Ross Andru is one of my favorite Spider-Man artists because he was uniquely focused on making New York a real place. This time he went too far by drawing an actual house in Near Rockaway as the home of a supervillain. The actual owner threatened to sue Marvel after kids kept coming around looking for the Mindworm.
Some great research has been done ^^^ to find the house in question in old photos.
If you look at the 1940s photo on the left you can see it's clearly has neighbors but the 1975 photo (a year after the comic) the whole area is empty. This is where we get into NYC's long history of turning Rockaway into slums post WWII and then using urban renewal as an excuse to bulldoze neighborhoods and replace them with high rise project housing.
There's a deep history surrounding that single holdout house in 1974.
