II. Jaquette en loutre ajustée à basque longue, se composant d’un dos, de petits côtés de dos, et d’un devant croisé garni de boutons de strass et fermé par une sous-patte. Col Médicis, manches unies garnies au bas d’un bouton de strass. Chapeau drapé en velours rubis orné de plumes fantaisie noires et de boucles de strass.

III. Vêtement en loutre et zibeline, se composant d’un corps de collet bordé de zibeline retombant en étole devant et terminé par plusieurs queues. Ce joli vêtement est doublé de satin blanc. Chapeau de feutre noir orné d’une draperie de velours noir et d’un paradisier sur le côté, reposant sur les cheveux, touffe de chrysanthèmes blancs.

IV. Sortie de bal en soie brochée, mauve et blanche. Ce vêtement, d’une forme ample, est doublé de satin blanc, froncé du haut sur un empiècement de zibeline, entouré d'une berthe coupée en forme bordée de dentelle, terminé devait par un coquillé retombant jusqu'au bas et entouré de bandes de zibeline; col Médicis en zibeline. Mat.: 12 mèt. de soie.

V. Collet arrondi du dos formant la pointe devant, se composant d’un empiècement en hermine bordé d'un volant en loutre coupé en forme; col réversible en hermine; doublure en satin ivoire.

VI. Le Manchon assorti au collet en hermine, bordé de chaque côté d’un volant de loutre, est orné d'une petite tête et est doublé de satin ivoire.

III. Pelerine in otter and sable, consisting of a collar body lined with sable falling in a stole in front and finished with several tails. This pretty garment is lined with white satin. Black felt hat decorated with black velvet drapery and a paradise tree on the side, resting on the hair, tuft of white chrysanthemums.

IV. Ball cape in brocade silk, mauve and white. This cape, of a loose shape, is lined with white satin, gathered from the top on a sable yoke, surrounded by a berthe cut in shape edged with lace, finished with a shell falling to the bottom and surrounded by bands sable; Medici collar in sable. Mat.: 12 met. of silk.

V. Rounded collar of the back forming the point in front, consisting of an ermine yoke edged with a shaped otter ruffle; reversible ermine collar; ivory satin lining.

VI. Muff matching the ermine collar, bordered on each side with an otter frill, is decorated with a small head and is lined with ivory satin.

"A Chicken in Every Pot" political ad and rebuttal article in New York Times

This is the advertisement that caused Herbert Hoover's opponents to state that he had promised voters a chicken in every pot and two cars in every garage during the campaign of 1928. During the campaign of 1932, Democrats sought to embarrass the President by recalling his alleged statement. According to an article in the New York Times (10/30/32), Hoover did not make such a statement. The report was based on this ad placed by a local committee -- which only mentions one car!

A Chicken for Every Pot [handwritten] World[?] 30 October 1928 [/handwritten] The Republican Party isn't a [italics] "Poor Man's Party:" [/italics] Republican prosperity has erased that degrading phrase from our political vocabulary. The Republican Party is [italics] equality's [/italics] party -- [italics] opportunity's [/italics] party -- [italics] democracy's [/italics] party, the party of [italics] national [/italics] development, not [italics] sectional [/italics] interests-- the [italics] impartial [/italics] servant of every State and condition in the Union. Under higher tariff and lower taxation, America has stabilized output, employment and dividend rates. Republican efficiency has filled the workingman's dinner pail -- and his gasoline tank [italics] besides [/italics] -- made telephone, radio and sanitary plumbing [italics] standard [/italics] household equipment. And placed the whole nation in the [italics] silk stocking class. [/italics] During eight years of Republican management, we have built more and better homes, erected more skyscrapers, passed more benefactory laws, and more laws to regulate and purify immigration, inaugurated more conservation measures, more measures to standardize and increase production, expand export markets, and reduce industrial and human junk piles, than in any previous quarter century. CBS made public the transcript of the dramatization, which was aired the night of October 30, 1938, and caused thousands of listeners to panic because of the realistic broadcast of an imaginative invasion of men and machines from Mars.

The hysteria was nowhere near as great as the media claimed.
