Alright so after some thinking about it the end of wano was... just bad. Just really bad. Let’s not talk about some of the rushed fights in the raid or how certain deaths were shit, the ending as in after the raid and peace has reigned was just GARBAGE. The ending wrap up chapters in the first place were just... way too short. We got 5 chapters. FIVE. An arc that spanned 4 years and a month gave us 5 chapters to conclude loose ends. For context Post Enis Lobby was 11 chapters, The Post War arc was 17. And a part of those FIVE chapters was literally Shanks showing up for a movie tie in (Yes Oda admited that). There was absolutely no sense of relaxation and chill after such a chaotic time, it was just go go go! We gotta wrap up!! Like how many loose ends are left now? The smile victims? Couldn’t we have the three doctors on the island look into that? Or at least Chopper? Just gonna sweep that under the rug? What about the beast pirate remnants? Sure Greenbull attacked SOME but are they still on Wano? Did he kill ALL of them?? Are they prisoners? Is Yamato keeping them in line? We’re just never gonna talk about the once largest pirate crew in the world ever again? Okay... What about Marco? Surely he wasn’t just there to literally drop off Cat Viper and stall for time right? Oh he was? He didn’t even talk to the Straw Hats after the raid? Cool cool, glad he served such an important role... Now don’t get me wrong, there was some hype stuff like the road poneglyph and underwater old Wano and Pluton being there but like... That’s all? That’s all we get from the biggest arc to date? Think about all the revelations in the old post-major arc cooldown chapters, all the hype all the EVERYTHING that Wano just doesn’t have...  Oh but Kid mentioned a vague person who could help him with the poneglyph etchings... Cool... That’s definitely up there with the reveal of Garp. Now all this isn’t even to mention the absolute CHARACTER ARC ASSASSINATIONS Carrot and Yamato got. Carrot was basically an unnamed background character this whole arc. What did she do? She was there I guess. She lost to Perospero... Great. And what does she get at the end? “Oh you’re the new leader of Zou now... It’s because of Pedro’s will” NO IT FUCKING ISN’T!!! For one that is NOT what Pedro wanted at all! You can’t just say it’s Pedro’s will and have that justify anything! Carrot didn’t even WANT the leadership role, she argued against it! She’s not qualified to lead, she’s not the strongest, she is all wrong for the role! Hell, it’s almost like she’s being PUNISHED for chasing her dreams with the Straw Hats! Like shes being told to sit down and not bother. Just stay at home where it’s safe little bunny. Garbage... And Yamato? The person who the ENTIRE TIME he’s been on screen has told us “I wanna go out to sea!” just... says on Wano now. Literally a chapter before he decided to explore Wano he was talking about leaving but nope! Fooled you! What the HELL. And this isn’t the Yamato fanboy in me either, his ENTIRE ARC was about LEAVING. He couldn’t with Ace, he was chained and his freedom stolen, and now he finally gets his chance after 20 YEARS and “Nope. I gotta do what Oden did and explore Wano first.” Bitch WHAT??? The why were you talking about joining the crew so much? Why did you demand it of Luffy and say it in front of the crew? What CHANGED Yamato??? This is another character just feeling like he was shoved away and punished. And you know what? Oda could have made it work!! If he wasn’t rushing at LIGHTNING SPEED to end Wano we could have had time with Yamato figuring out he needed to stay. He could have seen a small bit of Wano, saw all the different regions, saw their varying climates, discovered he knew FAR LESS about Wano than he thought! He could have organically come to the conclusion he wasn’t ready to leave yet! There was so much to explore RIGHT HERE! That would still have been a bit of a slap in the face, but it would have been more natural than just randomly changing his mind. I don’t know what this was. Normally Oda doesn’t feel the need to rush like this, he takes his time to tell a story properly no matter how long it takes. He is not concerned with time, but in Wano’s case it was different. I don’t know if it was Film Red that did it, editorial interference (don’t quote me on this but I think he got new editors during Wano), or just plain burnout but this was just so subpar for Oda... It really leaves a bad taste in my mouth for Wano, a damn shame.

Sanji is your sister single
Brook stealing the poneglyphs: "what, like it's hard?"
he deserves to see some panties for that
some episodes were SO long i skipped so much but it wasn't as bad as Dressrosa. rip to the anime only people who sit through that
this arc reminded me once again how much i love Nami for her trust in Luffy and how badass she can yell out commands if needed. queen shit. i love their friendship and bond
also was once again reminded how many allies the Strawhats have. makes me really excited for the final saga when we see them all come together probably?
Luffy smashing that mirror? yeah

Chapter 1056 — Cross Guild
The slice-of-life wind-down when and arc is nearing its end is really nice. It’s lovely to just… see the interactions, follow the banter, laugh at how stupid Kid and Luffy are being and maybe drool a bit over Law. Gnrk.
I’m also really enjoying the cover story! Katakuri and Oven to the rescue of WCI! Wonder how it’ll pan out? The lesser minions were of no consequence for Germa; how about one commander and one high-ranking minister? The brothers are looking somewhat intimidated while Reiju floats away.
Tumblr media
Not looking good for Raizo and Shinobu! Luckily enough, they have the Mink Wundermedischine available. No, I’m not salty over that particular cop-out. Nor Chopper’s robbed medical glory. Not at all.
(Fun fact: both’s proportions are down to more normal-human now. Will it hold?)
One thing I’ve really enjoyed these past chapters is the lightheartedness. All the anger and destruction from the fight is gone, leaving us with the humour and (bad) jokes that really make One Piece shine. Like Carrot…
Tumblr media
A few things:
The “Wait, what?” here is amazing.
And then. The difficult question. Carrot’s future.
I appreciate the symbolism of Nekomamushi and Inuarashi finding each other after 20 years and leaving a unified Zou in the care of someone young, who, like them, has seen something of the world.
As far as we know, not many Minks have left Zou: there’s Dog and Cat, Pedro and Zepo’s pirate crew (which got annihilated as far as I understood their flashback), Bepo who left to look for Zepo and then… nothing, until Carrot. When Nekomamushi and Inuarashi left and Oden returned, the exchange also gave the impression that what they had done had been different and unexpected – and they didn’t really know a thing about sailing or the sea, as evidenced by their shipwreck on Wano. Having a ruler who’s been out there is a good call.
And I like the statement that you don’t have to be the strongest to be the leader, or the oldest. It’s fine to trust someone stronger there to help you protect, while you lead.
And then they go and spoil it by referencing Pedro’s spirit. Pedro, who wanted to leave with Roger. Pedro, who left to be a pirate. Pedro, who came back a failure (in his own eyes). Pedro, who left Zou once more and sacrifice himself for the dawn of the world. What exactly is the spirit to carry here?
I expect Carrot and the Minks to show up at the final battle to support Luffy.
Speaking of Luffy…
Tumblr media
Character interactions are gold in this chapter. “You want this terrible weapon of mass destruction which the biggest players in the world are desperately looking for?”, “Nope, I’ll do it without any perks.” Not sure about having Usopp asleep: it’d be nice to see what his attitude would be! Would he agree with Luffy or try to get them to use the weapon to get to Laugh Tale sooner / safer? Has he grown into a brave warrior of the seas yet?
I’m confused, however, I thought Pluton was a different one from the battle ship? After a quick check on the One Piece fandom wiki, I stand corrected: “Pluton is one of the three Ancient Weapons, alongside Poseidon and Uranus. Pluton is a highly advanced warship capable of mass destruction, labelled the World's Worst Battleship (世界最悪の戦艦 Sekai Saiaku no Senkan) […] The battleship is said to be capable of destroying whole islands in a single shot” (One Piece wiki, Pluton). Furthermore, what I hadn’t realised but which is obvious in hindsight, is that “because the blueprints remained in existence even after the ship was built, whoever possessed the blueprints to the vessel would have the potential to build a fleet of vessels with the same destructive abilities as each other.“ (One Piece wiki, Pluton). Duh.
If I have things right, then: The original warship called Pluton was built during the void century. It is Used For a Purpose and left in Wano, where walls are erected, submerging it through the centuries. The Kozuki clan makes the poneglyphs. The Nefertari family declines Celestial Dragon-status in Mariejois, staying in Alabasta instead. The Kozuki clan leaves a Poneglyph in Alabasta, telling future Nefertari descendants where to find the weaponized ship.
Now I’m on board again.
I wonder if Robin took Franky down there to look at the ship, since he had the blueprints for so long?
(Spolier alert: Raizo and Shinobu’s transformations held)
In a way I really like that Shinobu’s attitude hasn’t changed. She’s always been an alluring, mature lady. I don’t know what to think about her glow-up, though, nor her comments regarding it. To be continued.
Tumblr media
And Otama is so cute! I really hope we get to see a post-script when One Piece is finished, when they sail around some more and she joins their ship for reals :)
And Nami! With clothes! Somewhat coutnered by Shinobu’s outfit, but I’ll take what I can get!
Tumblr media
Caribou is still creepy AF. Who is he talking about? He’s been stuck on Wano since he defended the Old Lady With The Pies in his cover story, and as far as we know, before that, he was just a rookie in the Grand Line? Has he teamed up with Apoo, selling stories to Morgans?
Also, have a Kin-compilation, since he’s just so sweet (and trademark-ignorant) this chapter:
Tumblr media
And then, the highlight of this whole sequence of chapters:
Tumblr media
CAPTAIN TRIO! And happy Bepo in the background.
But just look! Look at them! Kid, being all serious with his hand on his leg, arguing with Luffy, squatting on a crate to have the dream of a chance to be on the same level as Kid and…
…Law. Oooooh, yesssssss. I didn’t know how much I needed Law in a tank top. Fan artists rejoice! The dude knows how to do his fanservice.
Sad to hear Law thinking the alliance is over, but it’ll be interesting to see where they end up!
Tumblr media
And seeing that brain in action is just… gnrk.
To get back to the matter at hand, which is chapter analysis: I do question Law’s comment about north-east being the most direct route. Direct to where?
However, one thing I didn’t think of but someone on Reddit pointed out, was that Luffy basically has the position of Laugh Tale.
If we look at who has what Lode Ponegplyhs, we get…
Kid: Big Mom + Kaido
Law: Kaido + Zou
Luffy: Kaido + Zou + Big Mom
Luffy’s Ponegplyhs give us a triangle. If we consider the islands the Poneglyph’s identify as poins of a triangle, regardless of where the fourth island is, Laugh tale will be somewhere on the sides of the triangle.
Of course, you can’t just sail the Grand Line, even less the New World, without a log pose, a lot of luck and an amazing navigator, but since Luffy has all three (Laugh Tale isn’t available on the log pose, otherwise everyone could just stroll up there: that’s why you need the Lode Ponegplyhs) he could, in theory, just brute force the triangle and find the One Piece that way.
He won’t, obviously, since he’s all about that adventure, but Nami and Usopp probably would. Ooo, nice fanfic idea! Nami and Usopp, plotting to get Luffy to sail along the triangle route, just to avoid capturing the fourth Ponegplyh which is probably in the hands of Blackbeard or someone similar?
And speaking of Blackbeard, Luffy, and other yonkos…
Tumblr media
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE STORY BEHIND THIS ONE.
Mihawk and Crocoboy working under Buggy? Not a snowball’s chance in Hell. Is it like Mr.3 and Alvida, working with him and letting him be the front figure? The best crack theory so far: Croc and Mihawk are with buggy because they lost a Davy Back fight.
Tumblr media
Character. Interactions. Are. Gold.
Nice little establishing shot of Zoro, going all ‘Nnnnnnnoooooo…’, while Law puts that overly analytical brain to use: with the information he has, it is a logical conclusion to draw. And then there’s Luffy debunking any and all skills Buggy has and Kid who focuses on the matter at hand, in other words, what the Cross Guild (will see with official translation if that’s the true name) is actually doing, not who’s in it.
But really nice idea with the ‘bounties for marines’-thing! Did not expect that! And will this affect a certain Wanted-poster fan creation-event, I wonder… now that marines also, by canon, can have wanted posters ;)
And Law. Oh, my heart. You honourable bastard, you.
Tumblr media
We’ll have to see how the official translation puts it, but still: who is it? Sabo? Aokiji? Marko? Blackbeard?
Law is all dark and broody – is it Doflamingo, out from Impel Down? He was burned when young, after all.
Robin looks surprised: does she know who it is or did she figure it out when she saw Law’s reaction?
COME ON KID, TELL US ALREADY.
Tumblr media
Yamato for nakama is gaining momentum.
I don’t really have an opinion, one way or the other: I like him as a character and have no objections to him joining. I do share the worry that the crew is getting too big to focus properly on all members, which has been a problem in the fights lately. However: the story is less about the individual crew members and more about the world changing now (or has actually been since they entered the New World), which justifies less of a focus on their development and more on what’s happening around them instead.
But it is still annoying to be left in the dark with character development. The biggest pain is Chopper. I really expected him to be able to cure SMILE when Wano was over, but maybe that’s something he has to work with Vegapunk on?
(And speaking of Vegapunk: wouldn’t it be hilarious if Kid’s route takes him to Vegapunk’s location and he kidnaps him or something similar? Etymology of ‘Vega’: (1) brightes star in the Lyra constellation; (2) an extensive, fertile, grass-covered plain or tract of land.)
I’m guessing we’ll get some sort of flashback to Zoro’s family ties, hinted at in SBS and the story proper, as well as something on him visiting Ryumas grave, as he wished.
Lighthearted fun! I give it three different routes to follow and a million bonus points for tank top-Law.
Serious thoughts re. the whole:
Both in terms of story-telling and art, the latest chapters looks almost like a second draft, but not yet the final creation. Some really weird decisions were made regarding character development and the art looks more and more rushed, the detailed backgrounds the only clean thing the eye can rest on while the characters and moving parts are rushed and sketchy, especially in the larger panels with a lot of them (see panel with Raizo and Shinobu for example).
I realize some of the issues with art might have to do with scanlation quality, but I usually read through the official as well (support it as well, guys!) and the same things are noticeable there. It’s hard to say if it’s the length of Wano dragging Oda down, the length of One Piece finally taking its toll or the million other projects he has rolling (film RED, Netflix live action, planning the final saga, etc.), but the lack of focus is really showing.

One Piece Chapter 1056 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
So we are back again reaching the ending stages of Wano
There's still stuff to wrap up though, so let's get to it
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
We return with the Vinsmokes and there's Katakuri!
We return to the fallout of the Admiral attack, seems Shinobu was got too, but both she and Raizo are alive so Kaido's crew likely are too
Kin'emon regrets not being there, but is smitten that he got to spend time with Tsuru
Poor girl got a burn on her face, but other than that she's fine and wants to return to the capital
Finally a proper panel of Carrot
And, she's being made the new leader of Zou, and I don't quite agree with that (I will explain at the end)
So, Inu and Neko are planning to stay in Wano, and they're using Carrot's experience with the crew as a reason to put a 15 year old in charge of an ancient civilization
Carrot does make the point as well that there are more qualified people, including Wanda
They pull the Pedro card too, even though Pedro's will was to help Luffy get to the Dawn
Sukiyaki does indeed reveal himself to Momo and Hiyori
But the kids embrace him, thankful that they still have family
The Akazaya all knew as well...except Kin'emon but he'll play it cool
Seems Sukiyaki wants to lore dump but then resume as a commoner
Back with the crew and it's discussing the Pluton stuff
Luffy doesn't want it, but Franky is a little curious
Shinobu and Tama then appear, the former with a youthful appearance
Seems she's still recovering and that's what makes her look young and skinny
Tama's gonna be her apprentice, but does note she would like to travel with Luffy when she gets stronger
Caribou no! You had a change of heart remember don't sully it!
It is dangerous that he now knows about two ancient weapons
A few days pass and Momo's already getting a little stoic about the reparation plans
But the crew have already done their patented 'leave without saying goodbye to the major players' shtick
Momo and Kin'emon of course will not allow them to leave without saying bye to them specifically, and lucky for them they are delayed
See the three captains are arguing, planning on going their separate ways by sailing to separate islands
But Kid and Luffy want to go to the same island, they draw straws and Luffy loses
Law is going in the straight path, noting how the alliance is over, Luffy is forced into going the shortest distance, despite his claims for Yonko leeway
Buggy's Yonko promotion is validated though, he had formed the 'Cross Guild', with his two commanders: Crocodile and Mihawk!
Of course, there's gonna be more than what meets the eye, Zoro does feel like Mihawk wouldn't bow to anyone anyway, Crocodile is certainly not the take orders type either
When Monkey 'Got eaten by a snake and thought it was a cave, was going to write his own name while undercover to enter a tournament, punches people while holding an infamous cursed sword' D. Luffy calls you a moron you best believe you must be a moron
Seems Buggy is also putting bounties on Marines, which I guess does level the playing field but I swear if you touch the good marines there will be words; leave Smoker, Tashigi, T-Bone, Jonathon (make him canon Oda), Coby, Helmeppo, Fujitora and Drake alone! I doubt there's bounties for Garp though because even Buggy can't be that foolish
The trio seem to depart similarly to how they departed on Sabaody, Kid at least reminding Luffy that they're rivals when they leave the island
Law also gives Kid an etching of the Road Poneglyph since they all earned it equally
Kid seems to be setting his sights on a new target too: the Man Marked With Flames
I feel like this is Sabo, given the Translator's note, but it could be someone else entirely
Law and Robin seem to know, but Luffy and the audience do not
Yamato though is still on the roof, deciding to set off and live like Oden did
So this was a bittersweet chapter for me, lots of things coming to an end definitively.
We'll start of course with Carrot. You should know by now that I was very Carrot4Nakama, and still am, so it hurts that Oda would potentially rush her conclusion. It feels weak, and contradictory; Inu and Neko are staying in Wano to better protect it - the very thing Momo was trying to prove so people wouldn't be compelled to stay - but at the same time they are now leaving Zou in the hands of the musketeers who are proven to struggle against below-Yonko Commander strength, it feels counter-productive. In addition, it feels like Wanda is gonna be the one actually calling the shots, given how Carrot is still 15 and unlike Momo has never expressed the desire to lead Zou. And they are going to get invaders, because they have a Road Poneglyph, all it takes is one treacherous Mink or a vivre card to undermine Inu and Neko's reason of staying. Plus Zunesha bends to Momo's will anyway, so even if you lead the kingdom Momo is in the driver's seat for Zou anyway too. Don't get me wrong, leading Zou would've been a nice endgame for Carrot, but not right now, she needed a lot more time to grow that desire and the qualities of a leader to earn that outcome, being handed it right now just felt a little lazy. In that same vein though, as hugely unlikely as it may be, Oda may still swerve us and have Carrot stow away again anyway, it does feel like there's more adventure in her as well as room to mature, and as I said Pedro's will was oriented around helping the Straw Hats to the Dawn, if Carrot has that will 'more than anyone' it's better suited for Carrot to do an Oden-like move and journey with the Straw Hats first before ruling Zou. Unlikely? Probably, Denial? No Comment, but for me this does not feel satisfying to conclude Carrot's character this way.
I do feel a little bit blueballed by Pluton now too, we could at least have seen it, but I guess a time will come now that Caribou knows, I had hope for you man! You had a heart in the cover story but now you're going back to old ways. We're still yet to get any info on Zoro's heritage or the fact that Sea Prism is made in Wano, these feel like important stuff. What happened with Kaido and Big Mom too?
And another sad ending comes with the end of the Alliance, Law is setting off on his own, to find out about the D via Poneglyphs...which only 2 known people alive know how to read (does Kid have someone who can read it? Seems like he might). It's a sore spot because of how long we've spent and grown attached to Law to see him depart, but like the Ancient Weapons they'll probably show up later down the line. As for Kid, he drops a hint for the 'Man Marked With Flames' but we'll have to see who that is.
His important lore drop is Buggy, pulling a near-mirror image alliance that Luffy did by using Crocodile and Mihawk. There has to be some explanation on why they're paired up, likely out of convenience, but it at least validates his position and sets up a new endgame threat; the Straw Hats will have to fight the Cross Guild if Zoro is to defeat Mihawk, it'd be interesting if the Cross Guild included other pirates from the Paradise Saga: Krieg (and Ghin), Morgan, Kuro, Foxy, maybe Moria if he's not with/killed by Blackbeard, they don't have to be threats but it'd be a cool 'full circle' kinda thing. Overall I'm just glad Crocodile's back in the game.
Which leads us finally to Yamato, he's only at the end of the chapter but there has to be some nerves from fandom right? Luffy has never intended to leave an island without Nakama, he waited for Nami, Vivi, and Usopp (x2), and he chased down Chopper and Franky, it seems they really were going to leave without him, but stuff remains to be seen, Yamato at the least seems to want to go with Luffy but again, that doesn't automatically entitle you to Nakama. I'd also like to note this parallel with Carrot being bestowed a responsibility to rule she doesn't want, if she does stay to rule Zou it's hypocritical that she has to do that while pushing for Yamato to live free from responsibility to rule when he was named Shogun by Kaido.
Overall it was a good chapter, but I didn't vibe with it as much because of some potential to likely directions I don't at the current moment feel right about, it would seem we'll leave Wano next chapter which is sad too because it did feel like we had a mountain left to uncover.
Much to wrap up, but we know Oda will finish strong.

Emperor’s New Clothes
Finders keepers, losers weepers!
When Sanji is wed, the Strawhats are too little, too late.
They come upon bloody bodies stuck on tables and chairs, all looking similar to their beloved Cook sans a large man with the only defining feature of blonde hair. They’re all barely alive, clinging to air for how knows long. Chopper is immediately upon them, panicked but steady, shouting instructions over Pedro and Brook’s direction as Carrot tries not to puke with Nami helping her out.
Luffy stands in front of the altar, quiet but not for long.
“Nami,” he says, without looking away at the place where Sanji had been forcefully thrust upon some random girl. He knows he likes women—loves them, even. But this place is a cage hidden with sweets and food that Luffy would never glance at, and Luffy should know (he nearly lost a brother to a similar, golden cage—). “Where?”
Nami stops from where she’s rubbing circles on the Mink’s back, sees the steel line on Luffy’s—no, her Captain’s shoulders and feels a comforting weight settle on her like a protective blanket, and she understands. She may not have Zoro’s innate understanding, nor Robin’s intelligent observations, or Ussop’s easy camaraderie, but she’s his Navigator. She’s the one who guids his anger and let him loose.
It isn’t raining, and there is no Aqua Laguna to run away from, but a nakama is missing (taken away from their home—) and if she has to set the World Government Flag on fire, she will.
“Follow me,” she answers, and knows it’s true.
(They’d give up their lives for him, but knows it’s harder to come back after turning him away)
Sanji is found in a small cottage, asleep and with a girl—his bride, but she looked no older than Shirahoshi—who cries and attempts to kill them with a grin on her face.
Luffy bats her away, then breaks the pistol and knife on her grasp. Face devoid of any joy, he asks, “Are you going to hurt him?”
Speechless, she doesn’t speak. But Luffy’s eyes tell stories when he doesn’t have the patience to, and she tears up as she nods, “For as long as I live.”
Nodding, and deeming her sincere, Luffy walks up to his Cook’s slumbering form and sets his hat on his chest without a word.
Exiting the safe haven amidst a cake-frosted wonderland, Strawhat Luffy leaves for war.
Katakuri sees the man in front of him, thin but whipcord strength hidden underneath his fancy clothes, a fedora atop where a strawhat should be.
He sees, then, still only for a moment, but what he has yet to hear staggers him.
“Move, I have no reason to fight you.”
It takes him a few beats before he realizes that Luffy had spoken in the present, and he can’t help the confused, “What?” Even as he already knows his answer, which was more baffling than the first one.
“Pigtails would cry, and she likes Sanji so I won’t make her sad,” was his simple reply. It was dumbfounding. “So move. I don’t wanna fight you.”
“And why should I?” He finds himself asking, and feels the breath knocked out of him when he gets an answer.
“I have business with Big Mom.”
Jinbei sets down the red cup, no fear whatsoever, for he knows his Captain will be the Future Pirate King. A mere Emperor should not faze him.
Then he comes, decked in red and black, his signature item gone but Jinbei isn’t worried. Luffy-kun is calm, eerily so, and it reminds him starkly of his desperate run towards his brother.
But this is different. This time, Sanji-kun is somewhere safe with a protector by his side, and Luffy is not alone.
“Oi,” he says, unheeding the others’ murmurs and incredulous stares. “You’re the one who took my Cook, right?” His brows furrow. “And you made Fishman Island your territory. You’re doing a pretty sucky job at it.”
“Oh? Aren’t you that pesky rookie who claimed Fishman Island as your own?” Big Mom sneers, haughty and confident in her powers. Around them, her children stir in unease, but refuse to show weakness. “Come here to prostrate yourself? Hah! As if I’d let you live.”
Then, in a rare occurence of seriousness, Luffy-kun’s face is shadowed as he shoots back, “I should be the one saying that to you.” And then he’s a blur of rage.
Big Mom meets his haki-coated fist with one of her own, the collision an explosion of wills that sends majority of those present flying, and Jinbei watches in awe even as he struggles to stand.
This... is a fight between Conquerors.
He sees one of Big Mom’s children—a little girl, who looked severely displeased—try to hit Luffy-kun woth her weapon, and he sends a stream of caramel towards her. Shifting into his favored stance, Jinbei faces the children of the soon-to-be defeated Emperor and introduces himself, palm up, “I am Jinbei of the Strawhat Pirates, and I shall be your opponent! Let’s not bother them, yes?”
They’re still fighting.
Pedro knows what Strawhat is doing is risky, knows that they still need to get to Wano, but Strawhat is still fighting and he’s losing.
“Pedro!” Nami yells, secure with the fact that they’ve gotten a copy of the Red Poneglyph. “We need to go! We’ll just get caught up in the crossfire at this rate!”
“But your captain—“
“Luffy will be fine!” She interrupts, and smiles. It’s not without worry, but filled with faith. Not blind faith of someone who worships gods, but one that has seen happenings people would call miracles when it was merely a kind and brave act of a human soul. “He’s gonna be the nest Pirate King, remember?” She winks, and Pedro...
Pedro remembers watching the Pirate King’s execution, remembers the rain against his fur and his sword slipping out of his paws.
Then he remembers all that they had done—infiltrated Tottoland, stole a copy of a Red Poneglyph, allied with another Worst Generation Rookie, successfully retrieved their crewmate—and lets himself hope that the sun will shine again, and bring about a new dawn.
Perhaps, after this, he’ll see his home bright and happy (truly happy) once this is done.
Luffy unlocks Snakeman, but it’s not enough.
He knows he’s not strong yet, knows there’s a reason Torao became his friend before going after Kaido, but Sanji was hurt and his family nearly got killes and Sanji—his kind, sweet Cook with a bleeding heart and kicks as hard as steel—would forever blame himself if he didn’t do anything about it.
Sanji is strong, but not as strong as he is. And Luffy is the Captain, so it’s his turn to help him.
Once more concentrating on his haki, he stores up all the helplessness at Sanji being taken away (yet another failure, what kind of captain is he?), the fury (how dare they steal Sanji’s freedom!?), the sorrow (oh, he’ll be sad. He’’ll cry. Luffy can’t let that happen), the glee (he’s safe he’s here he’s whole he won’t die like Ace—) and glares down at Big Mom, huffing and puffing and the flames on her hair dying. The cloud was taken by Nami, so he won’t have to worry about that. He’s rubber, anyway.
He recalls Katakuri’s resigned admittance, the way he’d said, “I can’t leave my family.”
It sounded like—(“Leave them. If I come back with you, leave them.”)
It doesn’t matter now. He’ll beat up Big Mom, make Crybaby-Hoshi’s home safe, and take back the Mochi-bastard with them to Wano. He’ll like the donuts Sanji’ll make.
Decision made, he jumps and meets Big Mom head-on and, this time, it’ll be the last time.
When it happened, nobody knew except those in Tottoland had any idea what was going on (not even those who watched it with their own eyes could dream to describe it).
It starts like a thunderclap, but silent. An abrupt hush all over the world, enveloping everything within, and left all wondering but largely unafraid.
Only one can put it into words, but that was only because he’d lived through it before.
Rayleigh looked up not at the sky, but the sea in the horizon, and mused, “Took you long enough,” as he drank a glass of whiskey.
Roger’s had been more like a roar, a threat and a promise all wrapped in one.
“Let’s turn the world upside-down,” he said. And he did. Oh, how well he did.
But Luffy’s was different. A declaration of war, a simple fact with no room for arguement:
“Mine.”
And Rayleigh can’t help but laugh, for the boy who only wanted freedom and adventure, will be the one who conquered all.
He couldn’t believe it. Mama, Mama was—
Dynasty decapitated—
Oven looked at where Mama’s body had flown, sinking into the depths of the sea she loved so. Strawhat Luffy was barely standing, but the sight that he was, that Mama was the one who wasn’t—
“I told you, didn’t I?” He heard, and saw the other Strawhats emerge from where they were hiding on their ship. The busty gingerhead was smiling smugly at a jaw-dropped Pedro, Zeus (coward traitor that he was) cowering behind her shoulder.
—you just might see a ghost tonight.
“Luffy!” The racoon(?) yelled, worry in his features and pale, “You’re injured—heck, you’re worse than any physical dismemberment I’ve seen in my life! And let me tell, you, Doctorine made sure of that!”
“Luffy-san!” The skeleton yohohoho’ed, but the grip he had on his guitar was, well, bone-white. “Come, let us come home! Our nakama is waiting for us!”
Groggily, Strawhat lifts his head up, gaze blurry and almost catatonic. If he moves now, he could—
“Don’t,” Oven gaped at his triplet, and barely has a second to understand what he meant before Strawhta speaks up, voice shaky but with a command that said, Listen.
“You...” he whispers, coarsely. “This place... and Fish...’n Island...”
Oven knew what he was about to say, but nothing prepared for him to be pinned down by a stare heavier than gravity itself,
“They’re mine now.”
Then Katakuri flinches, seeing something with his advanced sight as he chokes out a, What!? And then he realizes Strawhat wasn’t done. Not yet.
Finger pointed solely on his big brother—their Katakuri, Luffy announces, “Him too.”
There’s a stillness, like the whole world was holding in its breath. And then—
“I can’t,” Katakuri answers, and he looks so sad and small that Oven can’t believe he’ve never seen this. Never seen the longing and sheer want that Katakuri’s gaze held as he watched Strawhat fight and breathe like he was God’s Word come to life. “I—“
“I...” he pants, but his eyes are determined—the same determination that brought Mama down with his fists and pure spite. “...are you happy?”
Katakuri doesn’t answer. It was enough.
“Go,” Oven murmurs, and Katakuri looks so shocked that his heart clenched. Had they really been so blind to their brother’s woes? “Join him. Call us sometimes.”
Daifuku claps his shoulder, and Smoothie nods. Amande takes out her cigar, and Annana is too young but smiles supportively nevertheless. Katakuri watches his family wait for him, and feels tears pool his eyes.
Brulee pushes him, only able to move him because he was idle, and she tears up as she says, “Be free, brother.”
You’ve done so much for us, let us return your love.
“It’s not goodbye,” Daifuku says. “It never is.”
Throughout it all, Strawhat is patient, and the rest of his crew don’t move. Though the racoon seemed to be a second away from sprinting on land and dragging Katakuri back himself.
Swallowing, Katakuri approaches Straw—no, his Captain, and kneels. Not in deference, but to meet him eye to eye.
Slowly, he unravels his scarf, and despite the horrified intakes of breaths, all the Charlotte Siblings had eyes on were Luffy.
And he doesn’t disappoint (not like Mama—Big Mom)
“Huh, cool teeth...” he grins, tired but so full of warmth even Oven feels safe looking at it. What more to Katakuri who’s been accepted without a second thought? “Like... Barto’s... you guys should... meet...”
“Of course,” Katakuri says, and it sounds like a vow, like I’ll follow you beyond death.
Oven doesn’t blame him.
“From now henceforth,” Smoothie suddenly breaks the atmosphere. All look, expect for Luffy who is carried by Katakuri as if it was the most natural thing to do in the world. Maybe it was, maybe it is. “The Big Mom Pirates are now underneath the Strawhats’ Flag. Any opposition?”
None, save for Luffy’s dismayed groan of, There is no Strawhat Grand Fleet!
Scattered laughter erupts, and Katakuri looks more relaxed than Oven has ever seen him just by being with Luffy, and feels more glad of his decision.
And so Katakuri carries Luffy back home to their ship, with Jinbei and the Sun Pirates following, and Oven feels content.
Sanji can’t face him, doesn’t even dare to look at his—at Luffy, the strawhat a heavy reminder of what he left behind, of what he’d done.
“I can’t be the Pirate King without you!”
“Sanji,” Luffy starts, and Sanji can’t hold back his sobs. How could he, when the floor he’s looking at is the welcome sight of Sunny’s wonderful kitchen, when he’s away from that hellhole (and his blood family was alive, by the gods—), when standing before him was a Messiah that refused to be known as anythinh other than simply Luffy.
But he lifts his head up still, meets unfathomable dark eyes, and as they soften with a knowing look, Sanji—
Sanji breaks.
It’s messy, a loud keen tearing from his abused throat. His wrists are free and he still has his hands, his Captain is kissing them like they’re pure gold itself, and he’s wrapped in an embrace like nothing can touch him and he knows it’s true. Knows that, for him—useless, unwanted failure of Germa 66. Simple East Blue cook with a debt never (could never be) repaid and skirt-chaser. Vinsmoke Sanji. Blackleg Sanji. Strawhat Sanji—Luffy would break heaven and raise unimaginable hell. For anyone he considers as nakama—
For anyone he loves and Sanji can’t—
“I’m sorry,” it’s weak, nothing compared to the feeling of his Captain’s face smashed against his shoe, and he wants to cut his legs off—“I—I wanna go home.” I wanna go home with you.
I wanna go to the sea with you.
I—
“Silly Sanji,” he shishishi’s, and it sounds like forgiveness he doesn’t deserve. Curved crescents and a blinding grin. “You’re already home. We’re in the Sunny, remember?”
Welcome home.
Sanji laughs, hysterical and so full of relief. And then Luffy’s—his Captain, by god—dragging him out to the deck to meet “Mochi-bastard, he loves donuts!”, and it doesn’t matter that Nami had slapped him when she’s hugging him so tearfully like he’d slip through her fingers, doesn’t matter that he lied to Chopper when he’s clinging on his leg with insults spewing out, doesn’t matter that Brook was a skeleton when he shakes and rattles as he holds him close—
Because Sanji... Sanji’s finally home.
I wanna give All Blue to you, my Captain.
Torao looks at the way Blackleg-ya had a piece of Mugiwara-ya’s yukata on his hand, like a child that could get lost in a crowd. He looks at the unmistakeable forms of the Former Warlord Jinbei-ya’s “First Son of the Sea”, and Charlotte Katakuri “Dogtooth” having brunch with a three-eyed woman. He looks at Roronoa-ya’s unsurprised and exasperatedly fond look and just. Throws his hands up in the air and walks away.
He’s not paid enough to deal with this shit.
Shanks takes one look at the newspaper the News Coo gave him and spits out his drink.
“Capt’n?” Yassop asked, early-riser that he is. “What’s—“ he stops, and Shanks feels his shoulders shake.
There, bold in and huge, were the words printed for the world to know, “Big Mom, Defeated! Strawhat Luffy Is Crowned Emperor of the Seas!” And “Fishman Island and Tottoland, Flies the Strawhats’ Flags!”
Shanks finally guffaws, loud and like his old Captain’s, and he yells to the bastards he called nakama, “See this? Anchor’s an Emperor now! Just like your Captain! DAHAHAHAHAHA!”
“What,” is Benn’s first words in the morning. Yassop is still looking at the newspaper as if it could answer the questions of the universe. “He just brought down Joker, can’t that brat take a rest for us old folk?”
“Nope!” Lucky Roux beams, drumstick at hand. “It’s how we met him, remember?” And Shanks does. He really, truly does. Just like how he ran up on the dock of his West Blue island home and yelled at Roger to take him in.
Feeling for the phantom of a strawhat loved and dear, Shanks faces the sea and hollers, “All hands on deck! Set a course, my fellow bastards!”
“Where to, Captain?” Benn asks, but his grey eyes already know.
Gleefully, he screams an announcement of his own:
I’m taking back the crown! I’m all dressed up and naked!
“Wano! I wanna see Anchor plummet Kaido to the ground!”
I see what’s mine and take it!
“Make way for the King.”

ONE PIECE DRESSROSA-ZOU ARCS IMPRESSIONS
This part is the spoiler-free part of my impressions.
I don’t know what I was expecting from Dressrosa but it didn’t left me wanting for more... outside the animation part, probably. But I mean when you get spoiled on how OP’s being animated rn, no sh*t. Although I really did enjoy the new characters. Cavendish is accidentally becoming one of my favourite characters and this is because of the anime of Gintama... But that’s because I’m finding more and more seiyuus in One Piece that just so happened to be voicing recurrent characters (or straight up main characters) in Gintama, so I shouldn’t be suprised.
And then there’s Zou and I’d lie if I’d say I should have had expected an island with furries, and yet I didn’t. ...and once again the “holy sh*t I wasn’t expecting these seiyuus being in One Piece too” striked back. But at this point I don’t know if it’s really because of Gintama or just because I’m starting to go back to my old teen hobbies like when I was a hardcore Seiyuu fan, and recognizing a lot of seiyuus is giving me a huge bust of serotonin. (?)
Above all, I liked Dressrosa more than Zou, even if Dressrosa has... it’s own issues.
If you want to go straight up to the spoiler section, click down here:
Let’s start with Dressrosa:
I thought to just continue this lil update, where I started the non spoiler section by saying that I won’t feel any shame or make an apology for reblogging non stop posts of Roronoa Zoro, I’m still on that Idea, fight me if you want(maybe no); but I decided to explain more about my first impressions, and then maybe elaborate extra stuff from those bullet point-lighning round from that post.
Overall, I had fun. I geniuently enjoyed Doffy as a villain, and his motivations where pretty interesting too. NGL, this arc is basically new world Alabasta” and it pretty much shows... But the thing is that this time it was a little bit more interesting because of Doffy.
Doffy being the combo of Warlord and Celestial Dragon may sound like that moment of the Simpsons of “it’s just the same doll but with a new hat” in comparison to Alabasta, but even if I also enjoyed Crocodile as a villain in there, at least Doffy had a more interesting backstory and motivations to explore... while Crocodile was just an excuse to show off Nico Robin in all her glory. That’s it. I said it. (and probably made a fwend sad). Please, Crocodile, sir, next time you come back please do show us the secret Ivankov and you only know and then we talk.
Overall, I just had the time of my life hating Doffy, that’s it. I’m not going to try to explain anything else. I’m a basic b*tch whose favourite villains are the ones who are just so evil I just have the time of my life hating on. Like Tsurumi from Golden Kamuy, another despicable motherf*cker, for instance.
And now that I’m talking about Doffy... I KNOW UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE LIKE CORA-SAN AND I ALSO JOIN THE GANG. BEST FATHER EVER AND HE BARELY WAS ONE FOR 6 MONTHS. BUT GAVE BABY TORAO ENOUGH LOVE TO PREVENT HIM FROM BECOMING LIKE HIS BROTHER. KUDOS TO HIM.
...Btw, I just need to break this impressions one moment to openly say that, as a Spaniard, I feel weird now saying Doffy’s entire name. For a reason. And Cora-san’s too. Now I understand english speakers(americans to be more precisely) when they watch Bungou Stray Dogs and some characters from there just happened to be named after famous english literature writers... (the first comparison I just thought about, don’t attack me plz)
Also, kudos to the voice actors because they did an amazing job and I had even more fun, like for instance Koyama Rikiya. I absolutely loved Kyros thanks mainly to him... Although I wish I could entirely say the same about Rebecca and Baby 5 because they barelly had any screentime or, at least personally speaking, didn’t to bring something interesting tothe table... Well, maybe I can excuse Baby 5 because of the ending of Punk Hazard, but with Rebecca definetly not. FFS her seiyuu is the Queen Hayashibara Megumi, I was expecting more from Rebecca (although maybe the blame is really in me for expecting that much) than what we got. But don’t get me wrong, I did like her but.. I wanted just a little bit more of her.
Another thing I enjoyed a lot was the introduction of Fujitora. I knew he was popular for a reason, but I wasn’t expecting it to be... because of this. I was expecting him to be popular only because he was a blind old man who could fight harder than the dudebro’s gary stu fanfic-like idea they have of Zoro, but he’s definetly not that. Fujitora is a really interesting man who geniuently thinks about people’s safety (can’t say the same about Sakazuki and Borsalino, lol), and I respect that.
*LAST MOMENT EDIT BECAUSE I FORGOT ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT THING* THE REUNION OF LUFFY AND SABO MADE ME CRY TOO. I DON’T KNOW, I’M CRYING TOO MUCH OVER ONE PIECE
Now I’m just going through some bullet points from the update post:
First bullet point I’m actually elaborating: The Colloseum part was hella boring.
I just couldn’t stand it. I barely gave any sh*t about the characters and there’s also times where I’m just thinking that the Colloseum part could had been handled differently, with more interesting characters but well, that’s my opinion. I mean the only tournament arcs that I genuenly enjoyed were the Galaxy Wars from Saint Seiya (the OG one from the 80′s if somebody’s wondering), and maybe the Heaven’s Arena arc from HxH, so even if I was interested on seeing the OP take on it.. It kinda went sour for me at the beggining of this tournament, honestly. The fight versus Diamante was probably one of the very few interesting things happening inside the tournament.
And don’t get me wrong, interesting things do happen inside, like the encounter of Luffy and Rebecca, the fate of the losers from the colloseum, etc. But the tournament arc itself... not the best thing, pretty boring tbh.
The second bullet point I’m actually elaborating, but this time I’m literally copy-pasting the bullet point... for a reason: I STARTED TO SWEAT IN F*CKING FEAR WHEN NAMI’S GROUP ENCOUNTERED BIG MAM’S SHIP, AND EVEN MORE WHEN SANJI SAID “I’M GETTING INTO THAT SHIP”. NO. PLEASE. DON’T. I’M NOT READY FOR WHOLE CAKE ISLAND YET.
Look, by the time I’m writing this I’m already in Whole Cake and let me just tell you one thing; I’m still not ready for this arc. I know it’s very important, specially for Sanji’s development as a character and it’s like a re-introduction of him, but I’d lie if I’d said that I “do feel sensitive” around the themes explored in this arc, and it’s personally tought to go throught it but... Since it’s just too long and too personal to share the entire reason on a public post, I’m just leaving it as the following: “I’m not ready to tackle those themes, but I feel like I need to tackle them if I want to be the best version of myself”. That’s all.
The third and last bullet point I’m actually elaborating, LET ME TELL YOU HOW GINTAMA F*CKED ME UP ENTIRELY
For the sake of being short, I’m a crazy Gintama fan. I’m almost like an encyclopedia of shorts for all(?) Gintama content. I’ve been like this since I was 14-15 y/o (when I’m writing this I’m currently 25), so of course, if there’s something that remotely resembles something from Gintama (mainly gintama jokes or references when it happens), I’ll react to it instantly (but in a healthy way, not like an obnoxious annoying elitist lil sh*t of a fan), and sadly, part of this curse I ended up with included reconizing every single seiyuu that appeared in Gintama (or at least the ones who voiced important/popular characters) in other anime. And of course, seiyuus from Gintama did already appear before Dressrosa; like kid Ace’s seiyuu Sakaguchi Daisuke (voice of Shinpachi), or... Akainu’s seiyuu Tachiki Fumihiko (voice of Hasegawa “Madao” Taizou)... But then there’s Dressrosa and... It just went all over the board (pun not intended... does it even count as one tho?).
And don’t get me wrong, this did also happened to me on reverse with One Piece Seiyuus, but.... coming back to “Gintama f*cked me up”, it hitted differently, because it almost looked like they were casted to play certain characters based on the characters they played in Gintama and... NGL, it made everything even more hilarious. Like the fact that Kugimiya Rie voices a bad mouthed “child” in One Piece(Sugar)... just like she does in Gintama(Kagura). And I know technically speaking Sugar “is an adult” BUT, if we follow the logic of her Hobby Hobby fruit, she’s doomed to be an eternal child for the rest of her life, as in “no more development like a normal adult human would”. I’m just saying what the canon says, don’t mind me.
...Or Cavendish. I can confirm you that Cavendish is pretty much Gintama’s Katsura Kotarou’s madness as an OP character. And now he’s one of my favourite background characters in One Piece... Mainly because of that. And yes, they do in fact share the seiyuu Ishida Akira. (Also, is it just me or is he inspired by Lady Oscar from The Rose of Versailles???)
...So yeah, TLDR: too much gintama made me shout “oh shit, gintama’s taking over one piece”
Now with the Zou impressions
I liked the idea of Zou being an “island”, that’s not an Island but a millennia old elephant, walking around and hard to track down. Brilliant. Also, I’m pretty sure it’s inspired by something mythological but I still can’t point out which one.
...also I wasn’t expecting Pedro to be voiced by Miki Shin’Ichiro, in the same way I wasn’t expecting Orikasa Fumiko as Wanda... although she already voiced someone previously in One Piece so...
Even if it was a short arc, it gave a lot of valuable information like the origin of the poneglyphs and the link between the Mink tribe and the Kozuki clan from Wano but...
What I wasn’t expecting was how we got introduced to the Whole Cake arc. I came to this arc, thinking the Whole Cake thing won’t be that mentioned and... I ended up crying because of the sacrifice Sanji was willing to partake in... I feel bad for that guy... And since by the time of writing this I’m already in Whole Cake... Without spoilers I’ll say: yeah, no sh*t I was feeling bad for him” (also because I got almost entirely spoiled over all Whole Cake arc).
...but look, ngl, I didn’t like very much the ending of this arc. Probably what happened to Momonosuke and the Millennia old elephant may be more interesting and better explained in the near future but... I was more confused than anything, and I’m hopping it to be better explained in the future. I’ll just leave it as such.
Over all, if I had to choose, I’d say that Dressrosa was more entertaining than Zou... Although Zou did deliver bigger stuff when it comes to plot development, while Dressrosa was more focused on the next step to overthrow a Yonkou than anything, I felt like I had more ”fun” watching Dressrosa... Probably because I also want to get to Wano already.
.
.
.
Now I’m in Whole Cake arc, I’m more or less by the beggining of the arc and oh boy... This arc is going to be harder than expected and the only thing ready I have are the pocket tissues by my side because I already know I’m going to cry the hell out of this arc. And of course, have my soul utterly destroyed by the Reintroduction of Sanji and his past.
I hope he has a break after this because wow... He needs too many hugs to count. Probably more than Luffy in Marineford.

i finally finished zou
most immediate reaction to the end of zou is, why of all the minks is pedro the one who gets to join luffy for the next arc? He’s just sanji but a lion. We have enough sanjis.
let wanda and carrot join the crew
important zou discoveries: road poneglyphs are a thing and i’m on board with anything that makes it feel like progress can and is actually being made. now we have a definitive, numbered, road markers along the path to raftel.
also it’s something for robin to do because god knows oda doesn’t let her have cool fights any more
lots of people on this island with direct connections to gol d roger
kind of mad they talked about every member of gol d rogers crew we’ve met so far except kureha, just seemed kind of rude
i had forgotten that buggy, shanks and that old man who lives inside laboon were all members of gol d rogers crew
it’s been a long time since i actually watched any one piece
then there was the thing with momo and luffy being able to hear the voice of the elephant, and this seems vaguely familiar like a thing that they’ve hinted at with luffy before
i’m just putting it down to being a will of the d thing
even though momo isn’t a d and law who is a d was also there and didn’t hear anything. i’m just going to ignore this.
cool moments on zou: i love kanjuro’s stupid dragon and how hard it tried to climb zou
i enjoyed pekoms getting some unexpected humanization and character development. i thought that was pretty cool.
bege’s devil fruit power is cool. i enjoyed the discussion he had with sanji.
THAT SAID bege has the castle power but also the power to turn himself into a tank and zoom away and this is not what castles are
i’m enjoying the more serialized nature of the arcs in the new world, even if i dislike the presence of the samurai who are practically members of the crew they’ve been here for that long at this point
before this each island was more or less its own adventure with overarching progress and new crew members and stuff but like each island was a self contained thing
(mostly. notable exceptions like baratie-arlong park, drum island-alabastra, water 7-enie’s lobby, saobody-impel down-marineford)
i think i’m actually disproving my own point here. It just feels more serialized because it’s been one long narrative arc since punk hazard i guess.
look whatever
anyway vivi and carue are story relevant again. i love them.
bring back kureha
except don’t because i’ve already been spoiled on some of the shit that happens to killer and i don’t trust the show with my favourite characters any more.
let kureha and perona never be relevant again thank you

Okay!! For One Piece since we are pretty equal now where we are!! 1, 2, 12, and 25 for the end of the Totto Land Arc \(^-^)/
Thanks for asking! ^o^ Ooooh, shiny OP questions! *^*
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Luffy and Nami, most definitely! I know exactly why this became so popular, because it’s such an anime narrative that The Boy gets together with The Girl who continuously hits and beats him up and that’s somehow seen as ~cute~ in anime. So considering Nami always beats Luffy up and that‘s ~funny~, it translates to them being a ship or whatever. But that’s the grossest anime ship writing anyway and I am blessed this isn’t the case in this show so I just really don’t get why people would want a ship based on such a dynamic in one of the rare cases when it finally isn’t canon.
There are so many girls I could like... understand why people would ship them with Luffy, considering how many girls he saves on a regular basis.
But that Nami regularly beats Luffy to a bruised pulp already doesn’t sit right with me in their friendship-relationship, because... how... about not just physically hurting the people you’re friends with?? I get it with Brook and Sanji when they’re being perverts because it’s rather self-defensive then, but with Luffy it’s so willy-nilly and she just beats him up whenever he does something she doesn’t like. That as the basis for a relationship is most definitely something I just really don’t get.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
Mmmmh... I am honestly a little lost as to what would cound as popular fandom OTPs here. I guess Sanji and Zoro, as much as they can count as bros. I just generally prefer the crew (aside from Franky/Robin) as bros instead of in relationships with each other, I suppose. *tilts head*
12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
Frooom what I just looked up, apparently the fandom is real split on Dressrosa. Half the notes I read rank it as the worst, while others defend it. So does this count? Because I really loved Dressrosa; it mirrored many of the things I loved about Alabasta, while upping the stakes a lot and it was so very heavy on the LawLu, which I totally loved, also of course Sabo and all the memories of Ace - and that fucking finale with the Strawhat Fleet!!!
25. How would you end Whole Cake Island/Would you change the ending of Whole Cake Island?
I’d have to get back to you on that one! I am not yet at the end of this! Last episode I saw, Luffy just pulled Katakuri into the Mirroworld after Pedro killed himself and Sanji flew off with Chiffon and Pudding to make a wedding cake.
Thooough I guess what I already know what I’d like to change about the ending is; MAKE IT HAPPEN SOONER.
This story is most definitely too long, because it’s just a filler. Not in the sense of being a Filler Arc, but in the sense that it’s just unnecessary stuffing before we get to the actual plot in Wano.
And there are so fucking many fake-outs. So many moments of “And this is how this Could End Quickly”, only for it to then be prolonged after all. This should have been a short quick stop, them going there, getting the Poneglyphs and Sanji and leaving for Wano. Yes, the whole Vinsmoke thing is super interesting, but even with that, it coulda been way shorter.
Prolonging it by having the assassination plans fail was unnecessary. Especially since Caesar made three launcher. Not one, like requested. Three. So if one failed, they coulda used the second and the third. Instead, they fucking shot all three at once - and then they failed and were out of ammo. And then Big Mom got the unnecessarily timed hunger pangs and now Luffy has to fight Katakuri first before they can leave and I can see this arc going at least another 20 unnecessary episodes and it’s a bit nerve-grading.
Look. I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy in, get the stuff, out mission because that ain’t how Luffy operates or One Piece works. But with Sanji being self-sacrificial and wanting to marry Pudding, we already stretched the plot to a sufficient enough length. Bege coming in with an actual plan that coulda realistically gotten them out quick and gotten Big Mom killed was ideally set up.
That’s where it should have ended so we could have moved on to Wano, where I want to go. Vinsmokes were saved, Judge and Sanji cut ties, all’s well that ends well. Hunger pangs and failed assassination and now another fight... unnecessary, in my opinion.

Do you think Carrot should join the Straw Hats?
Hiya there @oddball-bunch-of-muses and thanks for the ask!
Tumblr media
In general, Carrot is cute, energetic and a badass fighter so no wonder people want her to be part of the crew but whenever it comes to speculations about potential new Straw Hats,  the whole topic should be observed from different angles to get the totality.
One important thing to look up is chemistry because obviously, friendship is one big part of this whole series and logically It’d cause trouble if you felt constantly like an outsider and couldn’t co-operate with your crew mates at all. More importantly, you need to convince the captain about your trustworthy, he makes the last decision after all. Remember guys when Robin wanted to join them? Everyone was on their toes because of events in Alabasta but then she managed to win Luffy’s trust so she got accepted and slowly was adapted to Straw Hats (and became even closer to them after Enies Lobby) when she learned that they wouldn’t leave her side unlike others in her past.
Tumblr media
Carrot tends to get well along with the Straw Hats so I think this side is something she doesn’t need to worry about (except some of the members don’t like that ear nibbling habit *laughs*). The other question is if she was asked to join, would she be ready to leave her beloved Mink Tribe? She left for an adventure secretly to help with the mission but it’s another thing to leave the Zou for a long while.
Another question mark that pops out whenever people are speculating about the new crewmates is their past, for example, has something happened which would be important storywise or which would be a ground for the later character growths. Oda hasn’t revealed too much of her history yet but so far we know that she joined the Inuarashi Musketeer squad when she was young and got gauntlets from Pedro and they fought against Beasts Pirates before encountering the Curly Hat Crew.
Linked to the previous topic, it’s good to ponder too whether these potential candidates have a something important to achieve in the future? One of the main themes of One Piece is reaching for your dreams so if a side character is added to the main cast, they need a reason to leave their homes for a long journey. Probably Carrot has a dream (we all do, right?) but she hasn’t gotten the chance to talk about it yet.
Straw Hats also tend to have certain roles/specified in certain tasks due to their skills (ie. Nami is in charge of navigating and with Robin’s ability to read poneglyphs, they will find Raftel where the legendary treasure is said to be hidden).  So as said it’s good to ponder whether Carrot could bring something new to the crew and what would be her role as a crew member?
Her art skills are amazing so they could perhaps somehow used again since last time it helped to find Sanji in the Mirror World.  She is also very smart and comes up with good plans so she could be part of the strategy team and on top of that, she also a strong fighter and in Sulong form, she is almost invincible!
Tumblr media
I previously wrote about thoughts on Jinbe joining the Straw Hats and it also handled speculation about Pudding’s joining the crew. Since Jinbe is joining, we’re left guessing whether there will be more recruits from this arc. I don’t personally mind if Carrot ended up joining because she is not only so adorable but also packed with potential and badassness but there are also perspectives that need more depth, for example, the more we know about her past and motivations, the surer we’ll become about whether she’d be part of the crew in future or an ally.
All in all, I respect the decisions made by Oda-sensei but I also prefer to have proper explanations (plotwise) for them so it could be easier to understand why he planned it to happen so. As I always tend to say, only time will tell the destiny, also for this rabbit Mink! :)

FEATURE SERIES: My Favorite One Piece Arc with RogersBase
Tumblr media
I love One Piece and I love talking to people who love One Piece. And with the series going on 23 years now, there is a whole lot to talk about. As the series is about to publish its 1000th chapter, a true feat in and of itself, we thought we should reflect upon the high-seas adventure and sit down with some notable names in the One Piece fan community and chat about the arcs they found to be especially important, or just ones they really, really liked.
Welcome to the inaugural article in the series "My Favorite One Piece Arc!"
My first guest in this series is RogersBase, a Nintendo Brand Ambassador. For my chat with him, he chose the Zou arc, in which Luffy and his crew head to an ancient civilization that sits upon the back of a giant elephant.
A note on spoilers: If you haven't seen the Zou arc yet, this interview does contain major plot points. Watch the Zou arc starting RIGHT HERE if you'd like to catch up or rewatch!
Tumblr media
Dan Dockery: In one sentence, could you sell me on Zou?
RogersBase: Okay, here we go — Mystery, romance, and a little bit of the Mammoth Boyz. I think that’s the perfect way to describe the best story arc in the post time skip era of One Piece.
  The best? Really?
Yeah, by far. For me, at least.
Yeah, I feel like post time skip has been a certainly interesting array of storylines. I think my personal favorite is Whole Cake. So much of the back half of it as soon as the wedding goes awry is great, and the entire Katakuri fight is a masterpiece.
I think Whole Cake is a totally reasonable answer, and I think you probably like it for the same reasons that I like Zou: the characterization and the drama that isn’t centered around the characters saving a kingdom. The kingdom of Zou has already been destroyed. There’s no saving it at this point. The only thing they want to save is Raizo. So you don’t have to deal with the villain hierarchies and families of say Dressrosa or Wano. And the nice thing about it is that since it’s a shorter, condensed story arc, it really hammers home the motivations of the characters and gives us this terrifying villain that’s not even present for most of the arc.
Tumblr media
I really like Jack. He only appears in a flashback for the most part and he’s a scourge of the kingdom. And then he comes back, only to be hit by that elephant. And that’s one of those things at the beginning of the arc, when I saw this massive thing, I thought “Aw, man. I wanna see what that elephant can do. I hope it hits something” and then IT DOES. I flipped out. It was so satisfying. Did you know that Zou would be your favorite when you finished it?
Yeah, I think I did. All the arcs up to that point had really high highs, but some of it just didn’t land with me. So to have Oda move away from these long story arcs that end in big one on one fights and go to this shorter, mystery-focused arc: What’s going on with these minks? What’s atop this elephant? Is Raizo still alive? What is The Voice of All Things? What connection does Luffy have to these giant creatures? And with so many great designs and characters, too, with the Minks. It’s really fascinating, and you have bits and pieces that lead up to it, but there’s so much here.
I feel like the Minks might be Oda’s purest expression of side characters because he’s playing with all of these animal figures that are both interesting to look at and emotionally evocative. It’s him flexing his muscles as a character artist. And the landscape of Zou as well - It’s beautiful to behold.
Tumblr media
Especially when you think about the amount of content that’s there in a short amount of chapters or episodes. There’s so much that’s told about the overall world, the Road Poneglyphs, the relationship between the Minks and the Kozuki Family, the Beast Pirates, so much gets touched upon that will expand in later story arcs. There’s beautiful, immediate payoff there and later.
It has such a comparatively goofy start, too. They’re climbing this giant elephant on the back of a cartoon dragon that Robin thinks is adorable. And I’m glad she gets a little bit of focus here because, with the Poneglyphs, Zou is a really big set-up arc for Robin. So her role in One Piece’s endgame has exponentially increased.
Also, the focus on characterization. In earlier, post timeskip arcs, you have these epic clashes that take down kingdoms, but here you get a cute moment with Robin. It’s so refreshing to see her in a natural element where she’s comfortable.
Tumblr media
What did you think of the Mink tribe’s living situation? The giant white whale tree and the treehouses and all. Do you have any favorite parts of Oda’s worldbuilding here? Not just as a story designer, but as someone who crafts actual places where races and species can live.
It’s cool to see the animals he chooses for the Minks, and how he constructs the power structure and who controls the land at what time, with the dog during the day and the cat at night. The big pineapple trees and the ruins that you see in the Jack flashback, he created a full-blown, believable civilization. It’s always a pleasure to see Oda working in jungle vegetation-type areas. He really excels in this in Skypiea and in his color spreads. So it seems like Zou is something that he’s wanted to do for a while. And how much effort he puts into it is why you feel so attached to the Minks at the end.
That’s really cool. There are a ton of anime side character animals, like Kakashi’s pet dogs and the little animals that hang out with Goku and pals, but Oda really lets loose here with a whole species. And as you said, we should’ve kinda seen it coming with all the work he’s done with anthropomorphic animals. But then, you have the big Jack flashback. And the stereotype of the One Piece flashback is “Oh boy, it’s ‘bout to get sad.” But Zou’s feels like an epic piece of mythology, and Jack is just this being of pure cruelty without any kind of sad backstory. How did you feel about it? Did it surpass your expectations?
Tumblr media
Oh, absolutely! To see a character as violent and ruthless as Jack was something needed, I think. He’s an overall threat, not goofy. And his Devil Fruit is fascinating, as you finally see the return of the Prehistoric Zoan type fruit after you last saw it with Drake turning into an Allosaurus. So it’s cool to not only see that Jack can turn into a Woolly Mammoth, but it’s a Woolly Mammoth fighting on top of a giant elephant. And with the way he gets teased leading up to his appearance in the flashback, I remember thinking “How cool would it be if there was a Woolly Mammoth fruit!” and sure enough, there it is! Jack feels like a fulfillment of the promise of the New World — It’s not going to be a cakewalk. Your opponents will be devastating and Jack is so determined, coming because he knows Raizo’s there and then coming back because he STILL KNOWS Raizo is there. He’s like “You can tell me all you want that he’s not here, but I know, and I will crucify you and cut off your limbs. I don’t know why you’re trying to defend this one ninja, but I know he’s here.”
Zou is kind of a double feature. We have Raizo and the Minks and the lore, but we also have the stuff that leads to Whole Cake with Sanj and Capone. Now, I see Sanji’s whole arc here sometimes referred to as Robin 2.0, because it’s a lot like Enies Lobby on the surface. Guy gets taken by the bad guys and is like “Don’t follow me because they’ll kill you, etc.” That’s always felt a little hollow to me because Sanji is not Robin and they don’t have the same motivation.
No, absolutely. And I’m glad you mentioned it because it’s phenomenal how well Zou has aged. They manage to give these characterization moments to Robin and Sanji and the crew while introducing all this stuff and managing to make us care about all of it. There are people that are like “I can’t wait for Carrot to officially join the crew,” and it all stems from this story arc.
Tumblr media
In terms of characters that get done so well that even though their time with you is brief, they still stick with you for a long time, I think a good example is Pedro. He joins everyone and he’s this stoic, mentor figure, a character type that usually doesn't fare so well when it comes to surviving anime series intact. And obviously, RIP Pedro. But it’s a testament to what you’re talking about because he just joins the crew and you’re like “Yeah, sure. Gimme fifty more chapters of him.”
He’s got this cool eye patch, he has a beef with Big Mom, he knows about the world. And he’s the one who’s sort of the most hesitant to trust the Straw Hats at first after the disaster with Jack and all. But by the ending, he knows that the Straw Hats are the guys that he’s been waiting for. This is the crew that will bring upon that new dawn. And we haven’t even talked about Pekoms yet! He has those ties to Big Mom and to Bepo and to Zou and to Pedro and to Capone, who shoots him.
What do you think of the Poneglyph system? It’s both indicative of the Straw Hat endgame, but it isn’t like this magic map. What do you think of it as kind of a quest marker?
It’s great because you learn that there are a definite few that mean something and that they’re all being held at various places that are run by Emperors. So trying to find them gives you an actual reason to fight these Emperors of the Sea and heading into their territories. They don’t really need to be fighting Kaido in the grand scheme of things, but the Poneglyphs add to the direction of the series.
  ONE PIECE LIGHTNING ROUND!
  Favorite character?
  Trafalgar D. Water Law.
  Favorite Straw Hat?
I go back and forth between three, but Sanji.
  Favorite villain?
  Doflamingo.
If you could live on any One Piece island, where would you call home?
Dressrosa without Doflamingo would actually be pretty nice.
  Favorite One Piece fight?
  Luffy vs Lucci.
One Piece moment that made you sob the most?
“Raizo is safe!” I was so overwhelmed with emotion, seeing the resolve of the Minks.
One Piece moment that made you cheer the loudest?
Sabo getting the Flare-Flare Fruit in Dressrosa.

(purupurupuru) (purupurupuru) (click!) (coo!) (coo!)
Happy Monday, minna-san! I hope everyone had a safe, fun Halloween. Now with October behind, November has arrived, and it’s the autumn breeze swaying the leaves. Be sure to rake your yard. Enough said, let’s get the show on the road. We have some goodies to share w/ you. First off, last week’s chapter seems to be looking up as Luffy is pushing back even harder to knock down Dogtooth, but he won’t hold back either as he’s gonna return the big punch back. Meanwhile, Sanji and the girls are still making the cake with very little time to spare. At the end, the sea slugs that were supposed to send signals on Nami & gang, are being relieved from their duties as Praline is singing her heart out to give them a break from their jobs. GUA! This is gonna hinder the plan to track the gang. Too bad! Ha ha ha! Will the song last? Let’s see this week. This past weekend’s episode has the whole gang in a pickle as they all got captured by the nasty kids of BM. Meanwhile, Brook and Pedro reached the treasure room, and now have to find a way to get the poneglyphs by distracting another sweet commander we finally meet, Smoothie. FYI: The lucky seiyuu who will portray Smoothie will be none other than Katsuki Masako-san! WHOO-HOO! YAY! She is known for her popular role as Tsunade from Naruto & Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon. GUA! She totally squeezed that girls from her last drop of juice! Yikes! Anyway, the boys have to find a way to lure her away to get the poneglyphs. Next time, Luffy lashes out at BM even more that he’ll totally escape, defeat her, and rescue Sanji! Can he juggle all three at the same time? Let’s see how the argument goes. Now on with the goods! First off, FIGURINES! More new ones! First, tomorrow, all arcades will thie awesome new figurine of Shanks in battle mode. Another awesome figurine will be this Glitter & Glamour of Nami in her Christmas outfit in red and black color. Just in time for any of you looking to decorate your room with holiday stuff. Wanna win? Get your coins, get set! GO WIN!!! Moving on, it has been announced that Hong Kong will be opening a One Piece restaurant this December so if any of you wanna try some themed character grub for the holidays, be sure to visit the place. Loads of spicy and sweet meat they’ll have. More info will be posted later on. Next, Thailand will be having a One Piece Run in December 17th. They give away medals to everyone who participates, and if you register, you’ll receive a free official t-shirt w/ Luffy in it. Next, Sante FX released another eye drop bottle designs, and this time it’s Zoro and Sanji w/ cool colors. They are still selling Luffy and Law as well. Sante FX is having a campaign where they’ll give out cool prizes. To participate, follow their Twitter page @santeFX_OP and retweet their ads of the prizes. Winners will be announced through DM. This only applies to those who reside w/in Japan. Next, a new game app will be released next year called OP Bounty Rush. A game where you can play w/ other players. No info on how will it be, but if you wanna keep track of it, we’ll leave the link. Last but not least, here is the new cover of Log Collection of the Dressrosa arc titled “Sabo” which has him on the cover. If you pre-order this, you’ll receive 2 free folders of Sabo and Koala which of course she’s included. The DVD box will be released on Jan.26th. Here is also the cover for the special episode of East Blue which has Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Ussop, and Sanji. The DVD will be released on Nov.24th. We mentioned before that if you order this, you’ll get a free wooden coaster of Luffy and a small colorful tote purse. Well, I think we covered everything. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach us out. We’ll be glad to help you. Well, that’s all for now. Tune in next week for more news and events. Don’t miss out! Kikko! Momon! Nicely done, boys.

Chapter 878
So the new chapter’s out and so far (spoilers obviously) we’ve recapped the previous chapter and after effects of Pedro’s sacrifice. Don’t get me wrong, I still think that his sacrifice was extremely brave and brought this whole cake island arc from what I assumed to be a small insignificant one to an actually interesting one. (although I don't know why I'm getting this feeling that Oda’s going to pull a Pell from the alabasta arc)
However, with that being said, I still think that the straw hats should get off whole cake island as soon as possible and I don't think that they should drag it on since one the crew isn’t fully grouped and two, I can’t wait for the Wano arc and for Robin to read the Poneglyphs. With that being said, I found that writing Luffy to stay behind was unnecessary, it made Pedro’s sacrifice completely insignificant and when he knocked out the mirror back to the sunny, this means that he’ll have to find a way back somehow which also leads to more chapters for this arc. Also, a fight between Luffy and Katakuri is inevitable and if Luffy wins than I call on bullshit, but if Luffy loses than once again we’ll get stuck in this arc for even longer, so for me it’s a losing situation in both ways.
With that being said, I still fully believe in Oda and shouldn’t judge the situation before finishing the story arc because back in dressrosa I constantly complained about how long an annoying it was but when I re read it recently, I found it was not only necessary to be this long but also extremely fun to read. I am looking forward to what Oda has in mind for the future of the one piece story.

One Piece AU?
Give me an AU and I will write 5 ideas/headcanons for our muses in that AU
I kinda ail to see the point of sending this in on anon, but I’ll humour you. Let’s see what One Piece Sceada could look like
Sceada is a Rat Mink from Zou and was part of Pedro’s Nox Pirates
Being a Mink, he is able to use Electro. On top of that, he fights with a naginata-type weapon as well as explosives he carries with himself
When their crew was defeated in Totto Land, Sceada was among those who escaped, he did however not return to Zou, ashamed of his failure to protect his comrades or to retrieve a Poneglyph
Sceada has traveled the New World since, intent on finding a Poneglyph that he could take back to Zou instead of Big Mom’s, but found himself outmatched in confrontations and often had to flee.
In a strange twist of fate, upon ending up on Punk Hazard, Sceada finds and consumes a Devil Fruit, the Yuki Yuki no Mi and becomes a Snow Person just like Monet had been before him.
Yeah I know, number 5 is a bit of a stretch… - But the fruit is out there somewhere, right? And wouldn’t it be all too fitting for Sceada? Also, with snow powers, combined with his fiery explosives and Electro he’d be having a skillset not too far removed from a Black Mage…

Tinfoil Discussions: One Piece Wano Arc
So this is gonna be a new thing; I don’t particularly post on Tumblr but I am the kinda guy who likes to put thoughts out there, so this is the first ‘Tinfoil Discussion’ where I’ll just be ranting personal opinions of various mediums. This first discussion involving One Piece’s Wano Arc.
It’s worth noting that there are Spoilers enclosed in this discussion up to One Piece Chapter 954, if you’re not caught up then I would advise not reading this until then...unless you’re not worried about spoilers. Also this’ll be an essay, no light reading here I have a lot flowing through my head.
So the Wano Arc has been something we’ve been waiting long for, not just because it was promising to be a Zoro-heavy arc but because it had been mentioned continuously and central to many elements of One Piece Lore; it’s where the Meito are made, the Poneglyphs were carved and is the den of Yonko, Kaido. Right now we’re in the second act of the arc, in 5 days the Ninja-Samurai-Pirate-Mink Alliance will take back Wano from Shogun Orochi and then hope to defeat (and potentially even kill) Kaido in Onigashima
Here’s the But though, is that enough time?
Because I don’t actually think so anymore. Undoubtedly the Fire Festival will not go to plan, not that anything ever will, but such bodes the question where we go after. Right now I can only think of two routes; the first is that the Wano Country Arc is utilizing a 5-Act Structure rather than the 3 that’s common with story narrative or Wano is the setting of 2 Arcs (Similar to Jaya/Skypeia or Water 7/Enies Lobby): Wano Country and the ‘War of Wars’ arc. Either one is something I am all for, even both would make narrative sense, so how will it pan out?
What will go wrong? (Note if the discussion cut off here I apologise, it seems CTRL+Enter is to post) The Obvious thing that will halt the Straw Hats is the Alliance between Kaido and Big Mom, both of whom having an axe to grind with Luffy due to their activities in Punk Hazard, Dressrosa and Whole Cake Island. There’s also other things at play though; the threat of Law ending his alliance (doubt he will), Edward Weevil’s pursuit of Marco, the creation of Sea Prism Stone weapons, CP0 in the Flower Capital and the lingering uncertainty that is what Kyoshiro is planning. All of these will likely lead to the Alliance either failing at Onigashima or failing to reach Onigashima, hopefully the latter, but that does not mean that the arc will be for naught. The Straw Hats are not strangers to taking the Big Picture L; Water 7, Sabaody, Marineford and WCI prove this, so what matters to this stage of Wano (possibly Act 3) is the small victory.
The Small Victory The plan on paper is simple; meet at the port, usurp the vulnerable capital, sail to Onigashima, defeat Kaido. Since the last two as we’ve covered are where the L starts to take shape, the victory must lie in saving the people of Wano and fulfilling Toki’s prophecy. Usurping Orochi does not seem to be as troublesome as defeating Kaido, even ‘Hiyori’ was able to throw him into a wall, the only true threat level is in Kyoshiro and the All Stars. This is something that can easily pan out the alliance’s way, but the victory could be gifted rather than seized. As I mentioned, Kyoshiro has yet to play his hand, how ‘Hiyori’ faked her death still unknown, it would seem that the Yakuza boss has his own plans, something that when the Alliance comes could end the usefulness of Shogun Orochi. As a result, Kyoshiro may allow the Alliance to take Orochi down, losing the battle so he can fight in the War. This theory also aligns with why I’m using parenthesis on Kozuki Hiyori - I still don’t trust her. But we’ll get to that, the other victory that would need to be addressed is the cure for SMILE, a role that may happen before or after claiming the Capital, it is certainly a thread we must resolve before leaving Wano and it can be proving ground for Chopper’s medical expertise - already impressive since he easily remedied Queen’s Mummy virus.
Kozuki ‘Hiyori’ Even if she is Hiyori - not that Kawamatsu recognized her, there is the consideration that the considered ‘most beautiful courtesan in Wano’ may be on Kyoshiro’s side. For over a decade he did look after her and they made a note that she knows how to play the long con, Kyoshiro also compares the courtesan like one of his own family, something she may feel like her Father didn’t provide. This could make her the anti-Pudding of the arc, which some may be annoyed by but it would be an ironic juxtaposition since Pudding played the ‘Woman as Temptress’ role for Zoro’s...rival? Brother? Brival? Sanji, whatever Sanji is, but Hiyori has done little to truly connect with Zoro the way she has tempted other men, woman even jumped into bed with him while he slept and he wasn’t impressed. So her turning on her kin can also give a unique personal twist to the Oden Clan’s involvement against Kaido and it may gift Shusui to Kyoshiro for his and Zoro’s proper clash, Enma possibly being a fake as she finally found something she can con out of Zoro - that could just be me wanting Zoro to keep the black blade though. This is whether she is indeed Kozuki Hiyori, and not someone who knows the story, though I’m 80% sure she is on that front, Oda is a man of misdirection.
The Reverie Connection Part of what makes me think that Wano will go beyond the Fire Festival is this connection to the Reverie, the brilliant mini-arc left on a cliffhanger as intermission between Acts 1 and 2, and slightly carried by Bege’s cover story, but it had information that bled into Wano. Come Act 2′s end, I expect the Reverie arc to resume so that we get new action, the Alliance of Big Mom and Kaido will certainly reach the Marines, through moles or CP0 as they return, this is likely what’s going to cause them to converge and let us know more about the Rox Pirates. This may also be position for another mystery of One Piece to rear itself: Dr Vegapunk. Vegapunk is hot commodity, he knows how to manipulate seastone, has most likely treated the Punk Hazard children and knows about the Vinsmoke genetics from his old partnership with Judge, there is also the Warlord Replacement Fujitora and the hidden Ryokogyu have discussed. Atop of the Im and Revolutionary plot notes will lead plenty of butterfly effects for mid and post-Wano storyline, but for Kaido to get his war the WG would need to get involved (and they’d want to keep an eye on the land that wrote the poneglyphs), and it will take time either way, much more than 5 days.
What the Aftermath of the Fire Festival Will Bring The Alliance’s initial failure to defeat Kaido is likely what’ll lead to the thing that makes Oda tout that Wano will make Marineford look small. The convergence of the WG will bring big guns and showcase some more of the Marine’s strength of force and how it can impact the rest of the world, with hope I’d like to see Tashigi get the arc she was due from Wano too, she is a swordswoman and this is the land of swords, also I’m tired of people calling her weak (all her opponents are high tier; Monet almost killed Luffy, Vergo almost broke Sanji’s leg, Law cut a mountain and Vergo in half, I could go on), moments for characters to step up can be built properly in this time as well, because all the Straw Hats need that next level bolster. Sanji may have the Raid Suit, Nami may have Zeus and Luffy is learning the Advanced Haki but the likes of Zoro, Usopp, Chopper, Robin and potentially Franky can use this stage to properly announce themselves to the world. We can also use this time for the much-theorized Zoro origin lore, Poneglyph stuff and Marco’s message to Luffy, this may also provide time to pick up threads left by WCI; Jimbei, the Vinsmokes, Pedro, this may also provide time for Big Mom’s remaining forces (primarily Pudding and Katakuri) and the Straw Hat Grand Fleet to converge on Wano also. There are also loose ends with Wano; the person Hitetsu is waiting for, Kidd’s Crew, Denjuro, Ox Third Boy, Basil Hawkins (hope that guy is alive), the possibility of a codenamed Ace of Kaido’s crew, the frustrating absence of Carrot throughout most of the arc (such a downfall from potential Nakama to not even in background), possibly even the Oars connection to Kaido’s Numbers, above all of them however is the appearance of someone that has been frequently hinted as of late...
Gekko Moria Moria isn’t popular with fans, but his positioning in Wano is something we should take note, Bege was going to Thriller Bark, Moria has escaped Blackbeard’s clutches, Perona is looking for him and his graverobbing has been mentioned. I think Moria could get involved in Wano, and be partly instrumental in allowing Zoro to keep Shusui, his axe to grind with Kaido may also be a useful weapon against him and Big Mom, using Zombie Samurai to improve numbers. Like Buggy and Cesar, he may end up being a reluctant temporary ally to the Straw Hats. Moria can also provide Blackbeard intel, but I don’t expect him to stick, may go the way of Bellamy and bow out after.
So that’s stuff that mulls around my head, theories of factor as to why I expect Wano to last longer, possibly even beyond Chapter 1000. To conclude I’ll just throw on some mini theories I have:
Zoro will at least buddy with Onimaru the Lion Fox, for a while. Zoro is fox in Spanish and he has Shimotsuki connections even if he isn’t of their clan due to Koushiro living in Shimotsuki village
We’re gonna learn something about Ace, he was a Spade Pirate and Kaido names his ranks after playing cards, there is a link
Luffy, Law and Kidd will fight together, just as they did in Sabaody
The Crew will only properly reunite in Onigashima, where they will have a Walk
We’ll learn of why Wano was the City of Gold, and Caribou may reap from it (I like his face turn but I don’t trust his greed)
Sandai Kitetsu will break, probably to Kyoshiro’s hand - this could be a la Rurouni Kenshin, whose Sakabato was destroyed
Kaido will face Monster Point Chopper, Chopper and his Rumble Balls should really be something Kaido would want
Big Mom will betray Kaido (’mama always makes the preemptive move’), Hawkins will join a new crew (I think he was betrayed, there were cuffs on the wall where he lay before Law) - be it Big Mom or the Grand Fleet and Momo will not be the next Shogun, I guess Hyou could be but he was a Yakuza leader, but Momo wants to learn about Zou and I think he’ll stick with that
Dogstorm and Nekomamushi will go Su Long
As well as the Bounty Increase, several Straw Hats will get new titles. Titles like ‘Pirate Hunter’, ‘Cat Burglar’, ‘Devil Child’ and ‘Cotton Candy Lover’ are not befitting of crew members anymore
So yeah, got that all off my chest...I won’t just talk about One Piece I’ll have more, if anyone reads hope it had some refreshing insights, if not then we’ll see how wrong I was XD

One Piece 853 thoughts
After the long pause, having two chapters in a row is something I’m strangely unfamiliar with O.o though, as you may know, Oda’s frequent pauses - added to the regular ones of Shounen Jump - are due to his health: so it’s a good thing he takes them, we need him alive and well to finish the manga - so for at least another 20 years. Stay healthy, Oda-sensei, please. The good thing though is that on the cover they seemingly announce they’ve set a twitter account for the “behind the scenes” of One Piece drawing? Great! I’m looking forward to see whose desk is messier, if Oda’s or mine XD
For what concerns the cover... after the last few covers with Robin’s art and Brook’s love song and so on, this one’s a bit disappointing for not having any particular hints at something, as it simply shows something we already know so well: Barto’s love for the mugis.
Tumblr media
So Brook was defeated - or did he let Big Mom defeat him? - I was a fan of the “Brook-won’t-defeat-Big-Mom-at-most-tie-with-her-barely-escaping-with-his-soul” club since the day of its foundation, and I’m glad today to celebrate with its members. Honestly: IMO it’d be a stretch if Luffy defeated BM now, not to mention Brook...! But his ability let him:
1. survive - as the piece of a collection, but beggars can’t be choosers
2. hold his ground against her for a while
3. possibly* steal the poneglyph anyway - *whereas by possibly I intend “almost certainly”, or he wouldn’t have made that big speech in not one, but even two chapters, about the courage of Pedro acting as decoy, Luffy becoming Pirate King and etc etc all of that heroic stuff - I don’t know how, but his fruit must have come in handy
We also learn that not only Zeus and Prometheus, but also the Big Mom’s hat, which has a name - technically it has a soul, so I shouldn’t freak out, but still,  a hat with a name... -, have a part of Mom’s soul, and therefore are stronger than all the iother homies. From the looks of it, it could be that they act sort of as clones of hers, and of her power, and by that her power is multiplied. I don’t know what kind of abilities a hat - ???? maybe it makes her smarter,  - could have, but Zeus and Prometheus have their weather power and so they are already pretty strong. For now, this is the overview of Mama’s powers.
Tumblr media
So someone else “stole” Mama’s poneglyph before. It isn’t clear how, if Roger did indeed steal or copy them, or he simply “perceived” them or their translation - he must have perceived thier translation, since, as we know from Silver Rayleigh’s story, they didn’t have any Ohara scholars with them who could translate it - unlike our Mugis, who conveniently have Robin with them.
Tumblr media
What is certain though is that Roger’s ability must be linked to the ability of this so called Three-Eyed tribe, from which Pudding’s unknown father must hail from. Mama evidently hoper for her to be able to translate them for her one day.
Getting to the Die Hard movie part of this chapter, Pedro is fighting Baron Tamago’s evolution
Tumblr media
I beg your pardon, Viscount Chick.
Tamago, or Chick, whatever, seems so well fused with his devil fruit ability that I’m suspecting he might have been an object that ate a devil fruit, originally - it wouldn’t be strange to introduce such things, which we know can exist in-universe, in this specific arc where everything and everyone has souls*
*where by “souls” I mean “life”. Not souls souls. They all are pieces of s***.
Tumblr media
I don’t know why but these two panels are hilarious to me. Look at him, the poor thing on the ground. A omelette.
And another Alice in Wonderland reference, as when Humpty Dumpty fell of the wall... yup. And then...
Tumblr media
BADASS MODE
Yup. Who doesn’t appreciate a nice explosion every now and then?
Tumblr media
Carrot and Chopper save Pedro from becoming a kamikaze - not so fashionable in these geopolitical period, you know - by oulling him in the Mirror World with them, where they move around in a merry company holding hostages Brulée and a train dude.
On a side not, it may be my having watched too many idiot animes in my teenage years or just the meme, but Carrot has the “Senpai” mode on. It’s all the memes’ fault. Gettin to the very hightlight of the chapter, because f*** BIg MoM, f*** the poneglyphs, Roger, the third-eyed tribe revelation, Pudding, her power, Luffy, Sanji...
THIS
Tumblr media
is what I’ve been waiting for my whole life.
Just kidding, just since Oda started being so lovey-dovey, so around the time of Babt 5 and Sai and then Praline and Aladdine. Because when you start moving around the genre, you also have to parody it, and here we are, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, in all its glory, the shoujo parody.
It reminds me so fricking much of “The rose of Versailles”, though I never watched it - too many ribbons honestly - the style is just that. Funny also because both Luffy and Sanji look like females just as much as Nami. Also, kudos to Carrot for even finding the time to draw additional around roses around. These are the little things that make me say Sensei’s a genius. For the big things, we got Rafter and co., for all the rest, this.
From the Mirror we also learn thet Jinbei and Nami are moving around the castle, probably planning something big - or at least that’s what I hope, we’re not getting out of here without a very good plan and a certain number of side plans.
In the meantime, Luffy’s making a ruckus - no surprise here - trying to find Sanji. Things are getting bad though, because a “Minister class backup” has been requested, meaning someone other than Cracker and Smoothie but just as strong as them will come for his head - which is still missing a teeth!! Someone fix it already! Bropper ! Where are you when we need you?
Tumblr media
Confirm that Reiju’s strong above - second confirmation, she did bend jail bars as a kid.
Also Oda’s making her stay almost naked just casually like that, lol, okay.
Tumblr media
That’s lovely of you, Luffy, but East Blue is not literally around the corner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Just a little more of Luffy being the sweetest cinnamon roll to be ever baked in the whole Grand Line...
Tumblr media
...A random close-up of Reiju cause she’s pretty and has a big heart, though she says she doesn’t..
Tumblr media
And then... here we are now.
Sanji’s been smelling the inviting fragrance of freedom for a while now. Last chapter even Reiju supported him and the list of pros for him playing the sacrifice gets thinner every second. Though he still appears upset, I don’t think he’s being weighed down by remorse anymore, has instead finally started devising a fricking plan. I cannot express into words how much I hope he has. Why else leaving Reiju’s side or reflecting yet again on all the pros and cons?
There’s no going back now... Luffy...
Here I don’t think he’s referring to himself not going back - though we should wait for other translations to confirm it -, but to the situation that they, collectively as Mugiwaras, have come to. They have not only angered a yonkou, Sanji’s murderous family, risked a ton of lives other than their owns... they have done all of this in one moment and in one place: now, they can either submit to eveything or rebel to eveything, therefore they must bet everything in order to achieve it. And that resolve has now been made by the cook as well.
He will try and find a way to make everything work as a whole: save his crew, his true father back in East Blue, his sister - I’m not bettin he’d save the brothers and father too, but we’ll see -, himself. Since Jinbei and Nami are now free to act and Bropper and Co are being productive as well, a masterplan could come out of what had started as a total disaster - something like the plan in Gold, though that is not canon, a plan that includes arriving to the Spannung moment, which is the wedding ceremony, and then turning things upside down, using the enemies abilities against them. And that is why I’m thinking Mr. Prince, not Sanji the Cook, steps in on the wedding day.
Tumblr media
Finally: will Luffy be a part of said plan? Does he really intend to wait outside in that place until Sanji finishes things off in front of the altar? We’ll see. Apparently the Captain trusts the Cook enough to let him deal with it himself.
And now, if you excuse me, I’ll go cry over the beauty of this.
