I'm absolutely going to be rewatching v9 cause of it being now on the RT site and me wanting to put whatever extra numbers to it there as I can; but had to skip first to the bonus episode cause ofc I did.

Spoilers below the cut

Love Eddy saying that some of the footage will show up in v10, like ofc I don't know when this was recorded but it reinforces that they're still fighting to keep the show going

Love that the bonus goes across multiple pov's not just one or two

Anyone having doubts on if CFVY would show up, can now rest easy cause they definitely do along with at least Sun & Neptune

Neon confirmed alive o.o

I wish I could pop into the universe to tell Nora her scars are badass >.< I hate the idea of her seeing them as a disfigurement and hope that Ren is pushing her that direction too.

So even Oz has no clue about the Ever After and likely that the Brothers aren't actual the true deities of the overall omniverse. Not to mention getting the impression that he's about as knowing about what the Relics do as everyone else is. Which shoots down many b.s. notions of what he could do to stop Salem. I'd even have doubts on him knowing how the Vaults work.

So the issues between Atlas and Vacuo definitely would be in place (likely including faunus), but on top of that Ozcar fighting the merge.

Ren respecting Jaune and looking up to him even is definitely nice given the backdrop of his words back in v8. Not to mention them doing more showing of his semblance.

Weirdly like the awkwardness between Renora, because of the realness of what they're navigating and that it was something that the writers plan to explore.

Mercury and Tyrian stirring up shit w/ Tyrian being batshit insane as per usual and Mercury being clearly out of his comfort zone

Confirmation that all of SSSN are planned to be in Vacuo, which means there could be Nolan/Scarlet scenes

Seriously Port and Oobleck are like unofficial husbands at this point, wherever one is the other is usually around too xD

My OTP for Willow is Klein, ngl I could support Qrow and her too (especially since ages would be fine), but that look when Klein arrives in the shuttle really sends me back to Willow/Klein xD

God the ["What? How?" -Ruby looking at the flying armada "You sent a message and the world answered." -Qrow] will always hit me in the feels and get watery eyes. Part of that being Jason's performance and only he could do that with his more emotional voicing for Qrow.

Rogue Trader - Act 3 - Spoiler! - Heinrix + companions

Spoilers regarding act 3 especially for the main quest + Heinrix / Achilleas / Argenta and Marazhai (without Yrliet recruited).

In Commoragh

It is possible to get Heinrix (or Cassia) after the first arena fight - you just need to speak with Tervantias and ask about your companions and that you want him to release them. He will only release one - so you can free Heinrix or Cassia but not both at this time.

It does not always work - I think if you have two companions (Heinrix and Cassia) captive at this part of the area you get the dialog, if you only have one of them then likely not (I guess they do not want you to get everyone back directly).

Heinrix and Achilleas

If you do not recruit Yrliet it will be Achilleas who leads you to the trap.

In Commoragh, if you get Heinrix and then speak with the "Wrack" guardian at the entry to the anatomical opera you will find out that this is Achilleas.

Unfortunately there is no further interaction between both, for example when you let Achilleas live for now and meet him later (before the last figth in the arena) - you can then mercy kill him or leave him behind or actually tell him to get back to the realspace/expanse with you. He will then be present for the next arena fight and in the area after that.

Afterwards, you can ask the Harlequin to take him to realspace.

I wouldn't recommend it though as he is mentioned in the ending slides but it isn't a happy fate for him.

Freeing Cassia

Heinrix will warn you when you are freeing Cassia (she is about to open her third eye...)

Heinrix and Argenta

When Argenta confesses, he just nods and then says the RT is the one who should trial her.

Heinrix and Marazhai (no Yrliet present)

This is the version without Yrliet but with Marazhai in the party/present if you free Heinrix

After the second arena fight your dogmatic companions (Argenta/Ulfar/Heinrix) will ambush Marazhai.

You can side with them and kill Marazhai (no actual fight, he is just gone then)

or ask them to stop.

If stopped, you can ask Heinrix about the Xenos presence (it is voiced):

There isn't much else interaction (compared to Yrliet present).

On your way out you will get a short dialog with Marazhai regarding the torture equipment/surrounding in the area and a reaction from Heinrix.

There is no end confrontation between Heinrix and Marazhai. Mandrakes show up and want Marazhai and you can give Marazahi to them or kill him directly or go with Marazhai through the webway.

When you return to the ship there is also no dialog / confrontation with your companions regarding Marazhai (compared to Yrliet).

Here is Heinrix (voiced) reaction if you give him Marazhai after your return:

Fluff Headcanons - Spooky gaming with the genshin characters!

A/N: The fluff version of the Halloween special, and a bit of a new format. I hope you enjoy!

C/W: Modern AU, swearing, game-typical violence.

Alhaitham

This year, Alhaitham wanted something less conventional. Something that would really engage his mind with interesting commentary about society and the world at large, but still retain some of that spooky vibe.

Cruelty Squad easily caught his attention with its assaulting graphics and interesting premise. It clearly begged for attention, and he was willing to humor it.

It was precisely what he was looking for, and what an answer it was. Alhaitham had no trouble adjusting to a more corporate mindset.

Alhaitham: The super AI emerges from an extremely pornographic ultra hyper suck and fuck…

Kaveh: Um… What? What are you talking about?

Alhaitham: You don't understand, Kaveh. Everything that surrounds us? It's Gorbino's Quest. The Gorbino's Quest... of life.

Ganyu

The poor little cinnamon roll isn't that much of a horror fan. Violence and death generally unsettles her, but Ganyu still wants to feel some of that holiday spirit.

After a lengthy deliberation, Ganyu chose Little Nightmares. The graphics are quite pleasing to the eye, it is horror, but not so horrible and violent. At least that's what she heard.

Ganyu: Oh, look! It's a Nome, right? And it's offering me food… How nice of it! Um… Oh n-no! Why would you d-do that?!

Amber

The great outdoors with a horror theme? Count her in!

Amber made sure to avoid spoilers to have the full, unprecedented The Forest experience. The landscape is so serene and peaceful… The freedom of movement, the sounds of nature and the survival elements are so fun and relaxing!

True, there are some hostile people on the island, but they seem harmless enough.

Until the night falls…

Amber: Wait… What's that? That doesn't look human… Did it just birth out… Ew… Yikes! It's coming at me!

Suffice to say, Amber stuck around until more or less the moment when you have to chop up bodies and make effigies out of the parts.

Beidou

Alcohol, hard rock and murdering demons with big guns is how Beidou plays on Halloween, so she'll gladly hop on Doom Eternal.

There's nothing better than impaling a snake demon's head with its own broken arm, right as the beat drops.

Beidou: Life has enough undefeatable horrors. Let's just have some fun tonight!

Ningguang

The old ones are the good ones! Ningguang doesn't play a lot of video games, but she did like a few titles back in her younger days.

On this special occasion, Ningguang got a box of her old possessions to dig through, and found the original Dungeon Keeper on CD.

Everything is just as she remembered it was.

Ningguang: Oh, these imps… They are the perfect workers, aren't they? They don't eat, sleep, need vacation, have a social life, and they work harder when you slap them. Ah, if only I had them as my subordinates…

Keqing: *narrows eyes*

Kokomi

Another fan of the retro side of games, Kokomi enjoys a good tactical challenge - developing the ability to conjure small scale plans is as important as improving the grand ones.

Her pick is Myth II: Soulblighter. It’s a brutal, unforgiving RTS with a distinctively dark atmosphere - just perfect for the season at hand.

Even when Halloween comes to a close, Kokomi will find it hard to drop the game. The insanity that is Legendary is quite addictive indeed…

Kokomi: You here… You here… And now the crescendo!

Game: “Move here move there…”

Game: “Catch!”

Game: *explosion*

Game: “Casualty.”

Kokomi: Oh. Change of plans, I guess…

Yae Miko

Upon hearing of the wonderful possibilities for tormenting the other party, Miko didn't hesitate to bring out the Mora for Dead By Daylight and all of its DLC.

Though it was quite fun at first, the ugly nature of the game soon surfaced. As none of her friends were brave enough to delve into this swamp, she was forced to join up with random people, who frequently threw the games.

Such a combination was enough to make even such an ancient and wise kitsune lose her absolute cool.

Ei: Why are you crouching behind that tree, Miko?

Miko: The killer has caught one of my teammates, and I will release them by ambushing them with a flashlight!

Miko: Come on… Now! You didn't expect that, did y- What?? Lightborn?! Again?! Who even plays it nowadays?! Oh, you daft, blind motherf-

Ei: Miko!

Miko: Oh… Hm. Sorry. I got a little carried away. But that's sooo unfair, isn't it? Why would they add a perk that cancels a whole mechanic? I can't believeitthegameissokillersided…

Xiangling

Xiangling absolutely didn't look forward to Halloween, especially with Hu Tao around. She just can't take horror, at all, of any kind, ever. Especially jumpscares.

She still couldn't believe that she agreed to play a horror game, let alone one suggested by the director. The one and only Five Nights At Freddy's at that.

Much to Hu Tao's amusement, she didn't even make it past Night 1. Xiangling was thoroughly spooked, and after being jumpscared once she completely refused to keep playing.

Seeing Xiangling so terrified made Guoba very upset, and Hu Tao quickly apologized to avoid being roasted by the angry god.

Hu Tao: So he killed the kids, but then! Their souls escaped their robot prisons and made an old spring lock suit crush him to death! WoOoo~

Xiangling: Ah! Hu Tao! No more!

Guoba: Nane na! Grr…

Hu Tao: Oh, don't fret little Guoba! I'm just joking!

Zhongli

Morax always had trouble catching up with the latest cultural and technological trends of the humans. Sure, he can use a computer more than well enough, but he finds third and first person video games confusing. The gameplay is most often too fast and rapidly changing for him to be up to speed with it, let alone enjoy it.

Throughout all of his exponentially long life, nobody was as persistent in including him in the festivities as Hu Tao. She tried to convince Zhongli to play something horror-related, but he was assertive. So, the director decided to find a game that would suit his liking - an indie title.

Her pick fell on Water Womb World - it's simple mechanically, is quite disturbing and has an interesting concept.

Much to her surprise, Zhongli thoroughly enjoyed his fifteen minutes with the game, even if he didn't find it very scary.

Zhongli: Ah, I agree with the message of this title. The blind belief in deities can lead to fanaticism, which breeds regress rather than progress. I do think that a more healthy and critical approach to Rex Lapis' rule would be beneficial to our current day society. Especially that the age of gods draws to an end…

Hu Tao: Aiya! Do you have to turn everything into a lecture, Zhongli? You're not my grandpa, are you?

Hu Tao

An avid enjoyer of the spookfest, Hu Tao decided to pick something hitting closer to home this year - Mortuary Assistant.

The gameplay loop feels great! Just like in her line of work, just without the smell. She's having the time of her life preparing the corpse for burial. And hunting the demon. That's also quite cool!

Hu Tao: *hums while wheeling the corpse into the crematory*

Game: "Are you sure?"

Hu Tao: Yup! I know your tricks more than well. Aiyaya, you could try something more interesting next round! Furnace time~

Game: *sounds of fire and demonic screaming*

Hu Tao: Toodle-oo~

Bennet, Noelle, Fischl, Razor

A few weeks before Halloween, Bennett mentioned a game night, since he couldn't be there in person. Noelle, diligent as ever, picked this up as a cue to start looking for something.

Luckily for her, Phasmophobia was on a large and affordable discount, so after proposing the idea and organizing a money pool, they all got to proving the existence of ghosts.

Lisa lent Razor her personal computer for the night, on condition that she could take a little peek every now and then at their session without interrupting - and what an amusement it was, as none of them are especially acquainted with horror.

Noelle: "The ghost responds only to people who are alone." Somebody has to go in to talk to it…

Razor: Razor won't go! Ghost scary!

Bennett: I would go, but with my luck, the ghost will eat me right away…

Fischl: Hmph! Although yes, I, Fischl, The Prinzessin Der Verurteilung and the founder of The Immernatchreich possess the courage to face demons and spawns of darkness alike, I…

Everyone: So you'll go then?

Amy: Um… N-no! You m-misunderstood!

Furina

The Great-And-Grand Archon of Fontaine played and saw every horror game and movie, and never once got scared. Or that's what she claims, at least.

That's why Focalors decided to prove her excellence with a true, dark challenge she could easily overcome, thus proving her gaming capabilities for all to see!

In hindsight, Darkest Dungeon wasn't the best of choices she could have made… It did amuse Monsieur Neuvilette, however.

Neuvillette: I think you should retreat. Your heroes are close to dying.

Furina: I appreciate your advice, my dear Iudex, but your worries are misplaced! My Crusader will deal a critical hit, thus ending the pig-man's miserable opposition, and granting us treasure galore! Watch and marvel at my skill!

Game: "A singular strike!"

Furina: Ahaha, see? I told you it would be fine~ Wait… It's not dead yet…?

Game: "Mortality - clarified in a single strike!"

Furina: Um…

Game: "There can be no hope in this hell, no hope at all…"

Game: "And now the true test - hold fast, or expire."

Game: "Those who cover injury find it in no short supply."

Game: "As life ebbs, terrible vistas of emptiness reveal themselves."

Furina: Ret- T-tactical withdrawal!

Game: "Cornered, trapped, forced to fight on!"

Game: "This is no place for the weak, or the foolhardy."

Game: "More dust, more ashes, more disappointment."

Neuvillette: Lady Furina, if only you had-

Furina: Silence.

Shenhe

Shenhe never gets scared. The most terrible of monsters or existential terrors are no match for her training and resolve, no matter how unexpected they might be. She might not get scared, but she can get startled, right?

Who else would pose that question but Hu Tao, the mistress of horrors herself? It was always her objective to get some sort of reaction out of the adepti disciple, no matter how insignificant and small it might be. Many things were attempted - scary movies, troubling situations, body horror, cosmic horror, existential horror… But none of them ever worked. Shenhe remained stalwart.

Out of desperation, Hu Tao was forced to reach for the ultimate weapon. The bane of those unprepared. The myth. The legend. The game.

The Scary Maze Game.

After plugging in an old spare monitor, she invited Shenhe to “test her precision”, and stepped a few safe meters back.

The monitor ended up skewered with her polearm, but Shenhe did yelp - much to her delight.

Not all was fun and games though, as Hu Tao got the mother of all lectures from Cloud Retainer. Something about Shenhe’s red ropes breaking, but the director didn’t pay much attention, and just nodded along.

Hu Tao: Heya, Shenhe… You don’t mind the little scare I gave you back on Halloween night, do you…?

Shenhe: Oh? Well, as much as I was upset during the moment, I must admit it was quite… cathartic. I never experienced anything like that. I do not hold any grudge towards you. Actually… Thank you for that, director Hu Tao.

Hu Tao: Phew! And I was here thinking I’ll share the fate of that display!

Ok do I’ve rewatched s5 e1 a couple times and here are my thoughts (spoilers duh)

- The quality of the animation is incredible!!! I’m especially loving the little sound effects and little lines they do for movement!

- WE WERE RIGHT??? CJ IS CAMBRLLS SON?? BRO I DIDNT EXPECT IT TO ACTUALLY HAPPEN LIKE WHATTTT

- in my opinion, there should’ve been more to the episode, I know it’s the first ep of the season or wtvr but it still seemed like there was something missing

- CJ is such an insane character, blud is anti vaccine, doesn’t belive in climate change, doesn’t use sunscreen, and has LIZARD eye drops?? the one thing is his character design, it’s so bad dawg like what, but he is funny as hell

- GWEN!!!! I’m so glad my girl is back you guys don’t understand. I’m not the biggest fan of her outfit but it looks good!! I’m very excited to see the dynamic between her and CJ, as he is her replacement

- I honestly though we were gonna see a lot more David and dadvid content, but I guess I’ll have to wait for the next eps to come out

- when David finds out CJ is Cameron’s son, I really want him to get pissed at him for it and to see David be angry as fuck whenever he sees him, I think id be funny

Not exactly related but I am really pissed off that we have to PAY to see the next episodes. And it’s not like non paying watchers can view the eps after paying ones as far as I know, real stupid fucking decision rt.

so i finally unlocked xavier'a 2nd anecdote, and it's so sad??? like so fucking sorrowful and the angst???

i mean, i was already spoiled about it cuz my sister saw a tiktok about it and she told me but the writing??? that, i did not expect omg

so xavier is definitely really old lmao. i didn't expect it to be told in mc's pov so i was expecting it to be jeremiah or some other person xavier knows but i'm definitely not complaining.

i expected that the 'mc dying in xavier's arms' moment to be in his 3rd anecdote so i was surprised

[edit (10 Feb 2024): the anecdotes apparently switch places when one gets unlocked lmao. so this is actually his 3rd anecdote and it just became the 2nd one because i unlocked it first. sorry for the confusion TT]

can anyone explain to me what kind of being xavier is cuz like it was implied that he isn't human??? he (and jeremiah) is giving long-life species from the xianzhou loufu. or is it only mc that "doesn't have a hundred years" because of her protocore syndrome?? so if it weren't for that, she'd live as long as the others or??

i tried reading the deepspace message thingies but maybe i was really sleep-deprived when i read about philos so i didn't absrob and comprehend a single thing

while we're talking about anecdotes, what the hell is up with zayne's second???

i haven't unlocked rafayel's yet, sadly. idk how lmao. i mean, it says i should have at least 10 4*/5* cards so that would means it's the same criterion for the others right?? but i don't have 10 4*/5* of zayne nor do i have that many of xaviers?? like i don't get it TT

but i did hear (from my sister ofc) that he became an art teacher in mc's high school??? to like see how she's been?? and he hired a p.i to like watch her from afar?? and he told said p.i to stay away from her when p.i sent him a pic of mc??

does that mean rafayel is older than mc? cuz there is no fucking way he became an art teacher if he's younger than her. and it says on his profile that he's 24?? if he was way older than he looked, then his age would be listed as "???" like xavier's but it isn't. so he's actually 24? that make mc at least 21 i think?? cuz if mc was like 18 (senior year) in rafayel's 2nd anecdote, he's be 21 and that's believable for an art teacher rt?? i actually dk how old mc is in his anecdote but my sister said she was a student.

what i'm sure of is that means he definitely recognized her when they first met (again in his pov) with the goldfish in the main story. why the hell did he walk away so fast tho?? he didn't even let mc finish speaking :( (i will forever hold this over his head)

[edit (10 Feb 2024): so there's a reason for this and i'm thinking it has to do with how mc "betrayed" him in their past lives or smth. that makes me sad]

i know he's a merman from lemuria cuz i finished all available chapters. but why the fuck did i gasp so loud lmao cuz i also already knew he was a merman both from spoilers and the "nightly stroll" chapter in his "falling for you" thingy

i also just wanna know how exactly they met the actual first time?? and how did mc forget?? if i met a merman or someone equally as magical when i was a kid, i'd never let anyone forget it.

anyways, i guess i'll keep pulling for more cards 'til i unlock his anecdote so i can finally (hopefully) piece things together

Paleo Pines Gameplay FAQs

WARNING: Spoilers under the cut

How do I get more Poppin flavours? If you've only unlocked Crunchy, you can unlock the next one by either feeding a Styracosaurus a Crunchy or you can talk to Mari after completing the taming tutorial and entering/exiting the Plaza. After that, the next one comes after you enter Dapplewood for the first time and then Pippin will have a quest every day/few days or so.

Are there any future content plans for the game? There are no current plans for more content. At the moment, we're bug fixing but we will add some commonly requested features too! If the game does well, we'd LOVE to make more!

Making money is hard, what are some good ways to do so? Doing quests from the town board is a good way to make money if you don't need the rewards!

Later on, growing higher star crops can sell for a lot and can become consistent - especially berry bushes/trees as they don't require watering/constant care!

How do I get turnips? Sometimes they can be rewards from quests, but Granny will sell the seeds if your friendship is high enough.

How do I get strawberries? Corlan can sell them and Granny will sell the seeds if your friendship is high enough.

How do I get forest wood? In Dapplewood; - Regular wood logs: - Path near stegos - Woods near treeceratops - Area around Agami's

Forest wood logs: - Theri area - Anky area - Troodon pond when drained - Log at the megalo area

Single forest wood: - Centro area - Stego area - Back of Deinocheirus area - Near treeceratops - Megalo area - Troodon pond (drained)

Can I cancel quests/requests? For now, no.

Can I cut down trees on my ranch? Marlo is the only person who can cut down mature trees (since they're important to the people of Paleo Pines) but we never quite managed to get that into the game. It's on our big list of would-be-nice-to-add features.

How do I blur distant objects/make text larger/add high contrasting text/adjust field of view? These are all available in the settings menu!

How do I split stacks? Look in the help menu- there are a lot of tips on sprinting/stack splitting and other control-specific instructions! (For example, on Xbox hold RT and press Aand the stack will split, hold RT and the 'up' on the dpad will bring across one thing at a time)

What do small dinos do? Our small dinos are tenders and discoverers!

For their discovery abilities, simply use your flute to ask them to follow you and go out in the wild- they will find wild collectables and signal to you that they've found something! (Plus all dinos love going for walks)

Tender abilities are unlockable by talking to a special NPC (Avery) in Pebble Plaza in Jurassos! Once you do quests for him, he'll give you some tools to help your smaller friends farm!

How do you get a sleeping patch to make a dreamstone? It's the other way around - sleeping patches are made by upgrading dreamstones, which you find hidden around the wilds. Marlo has an option to downgrade a sleeping patch back into a dreamstone in case you change your mind about which type you wanted, but most players won't need to use that.

How do I get a dino to trust me enough to be a helper? There are multiple ways to raise the happiness of a dino enough so they'll be a helper. It will take a few days before it is enough.

Make sure to feed the dino a treat they like Feed the dino their favourite poppin Take the dino on a walk to the zone they came from Pet their nose, Play their friend song, Keep their pen clean, Make sure their pen is the biome it likes, Try to match their social type- Make sure the dino has enough penmates (different kinds of dinos can share a pen as long as they like the same food!) Make sure they have enough food!

Remember: Some Dinos can take a while to become your helper- as long as you're consistent and checking on them, you'll be on the right track! But not all dinos will become helpers in 2-3 days! How do I change the biome of a pen? Either by changing 2 dreamstones to a biome or by placing at least 3 of a decor type inside the pen!

How do I know what kind of Biome my dino wants? If you use your journal on them, usually it will say what kind they want!

How do I take my dino for a walk? Yoohoo the dino with your flute, then ask it to follow you and then walk to wherever you want to go! You can have three dinosaurs follow you at any one time (or 4 if you count one as your steed).

What does social type mean? It's the amount of Dinos in one pen. Loner type dinos only want to be by themselves. Pack dinos like to be in a pen with 2 to 3 other dinos. Herd dinos want lots of friends, preferably 3+!

I have lots of herd dinos in a pen but it says the pen is too small! You can check the journal for a dinos minimum preferred space, each dino wants that amount of space so if you have 3 dinos who want 20 minimum space, then your pen should be 60 minimum. You can open your journal by the gate to see how big your pen is!

What kind of Poppin/Treat does X dino like? Check out paleo.gg! It looks great and has a lot of information on each dino, including their favourite flavours of treat/Poppin!

How many dreamstones are there? There are enough dreamstones for one of each of every dino plus a handful more- in exact, there will be 45 Dreamstones. You can swap large dreamstones for small dreamstones (and vice versa) from Archeo Pelago in Ariacotta Canyon

I was thinking about Urusei Yatsura and I must admit I don’t understand Ataru. The more I think, the less I understand! Would you help?

Why is he so insistent with the womanizing? Why he needs it so bad? He really wants the attention of all of these girls or is that supposed to represent his biggest desire for freedom above all else? It’s sort of messed up that he priorizes his so-called freedom and the skirt-chasing above being with the girl he loves and who loves him back and that he knows he’s hurting said girl with his behavior (both the girl-hunting and by withholding affection) and he keeps doing that anyway 😭 (... Not that Lum is a saint either but that's besides the point). Ataru's unwillingness to compromise and to give up on his habit really gets in the way of him truthfully experiencing "True Love", doesn't it? It seems like he would rather lose Lum than commit to her. Do you think he would have acted differently if it was with Shinobu?

Oh, and I've seen some speculation that explained Ataru's lechery as being the result os his relationship with his mother and the lack of motherly love he received growing up, so he actually goes after all these girls because he's that starved for affection. What do you think?

Sure, I'll help you out!! Ataru is a complicated individual, after all. But first, I think it would help you a lot if you read my write up on 'Ataru's Love for Lum' first since whatever I've mentioned there is very vital to understanding Ataru as well.

And I haven't even started yet but I have a feeling this will be a sequel to the linked post above since this ask does bring up some questions I don't think I've directly touched in that one.. so...

I hope my fellow UY's are having a great day because today on ‘Yuca Analyzes Silly Things (For No Reason)’, we'll be talking more about Ataru and his relationship with Lum!

And naturally there are spoilers so proceed with caution..

Ok now, let's begin!! Your first question is 'Why does Ataru womanize?' As for the initial reason? Not completely sure. The manga shows that he's just always been like that, even as a kid. It's just never been talked about. And I don't believe in the speculation which you stated btw, because I wouldn't say that Ataru had a lack of motherly love. Yeah, Mrs. Moroboshi can be a bit comedically harsh, but most of that ends up being a one time joke. In fact, she actually really does love Ataru and takes really good care of him (to the point where she waits for him to arrive before eating dinner, says she'll save up money on him so he can go to a good college and other details like that which you can catch here and there), she's just worried about his idiotic tendencies, that's all.

The best theory I have about his womanizing is that ever since he was little he's always seen women in a sort of 'very nice and sweet onee-chan' sort of way. What supports this theory is the fact that Ataru's mom seems to be the most involved in his life compared to his dad (who's either at work or buried deep into his newspapers, he does spend sometime though) and has the most agency in the family. Because of that small Ataru probably had a better view of woman, which probably made him want to meet more and befriend them but since he was small and an idiot, he would just cling onto them which naturally annoyed them to the point of there being rumors about him. And as he grew older (and hormones), this 'liking' eventually became lust. Another theory is that it might be genetics since both of his parents have fallen for someone else during the series' run, but that's like the only thing to support the theory. In the end, I'm still not completely sure. Like to be fair, UY is a gag which wasn't exactly written with much thought (yeah, the character development is unintentional. I'm pretty sure it's a result of RT writing each chapter by going with the natural flow of the story, which is why the characters grow gradually. This isn't something any writer can do btw) so not everything would have an explanation.

Next is 'Why is he still womanizing? why does he want these girls?' Because he's young. He's still a teenager and he likes women and he has for years to the point it's a habit. Habits are hard to break so he can't suddenly be dedicated to someone out of straight up nowhere (especially if she basically got them 'married' instantly when he's still just a teenager). His love for women is just a huge part of his personality, it's just not something he can throw away in an instant and because of that he remains attached. What does not help matters even more is the number of gorgeous girls who're usually around him on a daily basis, girls who are incredibly cute, beautiful, sexy.. tell me, just tell me exactly how easy would it be to break his girl hunting habit when that's the case??

As for Lum, Ataru doesn't emotionally hurt Lum with his womanizing for the most part. Sure, the hope he would stop does linger in her but his infidelity for the most part only makes her mad more than anything else, and she recovers from her anger pretty quickly. Lum getting deeply hurt, is actually quite rare (and has happened very few times in the series) since she's mostly very outgoing. Whenever she's that hurt, we, the readers are made aware of her feelings because unlike a certain idiot, she doesn't keep how she feels to herself. But for the most part, Lum just goes into furious rage rather than any sort of deep feelings when it comes to Ataru's womanizing and yes, Ataru is completely aware of that so he knows he isn't hurting her in any serious way.. and if he did hurt her in that manner, he would probably want to fix things with her..

See how Ataru wanted to talk to her here when he thought she was emotionally hurt? But it was actually buildup for her rage..

The next bit I want to talk about is how both of them love teasing, irking and messing with the other, Ataru likes poking at Lum's temper and Lum likes messing up Ataru's enjoyment with women because to them, their daily antics are like a game which neither wants to lose because of their pride. Like that, their 'he flirts, she zaps, she chases him' thing isn't something they take to an emotional value. It's their game, a game which neither wants to give up.

Now with that done, I want to talk about what you said regarding 'Ataru prioritizing his womanizing over Lum' which has evidently shown to be incorrect. One example is in the 'Electric Jungle' arc, when he left a date with some girl just so he could go on his date with Lum. It's not always a girl accepts Ataru's request; the chances for that is most probably lower than his chances to go on a date with Lum, yet he still left his date with the girl anyways because he knew Lum was waiting for him. Another example is the fact that Ataru won't accept a harem if it doesn't have Lum in it. If Lum isn't in the harem, the harem means nothing to him. Heck, the reason why he wants a harem is because he needs Lum with him, even if there are other girls. Lum is what matters the most to him.

Next is the topic of Ataru and 'true love', Ataru isn't someone who yearns and is desperate for 'true love', but he still does hold it with value. To Ataru, 'true love' doesn't mean flirting, kissing, etc., it means something much deeper, something that comes from the heart. The former can be done even if you don't love someone truly, but the latter is what 'true love' is. There's also a bit more to it but I've already talked about this in the above linked analysis, so I'll just copy-paste that part here instead of writing it from scratch:

Now if he does love her, then why doesn’t he agree to do couple stuff (here I mean stuff like kissing, flirting, saying “I love you”, etc.) with her? That’s because he does all those things with other woman to the point they have lost that specialness. It may still be special to her, but not to him because Lum isn’t any woman, he’s the only one he actually cares about and he doesn’t want to give her the same treatment he gives other women.

So, yeah, it's exactly what I said..

And finally the question 'Would he have acted differently if it was Shinobu?' Of course, we all know that they used to be exes and we do get to see how it was back then as well so we'll just use that info. The womanizing part remains the same for the most part, Ataru would chase skirts if it's either Lum or Shinobu. But the difference would be in whether he shows affection. With Lum, Ataru knows that she'll never leave him and that she will only love him (which is true) but Shinobu isn't like that. Shinobu didn't have any other options and she was already friends with Ataru which is why they started dating. But when she's presented with a better option (temporarily Rei, though only in term of handsomeness, she turned him down because he's an idiot, and later Mendo) her mind immediately wavers and prefers the better option, after all she wants the one who is the match made for her. Because of this, Ataru can't hide his feelings (which he eventually ended up losing anyways) or else it's literally over. It's also easier for Ataru to show affection towards Shinobu since he's always been friendly with her, unlike Lum who he treated terribly at first.

And I think that's it! This ended up being hella long and I ended up spending a lot of time on this (so.. to those reading, please like and even more importantly, reblog! pretty please?) and I hope I was able to clear all your questions anon! i think my biggest problem w/ rwby @ this point is how much they love shock value and making their characters suffer for entertainment. Ever since the end of volume 8 there’s been an air of “you’ll never guess what happens next!!” before the result being death, destruction, sadness, etc.

They played the Everything is Horrible card to wrap up volume 3 and it almost feels like theyve been trying to recapture that “woah what the hell???” factor ever since.

the volume 8 ending marked a really dark turn for rwby as a show, with scenes so graphic and upsetting that you can feel the grins on the writer’s faces when they told themselves “This is a game changer, no one will EVER expect this.” even though many of the darker themes were already explored much more tactfully in v3.

but the result is much more damning, because now, nothing is shocking. It’s the factor that made most people stop reading attack on titan. if ANYTHING is fair game, no matter how dark, then why get invested in any of it??? Hell, they made bumbleby canon after years of baiting, doubling back, yearning, etc, and it didnt even end up being the climax of the episode!!! (no really! that episode kept going after the happiest scene all season).

Now like, volume 9 has been arguably going better than its predecessors in terms of character writing, but it’s also really awkward to watch them stumble and trip over the decisions they made for the volume 8 ending. There’s a deep deep feeling that if the team just talked to each other for more than 5 minutes, none of these events would be taking place. It’s narrative tension in such a bland form. the biggest relief in the entire season was an extended scene where blake and yang FINALLY talk about their feelings. after AN ENDLESS SUPPLY of skirting around their issues, and unfortunately, that episode ended, and we had plenty more show afterwards.

This latest episode was a tough sell for me. i already don’t exactly trust RT to handle “sensitive/distressing themes”, and to that end i think that Ruby’s “decision” in this episode could’ve used much more sensitive & informed lead-in. Also, straight up there are some really dark things in this episode ASIDE from that, that I swear to god, someone was smiling over in the writer’s room.

SPOILERS: you can try to make Neo a sympathetic villain, or you can have her crush a defenseless mouse to death under her heel, but you can’t do both, dude. Ya just can’t.

END SPOILERS: overall, i think im fine w/ this season. it’s overall decent and is trying it’s best to handwave away all the bad decisions made in previous seasons. That method CAN work if it’s in the interest of making a more thematically interesting show & learning from your past mistakes, but instead it feels like they’re simply running from tragedy to tragedy, with glimpses of happiness that are starting to feel more like a trick they can pull out whenever they want to lure you into a false sense of security. Characters being happy is now a surefire sign that there’s going to be a character death soon.

SPOILERS AGAIN SORRY THIS IS DISORGANIZED: my friend hannah pointed out that one of the most egregious parts of this episode is that neo didnt know most of the people she was puppeting around to psychologically torture Ruby. Neo’s actions were supposed to convince Ruby that all these deaths were her fault, but because there’s VERY few characters that fit that bill, you end up with the issue of many characters being folks Neo shouldn’t even know the status of (unless she can suddenly read minds)

Leo, the headmaster of mistral died while ruby & friends were off screen, and was DIRECTLY killed by Salem without Ruby’s involvement.

Ozpin and Pyrrha were killed by Cinder, while Neo was busy careening into the abyss on her umbrella, implying in that in their brief time together, Cinder explained everyone who died who had a connection to Ruby. Neo clearly guesses that penny is dead in the first place, meaning that her even KNOWING about Leo is completely unexplainable. Neo also shouldnt have known that Ironwood was dead, and on top of all else, why does she think that Ruby would blame herself for clover???? methinks the writers just wanted to fill seats in neo’s scary fucked up dining room. wacky decision.

Or maybe it isnt, because the first thing i thought was: “Wow thats so scary what the fuck”

which again points a big neon arrow to the writing issues of current rwby: It was done to be shocking even though it doesn’t make sense.

I have a hard time believing any of the events of this episode are ones they’ll stick with. All of the characters who “died” in this episode can plausibly come back in some way shape or form, so I guess now its time to just wait n see what happens.

It's Thursday, which means it's time for another JPDE - Character Spotlight! This week we're gonna touch upon the other redhead RT deemed too good for their series... Pyrrha Nikos!

Also, warning: there are some slight spoilers for JPDE - Sonata of Fire in this post.

Unlike Penny, when it came time to write for Pyrrha, my inspiration didn't come out of despair and spite. Heck, at the beginning I hadn't even thought about giving her that much of a spotlight other than being a possible route, but that changed as the scope of JPDE's story got bigger.

All of a sudden, Pyrrha wasn't just a possible love interest to be given a Takewaki Kuno level of indecision over love interests. She was a main actress in the events leading up to and of the Fall. Which made me realize how much her potential had been wasted in the original series.

Pyrrha's nickname was the Invincible Girl but, other than the namedrop and a couple of other instances, we never really got to explore what that actually meant. What does a life of training and fighting and winning do to your head? Especially to someone with such a kind and altruistic personality as Pyrrha...

Also we had never really seen her live up to that name. So I had to write a route that made sense, explore her psyche in a completely original way and make her look badass at least twice... A tall order but I think I managed to deliver, in no small part thanks to SaDui's art and OddTillTheEnd's music!

Pyrrha's route was also the one that first made me think of the concept of Complementary Routes, aka: you can only bring one person to the dance each playthrough but if you progress these routes this much, you get sneak peeks at other things... Like inside of Pyrrha's head.

Going into JPDE2 - Adagio of Darkness, Pyrrha is a changed person and while if for better or worse is a consideration I will leave to you when you'll play the game, I can at least confirm one thing ahead of time...

She's happy.

Since I finished Rogue Trader yesterday I'm just gonna jot down some notes on my RT Eltura's character arc with Heinrix because it actually ended up playing out very nicely. Under the cut for spoilers.

Eltura was kind of an ass to him at first, both because he was throwing his authority around and because she was repeating the usual imperial disdain for psykers/mutants. So we got the snippy, "I hope you can control your power better now" / "ew psyker" dialogue options.

She started to warm up to him throughout act 2 (especially the crashed black ship -- oof, what a good way to dig into backstory) but generally kept to the friendly options, with the exception of making out at the Magnae Ascenscio. #worthit

After having a VERY STRESSFUL time of it all through act 3 (a noble/officer/master tactician and Yrliet without drukhari weapon proficiency was a very scary place to be), hot off of having to talk Cassia down from melting her brain, she found Heinrix and approached him as another psyker bomb to disarm... and instead he immediately recognized her and asked for help. The palm kiss!!!!

(Side note, is he using biomancy to identify the RT here? Nifty if so)

Their chat afterwards in the Pit was incredibly good. I love me some sad boys and my god did it deliver -- I didn't expect his backstory to be THAT fucked up. I have a drawing in my mind's eye: the two of them curled up on one of the shitty cots in the back of the Pit, Eltura using her coat as a blanket to get a bit of sleep before they go for the final push in the arena and Heinrix with a warp-haze around one hand finishing up fixing his organs. Maybe now that I've written it down I'll draw it.

(Then of course they went back to yelling as he chewed Eltura out for keeping Yrliet around. Some things never change.)

Then we get the full circle at the end of act 4: when Heinrix had his full-on psychic breakdown, Eltura willingly waded into the ice despite the freaky psyker shit and brought him back.

On Epitaph, when Calcazar tried to tell Heinrix to kill her, she just stood back with the smuggest smile on her face.

Having him as her Master of Whispers afterwards was also *chef's kiss*. 10/10 epilogue.
