i find remadora so weird for many reasons. but i do think their dynamic could potentially be interesting if it was written in a very different way. i think tonks is very similar to marlene and sirius and obviously sirius and tonks are related, and i think that could work well with the idea of them bonding. like getting close after sirius' death because tonks reminds remus of sirius and she's like getting to live the years sirius missed which could be comforting for him to see, and tonks is getting to know a family member she never really got to spend much time with through remus. i think a platonic friendship would work well between them at this time. remus might enjoy being friends with people who are around the age that his friends died- like getting to see other people in the war live longer being quite bittersweet for him. and tonks clearly gets along with older people (like her relationship with moody). i very much support them bonding and forming a friendship. do not support the weird relationship.

Also to add to the last question do you think there is already an insecurity there at least in lupin when it comes to cheating? Like would his already present insecurities manifest in a way that makes him have trust issues around this topic?

Okay, in response to Remadora cheating: is there an insecurity with Lupin?

Yes and no. I think it depends on the stage of their relationship for whether Remus would be insecure about Tonks 'cheating.'

As I stated previously, I don't think Remadora would ever cheat on each other if they're in a committed relationship.

Pre-relationship, Lupin would definitely be jealous and insecure about himself with her. He's in his late 30s, unhealthy, and a social pariah. There are so many other people Tonks could be with, besides him. I think Lupin would be intimidated by the possibilities, and that's one of the reasons he doesn't go after her.

Early relationship and/or fighting for a relationship, Remus would actively try to push her away by telling her she has better options. Tonks's stubbornness would help his insecurities in one way because he would see that she wants him and only him.

Established relationship: Lupin might be jealous here and there of anyone trying to flirt with Tonks. He might even have the stray thought that she could still do better. But because of Tonks's loyalty and intensity, I think he'd be pretty secure in his relationship. It would only be in a separation scenario that things would fall apart, but as I also wrote in the other ask for my fic Cariad, neither Lupin nor Tonks is going to give up easily once they have each other.

Once Lupin is with his family, he's not letting them go unless Tonks wants him out. Tonks isn't letting him go, either, unless he does something so spectacularly awful that she feels she has to. In Cariad, it's miscommunication that drives them apart for a while, not other people. Their dysfunction is based on an inability to openly communicate, rather than insecurities about the other person.

So writing these Remadora ficlets has me thinking a lot about my headcanons for them, and there's one big one that I believe that while it is strictly canon based off the original seven books does veer away from the author's writings on Pottermore.

I think that there was a time during OOTP, post Christmas but before the Ministry, where Remus and Tonks were in a relationship. A couple of months where Remus gave in and let himself be happy.

At this time he had a stable home, most likely easy and regular access to the Wolfsbane Potion. He had a community, he had one of his best friends back and here was this bright, witty, gorgeous witch who was interested in him.

It would have been easy for him during this time to start to think that maybe life didn't need to be so difficult, that he might have a chance to actually let himself be happy. But that all came to a sudden end with Sirius' death. Another person close to him was gone and suddenly he was without a home. He started to spiral into self-destruction and that included pushing Tonks away.

On Tonks' side, I don't find it believable that she would be so depressed that she lost her metamorphagus abilities over someone she'd never had a relationship with. According to Pottermore, she very strongly implied to Remus that she liked him, and that was enough for him to push her away, which in turn led to her depression.

I do think that her depression is exacerbated by her survivors guilt over Sirius' death, but I also think that's linked to Remus' self-destruction. If she had stopped Bellatrix and Sirius had survived, Remus would never have pushed her away. But if we go by Pottermore, Remus was pushing her away before the ministry, so whether she stopped Bellatrix or not, it wouldn't have had any effect on the outcome of her relationship with Remus.

The final reason I think they had a short lived relationship in OOTP is because of how quickly they got married. Dumbledore died on June 30th, and Tonks and Remus are already married when they collect Harry before his birthday. Even for wartime, that is an extremely short time between the start of a new relationship and getting married, especially without some kind of relationship to build on.

I was doing some reflecting and I’m noticing a lot of things in the Harry Potter fandom and one of them is the fact that we lack the proper communication we need to retain peace within the community as a whole.

This whole fandom is divided…Snape stans vs Marauders stans and Remadora vs Wolfstar and Romione vs Dramione…etc. etc. and each side tries to justify why their side is better or “right” (most of the points I make are geared towards the two groups I mostly see and interact with but I’m sure it could be used for the others as well)

This ofc causes conflict between people. This is where “evidence” starts being presented. When presenting evidence, one side always seems to forget certain things:

The movies aren’t canon

If JKR said it, then it’s canon…it’s her universe whether we like her or not

HCs are just that…headcaons

Fanfics aren’t canon

And when these things are brought up, there’s always an excuse or the arguments start shifting off topic. When debating with someone about something, make sure it’s canon. Another thing that happens is that people start stating things that are IMPLIED and while I personally believe that there’s nothing wrong with that, if you state that something is “implied” but in canon it’s debunked or canonically impossible/inaccurate, then there’s no leg to stand on when it comes to using it in a debate.

Another thing I noticed wrong with communication is pride. People don’t like to admit they’re wrong when the opposing side makes a valid argument or debunks something they said, but the minute your own side speaks up and admits the same thing the other side said, then it’s “yea I can see that” and “yea you’re probably right” and “ok yea that makes sense”. This is another reason why what could be friendly debates always turns into arguments, because it’s frustrating when you’re giving actual facts and the other person is saying it’s not true or start using HCs solely because it doesn’t fit their narratives or they have too much pride to admit they were wrong about this specific thing.

The next thing is moral righteousness and disrespect. This is one of the most disrespectful fandoms Ive been in…body shaming, victim blaming, harassment, death threats, assault minimizing, trauma reduction, comparing trauma, misogyny/sexism, offensive remarks…etc. etc. It’s gotta stop.

Disliking a character is fine but making fun of their physical traits is gross, especially considering people with those same physical traits are going to see your remark and possibly gain a new insecurity if it wasn’t one already…stop. You cannot hate a character for being a bully when you do the same thing.

Stop victim blaming…”well this character shouldn’t have done that” and “well maybe if they did this then that wouldn’t have happened” do these things sound familiar to you? That’s because they’re used in real life against victims of many things…stop. You can’t pretend to care about victims of any kind when you use arguments made specifically to be used against them.

Stop harassing people who have different opinions than you…if you wanna hop in an inbox and ask their opinions on something or why they like what they like then go for it, but to go as far as to go on someone else’s post or blog and start being disrespectful is as pathetic as it can get…the only reason you do it is because it makes you feel good because you think you’re better than whoever has an opposing opinion than you…you’re not…in fact that makes you lesser of a good person. Another thing is, when the person you’re harassing gets fed up and cusses you tf out, don’t play victim…You cannot hate a character for being a bully when you do the same thing. On this topic, when it comes to incorrectly tagged posts, I want us to start approaching it differently…instead of jumping into a fight, why don’t we ask questions…questions without being rude and sarcastic preferably…but I still don’t encourage incorrect tagging

Death threats…same thing…you pile of shit. We are talking about a fictional universe…go take a damn nap…You cannot hate a character for being a bully when you do the same thing.

Stop minimizing or praising assault. Idc if you hate the victim, idc if you love the character that committed it…stop. I shouldn’t have to explain why that’s bullshit but then again I shouldn’t have to explain a lot of the things I’m explaining.

Stop reducing a characters trauma to mere inconvenience or as an excuse for the character to act shitty…now with that being said…trauma can cause a person to act out in many different ways, especially a person who never got the help they needed…so using trauma to EXPLAIN a person’s behavior is different from using it to EXCUSE a person’s behavior…learn the difference. Just because you don’t like a character doesn’t mean you have to ignore or erase things they’ve been through.

Comparing…stop comparing trauma…that’s so dumb, not everyone responds to trauma the same way, so stop with the “well this character also went through that and they didn’t turn out like this other character” stfu…respectfully.

Misogyny/Sexism…bro…I’m looking at a very specific part of the fandom, I’m sure you know who you are..it’s not all of you..but it’s enough to be disturbing. You can hc a character to be gay without saying they’re physically repulsed by a woman’s anatomy. You can ship two male characters without shitting on the woman one of them is with in canon, especially given that she did nothing wrong, and by shitting on, I specifically mean calling them misogynistic names and stuff…calm down pls

Last but not least: offensive remarks…STOP COMPARING DEs TO N@ZIS…STOP COMPARING MUDBLOOD TO REAL LIFE SLURS….stop. This fandom has been asked to stop doing these things for years and you still do it. I don’t want to hear the excuse “well Rowling said DEs were“ idc…when a group collectively says “hey stop doing this, we find it offensive” there is no ifs, buts, or whats…you stop doing it…and while I’m on this topic I would like to say for the millionth time: Mudblood is not racist..it has nothing to do with race…it’s an attack on parentage and status…which is classism.

And I know people are going to (somehow) take this post negatively, and all I have to say about that is a hit dog is gonna holler…but I actually think if we take a minute to actually think about these things, this fandom would be a lot more pleasurable to be in. You don’t have to stop hating whatever characters you hate, but just because I like characters you don’t, doesn’t mean we have to be enemies.

Random small HCS for remadora?

I’ve probably mentioned some before but these are based on my writings of them. And they’re hcs so if you don’t like it. It’s okay. They’re hcs. Okay.

- Remus doesn’t sleep much but Dora sleeps like the dead, so he’s always awake before her and will have a cup of coffee or tea waiting for her when she does rise.

- Remus loves 40s/50s music. It reminds him of his mum

- Dora is obsessed with his hair. Hands constantly in it

- they like to dance a lot, pottering around the kitchen when they’ve put Teddy to bed and just being absolute hopeless in love dorks. I do have a os of this on the way too js.

- they’re incredibly in tune with each other, they always know what the other is feeling and can practically communicate just by looking at each other

- Remus wears glasses sometimes to read and Dora absolutely melts into a puddle at the sight every. Single. Time.

- after the war Remus doesn’t let his scars affect him so much anymore, he had more important things to focus on. But on days where he does get self conscious Dora will make him feel extra loved, kissing every scar she can find and telling him how loved he is.

- Dora absolutely has some tattoos and Remus loves tracing his fingers over them when he’s anxious or when he can’t sleep at night

- Remus reads aloud to her a lot.

- when Dora was pregnant Remus was in ultimate protective husband mode immediately, making sure she rested and didn’t do hardly anything.

- Remus has never, and will never, ask Dora to morph a certain way. He loves her no matter how she chooses to present herself everyday and will get weak at the knees no matter what she looks like.

- Remus doesn’t say ‘I love you’ very often, he still worry’s that everyone he ever loved was lost in some way and his worst fear is losing Dora.

- so he tells her in a million other ways and she understand every one.

- and the classic one I’ve said before but have to mention it again: Remus fell in love first. He fell like a bag of fucking bricks, head over heels doesn’t even cut it.

Headcanon of the day:

Tonks’s hair changes color when she’s dreaming. Remus likes to watch this when he wakes up in the middle of the night, and he learned to tell when she’s having a nightmare because her hair will shift between red, black, and dark blue in a quick cycle. He knows to wake her up when this happens.

This is so sweet, Remus picks up on her habits and mannerisms pretty quickly during his pining era...

He absolutely loves watching her hair change color...., he can see very good at night and the first thing he saw upon opening his eyes is a colourful bundle of hair, its one of the things he missed the most while in the werewolf camp in HBP, he'd wake up in the middle of the night and sleepily reach for her and look for her colourful head in the darkness before realizing where he is

Why don’t you ship it?

Honestly, just because of the One Incident with snape – i think that speaks to a lack of respect that sirius had for remus's condition. i love sirius as much as the next person, but i don't think that sort of thing is particularly appealing to me, specifically - although i have read fic where they grow past that incident and grow into people who communicate and respect each other better! but, sirius and remus both thinking the other was the spy and all of that... idk, i just don't think a relationship would've been particularly healthy (subjective!) and i don't think sirius particularly respected or was as empathetic to remus's disability as he could've been. (now james on the other hand... but i digress)

2. What would have made you like it?

two things! firstly, No Snape Incident (as aforementioned) - secondly, if remadora hadn't been a thing. i don't like the idea that remus and sirius had a thing and remus then went on to be married to sirius's cousin - again, this is personal, but it's just not a dynamic and narrative i'm particularly interested in!

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

i think it's an interesting dynamic, and i've read some really well-written wolfstar fics. i can definitely see the appeal, and the potential for so many different tropes (angst, friends to enemies to friends to lovers, etc), but it's just not for me ♡

What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

i think my most recent Remadora one-shot the fiction of realness is some of my best work. 🤷‍♀️

What detail in [the fiction of realness] are you really proud of?

it's not really a detail, i guess, but the way the first and last vignettes in that fic mirror each other. i'm proud of it because it happened pretty organically - i didn't have any grand plan to bring things full-circle exactly, i was just feeling my way through the last couple of vignettes to demonstrate how far Lupin and Tonks had come by the end of their relationship (and how far they still had to go when they died) when i realized i was writing a second waking-up-in-the-morning scene. i think mornings are a really intimate and vulnerable time for a couple, so it's no surprise i ended up there again by accident, but once i realized it was happening i was able to shape the last vignette to reflect & invert the first one. the morning light, the sleep crust on each of their faces, the adversarial dialogue, Tonks's little catchphrase and the appearance of the imaginary figure are similar; the feelings and the healthiness of their communication and Lupin's relationship to the imaginary Tonks have evolved. also, the evasive presence of fetus-Teddy has supplanted the intrusive presence of imaginary Tonks. idk! i was happy that i had that instinct and was able to recognize and use it.

just wanted to drop off a note saying how much I appreciate you, the stats you create, and the metas you find/promote within fandom. you are a fandom MVP.

this was so thoughtfully and gracefully answered, i'm in awe. just wanted to say that you're not alone in observing that there has been a lull in fandom, and it's so absolutely valid and understandable that that then affects writing motivation -- particularly for a smaller and fandom-unpopular ship where it's already much more difficult to find your community while also protecting your joy. <3

(i will point out the elephant in the room: the fact that remadora shippers often have to make an exceptional effort to write, promote, and support other slash ships to "prove" they're not homophobic, they just happen to not be a fan of that one specific slash ship, is exhausting, I'm exhausted af on your behalf and while i will die on the Fandom Is Not Meaningful Activism hill sometimes I do wish exclusive shippers of the Big Fandom Slash Ships spent one tenth the amount of effort writing, reccing, and engaging with female character-centric het, femslash, gen, whatever, to "prove" that they don't Hate Female Characters.)

anyway love to see your support for @justleaveacommentfest (princess diaries!! pride & prejudice femslash!?! love a good historical ~they were just Really Good Gal Pals~ femslash! and vernon/dobby…!? omg do i… dare???) and @ladiesofhpfest was such a creative and well-thought-out idea, and so well run too. you have put + continue to put so much love and effort into it--coming up with all these inventive themes, the pre-fest fic recs, the BANNERS, the weekly roundups not to mention the reblogging--it's noticed! it's very appreciated!
