“ i love you. you don’t have to say anything, i just thought you should know. ” #try a couple other than Axel and Roxas challenge
Soriku it is! Now with added matchmaker Roxas.
---
Sora had spaced out, tuning out the stream of words and staring across the room at the back of Riku's head. A loud slurp to his left drew his gaze over, and he shook his head to clear the fog.
"I'm sorry, did you say something?" Sora flashed a grin, hand ruffling his hair into even more of a mess before going back to staring at Riku.
Roxas sighed, letting his feet drop back to the floor with loud thunks that made Riku look over.
Sora's heart gave a flutter when aqua eyes met his, when Riku smiled at him before turning back.
"I swear, you're impossible to talk to when you're making moony eyes at the brat." Roxas groaned.
"Riku's not a brat!"
"I see you're not denying the whole moony-eyed thing," Roxas snorted before taking another obnoxiously loud drink. "So, why not ask him out? Do the rest of us a favor."
"What?" Sora's head whipped over. "How would that be doing you guys a favor?"
"The rest of us wouldn't have to deal with you two making googly eyes at each other."
Sora was wondering if Roxas's eyes were going to roll out of his head. He glanced back at the silver-haired man, half sprawled across the couch, and swallowed hard. "I don't know. I don't think he likes me like that."
Roxas sputtered and then dropped his head to the table with a thud. "Ok. One, you're an idiot." Thud.
"Hey!"
"Two, you're blind." Thud.
"Rude!" Sora pressed a hand over his heart.
"You are!" Thud. "If you can't even see…" Roxas shook his head, hauling it back up with yet another eye roll. "Not worth it, Rox... Look. You obviously love Riku."
"With all my heart." Sora nodded solemnly.
"And he obviously loves you."
"Riku couldn't possibly—"
"And we are all so sick of all the pining. So for the love of my sanity, ask the man out." Roxas's hands tugged at his hair.
"I couldn't possibly… it's far too terrifying! No, it's best if—"
"You…" Roxas slapped a hand over Sora's mouth. "Mister traveled the world, fought thousands of heartless, did so much more that if I listed it, we'd be here all day… you're saying you haven't asked the twerp out because you're afraid?"
"Yes?" Sora squeaked out. "What if he doesn't feel the same?"
With another loud groan, Roxas raked his hands down his face. "I can't believe he was right. Remind me to give Axel five munny later."
"What?"
"Nevermind." Roxas waved a hand in the air. "Not important. Ok. We're going to make this easy. Rip the bandaid off." He sucked in a deep breath and turned away, bellowing across the room. "Oy, Riku. Get your emo hind end over here."
Sora swallowed hard, pressing a hand to the tornado of butterflies that were loose in his stomach. He'd expected Roxas to shout Sora's confession across the room, or just flat out tell the man when he walked over and stood between them, a hand coming to a rest on Sora's shoulder.
But no. Roxas smirked at him, taking a loud drink. "Ok, dork. Sora has something to say to you."
"Y-yeah," Sora mumbled, ears burning as he rubbed his sweaty palms on his pants. "You… you look really nice today."
"Oh my god!" Roxas smacked his head back to the table. "For the love of… just tell him!"
"Tell me what? Sora?"
All Sora knew was Riku's eyes. Smiling down at him. The hand on his shoulder felt like it was burning through his shirt. "I—" he cleared his throat. "I lo—" He couldn't maintain eye contact and stared down at his clenched fists resting on his thighs. "I love you."
"I—" Riku started, hand squeezing Sora's shoulder.
"Wait. You don’t have to say anything, I just thought you should know." The words tumbled from his lips, face burning, nails digging into his palms.
"Sora," Riku chuckled, squeezing his shoulder again.
"I'm sorry for throwing that at you." Now that he'd started, words flowed from his mouth. "But, I've loved you for a long time… and I understand if you don't feel the same."
"Sora…"
"And I hope this doesn't change things between us… or make it awkward."
"Sora, would you look at me?"
Aqua eyes sucked him in when he looked up, and before he knew it, Riku leaned down and kissed him.
"I'm so happy you finally told me." Riku beamed, hand coming up to rest on his cheek. "I love you too."
"I told you so!" Roxas's cackling could be heard four doors down as tears of mirth streaked down his smug face.

The Start of Fall: IDOLiSH7 Third BEAT! Ep 11 Review
The heck is going on? I was not expecting to pay such a huge price of emotions for the previous episode...
[Contains spoilers, but this time, pictures will be enough to make you understand what is going on...]
Check the masterlist- here
Tumblr media
(My goodness, not again...)
No. What is happening is not at all right.
In the initial part, we see how the three groups wrap up the show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Sayonara, these moments, HNNGHHH)
Not to mention, I got these two in one frame! That’s so rare!
Tumblr media
(My heart...)
And we also got to see MEZZO’’ blushing; Tamaki because of getting appreciated by Mitsuki, and Sogo as Yuki makes him realize his love for music.
Tumblr media
(ASDJKSLKLSLK Mitsuki!!!!)
Tumblr media
(...He is so cute. That’s it. THAT’S IT.)
We got a little bit of glimpse of Sogo’s past. How he used to observe his uncle playing music, and him listening. I am glad Yuki encourages him to compose music for IDOLiSH7.
Tumblr media
(That face AHHHHH!!!)
Anyways, there is a storm brewing out there. We come to know that Haruka was a trainee of Kujo and that to, a failed one. I think I can figure out now why he despises TRIGGER. But, too bad, I am still on TRIGGER’s side, hmph!
Darn it, my guess was right. Ryo is INDEED the one behind ZOOL.
Tumblr media
(Oh how fast I wanted to skip this, but I couldn’t. UGH.)
You know, very considerate of you to put IDOLiSH7 on the side and just choose by yourselves which team to destroy first. Even if Toma is good, I wasn’t expecting him to go along with these guys, seeing how kind he was to Riku. Sorry to say, but I could have punched them hard on the face if I had been there. The way they just count everything on votes based on which team to first receive the fall, that made me even more sure that I am going to hate this group till the season ends.
This stupid Ryo even went to Yaotome Sr., asking him to sell TRIGGER to him. Since Ryo mentioned Momo, a meeting is arranged. And Momo reveals Ryo’s true persona, which is going to first attack Ryu, since he was a member of newly formed Atheletic group of Momo. President Yaotome tallies that Momo’s new hangout group closely resembles to Chiba Salon, which was initially formed to raise voice against big-shot idols. From further discussion with Re:vale, Yaotome Sr. accepts the situation and tells that he is going to deal it his way.
Anyways, it seems that now TRIGGER is going to achieve the blow, which has already started from Ryu.
Look at that idiot production using a girl to achieve their plan. When Riku initially invites the girl from Tsukumo to join them, she already felt creepy and shady. Thank goodness Iori saved the moment.  Now, she clung around Ryu, and just rolled crocodile tears that she is stressed, and... bla bla bla.
Ryu offers to go with her to negotiate with the company, but Nagi pops in between and asks her to choose him instead. ( as he already solved that previous song scandal of IDOLiSH7, proving him a good one in that field.)
Tumblr media
(I couldn’t believe how a girl can be this cruel and sly. I ABSOLUTELY HATE HER.)
Well, you know what’s going to happen, now that the girl is shady. She pulls Ryu, calls her manager, and just hands over the phone to him. Darn, why is he so kind, the other end says that she is now off from Tsukumo and now in the hands of Yaotome productions. This was already planned, so as to make Ryu the cause of the matter.
Further, this girl even holds his hand to thank him, and just flees away from the scene.
Tumblr media
(I was sure this was going to turn into a misunderstanding, and IT DID turn into a trouble.)
This same picture is now in magazines, claiming that Ryu forced her to join them and they are madly in love. THE HECK?!
Also, we see a new character, who is an acquaintance of Nagi. And he pesters him to go to their dorms?!!
Tumblr media
(Yes, Nagi did, but I am sure he has a good reason.)
I want TRIGGER to stay strong and not to lose hope. But sadly, that’s not going to be the case in this reason. Although I am happy that IDOLiSH7 is in safe zone this time, it’s very heart-clenching to see TRIGGER being the prey of Tsukumo. We can’t do anything but wait for the next episode.
Tumblr media
See you soon~

001 - Kingdom Hearts
Favorite character: On the villain side: VEXEN IS BEST ORGANIZATION XIII MEMBER. Shoulda stayed evil, though. I like it when he complains and screams about everything and hates everyone. He's one of my favorite villains, just, like...in general. So fun to write. Also attached to Demyx, but I actually liked him more in III than II because it reminded me of my rawr lolspeek weeb days when I f/o'd him without knowing what f/o'ing was and then transitioned this to shipping VexDem like heck. On the hero side: MY GIRL KAIRI! But honorable mentions go to Sora, Riku, Aqua, Ven, Terra, Xion, Roxas, Lea, Ienzo, any Disney character I loved beforehand (this is way too fuckin many to list), Merlin (OKAY I WILL SINGLE HIM OUT), Yen Sid (I'LL SINGLE HIM OUT TOO), you know what let's also single out the Mickey+Donald+Goofy power trio...just...any KH hero who isn't part of the Yozora stuff or the KHUX stuff. ...Except I also LOVE Strelitzia, and she is the only KHUX-exclusive kiddo I care about but I care about her MANY. (Oh, and there's a least fave I have who's a "hero" but that's a debatable label). I would go on about why I love all of them but...that's too many characters to elaborate on
Least Favorite character: See, I think the real answer is Yozora, but the thing is I just tend to forget about him or not care (unless I'm doing a weird AU where he's Noctis' bratty Nobody, don't ask). He kinda represents the Shark Jump and I don't like watching that scene where he literally petrifies Sora for not being strong enough. But again, I can just kinda forget about him if he's not fed to me through a social-media unit. The one I LOVE TO HATE is Master Eraqus. The man actually triggered me back in the day. He is purity culture. He is the overbearing parent who will not accept you unless you are perfect. He is by and large the reason VAT didn't communicate with each other properly. He was the one who taught Aqua to think in absolutes. He lied to Ventus for years and then insisted to kill him was the only option, and then, when Terra tried to defend his brother figure/friend without knowing WHY Eraqus was doing such a thing, Eraqus didn't offer an explanation and instead switched targets to Terra citing that the problem was Terra's lack of OBEDIENCE. Eraqus is just very "my way or the highway" and uses his moral high horse to justify doing things that utterly lack compassion in any regard, which is something that GETS to me on a deep level, and let me tell you, I hated him for so long until I realized he was actually a super fuckin fun guy to imagine as a Bigger Bad in AUs that either have the KH protags teaming up or have villain protags needing a "greater good lawful evil" figure. And I just have found too many good memes about him cheating at chess and killing children. I have to laugh. Making fun of him is fun. He's a ridiculous character. That said, this recent trend of "erase everything bad he ever did and paint him as the ultimate hero of the saga" makes me raise eyebrows for SEVERAL reasons
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): VexDem, SoRiku, Kairi x Jaune Arc (RWBY), Aqua x Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy) x Bayonetta, IsaLea, Ventus x Papyrus (Undertale), that was six but they all needed to be mentioned
Character I find most attractive: Ienzo. HOO BABY he is adorable. I saw someone make a Valentine's Day gifset of KH and FF characters shortly after III dropped and seeing his smiling face paired with a romance quote made my heart FLUTTER
Character I would marry: Probably Ienzo, see above. He's also a very kind guy. Favorite redemption in the modern era.
Character I would be best friends with: I hope the Destiny Trio would adopt me into their friend circle the way they've tended to do with every other inter-world denizen they've come across. I would love to have them as my positivity squad. Or, y'know, two positivities and one "it's okay to screw up" guy. Just. I would love to hang out with them. I often worry that I'm unlikable to my faves, but even though I would usually prefer to hang with the villains, I can pretty much guarantee these three would be open-minded about me. (Do I kiiiiinda wanna be friends with Vexen though? Of course I do. He'd hate me but maaaayyyyybe he would see me as one of his pet idiots who makes him look smarter, and we could bond over our fragile egos?)
a random thought: You ever think about that one NPC lady in Traverse Town who refused to tell you where she was from because it was none of her business? You ever wonder where she WAS from? What her world was like? How she ended up being the survivor of the Ansem Apocalypse when it hit her? All I know is that when I read her lines out loud (I used to read KH speech balloons out loud all the time), I gave her a Southern accent for no discernible reason and I stand by it. That woman has a twang.
An unpopular opinion: I don't want KHUX to be canon because I feel it's smaller-scale and takes a lot of mystery out of the worldbuilding. I always assume that the KHverse just includes ALL worlds in fiction, and that includes their thousand-year histories, meaning the Age of Fairy Tales should've happened long long long LONG LONG LONG ago and not five generations. And whatever screwed up the world should've been more than just five people having a fight, and whatever saved it should've been more than just five people getting along, and Daybreak Town really suffers from having to stick to mobile-friendly graphics and therefore is the least aesthetically attractive KH town ever, and I don't like that Lauriam and Elrena used to be such selfless people. I do still love Strelitzia because she's shy and relatable and quirky (sitting on the roof) and she questions authority and if you go with shipping subtext she's probably bi (or pan?), but I don't like the "Lauriam's dead sister for his arc's drama" bit. I liked when Marluxia was angry because he wanted to run Organization XIII but it was in the hands of an idiot who wasn't him. And more than anything I just like imagining that the Age of Fairy Tales was something bigger, further in the past, and more mysterious than something designed for a mobile game. Scala ad Caelum, however, I like a lot better because there IS a lot of mystery there and also it's a very pretty town with an amazing design.
my canon OTP: I really only count the Disney couples as the "canon" ones, so this is a question of picking my favorite Disney couple that shows up onscreen. I hope I'm not forgetting an important one, but I think the title has to go to Aladdin/Jasmine, which is always perfect in everything. (This would be an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY if KH had ever adapted Treasure Planet, and if it ever gets the mind to adapt Treasure Planet then even if I don't care about that game I will immediately declare that Amelia/Doppler takes the KH canon OTP crown. *taps watch* Get on it Squenix)
Non-canon OTP: SoRiku, which I counted as "basically canon" after DDD until III decided it wasn't sure. But I'm just a sucker for how DDD is the two of them all "HE'S GOT MY BACK AND I'VE GOT HIS AND I'D DO ANYTHING FOR HIM SO LONG AS HE'S HAPPY." It's just the best kind of Friends-to-Lovers, except when you take all canon into account it's Friends-to-Rivals-to-Enemies-to-Friends-to-Lovers and that's a very juicy dynamic. BUT ALSO: VexDem, which is a nostalgia ship SO STRONG I had to accept that it eclipsed my former Vexen ships by a mile and I wanted to go back to my roots. That one, I have a much longer essay about that I'll just have you refer to so I don't repeat myself for pages. To make a long story short, their scene in III was JUST DELICIOUS.
most badass character: OOF THEY'RE ALL BADASS but in the end it's between Sora and Aqua, because Sora gets the widest RANGE of abilities across the series that he masters while Aqua gets the most POWERFUL abilities due to her Mastery (Command Styles seem like they'd be the most OP things ever in-universe and I'm here for it because flashy battle moves make brain go brr).
pairing I am not a fan of: SOKAI, Xehaqus, RikuNami, Vanitas/anyone not evil
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): OH BOY. KAIRI THE MOST. YOU ALL KNOW WHY: lack of screen time, Fridging for drama, forced romance to invite death flags (they really wanted to milk that death to get people talking didn't they?), giving Alyson Stoner ZERO direction to actually follow up on Hayden Panettiere's performance. But then I remember that they made Vexen redeem and lose his entire personality and I just...uuugghhhh. I can't believe he died twice in this series. And then Demyx is FUN but also I know he's flipped sides as well, which means he won't be fun much longer! Xehanort seems to switch motivations to whatever makes him the biggest threat (and several of Eraqus' old flaws seem to be mysteriously glued onto him), Sora isn't a motormouth anymore, Riku just doesn't get anyone who cares about him anymore because everyone's distracted by Sora and Kairi, IS ANYBODY GOING TO ADDRESS THE ACTUAL ISSUES THAT DROVE THE WAYFINDER TRIO APART, oh God Marluxia and Larxene you're good guys now what have they done to you
favourite friendship: I really like each of the trios. But you know what's even BETTER than the trios? If you put...all of the trios together...meaning Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Aqua, Terra, Ven, Roxas, Xion, Lea, Hayner, Pence, Olette...and then you added Isa back in there...and you gave them Ienzo...and you brought back Naminé...and you say that Subject X is Strelitzia and you have her turn back up so she can have justice done...AND YOU HAVE AN ULTRA KEYBLADE GROUP OF FRIENDS. As for Vexen, any purely platonic relationship I have for him is a crossover but trust me I have many crossover pals for he
character I want to adopt or be adopted by: See everyone I listed above in the friendship question. They can either mentor me or let me be their big sis/mom. But also, I will GLADLY be Merlin or Yen Sid's daughter. (But also would I kiiiiinda wanna be a VexDem daughter? This is the worst idea. Still wanna try)

BLCD Review: Torokeru Kuchibiru
Tumblr media
Title: Torokeru Kuchibiru (とろけるくちびる)
Author/Artist: Takasaki Bosco
Release Date: 2019/09/13
Cast: Furukawa Makoto x Okitsu Kazuyuki
Synopsis:
A fucking mess.
Sequel to Tadoru Yubi, this is the story of how Aihara Ryou ended up in the clutches of a dangerously persistent and even more dangerously handsome man...
Review Proper
Wow. This was a fucking mess. I really don’t know why Takasaki Bosco’s so popular when the only decent work they’ve ever done is Omae wa Hitsuji, and that’s saying something because the manga for this was released way back in 2018 while Omae wa Hitsuji was released in 2014. Why the heck are they even bringing these works back from the grave? This is Takasaki Bosco’s latest release. Again, 2018! There’s so many other/newer/better works that could’ve been adapted to a BLCD instead of this, considering that Torokeru Kuchibiru is the worst out of all of their works. Torokeru Kuchibiru is dead and it should stay dead.
As with Tadoru Yubi, I hope Makonyan and Okitsu know just how much I love them both because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have sat through this absolute shit show of a BLCD. I honestly wouldn’t even bat an eyelash to the two Takasaki Bosco works in this log if it weren’t for the VAs (sorry Satou Takuya, Uchida Yuuma, Ono Yuuki, and Shirai Yuusuke). But was it worth it? WAS IT WORTH IT, OKITSU?!
Yo, I can’t believe it. I never thought there’d be a day where Makonyan would ever carry a work where he stars in with Okitsu. Okitsu, my darling, my boo, my world, what happened??? I have confidence that Okitsu can carry any work with utmost beliavability no matter how trash the plot was (Saville Row). This is especially heartbreaking for me because even though Okitsu under performed in Tada no Classmate 3, I let him off for that because I preferred his uke roles at that time (I love both now). Now, hearing him so fake/forced in an uke role is just devastating. 😔 I just ended my first 2019 log with Koi ga Ochitara, so why is the first Okitsu work on my second 2019 log like this??? 😭😭😭 I do agree that the Okitsu under performing might have been caused by the choppy pacing and  Ryou’s dialogues that demanded him to change pitches spontaneously, but Makonyan was faced with almost the exact situation and he handled it pretty well. This is actually the most comfortable tone I’ve ever heard Makonyan do in a long while. His Riku was a little higher than his natural voice and I do kind of hear the little constriction and air he puts in it, but it didn’t sound too out of his comfort zone unlike his Sakura in Hinekure ga Koi wo Saku. I’d want to hear Makonyan in more roles like this.
Anyway, back to Okitsu. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but he really doesn’t do much comedy, now does he? He usually does those cool/jaded/get you a man/mellow/sexy roles, so I guess he’s just not cut out for that screaming tsundere type. You may want to argue that Tamura in Yarichin Bitch is of the said type, but Tamura’s...more of an idiot than a tsundere, so that doesn’t count. 😂 And Tamura is actually a quite well written character as compared to Ryou who, and I quote gwkimmy on their review for Takasaki Bosco’s Zantei Boyfriend, a “whatever character in a whatever story”. Well, thinking about it now, I don’t think anyone would be able to save Ryou anyway lol.
As for the accuracy, I did read the raws for this and it really confused me. 😂 They cut a lot of dialogues out, but the thing was still over an hour long! But you know, no matter how much they cut out of that shit, it’s still going to be shit. 🤷 I found myself questioning whether or not I was reading the right raws because it was considerably far from the original media organization-wise. If you’re a beginner, this isn’t for you. Heck, even if you were a native, I still wouldn’t recommend this to you. This, along with all of the other Takasaki Bosco BLCD adaptations, are just big overpriced mistakes made by Marine Entertainment—they even got Shingaki Tarusuke to reprise his role of Shuji here! If you’re a fan of this series and Takasaki Bosco, I honestly don’t know what to say to you. 😂 But again, I’m sorry to tell you that it wouldn’t be worth it because of Okitsu’s performance in here.

Right, need to play catch up again.  It’s just... this is not a good show.  But hey, there’s always having some fun by mocking it’s many amateurish mistakes.  Yashahime time, I guess.  Episode 8, “The Dream Gazing Trap”.
...I swear if this is a third use of the Lotus Eater Trap plot in this series I quit.  Having it once was fine, but then reusing the same thing for THE FINALE of the original series was inexcusable.
* Would you knock it off with the stupid character captions already?!
* Amazing how these people can run through the rain and not look the least bit wet.
* Right, we’ve actually got some plot development here, with Riku being the one who has the bounty on the least perilous mini-boss squad because he wants their Pearls.  And is planning on killing the heroines for theirs afterwards because he only kills the ones he loves.  Riiiiiight.  Good job making an antagonist seem both creepy and poorly written at the same time.
* Also, I think the Pearl count might be off?  Riku said there’s seven.  Setsuna and Towa each have one.  The Four Perils each have one (Moroha got hers from the one they already killed).  And Riku seems to have one.  So that’s seven.  But Jyubei is also shown to have a hidden brightly colored pearl, which brings the count up to eight.  Unless one of them is revealed to secretly be a Peril or has already stolen from them (making the bounties unnecessary) then I guess we can add “unable to do basic counting” to the list of authorial incompetencies.
* Also also, by sending the heroines to do his dirty work for him Riku is placing all of the power up MacGuffins in their hands before he makes his move.  He’s making the fight 5 or 6 against 1 or 2 in the heroines favor.  So once again the villains aren’t coming across as dangerous.  They’re looking like morons.
* ...Right, enough complaining about a single scene.  Back to the show.
* Even by the standards of this show owl minister is an idiot.  He lead the heroines right to his boss’ lair and needed to be reminded of what his own powers are.
* Plus this scene kinda downplays the actual value of a Rainbow Jewel power-up if Kyuki was willing to just hand hers to an obviously incompetent underling.
* The only reason the fight is taking place is Moroha went for capture rather than kill.  And Setsuna isn’t going for an immediate kill against a restrained foe despite being able to no-sell his attack because... reasons.
* Oh good, we’re getting flashback dreams rather than “trapped in a pleasant dream”.  That is an acceptable variation.  Carry on.
* So Miroku left Hachi’s kid with Jyubei because Hachi bit it, and Inuyasha and Kagome left Moroha with Hachi because they were about to be killed in a fight against Sesshomaru and Kirinmaru, but there’s no sign of her being passed off to Jyubei as well during this time so... I know I’m supposed to be curious at this point but this is just coming across as convoluted and thrown together.  It’s mystery for the sake of having a mystery, rather than a well written narrative or establishing character connections.  A mystery should draw your audience in, not have them questioning why it exists in the first place and screaming “Get on with it!” like characters in a Monty Python movie.  Maybe this would be more effective if the writing thus far had made me care about this, but as I would hope has been established by this point they have been failing wildly on that front.  They’re just coasting on an expectation that the audience would care because of a connection to the previous series, but 1) not everyone in the audience is going to have that after all these years, and 2) even as someone who did like Miroku that connection isn’t enough.
* And how in blazes is Towa getting Setsuna’s flashback dream of losing her dreams when she wasn’t affected by the attack because she has no dreams?!
* And rather than getting a Towa flashback she’s instead given entirely new information about the dream butterfly being a minion of the Tree.  Consistency!  Use some consistency!  AAAARGH!!!!
* Oh don’t lie about understanding the plot now, Kyuki.  There’s no way that’s possible when even the writers don’t.
* Oh gee, the villain can absorb demonic energy.  If only one of you had SOME SACRED ARROWS or something.  Moronha.  But no, instead let’s make this a contest between Kyuki and Towa as to who can suck harder.
* Moroha can’t fight because her demon energy has been drained, so she helps Towa get a handle on her energy absorption by using a demonic attack.  They just.  Didn’t.  Care.
* And in the end Riku had to step in and finish things because Towa is an idiot who turns her back on an opponent.  Well that’s a win for Riku I guess.  He’s got two Jewels now.  Also it’s day now because it takes several hours to apply a band-aid.  *sigh* Can’t even be consistent with the time of day...
So it should be needless to say at this point, but let me make my stance clear.
THIS EPISODE SUCKED!  THIS SHOW SUCKS!
I don’t know who is writing this thing as the credits are in Japanese, but this has got to be some of the worst, low effort dreck I’ve ever sat through.  I can’t believe something like this is a professional product.  Is it me?  Am I just so ready to see faults here I’m being extra nitpicky?  Is the stress of being surrounded by COVIDiots making me a complete sourpuss even away from work?  I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here!

Day 5 of @khoc-week : Facing Their Fears
For the next couple of days I decided to post some writing snippets instead of just talking about Meli.  This particular chapter snippet is from Book 2 - Inferno’s Edge, and it...kinda fulfills the prompt?  Mostly?  Anyway, there are some pretty major spoilers for the first 2 books ahead, so if you have plans to read the series then I wouldn’t read below the cut (if the cut works. This is my first time trying to use one, and attempt 2 at posting this, since the first time the cut completely failed).  Unless you need a few spoilers to help you decide if you want to read it, then go ahead I guess!
.
.
“Meli!”
I looked up in time to see Riku drop from the black sky and land in a crouch several yards away. “Grim!” I gasped.  “What are you doing here?  Where are we?”
Straightening, he turned his head slowly from side to side, taking in our surroundings, before locking his gaze on me.  “I'm sorry, Meli.  I had Mickey put you to sleep so that I could dive into your heart.  It was the only way we could think of to get through to you.”
“This...this is my heart?”
“Yeah.”  His mouth was set in a firm line.  “I just...I just finished fighting through your memories to get here.”  He motioned up toward where he had fallen from.  “All of your darkest memories, that is.”
“What?”  One emotion, fear, rose above the rest and stabbed through my chest with such force that I winced in pain.  “What do you mean?  What did you see?”
He hesitated before answering. “Everything.”  Fear assaulted me again, and he sighed.  “At least, I sure hope it was everything.  Because if there was more than that...”  He shook his head sadly.  “I saw some stuff from your childhood...and Aiden...all the things he used to do to you...”
Anger burned inside of me until I thought I might actually catch fire.
“I saw...myself...as Ansem...”
Shame threatened to pull me down into its abyss and suffocate me.
“I saw...”  His jaw twitched, and he drew in a deep breath.  “I saw Saix.”
Panic dug its familiar talons into my throat, choking me, and fresh tears poured from my eyes.
“I could feel all of it, too...I doubt it was anything near what you felt, but I felt the pain, and the fear, and all of the other emotions.”
“Can you feel them now?” I whispered.
He nodded.  “Like I said, it's nothing like what you're feeling, I'm sure.  But a little bit, yes. I...have a feeling this is the result of you suppressing all of these emotions so much.”
I dropped my forehead down onto my knees.  “So I asked for this, in other words.”
“No.”  I heard him grunt, and glanced up to see that one of his legs was wrapped in a black rope.  He tried to pull his leg away, but it wouldn't budge.  Finally he summoned his Keyblade and chopped the rope off from the bottom, and it promptly dissipated into mist.
His eyes met mine again.  “No, you didn't ask for this.  You wanted me to understand why you chose the darkness, and...I think I finally do.  The memories didn't just stop at Saix.  I saw other things, too – the panic attacks, the nightmares...feeling like you were being left behind and forgotten...feeling lonely and misunderstood...feeling rejected by everyone.  I get it now.  I thought I understood you before, and I really didn't, and...I'm so sorry.”
Unidentified emotions shook my body, and I couldn't even answer for a moment.  The implications of everything he was saying were too much for me to comprehend.  My mind stuck on one fact, though, no matter what he said.  “But...but it is my fault. I've been...I've been such an idiot, Grim!”  More tears slipped out as I finally started to see the truth for the first time.  “I never should have let the darkness in.  You were right, I did know where it would lead, but I refused to listen.  I should've...I should've told all of you what was going on, from the very beginning, and maybe...maybe then none of this would have happened.  I'm so...I'm so sorry.”  I hid my face again, overwhelming shame making its way back to the forefront.
Riku was quiet, and for a second I wondered if he was going to agree with me, if he was going to tell me that yes, I had been an idiot, and maybe it wasn't worth his time to be here after all.  “I do wish you had talked to us.  I think you...and everyone else could have been spared a lot of pain if we had just known what was going on in your head and heart.  None of us would ever reject or abandon you, Meli.  We love you, and we always want to be there for you.”
I nodded against my knees, then lifted my head to look at him again. “I know.  I know that...now.  I just...I was so blinded by all the...everything, that...”  I trailed off, reorienting my thoughts. “And I'm just so used to nobody caring.  It's...I'm still adjusting, to having people actually care.”
“I know.  Believe me, I know that now more than I ever have before.”  He took a deep breath. “My point was, though, that I do understand why you tried to squelch your negative emotions.  I can't say I've never wanted to do the same things before, and you, well...you've had enough of them to last you a lifetime.”  He tried to take a step forward, and another black rope rose out of the fog at his feet and wrapped around his other leg.
It doesn't want him to come near me.  “Grim, be careful,” I called in a wavering voice.
Chopping this one off like the first, he stood still again for the moment.  “I saw Zephyr, too,” he continued quietly.  “I wish you had told me.”
I was immediately swallowed up in grief, so strong that it was like I was still holding his dead body in my arms.  “It's all my fault that he's gone!  He would still be alive and living happily at home if I had just left him alone!”  A sob wrenched from my throat.  “How am I gonna tell his mom?  He was all the family that she had.”
“Meli...”  Riku tried to run to me, but he couldn't get ahead of the darkness that wanted to hold him back.  Two more ropes tied both of his legs in place.  Growling in frustration, he cut one off and took another step, only for the leg to be captured once again.  A third strand twisted around his left arm.  When he reached to slice that one off, another grabbed his right wrist and jerked it down, winding its way up the arm and preventing any further use of his Keyblade.
“Grim!”  My grief was quickly replaced by fear.  I tried standing again, but the same black cords latched onto both my arms and yanked me back down onto my hands and knees. They were ice cold, sending chills down to my very core. “I can't...it's too strong!”  The darkness, the fear, all of it. It was like Riku had said, it was eating me alive, right here in my heart, and for the first time I realized that this could be it. There might not be any hope left for me.
I could see the cords snaking further around Riku's body, winding onto his shoulders and chest, and could feel them doing the same to me.  I was trapped.  For all the times that I had wanted to die before, now I finally didn't.  But more than anything, I didn't want Riku to have to die here with me. “Maybe...maybe if you back up away from me it will let you go.  You should get out of here if you possibly can.”
“I'm not leaving you.”
“I don't deserve for you to save me, Grim, even if you could.”  My mind started flitting back over the things I had done that day, nearly taking my breath away with the shock of realization.  “I deserve for the darkness to take me.  I'm the one that let it in, I'm the one that let it take over. If I had just listened to what you were all trying to tell me...” I shook my head, tears forming in my eyes again.  “All of that time that I hated you for hurting me when the darkness took you over, and today I did the exact same thing.  I turned on the people I care about the most...you, and Kairi...”  I gasped as I remembered.  “I think I hurt Sora!”
“Sora's a tough guy, he'll be fine.  And we all know that you didn't mean it.”  He struggled against the ropes, but they only tightened.  “No one deserves to die for a mistake.  You can make it out of this.  Don't give up hope.”
“I don't know how!” I sobbed.
“I'm not saying it's going to be easy.  Even when we get out of here, there's still going to be darkness left in you, there's no way you can get rid of every shred of it.  There will always be a bit of a struggle.”  One side of his mouth lifted in a sympathetic smile.  “But I've got the same problem, remember?  We can struggle through it together.”

ten ships and why!! I was tagged by @alienfuckeronmain AHH THANK U I LOVE TALKING ABT THIS SHIT
Half of my list is childhood best friends to lovers let's GOOOO
1. drarry
*deep shuddering inhale* I have thought abt draco and harry being foils before I even reached double digits. they could have saved each other and had so much potential to even just be FRIENDS!! if j*r wasn't like that, then she could have actually made a meaningful impact on draco early on. abt how you don't have to be your parents! and how to heal!! anyway I love them any way shape or form. I love reading dark gritty fucked up stories about them just as much as I love reading domestic silly fluffy stuff for them. draco would NOT put up with harry's bullshit and harry would NOT go easy on draco either but they're ultimately just two lonely boys who grew up in fucked up households who have much more in common than they realize!!! LIKE!!
2. wangxian
yes they're a new one but God their love extends so deeply. yes they r basically Chinese fantasy Kirk/spock!!
lan zhan is so in love w wei ying and is so devoted and everything he does is action or acts of service which js very much my love language!! but he also feels a deep sense of obligation to the rules and codes he's learned?? and wei ying loves lan zhan but it takes him a long time to accept it bc he DOESNT BELIEVE HE IS DESERVIG OF LOVE despite being so GOOD. AND THEY NEVER TALK TO EACH OTHER OR COMMUNICATE THEY WAY THEY SHOULD!!!! AND HE DIES and LAN ZHAN IS JUST. REPENTENT FOR 16 YEARS AND RAISES HIS SON AND IS SO INCREDIBLY SAD AND MISERABLE BUT THEN WWX comes BACK TO LIFE and they get to try again AND THEY GET TO BE HAPPY???? ANYWAY ACTS OF DEVOTION I!!!!
3. soriku
I've genuinely thought abt them since I was TEN when the first kingdom hearts game came out but it didn't solidify until KH2 came out when sora has to search for riku the entire game and when he finally does RIKU DOESNT EVEN LOOK LIKE HIMSELF BUT SORA STILL RECOGNIZES HIM ANYWAY AND HOLDS HIS HAND AND CRIES. THAT SHIT MADE ME GAY! I had never witnessed such tenderness and they are so inherently queer and subtle that it's one of the first stories I ever saw myself in. on top of that I also read that doujinshi that I consider Canon and it's so!! childhood best friends! with big complicated feelings of jealousy and betrayal and possessiveness when you start to grow apart from the person you care about the most!! and in game they're slowly... circling to become end game? the entire story revolves around them saving each other and RIKU LITERALLY CALLING SORA HIS MOST PRECIOUS PERSON? AHHHHHH
4. sterek
I will never forgive what the show did but the Fandom and the writing from that fandom is incredibly important to me. they're like my comfort pairing and I just love that Derek is sad and grumpy but it's because he's fucked up and needs to go to therapy and stiles is also kind of fucked up but happier and he's smart and beautiful and!!! they were obviously attracted to each other!! almost all of their stories involve CONSENT or Derek hale getting better slowly. they mean a lot to me bc my mom was dying while I clung to this fandom and wrote my grief fic and I always associate them with that time in my life. I could and did read like 30 stories abt Derek doing laundry and buying wooden spoons and trying to move on and be a healthier happier person.
5. taagnus
rarely have rare pairs but this is one of them and!!! look. I didn't ship them until the last two arcs of the show revealed that instead of only knowing each other for a few years and being idiots they in fact knew each other for 100 years+ and DIED A LOT together and saved each other. BUT COULDN'T REMEMBER IT YET THEY STILL KIND OF... FALL IN LOVE AGAIN? they balance each other so much. magnus is magnus - brave and GOOD. taako is so closed off, careful abt trusting people so when he acted on gut instinct to LITERALLY THROW HIS SOUL OUT OF HIS BODY TO SAVE MAGNUS I was hooked. I know that taako ends up w kravitz but bc we didn't get to see Krav much I couldn't grow attached to him? I love the thought of first love and exploring that - how it never goes away, really but you can still love other people!! plus! I love writing them as lesbians! they're butch/femme to me!
6. ruth/debbie
UGH. UGH!!!!! they're so obsessed with each other and it's so filled with repression and anger and betrayal thst has nothing to do with Ruth fucking her husband and everything to do with the trust of their friendship. it's such a complicated weird fucked up intense 'friendship' that I love to see and like!! sometimes my friendships w women FELT like that. the times I have felt the most hurt is when I lose a friend bc a part of me is in love w them in some way!! Ruth and Debbie are just. in love. though. and Ruth is never gonna admit it and she's gonna... be in a comp het relationship even tho she thinks Debbie is smart and sexy and she idolizes her GOD.
7. gene/finny
YES MOST OF MY PAIRINGS ARE SAD WHAT OF IT? I read this book as a sophomore in hs and I simply could not stop thinking abt how gay and in love they were. FIRST OF ALL THE metaphors!!!!!! gene as winter and finny as summer!! and how codependent and weird they were even tho finny KNEW gene broke his leg. he didn't want to believe it bc he WAS IN LOVE WITH HIM. THEY WENT ON A DATE TO THE BEACH? THE PINK SHIRT? finny being the embodiment of childhood innocence and Gene literally breaking that? and killing it? once again I just love reading abt how complex jealousy is and where it comes from and also REPRESSION!!!
8. forrden
yes I'm including my own OC with @dosalesbian
I wrote abt them for FOUR YEARS. they're childhood best friends who fall in love and marry and are in love no matter what universe and are so soft and tender and healing. forrest goes thru a lot of gender exploration and aiden is just the partner I want to be!! he's goofy and LOVES HER SO MUCH AND SUPPORTS HER SO MUCH GOD!!!!
9. kuroken
they r a new one and yes once again childhood best friends but in a FUN NEW WAY that I want to explore. kenma is like disinterested in most things except gaming and whatever kuroo wants to do and has a hard time socializing bc he's SHY and is too observant! and kuroo is big and dumb and passionate but was also a stupid anxious child. I think they're those friends who are dating but don't even know they're dating or their relationship is so indescribable to themselves and others that it's hard to take any step forward or backward bc theyre SO codependent and yes. I want to explore that and read abt them more.
10. don't look at me yes im putting ryden on here
THEY WERE IN LOVE BUT COULDNT ADMIT IT AND THEN BRENDON WROTE 3 BREAKUP ALBUMS ABT RYAN? AND RYAN RELEASED A SONG THE SAME WEEK BRENDON GOT MARRIED? they're never gonna be friends again bc they can't just be friends
okay!! I tag @scottspack @dosalesbian @pattern-pals hehe

It was hard, for both of them, trying to piece their lives back together, both /together/, and apart.
Radiant Garden could be more destroyed. It had been. At a point. It had been utterly gone at a point. Transformed by their own greed for knowledge.
But his World was at least back in some form of capacity after the destruction of Xehanort. And Vexen had slipped back into being Even with ease. The two were really the same side of a coin. Vexen had simply not had to care about morals when it came to science.
His research could happen without any pesky interruptions from his own mind.
But he was whole, once more, and Ansem was back, and he was thankful for the man who was a critical part of his heart and family, but it made being in his lab strange.
He had committed his life so deeply to the clone research. Because he could. Because he was told to. He could never have imagined what it’s true purpose would be. But he had never put much weight into the thought of time travel until then either. Until his services were needed and he had no idea what degree of agent he had been at the end.
To think they would truly believe that he would betray Ienzo like that. How idiotic could they be.
But he had to leave with Saix without telling him, and it had been a painful but easy fact. He was needed on that side. That side had his research. He wanted Vexen’s journals more than anything else. And then he had been instructed to make empty vessels, like Xion, but more perfect, and it had been easy.
So, so easy.
So easy because his loyalty was not to Xemnas but Ienzo. It had always been to the child gifted to him by Ansem all those years ago.
So easy to ask Demyx, because his research had given him an out to the battle, to bring something to Ienzo. Because no one would expect that he would speak to Demyx. Vexen had always made it very liberally known his feelings on the other members.
His feelings that were not real and merely built on fragments of memories. Marluxia had always made them feel so real.
Marluxia who was there, again, with Larxene, of course, and that was a part of the puzzle that Vexen could not understand. How had Marluxia fallen back to Xehanort? Why was he not his Somebody once more? That was all the man had wanted at Oblivion. To find a way back.
Even, Vexen, felt beyond foolish to learn the way back was death. And not even death via Keyblade. His body would always have scars from Axel. As if he needed reason to hate his body more.
He couldn’t speak to Marluxia. Not then. Not when everyone was planning something. Because it could go either way.
It had almost gone bad. Very wrong.
Vexen had not cared, or perhaps he had cared too much.
Science or family. He hated himself for constantly making that a decision in his life.
But they had won in the end. Won were it mattered. Even if Sora was missing. Dead but not dead. And his research had turned to focus on that.
Because Ienzo and Ansem willed that.
They owed the children that much.
So he settled into his new life. Because his life was science and his family.
But Lauriam.
Lauriam was distinctively not Marluxia.
That had been clearest in the way he spoke to Ansem when he first appeared on Radiant Garden. Elrena close to his side. Elrena who was softer as well.
Everything made so much sense about the two of them when he learned of Strelitzia.
Lauriam had spoken plainly to Ansem. Because Ansem was a kind king and deserved as much. Because Ansem knew betrayal intimately.
Ansem insisted that Lauriam and Elrena stay with them. The castle had plenty of space and he had the notion that he wanted to be close to some mildly familiar faces.
Lauriam had hesitated and Elrena had bristled. They had always been a duo. But eventually Lauriam had agreed. To find their bearings. To try and understand the time and place.
Ansem had merely told them to take as much time as they needed.
It was a week into their stay that Lauriam had even come near the labs. Even could not get out of Lauriam /where/ he had woken up. His response to any question that was a bit too deep was an immediate shut down.
Once it had been his Keyblade. And that had made a few more pieces fit into place.
“Allow me to speak freely?”
Even startled at the voice.
Ienzo had left his side a few minutes ago and Even had fallen right back into his research. Memories held the key to everything. Memories controlled everything. It was work that made his heart ache with thoughts of Oblivion. The Riku Replica should have been a perfect idea. But it had wanted to be too real. Ienzo had hesitated for some time before admitting to him how he had died.
“Lauriam,” Even turned slowly, feeling suddenly caged, “Go ahead.”
“I had wanted to talk to you about this before, but it seemed foolish to speak of death when it would be coming again soon.” Lauriam started as he walked across the room.
“How morbid of you.”
“I have always been on the side of Sora, after all.” Lauriam smirked, but it fell quickly. “Do you know what became of the Riku Replica?”
“He died in battle, I presume. He was not a large primary focus of mine. You must realize.” Even responded with a wave of his hand. “A failed means to an end.”
“How heartless of you.” Lauriam laughed. “Vexen was so proud of him. Honestly, it was cute.”
“You thought it was /cute/ that I made a replica out of spite?”
“Marluxia found everything about Vexen cute.” Lauriam shrugged. “He created a whole interior being to try and prove that Sora was the wrong choice. Even now you do not get it. Why it had to be Sora. Always Sora.”
“I doubt I ever will. But I’ve always been more on the side of dark, Mr. Champion of Light.”
“You’re either getting guardians or princes mixed up, which I am neither.” Lauriam shook his head a little. “Or are you making fun of me?”
“There’s princes of light?” Even squinted at him.
“There’s princesses of heart. Which are hearts that lack dark, so essentially they are light.” Lauriam sighed. “Did we ever properly apologize to all the people the Organization kidnapped?”
“No, too busy dying.” Even smirked at him. “But there are /princes/?”
“Well, there’s Ventus. More a joke, then anything.”
 “How is that boy?”
“Odd, but I am happy for him.” Lauriam placed a hand over his heart. “I am very thankful to Terra and Aqua.”
“Odd?”
“He is still a boy. I was only a few years older than him. I... worry it makes him uncomfortable.”
“That’s understandable.” Even gave him a careful smile. “What did you actually want to talk about?”
“I wanted to apologize. For before.” Lauriam swallowed. “I- I did not expect Axel to actually go through with it. To go that far to- to win my /favor/.” He scuffed a little and played with his hands. “I do not expect you to ever forgive me, but I needed you to know that I did regret it.”
“Do you have scars from your death?” Even questioned. “I believe you, but only on the basis that you killed me while I was still useful to you.”
“You have burn scars?” Lauriam’s voice hitched a little. Wounded. “Vexen needed to only stay out of the way. He allowed a- a /pissing contest/ to destroy him.”
“Yes, and you are not being pleasant enough to see them.” Even scuffed. “Well maybe if Marluxia had gotten off his high horse it wouldn’t have been such a problem.”
“We both know you would love if I bent you over your desk right this second.” Lauriam laughed. “Xemnas gave him a /castle/.”
“Shut up.” Even snapped. “That castle should have been Vexen’s.”
“What a joke.” Lauriam stepped closer to him then. “Even now you don’t get it. Would Namine have listened?”
“What?” Even stepped back into the desk. The feeling familiar against his lower back. Familiar ground.
“What was the purpose of Castle Oblivion? What would you have done with Sora? That castle was not supposed to have casualties. Larxene and Marluxia were meant to handle him. Nothing else. To lead him through his memories so Namine could do her job. Why was Vexen stationed there? Why were Lexaeus and Zexion?”
“Are you accusing Castle Oblivion of having been a trap?” Even stared down at him. He grasped the desk behind him so he did not grab Lauriam.
“Namine was making Sora loyal to her, was he not? How were we meant to control him? It seems so obvious now.”
“You’re terrible at apologies, you know that?” Even sighed. “You can’t change the past. ...Probably.”
Lauriam laughed a little. “Probably.” Lauriam sighed and slowly placed his hands over Even’s. “My point is. Nothing about Castle Oblivion went correctly. I regret all of it. I do not expect forgiveness. I am aware I do not deserve you after what I did. But I would like a chance.”
“Are you... are you asking me out?” Even stared at him in shock.
“I think I am. If that is okay.”
“Give me time to think. My mind and body are- /competing/.”
“I am being a touch unfair.” Lauriam slipped his hands away and stepped back. “Take as much time as you need.”
“You are serious?”
“Marluxia’s words were never lies. But Vexen was a liability and there was a war.”
“Come back tomorrow.” Even gave a small nod. “Do you- do you still-” he swallowed and finally reached for Lauriam “Do you still feel that way?”
“I am not Marluxia.” Lauriam responded. “What they felt is theirs. We cannot build a solid foundation on it.”
“I understand.” Even placed a hand on his cheek. “A fresh start.”
“That is all I ask for.” Lauriam leaned into his touch. “Remember to eat dinner, Even. And get some rest.”
“Yes, yes.” Even stepped closer. “Tell me something.”
“Anything.”
“You really mean that, don’t you?”
“Do I have reason to lie or keep secrets from you?” Lauriam closed his eyes.
“I- I suppose not.” Even held his ground. “Back then, it was love at first sight, is that still-”
“Even.” Lauriam cut him off with a kind smile. “Think about my offer and give me your answer tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Even withdrew his hand slowly. He had nearly kissed him. It had been so easy to fall into the motions of his body. The control of it all.
Lauriam caught his hand. “I’ll make you breakfast.”
“That would be nice.” Even gave him a small nod. A promise for tomorrow. Something to look forward to and think on.
It wasn’t really a question of yes or no.
It was a question of what they did after the yes.

IDOLiSH7 4th Anniversary Special Story: Best Wishes...
Chapter 3: Gacchan's Inspection
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5
Momo: Good work this week~! Just a little longer, and we'll have our vacation day!
Yuki: Right. We should go out together on our next off day.
Momo: Really!? I hope you're not just saying that, and planning to sleep through the day anyway.
Yuki: We can go out in the evening. You know, somewhere... in the neighborhood.
Momo: It's our long-awaited day off, so I wanna wake up early and go to the sea or the mountains! I wanna do something recreational!
Yuki: You're so energetic... I'll need five consecutive vacation days before I'm even mentally prepared to go to the seaside or mountains.
Yuki: Let's just watch a DVD together. I can't handle the splatter stuff that you love, but I did like the film we watched the other day.
Momo: Liar, you slept through it.
Yuki: I didn't, I swear.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Good work today.
Momo & Yuki: .......!?
Momo: What!? Where's Okarin's voice coming from!?
Yuki: Ah... There's a speaker fixed to the ceiling.
Momo: Huh!? You're right!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Can you hear me?
Momo & Yuki: We can hear you.
Momo: What's up with this?
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: That foreign TV show, "Johnny's Venuses", has been popular recently, yes?
Momo: Yeah. It's about an all-female detective agency, where their boss Johnny gives orders to the Venuses.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Yes, that one.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Our president said he wanted to try that...
Yuki: Is he an idiot?
Momo: That's the reason he put up speakers!?
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: He wants to try giving out orders. I'm sure he'll get tired of it in due time... My apologies...
Yuki: I don't want someone's disembodied voice telling me what to do... Especially Rintaro's...
Momo: But it does sound kind of fun! Okarin, try talking like the boss of a detective agency.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Gentlemen, I have a new mission for you.
Momo: Like that! That's cool!
Yuki: Crap. I think my heart just skipped a beat.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Did you like that?
Yuki: I want to do it next.
Momo: Me too, me too!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Ah, before that, I must tell you about your next job. After you finish filming in Hokkaido tomorrow, you'll go to Sky Blue Mall, which is here in the city...
Momo: Say it like a boss!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: You'll infiltrate Sky Blue Mall and investigate "Anniversary", its new organic café.
Momo: Boss!
Yuki: Boss!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: You're to have a shoot and autograph the walls of the establishment before it opens its doors. A mission that I'm sure is within your caliber.
Yuki: I'm assuming we'll be fairly compensated?
Momo: I'll like, totally do my best, Boss!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: That is all.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Did you understand what I just told you~?
Momo: Yeah, no problem!
Yuki: Anniversary, how nostalgic. We worked for them after we'd just debuted.
Momo: That's right! We used it for our very first fan meet.
Momo: They asked for our autographs before the opening, but since we haven't had the time to visit, it'll be really last minute.
Yuki: We can finally return the favor. I just hope our plane won't be late.
Door opens
Rinto Okazaki: I'm back.
Momo: Welcome back.
Rinto Okazaki: Oh, about tomorrow. Try to disguise yourselves the best you can, so no one recognizes you.
Rinto Okazaki: It seems Sky Blue Mall is doing many secret events for its re-opening, so they have strict regulations in place to prevent information leaks.
Momo: Really?
Rinto Okazaki: Yes. They don't allow the possession of cameras or smartphones without permission.
Yuki: They're like a particularly strict art museum.
Rinto Okazaki: As acquainted as we are with them, there'll likely be chaos if people know Re:vale will be there...
Momo: Got it. We'll try not to stand out! Though my Yuki is such a handsome man that he'll probably stand out, anyway!
Yuki: True.
Rinto Okazaki: I'm sure it'll be difficult to have to come back here for work after a whole day of filming in Hokkaido, but I'm counting on you!

Mall Event Staff: Nice to meet you, ŹOOĻ. We look forward to your concert at the re-opening event tomorrow.
Mall Event Staff: Today we'll have a prep meeting and rehearsal. We'll try not to keep you here too long, but...
Ryo Tsukumo: That aside, why do even I have to give up my phone?
Mall Event Staff: As you've been informed, a permit is required to carry filming equipment here... You may use our internal communications line if you need anything.
Ryo Tsukumo: Yeah yeah, I get it.
Toma Inumaru: We look forward to working with you.
Minami Natsume: We look forward to working with you.
Minami Natsume: There are many workers here. They must be in a hurry to finish before the opening. Perhaps some will even have to work overnight?
Torao Mido: Huh...
Haruka Isumi: It's pretty fun to see the shops before they open.
Mall Event Staff: Well then, allow me to guide you to the space reserved for the opening ceremony and your concert.
- - - -
Riku Nanase: Wow, so this is VR LAND!
Mitsuki Izumi: Our signs are lining up the walls!
Tamaki Yotsuba: And they're playing an ad on the monitor at the front of the place!
VR LAND Staff: IDOLiSH7's VR experience will be held in the main space inside the facility! Please, take a look!
Tsumugi Takanashi: Do you plan to film the footage one by one?
Cameraman: That's right! I'd like to get about 5-10 minutes with each of them!
Yamato Nikaido: Understood. Who's going first?
Tamaki Yotsuba: I wanna go!
Sogo Osaka: Tamaki-kun, you'll get bored if you have to wait too long after your own shoot. Why don't you let others go before you?
Tamaki Yotsuba: I'll be fine. I wanna go first.
Nagi Rokuya: OH! There are so many balloons!
Iori Izumi: They're most likely for the visitors tomorrow. Such cute balloons...
Riku Nanase: There's a VR space exploration experience! I want to come play here sometime!
VR LAND Staff: Would you like to try it right now? As long as you have the time, of course!
Riku Nanase: May I? Yay!

Soba Chef Matsuda-san: Gaku-cha... Ah, I mean, Gacchan! Mind checking what's in that box for me?
Gaku Yaotome: Sure thing. It's bowls... Tecchan, help me count these bowls.
Tenn Kujo: OK, Gacchan. Tsuna-chan, can I leave this to you?
Ryunosuke Tsunashi: Yeah, I'll assemble the rest. Go help Gacchan.
Kaoru Anesagi: Massan! I'll leave the tea you asked here!
Soba Chef Matsuda-san: Thanks a lot, Kaoru-chan!
Gaku Yaotome: Phew... This is taking pretty long. I don't think we'll be done by 9 p.m., like we're supposed to.
- - - -
Anniversary's Owner: Ah, I didn't think you'd actually come... Seeing as you're some of Japan's top idols now...
Momo: Shh, we're incognito today. Here's a souvenir from Hokkaido! It's white chocolate!
Yuki: I can't believe you're opening a branch near the station now. What kind of misdeeds did you commit to get a place like this?
Anniversary's Owner: The same as you. Lots of hard work. Ah, try this.
Momo: Wow! This really brings me back! Anniversary's roll cakes!
Rinto Okazaki: Let me take a picture of it, please! Stand together, you three!
Rinto Okazaki: One, two...
Snap.
- - - -
Ryo Tsukumo: Ah. There was a place I needed to call.
Ryo Tsukumo: Torao. Go find an internal communications line.
Torao Mido: Someone from the staff will be here in a minute. Ask them.
Ryo Tsukumo: Forget it, then.
Toma Inumaru: What did you need to make a call for?
Ryo Tsukumo: Oh, nothing big. Several people will only lose their jobs if they don't get an answer from me.
Toma Inumaru: ...Go make that call! I'll find a spot where you can use the phones.
Ryo Tsukumo: Yeah, make it snappy.
Toma Inumaru: Got it.
Ryo Tsukumo: .........
Ryo Tsukumo: Don't you think he's taking too long?
Torao Mido: He just left!
Minami Natsume: Ryo-san, you're not very patient, are you?
Haruka Isumi: Hey, stop tapping your foot.
Ryo Tsukumo: Haruka, go after him.
Haruka Isumi: Just wait until Toma comes back!
Ryo Tsukumo: He might've stopped looking, so he could laze around somewhere. Hurry up and go.
Haruka Isumi: Ugh... I'll go.
Minami Natsume: Be careful not to get lost.
Haruka Isumi: Got it.
Ryo Tsukumo: .........
Ryo Tsukumo: Don't you think he's taking too long?
Torao Mido: He's not.
Minami Natsume: He is not.
Ryo Tsukumo: Hey, one of you could...
Torao Mido: No.
Minami Natsume: I refuse.
Ryo Tsukumo: Do you not care that good people could lose their jobs over this!? You celebrities are so heartless.
Torao Mido: Just wait.
Ryo Tsukumo: Doing what?
Minami Natsume: You could meditate.
Torao Mido: Count your fingers, for all I care.
Ryo Tsukumo: Aaah... I'm so bored without my phone... Aaah, it's so irritating...
Torao Mido: Stop hitting the displays.
Minami Natsume: Don't bite your nails.
Ryo Tsukumo: Fine, I'll go myself!
Minami Natsume: You could just wait.
Torao Mido: It's fine, let him be.
Ryo Tsukumo: This is the worst..! I'll tear through entire floors of brand new goods to find that internal line if I have to!
Torao Mido & Minami Natsume: .........
Torao Mido: Hold on a sec, Ryo-san!
Minami Natsume: Please don't make a scene. Ah...
Bzzt
Minami Natsume: ...A blackout..?
- - - -
Tamaki Yotsuba: Is the shoot gonna be done soon?
Iori Izumi: Not for a while. Are you already bored?
Tamaki Yotsuba: Hey, what do you think that is?
Riku Nanase: I was wondering about it, too! An arcade, maybe..? It's like some kind of attraction..?
Tamaki Yotsuba: Rikkun, you done shooting?
Riku Nanase: I am! Maybe we could go take a closer look.
Tamaki Yotsuba: Let's go!
Iori Izumi: They just told you not to wander off.
Riku Nanase: We won't wander off, we'll be back in a minute. Don't worry, we're wearing our disguises!
Tamaki Yotsuba: Yeah, we'll check it out on our way to the toilet!
Riku Nanase: Yep!
Iori Izumi: ......... I worry about what you two might get up to by yourselves. I'll come with you.
Iori Izumi: Manager, excuse us for a moment. We'll return shortly.
Tsumugi Takanashi: Alright!
Tamaki Yotsuba: Hey, Rikkun! Wanna check what's over there, too?
Riku Nanase: What is that!? A sweets shop?
Iori Izumi: Hey! Wait, you two!
Bzzt
Iori Izumi: .......!
Iori Izumi: ...The lights... Even the emergency lamps went out...
To be continued...

prompt: “Big Sibling” + Kairi & Isa (& Wayfinder Trio)
requested by: @alounuitte
I HAVEN’T WRITTEN KH IN AGES. ARE THESE GUYS EVEN IN CHARACTER? DAMN I HOPE SO
BIG thanks to my friend who requested KH, specifically Kairi & Isa and “Big Sibling” which is SUCH an interesting take but I am LEGITIMATELY DIGGING IT and y’know what? Hell yeah it’s Isa redemption hours. Hell yeah. I mean, they still got a lot to work through, but it’s happening.
this takes place between KH3 and uh that “year later” thing in RE:mind ENJOY!
- o - o - o -
Avidya [Read on AO3]
- o - o - o -
When Sora is gone and Kairi doesn’t know what to do with her empty hands because the one that used to hold her right has disappeared and the one who used to hold her left chased after him in the hopes of bringing him back, Kairi puts herself to good use. Riku is Riku and refuses to take her with him, so Kairi takes Sora’s gummi ship and seeks out her own adventures for as long as she thinks it’ll help.
She doesn’t need to--will not--wait for Sora to be found when she can look for him herself.
She just…doesn’t know what to think about the ever-present shadow that stubbornly hovers at her back.
- o - o - o -
Kairi swings Destiny’s Embrace in a strong, downward strike. After the wriggly heartless under her boots bursts and dissolves, she spins around. Her mouth is curled into a dark, frowning curve; her keyblade snaps out to strike another leaping at her from her right. The flowers along the edge cut through the shadow’s throat, ripping it into nothing. “I don’t need your help.”
“That was never debated.”
Kairi rolls her eyes. She digs the heel of her boot into soil, grabs the hilt of Embrace with both hands, and shoves it forward into the heartless soldier scrabbling at her. “Then stop following me.”
Isa’s blue hair fans around his shoulders as he moves. He is not used to the keyblade in his hand; he keeps trying to wield it like his usual claymore.
To be honest, she can’t even believe the thing is in his hands at all.
With a growling cry, Kairi cuts the last shadow down and releases a deep sigh. Destiny’s Embrace glitters away, but she would be lying if she tried to say she wasn’t tempted to keep it ready at a moment’s notice with him around.
“There. They’re all gone now,” she says and fists her hands at her sides. “I’m fine. You can go back to Twilight Town.”
Isa doesn’t say a word, so Kairi turns around again. He stands with his arms crossed over his chest, feet shoulder-width apart, a yard or two behind her, like he expects her to be okay with him here in the first place.
“I said,” she stresses and extends her arms at either side, “you can go back. If you were waiting for something like permission, then there it is! You have it! Bye!”
When he still doesn’t say anything, Kairi makes a grand show of rolling her eyes and spinning around to walk down this world’s beautifully forested hill. She doesn’t have the time or patience for him.
So why the hell can she feel him following her descent?
- o - o - o -
The gummi ship’s rockets putter as it comes to a stop. Space is vast and infinite around them, an endless expanse of stars and criss-crossed nebulas that look like the smokey efforts of a child finger painting with watercolor. It’s gorgeous. It’s immense. It’s serene. It’s exactly what Kairi needs right now.
“Okay, dude, we need to talk. It’s been three days. When are you finally gonna get off this ship and leave me alone?”
Kairi’s cheek is bunched against her palm as she lounges in the driver’s seat. Her other wrist hangs loosely over the steering, eyes lifting to the glass dome above them and Isa’s frowning reflection she can see the faint outline of.
Isa doesn’t answer.
Which is exactly half of the problem.
Kairi turns, tossing both of her feet over the side of the pilot’s chair. “Why aren’t you answering me?”
“There’s no answer I have to give that will be satisfactory to you.”
“That’s--” Kairi almost bites her tongue. It’s frustratingly accurate. That pisses her off, too. “Look. I can try, okay? I can try to understand but that’s only if you have a good reason.”
“You speak like you already think I’m not here for a good reason.”
“I have it in good faith that you’re not here for Sora and that’s the only reason I see that’s good right now.” Kairi glares hard into citrine eyes; for some reason, they remind her of acid. “So no, I don’t think you’re here for a ‘good’ reason.”
Isa’s look is enough to communicate a single, humbling word: Exactly.
“You say you’ll try,” he mutters quietly. “But pre-condemning me based upon your presumptions seems to hinder that effort.”
Kairi’s lips slam together.
In echo to her silence, something in Isa softens. He turns to look out at the endless stretch of space surrounding them. There’s a glimmering, sunset-painted world surrounded by flower petals a fair distance away. “If you wish to know, if you care to…” he does not finish that thought; perhaps it’s because he cannot finish it. “…I wish for atonement.”
“…what, now?”
Isa’s sharp, angular features harden. His mouth slips down into a frown. “I said, I--”
“--no, no, I heard what you said! It’s that you actually think that’s going to happen.” Kairi’s voice shakes a little. Her hands ball into fists. There’s a tremulous pause in her speech, a moment that teeters on the edge of something, and then it bursts. “Ugh! I was kind enough to let you join me for a few days, but if I’m being honest? I thought it was because of this. I had a gut feeling it was because of some…misguided attempt like this to get me to forgive you for what you did. And I thought, ‘Sure, why not?’ anyway, because that’s what Sora would have done!”
“Kairi--”
“--but everytime I look at you, I get so angry!” Kairi’s voice tilts; it tightens and changes. “I guess that makes me a hypocrite, doesn’t it? I want to be angry at you for kidnapping me, for how you treated Sora, but he isn’t even here right now, after he made himself disappear from saving all of us! From saving me by using the power of waking again, and--!”
“Kairi!”
Kairi’s fist, thrown to the side, knocks against the gummi sheep’s steering. With a violent yank to the right, Kairi and Isa spill over onto the floor and side of the lopsided ship. Kairi’s knee bangs against the other co-pilot chair. Her back crashes against the steel wall of the cockpit siding. With a short cry and hiss, she grabs at her knee with both hands and bows her head over her leg. Her back curls.
After a long moment, Isa slowly rises to his feet first.
He climbs to the steering and sets the gummi ship right side up.
After an even longer moment, Isa walks over to kneel in front of her. “Kairi.”
“…I’m sorry…”
“Kairi.”
Kairi sniffs and blinks up at him. She hates the way her eyes water and the way her lower lip trembles. She hates how tight her chest is. “I’m sorry,” she gasps again and she hates those words but right now, she thinks she hates herself most. “I’m such an idiot. What right do I have to be angry with you anymore when it’s my fault the two most important people to me are gone?”
Isa’s hand falls on hers and gently pries away her hands from her knee. A big, wide bruise is purpling and mottling, forming a cathartic ring of blue-black.
“I think…” Isa begins and gently releases her hands to cast cure over her knee. “…you will find that you and I are more alike than you think.”
Kairi blinks up at Isa.
“It seems we both must learn to forgive ourselves.”
Kairi takes a deep breath in and feels the way her lungs swell with it, with air. For the first time in three days, the knot in her chest finally begins to loosen.
- o - o - o -
“Can you believe it’s already been over a month?”
Kairi winces. Hard.
Ventus straightens up and quickly puts out a hand on her arm. He gives it a gentle squeeze. “Oh, I didn’t mean that in a bad way! Ugh, I’m sorry. I should’ve been more thoughtful…I meant it in like a--”
“--no.” Kairi shakes her head and puts on a brave face. She puts on a good smile and covers his hand with her own. Gently, she pulls it away and sets their hands down on the counter between them. “I know what you mean. You’ve been reunited with your family for over a month now and that’s…really wonderful, Ventus. I’m happy for you. And I know that wherever he is, Sora’s happy, too.”
It’s funny watching the emotions that fly over Ventus’ face at the mention of “family.” He’s so much like Sora and Roxas that way; he wears his heart so visibly. He’s so easy to read.
It is so warm in this kitchen, too, Kairi thinks. So light and airy. Just being here, sitting with friends again after traveling and fighting for so long with no leads, is more rejuvenating than the warm coffee cup she cradles between her hands. Ventus, Aqua, and Terra have done well for themselves, she thinks. They have a lovely epilogue together.
It’ll end soon, she knows. The three have already told her they have plans to help join the search for Sora, intending to dive into the Realm of Darkness as a “just in case.” Just as she has finally decided she intends to take Ansem up on his offer of a year-long sleep so he can study her heart. It’s the most frustrating decision she has ever had to make: to try to help by, of all things, resting, when really she wants to fight, fight, fight--but if something in her slumbering heart holds a key to finding Sora again, well.
She did say she’d do anything.
It’s with an endearing blush that Ventus raises a finger to scratch at his cheek. “Y-yeah. My family…”
Kairi raises an eyebrow. A small smile stretches her face. “What, you don’t agree?”
“What?”
“You wouldn’t call them that?”
“Oh, no, calling them my family’s perfect! I mean, really, Aqua and Terra have always kind of been big siblings to me, so I guess it makes sense. It’s just funny to hear the word out loud and not in my heart, y’know?” Ventus smiles. He looks over Kairi’s shoulder to the trio awkwardly talking beyond them, in the lounge area of their home, however temporary it may be. “But I guess…what else would you call people who have your back no matter the bad you’ve done?”
Kairi thinks about the month she’s spent searching for Sora. She thinks about all the adventures she’s been on, all of the heartless and unversed and nobodies she’s fought. She thinks about the one person who chose to be there through it all, however much she fought him on it at the start.
And for the first time, she thinks maybe Isa really does deserve the keyblade he wields.
Her eyes land on him, frowning and clearly uncomfortable between Aqua and Terra. Isa looks back and meets her eyes in turn with an expression that bends the scar across his face in a pitiful read of, Please. Save me.
Kairi laughs and takes a long, slow sip of her coffee. She raises her other hand to give him a…friendly gesture.
When he raises his hand to give it back, she thinks maybe there’s truth to what Ventus says.

Part [Versus] 13: The Grand Fatality
At first glance, Kingdom Hearts III went about how most people expected it to. Beautiful graphics, fun gameplay, lots of Disney goodness, and a story that was absolute horseshit and nigh impossible to understand but at least was more bearable than Dream Drop Distance. But when you look deeper, you'll find that there are fundamental story problems in this game that go far and beyond anything else in the series.
The game took so long to come out that when it did, it became a natural jumping on point for many new players instead of just an ending to a long-spanning saga. And because the story relies so much upon all the previous games, it constantly takes breaks to go into exposition about things that happened in those installments, and it just feels so awkward and out of place. Riku and Mickey spend a good portion of the game going over things that they already know just to catch new players up to speed.
The story's pacing is among the worst I have ever seen in a video game. I already mentioned earlier that nothing of importance goes down in the Disney worlds, but would you believe that nothing of importance even happens in the periods of time between the Disney world visits as well? Riku and Mickey are dicking around on a search that goes nowhere, while Sora, Donald and Goofy are working on trying to do something that they ultimately play no part in actually accomplishing, and the members of the new Organization XIII just keep talking about what's going to happen during the finale of the game rather than engaging in any active plans in the here and now...or in Ansem's case, he just teases a new story element out of nowhere that is never fully explained and is just set up for future games. There's actually a lot of teasing for the future in this game, which is supposed to be the Dark Seeker Saga's finale. KH2 had way more finality to it than this!
There isn't even a midpoint to the story like there's been in practically every other game. A midpoint and reasons for the main characters to be visiting the Disney worlds was something that even 3D managed to have, and yet this one doesn't! There is a beginning to the story with the trips to Olympus and Twilight Town, and then there's an end from the confrontation with Anti-Aqua and onward. Everything in between is mostly pointless, it's just a bunch of wheel spinning until every resolution to every major hanging plot thread just happens all in succession, usually in the most underwhelming way possible.
And even the game's finale has a needless detour in it! While it's beautifully designed, the Final World has no business being in the story because its presence only happens because of a horribly-written scene where all the heroes behave like idiots and die. It really feels like it was just made for trailer shots that make the situation look hopeless, because it's reversed almost as quickly as it happens. They credit Kairi for this, but she didn't actually do anything other than believe in Sora really hard which is what kept him from dying in a forced retread of the original KH, except that back then Kairi had to make actual choices and take actual action to bring Sora back.
Kairi is honestly the worst treated character in this game. Not only did they learn nothing from KH2 in regards how to pace her appearances since they're paced the same way here, but all personality is sucked out of her, turning her into even more of just a basic love interest. She's three-dimensional in KH1, two-dimensional in KH2, and one-dimensional in KH3! Her design isn't as good as previous ones, facial animation for her is almost non-existent, Alyson Stoner's voice-acting is tepid, and she contributes nothing to the story. She trains as a Keyblade wielder alongside her former kidnapper Axel, is made to service him and his development rather than having any of her own, then shares a paopu fruit with Sora out of fucking nowhere (Sora’s never spoken to or about her since “Blank Points”!), freezes up like an idiot when faced with Terra-Xehanort, dies but is brought back due to that "belief" thing, fights Xion and Saix as a party member for literally one minute before she gets knocked down and then kidnapped by Xemnas, and then Master Xehanort gives her a second death in order to provide Sora with "motivation". In other words, she gets stuffed into the fridge (look it up).  Sora brings her back to life offscreen, but he fades away as a result of this due to the nebulous rules of the Power of Waking, and that's where the game just ends: with everyone getting a conclusive happy ending except for the main character and his love interest.
And I know that I already mentioned how Kairi was done dirty by the series in order to pander to the worst kinds of fans, but this time it just feels downright mean-spirited. Since the secret ending of 3D in 2012, Kairi was being hyped as someone who would finally become an active combatant, a Keyblade wielder who could be a party member or maybe even playable. And then when the time to pay that off finally comes, it's the exact opposite outcome, with Kairi being portrayed as every bit as useless as her haters always said she was, and then dying. Oh, and her murderer gets to go to Heaven. No joke, that's how Master Xehanort is sent off: his heart is cleansed by Eraqus and they go off to Heaven together, arm in arm. It's the natural culmination of Nomura's creepy favoritism toward this character, and his blatant disdain for Kairi.
But perhaps the worst part of KH3 in regards to the series going forward is something that seemed to be a joke in the Toy Story world: Verum Rex. You see, for almost the entirety of the time between KH2's release and KH3's, Nomura was at work on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, a spin-off of Final Fantasy XIII that was to branch out into its own series and featured action RPG gameplay like the KH series. But Nomura and his team was so incompetent that they ended up putting the game into Development Hell, so Square revamped it as Final Fantasy XV in 2012 and then kicked Nomura off two years later, replacing him completely with Hajime Tabata. And I can't blame them, Nomura was stalling even the revamped game with proposals like turning into a musical after he watched Les Miserables. Yes, that seriously happened.
Nomura put in so much into Versus XIII that he could not let it go, and so what initially appeared to be a tongue-in-cheek parody of it called Verum Rex in the Toy Story world turned out to be quite serious, as the game's secret ending FMV revealed Sora and Riku in a Shinjuku-inspired city like Versus XIII's Insomnia, with Verum Rex's Noctis-expy of a main character, Yozora, watching from atop a building, and the Master of Masters atop another. The next stage for the KH series is thus, basically, Final Fantasy Versus XIII reborn. Not content with using the series as an outlet for his shonen manga-ka fantasies, Nomura is now using it as a do-over for a game he screwed up and has only himself to blame for its cancellation.
At the risk of my repeating myself: this series started out as a whimsical crossover between Disney and Square, a series of Final Fantasy-style JRPGs set within the world of Disney. Now it's being turned into quite literally a Final Fantasy clone.

Hey, im just trying to read through alot of your debunking stuff, you mentioned in one of them how they completely misrepresnt and get Riku's character wrong. Could you maybe expand on that and why you think they misintepret their own personal Jesus?
I’ve actually already talked about a few of these in other asks!
Here’s where I talk a bit about how I think that they get the evolution of Riku’s promise wrong. It’s not about Riku coming to understand that he has one, true person that he cares about, but about him growing a sense of empathy for people that he barely even knows (also includes parts of his relationship with Kairi that I think they’re wrong about)
I’ve also talked about how, while Riku may be a well-meaning guy, he’s absolutely terrible at expressing himself and has a tendency to accidentally put others down. He’s not suave, he doesn’t have all the answers, and he’s just as prone to mistakes that hurt others as anyone else
I think the biggest problem I have with the theory’s characterization of Riku is that it fails to acknowledge how he was in KH1 (and CoM and Days to an extent) in any capacity. Now, granted, I haven’t read the “Riku is the Light” section yet, which is where I imagine that most of this would be
But Riku was an asshole in KH1. Like, a huge dick. Sora’s shown being buddy-buddy with the other island kids, but Riku keeps to just himself, Sora, and Kairi. He’s ambitious and kinda selfish. He actively flings their entire island into the Darkness just to escape it and only really cares about taking Sora and Kairi with him. He doesn’t really care about his parents or even how his best friends would care about leaving theirs. And when he’s forced to live with the consequences, he hates it. He hates that Kairi lost her heart because he opened the door, he hates that Sora’s the one who got the Keyblade from it, and he hates that Sora made new friends while he was stranded and his jealousy over that leads him to jump deeper and deeper into the Darkness in an effort to get what he wants out of his actions
Because by that point he still hadn’t learned his lesson. He still doesn’t believe that he was wrong; that it was just circumstance that hurt Kairi and Sora who betrayed him. And he keeps being like that until his desperation to be right and do right by himself leads to him allowing Ansem to possess him and then he’s forced to watch in horror as Ansem uses his body to take it too far
From that point on, he does everything in his power to really make it right. And Mickey is the biggest part of that. When Riku gets kicked out of his body it’s Mickey who offers a way to make it up to everyone. It’s Mickey who stays with him until DiZ pulls him out of the Realm of Darkness and it’s Mickey who keeps sending Riku magic projections from the Realm of Darkness to help guide him on the path of redemption while Riku struggles with the remnants of Ansem. It helps no one to ignore how central Mickey is to Riku’s development (and also how much Riku effected Mickey, like his views on Darkness)! Mickey offered Riku support when Riku was at his lowest. There’s absolutely no way that Riku doesn’t deeply love Mickey like an apprentice would their master or like the weird mouse adoptive father he never expected (there’s a reason that it’s Mickey who runs to him at the end of KH2 while Donald and Goofy run at Sora)
His relationship with Mickey also shows how far he’s come from KH1. He was jealous of Sora’s relationship with Donald and Goofy because he thought it was “replacing him.” Now he can respect that you can love your new friends as much as you do your old ones
He also gets very self-sacrificial. Once he meets up with Mickey at the end of KH1 and realizes what he did wrong, he sacrifices himself for both of his best friends. It shows that he’s already come a long way from when he forced them to lose their home and families at the beginning of KH1. Now his actions are bringing them back. This escalates, though, at the end of Days when he forces himself into Ansem’s form just to wake Sora up. And since Sora’s awakening comes at the expense of Roxas and Xion’s lives, it reinforces the self-centered “only the people that I care about are worth saving” thing, though he’s lighter on it now. He ends up letting Xion choose on her own, though he still does his damnedest to convince her to merge with Sora. He expresses regret over what they’re doing to Roxas. But they still aren’t Sora, so he doesn’t choose them
Being forgiven by Sora and Kairi in KH2 is the big turning point for him. It’s the first time they’re all together again since just before Destiny Islands fell. He hasn’t had the chance to see what they really think of him and what he’s done yet and he avoids them because he didn’t feel like he’d made it up to them yet. Hadn’t sacrificed enough to make everything what it was again. And now here they are telling him that he doesn’t have to hurt himself for them. They just want him home with them
And now that they’ve forgiven him, he just has to forgive himself. That’s what his story in DDD is. He’s spent a year struggling to get rid of his darkness, the biggest sign of his failures in KH1. He only regained his real form again on a fluke due to Ansem the Wise’s machine. He hasn’t done anything to prove to himself that he’s been redeemed. And then he does. He saves Sora without having to sacrifice anyone to do it, he’s named a master, and he’s told point-blank that the darkness can’t hurt him anymore by the guy who used it the first time around. He’s finally the best version of himself
And I think that’s why he’s kinda flat in KH3. He’s already gone through this grand, sweeping arc and all that’s left to do is rescue the people who helped him get there, like Aqua and Terra. Aqua’s someone he feels especially indebted to
So overall, Riku went from extremely cocky to self-deprecating to genuinely humble that occasionally lapses into “pulling rank” because he’s still very protective of others and has only just come out of the mindset of “I can’t make it up to them if I don’t sacrifice enough for them.” He’s willing to make those sacrifices if he has to, but now he doesn’t feel like it’s the only way to do right. And he’s come to respect others outside of himself. Hell, you could argue that he didn’t respect Sora at all in KH1 and that there’s a side-arc of him doing so in KH2 and KH3, though he never gets over his protector nature with him. Riku’s expanded the love he’s able to give and come to appreciate who he’s become
He’s not perfect. But he tries. He still gets in his own head too much and ends up hurting others because of it, but he never blames them for it anymore. And that’s just… my thoughts on Riku. He’s a guy that struggled, a guy that still makes mistakes, but a guy who’s come a long way from the self-centered idiot who destroyed his home

Not good enough?
Chapter 2: Destiny
Ao3
A few days passed since Sora brought Kairi home and his life changed for the better. He managed to talk with her a few more times. Maybe it wasn’t much, but it’s more than Sora could dream of. If anyone asked him, he’d gladly listen to Kairis beautiful voice for years.
The only thing that changed for the worst was Rikus persistence to try and persuade him to just confess his feelings to her. Of course he would never do such a thing, though. Kairi was too pure for anyone. If he could just be her friend, then his life was already perfect.
But sadly some guys didn’t think like him...One day Sora and Riku find Kairi being cornered by Seifer. The second he saw that Kairis uncomfortable with him being so close and said that she didn’t wanna go out with him, he ran over to them and pushed Seifer away, standing protectively in front of Kairi. “Hey, what’s your problem?!” Hissed Seifer, while Sora replied in the same manner. “What’s yours? She said she doesn’t wanna do anything with you. Why don’t you just leave?”
“Why don’t you leave, pipsqueak?” Sora gritted his teeth at the name. He may be a bit smaller than him, but he was surely stronger than him if they fought. After all he had Riku as a best friend. His rage vanished, though, when he felt Kairi holding onto his arm. He looked at her over his shoulder and she returned his gaze pleadingly as if she told him not to get into a fight. She was right actually. He didn’t want to get in trouble because of him.
“I might as well do. Then I don’t have to look at you anymore.” Then he turned back to Kairi. “I’ll bring you to your class, okay?” Kairi nodded, but then her eyes widened at something behind him. “Sora!” He could barely turn around when he suddenly felt a fist colliding with his cheek. Sora fell to the ground and the only good thing was that Kairi was right at his side and was very worried about him. “Are you okay?” Asked the redhead, while he just nodded and got back up.
Sora was about to attack Seifer right back, but a hand on his shoulder and one on his arm held him back. Looking back, he noticed that it was Riku and Kairi who held him back. Before he could do anything about it principal Ansem suddenly appeared, eyeing the two. “Seifer, in my office.” This and a stern glare was enough to let everyone shudder, even Seifer, who followed him silently.
“You did really good, Sora.” Complimented Riku, making the younger boy grin. “Well, it could’ve gone better.” Sora chuckled, but he instantly went silent when a hand of a certain redhead cupped his face. He even got the best close up view on a pair of crystal blue eyes ever. His whole face turned red and with her hand on the spot Seifer’s hit him, he also totally forgot the pain.
“Are you okay? I’m sorry, this is all my fault!” Sora had to swallow a thick lump that stuck in his throat before he was able to talk. “No, don’t say that. It’s not your fault. You haven’t done anything wrong.” It was amazing that Sora didn’t stutter this time, even though Kairi’s still holding his cheek. Maybe he became braver around her.
“Are you sure? Your cheek’s really red...” Said Kairi worried. At that Sora could feel his face heating up even more. In one hand Kairi’s worry about him made his heart swell, but on the other slightly break because he didn’t want to worry her. His feelings were so crazily controversial...Swallowing again, he could finally muster the courage to reach up to her hand and take it.
Instead of making her let go of his face, though, his hand stuck there, holding hers that held his cheek. And so they stood like this for what felt like hours. As he stared into her big blue eyes he wanted nothing more than to lean in and kiss her. But he quickly reminded himself where they were and did what he first intended to do. He took his hand from his face and then let go of her. “I-it’s fine...It bar-barely hurts.” He said, grinning widely but even he knew that it must look like the most fake grin ever. His nervous chuckle didn’t help either...
Reaching blindly next to him, his shaky hand eventually made contact with Rikus shoulder. “L-let’s go, Riku. W-we’re getting l-late.” He stuttered, before pushing him forward and following him, only now breaking eye-contact with the redhead.
“You know how obvious you are, right?” Asked Riku, but the brunette didn’t answer. Of course he knew! Most of the times he could play things cool when it came to her —or at least he hoped so— but right now...He was staring at her for way too long! And he was holding her hand! No, that was unforgivable! “Just tell her you like her.”
Sora just shook his head silently. He couldn’t tell her. Kairi deserved someone better. He just wished his heart would think like that too...It was okay like this. It had to be. But imagining Kairi with someone else...hurt. “See you later.” He eventually said, when they had to part ways. Riku sighed, looking worried but waved him good-bye.
----
Back in class Sora put his head over his crossed arms on the table. He felt so bad, even though he just saved Kairi. The boy sighed, before feeling someone sitting next to him at his table. Glancing at his left, he nearly fell off the chair with shock. Kairi sat down on the normally empty chair beside him! Kairi smiled at him, while Sora quickly looked down at the table, blushing. Right they had class together...But why did she decide to sit next to him?
He wasn’t able to concentrate at all when the lesson began. The whole time he stared straight ahead, but his mind was in the clouds. Sora jumped slightly when he felt something brush his arm. Looking down, he saw a little note that Kairi discretely pushed towards him. ‘You okay?’ it said. He wrote down his answer, before pushing it back to her. ‘Yeah’
The note was back in a second. ‘Thanks for saving me back there’
Sora smiled slightly. ‘No need to thank me’
‘You sure it doesn’t hurt?’
‘I’m fine :)’
The little conversation stopped then and Sora couldn’t help but feel a bit better. At least now he could hear what their teacher was saying to them. About half way through class, Sora felt the little note being pushed over to him again. ‘Is it okay if I eat lunch with you guys?’
Today really wasn’t a good day for Soras poor heart...Blushing again, he wrote his answer and gave it back to her. ‘What about Hayner, Pence and Olette?’
‘They’ll be fine without me :)’
‘Okay’ Now Sora couldn’t wait till this class was finally over. His motivation from before was now completely gone. He just wanted it to end right now so that they could eat together!
-----
Once class was finally over, Sora and Kairi went to the canteen together and met Riku there. He looked at them with a raised eyebrow when they sat down with their food. “Did I miss something?”
“Uh, no? No, I don’t think so.” Said Sora nervously, looking anywhere but at him or Kairi. “I hope I’m not intruding.” Sora and Riku both looked at Kairi and talked simultaneously. “Of course you’re not intruding.”
“You’re always welcome.” Added the older boy, before taking the first bite of his lunch. “I was just surprised to see you together.” Sora blushed, thinking of another kind of together. “Well, you guys helped me a lot lately. And I hoped...maybe we could be friends, too?” Sora’s heart beat incredibly fast at that. If he could he’d jump from his seat and thank god for this miracle. “Yes!” He practically yelled, earning surprised looks from Kairi and Riku. “Uh, I mean...Yeah, sure. Let’s be friends!”
The redhead giggled at his enthusiasm, making his heart swell with joy and Riku gave him a suspicious look that he rather ignored. Sora grinned from ear to ear and he felt extremely jittery. This was by far the best day of his life!
----
Since that day Sora’s been hanging out with Riku and Kairi almost every day. A few weeks have past, but he still couldn’t believe that he’s actually Kairis friend! The only ‘bad’ thing about it was that he fell for her more and more every day. And the ‘worst’ thing was that he almost really confessed to her in hopes that they could be together. Thankfully he could always pull himself together and redirect their conversation to something else.
“Tell her.” Urged Riku for the umpteenth time. Kairi had to leave early that day and so Riku and Sora were left behind. “No.”
“Why not?” The spikey-haired boy sighed loudly. “I can’t...” Both boys went silent then. It was okay like this. It’s okay. Being friends was totally okay. It had to be. “Kairi...deserves someone better than me, Riku. Someone who can protect her. Someone...”
“Like you?” Asked Riku, but Sora shook his head. “No, aren’t you listening?”
“I am. But all I hear is that you love Kairi to death and every time you’re together you practically fulfill her every wish, you treat her like a princess. Who could be better for her than you?” Riku may be right with that but it didn’t lift his spirits. “I don’t think I’m good enough...” Sora mumbled.
“Maybe you’re right.” Said Riku suddenly. Sora looked up at him and felt a pang in his chest. “You always give too much and never take.” The younger boy frowned. “Kairi wants to give you just as much as you give her, but you won’t let her.”
“I-it’s because she doesn’t have to give me anything!”
“Or are you afraid? Maybe Kairi’s really better off with someone else.” Sora glared at his so called best friend. “Oh yeah? Well, you’re wrong! I’ll show you! I’ll—!” The brunette stopped abruptly, going through their ‘fight’ again. Looking up, he saw Riku smiling mischievously and then they started laughing. “You idiot!”
“No, you are. So what are you gonna do now?” Asked Riku when their laughter slowly died down. Sora took some time to think, before answering hesitantly. “Maybe I’ll tell her. No...I will.”
Actually Sora wanted to tell Kairi as soon as possible, but the next time they met, he ended up chickening out. Actually it happened quite a lot. He was not just afraid that she might not like him back, but he also feared that he’s gonna destroy their friendship because of that. What if it’ll make her uncomfortable?
“Okay, what’s wrong?” Sora snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Kairi’s voice. They’ve decided to go to the little island and now they sat on the docks, looking peacefully at the sunset. “You’re acting really strange lately. Did something happen?”
“Not yet. Uh, I mean...not really. I mean...no.” The redhead raised an eyebrow at him, while Sora avoided her gaze. “H-hey, you know what they say about the paopu fruit? That if you share it with someone their destinies intertwine?” Sora had no idea why he’s talking about that, but maybe it was a good start. “Yeah, I’ve heard it.” Replied Kairi, obviously confused at why he picked this subject.
“Did you...ever want to try it?” Kairi took some time to think and while she did Sora tried to calm his racing heart. “Yes. But I didn’t have someone special to me to do it with.” Well, that’s good, right? “Why do you ask?”
“Oh uh...I was just curious.” Sora really had to stop stalling. If he kept this up then his heart will eventually kill him from beating to fast...”Listen, Kairi. I...have to tell you something really important. But...You need to promise me something first.” Sora looked at her pleadingly, while Kairi just nodded and waited for him to continue. “Promise that we stay friends.” Now she was extremely confused. “I promise.”
Sora nodded and tried to find the right words. “Kairi, I...” Not being able to look into her eyes, he shut them tightly and just blurted it out. “I love you, Kairi!” He kept his eyes close, the only sound he heart was the rapidly beating of his heart. Sora didn’t know how long he waited for an answer, but he eventually found himself in Kairi’s arms.
The spikey-haired boy found himself blushing a deep red, when he felt Kair’s arms around him and her head lying on his shoulder. He was quite sure that Kairi could hear —maybe even feel— his heart beating fast against his ribcage, but he was to shocked to move a muscle, he even held his breath.
“I love you, too, Sora.” She said right next to his ear. Her breath against his skin made him shudder and if his heart was a grenade it would’ve exploded right this instant. Sora could practically feel her light enveloping him. He hugged her back then, feeling his eyes water. Okay, this was the best day of his life. “Kairi...” He mumbled, burying his face in the crook of her neck and let his tears go.
“I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you.” Sora couldn’t help but say it again and again. He really wanted Kairi to understand how big his feelings for her were. It seemed like Kairi noticed him crying, because one hand began to rub his back and the other went up to the back of his head and tried to comfort him. He couldn’t help it, though, he was so happy.
“So...Does that mean you wanna share a paopu with me?” Asked Kairi, when he finally began to calm down again. Sora nodded his head against her neck. “More than anything.” They reluctantly let go of each other and Sora rubbed all the tears off. “Sorry.” He said, seeing the wet spot on her clothes. “It’s okay.” Kairi smiled sweetly and Sora returned it with a grin, his teary eyes glinting with joy. “Well, what are we waiting for?” The redhead stood up and held her hand out to him. He took it and stood up with her help. As they went hand in hand to the paopu tree, Sora couldn’t stop smiling. He may have his faults, but maybe he was good enough to be with Kairi after all.

6: There were still a lot of things I wanted to talk about. It would be nice if they called me next year too. :-)
5: The next “Twelve Hits!” is Riku-kun’s turn huh.

7: I-I know that...!
6: It’s fine, Riku. Take a deep breath and relax, everything will go well.

T: What does Nagi-san think now that the broadcast is over?
6: Certainly, just one broadcast wasn’t enough! I came up with things that I want to try on the radio, so I’ll talk to Riku about that.
