Pawpaw: How do you name your characters?

Hm. Vibes? Generally speaking I use Behind the Name and its filters. Sometimes I go elsewhere or look up specific ethnic names. I sometimes go for meaning.

But sometimes, here is my process:

The Secret Portal

Lexi was dubbed "Alexia" in my fourth grade (age 10) creative writing project. I remember I went through an extremely elaborate process to naming her until I fell on that name. Unfortunately I don't remember how I did. In Draft Three (age 13) I tried out the nickname Lexi used by her sister and occasionally her friends, but in Draft Four I just called her Lexi and I preferred that for her (though her name is still Alexia).

Ash was originally named Aurora, but when starting Draft Four I had another OC in the project that later became SOTL named Aurora (she doesn't really exist anymore lol) and to avoid this I picked the first "A" name I thought of: Ashley. But I tried out Ash and realized I preferred it, so kept it consistent.

Gwen was the first G name I thought of, named because the friend she was originally based on wanted her name to start with that. Noelle came out of an inside joke. Rose was on a whim.

Maddie was Maddie because my sister chose the name. She also chose Kelsey. The names stuck, and I really like them.

Robbie I called Robert for a long time, choosing the name for an embarrassing reason (14 yo me was obsessed with Tony Stark) but the nickname fits him much better!!

Akash was chosen because I wanted less English names and selected Indian/Hindi on some baby name site. Obviously being an A name it was close to the top, but it meant "sky" and I laughed because I'd made him a flyer and I liked the name so kept it.

Carla was originally Carly and I don't remember how I picked the name or why I changed it. George was named after my grandfather. Why did I choose it for a young guy idk.

Ewan, Jazlyn, Wade, Parker, Tyler, and Sam were all chosen on a whim and I liked them so they stayed. Liam was originally named Seamus and I didn't like the name for him so I just looked up popular names in Canada and picked the one I liked. Niri was Stephen but I changed it for a similar reason: it wasn't working. Both characters have improved since I changed their name to something I was comfortable with.

Same is true for Hye-Jin and Gabriel, but the main reason I changed their names was they were Lucy and Luis - and with Liam and Lexi I hope you can understand why I didn't want so many four letters, two syllable L-names.

Jedi I picked because I found it on a baby name site. Carmen was on a whim.

Most other names were like that for TSP so I'll stop now. Basically the gist is most of them I picked on a whim, but then I changed the ones I didn't want by usually going to Behind the Name and filtering by ethnicity and looking for something I like.

School of the Legends

Much simpler to describe/harder to choose:

1) pick the name that they are in the fairy tale. Example: Jack (all Jacks)

2) pick a name that means the same as the name in the fairy tale but in another language. Example: Bai Xue (Snow White)

3) choose an ethnicity and look at all the meanings and pick one that's close to the character they represent. Example: Saira (Red Riding Hood, means "traveler")

4) pick a name with a good meaning tied to the character they represent. Example: Azraq (Little Boy Blue, means "blue")

Sugar Maple: What's the sweetest part of your story?

Any moment where it's 2+ characters (usually 2) doing something really sweet for the other (e.g., Kelsey giving Maddie an amigurumi tiger for no reason) or comforting the other (e.g., Gwen giving Akash a hug and a kiss on the forehead when he's crying).

TSP is made up of nothing but corny comedy, angst, and soft ass moments. It's honestly hard to pick a favorite, which is kind of lame lol. But these silly kids loving each other just gives me a lot of joy!

You and Chris got married on July 7th, 2026. While engaged, you bought a house together. 7 bed, 4 bath with a large yard, also with a pool like Jace wanted. Caspian had the smallest room since he wasn't technically living with you guys and really it was just going to be there to hold his belongings. Okay, let's talk about the wedding! It wasn't small but it wasn't huge either, since you both were married before. It had family and friends at it. Chris chose Scott as his best man, then his groomsmen were Anthony, Sebastian, Caspian, Jace, Connor, and Benjamin. A lot of the marvel cast was also invited but weren't a part of the wedding party. You chose, Maya as your maid of honor obviously, then, Shanna, Carly, and four of your other friends. Most are also wives of soldiers that you met before Caspian's death, but one was a woman who served with him who you became friends with. Now you may be wondering if the boys are groomsmen what was June? She was the cutest flower girl ever with Chris' niece, Stella. Then his nephews were the ring bearers. You guys also invited Senior's family to the wedding since they are also your family. They showed up of course to support you but you knew it was hard for them. You changed your name from Y/n L/n-Richardson to Richardson-Evans. So you could have the same last name as all four of your kids, June included. Chris could've cared less if you changed your name as long as you are happy. You two didn't plan on having any more kids, deciding four kids were enough especially since your oldest already moved out and the other three were all in school and everything. But you ended up getting pregnant a year after you got married and had another boy, named August. You quit the job you hated to be a stay-at-home mom again. If it was a job you liked you probably would've kept it despite your husband being rich. But you wanted to be a stay at mom for June and August like you were for your oldest three while they're young. Also you despised that job. Anyway onto the kids!

Caspian ended up proposing to his girlfriend, Kelly after dating her for a year and a half. Her brother, his basic training buddy was both excited and pissed. Caspian and Kelly had three kids together, Gregory, Milly, Jackie, and Luca. Gregory was named after him, his dad, and his grandpa. Since his and his dad's middle name is Gregory after his grandpa. Gregory was also named after your dad, with his middle name being Robert. Now, Milly, she's named after you, while Jackie is named after Kelly's family. Luca was named after Chris though, his name being Luca Christopher Richardson. Chris was ecstatic, he couldn't believe that Caspian would want to name his son after him. He cried, it's on video. Okay on to other things, Caspian retired from the army at 40 as a Sergeant Major. He then moved back to Boston with his family. After retirement, he started working for a construction company after a few years of being a stay-at-home dad for his kids.

Now let's talk about Jace! So he continued playing baseball during middle school and high school before getting a full-ride scholarship to play baseball for Mississippi State. He then went on to play for the major leagues. The teams he played for are, Tampa bay rays, Toronto blue jays, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and finally the Boston red sox. He was super excited when he got traded to the red sox since her be close to you and Chris, and his siblings. Now as for his family life outside of you and Chris. He married a girl his college girlfriend, Michelle.. They adopted three kids they're a sibling group so they're all biological siblings, their names are Dion, Josephina, and Esme. They continued to foster but didn't adopt again after that. Okay anyway, Jace is pretty famous. Mostly in the sports world, but some people not into sports know his name. Some claim it's only cause he's Chris' step-son. Also in interviews that either of them may have. If they're asked about each other. Chris always expresses how proud he is of Jace and how he loves going to his games. Not just cause he gets to sit in the box. Okay, that's one of the reasons. Jace always says that he loves having Chris as a step-dad and he tells some random story about something that Chris did when Jace was in high school at one of his games.

Alright moving on to Connor! He continued playing soccer all through middle and high school but unlike Jace, he didn't go pro, instead, he became an officer in the army. Caspian was a little salty cause his brother outranked him right when he joined. But he was proud since he knows Connor had to work twice as hard to become an officer over just enlisting as he did. Okay so Connor married a fellow army officer, Camilla Diaz, they had two daughters, Elana and Luna. If both Camilla and Connor got deployed the girls would either stay with you and Chris or Camilla's sister depending on who would be better available to take them for however long until one of them came home. Most of the time it was you and Chris since you were a stay-at-home mom for August anyway while Camilla's sister was working and didn't have the time to care for them especially when they were super young. Anyways Connor retired at 46. His wife retired at 40 though. Anyway, they decided to move back to Boston and they opened a sandwich/hoagie shop. It's called War-Subs, it's really popular. Especially for veterans, and active duty since they offer a discount. Obviously, since it's veteran run, anyway both Jace and Chris have slightly advertised it. Like when they opened Chris posted photos and stuff about opening day, and while Jace couldn't be there he reposted his brothers' story on his saying he couldn't wait to try it. So yes some of its popularity comes from his famous family but they didn't post much about it after. Though people could often find Chris there hanging out with his grandkids or having lunch with you. Also, Connor hired his nieces, nephews, daughters, and August to work there during high school/ college. It's a family-owned and run business.

Okay, let's pause before we talk about June. The boys started a non-profit. It's called Families in war. Its whole purpose is to help widows/widowers of soldiers rebuild their lives, get jobs, finding housing, childcare, schools. All the things that probably would've helped you so much those first few months. They also help veterans, with the same things, it's helped lower the veteran homelessness rate. Now the charity is obviously for Americans but they did once work with the brothers trust and put 50% of profits towards paying for Christmas presents and food for the veterans/widows and widowers of American soldiers and the other 50% was to do the same but for UK soldiers. It worked perfectly since the big prize thing was a dinner with Chris Evans, you, the Hollands, Jace, Caspian, Connor, and June, as well as their spouses. Not August cause he was a teen and really didnt want to go. Also, you'll find out why June went now!

Before we get into that though. You adopted June when she was 10, her mom tried objecting but since she skipped town when she was 2 the judge didn't pay any mind to her. Now for the good part, she joined tackle football in 4th grade, it was a boys team because they could find a girls team and thought it would be fine. She started as a kicker but eventually got moved to running back which was the position she stayed in. Well, she went on playing football, on an all-boys team until college where she got a free ride scholarship to play football for the Oklahoma state cowboys. She then went on to be drafted to play for the NFL like a fucking girl boss. Anywho the teams she played for are Pittsburgh Steelers, then the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She went to two super bowls while on the Kansas City Chiefs but only won one. She never played for the Patriots though but she was really hoping she would. Also, she's famous, like super famous and a ton of young girls look up to her! That's why she went to the dinner since she too was famous it was a big deal cause the winner and 2 of their friends could have dinner with four famous actors/ athletes and their families. Now I do think she retires earlier than most players do. Just cause she is playing a male-dominated sport so she was playing against a lot of people who were either bigger or stronger than herself. Now onto other things like love! Who did she marry? Matthew butler. Her childhood best friend, and obviously your best friend's oldest son. Maya and Butler ended up having another baby the same year you had August. But we're not talking about them we're talking about June and Matty. Now of course he stopped going by Matty in middle school, he started going by Matt to everyone except family. Your family obviously included in that. Her and Matt had a son and daughter, Griffin and Violet. Both are very athletic, like there parents. Matt played football with her in middle and high school but enlisted in the army for four years before going to college for engineering.

Chapter One: Move You

Would You Call That Love

Pairing: Chris Evans x Raina Morrison (OC) Rating: PG-13 (Will be 18+ for some chapters)

Description: There was always one person Chris Evans tended to turn to when he was not in a committed relationship, Raina Morrison. He could confide in her about things going on in his life that he did not feel comfortable talking to his family or close friends about. Chris and Raina were able to establish a way to communicate with one another openly but also being respectful of the other’s time and needs. It was the only constant “relationship” he had, but without all the nonsense of trying to build a life together. A “friends with benefits” situation.However, what happens when Chris starts rethinking his “relationship” with Raina and if either is willing to pursue something more?

The early morning sun was peeking out of the sky, and the air became crisper after a night of pouring rain. It was supposed to be a scorcher day in June, according to the weather reports. That was not something Chris Evans was looking forward to since he would have to be on-set partaking in outdoor scenes wearing sweaters, business suits, and heavy coats for most of the day. Despite the uncomfortableness his job could be at times; it was all worth it in the end. Acting was Chris’s passion, and he was fortunate to do it for a living. Chris knew he was lucky to be where he is at in his career. From the ups and downs to disappointing film projects that either went nowhere or were rejected by critics and moviegoers, it all helped steer Chris to become the actor he is today. 

With Captain America’s story arch now complete, Chris understood that it would take a while for audiences and some of his fans not just to see him as Steve Rogers. Taken on Marvel’s top Avenger’s mantle was one of the best decisions he ever made as it took his career to new heights. Yes, Chris had some reservations at first when he was approached for the role. He did not feel confident enough if he could handle the responsibility of playing such an iconic character. Chris was also worried about losing his anonymity. He liked being able to walk down the street with no one recognizing him or asking for a photo and autograph. Now Chris was lucky to make it a few blocks without someone yelling out at him or screaming “Captain America!”, it most definitely did not help ease his anxieties. 

“You got that Marvel money saved up. You can live comfortably while pursuing projects that people would not expect you to take. It’s a win-win situation for you,” said Raina, one of Chris’s best friends, when mentioning the project, Defending Jacob. 

“You sound like my mom when you say that,” Chris replied.

Raina laughed at that and said, “I take that as a compliment, you know.”

“Good. I meant it as one. You both don’t take shit from anyone. And I know you’ll always have my back as she does.” 

Raina and his mom kept telling him to accept the lead role as Andy Barber in Defending Jacob. And how it would not only be beneficial to his career, but also because 1.) the show was filming in Massachusetts so that he would be in his own home every night, and 2.) it was a role he never played before: a father.

Sipping his coffee, Chris stood on the porch of his house as he watched Dodger relieve himself. “Come on, buddy. Let’s get you some breakfast,” Chris waved Dodger over to get inside. The pup was happy to oblige his owner and trotted up the steps into the house.

Chris heard his cellphone buzz just as he put down Dodger’s food bowl. Reaching over the counter to retrieve it, Chris smiled when he saw the name pop up.

Raina: Why didn’t anyone tell me that New York is always hot as balls! I can’t take it!

Chris: I warned you about that, but you didn’t listen to me. What are you doing up so early?

Raina: Couldn’t sleep. Nervous about the preview shows for Moulin Rouge. It is coming up quickly. 

Chris: Again, congrats on Moulin Rouge. You got nothing to be nervous about; you are going to be great. 

Raina: I’m just worried if people will like the show. 

Chris: You and the crew wouldn’t have gotten to Broadway if people weren’t interested in seeing it, especially with you as Satine. This is what you were born to do. Scott, Ma, and I will be there on opening night. Carly and Shanna won’t be able to come but plan to see the show on a girls’ trip to New York later in the summer. I know both are proud of you as well. 

Raina: Stop! You are going to make me cry. All of you are so sweet. Seriously, I am forever grateful to you and your amazing family for supporting me all these years.

Chris: Can you believe it has been ten years since we met at that Vanity Fair photoshoot for West Side Story. 

Raina: Oh God! Do not remind of that shoot. I was a ball of nerves that day.

Chris: I thought the paramedics were going to need to be called for you.

Raina: Haha. Seriously though, they probably would have if you didn’t help calm me down.

 January 2009

“Wait, what is this photoshoot about?” Raina asked her manager, Jerry, who sighed in response.

“Raina, I’ve already told you. It is to celebrate the Broadway revival of West Side Story. The photographer is re-creating scenes from the film version,” explained Jerry.

Now it was Raina’s turn to let out a sigh. Despite being in the music industry since she was 16 years old, the whole idea of photoshoots still did not make her comfortable. Plus, the long hours, the bright lights, and the shoots’ craziness left Raina feeling drained. It was now adding other celebrities to the mix brought on a whole new set of anxieties.

“You don’t have anything to worry about,” Jerry assured Raina and added, “Today’s going to be easy. You don’t have to worry about being front and center this time. You’ll be in the background so that you can relax.”

“If you say so,” Raina retorted with a small smile. She trusted Jerry.

When Raina finally arrived at the photoshoot, she was whisked away to hair and makeup and then onward to change her costume. She had already been introduced to her fellow photo mates, such as Ashley Tisdale and Robert Pattinson. Both were very pleasant and nice. 

“I am such a huge fan. I have all of your albums,” Ashley gushed admirably. 

“Thank you. That is very sweet of you to say. I loved your album ‘Headstrong,’ by the way. Such great bops,” Raina complimented, and Ashley’s face lit up like a Christmas tree.

As the two made their way to the set, each shared what project they were currently working on until Ashley stopped dead in her tracks.

“What is it?” Raina asked, concerned.

“Chris Evans,” whispered Ashley and went on, “Chris Evans is over there.”

“Yeah, didn’t you know he’d be here? Oh my God, you guys didn’t use to date, did you?”

“Ha! I wish. He is just so cute,” Ashley said dreamily.

Raina just laughed and shook her head, “Yeah, he isn’t bad looking.”

They filmed the dance scene from the movie where Maria and Tony see each other for the first time. Camilla Belle and Ben Barnes were assigned the lead roles for the shoot. Raina had to admit; both looked the part. The photographer, Mark Seliger, gathered everyone around to discuss how the scene would go. He started placing people in their spots with Jennifer Lopez and Rodrigo Santoro in their positions as lead Shark dancers Anita and Bernardo, with Camilla and Ben on their respective sides. Ashley was assigned as a Jet girl dancing with Chris’s character, the Jets leader, Riff. 

Raina hid her smile when Ashley shook Chris’s hand and introduced herself. Poor thing looked as if she could faint. Settled in the back, Raina was one of the Sharks. She was perfectly content where she was at standing next to Minka Kelly and Jay Hernandez. The three would even make little side chat here and there. 

Overall, the photoshoot was going well. Until the bright lights, the loud music, and the uncomfortable costume started getting to Raina. She felt like she was going to pass out.  However, Raina was determined to pull through in fear of being labeled a “diva” or, worse, “difficult” to work with; that was not the kind of press she needed now. Remembering what her mother told her to do when the first signs of an anxiety attack were coming on was to breathe in and out. She did that a couple of times as she closed her eyes when Mark said they were changing film and wanted a couple more shots. 

Unsurprisingly, someone else was beginning to get restless during the shoot as well. Chris was not a fan of photoshoots. He always felt awkward and never understood what he was supposed to be doing. He would continuously worry if he were coming off stupid or looking like a fool. 

Chris was more cautious of the types of photoshoots he would take part in and made sure to steer clear of the ones wanting him to be viewed as eye-candy merely. He was working hard to make a trajectory in his career from heartthrob to serious actor. However, Chris knew he had more to prove to audiences and critics for them to see past his ‘Not Another Teen Movie’ or ‘Fantastic 4’ roles. 

Nevertheless, when he got word about Vanity Fair’s West Side Story photoshoot, Chris was immediately on board. He was a theater kid, after all, thanks to his mother. Similarly, with other shoots, it all starts the same. The photographer talks about the art direction of the shoot and expectations for the day.  

During the short breaks on set, Chris looked around to see the other actors and performers. While he knew some of the folks on set, he did not honestly know any of them personally. The only person he was more acquainted with was Camilla, and that was because both filmed the movie Push a year ago.

As Chris’s eyes roamed around the room, they landed on Raina, who was fanning herself with her hands. While others were making small talk, he noticed that Raina took deep breaths and her eyes were closed. She stepped down on the chair she was standing on to take a seat and put her head in her hands. 

Chris felt bad. He knew an anxiety attack when he saw one. Slowly making his way over to Raina, he kneeled in front of her.

“Hey, are you okay?” Chris asked in a whisper.

Raina jumped at the sound of his voice. She did not expect anyone to come up to check on how she was doing. She thought she was doing her best to be discreet.

“I don’t know. It’s too hot in here. The lights are hurting my eyes, and it’s hard to breathe,” Raina said, continuing to fan herself.

Instinctively, Chris reached out to hold one of Raina’s shaking hands to help calm her down. 

“Have you ever tried the 4-7-8 breathing technique?”

Raina shook her head no and said, “Never heard of that technique.”

“Trust me; it has helped me out a lot. Okay, so you’re going to breathe in for four seconds, hold it for seven seconds, and exhale for eight seconds. Do you want to try it with me? Breathe in 1, 2, 3, 4. Hold 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and exhale 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5, 6, 7, 8. Very good. Let’s do it again,” Chris calmly instructed Raina.

“I’ll get you some water. Just keeping doing the breathing exercises, okay.”

When Chris returned, he again kneeled in front of Raina and handed her the water cup.

“Thank you,” said Raina as she sipped slowly.

“You’re welcome.”

Raina let out a little chuckle, “I can’t believe I had an anxiety attack. I told Jerry I was worried about this happening. Again, thank you. I appreciate you helping me out,” expressed Raina gratefully.

As Raina continued to sip her water, Chris took the time to look at her. She was attractive, and he could tell she was a little bit younger than him. While this was Chris’s first-time meeting Raina, he had seen her before at other Hollywood functions. Neither having their paths cross until now.

“Okay, folks, let’s get back in your positions!” Mark yelled to get everyone’s attention.

“You going to be okay?” asked Chris as he stood up.

“Yes. I’m going to be fine,” answered Raina, standing up as well.

Chris helped her back up on the chair, and he returned to his spot next to Ashley. It was weird. No one else seemed to notice what went on between the two. It was like for those few short moments, Chris and Raina were in their own world. 

Chris kept stealing glances towards Raina for the rest of the shoot. He kept telling himself it was to make sure she was okay, not that he was drawn to her or anything. 

‘Don’t go there, Evans. The last thing you need is to be in a relationship, and she doesn’t look like the type to do hookups,’ Chris scolded himself and added, ‘Most likely won’t ever see her again after this day.’

“I am glad that it didn’t take long for us to meet again after that day. We do have Scott and Shanna to thank for that, by the way,” Chris happily reminded Raina.

He decided to call her that morning after their text exchange. He preferred hearing her voice anyways. 

“Oh yeah, at my concert in Boston. It was fate. We were destined to be friends.”

“Yep. Even though you are a fan of the New York Mets and Giants fan, I still love ya,” teased Chris.

Raina groaned, “Let us not bring up sports, shall we. It can only get ugly from here. Anyways, I’ll let you go. I gotta start heading out for rehearsals. Talk to you later. Bye,” said Raina.

“Bye, sweetheart. Take care,” replied Chris and ended the call. 

He looked over at Dodger, who had finished eating and was now lying in one of his dog beds near the kitchen table. As Chris continued to sip his coffee, he decided to make breakfast and went to the fridge to take some eggs. Once he got everything ready to begin cooking, his mind drifted to Raina. Chris noticed that his mind had been doing that more recently lately. 

For Chris, his relationship with Raina was more than just a friendship. She was someone he could confide in about things he was not comfortable bringing up to his family or close childhood friends. Their friendship evolved when both began a “friends with benefits” type of relationship. This would only occur when both were not in committed relationships with other people. 

Surprisingly, this arrangement only managed to make them closer friends. The boundaries they agreed upon were put in place not to fracture their friendship. He went into the situation not wanting to build some domesticated life with Raina. However, at times, Chris kept thinking if he could turn his friendship with Raina into something more. Something more than friends, more than sex buddies, but as a life partner. A wife and mother to his children.

‘Stop lying to yourself,’ Chris’s inner voice spoke up, ‘You’re in love with Raina. Just admit it!’

Nevertheless, Chris could not admit to himself. He was not ready to deal with those feelings for one of his closest friends. 

Not yet, at least.

Summary: The siblings find a case that isn’t what it seems, Dean pulls a dangerous stunt, and Olive comes clean about a few big secrets

I huffed as Sam pulled the computer screen out of the line of sight of people around us. I looked at the picture, then at Dean with another huff. Jinx whined at our feet.

“So much for our low profile.” Sam grumbled. “You’ve got a warrant in St. Louis, and now you’re officially in the fed’s database. And Ol, you’ve got a warrant in Maryland.”

I shrugged as I looked at our mugshots.

“Dude, I’m like Dillinger or something.”

“Dean, it’s not funny. Makes our lives harder, we’ve gotta be more careful now.”

“Well Sams, what do they have on you?”

“I’m sure they just haven’t posted it yet.” He mumbled.

I looked at Dean, who grinned. “No accessory? Nothing?”

“Shut up.” Sam scowled.

Dean laughed. “You’re jealous.”

“No, I’m not!” Sam spat.

I giggled. “You should’ve come with me, you’d have a warrant too.”

Sam rolled his eyes and shut the laptop. I leaned forward with a smile. “Alright, what do we have so far?”

“Yeah, you innocent, harmless, young man. What d’ya got?”

Sam pulled out a folder. “Architect Sean Boyden plummeted to his death from the roof of his home, a condo he designed.”

“Hmm.” Dean hummed. “Build a high-rise and jump off the top of it. That’s classy. When did he call animal control?”

“Two days before he died.”

“Did he actually say black dog?”

“Yeah. A, and I quote, vicious, wild, black dog. Authorities couldn’t find it, no one else saw it. In fact, the authorities are kinda confused as to how a wild dog could get past the doorman, take the elevator up, and start roaming the halls of the cushiest joint in town.” Sam sighed. “And after that, no more calls, doesn’t show up for work. Then he takes the swan dive.”

I looked back at Dean and picked a fry off his plate. “Think we’re dealing with an actual black dog?”

He shrugged. “Maybe.”

“Sams, what’s the lore on it?”

Sam handed me a few pages from the folder with a shrug. “It’s all pretty vague. I mean, there are spectral black dogs all over the world, but… some say they’re animal spirits, others say death omens. Either way, they’re big and nasty.”

Dean plucked a sketch from the pile and held it up with a smirk. “Yeah, I bet they could hump the fuck outta your leg, huh?”

Sam glared and I snorted. Dean’s smile turned into a frown.

“What? They could!”

                                                              ***

I shifted my weight from one foot to the other. Sam and Dean insisted that I wear heels to look older, and I could already feel blisters forming.

“So, you and Sean Boyden were business partners for almost ten years, right?”

“That’s right.” The man nodded at us. “Now one more time, this is for…”

“A tribute to Mr. Boyden. Architectural Digest.”

The man snorted, and Dean’s eyes narrowed.

“This funny to you?”

“No, it’s…” He sighed. “It’s just, a tribute. Yeah. See, Sean always got the tributes. He kills himself, leaves me and his family behind. Well, he gets another tribute.”

“Right.” Sam nodded. “Any idea why he’d do such a thing?”

He shrugged. “I have no clue. I mean, he lived a charmed life.”

“How so?” I furrowed my eyebrows.

“He was a flat-out genius. I mean, I’m capable, but next to him, I… and it wasn’t always that way, either.”

“No?”

“You wanna know the truth? There was a time where Sean couldn’t even design a pup tent. Hell, ten years ago he was working as a bartender at this place called Lloyds. A complete dive.”

“Right.” Sam nodded. “So what changed?”

“You got me. But overnight, he gets this huge commission, and he starts designing… he starts designing the most ingenious buildings anyone has ever seen. It was like… the level of van Gogh, and Mozart.” He stopped, staring at the ground.

“What?”

“It’s funny. True geniuses, they seem to die young, don’t they? To have that kind of talent. Why… why just throw it away?”

I yawned and rubbed my eyes. Sam smiled from beside me.

“Are you sleepy?”

I nodded. “A little.”

He held his arm up and I dove into his side, head resting against his chest. I let my eyes fall shut as I took a deep breath. I hadn’t been sleeping right for the last week. Drinking Dean’s blood had healed me, but he insisted that doing it every day would make me stronger. So far, it was doing nothing but giving me vivid nightmares.

I had woken up thinking I had killed him, and after two nights of hearing me scream, Sam suggested that I sleep in his bed instead. I felt like the scum of the earth, and although I knew better, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Sam saw me in the same way.

Jinx yawned from the backseat, and Sam giggled. The driver’s side door opened, and Dean slid in.

“So?”

“Secretary’s name is Carly. She’s twenty-three, she kayaks, and they’re real.” Dean grinned at me.

I sighed, and Sam rolled his eyes.

“You didn’t happen to ask her if she’s seen any black dogs lately, did you?”

Dean pulled a folded page from his jacket pocket. “Every complaint called in this week about anything big, black, or dog-like. There’s nineteen calls in all. And uh…” He pulled a post-it off the paper. “I don’t know what this thing is.”

Sam plucked the post-it from him and laughed.

“You mean her MySpace address?”

��Yeah, MySpace. What the hell is that?”

Sam and I both laughed, and Dean stared.

“Guys, I’m being serious. Is it like…” He leaned over and put his hands over my ears, but I could still hear him.

“Is it like some sort of porn thing?”

Sam and I only laughed harder.

                                                             ***

I sighed and rolled my neck. Dean huffed.

“I swear, if this is another fucking pomeranian barking in the neighbor’s yard-”

The front door opened, and Dean cleared his throat.

“Afternoon, ma’am.” He flashed his ID. “Animal Control.”

“Oh, someone already came yesterday.” The young woman shook her head.

“Oh, we’re just following up.”

“We’re looking for a Dr. Sylvia Pearlman.”

                                                             ***

“The doctor, well, she… I don’t know exactly when she’ll be back. She left two days ago.”

“Okay.” Sam nodded. “And you are?”

“I’m Ms. Pearlman’s maid.”

“So, where did the doctor go?” I asked, keeping an eye on Dean, who was roaming around the living room.

“I’m not sure.” She shook her head. “She just packed and went, she didn’t say where. That stray dog, did you finally find it?”

“Oh, uh, not yet. You know, you didn’t ever happen to see the dog yourself, did you?”

“Well, no.” She sighed. “I never even heard it. I was almost starting to think that she was imagining things, but she’s not like that, so…”

Dean plucked a photograph off the wall and squinted at it. “Hey, I read she was uh, chief surgeon at the hospital. She’s gotta be what, forty two, forty three? That’s pretty young for that job.”

The woman nodded. “Youngest in the history of the place. She got the position about ten years ago, I think.”

Dean hummed, and I sighed.

“An overnight success. Ten years ago.”

Dean flipped the photograph over. “Yeah, we know a guy like that.” His eyebrows furrowed. “Oh, hey. Look at this.” He showed us the back of the photo. “Lloyd’s Bar.”

I sighed as Dean put the car in park. He ruffled my hair with a smile and a wink.

“Alright. We’ll be back, keep an eye on Jinx. Yeah?”

I nodded. “Okay. Be careful please.”

Sam smiled and kissed my head before clambering out of the car. “Always, bug. You too.”

I watched as they started toward the door, and then Dean stopped. He and Sam exchanged a few words, then Dean pointed. I shifted around to see and sighed.

A crossroads, with yellow flowers growing in each corner. I squinted. Those were yarrow flowers, which were used for rituals. Summoning rituals.

“I’ll be right back, girl.” I patted Jinx on the head before climbing out of the car.

The boys heard the noise, and Sam beckoned me over.

“So, two people become sudden success about ten years ago. Right around the time they were hanging out at Lloyd’s.” Dean stated.

“Where there just happens to be a crossroads.” Sam sighed.

“You guys think?”

Dean shrugged. “Let’s find out.”

He walked into the middle of the crossroads and stopped, looking around. “This seem about dead center to you?”

Sam and I both tilted our heads.

“A little more to the left.”

“My left or your left?”

“Uh, our left. So your right.”

“Gotcha.” Dean mumbled as he shuffled a few steps over.

“Stop, there.” Sam put a hand up.

“I’ll get you a shovel.” I put a hand up. “Keys.”

He tossed them and I snatched them out of the air, hurrying to get a shovel from the trunk. I grabbed it and shut the trunk, handing it off Sam. He took it to Dean while I let Jinx out, holding her on a tight leash so she wouldn’t get in Dean’s way. Dean dug a few inches past the gravel and the sound of metal against metal made me cringe.

“Yahtzee.” He grinned and dropped the shovel, going at it with his hands.

He pulled out an old rusted box and dusted it off, coughing. He opened it and Sam and I dropped to his side. I sat in the dirt and picked through the box, pulling out old, small bones. Sam took a jar with a sigh.

“I’d be willing to bet this is graveyard dirt. And that’s a black cat bone.”

“That’s serious spellwork.” Dean sighed.

“Yeah, like Deep South Hoodoo shit.” I put the bones back in the box and rubbed my hands off on my jeans. 

“Used to summon a demon.” Sam huffed.

“Not just summon. Crossroads are where pacts are made.” Dean grew upset as he stood. “These people are making deals with the fucking thing. You know, cause that always ends good.”

“They’re seeing dogs, alright. Just not black dogs.” 

“Hellhounds. Demonic dobermans.” I huffed, petting Jinx’s head.

“Yeah. Whoever this demon is, it’s back and collecting. And that doctor lady?” Dean let out a low whistle. “Wherever she’s running? She ain’t running fast enough.”

We circled back to the car, tin box in hand. Dean had it in his hands, but he had closed it. He was agitated, and I felt guilt start to rise in my throat.

“So it’s just like the Robert Johnson legend, right? I mean, selling your soul at the crossroads kinda deal?”

“Yeah, except that wasn’t a legend. I mean, you know his music.”

Sam shrugged, and Dean deadpanned. “You don’t know Robert Johnson’s songs? Sam, there’s occult references all over his lyrics. I mean, Crossroad Blues? Me and the Devil Blues? Hellhound on My Trail?”

Sam only pouted, and Dean sighed.

“Story goes, he died choking on his own blood. He was hallucinating, and muttering about big evil dogs.”

“And now it’s happening all over again.”

“Yeah.” I sighed, crossing my arms over my chest. “We’ve gotta figure out who else made deals here.”

“Great.” Dean groaned. “So we’ve gotta clean up these peoples’ messes for em? I mean, they’re not exactly squeaky clean. Nobody put a gun to their head and forced them to play Let’s Make A Deal.”

“So what, we should just let them die?” Sam asked.

Dean shrugged. “Somebody goes over Niagara in a barrel, you gonna jump in and save em?”

“Dean.” Sam and I made the same face.

“Fine.” Dean sighed. “Alright, rituals like this, you’ve gotta put your own photo in the mix, right? So this guy probably summoned this thing, let’s go and see if anyone inside knows him.” He paused. “If he’s still alive.”

                                                             ***

“What’s this guy’s name again?” I asked as we walked up the set of wide, wooden stairs.

“George Darrow. Apparently quite the regular at Lloyd’s. Though this house probably ain’t up next on MTV cribs, is it?”

Sam chuckled and I sighed. “Yeah.”

“Yeah, so whatever kinda deal he made…”

“Wasn’t for cash.” Dean huffed. “Oh, who knows.” He shrugged and grinned at us. “Maybe this place is full of babes in Princess Leia bikinis.”

Sam and I sighed.

“No, I’m just saying… this dude’s got one epic bill due. Hope he at least asked for something fun.”

I made it to the door first and noticed black dust lined up under the door. I crouched and slid a finger through it.

“What’s wrong?”

“The hell is this, pepper?” I stood and held my finger out to Dean.

The door swung open and I jumped back into Dean, caught off guard.

“Who the hell are you?”

“George Darrow?” Sam tried.

“I’m not buying anything.” He moved to shut the door in our faces.

“Whoa, whoa.” Dean chuckled. “Looks like you went for the wrong shaker there.”

George glared and I sighed.

“Usually when you wanna keep something evil out, you use salt.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The man spat.

“Talking about this.” Dean held the photo from the tin box up. “Tell me. You seen that Hellhound yet?”

The man’s face went blank and he pulled away.

“Look, we just want to help. Please.” Sam begged. “Just five minutes.”

He sighed and let us in. I followed Dean, and Sam stayed behind me. The apartment was full of paintings, some done and others barely started. There was a table full of paint and brushes, and a bottle of whiskey. George served himself some in a glass, and the three of us looked around, and then at each other.

“So what is that stuff out front?”

“Goofer dust.”

I blinked, and Sam and Dean awkwardly faced George.

“What, you kids think you know something about something but not Goofer dust?” He pulled a brown sack from behind an easel and tossed it straight at us.

Sam and Dean both flinched, and I reached up and caught it with ease.

“We know a little about a lot of things.” I explained as I inched closer to Dean, looking at the bag.

“Just enough to make us dangerous.” Dean mumbled.

“What is it?” Sam asked.

“Hoodoo. My grandma taught me. Keeps out demons.”

“Demons, now that we know.” Dean perked up.

“Well, then.” George huffed. “Maybe it’ll do you some good.” He slumped in a chair. “Four minutes left.”

Dean and I glanced at each other with slitted eyes before both turning to Sam. He took the lead with gentleness.

“Mr. Darrow. We know you’re in trouble.”

“Yeah, that you got yourself into.” Dean grumbled.

I elbowed him, hard, and he grunted as Sam kept talking.

“But it’s not hopeless, alright? There’s gotta be something we can do.”

“Listen.” George sighed. “I get that you boys wanna help. But sometimes a person makes their bed, they’ve just got to lie down in it. I’m the one who called that demon in the first place.”

Dean huffed as he shot us both an I told you so look. “What’d you do it for?”

“I was weak. I mean… who don’t wanna be great? Who don’t want their life to mean something? I just… I never thought about the price.”

“Was it worth it?”

“Hell, no. Course, I asked for talent. Shoulda gone for fame. I’m still broke and lonely. Just that now I got this pile of paintings don’t nobody want. But that wasn’t the worst…”

“Go on.” Sam pressed.

“Demon didn’t leave. I never counted on that. After our deal was done, the damn thing stayed at Lloyd’s for a week. Just chatting. Making more deals. I tried to warn folks, but, I mean… who’s gonna listen to an old drunk?”

“How many others?” I asked.

“Uh, the architect, that doctor lady. I kept up with them, they’ve been in the papers. Least they got famous.” He sighed.

“Who else?”

He shook his head.

“Come on, George, think.” Dean pressured.

“One more. Uh, a nice guy, too. Hudson. Evan, I think. I don’t know what he asked for. Don’t matter now. We done for.”

“No.” Sam shook his head. “No, there’s gotta be a way.”

“You don’t get it!” George shouted, and the three of us inched away. “I don’t want a way!”

“Look, you don’t-”

“I called that thing! I brought it on myself! I brought it on them…” He sighed. “I’m going to hell, one way or another. All I want is to finish my last painting. Day or two, I’m done. I’m just trying to hold them off til then. Buy a little time. Okay, kids. Time you went, go help somebody that wants help.”

“We can’t just-”

“Get out!” George snapped. “I got work to do.”

“You don’t really wanna die.” Sam reasoned.

“I don’t?” George challenged. “I’m… I’m tired.”

The three of us shared a look before heading for the door.

                                                             ***

Sam knocked on the door, and Jinx tugged at the leash. I tugged back, forcing her to sit. The door opened, and a man poked his head out.

“Yes?”

“Evan Hudson?”

“You ever been to a bar called Lloyd’s? Would’ve been about ten years ago.” Dean’s face was devoid of expression.

Evan slammed the door shut with a grunt, and I heard the latch go. I sighed.

“Come on, we’re not demons!” Dean called.

“Any other bright ideas?” I turned to Dean with a scowl.

Dean gave me a bitchface before turning, setting himself, and then kicking the door down in one go. I let go of Jinx and she ran in, following where Evan had gone. Dean set himself back up, and Sam smacked his leg down.

“Wait!” He hissed.

Dean scowled, and Sam shot him a look right back. He turned the handle and gently pushed the door open. There was no noise from inside, and Sam stepped in first. Jinx stayed by my side, tail wagging.

“Evan?”

“Please!” He jumped out into sight, hands up. “Don’t hurt me.”

Sam put his own hands up, and Dean’s face remained blank. Jinx sat down, head tilted to the side.

“We’re not going to hurt you, alright? We’re here to help you.”

Dean took the lead, stepping forward. “We know all about the genius deal you made.”

“What?” Evan was shocked. “How?”

“Doesn’t matter. All that matters is that we’re trying to stop it.”

“How do I know you’re not lying?” Evan shuffled backward as I took a step forward.

“Well, you don’t, but you’re kinda running low on options there, buddy boy.” Dean spat.

Evan swallowed and began to pace back and forth. “Can you stop it?”

“Don’t know. We can try.”

“I don’t want to die.” Evan whined.

“Of course you don’t, not now.” Dean hissed.

“Dean.” Sam whispered. “Stop.”

“What’d you ask for anyway, Evan? Huh? Never need viagra? Bowl a perfect game? What?”

“My wife.”

Dean let out a harsh laugh. “Right. Getting the girl. Well, that’s worth a trip to hell for.”

“Dean, stop.” I warned.

“No. He’s right.” Evan sighed. “I made the deal. Nobody twisted my arm, that… woman, or whatever she was… at the bar? She said I could have anything I wanted. I thought she was nuts at first, but… I don’t know how… I was desperate.”

“Desperate?” Sam repeated.

“Julie was dying.”

“You did it to save her?” I asked, voice quiet.

“She had cancer. They’d stopped treatment, they were moving her into hospice, they kept saying… a matter of days. So yeah. I made the deal. And I’d do it again.” Evan shook his head. “I’d have died for her on the spot.”

Dean took a predatory step forward. “You sure about that? I think you did it for yourself. So you wouldn’t have to live without her. But guess what? She’s gonna have to live without you now. What if she knew how much it cost? What if she knew it cost your soul, huh! How do you think she would feel!”

“Dean!” I shouted, grabbing him by the arm and tugging him backward.

“Okay, that’s enough.” Sam warned, then turned to Evan. “You just sit tight, alright? We’re gonna figure this out.”

I pulled Dean into the hallway, grip on his wrist tight. Jinx stayed with Evan, and Sam followed us out.

“What’s your deal?” I hissed.

“I’m fine.” Dean snapped.

“Dean-”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” Dean snarled. “Look, I got an idea. Ol, you still got the Goofer dust?”

I scowled as I pulled the bag out and handed it over. “You throw George’s hoodoo at the Hellhound, keep it away from Evan as long as you can. I’m gonna go to the crossroads and summon the demon.”

“The fucking hell you are.” I glared at him.

“Olive, I’m the fucking grown up here.”

“Dean, are you nuts?” Sam tried to ease the tension.

“Maybe a little. But I can trap it. I can exorcise it, and I can buy us time to figure out something more permanent.”

“How much time, Dean?” I crossed my arms over my chest.

“I don’t know. A while. It’s not easy for those clusterfucks to claw their way back from hell and into the sunshine.”

“No.” Sam shook his head. “No way.”

“You’re not allowed to say no, Sammy. Not unless you’ve got a better idea.”

“Dean, we’re not gonna let you summon that bitch.”

“Why not?” Dean turned back to me.

I shook my head, and Sam jumped in.

“We don’t like where your head is at right now, that’s why not.”

“What the hell are you guys talking about?”

“Dean, you’ve been on edge ever since we found the crossroad.” I reached for his hand.

He let me take it and turned back to Sam with a huff.

“She’s right. And we know why.”

“We don’t have time for this.” Dean tore his hand from mine and brushed past us both. He shoved the Goofer dust into Sam’s chest without stopping, ready to take off.

“Dad.” I called. “It’s because Dad.”

“I’ve been thinking it too, De. I’m sure you have too.”

Dean’s shoulders shrunk and he sighed. “It fits, doesn’t it? I’m alive. Dad’s head. Yellow-eyed demon was involved. What if he did? What if he struck a deal? My life for his soul?”

“I think I hear it!” Evan shouted. “It’s outside!”

Dean steeled himself once more, but his expression softened. “Just keep him alive, okay?”

“Dean…”

“Go.” Dean pointed.

Sam and I turned back and Dean took off. Sam began to line the windows with Goofer dust. I tied Jinx’s leash to the bookshelf Evan had hidden behind and took a handful from the bag, making a circle around Evan.

“What is this stuff?”

“Goofer dust.”

“Is she serious?”

“Afraid so.” Sam sighed. “Look. Believe us, don’t believe us. Whatever you want. Just stay inside the circle, alright?”

Evan nodded and hugged himself as he stood in the circle. Sam helped me finish it, shaking out the last grains from the bag.

“Alright. That’s the last of it.” Sam sighed and we began to pace around the room, eyes on the dust.

Sam was quiet, thinking. I glanced over at Evan, who looked horrified, but somehow at peace. I sighed and turned to Sam.

“It wasn’t supposed to be Dad.”

Sam blinked. “What?”

“It wasn’t supposed to be Dad.” I repeated, feeling tears brew in my eyes. “It was supposed to be me.”

“Olive, what are you…”

“I gave Bobby a different list. I did it on purpose. I was gonna make a deal. For Dean. That way, you, and him, and Dad would be together.”

“Olive.” Sam shot me a warning glance.

“That’s what Dad and I were fighting about before Dean woke up. He knew what I was gonna do. So he did it instead.”

“Olive…”

“It’s my fault that Dad is dead. It’s not Dean’s. I should’ve been quicker.”

“Olive.”

“If Bobby hadn’t said anything, it would’ve happened. And Dean would be happy. He’d have Dad.”

“Olive, don’t you let him hear you say that. Okay? He will never forgive you.”

My heart shattered at the prospect, but I shook my head. “I don’t care. I’m so tired of lying to him. I can’t see him like this, not anymore. I should’ve died, and Dad should still be here.”

“Olive, that’s not-”

“I’m a fucking monster, Sam! How many teenage girls do you know that have to drink their brother’s blood everyday?” I hissed.

Sam looked away, and I nodded, wiping away my tears.

“Exactly. I should be dead, and Dad should be here.”

“Did you guys hear that?”

“No. Where?” I wiped my tears and stood straight.

“Right outside the door.”

The office doors began to rattle like it was the end of the world. Sam grabbed Jinx and pulled me to follow as he stepped inside the circle of Goofer dust. The three of us stared at the door as it shook harder. Jinx whined, and then barked.

“Just don’t move, alright?” Sam ordered. “Stay where you are.”

The door almost came off the hinges before stopping suddenly. We swallowed hard before turning to Evan.

“Do you still hear it?”

“No. Is it over?”

We looked at each other, and Evan whipped around to stare at a grate in the corner. I mumbled a string of curse words to myself, and Sam pushed Jinx into my arms. He slowly crouched and picked me up, placing me on his hip.

The grate burst off the wall, and the Goofer dust began to blow away.

“It’s here!” Evan shouted.

I looked and gasped.

“Ol?”

“I guess the glasses work.”

A huge, hairy, pitch black dog that looked more like a wolf moved closer. Red eyes and yellow fangs, and everything about it screamed death. Another one came out after it.

“Sammy.” I whined, clinging to him.

“Can’t you see it?” Evan whined.

“No! Stay inside the circle!” Sam ordered.

I tightened my grip on him. The dogs circled us, but it was like watching a silent movie. Jinx let out a howl. They clawed at the floor, gouging deeper than an inch in the wood. They stopped just outside the Goofer dust, glaring.

Sam huddled the three of us closer, trying to protect Evan while keeping me on in case we needed to bolt. I watched as the wind from the grate continued to eat at our circle.

“Come on, De.” Sam whispered.

The wind blew at our hair, and Jinx let out a loud whimper. I ducked my head into Sam’s neck and tensed up, ready to die.

“Circles broken, come on!” Sam shouted and took off, dragging Evan along with us.

Evan ducked into a storage room down the hall, and Sam slammed the door shut behind us. 

“Bug! Need a hand!”

I handed Jinx off to Evan and let out a growl, helping Sam hold the door shut. My head began to throb, and my fangs tore at my bottom lip. The hellhounds pushed hard, but Sam and I pushed back harder, both grunting.

The pounding stopped.

                                                             ***

“Demons lie all the time, right?” Sam repeated what we had told him so long ago when we were on the plane. “Maybe she was lying.”

“Come on. That really what you think?”

Sam looked down, and I looked away, shuffling closer to him.

“How could he do it?”

“He did it for you.”

“Exactly. How am I supposed to live with that? You know, the thought of him… wherever he is right now. I mean, he spent his whole life chasing that… yellow-eyed son of a bitch. He should have gone out fighting. That was supposed to be his legacy. You know? Not bargaining with the damn thing. Not this.”

“How many people do you think Dad saved? Total.”

“That’s not the point, Sam.”

“Evan Hudson is safe because of what Dad taught us. That’s his legacy, Dean.”

“She’s right, man. We’re still here. We gotta keep going. For him.”

There was a long pause, and I turned back to Dean.

“De?”

He hummed in response.

“When you were trapping that demon, you weren't… I mean, it was all a trick, right? You never considered actually making that deal, right?”

He stared straight ahead, then glanced out the window. Tears began to stream down my face and I turned to bury myself in Sam’s side as the radio began to blare. Sam only wrapped his arms tighter around me.

                                                             ***

Sam shut the bathroom door, and I heard the shower turn on.

“Dean.” I whispered.

“What is it, kid?” He didn’t look up from the TV.

“It wasn’t supposed to be Dad. I’m sorry.” I sat on the bed opposite of him and fiddled with my thumbs.

He turned the TV off and knelt down in front of me.

“What the hell does that mean, Olive?” He got closer to my face.

“I was supposed to make the deal. Dad did it instead. It’s my fault he’s gone, not yours. I’m sorry.”

“What do you mean you were gonna make a deal?”

“My soul. For your life. But Dad found out. And he did it instead.” I looked up with tears in my eyes. “I’m sorry.”

Dean’s face conveyed an emotion I couldn’t describe. He looked like he wanted to kill me and smother me in kisses at the same time.

He put his hands on my knees and let out a shaky breath.

“Why would you even think about doing that?”

The tears began to flow freely. “I just wanted you to be happy. You loved Dad, more than Sam and I ever did. I just wanted you to be happy, Dean.”

His hands moved up to my cheeks and took another deep breath. “Olive Sam Winchester. If you think, even for a moment, that I would be happier with anybody than I am with you and Sam, you’re dead wrong.”

My lips quivered and I looked up, meeting his eyes through blurred vision.

“I’m sorry.”

He only shook his head and pulled me into a hug.

The Day That I Married Her: The Chris and Annie Evans 2

Disclaimer: Hi everyone! Okay, so here is the second part of the mini-series! I hope you enjoy this one! Summary: Chris almost lost Annie, for his stupid arrogant ways.  Chris Evans/ Annie Evans (OC) Emma Evans Smut is in the chapter. So, this is a 18+ chapter. 

The Day that I Married Her

April 16, 2019

“Ummie!” Chris heard. Moaning, he rolled over and grabbed his phone. Opening one eye, he looked at the screen. Then looking towards the curtains, Chris noticed that the sun isn’t risen yet. And it was still dark out. Reaching for his phone on the nightstand, next to him, Chris sighed and rubbed the sleep off his eyes.

“5:10 am,” Chris read from his phone. Putting his phone back onto the nightstand, then letting out a long yawn, Chris rolled over to a cold side of the bed. Frowning, he looked over and realized that Annie had left for work hours ago.

“Shit, it’s Monday, Annie left for already,” Chris said to himself. Making one last yawn, he kicked the blanket off and got out of bed. After putting on a shirt, he took his phone, and he walked out of the bedroom. Making the short walk to Emma’s room, Chris walked in and was greeted with the most beautiful smile and with her hair all over the place.

“Oh, good morning, sunshine!” Chris said as he placed his phone on the drawer and picked her up.

“Ummie?” Emma asked. Chris kissed her cheek and placed her down.

“Mommy is at work,” Chris said, as he went to get a couple of her toys and gave them to her.

“Emma, what do we say?” Chris asked her. Emma smiled as she took her Peppa Pig from the pile of toys in front of her.

“Tank yooo!” Emma said as Chris laughed. While Emma played with her toys, Chris went to get her clothes for the day.

Beep….Beep

Chris sighed and picked up his phone and looked at the screen. One message was from Annie, and the other was a reminder.

1.       “Hi, babe, just a friendly reminder that today is our anniversary. Bella is coming over to watch Emma for the night. Love you, and I will see you later this afternoon. Oh, and if you didn’t notice, Dodger came with me to work. “ Annie

2.       Reminder: 9th Anniversary today, don’t forget DUMB ASS!

“Oh, Annie, you have no idea what’s coming to you tonight!” Chris said out loud. Smiling to himself, Chris finished getting the remainder of her clothes.

     Later in the evening, Chris was in the bedroom, getting ready, while Annie was in Emma’s room, putting their little girl to sleep Annie’s best friend Bella was on her way to the house, to babysit Emma for the night. After placing his shoes on, Chris went to the bathroom and did a few sprays of his Gucci Guilty.

April 15, 2011

It was cold, spring afternoon in Los Angeles, and Chris was sitting at a small café. His brother Scott, and along with his older sister Carly. Chris had just finished filming the new Marvel movie, Captain America, and had some downtime to spare. As he sat and looking at his water glass, Chris looked up to see his siblings looking at him, with concerned looks.

“What are you looking at?” Chris asked. Both Carly and Scott sighed.

“Chris, we know why, you are gloomy today,” Scott said. Chris leaned back against his chair and crossed his arms against his chest. At this point, Chris knew where this was going. Carly and Scott didn’t ask him, not only to have lunch but grill him about Annie. Chris sighed and ran his hands long his hair.

“And why would I be gloomy? I’m perfectly fine.” Chris said, defensively. Scott looked at his sister and then back to Chris.

“Alright, Mr. I’m okay, then you should know that Annie is getting married in two days,” Scott said, looking at his brother. Chris’s face started to turn red and felt his anger begin to rise. Carly sighed.

“See? I knew it, Scott. Christopher Robert Evan’s is still in love with her.” Carly said. Chris glared at his older sister.

“You know what, Carly? Just shut up. She made it VERY clear to me that she doesn’t want anything to do with me.” Chris said, sadly. Scott sighed and leaned forward to his brother.

“Chris, I didn’t want to tell you this, but me and Carly ran into her, just the other day.” Scott started, “And she asked about you. And it's clear that she isn’t over you.” Scott said. Chris rolled his eyes.

“As I said, Annie’s done with me,” Chris said, getting up from his chair. Scott sighed once more.

“Chris, sit down. I have something else to tell you.” Scott said, as he sat up too and looked at his brother straight in her face. Chris looked at him once more and sat down. After sitting down, Carly went digging in her purse, took out an envelope and handed it to her brother.

“Here, she told me to give this to you,” Carly said, holding out the envelope. Chris stared at the envelope that his sister Carly had handed to him. Sighing, Chris opened the letter and began to read it.

Chris,

I would have placed a ‘Hi, how are you? I hope that you are okay’, but that wouldn’t be logical, right? Anyways, I’ll get to the point here. I know that things didn’t work well for both of us. We both said hurtful things, and I’m sorry for that.

But the reason for this letter is, inform you that I am getting married in a couple of days. I just felt the need to let you know.

Annie.

After reading the letter, Chris felt that there was off. It felt like, even if she ended the relationship, this was her way of saying, ‘I miss you.’ Frowning, Chris crumpled up the letter and threw it on the table. Then slamming his fists onto the table, making everyone around him turn towards him.

“Chris, you better get your act together. People are looking at you!” Carly said, getting irritated at her brother. Chris sat up, looked at Carly and Scott, and walked out of the café. Reaching into his car and slamming the door behind him. Then, gripping onto the steering wheel, Chris closed his eyes and laid his forehead down.

“I’m sorry, Chris, I can’t do this anymore. I-I need to be away from you for a while,” He repeated in his head. Gripping his hands, on to the steering wheel with knuckles turning white, Chris let out his emotions that he held in for so long. The day that she walked out of his life was the day. His life fell apart.

       Ever since she left him, Chris's life has been a shit hole. Besides his acting career, Chris has been dating girls one after another. He even had one-night stands, every other weekend, to fill the void of being lonely. Also, if the girl was beautiful and kind, it wasn’t her. It wasn’t Annie, who could take of him, without asking, or who can give him want you want, without asking. Chris had gotten a call from the receptionist this morning, notifying him that his letter had arrived, he didn’t hesitate to drive right over. “Yeah, she just finished with a patient actually, would you like me to notify her that you wanted to speak with her?” Chris gave her a nod, the receptionist then dialed Dr. Holts number, passing along a few words as she then hung up. “Go right ahead, Mr. Evans.”

Chris thanked her as he walked into Dr. Holts office, “Good morning, Mr. Evans, is everything alright?”

Chris chuckled, “everything is fine actually.”

“and I’m assuming the project is going as planned so far?” Chris gave her a nod.

“I actually wanted to talk to about the project, though.”

“Oh?”

Chris cleared his throat, “I was thinking, maybe we can get P.O. boxes? That way, she won’t know my actual office and it’ll beat coming here all the time, especially if you guys so happen to be closed.”

Dr. Holt gave Chris a nod in agreement, “that’s a brilliant idea, I’ll have to talk to Dr. Hudson about it and make sure it’s something they’d be fine with, but I’ll get back to you about that.” Dr. Holt smiled, “thanks for that suggestion and I’m happy to hear that everything is working out well.” Dr. Holt couldn’t help but noticed this sort of light in Chris’s eyes, he seemed more excited than usual and that’s saying a lot.

“No problem,” Chris then said his goodbyes as he left the office, not forgetting to say goodbye to the receptionist on the way out.

Once again, Chris sat in his car, contemplating on the opening the letter. But soon his alarm rang, notifying him of the family brunch he had to attend, it looks like the letter was just going to have to wait.

 Chris tried not to speed on the way over to the small diner where his siblings had planned on meeting each other. He quickly parked his car and ran inside, “there he is! I almost thought he was going to ditch us!” Carly said with a smile as Chris sat across from her.

“I wouldn’t miss sibling time for the world,” Chris said with a smile.

“Maybe for those letters,” Carly said with a smirk.

“letters?” Scott asked as he raised his eyebrow.

Chris rolled his eyes, “it’s a project I’m doing to help my therapist. I basically now have a pen pal.”

“That’s a girl!” Carly blurted out.

“A girl??” Shana asked, “what’s her name?”

Chris sighed, “Julie and it’s nothing,” he looked at Carly with a stern look.

“Hmm,” Scott looked at his older brother with a raised eyebrow, “anyway, how was Halloween with the kids?”

“I swear sometimes I hate that holiday, the sugar rush afterward, dear lord!” Carly began to say as Shana nodded her head in agreement. Throughout the brunch they spoke about many things, just catching up. They tried their best to constantly do this whenever all four of them were free. They needed this time together; the siblings were close with each other.

Chris arrived at his home in Boston not too long after the brunch, he sat down on his couch as Dodger was quick to jump onto his lap. Smiling he gave his dog some attention before remembering about the letter that had been in his pocket. Chris quickly took it out of his pocket and opened the unusually thick envelope.

Yes, my random thoughts are normal, and I deserved that, I had no right on roasting you when I had just met you via letters. I’m just happy you have agreed to keep this mystery alive. It’s the only thing fueling my soul at the moment. The burning desire to find out what the heck is your last name is giving me the will to live! Apparently, I’m dramatic?

I have to say that my favorite customer so far must be Mr. William, a sweet old man, comes in every morning about nine and orders the same thing. Never changes. Always sits on the same stool by the counter and never makes a fuss. Now for the worst customer? Where do I even start?? I’ve had a couple of older customers that were male that have hit on me, in some inappropriate ways, but there wasn’t much I could do about it other than ignore it.

Yes, you can call me Jules.  My family tends to call me JuJu. They just always called me that, I guess. Nothing special about the nickname.

Highly doubt we are long lost cousins mostly due to the fact that most of my relatives are from Mexico or California. No family in Boston, from what I can recall but I am assuming that is where you are from? What’s the weather like in Boston? I’m sure it beats this heat here in California. I bet Winter in Boston is gorgeous! Man, am I excited for the winter! Even though, it isn’t much here, it still excites me. I’ll keep that in mind, Chris. We gave them the best lives.

Also, Oliver and Company is one of the best movies ever. Hands down! I am a die-hard Disney fan, for damn sure! I love anything Disney. I become a five-year old when it comes to Disney and I am slightly offended that you already want to be reassigned to someone else. I thought we had something, Chris. How dare you.

Two siblings. Older brothers, Robert and John. Robert is from my dad’s first marriage. I have no relation to him but he’s still my brother. Must be nice to have sisters, though. I’ve always wanted a sister, I got sisters-in-law now that I am older but when I was younger, I could’ve used a sister.

My parents divorce. To tell you the truth, I got a small anxiety attack when I saw your question. Talking about my parents’ divorce used to be so easy and less messy but now with everything that has happened recently, it’s messy. I’m not saying that I’m not over their divorce because I am it’s been over ten years now. I am so glad my dad divorced my mother, she was the worst. I hate to say it but she was. Anyways, you sitting down? Got some coffee? Tea? If you’re into that leaf water business. Alright, well, my parents divorced when I was only seven years old but it felt like they weren’t even together before that. Mostly because my mother was always so cold and distant, she never wanted to play with my and my brother John when we were children, even when we begged her would threaten to kill us.

It was to the point that she’d chase us around the house yelling that she was going to kill us, I remember vaguely, one time my father came home to that scene, the anger and hurt in his face, it pained me to see him that way. And I know it pained him to see the mother of his children, the women that begged for children, to see her yelling at her own children that she wanted to kill them. Now that I think about it, I highly believe that my mother suffered from Post-partum depression. But, then, I also think it was guilt for the mistakes she had made in her past.

Anyway, my parents divorced since my mother had cheated on my father, for the third time… that he knew of. To top it off it was with the pastor of a church we went to, close family friend as well. My dad got custody of me and my brother but allowed my mother to see us whenever she wanted, also told her she didn’t have to pay for child support. It upsets me to think about how my dad told her she could see us whenever she wanted and she only came by one or twice a week and when she was there, she never paid us any attention. She was always glued to her damn t.v. watching her telenovelas.

My dad got remarried when I was twelve, the same month of my dads wedding my mom got remarried as well. Suddendly my mother became more attentive towards me and my brother when I turned sixteen, I moved in with my mother because I had issues with my stepmom, which always resulted to us fighting until 3 in the morning and her almost slapping me. It began to cause problems for my dads’ marriage, so I decided to just take myself out of the equation and live at my mom’s. Sometimes I wish I could just go back in time and tell myself not to, but then I don’t know what would’ve happened with my dad if I had just stayed. What would’ve happened to me? Well, I probably know the answer to that.

  Chris couldn’t help but feel sorry for Julie, it must have been tough to have a distant mother as a child. Chris couldn’t help but wonder what drove a mother to want to kill their children, he felt tears welling up in his eyes, he felt this need to protect Julie. Yet, Chris was filled with gratitude for having such a loving mother. He only wished the same for Julie, but he had so many questions to her story, there was only one thing to do.

Just wanted to say that some of Julie’s life is based on mine so a lot of the OC characters will be like people from my actual life along with the description of Julie’s parent's divorce and childhood is an actual description of my life.

 I just felt like I can connect more towards this story that way and actually help myself with coping by imagining, what someone I look up to, would say about my situation. The main reason why I began writing this series in the first place.

Another Stronk lady - Car Mechanic Carlie Decker!

I made Carlie in mind for my other character Robert, who was a fella who actually dresses more feminine, and wanted his girlfriend to contrast in his profession of being a beauty vlogger. They're soon to be engaged as well~

So Carlie! She works for a garage that she lives nearby to along with her brothers and father. She definitely would proclaim that she's one of the lads, from how often she goes to pubs after the day and has a knack for darts. She has actually befriended Robert's roomates, Jordan and Dane, and also Robert's half-sister, Wren.
