Story - summarized
The Goddess of Desire was born from the depths of the abyss. The first desire she ever tasted was that of a dying flower begging for sunlight. Once it died, its voice drifted towards the Goddess, and she claimed it for her own. It was wonderful... but since it was brief, she wanted more.
As echoes of greedy memories grew louder, she grew in strength and power. Enough so that one day, when she encountered a particularly evil skeletal demon, she was able to give him a body. Now a fully formed demon, Nightbane the dark skeleton swore allegiance to the Goddess of Desire.
Much later, Leonid fell into the abyss. Nightbane and other monsters tried to get to him, but none of them could find any trace of evil within the mortal man. The Goddess, however, was powerful enough to detect a strange desire within him: to destroy Miraland.
This was a new, curious desire. She wanted it, and she wanted Leonid. She approached him with illusions of a perfect, beautiful world. The Goddess promised that she and Leonid could remake the world as they wanted if he would join her.
Leonid was tempted, but he managed to back away from her. But he remained trapped in the abyss. The Goddess of Desire expected him to crawl back to her any day now, begging for her help.
But a few days later, Leonid gathered all his power and escaped from the abyss. She tried chasing after him, but he cast a net of light that burned her if she touched it. She was trapped in the abyss.
Nightbane offered to help her escape. His power wasn’t strong enough, but he could create the perfect vessel for her to inhabit. Eventually, he came to serve Queen Lilith. Once all the pieces are in place, he lets the Goddess of Desire approach Lilith. She is more than eager to make a deal with her... but a figment of Ashley appears and tries to stop the deal. The Goddess burns her to ashes, and they finish the deal.
“Lilith” is now ready for the coronation ceremony the next day.
Connections
-The Goddess of Desire’s Reflection and Leonid’s angel one are two halves of the same story. They are best read one after the other.
-Nikki glimpses a vision of the Goddess approaching Lilith in the palace. It’s one of the last illusions she has to face during the hell event’s main story (Vol. 1, Finale, Part 9).
-Nightbane’s first attempt to create a vessel for the Goddess of Desire was during Soul Magic: he tried crafting a doll of pure evil and beauty for her, but instead he created the angelic doll that became Ashley.
-The Goddess of Desire has been defeated twice thanks to Leonid: the first time when he left the abyss, and the second time when his successor (Nikki) figured out the manuscript he left behind.
-When the Goddess of Desire conjures up the memory of the Starheaven Swan fire, Ashley and Lilith coexist for a moment. In Volume 2, Ashley comes back to Miraland as her own persona.
Fun Facts
-Apples commonly appear in mythology as a symbol of love, lust, or temptation.
-Also, white and black traditionally stand for purity and darkness, respectively. Here, their symbolic meanings switch: the Goddess’ white color stands for illusion and dazzling evil, and Leonid’s black feathers represent the abyss and hidden truth.
-When the Goddess of Desire is finally freed from the abyss, she sends out earthquakes and natural destruction. She is fulfilling the desire that Leonid never could.

Chapter 5: Break of Moonlight
Narrated by Leonid.
Narrator: I was left alone again in the church, shrouded in darkness.
Narrator: The hustle and bustle from endless time and space echoed down the empty hall. It eagerly shouted, beckoning.
Narrator: On that shadowy altar, no god could respond to everything.
Narrator: I’m ready.
Narrator: Her white dress was reflected on the ground once again. The Goddess of Desire appeared in front of me with an expectant smile.
Narrator: The white illusion is glorious, but dull.
Narrator: I raised my hand, and the darkness wrapped around my fingertips to blur the angel wings on the paper.
Goddess of Desire: Are you ready?
Narrator: Innocent eyes reflected the abyss, revealing the truth under the illusion and the avarice to devour all in her heart.
Narrator: I bid you farewell.
Goddess of Desire: You’re... saying goodbye?
Narrator: Her eyes widened in astonishment, and the illusion was shaken. It peeled off the black darkness.
Goddess of Desire: Why? What is your deepest desire? Must you forsake the grand destruction, the eternal new world?
Leonid: That’s not what I want.
Leonid: The new world you’ve created is a lie.
Goddess of Desire: So what?
Narrator: She squinted, reached her hand out, and a petal fell gently onto her palm. Her voice was soft.
Goddess of Desire: Destroy the world and you can create one that belongs to you, Leonid.
Goddess of Desire: I can help you.
Narrator: She was bitter and struggled to restrain herself, her sweet voice shaking with anger, like a child who didn’t get a new toy.
Narrator: Perhaps no one has ever rejected her before.
Leonid: You wouldn’t understand.
Narrator: Taking control and ruling everything also means giving up and letting go of it all.
Narrator: But the gods don’t understand desire. I paused and didn’t explain.
Narrator: The dark, surging tide coalesced behind me, calling for me to open my wings. I gave her one last look as the tide roared.
Narrator: Dark feathers fell into the abyss, gleaming with starlight.
Narrator: The strange echoes of the abyss never stop, like how the human instinct to pursue beauty continues.
Leonid: Goodbye.
Narrator: The all-consuming darkness churned with bright stars. The shouts fell apart, turning into prayers.
Narrator: I did not visit her again. Her body rushed forward, surrounded by dazzling flames. It was like the sun rising over the sea.
Narrator: The Ocean of Memories ushered in the sunrise, and the stars dimmed.
Narrator: When I broke out of the abyss, it was not only the brilliant starry sea that greeted me.
Narrator: This boundless sea of human consciousness has been turbulent and unpredictable since it first came into existence.
Narrator: The storm that followed made the starry sky fall, and almost every civilization was dragged into eternal calamity.
Choose “What happened?”
You: What happened?
Leonid: The Ocean of Memories ushered in a war that ended with the fall of a god, who is now in a deep slumber.
Leonid: I don’t mind talking with you now that you remember everything.
You: ...
Narrator: I began observing civilizations again. In the past, I never tried to understand the charm of particular individuals.
You: Is destruction still bound to come?
Leonid: I’ve traveled through endless time and space, trying to capture that small variable.
Narrator: After a short journey, I finally heard an answer to the question that all civilizations have asked when I fell into the abyss.
Narrator: It came from a girl from the future. I’m waiting for her birth.
Narrator: I will guide her to this land so she can show me a world I have never seen before.
You: Is that Nikki?
Leonid: At this moment, you have already met.
Narrator: Afterward, I still sought the connection between the Ocean of Memories and Miraland.
Narrator: I went back to where I had been, when Leonid’s name was the talk of Miraland.
Narrator: But that has nothing to do with my new journey. I won’t respond to them. I just want to know what society was like.
Narrator: Time flew by, and one afternoon, I met my new student for the first time.
Narrator: His voice was childlike and clear, and the gleam in his eye was inexplicably familiar.
Boy: I want to be the most amazing artist, Mister. I want to be just like the legendary Mr. Leonid!
Narrator: A small desire emerged in the abyss.
Narrator: I won’t fulfill everyone’s desires, but I don’t mind sowing the seed of fate and seeing how it grows.
Leonid: What is your name?
Boy: Modric, sir.
Narrator: What kind of starlight will come from this desire?
Narrator: You’ll see eventually.
