I got into an argument with someone over this on one of my Punkflower post's and decided to just ignore it but then i was scrolling through one of my fave Spiderverse artist's blog's and saw the same happen to them on their Punkbyte fanart and got So Fucking Mad so i made this.He is NOT grown,he's just traumatized and is mature for his age as a result and you guys are super gross and weird for insisting he's not a kid because of it,ESPECIALLY since he's black.KEEP MY SON'S NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTHS‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

Okay so i'm thinking about punkness in Atsv and i'm gonna be so real,i can't help but believe they faked out with making Gwen punk like they did Hobie-By which i mean they just gave her the aesthetic and interests but not the mentality and certain actions too.Like yes,she's got the side shave that's partially dyed an unnatural color and eyebrow piercing,the swag costume,the civillian outfits,the being a drummer in a rock band,the snark,the respectfully cheeky flirty attitude to her crushes,the tragic backstoryTM,the rebellion,all that's great and i love her so much for it!!!But at the same time,i wish they'd gone full force with it,again,like they did Hobie,especially because they're literally best friends who're heavily implied to have blooming romantic feelings for eachother and act like a couple already,including living together????I know the last bit is due to George kicking her out but A)that makes Gwen x Hobie even more of a punk x punk love story and B)should've realistically given her motivation to take part in activism like charity events and protests and to HATE COPS.That's legit the whole reason her dad's abusive,that he prioritizes the force over her but she was forced to forgive him instead of giving trans kids an incredibly important lesson that you're under no obligation to love your parents if they treat you badly because that's not what a REAL parent does

For fuck's sake,Peter B was more belivable as her dad in Itsv than George was in Atsv and looking back on it this was probably an accident but notice how not ONCE does Gwen bring up her home life!!Hm,wonder why that is considering what happens only a few months later!It feels ooc for Gwen too because in the comics,she was brutal as SHIT and it was GOOD.She was an anti-hero!!She could even qualify as a Red Hood equivalent more than B*cky B*rnes does!And i get it,they had to make her more kid friendly for a pg audience but they deadass had Hobie use the word 'fascists' onscreen and all but outright saying he killed his canon event cop via the blue laces + 'Yeah,what of it?' combo so they didn't need to take pretty much ALL her edge away other than the death subplot!She dosen't even need to kill,i would've been fine with scenes of her being a bully beater in those flashbacks and peeks into Earth 65 and some offhanded references of her and Hobie doing activism together!

Plus her and Margo not even being friends?????Complete horseshit,bonds between black girls and trans girls are basically inherent and i'm speaking from experience and Margo also deserved as much screentime as Hobs and Pav!And Hobie would NOT fucking date someone without radicalizing them,that's not my son!!!!!I finally get a canon pastel punk trans femme in a franchise i was already into only for her writers not to put their whole pussy into it to make her palpable and quirky for whites instead.Can't have shit in the multiverse

To me Hobie being a mature teenager instead of an adult is in the same sitch as Gwen being trans instead of a trans ally.Often you see people say Hobie is an adult because that's what the Spiderverse crew originally planned like how you see people also often saying Gwen was originally cis so she still is but it makes a lot more sense both in the story and from an irl context for them to be a kid who was just forced to grow up too fast and a teen trans girl

The argument that Hobie 'acts nothing like a teenager' is literally a lie based off nothing and i know this because i've befriended a lot of black teens through the fandoms i'm in and some of us have gotten so close that we consider eachother family and the ones who're traumatized,be it by abusive parents or something else,have the exact same personality as him and he even reminds me of myself when i was in high school if i'd been more outgoing.Because that's just the thing-Hobie isn't supposed to be a NORMAL teenager,he's supposed to be a black traumatized one because that's who he's rep for,just like how Gwen is supposed to be rep for TRANS teen girls instead of cis ones so that's why she dosen't act or look like a cis girl either

The reason Hobie does stuff like extreme rebellion and direct action and even underaged drinking(see the pub line)and takes the parent friend role in the Spiderband is that he had his childhood almost entierly taken away from him but still has traits of a teen like getting along best with people his age and his sense of humor is that at the end of the day,he's still a child mentally and physically.The reason Gwen has a trans flag with 'protect trans kids' on it in her room and her dad has a trans flag patch on his jacket and the crew adjusted her design to give her stronger features and had her say 'People only know half of who i am' is that they wanted to take her accidental trans coding from her previous in incarnations and make it canon for presentation

That's one of the biggest goal's of Spiderverse:Representation.They choose to make Miles the protag because he's afrolatino and took the racist writings from his comics and fixed it by making it accurate to us irl,they changed Pavitr's costume to perfectly reflect his indian heritage,they wrote Rio as exactly like irl afrolatina moms and made Jessica black and Margo a member of the Spiderband to show black women onscreen.Obviously there's flaws in the writing like what they did to Peni(Like making her go from Nge-inspired to moefiying her)and i'll never not critique them but are Hobie being just an adult and Earth 65 Peter being the trans one really the better options and also the ones that makes the most sense?Are they really?

Saying kid characters of color can't be kids because 'They don't really act that age' is actual rethoric used to adultify irl traumatized younger poc as an excuse to make emotionally abusing or even sexualizing them look not bad.In addition to the racial aspects,this also plays into society's idea that kids can't be people because 'they're too young to comprehend feelings and thoughts' and it provides a safe haven for REAL child abusers both online and in person and it really shows with how often minors in fandom are cyberbullied by adults for speaking up for themselves even outside of this context
