for Ukrainians worried that most Americans generally support Russia, what you’re seeing is definitely being distorted by the internet. as of May 2023, over a majority of Americans see Russia not as partner, not even as a competitor but as an outright enemy. like 64% of Americans like or strongly like Ukraine, but nearly just as many strongly dislike Russia.

and look how many Americans like Zelenskyy! for a population that’s infamously focused inward, those stats are fucking incredible. we very literally like you over our own allies, and tbh that’s probably exactly why the only Americans you see online are the ones actually getting into arguments and being pro-Russia; the rest of us take it for granted that Russia is the enemy to such an extent that support for Russia is basically a non-issue. you don’t argue about the things you agree on, right?

what really shocks me is the confidence in Zelenskyy-- specifically, the fact that I somehow underestimated how many Americans trust Zelenskyy. ???? since when do Americans have confidence in any world leader, much less to that degree? usually at best we’ve never heard of them and don’t care. that just really amazes me. meanwhile, I’m pretty sure anyone who assassinates Putin will qualify as an American hero lol at this point.

#the master and margarita #there's a thing I have to admit: I love british/hollywood adaptations of russian literature #because in russia those books are treated like sacred texts #which turns every adaptation into a blind word-to-word depiction of a novel #and the soul or the main idea quite often gets lost or covered in all of it #side note: I absolutely loved that in credits they wrote august diehl's name in the latin alphabet #like that's actually an amazing idea to use the native language of an actor to mention them. cheffs kiss #(I'm sure someone have done this before that's just the first time I saw it. so) #personall stuff
