Narumayo Week 2023 Day 3

Making it in time with a vague RPG-of-your-choice AU!

Prompt: Video Games

The job board was empty again.

Phoenix sighed and returned to the lopsided table, where his cup of grape juice tilted precariously. He took a swig of the warm liquid, a meager distraction from Larry’s awful lute tuning. His friend’s bardic aspirations were lofty, though at least, he usually had someone take pity and toss a coin in his direction.

A paladin was a different story. Rare and without a properly recognized guild of their own, they scrambled for what was left by the fighters, barbarians, and monks. And there usually wasn’t much to pick from, if at all. The inn room wasn’t free either. No, Phoenix needed a job. In the meantime, he was forced to loosen the straps of his armor and endure Larry’s repertoire tonight.

At first, people filtered in and out, enjoying their drinks and meals. However, a rumble of thunder signaled an early rest, and the following storm meant a drought of customers. The waning notes of plucked lute strings almost sounded like a passable song, just as Phoenix dozed off.

The creak of door hinges jolted him awake. It was already late; the hearth’s embers were glowing deep orange, barely enough to ward off the night’s chill. Larry wasn’t around, his lute leaning against the wall; he must have wandered off temporarily. The dining area was otherwise empty, except for the newcomer.

The set of purple robes marked the young woman as a mage of some kind, although unlike any other magic wielder Phoenix had seen. She lowered her hood and her eyes practically lit up at the sight of the dying fire. She raced over, before sitting on her heels with a long drawn-out breath of relief. Her outstretched fingers wiggled and the hearth suddenly roared to a blaze.

“Whoa, too much…sorry!” The flames calmed and she nodded. “That’s better.” Then, she noticed Phoenix and flinched in surprise.

“It’s okay, I don’t mind. Is it raining a lot outside?”

“Like you wouldn’t believe!” She cast a cantrip, drying herself off. “I didn’t know they had paladins in this town.”

Oh, she recognized his class. He felt a little pleased. “Uh, I’m between work. I travel around the area, doing odd jobs in the meantime. My name’s Phoenix.”

“I’m Maya, cleric-in-training.”

“In training?”

“Not yet. It’s kind of a long story, but I left my village to meet with my sister. She’s in the capital, sending money home…I haven’t seen her in ages. I think I’m off the main road though.”

He considered the distance. “Yeah, it’s a couple weeks away on foot. Not an easy journey to make by yourself, with all the bandits and monsters and rough terrain.”

She slumped. “That’s what I was afraid of. I guess I’ll need someone to help.”

The thought was mutual, because they asked at the same time.

“Can I escort you?”

“Can you escort me?”

They stared at each other for a moment, before bursting into laughter.

“You can’t leave me!” Larry bemoaned. The morning sunlight only underscored his puffy eyes.

Ignoring the crocodile tears, Phoenix hoisted the pack of standard rations over his shoulder. “Well, you could come along, if it weren’t for…who again?”

The name was indistinct through his blubbering. “I can’t give up when I’m this close to winning her over!”

“So, just wait and I’ll be back soon.”

“Niiick…when you do, I’ll be filthy rich and famous!” With those final words, he retreated into the nearest tavern.

“You’d think he could do that in the capital.” Maya remarked. “Well, we’ve got each other’s backs. Anything I can help with?”

“Carrying the map would be a good start.” He dryly said and walked beyond the town’s boundary, following the dusty road.

Phoenix was already aware they’d reach the woods before dusk, and that typically meant an ambush if he lowered his guard. He had his trusty sword and shield, while Maya’s magical focus was an unfamiliar comma-shaped pendant. And they didn’t have a lot of valuables otherwise, even the minor health and mana potions were a bargain deal.

They were on schedule, stopping at the edge of the forest for lunch. As they scarfed down their sandwiches, he kept a close eye on the underbrush, which didn’t go unnoticed by Maya.

“Have you been in a lot of fights?”

“A few, mostly bailing Larry out of a misunderstanding. There are bigger and stronger folks, but in battle, it’s more important to think your way through. Knowing the enemy, the environment, your abilities…and coming up with an idea to win.”

“I see, it makes sense.” She nodded.

And that was when the harpies attacked.

The only warning was a screech, and razor-sharp talons just missed Phoenix’s head. He tackled Maya to the ground, bringing up his shield. A snarling visage under a cloud of pink hair soared overhead, rosy feathers fluttering in her wake. From a different direction, a wizened harpy began to drill her beaked face against the shield. Maya whispered under her breath, and an emerald green burst struck a brunette wielding a large fishbone. A flock of three.

Phoenix unsheathed his sword and parried each strike, especially against the particularly vicious pink harpy. Maya was holding her own, her pendant glowing brightly; she redirected the fishbone to escape its owner, who gave chase.

The silver-haired one switched tactics, diving towards Maya. She cast a barrage of ice crystals, but they melted too quickly. Phoenix pushed her out of the way, knocking the harpy with his shield. But she didn’t go down, stubbornly charging again. He was readying himself, when he realized too late that the pink one was flanking. She shrieked, ripping off his bracer. His forearm stung.

He wasn’t certain what happened next, the spellwork involved was totally foreign. A dark shroud surrounded Maya, towering to rival the treetops. Faint voices echoed, and the temperature dropped to an eerie chill. Shadowy tendrils extended from her fingertips, not necromantic, though the otherworldly nature couldn’t be denied. The harpies seemed to decide the fight was no longer worth it, the younger two grabbing the squawking old one and flying out of sight.

“What…was that?” He blinked. “Maya!”

She was brought to her knees, looking dazed. Whatever magic it was, it succeeded but had overtaxed her. He scanned for injuries, despite her protests; she was alright though bruised and fatigued. He rummaged through the pack, the two minor potions rolling into his weak grip.

“You can save the health one. Here, let me.” Her hands hovered over the wound, and green energy pulsed, closing the torn skin.

He flexed his arm, only a twinge of pain. “Thanks, Maya. That feels better already.”

“But it’s my fault you were hurt. I have to get stronger.” She somberly said. “So I can protect the people I care about.”

“I feel the same.” Protecting those who couldn’t defend themselves…that was the oath he swore and would keep until his last breath. He nudged the mana potion towards her. “In the meantime, let’s rest and recover.”

After a moment’s hesitation, she gingerly accepted the small bottle. “Thanks, Nick.” She uncorked it and swallowed the mouthful. “Ugh, you didn’t mention this tasted nasty!”

“Sorry, I didn’t know!”

Originally I posted this on my art blog, but since I decided to just make her part of the Eddsworld Monster High AU instead of Monster High in general, I'm reposting her here.

Originally I was going to make Blaze a fire elemental, but that's already been done twice with Holt and Heath (not that's there's anything wrong with making same-species monsters) so I decided to make her a Phoenix, a species that's rare since there's only one character that's a phoenix (and a hybrid(?) no less), Flara Blaze. Anyways, onto the bio!

Bio Parents A Phoenix Age 16 Killer Style I prefer coats and jackets, even if it’s really hot. Shorts are always my go-to pair of pants, I’m a fan of sneakers and boots, and I can’t go wrong with some fingerless gloves. I don't know what you'd call it, perhaps "causal but adventurous"? Freaky Flaw I get easily frustrated, whether it be too many people or things overwhelming me, something doesn’t go according to plan, or someone is giving me some unwanted sass, It’s easy to get me fired up, but hard to keep my cool. Pet I have this adorable cat named Felix, he’s still young, fiery (quite literally!) and feisty but he’ll cool off at some point. Favorite Activity I like to draw, listen to electronic music, and play video games, I especially like platformers and RPG games. But if we're talking about a more specific one, I love to fly! The feeling of freedom soaring through my heart and the touch of winds gracing my wings makes me feel so...alive! Pet Peeve When people give me lip for acting the way I do, It's none of your business if I'm being introverted, desperate, feisty, or sensitive sometimes! Did nobody tell you you can't control a fire? Favorite Subject Art, you can say that I’m the creative type. Film, Horror Literature, and History of the Undead are also pretty interesting. Least Favorite Subject Any classes that are really boring tend to get an slight ire out of me, But out of all of them...Swimming. Not only do I struggle with swimming, but the water doesn’t do my feathers any good. Favorite Color(s) Orange (and Black) Favorite Food(s)

Oh that's a toughie. But my current favorite is macaroni and cheese, especially if it’s homemade and a bit spicy. My favorite drink is lemonade in case you’re curious.

Abilities

Pyrokinesis As a phoenix is made/born of fire, Blaze has power over fire, usually from her hands.

Flight Blaze is able to fly using the wings on her back.

Longevity Phoenixes can live for 500 years

Immortality Blaze is technically immortal, as she, like all phoenixes, cannot permanently die. See below for Reincarnation.

Ash Resurrection and Reincarnation When phoenixes die, they disintegrate into ashes. From which an egg (or for humanoids such as Blaze, a baby) will rise from them. However, when they reincarnate, they have no memory of their past life or identity.

Bonus Notes (More to possibly be added in the future)

Blazes wings and tail (and on rare occasions her entire body) will flare up if excited, angered, or lovestruck. The intensity of the flames depends on the intensity of the emotion

Maka Albarn thought she had no need to worry about being chosen for the Hunger Games. Her name was in the reaping the least amount of times possible for someone her age, and her father was a victor. It should have been impossible.

But it wasn't. When she is chosen as the female tribute for District Eleven she is thrust into the Capitol and the Hunger Games, where appearances and surviving go hand in hand, and it's nearly impossible to tell an enemy from a friend.

The masquerade had begun.

20: How would your OC handle being handed a leadership role unexpectedly?

Skylar - Answered here

Liz - Oh she would love it, but she wouldn’t make a good one. She never wanted to be in the military in the first place so she would half-ass everything. However she would have LOVED it if it happened with her past squad. If Rorke gave her that leadership role for whatever reason, she would make her families life a living hell. Well, besides Logan, she likes Logan.

21: Is there a symbol associated with your OC? If so, what is it and why?

Skylar - A Phoenix! Besides her finding true love and all that jazz with Tachanka, her true story is her old self dying and being reborn. Like a Phoenix. She goes through a lot joining the Marines, which was too be expected in a sense, but when Henry came into her life every thing changed for the worse. A once very happy, chipper young women became a very scared, and timid one. A few years pass and she joins Rainbow. But meeting and getting together with Tachanka was a slight push to her rebirth, I guess. It wasn’t until after the Outbreak, after her recovery that she finally said enough. And she left that old Skylar ‘die’ and was born anew.

Liz - She doesn’t have one, at least not right now.

Skylar - She has one on her neck that leads down to her collarbone that she got when her squad was ambushed. An RPG hit the car she was in and sent her flying down a hill, some shrapnel hit her on the explosion. Gunshot would to her shoulder, that she got on one of her first cases when she joined the FBI. A scar on her abdomen from the outbreak, that I can’t say cause of spoilers and a few smaller ones from when she was a child.

Liz - A few gunshot wounds to her shoulder, arm, right leg from getting shot during missions. Burn scars from being set on fire by Shepherd. A scar on her right eyebrow from knife training. And she has a small scar from when Riley (as a pup) accidentally bit her hand when she had the toy.

I’m putting it under a read more because I’m about to mention a major spoiler for Jade Helm. So if you don’t want to know I’d skip over question 23.

23: What moment did your OC feel the most powerful?

Skylar - When she finally got the courage enough to stand up against her abuser. In a warzone no less. Henry ends up talking his way into her team as they got to find the Soviet-era capsule. They end up getting attacked by a horde and separated, Skylar unfortunately getting stuck with him. After a lot of not so nice things being said about her and Tachanka, she ends up shooting him. Skylar knew that shot would alert any infected nearby, so she just leaves him for dead. After all that torment he gave her, she finally had the upper hand.

Liz - When she completely cut her dad and Hesh out of her life for good. She never told them and she knew it would kill her dad knowing he didn’t know shit about her life. Logan did because she kept him in it. The only time her dad knew anything was when she was engaged and went back to her old base to ask Rorke if he could walk her down the aisle in front of her dad.

24: What moment did your OC feel the weakest?

Skylar - During the ambush, when she lost her whole squad, best friend Molly included. She knew there was nothing to be done, the car Molly was in was in flames, she couldn’t get to her. Still she felt hopeless, weak. Also every moment she spent with Henry.

Liz - When Archer dies. He was giving them overwatch while they got the intel from Makarov’s safehouse. There was nothing she could do, they weren’t even close to each other. But at that moment she lost one of her closest friends in the 141 (and fuck buddy) and it sucked.

25:What would have to happen to get your OC to succumb to the darkest parts of themself? If they’re already there, what would bring them closer to the light?

Skylar - Anything happening to her kids. Her job is dangerous as is dealing with terrorists, but if any of those White Masks decided to use them for leverage. Oh you’re about to meet a very, very, very different Skylar.

Liz - Yeah she made it there long ago. Joining the 141 brought her closer to the light, but it was Ghost who really brought her there. To her it was amazing that she found someone who understood her, because they both had to deal with abusive fathers.

Onmyoji AU: The Phoenix from the West, Blessed and Cursed

Disclaimer: This verse is based on the Onmyoji rpg and information I found about North America during the suggested time period and from other AUs. This includes the early encounters with European settlers and the damage of colonialism. Although I could not find records of Native Americans being in Japan around the earlier eras, other ethnicities have been there.This includes Yasuke, a samurai of African descent from the 16th century. This also touches on Eastern mythology of the phoenix. I thought this would be symbolism of Harmony’s journey of rising from tragedies, if that makes sense. I did my best to combine Eastern and Western Indigenous perspectives and this I will continue to work on it.

This could be subject to change when more information can be found and this AU is open to suggestions for improvement. Triggers are tagged.

TLDR: A cleric who would not let bad things that happened keep her down. She travels as a healer with the capabilities to bless and invoke divine intervention, which can affect weaker spirits and demons.

It is hard to say where she came from. Most people did not know the past behind the quiet young woman who holds a gift that is both a blessing and a curse.

Her journey began as an infant brought to the Land of the Rising Sun.

She was seen as a commodity like her people including her mother. She was born to an Indigenous woman held captive by travelers who bore the skin that was as white as snow and hearts as cold as the bitter winters. Horrible barbarians indeed with greed driving their twisted scheme. Search for gold and precious resources ravaged the land the native people held sacred. They retaliated against the invaders, but these strangers always seem to come back in greater numbers. They attacked the villages, slaughtered the bravest of warriors including the woman’s husband and the father of her child who came to the world in the darkest hours of the night, just before the dawn. Her name was Mato Ciqana (Little Bear), after her father, Mato. Though her mother used to call her Ciqana for short. She was not quite like most babies. A quiet infant who was never fussy or rambunctious and many found endearing for this and for her eyes.

The child’s eyes were not the beautiful dark hues seen by her people, but bright silver, much like the moon. There is a reason to this, but the truth would not be known until later in the child’s life. It was an early sign of what she would become.

Though originally intended to be a slave, a man took pity on the young mother and her baby and took them in. He later married the mother and took Ciqana as his own child. He gave her the name Harmony.

The girl lived her early childhood in Europe and she was more rebellious. Most children made fun of her for her darker complexion, which often led the girl to get into fights. She was scolded for this, but that did little to stop her when she or others were targets of harassment. She lived up to her name, as fierce as the grizzly bear when the time came.

It was often discouraged, but Harmony’s mother secretly taught her about her roots. She was taught her tribe’s language including prayers. Though she was deemed lucky to a protected life from what would have been a grim fate, this would not last. Her father served as a protector of missionaries who would travel to Japan. Harmony and her mother went along with them. This is where blood drenched Harmony’s story. The attack came in the dark of the night when missionaries arrived to Japan. Sinister beings that are not from the mortal realm found fun in reaping the foreign souls.

Almost everyone perished, almost.

When the time came to kill the child, Harmony’s ability came to her aid. She came from a line of wičháša wakȟáŋ and wičháša winyan, holy men and women who healed the people and served the spirits. Though the holy people and healers were chosen by the spirits through dreams and rituals, her first calling came in a dire moment. One of the two demons cast hellish fire on the girl, just to watch her writhe and cry for mercy. Harmony does not remember how it happened. She tearfully said a prayer in her native language, her heart pleading for salvation. Eyes shut tight, she heard the anguished cries of her devilish assailants before they perished by a holy light. They were weaker demons who would fall to holy powers. Harmony remembered the screams, the painful burns of cursed fire searing into her skin, and the tears she shed for her mother.

It was then that darkness swallowed the world around her. Surely, this would have been the end had it not been the child’s will to live and divine intervention that she invoked.

As always, light followed darkness. Harmony woke up to the golden morning light, no longer out in the lone road but in the home of a kind old man. He was a doctor who came across the massacre with the girl being the only survivor. Knowing she is alone, he adopted the child despite not knowing where she came from. From there, he gave her a name to help her blend into Japan’s society.

He called her Mizuki after her gray eyes that shine as bright as the moon. Though she preferred the name Harmony or her birth name, she had no choice but to accept the new name. Though her heart could never be healed after losing her family, she slowly adapted to her new home. Unfortunately, she was badly burned, leaving scars carved into her skin. Ridicule from the village children for her appearance and not having a family incited her old habit of defending herself with violence.

Harmony had to learn the hard way that she should not resort to fighting as she grew older. The fighting stopped as she grew older, but while she became a gentle young woman, she would not tolerate injustice. She became more withdrawn from other people, often seeking refuge in the forest embracing the village where she practiced the old prayers and honed her skill in healing on animals, granting every one of them a new chance at life. While she was taught to be a proper lady, Harmony was not denied learning the ways of medicine as she had an interest in it. Her guardian taught her what he knew, and she incorporated it into her healing capabilities as well as holistic healing that her mother taught her. Harmony would never forget these teachings as it is her way of honoring her people and the spirits who protected her when near the clutches of death.

The old doctor has plans for Harmony who he insisted to call Mizuki as she neared marrying age. There were several suitors as they heard about the girl with skin kissed by the sun and silver eyes that resemble the moon. She held the reputation of being quiet with a kind heart as an adult, nothing like the wild child who acted out. Though her scars turned most of them away, which made courting difficult. She did not mind being single. No, she was not against marriage and wished to have that someday, but believed she was not ready for it. She took her time, though the rejections for her imperfections often hurt her. It didn’t help when rumors about her being inhuman for her healing which was not deemed as normal for humans.

The woman’s life would take another turn as tragedy struck once again. Demons attacked the little village. Harmony did what she could to protect her home and guardian. She did not abandon it, just as her ancestors from the west who stood their ground when invaders attacked.

But there were too many to fend off herself and she fell, seen as dead, but her body was not touched as she laid unconscious in the blood of her fellow villagers. This was due to outside forces intervening in her favor. This was yet another pivotal moment as she would find herself in another world. It was filled with warmth and light. She remembered seeing a proud bird flying above her before it perched before her. It was then that she found that the bird was a phoenix. A powerful voice came from the bird.

“Fear not, child. I have not come to harm you.” He begins, “I come with a message. You have seen what you can do. You can heal the wounds of the body. Your heart is strong and yearns heal broken spirits and spare the innocent souls. This all part of your destiny. You are called to become a holy woman, one who holds the gift of healing the body, mind, and spirit. You hold the gift to protect the weak from darkness and cast away evil.” Harmony remembered these words as though it was yesterday.

“You must go forth and use your skills to heal the sick, protect the weak, and bring light to this dark world. This is the path you will tread. You are like myself. You fell in darkness and cursed flame, but you have risedn again. Just as you will rise again from the ashes where you lay. Go forth and be the light.”

Go forth and be the light...

The dream faded with the spirit’s last words. That was when she woke in the ruins of her home. That is when she noticed a new mark on her body. It’s a mark of a bird with wings outstretched on her back. It was the mark of the spirit. Forced to relive the darkest moment of her life. Alone and surrounded by people who perished in brutal ways.

To this day, Harmony would not forgive herself for being so weak as she wanted to protect others. How she wept for the people around her. Despite their distrust in her and how they made fun of her as children, her heart remained pure and full of love for others. Harmony did what she could for them, giving the villagers their last rites from what was taught to her on this land and from her mother. She gave her goodbyes to the doctor who raised her, no matter how her heart ached, she knew it must be done, using her knowledge and skills to bless the bloodstained earth and free the souls.

That was what she did before leaving with what she could salvage.

From there, the young woman moves on with the spirit’s words on her mind and a new mission: Tend to others in need, embrace healing, and use her abilities to banish evil with the same methods as her ancestors held close to them. She is blessed to be a holy agent and healer, cursed to live on land that is not her own, which affects the strength of her gift and cursed to have little acceptance for she carries marks of hellish fire. But despite these misfortunes, they did not keep her down. She still lives with kindness and bring healing energy.

She rose from the ashes of devastation and heartbreak, just like a phoenix.

Since you like my alt-Marauders (WHICH IM SO HAPPY FOR) how about challenge for headcanons of them interacting with the Smashers, as allies or foes or just a chance encounter? No need to, I just thought it might be something you'd have fun with!

@thecorteztwins k I'm suddenly in a big writing mood so!! FINALLY getting around to this I'm so sorry sksksk

For anyone who doesn't know: Thecorteztwins has an amazing au where she's collected Haven (thicc angel lady who was possessed by a demon disguised as a baby), Claudine (Miss Sinister),Madelyne (clone of Jean Grey), Pyro, Sebastian Shaw, Shinobi Shaw and sometimes Alice (a clone being tested by Claudine)!

I feel like the first few days are really testy. Everyone's got some bone to pick, the usual. But the biggest thing? The name. A brief encounter with paparazzi ends with their name and the reactions go from Pyro and Claudine scoffing at how silly it sounds and what a rip off it is (Pyro being a writer?? U KNOW he wouldn't stand for Alt Marauders) to Shaw sighing about the fact that he's been stuck on a team with a cliche super nickname.

Then there's personal names because once again, Pryo and Shinobi both agree that everyone needs a name to reapply make them unique! Hardly anyone goes for it, ranging from Haven's soft "no thank you" to Shaw punting Pyro into a wall. Madelyne is slightly soft for Pyro's RPG themed alias ideas for her and less than impressed for Shinobi's idea of "Mad Milf".

Alice....I'm definitely thinking she gets nicknamed "White Rabbit" or "Wonderland" because; 1) no one can leave her out of getting a name. 2) Pyro 100% would give a cheesy media related name and 3) I like the very small connections of white rabbit to the white and red queens in Alice in Wonderland (and 4) rabbits always get experimented on :).

Gamma Gals having amazing duos with the ladies of the Marauders? Absolutely!!

Jen and Haven, being an amazing duo and I feel like they'd be the two who would have that issue where they're the only ones who can save the day and end up learning a lot from each other? Haven is probably thanking her stars that she finally gets to meet a hero who believes in her kindness just as much as she does (S H A W).

Just....Haven being able to meet an even bigger woman and trading stories and being GalPals(TM). Its a really interesting concept to me that Haven is someone who was deliberately used to destroy and Jen is someone who's entire identity is formed around smashing and destruction. It's probably rather cathartic to be working with someone who purely doesn't want to resort to violence immediately and who has been used (Haven by her demon and Jen by different people).

But also learning something from each other? Haven being able to see that sometimes you do need to fight for what you love and Haven proves to Jen that even after all this time, it isn't the muscle or power that can save everything, it's her and her drive and will alone. Catch Red and Shaw scoffing about it.

Speaking of, those two could either REALLY clash or really get along, no imbetweens. Have we found another old man for Shaw to wrestle with, Roman style??? (Ngl that would be hot in a sick way)

Skaar and Shinobi? Both long haired, beautiful, sons of big figures, grew up in abusive environments,,,,its a duo. Just put Shinobi into a mini team with Skaar and Daken and we have the "Black haired brood squad"

Rick and Pyro working together to have a joint production??? FIrebomb productions baby!! My podcast ideas? Absolutely would happen when you combine these two and its hell. Aka; Rick and Pyro gossip on their podcast and give advice to starting heroes as immortals and smack talk. But also outside of that I imagine they can get along a lot in the "had a hard time accepting stuff" and "we were heroes who often did a lot for others and got disregarded and hurt for it".

Pyro: Hey if I set you on fire can you become a flaming bowling ball

Rick: well let's fine out!!

Red and Shaw....there's a lot there. Both are old men who have been pressed on in their lives and affected by masculine presences in their lives...both are regarded as awful shitbags but they're both MUCH more complex and driven by a need for power and stability...lots of thoughts here.

Shaw and Red are one team you do NOT wanna mess with because two old men who are perfectly willing to do what's needed? Red can respect a man willing to get his hands dirty with clear means and Shaw can probably like a guy who has the drive to do what he believes is the better good. Also big hulk man who can give you endless power.

But also differences in them because Shaw abused and continues to abuse Shinobi while Red neglected and most likely emotionally abused Betty but it seemingly trying to make a difference in it now that she's come back? I feel like these two probably have a SUPER in depth conversation when forced to or alone and then never speak about it again.

Spending of Betty! Her and Madelyne?? What a DUO they're litreally a great mix because Maddie is a clone of Jean, Betty was assumed to be a clone at first and often has to suffer being the "domintrix" she hulk. Both have serious issues with their mental health and identities as well as dealing with their lives being ruled or devoted to men who ruin them. Both want freedom and have such passion! I just....so much to say about these two and the similarities. They're both red.

But yeah Phoenix and Harpy?? Skksks Maddie voice: I'm FIRE HARPY nOW

Am I still yelling for her hero name to be Griffin because of how mystical they are and being a bird and lion??? Yeah.

Also sad thoughts but,,,gals talking about their lost kids (Maddie with Nate and Betty suffered a miscarriage induced from stress), the stress of their lovers and who they've lost to (Jean, Emma, Caiera, Jarella,,,) and being manipulated by men for their power (Maddie by Sinister into Goblyn queen and Betty by Leader into Red She-hulk, Harpy, both died).

Anyway point is I can fully see them two just CLICKING or fighting a lot at first until someone points out just how similar they are. Then? Maddie and Betty out here being the brand new Thelma and Louise. Red and Black styles, willing to use force but protect the innocent, both take Alice and this cute kid that Betty absolutely mother henned in her run and,,,two moms and their talented daughters pls step out the way sir.

Tbh I don't think I have much for Samuel apart form him having a small crush on Claudine (and like,,,,not in That Sense, but Samuel does have a big history of falling for smart women or just...OP women). And then a series of gags where Haven wants to know him because he's like Shaw but also incredibly different in thinking and everytime she walks into the room,,,,Samuel is doing some horrific experiment and she just NOPES OUT. Shaw wants to make use of this but it goes horribly wrong oh God why did he try.

Lyra! I just....feel like there could be a lot for her and Claudine and Alice. Lyra was genetically engineered to be used in a war and was bullied relentlessly for being "half man" which...is rather transphobic and sexist but that's her storyline and it's too deeply embedded for me to headcanon over it so...sighs.

But yeah!!! Lyra taking Alice and giving her a night of being able to just....be whoever that night, not being pressured to have an identity of the sorts from anyone and just being able to fight people with a giant green woman. Probably has a lot of deep talks later that night with Lyra, sitting over a building and eating ice cream because it was one of the first things Bruce shared with her and a first realisation that Lyra could be more than someone's daughter.

100% would picture this with Carmilla (Lyra's sister and...also messy kinda clone) or Laura Kinney hopping along and!! Clone weapon woman team!! I could GET INTO this!!! Just...pls marvel give me a team of women overcoming abuse and forming identities among each other and cool women,,,,

But also Lyra admittedly would respect Claudine for her skills and her...tenacity? Yeah, that. She has strength and guts and Lyra probably actually tells her that she'd rather get experimented on by Miss Sinister than some pig of a man and Claudine just "thhhanks?"

Hulk,,,,funny enough I don't think I have many ideas for him yet? Probably gets into a fair few fights with Shaw and Haven over different stuff, Maddie has a bome to pick for Betty,,,I am,,,blank.

I feel like a lot of things for him would be Haven trying to break through into him, maybe each of the Marauders dealing with different parts of the system? I can imagine Shinobi and Pyro don't have a high opinion of the oversized dad until Bruce turns super ashen pale and immediately Joe starts yelling for some whisky and GIRLS....and a fella or two for matchstick and ghost baby here.

Maddie thinking that he's another Scott and then finding out that Hulk's thing is more complicated than Scott simply looking for Jean again. Also Maddie demands that she will forcefully adopt Hulk's kids and these two bonding over abusive dads???

But uh,,,that's about it!! Hope you liked it!!! I probably could easily delve into more thoughts if there's anything specific for me to set my mind on.

Everyone knows their stories, and everyone knows their endings. We’ve heard of their school days and their desires to fight. We’ve heard of their struggles and demise — but what about the in-between? Sure, it wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns, but they had lives, love, happiness, families … moments of peace in a world feeling the flames of war.

The year is 1980. The Marauders have officially left the hallowed halls of Hogwarts behind. Albus Dumbledore formed the Order Of The Phoenix in a rush of self-preservation a few years ago. Allies who stand united against Voldemort’s reign flock towards whatever safety they can muster in these trying times.

There is no doubt that we are in a war, even those vehement neigh-sayers cannot deny the truth that is right in front of their faces. Instead of feeling sympathy for either side, there is only a growing sense of panic and confusion. All around, witches and wizards are taking sides, fighting for what they believe is right and just. Rifts are growing between friends and family members, cracks are showing in a society that seems to be disintegrating right before our eyes. Most people have chosen a side but a few people refuse. Fear has crept in, not only for themselves but for their loved ones.

The darkness is building, ever higher, and nobody is safe. Now is the time to take a stand. What kind of world would you like to leave behind? How will history depict you?

Mirror Effect

part 1

~basically another adventure with Klaus, Diego, and Five. (Not accurate to how season one ended)

"Diego calm down, man"

The parking ticket clutched in Diego's hand suffered the blunt of the assassin's wrath, though a weekend in New York with his brothers did nothing to call it a vacation. "No I won't calm down. It's a goddamn city and there's no parking anywhere, but a $200 fine for blocking a fire hydrant? Un-fucking-believable".

Five rolled his eyes and Klaus tried to gently pry the pink slip from his hands.

"I believe we have better things to do than worry about a little traffic offense, say perhaps, finding a serial killer?" Five remarked. The Big Apple had recently seen a series of brutal murders, ranging from hobos in Central Park with their intestines strewn about to affluent women with slashes across their throats. The NYPD was met by dead end after dead end, with no DNA, security footage, or murder weapon found. The ferocity of these killings finally brought the Commissioner to contact the Umbrella Academy to find the killer before a full on panic engulfed the city.

"C'mon guys, we've spent all day and yesterday running around the city, and not even the fun spots. Take a break, maybe go to a club- i heard New York has some of the biggest raves" Klaus gave a mischievous smile.

"I might have to agree with Death Note over here" Diego said, and all but sighed "I need a drink right about now."

HI SIDE NOTE- THEY'RE ALL LIKE 20-ISH IDK BUT FIVE IS A CONSENSUAL ADULT BECAUSE PERVERSION IS NOT ALLOWED HERE.

*early in the morning, or late at night-however you would describe 3 a.m. The three brothers stumble down an empty street lined with parked cars. It's empty save for a few other drunks and a homeless woman*

"Best- night- ever" Five hiccuped, swaying on his feet.

Diego let out a laugh, seemingly holding conversations in his head, or thinking of the girls that crowded the club they had just left.

"You both are lightweights" Klaus was tipsy, but he preferred to stay away from his past vices. Sobriety was tough, but also his new high was staying in control of his powers- powers he had just truly discovered. He looked down the street and squinted. "Hey um, did i accidentally take something or do i see a little girl that looks like she just crawled from a well?"

"Hey... I see her too- HEY ARE YOU OKAY?" Diego shouted down the now abandoned street. The girl's soaked hair covered her face and she wore a wrecked royal blue prom dress. "Looks like someone isn't having a fun night"

Just at this time, she charged the trio, her bare feet making a slapping sound at each step. Her shoulders didn't bounce with her step though, and she moved faster than an average person, inhumanly.

Five stood up straight, seeming to crawl out of his drunken stupor. "That's creepy as hell". Diego raised a blade to take the girl down, but then she dissipated into nothingness, leaving behind wet footprints.

Behind the group was a rich laugh, followed by another humorous howl, and all overlapped by snorting. "Dude that's so fucking e v i l- i love it"

The three brothers whipped around to a group of girls, all around their age. The one of the left had red hair, though the street lights made it look more orange, and she was doubled over in laughter. The other two girls both had brown hair, one with a straight style and the other with loose curls, and they were both supporting each other as they howled at the brothers' confusion.

"Who the hell are you?" Diego barked.

The red head was the first to stop laughing and moved in front of the other two. "Good question, but here's a better one: what brings half of the Umbrella Academy to New York City?" She smirked at them, eyeing each of them, and her gaze hovered over Klaus.

The curly haired girl moved next to her and nudged her side "where's the rest of them?". The one with straight hair moved closer than the other two, "Bro wait you're Diego right? You're like really hot" she said, bluntly.

"Thanks? Wait who the hell was the girl from the well?"

Curls spoke up, "oh thats just Stephanie, she's a figment of my imagination."

"Step- what? Who the fuck are you?" Five moved closer to the group, preparing for a fight.

"Oh calm down. I'm Kayla- friends call me Angel" the red head said, winking at Klaus. "Mind-Games over here is Christina, otherwise referred to as Dahlia, and Diego's admirer is Emma, we call her Phoenix."

Klaus looked at each girl "Those sound like superheroes names. Wait, do you guys have powers?"

Emma nodded, "Hell yeah". Just at this moment, her body ignited into an inferno of flames. Seeing this as a queue, Kayla squared her shoulders, and in an instant a pair of huge, magnificent, white wings sprouted from her back. She smiled and gestured towards Christina, who shied away a bit.

"C'mon Chris, you can do it" Kayla said, in a voice one would reserve for a puppy.

Christina slapped her arm, glanced up at Five, and then the street seemed to morph. The air turned into a kaleidoscope, the world looked as if it were a buffering RPG game, with strange graphics. Then in a blink, it returned to the empty street.

The boys began to speak at once.

"How are there more supers?" Five sputtered.

"What the hell are you guys?" Diego seemed as if he wanted more and also he wanted to run.

"Which one of you are single?" Klaus blurted.

The girls then all spoke over each other.

Christina responded to Five "Well there were other magic births the same day as you guys".

Emma giggled out "I wish i knew what the fuck i am".

And finally Kayla responded with as much of a lack of grace as Klaus had introduced himself with "I'd be down to hit it."

Diego then seemed to put an idea together. "Wait, the murders... Do you know about the murders?"

The joking mannerism of the girls ceased. Emma and Christina glanced at Kayla. She gave a deep sigh.

"yeah, an old... friend.. of mine. Name's Max, but he goes by Razor. We've been trying to track him down. Got a little distracted when we realized the Commissioner had lost faith in us and hired some of super missionaries."

Five started in on this "A friend? What's keeping you from finding him if you're such friends?"

Emma took offense to this "Don't you think we've been trying?" She took a step towards them, and Christina put an arm up to her.

"He does not want to be found."

"I think the contrary." A deep voice flooded the street. Kayla's eyes widened and all six heads looked up towards the moon hanging low above a brownstone residence. On the roof crouched a guy, with a head piled with curly brown hair. Despite being on top of a building, it was easy to see he was a big dude, all muscles and a hatred behind his eyes, but his focus was on Kayla. "Hey Bitch" and he lunged, landing two feet from her. He raised one giant hand, and from his olive-skinned hands his trimmed nails decayed and grew into long, jagged claws.

"Ohh... Razor... I get it now" Klaus and Diego inched closer, expecting his arm to slash down at her at any moment.

Kayla's eyes narrowed, and her lips curled up. She was taunting him. "What? Poor baby can't take a break-up? Needs to go on a murdering spree to get my attention?"

From the brothers' view, Max's back muscles tightened and he radiated anger. "You little whore, I'm gonna slit your fucking throat" he growled, and then his arm came crashing down.

But instead of cutting through her face, his arm was stopped by a pissed off time traveller. "Bad move buddy."

Max didn't like this, and his knee connected with Five's stomach, sending him back a few feet.

All hell broke loose at this time, with Diego sending two knives into his back, and Klaus diving to move Kayla out of the way. Christina flew at Max, producing sharp crystals in each hand, throwing them into his thigh. Emma ignited and surrounded the group in a ring of fire, restricting their play-area. Razor roared, one that actually shattered windows of the surrounding homes, and ripped the crystals from his leg. He then threw these crystals, aiming for Kayla, but was intercepted by another body. Five had popped from his grounded location to in front of Kayla, who was standing rather too still for a situation like this. Five fell to the ground, writhing in pain as the projectiles found a home in his left shoulder. Christina's eyes widened, and she turned to Max. She then raised her arm and twisted her wrist. Max looked at her, and then felt the ground beneath him rumble. He winked at her, and then leapt from the spot, landing on the roof he had descended from, then ran into the night.

"Five!" Klaus ran to his brother.

Christina kneeled next to them "Don't pull them from his shoulder or you may cause more-" but Klaus didn't hear her and pulled the crystals from his shoulder.

"Ew thats gross" Emma looked away from the scene, towards Diego, who was looking at the roof tops.

"The bastard took my knives..."

Kayla then seemed to snap out of a trance. "We need to get him back to the house."

"Kayla, he's bleeding real bad, he's not going to make the trip back." Said Christina.

"Dumbass, I have wings."

"And I'm the one with medical training!" Christina seemed increasingly worried. "You can't fly both of us back to the house, no offense."

Emma turned back to the group that was hovering over Five. "You both are drinking way too much dumb bitch juice."

Everyone looked at her, questioning what the fuck she had just said.

Emma smirked, "Christina, you can change the environment..."

Christina wasn't following, "Yeah and?"

Emma then held the bridge of her nose, looking down, "Change the environment then."

"To what?"

Maybe she really had been chugging dumb bitch juice.

"To the house."

"Oh shit."

Christina rose up, and looked down at Klaus, "put pressure on the wound."

She then walked over to Kayla, who was enjoying this all too much.

"Get ready hoe"

Christina then relaxed her shoulders and focused on a space in the middle of the street. Then the air began to shimmer, like how heat radiates off of pavement on an August afternoon. Then, shapes began to form, then colors, until there seemed to be a shifting hole in the middle of the road.

"All aboard the magical mystery tour. Next stop: the other side of the Hudson."

At this phrase, despite his slight delirium from blood loss, Five raised his head.

"You like the Beatles??" And then he promptly passed out.
