictures Steve had shown him back in Columbia when they were killing time on a stakeout, surprising himself as to how well he remembered them. Those did no justice whatsoever to how you looked in person. One of them was outside what Steve had said was Connie’s parents place, you were in a denim halterneck, mini dress; all legs. Right in front of the large grill that was being tended to by Steve’s dad alongside Connie, Steve and another man. Javier’s thoughts drifted for a second. Sheldon perhaps.
Although a complete pain in his ass, Javier couldn’t ignore the fact that you were nothing short of incredibly attractive; He was a man after all. He knew the minute he saw you on the curb, those fucking shorts securing against your thighs were going torture him the entire drive.
“I really don't get it,” Javier said, “I’m not trying to come onto you. Rest assured. You’re-” He gestured to the top half of you, your mouth still bulging with food. “-An empirically attractive person. Despite your…quirky traits.” He paused to take a bite of his sandwich. “I don't get why you have to make life so difficult for yourself? Good sex should come easy to you.”
You stopped chewing altogether and Javier wondered if you were aware of the fact.
“Is good sex all you think about?” The question came after you had finished swallowing. The jukebox now played ‘our love is here to stay’ , the one by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.
“You forget whiskey.” Javier brought the cup of coffee to his lips. “I thought Connie told you.” He raised his eyebrows teasing, and took a sip, sucking the coffee that had dripped down onto his thumb with a smooch.
~
After splitting the bill, the both of you flopped into the car, Javier taking the driver’s seat this time. He pushed open the console and stuck a cigarette between his lips, making a quick job of lighting it.
“Have you thought about what would have happened if Ilsa and Rick never actually slept together?” You fastened your seatbelt and Javier checked the rearview mirror. “Do you think they could’ve just been good friends?”
“No.” His answer was plain and simple.
“Why not?” You discarded your shoes and brought your feet up onto the seat, checking the map on the visor and then your watch.
“Men and women can never be friends.” he stated coolly as he reversed the car, eyes still focused on the mirror.
“That’s quite the claim.” You laughed. “Dare I ask why?”
He shrugged, switching the gears, “The sex always gets in the way.”
“That’s not true” You scoffed, shaking your head “I have a number of male friends and there is no sex involved.”
Javier shook his head. “No you don’t.” The words tumbled out of his mouth, each followed by a small cloud of smoke.
“Yes I do.” He shook his head again, as if his theory wasn’t up for debate which caused you to frantically turn to him nodding. “Yes I do!”
“You only think you do.”
You laughed incredulously. “So you’re saying I'm sleeping with these men without my knowledge?”
“No, what I'm saying is they all want to have sex with you.”
“How do you know?” You creased your eyebrows.
“Chica, we’ve been over this, I know how-”
“Men operate.” You mocked, rolling your eyes.
“Yes, exactly. A man cannot be friends with a woman he finds attractive.”
You laughed, “Ha! So you’re saying a man can be friends with a woman he doesn’t find attractive then.” Javier shook his head, for the third time.
“No, they pretty much want to sleep with them too.” You turned to him, appalled.
“I find it rather amusing that you think every man is cad.” You slapped your hands against the tops of your thighs. “You’d be surprised to find that, some of them actually do care about platonic relations with the opposite sex.”
“I know you think Colin or your male ‘friends’ are above it all,” His tone made quotes over ‘friends’ “but trust me, they’ve all thought about having sex with you at some point or the other and sooner or later they’re going to articulate it.” Javier could tell his words had sunk in a little bit more, with your prolonged silence.
“What if I don’t want to have sex with them?” You raised an eyebrow curiously.
“Doesn’t matter.” He shrugged. “The sex thing is already out there and hence the friendship has already gone to dog shit, end of story. Men and women can't be friends.” A truck honked beside you causing you to jump in your seat.
“So you don’t have any female friends?” You asked, tone bordering on pity, remnants of disbelief still hung on your words.
“Nope.” Javier said, smacking his lips on the ‘p’
“Let me guess, it got in the way.” You teased.
“Yes.” He turned to you. “It got in the way.”
“I’m still not convinced by the fact that you think all men are as perverse as you are.” You wrinkled your nose and Javier grinned.
“I don't think, chica, I know.”
You muttered something under your breath softly and Javier turned back to the road. You reached over and flicked the radio on to a random station and ‘everybody wants to rule the world’ came on. You smiled to yourself and leaned against the window on your side, your feet tapping softly to the beat.
The rest of the ride flew by with you asleep and Javier covering some of your last shifts entertained by your soft snoring and the monotonous chatter of a news broadcasting on the radio. By the time you reached your friend Amanda’s neighbourhood the sun was just peeking out from behind the clouds. Javier had made good time, despite your prior estimates.
“Thanks for the ride.” You yawned, dragging the last of your suitcases onto the curb in front of Amanda’s building.  “It was…enlightening.” You said, your hands finding your hips to rest on.
“It was.” Javier said, bordering on a yawn- courtesy of the extra hours he had to drive. He dropped your bag next to your small suitcase. You muttered a small sorry in response which he waved off, covering the yawn with his knuckles.
“Have a safe drive.” You said, finally as he made his way back to the driver’s seat, almost begrudgingly, his legs stiff from the last couple of hours.
“I’ll see you then.” he chopped the air in a small wave with his car keys and ducked into the vehicle.
You watched his car slowly merge with the other ones on the road, “See you.”
I know this might seem silly because it’s just a tv show, but I had such a viscerally bad reaction to the new episodes of ofmd that I’m still spiraling. Specifically the second episode (the third was a lot better than the first two) really sent me down. I just had to spend my whole therapy session working on a safety plan. I had absolutely no idea how dark the first few episodes were going to be and it caught me really off guard. It was so extremely triggering that after the second episode i could not move for a while (forever thankful that I watched them with a friend and was not alone when this happened and that they were willing to help me with whatever I needed) it really wrecked me not just because I’m so invested in the characters and didn’t want to see Ed like that but because of how the portrayal of his suicidality made me feel and how it brought me back to times I’ve felt like that (obviously in a less pirate murder way but the same feelings of fervent intense need for self destruction) it was just such a shock after last season being my silly little gay pirate show and having absolutely no hint that it was going to get Like That. Anyway if there are people who haven’t seen it yet just take care of yourself and be aware that it gets intense. Please watch safely.
Tyler Blackburn and Michael Vlamis bring the beloved couple of Alex Manes and Michael Guerin to life on Roswell, New Mexico. The sci-fi drama premiered in 2019 and is currently finishing its final season. The series finale will air Monday, September 5 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. This interview will include spoilers for episode 4×12, “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane.”
I had the incredible opportunity to chat with both actors about those emotional Malex reunion moments, what the couple’s dream ending would look like, Michael and Alex’s character arcs, the legacy they want the fan-favorite couple to have, and so much more. Keep reading for our discussion!
Tyler, we finally got you back! I’ve been waiting for you to be on my screen again, I’m so happy. I was just floored by your performance as well as Michael’s in the last episode. For both of you, which scene was the hardest or your personal favorite to film together for the reunion and why? Michael Vlamis: Oh, wow. I know that, I think, on set the day that we shot that scene where like I walk away from you on the truck after you tell me you’re dying, and I walk a little bit and I turn around, it’s like right before Bonnie and Dallas pull up, I remember that scene being so interesting because it was like, what is the ultimate joy? Very rarely do you experience the ultimate joy of what you want, out of your partner specifically too, and then the lowest of lows within like a second. So that was a really, I thought — I mean, I say fun, even though it was like a gut-wrenching scene, it was a fun scene to do because you get to go super, super deep. I mean, it’s kind of some of the most simple acting that I’ve done as Michael Guerin because he’s just like, there’s nothing, he’s stripped away in that moment, you know? I really enjoyed doing that. Tyler Blackburn: Yeah, that’s a good point that you brought up. I think that scene was interesting because I really hit you hard. I’m like, “I’m dying, let’s get married though,” you know what I mean? It’s like, “What the hell?” I think that was challenging even for me to navigate that trajectory and to watch you receive that, but I don’t know, I feel like it is funny to say, I mean, actors are ultimately like masochists in some ways, so I think to say we enjoy doing that is true because it’s the challenge. One thing I think you and I have in common, Vlamis, is we want to make things as real as possible and you know, we’re talking — we’re on a show in that heightened state, we’re in an alternate dimension, I’m dying, let’s get married though, and we still want to make it very real. I think we really got it quickly too, which was gratifying. It made me feel… it was like just really riding a horse, showing up on set, and all of a sudden we’re just pulling shit out like that. We’re just killing it, loved it.
In tonight’s new episode, you have those scenes in The Crashdown in the pocket dimension, and I was crying. What was that like to do acting-wise? You have Alex saying he’s not going to make it then you have Michael saying he’s going to get them home. How was it balancing those two different perspectives? Vlamis: I remember that was a very difficult scene to do. I remember that that day, where you’re like in the diner, me and Dallas are working and I run up to the — you know, I haven’t seen this episode yet, right? I watch it live, I have no idea if I even did a good job with that monologue. I remember it being like… we did it so many different ways, I kept doing it differently, but I just tried to stay on Tyler because you just look at Tyler and he clicks you in it. His eyes just connect and you give him what he needs. Blackburn: Yeah, that was intense. I mean, obviously pretending that you’re dying but trying to do the right thing for your partner, your loved one, that was challenging for sure. But I think it really — I don’t know, it was an opportunity for you to really like fight for me and fight for us. I remember on the set feeling like you were very invested every single take and stuff so I’m sure it came out great.
So I have to ask, were you both shocked when you found out it was Alex was who going to propose, circumstances aside? Did you have any guesses before of who would be the one to propose eventually? Vlamis: I don’t know if I actually… Blackburn: I didn’t really think about it either, to be honest. Vlamis: No, no, it kind of just seemed like something would happen. Blackburn: Nothing about our relationship is traditional. So it’s like we probably should have just gone to Vegas, Nevada. We should of just in the alternate universe, gone to Vegas. No, I don’t know, but I think it’s cool that Alex did that because, I mean, obviously the circumstances, he had to do it then, but I think in a lot of ways– I was gonna say Alex has been more passive, but I think throughout the four seasons, Guerin was always like, “show up, show up,” you know what I mean? And I was always just like, “I can’t do this.” I think it was great that Alex was like, “I know what I want now.” Obviously, when you’re dying, things probably click into perspective a little bit.
One thing that I really was laughing about in the best way and that I know the fans are gonna get a kick out of is that Malex forever banner at the wedding. What was your reaction when you saw it? Blackburn: This is actually my honest, honest take, when I got to that set, I was like, “I’m so glad that he’s stopping this wedding because this is gaud as fuck. This is like the worst-looking wedding ceremony ever.” I mean, the gesture is sweet but like, this is bad. So I’m glad that you stopped it, to be honest. Vlamis: They’ve never played into — have ever played into the ship name on the show actually up until that point?
No, I don’t think so. I was shocked. Blackburn: Oh, wait, was that the first time ever? Vlamis: Yeah, that’s why it was like kind of — I don’t know they kind of just went for it. Blackburn: That’s so hilarious, I don’t even know if I realized. Vlamis: That’s like if on Pretty Little Liars there was Haleb in the background. Can you imagine? Blackburn: They might have to be honest. I don’t even know, that’s such a crazy concept. The ship name thing. Vlamis: Yeah, but in the show? It’s insane.
I haven’t seen it on the show. I’ve seen it on others. But this is the first time and I was like, “Wow, what a way to make a statement.” Vlamis: I mean, it’s a fun thing, but it is kind of almost like breaking a certain wall, especially if no characters have ever said it before, but I’m not remembering. Maybe they have said it. I don’t know.
The fans will figure it out, they’ll let you know. No spoilers here so throw away what you know about the finale for a second. I’m personally, in my opinion, saying that Michael and Alex are getting married, whether it’s in the finale or future, they’re getting married eventually. So beyond marriage, beyond the finale, what is their happy ending? Do you see Malex having kids? Do you see them moving away from Roswell? In your head, what is their dream ending? Blackburn: Please let them move from Roswell. I don’t understand why anybody would want to stay in a town where all this crazy shit goes down. I just don’t understand. I mean, to be honest, I’m like, “We need to figure out a way to go to space together.” I feel like there’s someplace better. I feel like that’s the case. That’s what I would like and then we can have alien babies and maybe we could find — oh, I’m gonna get kind of gross, maybe on that planet, it’s possible for two dudes to get pregnant. Vlamis: To have a baby! We’re definitely going to have kids. I know that for a fact. Blackburn: Yes. Vlamis: How could we not? Blackburn: Oh, they’d be so hot.
I’m just so sad that we’re not gonna see it. I’m heartbroken. Blackburn: I challenge the fans to, in whatever format they want, create what they think our children would look like, whether it’s a drawing, a painting, digital. I think that would be cool, and they can just like put it on Twitter and tell us what they think our kids will look like. Vlamis: Great idea. What about a Malex movie? I challenge the fans to just pitch Malex movies. I want to hear your ideas.
Do you think we won’t? Blackburn: I’d do a movie. Vlamis: I’d do a movie, yeah.
Could you imagine them as dads though? Vlamis: That would be awesome.
I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with now with those challenges. Next, I have a fun question: there are a lot of times that people get introduced to a show by a simple scene or clip. So if you both could pick a clip or scene to show just how special Malex is to a person who has never seen Roswell, New Mexico, and has no idea who these characters are, which would you show them and why? Vlamis: Wow, that’s a really hard question. Blackburn: I mean, I do think it would be some of the earlier scenes, I just feel like those are the most charged, they were the most telling of our dynamic, you know? Vlamis: The “I never look away, not really” scene, when you like pull me into the trailer. Blackburn: Yeah, I love that one. Vlamis: That was a good scene.
Blackburn: There’s another one when I come to the junkyard, it’s mid-season, I come and… Vlamis: “What do you want to say, Alex?!” Blackburn: Yeah, exactly. I turn around and like, “No, I do have some shit to say.” I think that one is really… Vlamis: Dude, that’s a good call.
What advice would you personally give to Michael and Alex as they close this chapter and move on to the next chapter in their lives? Vlamis: Enjoy being happy. Allow yourself to be happy. Blackburn: My advice would be get out of Roswell and go find actual happiness. Keep loving each other, keep listening to each other, and keep showing up for each other. Vlamis: Keep listening, that’s right.
In these two episodes especially, but also just throughout the series, Malex have had such great callbacks and parallels to your earlier moments. Do you have a favorite that when you read it in the script you’re always excited to kind of play with? Vlamis: Oh, the pieces want to be together is the one that always gets brought up to the point where it’s almost like a running joke how much it gets brought up. Blackburn: Yeah, I don’t like that one. Vlamis: You’re done with it now. Blackburn: No, I don’t like how much it was used. Vlamis: I know, yeah, it got used so much. Blackburn: But I mean, I like the sentiment for sure and I think when it was first said it was pretty whimsical, but I don’t think it needed to be used that many times. I don’t know, I mean, I don’t think you said it that many times but “I don’t look away.” I think that one is simple cause I do think in relationships, it’s like you do have to remind each other why you’re there, you know what I mean? It’s like that at the root of our relationship, that’s what it is. It’s like, “I’m not gonna look away from this.” Vlamis: Yeah, that line was awesome.
What do you think either teenage or season 1, episode 1 Michael and Alex would think of how they end up in the finale? Would they believe it? Vlamis: They wouldn’t even think it. They wouldn’t even know it possible. Blackburn: Right, I mean, I do think as teenagers, I guess I could speak for Alex a little bit… Vlamis: Teens maybe. Blackburn: I feel like maybe Alex would definitely have that sort of fantasy or– not that you’d have to be young, but I do think when you’re young and you haven’t been extremely steamrolled by life yet, a lot seems possible. So I think, even if it’s in your own fantasy world, I feel like as a teenager, Alex would probably come up with that in his mind, but for it to actually happen, no, I don’t think he would really believe that. Vlamis: I would say the same thing. I think everything when you’re younger, you know, is a little bit more fantastical, even though it’s all real, it can happen, it doesn’t happen the way you think it will happen, especially when your boyfriend’s dad attacks you after… like, that changes how you approach life. Everybody has their trauma. Everyone’s been changed by their past events, but everybody deserves where Malex ends up and I think that’s the coolest thing about our growth. We had amazing arcs. We really did, we really had cool arcs.
Right? The hardships your individual characters went through outside of their relationship were just unreal. It’s so rewarding to see that they get to be happy in the end. I say this all the time, but you both have created something insanely special that I’m so grateful to see represented on screen. What do you want the legacy of their relationship to be for fans? Blackburn: I think just for it to be one step further into like normalizing a queer relationship and having it be really complex, beautiful, harsh, and all of the things that you’ve seen in all of the romantic movies throughout time, but it was always represented by a male and female. I mean, I’m watching a docu-series right now called, The Last Movie Stars, about Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and I’m watching all of their performances in these clips, and there’s all this like, intense love and hate for each other in some of their scenes, and I’m like, “oh, that’s Malex.” I think for it to be normalized and be a part of that on television, in entertainment, I think for me, that’s a really proud moment. I hope that that’s ultimately the legacy. Vlamis: Yeah, I think you said that perfectly. I mean, what do you want to leave people with? You want to leave them changed. You want to leave them different. You want to leave them better off than they were before, just like we’re better off than I think we were even before the show, right? So yeah, I think that we did some really cool things on this show that were groundbreaking in certain ways, even from like, I saw Harry Styles said that gay men aren’t having sweet, sensual sex in movies and film, that was in an interview that came out recently. I saw IndieWire was kind of going at him because they were like saying that he was wrong about it, and I have no comment on that at all, but just reading that made me think about me, like, sweetly caressing Alex’s leg, his missing leg. That was like — you never see that, not only do you not see queer men doing that, but you don’t see anybody showing a limb like that and in a loving way. I mean, that was pretty amazing. That was pretty wild, we’ve done some groundbreaking stuff in a way and that’s all on the writers and creators, and just grateful to be a part of it. So I hope people are just left with like, we did our best to honor the truth of love and make a difference.
I have to talk about the GONE TOO SOON Vlambase merch that is going to be taking all of my money. Seriously, I’m going to be completely broke on series finale day, so thank you for that. But tell me about doing that, especially the Malex collab. You’re really honoring all of the characters with this drop and I think it’s a beautiful thing. What is it like seeing the response to everything and sharing it with the world now? Vlamis: Oh, it’s so cool. They’ve heard me, they’ve seen — look, it’s all I wear, so it’s gotten to a point where everyone’s almost like sibling annoyed with me in a way and now that everybody wants to be a part of it, and seeing Lily’s design doing so well, Nathan’s a part of it, and we have other people that we haven’t even announced yet, but it’s so cool. I mean, Tyler and I, every time I do with Tyler, it’s more fun. I mean, everything from our photoshoots to whatever, it really feels like it’s a continuation of advertising for the show. We really like… they’ll see on our latest photoshoot what we did for the fans and they’re gonna enjoy it. You’re talking about what life is after the show, I mean, we have a lot of fun with this. I think more shows, more actors should be doing stuff like this. It’s so fun and the fans seem to really love it, you know? Blackburn: I mean, yeah, I definitely think what he’s saying is so true. It’s just a way to connect even further, outside of the parameters of the show, and kind of have people participate. There’s definitely reward in it, and our photoshoots are so psycho and funny. Also too, I think it’s really a great way to spend some time together off set. I mean, I enjoy it. I enjoy it for sure. The response is crazy, the number of people that buy that merch is astounding. It’s amazing.
I am so not ready for the photoshoot. While I am 100% behind the Malex movie, I need to know when you two are going to be on my screen again. Is there a dream project you would like to do next? Blackburn: That’s very hard for me to say. I think for me, I’m gonna take some time to really navigate what I want the next phase of my career to be. So I think I’ll probably be a little bit more patient and potentially picky. So I don’t know, I’m like really open to reading different types of scripts and you know, the majority of my career has been sort of in this YA genre. Roswell is not exactly YA but sort of and so I’m looking to, as a 35-year-old, actually graduate a little bit. I mean, I have a lot of things that I enjoy watching and reading, so hopefully, some of those will kind of, you know, I don’t know I can be in something along those lines, but I don’t know yet. I’m figuring it out.
But if Michael’s attached to a project, are you in? Blackburn: Yeah, absolutely. I think it’d be so fun to do something outside of Malex together. Vlamis: That would be cool, that would be very cool. Blackburn: And I mean, what if we played enemies in something? Vlamis: Man, it’d be so hard but fun.
I mean, they doesn’t have to last as enemies, you could do enemies to lovers. That’s a pretty popular trope. Vlamis: This is not the Malex movie! Blackburn: I know, that’s hilarious. It would be good, I know that. Vlamis: Damn right.
Michael, anything for you? Vlamis: I’m just really excited for my directorial debut to come out. Crossword is coming along great and yeah, I’m gonna go watch it right now actually, an earlier cut so we’ll see. We’re working on it in the editing room, there’s still a lot to be done, but yeah, it’s feeling really good. Hopefully, maybe that’ll be the next time you see me on screen. I don’t know, maybe before then, who knows?
I love your Peepaw Philip AU but I’ve got a few questions that might or might not have already been answered. (Hopefully they haven’t, I don’t like being a parrot!)
How is the Emperor’s Coven operating? Is the Boiling Isles coven system self-efficient enough without Belos manning the helm?
Is Hunter freaking out about his missing uncle and trying to find him or has he been coerced into a better health schedule by some of the coven scouts (ie Steve) and possibly Darius and Eber and Raine?
Speaking of RED (lol, my little nickname for the three rebellion coven heads), are they investigating Belos’s disappearance?
And my last question - how’s Philip’s interaction with King and Amity? Those two I haven’t seen and loved comics/art of his interacting with them yet and I’m curious how that would all go over.
Hello! Firstly I'd like to apologize for taking a while to reply, I've been a bit busy irl lol. Secondly, it's all cool! I'm always happy to answer questions, and these ones haven't been asked yet (im??pretty sure?? I dont have a good memory pfft) so it's all good haha.
A little warning, both for mention of death (just like off handedly, treated as a possible result of the emperor going splat out the window), and also I'm gonna ramble A LOT, so this will probably be... very, very long. And filled with my bad humor since I cannot control myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It's been only a week, maybe less, since I came up with this au so I dont have many solid ideas in place. Everything is open to interpretation!
I've actually been thinking over how the Emperor's Coven, and by extension the coven heads and the boisling isles itself, would react to Belos' predicament. I've written out a few scenarios, roughly plotted out some scenes that would go down between characters, but nothing's really set in stone. Here's what I have so far, but I honestly encourage people to have their own interpretation of what would go down if they wished :)!
So. Belos' epic fail (real not fake) (coven scouts called) via falling out a window was obviously witnessed by some scouts down the hallway, either that or they heard a loudass noise coupled with the Emperor swearing which was totally Not Good. One of the images I'd planned to draw later but didnt get to was one where there was a coven scout (STEVE!!!), Lilith, and Hunter all staring out of the window.
Now on one hand, the coven could come to the conclusion that the Emperor is dead (because who the hell can survive a fall that high + if the emperor survived he "totally would have come back as soon as he could" = emperor is dead oh crap). Hunter would VEHEMENTLY deny this ("He can't! There's no way that could happen!" Followed by him having a rough time of it poor guy).
Either that or they come to the conclusion that this was a kidnapping attempt or soemthing of the like and Belos is missing, which is just as bad. Hunter is still suspicious about that, because /who the hell could be able to kidnap Belos/? Obviously not a human teenager. Cough.
Either way, Lilith, as the head of the emperor's coven at the time (since its early season 1, right before the convention episode too), has to deal with... a lot of things, including dealing with other coven heads, the emperor's coven, and just trying to get things in order in the chaos that came from the emperor's sudden and tragic "death". Still on the fence about if someone in particular takes over his role or if all the coven heads work together (poorly btw they're gonna fight a lot over it), as well as if the general populace is informed about him "peacefully passing away from old age" or his "sudden disappearance" or whatever.
Anyways shes working herself to the bone. Shes got eyebags for days, plus the added stress of the dude who /PROMISED/ to cure her sister of her curse just up and vanishing to who knows where, so shes. Having a rough time.
Hunter is, as I said, not doing well!! In his mind Belos has always been this sort of... untouchable figure, you know? Nobody could hurt him. Now hes missing, and since Belos is his only "family", Hunter is determined to find him, wherever he is.
So then I had this scene written down where Lilith, still wanting a cure for her sister (plus some other things she needs for the coven itself), and Hunter, wanting a clue about his uncle's whereabouts, both decide to. Uh. Break into Belos' quarters and pilfer his shit.
Does he even have quarters canonically? Its so weird thinking of this dude like... legitly sleeping. Like in a BED. Either that or he sleeps on his throne ahdhshava just imagine that. Hes sitting on his throne all day listening to people with his mask on and hes not responding because hes completely OUT behind that thing ahagdhs.
Okay side tangent over. Basically Hunter is sneaking down the hallway, all sneaky like, and he stops by the door. He reaches out to open it, but before he could it opens to reveal lilith, carrying several books that had probably been banned from the public, and they're both staring at eachother.
"I wont tell if you wont."
"Deal."
A few other notes I had detailed a scenario in which Lilith and Hunter either a) work together to carry out the Emperor's will while he's gone (or presumed deceased) or b) investigating into what occured due to their own interests, which eventually winds up with them uncovering the mountain of wtf that the Emperor had hidden. In my notes I wrote down about them potentially meeting the collector because I thought'd it be funny to draw their reactions to them. Fun!
(Also the collector has been around Belos for a while now, just kinda stuck in place. What the hell is he gonna do when the only contact they've had with another person- albeit not a GOOD one, not by a long shot- suddenly disappears???)
As for RED (THATS WHAT THAT MEANT!!! I SAW IT BEFORE IN A FEW FICS AND I WAS SO CONFUSED AHFHSGWGAH ANYWAYS-) they probably get involved later on with this whole mess. At this point of time Raine isnt a coven head- unfortanutely, but they only become one in season 2, and since its season 1 it's up to Darius and Eber instead. I do contemplate if, in this state of chaos, Raine is promoted earlier on so that theres more stability or something,,, idk. I'm still not sure ^^;
Goodness but. This kid. Hunter needs some people to make sure he doesnt wear himself down to the bone just scouring the isles. Imagine if he arrives in places to investigate like RIGHT after Phil leaves the place, both none the wiser. Gah.
Honestly though, I think if anyone would be able to coerce this kid into sleeping a full night's sleep, it'd be Steve. Hes not involved with all this conspiracy-investigatory-drama stuff like all of the other responsible adults in Hunter's life, and he has big brother energy.
Okay, onto King and Amity: I- uh, I'm still figuring things out with these two. Amity is Lilith's personal apprentice (I'm pretty sure? At this point in time at least), and the au begins before her character development really kicks off, so I dont think its until later when she gets to meet Phil and also experiences deja vu "hey your voice is super familiar?" like Eda and Lilith. Just like RED, I'm not sure what to do with Amity yet, unfortunately. I'm open to suggestions/ideas though! :)
As for King, Phil is like... you know cat trees/perches? Yeah. That's what Phil is to King. Hes like an adequate Grandpa, he has some responsible instincts, but hes kind of reserved to being King's personal perch when he wants to feel tall.
Somewhere in my notes I also wrote down the following:
"King and Phil are mysterious origins buddies
King: maybe you were also a malevolent and terrifying (though not as terrifying as me) ruler like I once was?
Phil: hm... no, I dont feel like I would have been a very good ruler"
It was for something I wanted to draw but,,, yet again, I didn't get around to doing lol.
I hope that answers your questions! If you have anything else you might like to ask, or suggestions or things you want to talk about, feel free!
Thank you for your ask!! :D
March 28th at 12:13AM KST: JM🌟: "I miss you 😊"
March 28th at 03:42AM KST: JK replied: "Me too"
As the whole fandom was debating whether his reply meant "I miss army too", or "I miss you (JM) too", JK goes live 11 minutes later at 03:53AM KST, live titled: "수취타 (SuChwita)" where he says he came to watch Jimin's SuChwita episode and then he watches SMF2 MV, SMF2 dance practice, a LC challenge video, and a compilation of BTS teasing Jimin. He says he watched Jimin's Pixid interview and mentions having already watched the "Jimin's Playlist" video of FACE on BangtanTV when it came on shuffle after the SuChwita episode. He listens to some music by other artists, gets inspired to work, and after 1 hour, 36 minutes and 46 seconds of him basically giving Jimin heart eyes, he leaves us to go work on music.
The fandom is in complete shambles but at least now we know who was JK’s "Me too" comment directed to.
At 10:20AM KST on the same day, Jimin replies to Jungkook's comment with "Let's see each other soon. Your live is cute"
At 7PM on the same day, Jimin went live after he had finished his last music show performance, and JK showed up in his live chat spamming comments like "You know I'm hyung's (your) fan.", Jimin teases him about watching a bunch of his videos on live then tells him to prepare him his ramen recipe (that he had posted a few days prior) when he comes to visit, to which JK eagerly replies "Of course, of course. I'll do it for you". The live ends with JK having left a total of 19 comments, an unprecedented feat for him.
Reading the facts of that day as they are, it's undeniable that JK was missing Jimin like crazy (no pun intended) and he never does this when he's missing the other members, such as Seokjin who was already enlisted at the time, neither did he do the same for Hobi (at least not yet) after he enlisted either, despite him mentioning missing them in passing when the topics are brought up.
Jimin is special to Jungkook, whatever their bond may be, it's special and JK makes sure that everyone knows that. JK is a man of grand gestures for the ones he loves and he makes sure to show that Jimin isn't just another one of the hyungs to him, he's more than that. Whether you think they're dating or not, you can't deny that Jimin gets special treatment from JK in a lot of things (like how he used to only buy birthday gifts for Jimin and no other member, or how he made a whole GCF for him to celebrate his birthday, also something he hasn't done for any other member). And if that live was indicator on how JK acts when he misses Jimin, how he tries getting his attention by doing over-the-top actions, then I think it's pretty safe to assume they meet regularly now since he hasn't pined over Jimin in a minute. If he ever feels like he misses Jimin again, he'll make sure everyone knows it.
Hi anon!
What you are describing here is exactly the sort of thing that makes me believe there is nothing nor has there ever been anything romantic between Jk and Jimin. Because why… why if they’re partners would Jk not go see Jimin if he’s missing him? Jimin was busy sure, but does he not have to sleep? Is Jk not able to go with him, like other members have done? Why was it possible for Yoongi and Hobi to go see Jimin, but not Jk… if he misses him so? I hate to compare like this, because it seems cruel… but Tae has obviously been very busy the last few weeks, and yet.. he went to see Jk at Inkigayo.
What you described in your ask, was close friends missing each other. I will never deny that Jk and Jimin are close and they love each other very much. But they do not love each other the way partners do, because if that was the case Jk would’ve been content to just go see Jimin whenever there was a chance to. I once had a partner who traveled two hours to have lunch with me for an hour. That is what people in love do. Friends however will suddenly go ‘damn, I haven’t seen him in a while… I miss him’ especially when prompted by something (a weverse comment). Friends will then go on a whole supporting watching whatever they can together with army binge. But even when Jk realized he missed Jimin they did not meet and they did not meet for ramen after that and they did not meet for a while. Jimin asked Jk to come watch him practice more and Jk didn’t want to. So sure.. Jk had a surge of missing Jimin… but when real partners miss each other they do not go on social media about it.. they go see each other.
The GCF was not for Jimin’s birthday, don’t know where you got that from, the Tokyo trip wasn’t even for Jimin’s birthday probably. Jimin himself complained about Jk not buying birthday gifts.
There’s still nothing to base them meeting regularly on, except your assumptions. They could, sure.. but there’s just as much chance that they aren’t. Jk has been super busy, they did meet in NY.. which was part work probably.. but I’m also sure they really enjoyed their time together.. because I do agree that Jimin and Jk have a special bond, just not a romantic one.
hello!!! hope you are well!!!!! asking all the dndads folks this .. what are your hopes / predictions for next episode
Hi you!!! Hope you’re doing well too :]
Hopes and predictions huh? Hmmm…
Haven’t put too much thought into the realm of actual predictions for this one, truthfully! I’m *hoping* it’ll be a pretty Linc-centric episode (well, Linc and Grant!), which feels reasonable enough to expect?
Very excited for whatever Matt is gonna bring to the table more generally, really. Aside from Lincoln just being the bestest fucking boy, I think Matt more than all the other players (granted Beth excels here as well) just does a phenomenal job at remembering the core themes of the show (“Family!!!” I scream from the rooftops, “This is a show about family!”) and accordingly pays a lot of attention not just to the arc of his own character but to that of Grant as well (and of course all the intricate ways in which the two are intertwined)- a fact that I think is obvious just by looking at how many of Matt’s dad and teen facts revolve around Grant actually! But that’s another post lol. But yeah, even in last week’s teen talk he stated:
“I’m sure Scary won’t be happy with Grant but like, I think, the thing I’m more concerned [with] is obviously Grant- is gonna be how Grant feels about himself. Him screaming “no” after he did it is like, that’s rough”
Which is just- ugh it’s everything to me. That to say, I’m really pumped for what’s to come on that front, since I have a lot of faith in Matt to steer things in a direction that is narratively satisfying for both Lincoln and Grant. Also, it’s such a small thing relative to all that’s going on but, I really do hope that Anthony remembers that Grant hasn’t heard Lincoln’s new voice yet lol, I don’t want that to go unaddressed! Ugh I almost wanna go and relisten to “The Staircase” just thinking about all of this- I’ve been waiting for Grant and Linc to confront each other for *SO LONGGG* hahaha. As a final note on Grant, cause if not I could go on forever, in the teen talk Anthony stated:
“(…) I’ve already had some thoughts as to what he [Willy] wrote onto Grant’s collar”
Which seems to imply that the kiddads don’t all have the same thing written on their collars, which is very interesting! Makes me wonder about Lark and Sparrow as well (<- this got me thinking: “what if Lark and Sparrow’s collars had things written on them that forced them to be apart from each other” or something to that effect OUGH that’d be so rad anyways anyways total tangent loool).
*Otherwise*, FUCK ANTHONY BETTER REMEMBER NICKY. Lmaooo he better parachute in at some point in this episode or else!!! I’d love to see him have to confront Terry’s death, I’d LOOOVE to see him confront/interact with Grant, and I really hope that his reactions to either of those things isn’t just “fuck this shit I’m out” and then he poofs away as he is one to do. Especially now that Anthony decided for convenience’ sake that Nicky can’t make portals anymore- at least keep that consistent lmao. If he *did* try to just dip though, my hope would be that Taylor steps in and actually confronts his dad about that trend of his. Because really, ever since Waterdeep when you think about it we’ve seen that Nick has this bad habit of running away from his problems rather than confronting them (granted his behavior is I think pretty understandable in a good chunk of those cases) and so… Well I guess now that Taylor has become more attached to his dad I would like to see him actually call Nicky out on those behaviors and how it affects him as his son and let his dad know that, well, he doesn’t want Nick to walk out of his life again, y’know?
Hopefully that makes some sense haha, didn’t mean for this ramble to be so long! But yeah, I guess those are the main things running through my head atm (I’ve also been thinking about Scary and Terry and how all that shit is gonna play out ofc, but nothing concrete to say on the matter as it stands).
:3 Wbu???
c3e56 thoughts & musings--spoilers ahead
savalirwood exploration! very excited to see where we go. we’re shifting back into the plot moving action from the last few eps of team bells being more rp based.
new art!!! it looks so good. i love the fits, the poses--i can’t wait to see what the team hells redesigns look like. these look fantastic and really hit on everything they described including the werewolf sweatpants.
oh this is immediately a disaster, they’re going to be so silly goofy. i cannot believe that the reasoning for not having pants is a ho never gets cold. my god.
imogen coming in clutch with that telekinesis on these giants. envisioning a sledding pack of giant goats, followed by a giant who’s been walloped by stones is so silly
the fucking goat boat. chet & deanna making the boat together.
the shovel talk!!! fcg being nice and deanna trying to find what she wants
casting commune with avandra!!! no more coin flipping! she’s here! present but distant. oh god why is it hair
faith in the people more than the gods--it’s still faith
dreaming of laudna!!!! i get why they can’t do it now, and the fact that the solstice is perpetual means it seems like it isn’t going to get any easier.
fully insane gnomes shearing a dead goat. do you ever think about what drew deanna to chetney the first time. because i think we’re seeing it.
rollerblade warthog & finally having the werewolf conversation
fey energy????? it’s a (frog) bog mound
really feeling how team bells is affecting their new companions. deanna’s really getting into the feral energy--or maybe that’s just been there the whole time and we haven’t seen it. i think this episode is really showcasing what each guest came to do; deanna’s views of faith being a foil to fcg’s first commune with avandra, the aeormaton intimacy obviously, chetney & deanna digging into the past and really seeing what she brings out in him as well as what he brings out in her. we’re finding out a lot about his past experiences and seeing how he doesn’t actually share everything about his lycanthropy.
while i get the lycanthropy angst, they do have the possibility of remove curse for frida. i think both deanna and fcg can possibly prep it. also it is a blood curse--so anything they’re waiting to see about is based on how their interpreting the robot werewolf and how the players & matt want to see this through.
fun little battle sequence that they handled very efficiently. and fearne talking to that fish was quite funny. the wolf-king feels like a set-up for a molaesmyr encounter.
frida & deanna praying!!!!! in the wake of the gods retreating, two robots are finding faith.
so far they’ve left the goats and the raft. any time they would have saved by going by river is going to be made up as they make their way back. there isn’t even a barrier in front of the goats or anything--they had the wood to make a baby gate. anyway. there will not be a single goat when they come back, i’m calling it now.
and we’re finally seeing molaesmyr! i can’t wait to see what they find here lore wise. i have a feeling next ep is going to end up being exploration survival based to start and then shift to combat with whatever shows up. that elk spider is not something i wanted to envision. at all. ugh.
it’s like the aeor exploration but less crazy magic and more cursed beings! can’t wait to see what nonsense they have yet to find on this little trip into the savalirwood. my guess is that they’ll encounter the wolf-king, defeat/kill it and then run into the claret orders who were pursuing it, if they want to tie in each part of chetney’s backstory.
Secret Invasion ep. 3 review
While definitely slower paced than the first two, I did enjoy the third episode of ‘Secret Invasion.’ The best parts for me are when Ben Mendelsohn is on screen. I love this guy. He really puts his all into his performance and really delivers on every scene he’s in. There’s so much charisma whenever he’s on screen. I also love his chemistry with Samuel L. Jackson. Talos and Fury talk like an old married couple and I’m living for it.
Even though I do wish there was more action at times, I am enjoying the serious tone of this show. We’re halfway done and it does feel very small and self-contained due to budgetary reasons and what not. Regardless, I do appreciate the serious tone and the acting from Jackson and Mendelsohn.
I’ve also come to enjoy Kingsley Ben-Adir’s performance as well. Gravik is definitely a threat and Ben-Adir delivers. As always, Olivia Coleman slays. Her crisp delivery of dialogue is quite amusing to listen to. However, I can’t really say the same for Emilia Clarke. I love Emilia ever since Game of Thrones. But I don’t feel like this show is giving her much to do. Hopefully, the last three episodes will really showcase what she can do.
If I’m being honest, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos is what’s carrying the show for me. Talos is a wonderful character with so much kindness and compassion inside him. Mendelsohn’s heartfelt performance on top of his great scenes with Samuel L. Jackson make it worthwhile. And I am worried that Marvel will kill him off next week (for narrative reasons obviously). Well, at least we still have 3 episodes of amazing Talos content right?
Spoilers below
I don’t think G’iah is really dead. We’ve seen extremis in use when Gravik healed his hand. We also see Emilia Clarke in scenes from the trailers that haven’t shown up yet. Unless we get official confirmation, she’s fine. Although, Talos finding out about what Gravik did would break him.
What is Varra up to. She’s suspicious ngl.
Talos standing up for himself against Gravik was awesome. He may be tired of fighting and wants to keep the peace, but he still has it in him in need be.
