Here’s an idea: Falcon owning a Greavard, Samus owning a Maschiff and Fox owning a Fidough. Alternatively, because of how obsessed I am with the Proto Beasts and Neo Swords, Walking Wake and Iron Leaves taking care of a Fidough, Gouging Fire and Iron Boulder taking care of a Maschiff and Raging Bolt and Iron Crown taking care of a Greavard. Or, even better, we combine both ideas somehow

Arven x Gn! Reader

You LOVE dog Pokémon, and he LOVES his Mabosstiff. Need I say more?

So you know pretty much everything about each puppy Pokémon and their evolutions, including the Paldean doggos

While he knows enough about his own Mabosstiff, he’s impressed when you go on about facts of each dog Pokémon, especially when you remember particular natures and signature attacks that let each doggo shine

He’ll definitely ask a question or two about the Maschiff line if he doesn’t know it already. It may help him better care of his Mabosstiff!

He might get into the research himself if he is so inclined to, and will definitely ask you for recommendations when the two of you are studying together

He loves watching your face light up at the sight of any dog Pokémon, and is more than thrilled when you treat Mabosstiff with a similar level of care and love he would give him

Sometimes Mabosstiff will cuddle with you to get Arven to come join

At first he thinks his best bud has chosen you over him, which will make him feel rejected

Until you look at him and let him know “I think he wants you to come join the snuggle pile”

He embarrassingly shuffles over to join you, and is more than relieved when he discovers you were right

No matter which dog Pokémon is in your party, he will open up to it eventually

He doesn’t want his Mabosstiff to think he is leaving him so he’s very careful about this

You on the other hand, you love ALL the doggos

You’ve probably got one of each already (Growlithe, Rockruff, Houndour, Fidough, Greavard, and Maschiff lines), so you understand how each one can differ in behavior and attitude

No matter which one is your favorite line, he will respect it

He is just happy to see you enjoying the companionship of a doggo as much as he does

It may depend on the type of doggo, but if there is one in your party it will eventually get along with Mabosstiff (some natures take time to get along, of course)

If the nature and the timings are right, one of you might find an egg in your basket

Depending on how either of you feel about Pokémon breeding, you are both willing to care for the egg and see it through to hatching

You are the more careful Pokémon breeder because of your extensive research, so he may feel more comfortable letting you handle it

Now when it hatches, both of you are willing to discuss who should keep it

You want to encourage him to explore more with Pokémon, but not without his consent to do so first

Regardless of who the puppy ends up with, the puppy will always be loved and cared for dearly

He feels more than blessed to have a partner who sees the great companionship in a Mabosstiff (and the other dog Pokémon)

•Hc ages, Wallace, Geeta, and Lance are both around 32-35 (Lance is the older one between them). Steven, Cynthia, Diantha, and Leon are all around 28-31 (Leon is the younger one, Diantha is the oldest between em). Hau is 15 and Iris is 17

-I have Hau as my Alola champion bc idk I think he deserves it hahah

•Diantha and Lance are easily susceptible of Iris' and Hau's puppy eyes and get dragged into their hijinks

-the ones who can somewhat resits them are Wallace, Geeta, and Steven

-Cynthia is an enabler, and Leon somehow knows when to say no to their shenanigans bc he has experience as an older brother

•the other champions are honestly a bit unnerved by Geeta, she knows this too but made no effort to change it, she thinks it's entertaining

-the others just try to keep up w her for Diantha

-Lance couldn't tho, Geeta just gets on his nerves and vice verse, tho the two do try to get along for Diantha

-its honestly very comical cause one second they're almost killing each other and the second Diantha walks in they'd both stop and laugh and smile w each other bc they know Dia would get sad if they fight 

•they all have their own little group chat and it's honestly just Steven setting up the dates for their meet ups and Cynthia and Wallace at each other's throats

-Diantha just loves the drama going on between those two, she thinks their petty arguments are entertaining

•Hau and Iris have this solidarity of being raised by their own respective grandfather

-Iris helps Hau cope w it, that at least there's still people who loves them, and hey they're family now too, together w the other champions

-theyre siblings to me your honour pls they mean so much to me

•Steven cherishes the other champions so much because it's the first ever friend group he has that doesn't make fun of him for his love of rare stones

-its really the only friend group he has that doesn't make fun of anything about him in general

-also the only friend group that doesn't use his status as heir to the Devon Corp for the fame and fortune

•Geeta almost doesn't have any concept of empathy whatsoever so her actions seems like she's being an asshole

-she's trying not to be, really, but that's just how she grew up and hey at least they're kinda trying?? To help her??

-well, she's really not like that w Diantha, or rather she feels more empathy solely for Diantha, and to the others that's better than nothing

•out of the public eye, Diantha isn't as elegant of a trainer as people perceived her to be

-i would ramble abt this but it'll be long na so hey send another ask if you want hahah

•other than their native languages and the universal languages Unovan and Galarian, there are a few champions that are fluent in other languages 

-Wallace can speak two other languages, Kalosian and Sinnohan

-Diantha can speak three, as it's often part of an act or she was taught back then, with those being: Paldean, Ransean, and Sinnohan

-surprisingly, Hau also knows three, altho he can't speak some of them, with those being: Kantonian, Hoennian, and Orrean

-Geeta can speak Kalosian and a little bit of Almian

-spare me tho, I made own adjectives for the other regions since there's nothing much abt em in the wikipage

Greavard Facts

-The scientific name for Greavard is "Spiritus canis" which translates to "Spirit dog"

-While similar to Litwick, there is no evidence of these pokemon being related. Even with that however, some Paldean myths say that these two are connected

-A lot of trainers are worried about their Greavard stealing their life force and will keep away from it or keep them in their Pokeballs. But there is a way to play with it without your life force being drained. If the candle is small, they’re well-fed and will not take your life force. If large, keep away from them, as that’s when the candle is taking your life force

-While a lot of people assume that the Greavard hiding in the ground have sinister intentions, Greavard actually do this as a way to sleep and to say hello to trainers/pokemon that pass by

-Greavard have beady little eyes that can't see well

-Greavard have very good memory, and are able to remember anyone they play with, no matter how long ago it was

-Greavard were discovered 5,000 years ago when the first settlers of Paldea arrived

-In a lot of beliefs, Greavard are seen as partners with Houndstone, with both of them bringing people to the afterlife

-Greavard are very prone to separation anxiety

-A nickname for Greavard in Paldea and a region south of Unova is "el cadejo." The nickname implies something more sinister, however, since there are myths of Greavard purposely stealing people's souls, and the people who wrote those myths would refer to them in that term

-Greavard fur is very prone to getting dirty, and it should be cleaned regularly

-While nothing can prove this, many beliefs state that Greavard evolve at night from the energy of the moon. While this might not be true, a cool fact is that the moon phases were named after different stages of greaving (an old name for making candles) is neat, considering that Greavard is a candle dog

-Their mouths are strong and sharp enough to break bone with ease

Best Pokémon Gym Leader Tournament- Round 1: Match 16

Our final match this round sees some very experienced trainers going head-to-head!

Kabu is our 2nd from bottom seed, at 31, but the Ever-Burning Man of Fire will not go down easy! A man from Hoenn but fought in Galar, he's used to defeat but is better known for glorious redemption. He once dropped to the minor league, and even lost the Gym Leader position before- but he came back stronger! His no-holds-barred approach makes him infamous for making many challengers give up on their gym challenge. Will he rise from the ashes to defeat Ryme?

Speaking of, Ryme, the MC of RIP earned an extremely impressive 2nd place seed- falling behind only her fellow Paldean leader Larry! She took over the Montenevera gym after her older sister Tyme passed on the mantle. Ryme's rapping is legendary, she literally revived her dead puppy pokémon as a ghost when she was a teen- and she's been rapping for the four decades since. It's still said she brings the dead to their feet through her music, due to the emotion and passion she raps with. Her rapping is legendary, will she do legendarily well in this competition?

Henlo, back at it again! While thinking about some stuff, here's what i imagined for this AU for the Area Zero Squad:

- Nemona: Were-Lycanroc, a rather big monster with Nemona's battle love cranked up to 11. Once aggressive to everyone and everything with an impressive will to fight, gets "tamed" after the protag defeats her and gets recognized. Now less bloodthirsty and a big puppy (at least to her friends), although still wants to challenge everyone... Nemona doesn't know she exists.

Arven: Were-Skwovet, calmer than Nemona's Alter Ego, and usually won't attack... unless you have bad intentions or you look at Mabosstif funny. He's *really* protective of him. Can be found around Paldea stealing Berries and other food, although no-one knows what for...Arven knows of his existence, due to somehow remembering his transformations.

Penny: Were-Glaceon, an incredibly reclusive and shy monster, she only attacks if her personal spaces are invaded. Becomes a bit more outgoing after Penny's storyline, although only with her friends. Her Vees see her as a sort-of kin, for obvious reasons (and they aren't in danger). Penny knows of her existence, not because she remembers her transformations, but for other clues around her room (I mean, if i woke up with ruined clothes, a slight coat of ice on the walls and pawprints around the floor, I would have a few doubts)

The protagonist can be what you want, there's no specific mon for him/her!

Oh, and they're a pack, because it fits.

(Note: i still think that Arven's Mon is not the right one... any ideas?)

Drew the designs for Nemona and Penny!! Decided Nemona would be a dusk form Lycanroc bc Orange. Love all the stuff u wrote, I especially dig how some are aware they’re werewolves (awarewolves?) and others just have no idea. Makes for some really fun stories :3c. Didn’t draw Arven bc I can’t decide what he would be either. I’ll keep brainstorming!!!

Anyway some assorted headcanons:

- How animalistic u look is determined by how much tera energy ur normally in contact with. For people like Nemona who are constantly using a tera orb, their transformation is more dramatic. For someone like Penny, who rarely uses a tera orb and isn’t a paldean native (less access to environmental tera energy) the transformation is relatively mild. The professor? When they transform, it’s impossible to tell they were human at all

- Nemona hears about the terrifyingly strong beast in the forest and keeps going out to fight it, only to wake up on the ground all scratched up in the forest at sunrise. She starts to think the beast knows Hypnosis for its uncanny ability to put her to sleep. Somehow, despite the obvious connections, she never realizes she’s the beast in question

- Being a werewolf doesn’t change your personality or what you want, just your inhibitions and manners. Nemona always wanted to battle her heart out, but never could bc of various social conventions, so during her transformation all that pent up energy is released and she just goes bonkers. Penny transforms and no one knows bc she still never leaves her room

- Penny sets up a camera after the first transformation because she’s shocked a Glaceon so large could wreck her room without waking her up. When it happens a second time after the next full moon, she now has video evidence— only to realize it’s HER. She initially panics, then realizes all she does is eat leftover pizza right out of the box and hide under the bed the whole time which is what she would do anyway if sleep deprived enough. She elects to just lock all her doors and windows and never tell anyone, since she’s unaware that werewolves are a Thing in paldea

- Whatever Arven is, Mabosstiff keeps him in check. Also now that I think about it, maybe Arven is an artificial werewolf? His parent tried to get him to be a werewolf on purpose so he could better adapt to “paradise”, so maybe he’s a Cyclizar? With the professors being the ‘raidons? in that case maybe Arven has different transformation rules and stuff. I’ll think abt it more

- No one except the protagonist and possibly a few trainers (Geeta, some of the professors?) know the beast attacking people in the forest is a werewolf. Nemona is fast and her transformation is pretty beastly looking anyway, so in the thick of battle everyone thinks she’s just a really big pokemon. It’s only people who manage to defeat her / tire her out that can slow her down enough to see that she has a humanoid shape and might be more than just a Very Large Dog

- I’m lame and love emotion based transformations, so I think the adults can control their shifting to various extents but the kids can’t. The more emotionally well adjusted you are, the easier time you have controlling yourself, to the point where some adults even have control over their shifting during full moon nights

saw emery make a new journeys team for ash and wanted to take a crack at it + idea for his horizons team

journeys:

inteleon: chose this as the starter he gets because i like the idea of there being an arc of him taking this very timid pokemon that wants to be strong but feels too weak to make a difference and ash is the one that helps it gain confidence. was also gonna say that it could look up to leon's inteleon but i'm assuming that leon would only have rillaboom like it is in the games rather than all three starters

flapple: i originally chose this to be the sweeper that ash tends to prefer before realizing oh wait flapple's speed is actually kinda mediocre. still like it as a choice for him though

falinks: stealing emery's idea here because i'm biased and falinks is my favourite gen 8 pokemon. emery mentioned dracovish being the "oddball" choice for ash but i think falinks fits that better since dracovish is (was?) very popular in competitive scenes. idk man i just like falinks

alcremie: fuck mr mime ash deserved to have an actual fairy type. again stealing emery's idea of it being the same one from the cake episode because that's the episode that made me start to really like alcremie

perrserker: honestly so disappointed that matori's alolan meowth never showed up again after sun and moon so here's my continuation of that with ash getting a galarian meowth. i think it has comedic potential with it loving team rocket's meowth (contrast to matori's meowth being a cunt) but tr's meowth fucking hates it. also perrserker is just a good pokemon and i think it suits him

honourable mentions:

toxtricity: either form could work. i liked the idea of ash getting a toxel egg and raising it but i forgot that there's this unspoken rule that ash can't have any other electric type besides pikachu so i scrapped it

stonjourner: another choice for the "weird" team member. don't really have much reasoning behind this one other than i think it would be kinda cute in a strange way?

mr rime: instead of them retconning delia's mr mime, ash instead gets a galarian mr mime and evolves it. if leon still has his mr rime then there could be a rivalry there maybe?

horizons:

quaquaval: typically i consider fuecoco to be the most ash-like starter, but i really love the idea of arven being a potential companion and i think he should get fuecoco because of it being food-themed. i could honestly see ash getting both too but i prefer this. i don't think he would get sprigatito though, though i think meowscarada suits him too

armarouge: taking horizons and paldean winds into account, i think scarlet is considered to be the canon version that the anime would follow. also if we use amethio as a stand-in for the rival (or hell he could still be there) then i think ash getting armarouge would contrast nicely with his ceruledge

houndstone: alright hear me out: ash gets a houndstone, female companion gets a dachsbun (or vice versa really), arven has his mabosstiff. ahh ahhh i'm roatating it in my midn it's beautfiul *puppy dog town* *puppy dog village* ***cuppy dog city*** i wanna i wanna go ahhh

dudunsparce: let's finally give this man his dunsparce. he can even have a three-segment version as a treat

koraidon: come on it's the sv box legendary of course he has to have that. same reasoning as armarouge for choosing koraidon over miraidon. i promise this isn't my favouritism speaking

honourable mentions:

bombirdier: the weird choice. emery and i had a joke about ash owning a bombirdier that would randomly kidnap babies (evil stork) and hijinks ensue and i was so tempted to go with it because of that but ultimately decided against it. if not ash then i think this should've been on team rocket's paldean team

do you have any recommendations for a first time trainers pokemon? specifically dark types

alolan meowth and persian are just as easy to care for as kantonian meowth and persian (though they can be a little more fickle and naughty, they're not actually malicious pokemon.) the breed is more prone to nose and mouth problems than kantonian persian due to their flatter faces, but they're not an inherently unhealthy breed and pokecenter trips should be all that's required.

maschiff and mabostiff are of course popular paldean dark types, very loyal, very gentle with families! (houndour/houndoom and poochyena/mightyena are more popular canine dark types but a lot of people get them and then don't properly train them which lets the aggression issues they're prone to get really out of hand, i do not recommend either for starters, so many people think "oh they're just puppies" and then don't train them and then they evolve into large, dangerous pokemon that need to be surrendered because they bite people.) maschiff and mabostiff are much less prone to aggression and don't have these issues, and are easier to train. there are also lots of stray maschiff and mabostiff and you can find lots in paldean shelters and rescues which i always support.

stunky and skuntank get a bad rap for stinking up areas, but there are domestic stunky that are bred to have less awful-smelling poison and they don't actually spray unless threatened (which you can also train them not to do usually) and there are specific shampoos and washes for getting stunky scent out of things that you can also use on a stunky to get it to smell nice. and once you get over the stank hurdle they're very peaceful and lazy pokemon! they're nocturnal so they sleep a lot (in the wild they sleep in dens/burrows so they like little covered beds), they're omnivorous and can eat just about anything, and they're some of the most relaxed, unbothered, in their lane, non-aggressive dark types you'll meet. i've had the displeasure of cleaning stunky-sprayed pokemon before but i've also met stunky and skuntanks in person and they're just so chill, they really have no anxiety or aggression at all they're just sort of fat and lazy
