Angsty hc: after what happened in the underground, Yusa got constant nightmares of what happened during his battle, every little gory detail carved into his young mind , the memories being replayed unforgivably both day and night.

In a way, he blamed himself for what had happened, the thought of how he could’ve done something differently to could have prevented all of this in some way; if he had just warned his friends, stopped Hajime in time or stepped in front of the attack. But in the end, it was too late for anything and now they were gone.

Sometimes, Yusa couldn’t help but think ‘why was I the one left alive?’ Every night he asked himself that question and every night he was left without an answer to take away his consuming guilt that hung on his shoulders.

After he woke up from another nightmare drenched in a cold sweat, he got out of bed and went to the kitchen for a cold glass of water, only to find Take sitting in the room in the same state as the young boy. Take noticed Yusa enter the room and he looked up for a moment with the same unreadable expression as always before he looked back down silently.

After he got his water, Yusa sat down besides Take and even if there was no conversation between them, he found the silence more comforting. It was nice knowing that atleast Take was still here by his side and right now, that’s all the comfort he needed right now.

For a while, Yusa just stared into his glass blankly whilst the images of the nightmare, which was still fresh in his mind, flashed by. The grip on his cup tightened, the glass cracking slightly and Take glanced over to notice tears rolling down the boy’s cheeks, biting his lips to hold back his sobs.

“Does…does it ever get better?” Yusa asked quietly, quickly wiping away his tears and hiding his eyes behind his hand. “The pain. Will it ever just go…It just hurts so much, remembering them. Thinking about shio and Rikai and never…never seeing them again. I miss them. I miss them so much.”

Take wasn’t sure how he could help - he was this boy’s mentor and only friend left in his world. Truthfully, Yusa was too young for something as traumatic as this to happen to him, no matter how many battles or training he went through and it was clear now that he was left broken from all this. Take had went through the pain of witnessing the deaths of his comrades many times, but there was no real answer to how to deal with it. Even so, it was clear the boy needed support and so, he will be someone Yusa can rely on.

With some hesitation, Take wrapped an arm around Yusa’s quivering body and the boy leaned into Take’s chest, small whimpers escaping him as he continued to cry. Yusa couldn’t help but remember his friends faces, shio’s bright smile and cheerful mood and Rikai’s advice and guidance that always helped Yusa in life. He missed them so much but now they were gone, that single fact cruelly twisting the dagger of pain into his heart every time these memories returned.

“It doesn’t.” Take finally answered honestly and Yusa stilled, his grip around Take tightened. “It’s something you just have to learn to live with and the pain will never leave you. But, it will get easier, I promise you.”

“I just feel so alone.” Yusa murmured. “They’re all gone-”

“But you’re still here. That counts for something.” He pulled Yusa back with a firm tone. “You must live on for them because that’s what they would’ve wanted and I’ll be here to support you always.”

Yusa nodded, sniffling and his lowered eyes still filled with tears, the unbearable pain still clear across his face. The idea of moving on seemed too much - how could he do that, to simply live with this sickening guilt? It would be so easy if he could just forget it all, but that wasn’t an option. Was what Take said the only choice, the only path to follow?

“You will stay with me?” Yusa lifted his face a little, an unsure look in his eyes. Take nodded with a small smile and Yusa relaxed a little. “Then…maybe I can try then.”

Shio Headcanons

1. The first ever gift he ever received from someone was a weapon, even if he was a young boy. This was after they had passed the program. At first he was determined to prove himself to everyone, especially to Arima Kishou. For him his purpose was to be of use, even though he himself tried to find something he wanted for his life.

2. Shio always hid his emptiness through his sunny and playful nature. He thought of himself as a weapon, whose use was to be wielded for a purpose he never was quite sure of. He finds himself happy whenever there is a mission, determined to prove himself worthy as an investigator. It was through it that he fills his emptiness, it was through it that he finds his purpose.

3. He met Yusa and Rikai inside the investigator program. At first, they viewed him as a weirdo who always smile and laughed through everything and anything, and always chastised him for not taking things seriously. But as time passed, they saw through this when he tried to save another garden child from dying. Out of all of them, Shio was the one who cared the most and would do everything in his power to protect his comrades - even if it meant that he would have to take the most blows.

4. Shio had the highest extermination rate out of all the garden kids. After he had experienced a comrade’s death, he swore that he would protect the garden kids whom he viewed like his siblings.

5. Whenever they were out of missions, Shio would always ask for melon pan, his favorite food. It was the first gift outside of a weapon that Arima brought him, the first real thing he enjoyed outside of fighting.

6. Shio had always viewed Arima Kishou as the hope for the garden children. So he took the last mission he gave to them and kept it alive in his heart - Arima wanted them to protect the real hope of the world, the children. He also told them to look out for each other, and on the last time Shio held his hand, he promised Arima that he would do his best to protect the people who mattered to him, as well as the people Shio himself loved.

7. At first, he was confused why someone as strong and as smart as Arima chose Ken Kaneki. His first impression of him after he woke him up was of a loser, letting himself get hit by the manager of the coffee shop where they stayed when he could have easily avoided it. Stupid, right?

8. But as time passed, Shio himself saw why Kishou Arima chose him. It was on Take and Ken’s watch that he got to witness living the life outside CCG. During his free time, Ken would cook for them or bring them to the surface to get their favorite. And at one point when Shio himself was feeling lonely after being cooped up long inside the 24th ward, Ken brought him to the surface to eat melon pan and coffee with him and the other two. They discussed mundane things, as well as things Shio loved. He told Ken he wanted to go to the amusement park one day, and Ken told him he will take him there with Take and the others. That ignited a warmth in Shio that he never thought he would experience, because Ken gave him something to look forward to.

9. Yusa and Rikai viewed Shio as their mischievous little brother, who liked to play pranks. When he would get bored, he would write on Take’s face while he is taking a nap. He was the only one to do so and get away with it. More often that not, when he causes mayhem over the base, people would chase the three of them; especially the leader of the white suits, whom Shio loved to prank the most.

10. Shio always liked to spend time with Touka. He viewed the manager as a warm and interesting person, one who would always spend time to talk to him. Sometimes he would watch her as she read to the young ghoul kids, and it was during those times that he felt that the kids were lucky to have someone like her. “Shio, would you like to join us?” Touka asked one time she saw him. He was hesitant at first, but Touka smiled at him and eventually he joined them. He watched at how the kids smiled and laughed with the story, and he was happy that they are able to experience this, something that he himself did not. When they are done, Shio thanked the manager for the fun time, which she responded. “You can always call me onee-san, you know?” It was the first time he was allowed to called someone like that - and it felt nice.

11. Eventually, Shio warmed up to Hinami onee-chan and Ayato onii-chan as well. If Touka onee-chan was busy, it was always the both of them who played with the kids. At first he felt conscious, especially since he was an investigator - they must hate him, right? It was a typical boring day for him and he wanted to see how the kids were doing, only to find them spending time with both Black Rabbit and Yotsume. When the kids realized that Shio onii-chan came to play with them, their faces lightened up and they pulled him to where they were. Ayato and Hinami both gave him a warm smile and it dawned to him how different it was here - here people gave you warm smiles, here you are allowed to laugh freely and enjoy. Here, they didn’t see him as a weapon or a dove who murdered their kind, here he was Shio, a very bright, playful child. Sometimes, mischievous, most of the times, fun to be with.

12. When he was not with Yusa and Rikai, he would join the Aogiri kids who played hide and seek inside the base. One time he forced both of them to join, and it was so much fun that Shio never wanted the day to end - especially after he saw Yusa and Rikai laugh with them.

13. Take would always ask Shio to play shogi with him when he knows he is bored. Shio appreciated this, he appreciates Take a lot. When he is frustrated because he lost to Rikai or Yusa, it was always Take who gives him a pat in the back. Take will always tell him that losing doesn’t mean anything, especially if he will learn something. When Shio finally beat Yusa, he thought he saw Take smile at him.

14. When he found out that their base is under attack, Shio felt really heavy and bothered. He knew what they were up against and also knew they might not make it out alive. So he hugged Yusa and Rikai, and thanked Take. Yusa chastised him for being an emotional ball of energy and Rikai just smiled at him. He did not want to fight without them knowing he cared, even if only through those little actions. But he was determined to fight - because this time, he was fighting for something that he himself decided. This time, he will fight for something he wanted to protect. He will go down fighting and will always have Yusa, Take and Rikai’s back. That was his hope, he thought, to always be there for them. Whatever happens, he was glad to have been here.

I may or I may not put this into one big writing in the future, because I deleted my file. Sorry if it looks OOC, I love my boy a lot and I hope to do him justice in a story one day. I may or may not have removed some things in this list as well.

Headcanon of Zero Squad kids with Touka and Kaneki

I headcanon that Shio, Yusa and Rikai would sneak on Touka and Kaneki as they would be talking together somewhere alone.

When Kaneki kept his relationship a secret with touka, and had to meet up with her without anyone knowing at the first weeks.

It had began when shio woke up one evening because of his thirst for water. And as his way back from the kitchen , after drinking water. He passed by Touka manager’s room and he saw what he didnt expect to see, Haise and Manager are laying together, with The manager’s head laying Haise’s chest , his cheeks blushed and hided as fast he could.

He heard them talk faintly, and could recognise the words they are saying thankfully.

“Kaneki”

“Hm, touka-chan?”

“When all of this is over, lets live far from Tokyo”

“Oh? I thought you liked tokyo”

“I do, but... i want us to live somewhere quiet and calm, far from the CCG and whoever hates our kind”

Kaneki smiled, as he leaned in, and captured his lips within hers.

“I’d love to, we can open our own cafe” he said. As he brushed her bangs away from her face.

Shio by now has became a tomato, and started to walk slowly back to his cell he shares with Yusa-san and Rikai-san.

“GUYS! Wake up!! You wouldnt believe what i found out about!!” He whisper yelled.

“Later, shio. Im tired” Yusa said.

And by that, he was forced to sleep, although he was excited to tell them, and he did, by the next morning.

“hirako-san! Can you believe it!?” Shio slammed the table they were sitting around.

Hirako looked at them, poker-faced.

“I guess id predict it eventually, kaneki ken had showed his like toward the manager by his actions.” He said as he grabbed his chin.

“Im so Happy for Haise-san!” Shio screamed excitedly.

But less to his knowledge, Kaneki walked up to behind him.

“Happy for me? Why is that? Shio-kun?” He spoke.

“Oh, im happy for you and the-“ he was about to tell him that he saw them last night but was cutten off by Rikai putting his palm over his mouth.

“He is happy for you because you are the king” Rikai said.

“Oh? Haha, i guess being a king isnt fun like you guys think” kaneki smiled awkwardly.

“Yeah sure it is, eventually not all kings get what they want like in stories” Nishiki-san said as he walked toward them and winked at the kids.

Shio giggled. As kaneki ken was still dumbfounded.

After that, the trio and sometimes with Hirako-san, they follow Kaneki and Touka whenever they are alone.

Luckily when things starts getting heated up, hirako is always there to pull them and take them back.
