Content - Oliver Queen
Tumblr media
Pairing: Oliver Queen x Reader
Warnings: nope.
A/N: In this world Sara was not on the Gambit with Oliver. First time writing for Arrow or Oliver so let me know what you think. And as much as I love Olicity, him and the reader are so much better together.
Tumblr media
Your phone rang. It was a number you didn’t recognize and you pushed the button to dismiss the call. A minute later it rang again. The same number. You dismissed it again with a frown. When they called for the third time in five minutes you gave into your curiosity and answered. “Hello?”
For a moment there was no response. Then a clearing of a throat followed by the soft call of your name.
“Yes?”
“It’s Oliver.”
You sucked in a breath and tears flooded your eyes instantly. “I don’t know who this is, but that isn’t funny.”
“I’m not joking. It’s me.”
“That’s not possible. Oliver’s dead.” Your thumb hovered over the button, ready to disconnect the call. But there was that little thread deep inside that wished it was true. That this voice on the other side of the phone could be your Oliver because god, you’d missed him. Every single day since that boat had gone down.
“Who else would know to call you?”
That gave you pause. You and Oliver had been seeing each other for two years when he vanished, but the only one that knew besides the two of you was Laurel Lance. She was his public girlfriend. The face in the press. In reality she would disappear to study for law school and you and Ollie would spend time together.
Besides the fact your brother was his best friend, your father had put him on the absolutely not list of potential suitors for you. Not that there were many on the yes list. Your dad could be a little over protective. And a bit of an ass if you were honest. When you’d casually mentioned maybe going on a date with Oliver, your father had threatened to cut you off completely. That included not paying for school.
He called your name when you’d been silent for too long.
“It can’t really be you.” Your voice was quiet, little more than a whisper. Hot tears ran down your cheeks and you bit back a sob. Every single part of you wanted it to be him. Wanted this dream to be real, but it was impossible.
“The night before I left, I asked you to marry me.”
At that you were no longer able to contain your cries. You’d never told anyone that. Not even Laurel. It had been your secret. A piece of Oliver that was just yours. You sucked in a ragged breath. “Where are you?”
“Starling General. Room 1241.”
You hung up without saying goodbye and grabbed your bag. You took the stairs two at a time and pushed past your dad and brother who were coming in the door as you left. You ignored them calling after you. Nothing was going to stop you until you saw Oliver with your own eyes.
The drive to the hospital was a blur. You parked and hurried inside. You must have pressed the button for the elevator a dozen times as if that would make it arrive faster. When you finally arrived at the twelfth floor you hurried through the halls to the room number he’d given you. A nurse tried to get your attention as you racecd by, but you ignored her.
“Miss,” she called again as you opened the door and stepped into the room.
A man stood in front of the window looking out at the city. Oliver. His hair was shorter and his shape had changed but it was him. Your heart raced and your chest drew tight. Moisture flooded your eyes again. You opened your mouth to say his name and were interrupted by the nurse busting into the room behind you.
“Miss, you can’t be here.”
Oliver snapped around, his eyes instantly finding yours. And just like that, five years disappeared. If anything, you only loved him more.
The nurse gripped your arm. “I’m sorry, Mr. Queen.”
He held up a hand to stop her and smiled. “It’s fine. She’s my…mine. She’s mine. She’s with me, I mean.”
The woman muttered apologies and backed from the room.
Oliver and you stared at one another for a long moment, both of you taking in the changes in the other. Then he opened his arms and you launched yourself at him. You didn’t even think about it. It was as if your body was drawn to his. You wrapped your arms around him and buried your face in his neck. He held you to him with one hand on your back and one in your hair. His hold tightened and he pressed a kiss to the top of your head while you wept.
“God, I missed you. I thought about you every day. This is what I dreamed about coming home to.”
You took a step back and wiped the tears from your eyes. Oliver’s hands settled on your waist as he looked at you with a soft smile. “I missed you so much, Ollie. So much has happened but somehow, it’s all still the same. I can’t believe you’re here.”
His smile faltered and his hands fell away. “Are you with someone? I just wanted to see you. I didn’t even think—”
You pressed your fingers to his lips to cut him off and smiled. “There’s never been anyone but you.”
His smile returned under your touch and his hands found your waist again. He pulled you into him and kissed your lips. Soft at first, the kiss soon turned into something more. A desperate need to reconnect with the person you thought you’d lost forever. To be as close you could get to the man you loved to the deepest parts of your soul.
“Oliver, we need—” The voice cut off and you turned to see the doctor looking on with wide eyes. “Oh, I’m sorry to interrupt, but there are some more tests I’d like to run.”
You shifted your gaze to Oliver. “I can go.”
His hand linked with yours, your fingers threaded together. “You’re not going anywhere.”
Tumblr media
You curled up in a chair in the corner of his room and the two of you talked while people poked and prodded at him. A couple of times he left to have something done outside the room and you were right there waiting when he returned.
By unspoken agreement, the two of you left the heavy conversation for later. You just took solace in each other’s presence. Oliver kept getting up to wander over to the window. It must all seem so strange to him. A lot had changed in the city in his absence.
That’s where he was when his mother arrived. You remained quiet hoping she wouldn’t notice your presence. For some reason, Moira never seemed to care for you much. You watched their reunion with a small smile. At least you did until Moira opened her eyes mid-hug and spotted you.
She pushed away from Oliver to frown at you. “What are you doing here?”
You looked from her to her son. He rolled his eyes and sighed. “Mom—”
“No,” she said, cutting him off. “It was very nice of you to come by, but I’m not even certain how you got in here.”
She stepped toward the door and Oliver grabbed her arm. “Mom, stop.”
Moira turned back to look at him.
“I asked her to come.”
“But…” Her gaze moved between the two of you and her brow furrowed. “You said you didn’t want anyone here until they were done with the tests. And why her of all people?”
“I said I didn’t want anyone here to fuss over me until they were finished. And she is my fiancée.”
Moira dropped onto the end of the hospital bed. “I’m sorry, what?”
Oliver looked at you, a plea for help in his eyes. You took a breath and turned to his mother. “We were seeing each other for a couple of years before the accident. Laurel covered for us. He proposed the night before he left.”
“Why hide it?”
“You know my dad. He didn’t want me dating at all but especially not Oliver or anyone in Tommy’s circle of friends. He threatened to quit paying for school.”
She stared at you with a sheen of moisture in her eyes. “But you—”
You cut her off. “There are a lot of things Oliver and I haven’t discussed yet. I’d appreciate it if you gave us time to do so.”
Moira’s gaze narrowed as she pursed her lips. She rose to her feet and you mirrored the motion, prepared to stand your ground. You weren’t going to allow her to take this happiness from you.
“You selfish bitch,” she snarled. The venom in her voice surprised you. “All this time and you never once—”
“Enough.” Oliver’s command startled his mother into silence. “I just got home. Can we not start this already?”
You could tell there was so much Moira wanted to say, but she settled for a glare in your direction and nod of her head. “Fine. The doctor said they’ll release you in the morning. I’ll pick you up.”
“Good.” He gave his mother a tight smile and kissed her temple.
After one last look in your direction, she left.
“You want to tell me what exactly that was about?” Oliver looked weary and his jaw was tight. He held up a hand to stop you when you opened your mouth to explain. “And don’t tell me it was nothing. My mother hasn’t seen me in five years and just spent less than ten minutes in my presence. So, what’s going on?”
You took a deep breath and chewed at your lip. You knew you were going to have this conversation eventually, but frankly you didn’t know how he would respond so you’d been content to put it off for a bit.
“Are you married?”
You frowned. “Why would you ask that? I already told you there was no one but you.”
“Because you aren’t saying anything and that’s about the worst thing I can think of right now.” He huffed a laugh but there was no humor in it.
You shook your head and pulled out your phone. You scrolled through your pictures until you found the one you wanted and handed it over.
Oliver’s eyes studied it for a moment. The furrow in his brow deepened before suddenly smoothing as his brows shot up. His gaze darted from the screen to you and back again. You twisted your hands together, waiting for his response. When he said nothing, you started to talk.
“I found out about an hour before we heard about the Gambit. It was both the best and worst day of my life. His name is Jonas.”
Tears pooled in Oliver’s eyes as his attention focused solely on you. “My middle name.”
You gave a soft smile. “That was as close as I could get to naming him after you.”
He ran a hand down his face. “Wow. I…I’m a dad.”
“I’m sorry, Ollie. I was going to give you a chance to adjust before I sprung this on you.”
He sat on the side of his bed and laid the phone on the table beside the bed. “No one knows he’s mine?”
You sat beside him and laced your fingers with his. You gripped tight and didn’t dare look at him. If he didn’t want this—didn’t want you—you didn’t know what you’d do. “I was terrified. You don’t know what it was like. I was grieving and alone. How was I supposed to go about telling everyone I’d been lying to them for years? I couldn’t. Not without you. All I kept thinking was that dad would kick me out and your mother would try to take him from me.”
He wrapped his other hand around yours and squeezed. “No. I get it. It’s fine.”
Your head jerked up. “So, you’re not angry?”
That furrow appeared between his brows again as he tilted his head. “Why would I be angry?”
You shrugged and looked away. “I just told you that you’re the father of a four-year-old and no one knows.”
He moved one hand to cup the side of your face and turned your head so you were looking at him. “Listen to me, sweetheart. If I’m honest, I’m kind of glad no one knows. It’s fitting I find out first, isn’t it?”
You smiled and shook your head in amusement. Leave it to Oliver to think of it that way. You grabbed your phone and opened the gallery back up before handing it to him. “You want me to tell you about him?”
“Absolutely,” he answered with no hesitation.
It was well after midnight by the time you’d exhausted the stash of pictures in your phone but not your stories. The two of you laid in the bed together, your head on his chest and your fingers laced together on his stomach as you told him of skinned knees and artistic endeavors. Anytime you stopped talking, afraid you were boring him, he’d encourage you to keep going. As the sun began to lighten the early morning sky, you drifted to sleep wrapped in the warmth of your lover’s arms, both of you content for the first time in years.

AVALANCE AU
AU: Sara is attending CU Boulder, she plays soccer and lives with her teammate Zari and childhood best friend Ray. Ray’s best friend with Nate but Nate is in a frat. Charlie is on the team and has a massive crush on Zari who has a massive crush on Nate. Ava attends CU Boulder as well, she plays basketball, she’s lives with her best friend Nora. Gary is friends and is in the same frat as Nate, has a massive crush on Ava but will soon have a sexual awakening.
Part 9/? The Game I Was Talking About The Game
Tumblr media
“You’ve got to admit she’s really good,” Charlie tries to make conversation as the game finishes. Boulder wins their first scrimmage which Ava loves because she’s as competitive as they come.
“Right Sara?” Zari looks at Sara who is still sitting down in a bit of shock. A shock that for once she is actually enjoying basketball game and that nobody else has gotten her attention but Ava.
“Yeah, c’mon we’ve got a party to go to.” Sara gets up from the chair and starts to head for the exit.
“Wait why dont we go say hi?” Zari pulls Sara back and heads towards a welcoming Nora and a nervous Gary “Hey guys,” Charlie awkwardly greets digging her hands down deep into her pockets
“Hey guys glad you could make it, what’d you think?” Nora smiles knowing that Ava will soon come out from the locker room
“It was good, they’ve got a lot of fans don't they?” Zari jokes
“Yeah actually, its crazy how much people love basketball--Ava hey!” Nora smiles and waves Sara immediately stiffens.
“Hey guys, Z, Charlie---Hi Sara.” Ava fixes her hair and joins the group circle
“So basically, when people say ball is life--you actually meant it” Zari puts her hand up for a high-five. Ava chuckles and nods, “You could say that” she adds
“Alright good game, Nora I was wondering if I could pick your brain about that one class we’ve got all together.” Zari lies and everyone seems to catch up on what she is hinting at
“Of course, we’ll meet you guys outside” Nora smirks, Z and Charlie wink and Gary fan girls not so subtly
“That felt like a set up” Ava chuckles as they start walking to where there friends
“You’re telling me, when we’re you going to mention that you were the star player? Let alone have two awards for being the athlete of the month by gatorade?” Sara makes conversation hoping that Ava finally takes her bait
“When we’re you going to tell me? I saw the big banner of you, Charlie, Zari and  2 other people but I saw you Sara. You were right in the middle.”
“Oh is that so? Because last time I check I wasn’t nominated nor did I win an award.”
“We’re doing this? Fine I'm going to look you up right now-” Ava pulls out her phone and types in Sara’s name  “L A N C E right?”
“Wai--wait a minute.” Sara tries to take her phone away by reaching over to Ava. But Ava simply pushes herself up against Sara while creating some distance between Sara and the arm with her phone in it. The girls chuckle for a while and Sara had the urge to kiss Ava but shakes her head.
“You won't find much.” Sara pulls away and puts her hand in her pockets
“Funny because-” Ava clears her throat to recover from the moment they shared “-It says you were the first freshman to be voted as captain, every summer since college you’ve trained with the US national women's team. What’s that about Lance?”
“I--look its not that big of a deal. I’m just happy we’re finally having a conversation.” Sara smiles knowing how she missed her and Ava’s playful banter even though they’d only known each other for a week
“Are you telling me you missed me?”
“ You are good. You are so good--the game---I was talking about the game.” Sara stutters trying to recover knowing that she wasn't talking about sex.
“I think you’ve already mentioned that but thanks, thank you for coming to my scrimmage.”
“I actually enjoyed myself-”
“Why do you sound shock?”
“I don’t know, I love sports and all but I never clicked with basketball”
“Did I sway you?”
“Not you personally but the game was definitely good.”
“Ah--alright what are you doing right now?”
“Heading--to--why?”
“Well seeing that you took me to a party, its only fair you come to one of mine. Right guys?” Ava turns to their friends seeing that they’ve finally caught up
“Right about what?” Gary wonders
“They should come to a party with us since we went to a party with them last weekend.”
“Yes! We’re going to Kappa Sigma” Sara stops in her tracks hearing that familiar frat house
“Wait why there?” Sara wonders
“Some of the girls on the team are “dating” some of the brothers. So are you down?” Ava looks at Sara who seems a bit unsure but surprisingly replies with a nod.
“Great I’ll see you in an hour. C’mon guys.” Ava waves goodbye and the two follow them
“What was that all about? You were so confident and honestly hot.” Gary rambles earning weird looks from the two girls
“You just had to make it weird didn't you?” Ava jokes ignoring what Gary said

okay so imagine: the trapped in the tv ep but with only british tv shows - if ur not british i'm sorry!! hopefully this will still be funny for you lol
No one was fazed as the classical music rang out overhead, and Nate and Mick waited patiently for it to finish. The pair were stood next to a low table, set on lush green grass and under a backdrop of a clear blue sky and a large country house, with people milling around and chatting, just quietly enough not to be heard over the music.
The logo flashed faintly in the sky, and Nate coughed, adjusting his glasses slightly.
"Well, here we have a lovely piece - a mantle clock, looks to be 17th Century, possibly Russian," He started, tipping the clock back slightly to get a better look at it. "Can you tell me a little more about how you came to have it?"
"It stole it." Mick shrugged. "It looked expensive."
"And you'd be correct." Nate said, waggling his finger to emphasize his point. "Made by an early pioneer of this type of time-keeping, Rip Hunter, the craftsmanship is just - exquisite, and there's not even - oh, there's a small dent here."
"Probably from when I hit Rasputin over the head with it." Mick said, and Nate nodded sagely.
"Well, even with that, it's extremely valuable - you don't see many of these pieces, I'm very honoured to be evaluating it. What do you think it's worth?"
"From the age and quality, I'd want a couple million." Mick grunted.
"And what would you use the money for?" Nate asked, and Mick shrugged again.
"Put Lita through college. Some for the Legends, buy more condiments."
"That sounds fantastic. Well -" Nate started, then paused for an unnaturally long time. Everyone held their breath. "I think, at auction, it could fetch up to £3 million."
Behind them, the Legends cheered, Ava punching the air. Mick nodded, then picked up the clock in his gloved hand wand walked off, swinging it as he did so.
///
The music faded out, and Sara shut the book she was reading, smiling widely. The nursery she was in was quiet, the children having not yet arrived for the day. "I didn't see you there! I'm Sara - what's your name?" She said, voice bright and bubbly.
There was silence for a few seconds, and Sara nodded, despite no one replying.
"Ah, of course. I'm so glad you're here - I need your help." She stood up, eyes wide. "There's a giant octopus named Tagumo terrorizing the village - and we need a special treat for the bake sale! But who should we ask for help?" She scratched her head in an exaggerated thinking motion, then stood up and walked backwards to the large, colourful map that hung on the nursery wall.
"We could ask - Ava the Bureaucrat?" She asked, pointing at a point on the map.
Ava popped up on screen, dressed in her suit and surrounded by stacks and stacks of papers, threatening to topple at any moment. She gave an exaggerated shrug.
"No, she's too busy. Maybe Nate the Historian?" Sara said in a sing-song voice.
At the top of a pink castle, a hand was waving.
"No, he's stuck at the top of his castle. Maybe Zari, the Cat Chat celebrity?"
Zari was on her phone but started to wave as the camera zoomed in on her.
"Yes, that's it! We'll ask Zari, the Cat Chat celebrity!" Sara said, smiling widely. "Come on, let's go to Zari's house!"
Sara walked through the quiet streets of Waverider, avoiding the large chunks of stone that were being thrown her way by an angry octopus. It was a sleepy seaside town, with brightly coloured buildings and extremely predictable weather, and she loved it. She stopped in front of the yellow house and knocked on the door.
"No! It's mine!" "It's mine!" came the muffled voices from inside.
"Oh no! I think Zari's having an argument with her brother Behrad." Sara said, eyes wide. "Let’s see if we can help."
She opened the door, where Zari and Behrad were having a tug of war with a small bracelet. Sara stood, hands on hips, with an exaggerated frown.
"Z! B! What's this?"
"It's my turn with the totem!" Behrad whined, and Zari stomped her foot.
"No, dummy, it's mine! You used it to beat Genghis Khan last week!"
"Did you two forget our last lesson, when we learnt about sharing?" Sara said, and the two broke apart, looking distinctly guilty.
“No, Miss Lance.” They said in unison.
“Good.” Sara said, smiling brightly. “How about – Zari, you use the family heirloom to capture the giant octopus, whilst Behrad and I make a treat for the bake sale!”
The pair brightened up. “Sounds great! We can make a Behrad brownie!” Behrad said brightly, moving towards the kitchen, when Sara put out her arm to stop him.
“Uh oh, did you forget something?”
Behrad struck his palm on his forehead with an exaggerated sigh.
“Whoops! Here you go, sis.” He said, passing the totem over. “I’m sorry I wasn’t sharing nicely.”
Zari shrugged, slipping the bracelet on. “I’m sorry too.” She said, and the pair hugged. When they broke apart, Zari blinked.
“Wait -”

The tannoy overhead started to play classical music, overlaid with the booming voice of an announcer. "DC's University Challenge! With your host - Raymond Palmer!"
The lights went up on the studio and Ray sat at a desk, smiling widely at the audience, shuffling his cards.
"Good evening and welcome to DC's University Challenge!” He said, barely being heard over the sounds of the audience clapping politely. He waited until they’d started to quiet down before beginning again. “Our first team tonight is the Time Bureau, a secret government organisation that has produced several bureaucrats, a multi-million-dollar magical creature theme park and around a dozen clones. The organisation has just under 1,000 employees and ranks number two in the inter-governmental department softball league. Their team tonight includes -"
"Hey! I'm Mona Wu, and I'm reading creature care and getting in touch with my wild side!" Mona said, waving and smiling brightly.
Gary coughed. "Uh - Hello - I'm Gary Green, and I'm studying as an apprentice of the dark arts under John Constantine."
"I'm Nate Heywood, and I'm doing a second PhD deductive historical reasoning and turning into steel." Nate said, giving the camera a mock salute.
"And finally, their Captain -"
"I'm Ava Sharpe, from 2213, and I'm reading how to move on from clone based psychological trauma." Ava said, nodding with a tight-lipped smile. She looked at her team – they looked good, all dressed in the Bureau suits. She hoped it would be enough to beat their opponents.
After the clapping ended, Ray gestured to the other side of the studio. "Our second team tonight are the Legends, founded in 2016 by Rip Hunter. Although seen as the underdogs, they won a comfortable victory against the Legion of Doom in the first round, answering questions on the French Revolution, punk rock and African oral history. With a combined age that's impossible to calculate, lets meet the team."
"Hey, I'm Behrad Tarazi, and I'm studying the air totem - but if my parents are watching, I'm studying .... business." Behrad said awkwardly, fiddling with the bracelet around his wrist.
"Hi, I'm Charlie, I'm from before the concept of time, and I'm reading loom weaving - and also shape-shifting." Charlie said, waving to the audience and adjusting the Beebo mascot they had placed behind their team name.
"I'm Mick." Mick grunted. There were a few seconds of silence before Ray spoke again.
"And their Captain -"
"Hey, I'm Sara Lance from Star City. I did two tours with the League of Assassins and now I'm reading kicking ass across the time stream." Sara said, pointing her finger guns towards Ava and winking, which caused the opposing captain to blush.
Ray set the cards down. "Right, well, we all know the rules, so I'll just get started. Your starter for 10 is - in the novels of Rebecca Silver, how many breasts does the alien queen Garima have?"
Mick was on the buzzer, but Mona was quicker. "Three!" She answered excitedly.
"I'm sorry, in the most recent novel, Death of a Rogue, she is revealed to have a secret fourth breast. Another starter for ten - the 1995 film Swamp Thaaang, written and directed by Greg Berlanti, was based on the memiors of what creature?"
John slapped the buzzer decisively. “Swamp Thing.”
Ray nodded and the crowd went wild. “Correct. Your questions will be on marine life. How many penis’ does a shark have?”
The team formed a little huddle, and Behrad shrugged.
“Anyone got any -” Sara started, but John cut in.
"Two." John said.
“Are you sure?” Sara asked, and John nodded, wincing slightly.

“Welcome back to – Top of the Pops!”
The lights came up on the little podium where Astra was standing, holding the slim microphone between her fingers, and she smiled widely.
"So, your top five this week is Doctor Mid-Nite with ‘Year 3000’ at number 5, Ava and the Clones with ‘The One and Only’ at number 4, Rip Hunter and Wally West with ‘Careless Whisper,’ entering the charts at number 3, and that was the JSA, staying strong at number 2 with ‘Kids in America.’ But, coming in hot at number 1, with their new hit ‘American Idiot’, it's the Legends of Tomorrow!"
Astra swept her hand towards the stage, where the lights came up to rapturous cheers from the audience.
"We are the Legends of Tomorrow - and we're here to change your destiny!" Charlie shouted into the mic, just as Mick started up on drums. Nate’s hands hovered over his bass guitar, looking over to Sara, who winked at him as the chords of her electric guitar rang out over the cheering audience.

So there are some Ava hater discourses going on in Reddit. I don’t go to that site so I don’t know for sure what is going on. Anyway, what I saw from twitter is that some fanboys want Ava dead. Unsurprisingly, they are either oliver fanboys or captain canary shippers.
I was like, how??? You have this super hot Miss Jes Macallan. You don’t need a brain to objectively like Ava Sharpe.
Tumblr media
(gif from @amnells)
But then I realized that, oops, she wasn’t created from male gaze to please male eyes at all.
Like, she’s very authoritative and I see zero attempt to over-sexualize her (also most of female characters in LOT -kudos to the writer.) Just a woman in suite with just one button of her dress shirt open. And her hair - just a formal bun.
Tumblr media
(gif from @bloodydifficult
And she paid zero attention to men just like a typical lesbian would do. (Can’t blame us, men are stinky. I don’t hate them, just don’t like the smells.)
Tumblr media
(gif from  starcitysirens)
And then what? She owns Sara Lance’s heart and their scenes together were not w/w fetishization at all. All are soft, natural, funny, not too much, not too exposing. Nothing like that one Oliver/Sara scene that’s clearly about desire (and heterosexual fantasy of suburban housewives, obviously.)
Tumblr media
(gif from directoravasharpe )
Ava Sharpe shattered that lame male fantasy of a bad boy with sexual prowess to seduce sisters to fall for him -- which is so outdated and unrealistic. The unhappy Sara Lance who’s always associated with darkness in Arrow was clearly created by male gaze -- suffering but hot and cute female superhero in an uncomfortable outfit.
In conclusion, thanks LoT Writers for creating Ava Sharpe for us and not for the whiny fragile dudes. You guys did a great job hurting their fragile masculinity.

When rumors went around that Gary Green’s sister was to join the Time Bureau many agents didn’t know whether to run or hide, maybe both. Many agents and legends feared the Bureau would gain another geek, coward and just plain awkward gal.
Ava freaked out, this is what happens when you let Gary be in charge of new hires. She finally came to terms with Gary, and she did not need another Green fantasizing and stalking her. Luckily for her she could put the other Green through series of tests to make sure she doesn’t join the Bureau.
Ava sat at her desk with multiple sighs that escaped her lips. Her office brightened with the artificial light from the Waverider and dimmed back to her office lighting where Sara walked through a time portal.
“When do we get to meet this new Agent Green,” Sara teased.
Ava looked up from her work, threw the pen in her hand somewhere on her desk and glared at her new best friend.
“Not funny, Sara. Gary brought in the new recruits for training. You’re welcome to come.”
“Yeah, got to see this new interm Legend,” Sara smirked which pissed off Ava.
“When did the Bureau train their employees anyways?” Sara questioned as the two walked towards the training facility.
“Since Rip decided to use Bureau men for his personal endeavors and got them all killed,” Ava said casually.
When Sara and Ava entered the training room they searched for any resemblance to Gary. Sara however had her eyes trained on a particular brunette, you, in a sports bar and leggings, who was freerunning on the set obstacle courses. Sara unconsciously bit her lower lip as her eye traveled up and down the girl’s body. Ava couldn’t find the said Green, which she expected to be sitting on the sidelines and rolled her eyes at Sara.
“You’re unbelievable,” Ava crossed her arms. “I can’t find her.”
“Maybe she was too scared to show up,” Sara shrugged.“Meanwhile I’m going to introduce myself.”
“Sara!” Ava harshly whispered and swung her arms down to her side. “Stop fraternizing with the recruits!”
Sara turned with a smirk and a wink and continued towards the brunette who now rested on the bench press.
“Not many people here know how to freerun, neither are they field agents. You on the other hand, look more of my speed,” Sara’s eyes wandered across your body and noticed the Navy dog tags around your neck. “The Navy, huh,” she muttered “I’m Sara, Sar-”
“Sara Lance, I know.” You smiled knowing the fact that Sara probably didn’t know who you were as you placed a towel around your neck.
“You know me?” Sara frowned in confusion.
“Yeah. Captain of the Waverider, White Canary, League of Assassins. You’re pretty famous,” she still had no idea who you were as you held back a laugh.
“Well I didn’t know I’m pretty famous, maybe you would like a private tour of the Waverider from the one and only then.” Sara flirted.
“You have no idea who I am do you,” You said in amusement.
“What do you mean?” Sara frowned.
“I’m (Y/N),” you paused to see if Sara followed, which she didn’t.
“(Y/N)!” Gary waved from the open door with a wide grin on his face.
Ava stood with her hands behind her back, the classic authoritive Bureau stance. The taller blond stopped Gary’s aggressive waving and gave him the ‘start the next training look’.
Gary cleared his throat and clasped his hand together.
“Recruits the next training session awaits you in the next room.”
Sara looked back and forth between you and Gary in disbelief. She made brief eye contact with a shocked Ava before she was pulled from her thoughts.
“(Y/N) Green,” you placed out your hand for her to shake.
Sara shook your hand still in shock, “You’re (Y/N) Green, but you’re lik-”
“Badass, cool and nothing like Gary?” You interrupted. “Yeah, I get that a lot.”
“I was gonna say hot, but all those works too.”
You smiled at her as the rest of the recruits began to exit the room, and leaned closer to Sara’s ear as you walked past.
“Oh if the offer still stands, I would love a private tour.” You smirked before you gave Ava a nod of acknowledgement followed by a light punch to Gary’s shoulder and headed out the door to the next training session.
Gary rubbed his shoulder and once you were completely out the door and out of earshot, Sara’s and Ava’s faces returned to their Directoral and Captain faces.
“Dammit Gary! Why didn’t you tell me you’re sister was hot,” Sara growled.
“Well, in my defense you never asked. Plus (Y/N) really wanted to see people’s reaction when they found out we were related, which I have to say is a bit offending. Nonetheless I still love her, dad sent her to bootcamp for three months cause she was a delinquent and she just retired as a Navy Seal. Anyways I should see how the new recruits are doing,” Gary bumped his other shoulder on the door as he exited.
This left Sara and Ava in the room surprised.
“So that makes her around 38, if she served an active duty for a period of 20 years and started at 18.” Sara calculated In which Ava took the opportunity to tease Sara.
“Hey Mrs. Green, stop drooling. She’s only a year older than me, and you’ve slept with women older than that before,” Ava earned a punch from Sara.
“Time travel remember, so technically they were around the same age rage.”
“Yeah that doesn’t stop the fact that you slept with the Queen of France,” Ava patted Sara’s back and walked out.
Though the training lasted a period of two weeks, Sara always found excuses to stop by the Bureau. By the end of the training, you were a Bureau agent for another two weeks before Sara stole you as a Legend. Ava wasn’t all that happy as she lost one of her best agents, Sara on the other hand wouldn’t give up the chance to rub it in Ava’s face.
As a Legend it was no doubt that Sara has developed feelings for you, that isn’t pure lust. She even went as far as to ask Gary your likes and dislikes. She planned a little date in the 1980s but of course nothing ever went according to plan and you two ended up fighting time pirates.
Eventually after much convincing to go to the MedBay from your Captain, you finally got that private tour Sara promised on your first meeting.

April 18th, 2020. Week Twenty Two.
Sara actually smiled as she watched her crew work. “Okay, you’re doing great Ray. I need you to take a left up ahead and Behrad watch your back.”
“Got it,” Behrad said as he turned around and took out the guy who was following him with a blast of wind.
“Aye aye, Captain,” Ray said as he took a left and reached the door. A displaced young Charlotte Brontë was being kept as a playmate for little princess Elizabeth and her sister Margaret Rose. If they didn’t return her to her time, then the whole of section of literature inspired by her could disappear.
“Hello little Charlotte,” he said, picking her up the toddler. Charlotte let out a scream of protest as she was picked up and taken away from her play.
Her scream alerted the guards, but Ray quickly settled her in his arms, and Sara watched as he reassured her.
“Hey, hey, It’s okay,” Ray said as he gently bounced her and carried her out of the room. “My name is Ray and I’m here to take you home. Back to your Mom and Dad and your sisters and who has a funny mustache?”
Ray leaned over to tickle her cheek, earning a giggle from Charlotte after she had reached up to grab his fake mustache that he had worn for the mission and for Nora. Sara had seen the look they had been giving each other all morning.
Charlotte was still giggling as Ray made his escape with Nora and Nate, keeping the future king and queen occupied. Sara looked back to see that Charlie, Ava, Mick, and Zari had all managed to keep the guards away from Ray, but there were several others headed toward him.
“Ray time to go. Ava, Mick, I need you to catch up with Ray and head off the guards that are heading towards them. Everyone else get ready to go and head for the jump ship.”
They all split off and Behrad, Charlie, and Zari kept the guards running around so that everyone else could make their escape. Mick and Ava caught the guards and kept them from Ray in a team-up take down that reminded Sara of how far their friendship had come. The four of them made the jump with Ava’s time carrier.
“Alright everybody, Charlotte and Ray are on the ship,” Sara said in her com watching as the guards gained on them. “Everyone else head back.”
They all circled back to the Jumpship and soon they were all settled on the bridge. Sara managed to steal Charlotte from Ray and they both cooed over her, but Charlotte leaned over to play with Ray’s mustache. When they walked on to the bridge Nora came over to them and untangled the little girl’s fingers from his hair. Sara passed Charlotte over to Ray and watched them both gaze lovingly at the little girl as Ray put his extra arm around Nora.
“Do you two want to take her back?” Sara offered, seeing how smitten they were with her.
“If it’s alright with you Captain?” Ray said not taking his eyes off Nora and Charlotte.
“Go on,” Sara said, waving them off. “Just make sure you check in when you get back.”
Nora and Ray nodded, never taking their eyes off of Charlotte as Ray continued to bounce her. Nora procured a bit of magic that swirled around Charlotte’s head as she cooed and reached up to chase the wisps of blue. They both stepped through the portal and closed it behind them, and Sara turned around to look at the rest of the team.
Most of them we’re out of breath, but whole and unharmed. “Well, I’d say that that was a huge success. Good job guys, I’m proud of us!”
They all smiled and beamed at her praise and Ava came over to put her arm around her waist and gave her a gentle squeeze.
“All right go on get out of here,” Sara said as she turned to hold Ava’s hips and bring her closer, pulling Ava down to greet her with a kiss.
The Legends knew better than to stick around and soon they were all alone, except for little Laurel who moved around like a fish in her belly.
“That actually did go really well,” Ava said, putting her hands on Sara’s belly.
The sweater Sara was wearing this morning was thick, but it barely hid her bump. At twenty-two weeks Sara was basically the size of half a basketball and her belly now curved out from under her breasts. Sara was still getting more used to Laurel taking over her abdomen.
“I guess I kinda overstepped, trying to take over for you, I’m sorry Sara,” Ava said, tilting her head and looking at her with soft eyes.
“Thanks, but It was nice to have you around, an extra set of hands has been really nice,” Sara said, leaning into her. “Even if you did go rogue and lock up the butler.”
“He was onto us.” Sara set her with a look and Ava looked down and bit her lip, but smiled. “Sorry, Captain Lance.”
Sara reached up and put a hand under Ava’s chin, tipping her head back up so she could kiss her. “You are always forgiven.”
Ava smiled and leaned back in to kiss her again. Their lips melted together and they enjoyed their passionate kiss. Their hands wandered under clothes and lips trailed down necks. Sara moaned and tugged at Ava’s blouse that just had to be buttoned up to her chin.
“Were back!” Nora announced, and she and Ray stepped through the portal and back onto the bridge.
Ava spin around and groaned, shifting to stand at Sara’s side, but slipping them down to her rest on her waist.
Nora had a knowing and huge smile on her face, but Ray was mortified to know they had potentially walked into something.
“That’s great, Ava time to go,” Sara said, pulling her away and opened a portal straight into their bedroom.
Nora laughed as she watched them go. “That’s not a bad idea, you know?”
“What is?”
That was all he got out before Nora’s lips were on his and she was ravaging him. Nora pushed Ray up against the wall and he held her waist and welcomed her lips. She loved the feel of his mustache tickling her cheeks and her cupid’s brow. She loved the feel of his chest under her hands as she ripped open his shirt, letting the buttons fly. She loved the way his big arms wrapped around her, always making her feel safe. She loved the way his pants pressed against her, telling her exactly how much he wanted her.
Nora reached down to Ray’s pants, feeling him moan and melt against her. She had just pulled down his zipper when.
“Hey, your back. Have you told Cap yet?” Nate’s said waltzing back onto the bridge, completely oblivious to their actions.
“Well, yeah, I guess Sara knows we’re back,” Ray said fumbling with his words. All he could think about was where Nora was pressed up against him and what she was about to do. “What did you need Nate?”
“Oh well, Behrad and I were just wondering…”
“Sorry Nate,” Nora said rather curtly. “We’re busy.”
And with that, she pulled Ray away to their own bedroom.

Ava wiped her hands on the rag after setting the pot of soup on a hot pad on the table. She smiled down at the meal she had prepared. She had burned the meatballs, but the rest of the soup was cooked to perfection. Ava put her apron over her chair before heading upstairs to get Sara.
“Sara dinner’s ready,” Ava called out down the hall, walking over to the nursery.
“Okay.”
She heard Sara’s broken voice and immediately dashed into the room. Sara was sitting on the floor next to the bookshelf they had put together that afternoon, silently sobbing.
“Sara, sweetie, what’s wrong?” Ava asked, seeing the light tears upon her cheeks.
“Oh, it’s nothing serious,” Sara said, looking down at her lap. “It’s just that my ring doesn’t fit.”
“Oh baby,” Ava said, kneeling down in front of her as Sara broke out in a fit of tears as she held her ring. Ava took a look at the ring that Sara tried to fit on her finger, but it refused to go over her swollen knuckles. Ava took ahold of Sara’s hand and brought it up to her lips, giving Sara a soft smile.
“I just want to wear it,” Sara said, wiping her eyes. “And these stupid hormones are making me cry at everything.”
“I know,” Ava said, pulling her in for a hug, and rubbing up and down Sara’s arms as she hiding her smile behind Sara’s shoulder. The tears were now a daily occurrence and it was all Ava could do not to laugh or cry with her at certain things. Even if it did break her heart. “I’ll tell you what, why don’t we get it resized? I’m sure Gideon or Ray could have it done in a day.”
Sara pulled back, shaking her head as she took the ring off her finger and threading it through the chain of her necklace. “What if my finger balloons up even more and what if it shrinks down after I give birth and I lose it?”
“You won’t lose it,” Ava said, knowing how important the ring was to her. “And I want you to be able to wear it, especially after we announce our engagement.”
“Yeah, we should probably do that pretty soon, especially since everyone thinks you’re a jerk for not proposing already,” Sara said, with a soft smile as she placed the ring and the necklace in Ava’s hand.
“What?” Ava asked, paling at the thought of what the Legends would do to her.
Sara just shrugged and put her hand on Ava’s shoulder to help her get up because her belly had already put her off balance. “Come on you said dinner was ready and Laurel and I are hungry.”
“Sara, what do you mean the others think I’m a jerk? How long have they known I’m planning to propose?” Ava asked as she pulled Sara down the hall. She had only told Nora and Mona who had helped her pick out the ring and she made them promise not to tell anyone else.
Sara just smiled and giggled as they walked down the steps. “I don’t know I just heard something about Mick and my Dad sitting you down and having a talk with you about your intentions.”
Ava’s face fell as she put her arm around Sara. “Well, maybe I’ll have a little talk with them about biting into other people’s business.”
“Oh come on Ava,” Sara said, patting her arm. “It’s not that bad. I think they’re just excited.”
“Well they can wait for us to announce it,” Ava insisted as she pulled out Sara’s chair for her. “But I’ll tell Nora to give Ray the hint to drop it.”
“Uh hum.” Sara took Ava’s left hand and smiled at her thinking of a way that she could get the Legends to drop it.
Sara couldn’t help but think about how Ava’s finger was as empty as her own. She wanted Ava to have a ring of her own. A simple band that Ava could wear at work, perhaps one with a small diamond that would match her own ring. Something that would mean that Ava was her’s forever, something that Sara could give to her in front of everyone they loved as a declaration of their commitment to each other. She knew Ava was a sucker for grand proposals, but Sara loved their little intimate dates. Perhaps she could do both.
Little did Sara know that Ava was thinking of something similar. Ava’s original plan was to ask Sara out and propose to her in a simple, yet meaningful and romantic way. Ava loved being engaged to Sara and she was over the moon that Sara had said yes, but Ava wanted that meaningful moment. Ava wanted to make a declaration about her commitment to Sara and Laurel. Now that she had the ring back she couldn’t wait to do this and it meant the world to her.
“I’ve been thinking,” Sara said, interrupting her engagement planning and having pushed off her own until she could talk to Nora and Mona about a ring. “I think that we should come up with a nickname for Laurel. I love her name, but I just think it might get confusing when we get together with Laurel, and my mom and Dinah Drake.”
“We don’t have to, you and Quentin are really the only ones that call Dinah, Laurel, and technically if we do Dinah Laurel Lance.”
“The third,” Sara added.
“Yes Dinah Laurel Lance III, I want to use roman numerals it will be easier for her, but then Laurel is already a nickname for Dinah. It’s more confusing when it’s your sister Dinah, your mother Dinah and Dinah Drake who I suppose is our sister-in-law.”
Sara laughed at the little family joke about Laurel and Dinah being married. “I guess if it gets confusing we can use a nickname. I just kind of like the nickname Lulu and we need a non-name nickname if we’re going to keep her name to ourselves.”
They had agreed to keep Laurel’s name between the two of them. Mostly to avoid the drama of everyone else having an opinion about her name, but it also felt special. They had a part of Laurel just for themselves. So they had agreed to refer to Laurel as just the baby or little Lance, but it was so hard not to call her Laurel. After putting a name to their baby and calling her Laurel, it felt different in a way that Sara hadn’t expected. Laurel felt more real with a name, more like a person. Suddenly Laurel’s movements inside of her weren’t just that of a baby’s, they were that of her daughters’.
“Well Lulu is nice and it technically doesn’t give away the name,” Ava said interrupting her train of thought as she helped Sara up. “We still need a middle name as well.”
“Dinah Laurel Ava Sharpe-Lance that’s her name I thought we agreed on this?” Sara said as she put down her spoon.
Ava avoided answering her. Instead, she took a piece of bread and buttered it. Sara sat with her arms crossed and ignored the soup Ava had set at her place. Ava huffed, put the bread down, and looked up at her.
“You don’t want her middle name to be Ava.”
Ava sighed and tried to think of a way to say this to Sara. “I like my name, for me. It fits and I like it, but I don’t want our daughter to have it.”
“Ava!” Sara said with intention, causing Ava to look up at her. “Do you know why you wanted to name our daughter Nicole?”
“Because I love the character. I mean Nicole Haught is amazing and it’d just be fun,” Ava said, blushing slightly at the fact that she originally wanted to name their daughter after a fictional character.
“Yes, because you loved Nicole Haught and you know that I love you. So every time that I say your name, I am filled with so much love for you and for your name. I want our daughter’s name to have the same kind of love. Look, you don’t have to agree with it right now, but just think about it okay?”
Ava smiled and looked down as she bit her lip before looking up at Sara. She reached out to her and came over to sit next to her on the bench. Ava pulled her in and they wrapped their arms around each other’s waist. It was a bit more difficult to press up against each other when it felt like there was a papaya, according to their pregnancy app, in between them. Nevertheless, Ava still managed to pull Sara into her lap like she always did.
“I’ll think about it,” Ava said, leaning down to drop a kiss to Sara’s lips.
“That’s all I’m asking,” Sara said as she reached up, put her hand on Ava’s neck and pulled her in for a deeper kiss. “Now come on, I was promised dinner.”
Ava smiled and Sara shuffled off of her lap and sat next to her as Ava dished her up. She laughed as she watched Sara’s face lit up with joy. As she took a bite of the soup, Sara moaned as it hit her tongue. “How come you don’t make those sounds for me anymore?”
Ava raised her eyebrow at Sara, who opened her eyes and just looked at her. Sara’s smile grew as she burst out laughing and Ava couldn’t help but join in with her own giggles. Sara pulled her in for a kiss, which was one of the reasons they liked to sit next to each other at Ava’s long table. Sara moaned against Ava’s lips as she tilted her head to let Ava have access to her neck. Where Ava laid soft kisses down her throat as she nibbled on Sara’s skin.
“How is that for pleasure Director Sharpe?” Sara said, as Ava pulled back to look at her. Ava looked into Sara’s eyes that sparkled with mischief as she ate another spoonful of soup. “Umm, but you’ll have to wait because Laurel and I are really hungry.”
Ava laughed again and putting one arm around her shoulder as she pulled her in close. “For you, I never mind the wait.”

April 25th, 2020, Week Twenty Three
Sara was definitely not hiding. She was just in the parlor hanging out, with the bridge doors locked, at a time when everyone thought she was at the Time Bureau with Ava. However, when you live on a ship with ten people, if Gary sleeps over, having alone time becomes trickier, especially when you’re the captain. Sara could have gone home to Ava’s house, but Sara was still getting used to attaching her name to the place she called home. Besides, she wanted to stay on the Waverider right now, as being home alone at Ava’s always felt too lonely. She wanted alone time not to be lonely.
One of the other upsides to living with a crew was that Sara was never lonely and she missed the little things about living on the Waverider. She missed seeing a friendly face around every corner, she missed eating meals with her family, and she missed being needed by her crew.
They’ve tried to rely on her less and less in the field these days, but it also seemed to carry over in their personal lives as well. She knew they missed her as their Captain and she missed being a Captain to her crew, and Sara loved being the mom friend.
Nonetheless, whenever they needed something, they would just start to ask her for help or begin a rant to her, and then they would just say nevermind. They would turn around and walk the other direction, which just made it worse. Sara didn’t mind helping. It was one of the few things she could do, regardless of her pregnancy. She just felt like everybody was treating her differently. Like she was fragile and breakable and one wrong move and they will lose her and Laurel. So for now Sara pouted, hid in her room, and enjoyed a whole box of egg rolls, because she was pregnant and she could.
Sara ate her egg rolls and had put on a horror movie that she was half paying attention to. She tried to get a few minutes of shut-eye, but something or rather someone was making it hard for her to nap. Laurel had decided to practice her soccer skills. While Sara loved feeling Laurel kick against her belly, she knew that soon she wouldn’t be so fond of Laurel kicking against her ribs or bladder.
Yet, for now, each little flutter of an arm or a leg made her smile. Sara closed her eyes again and tried to ignore the little movements in her belly and focused on the sound of the movie playing, letting it lull her to sleep. Her mind began to drift off and she started to slip into dreamland just as Gideon’s voice jolted her awake.
“I’m sorry to bother you Captain, but I have an urgent call from Director Sharpe.”
Sara sat up and stretched with a yawn. “Okay Gideon put her on.”
Sara smiled as Ava’s face appeared on the screen in front of her, but that smile quickly fell when she saw Ava’s worried look.
“Sara I need you to put the Waverider on lockdown right now and proceed with decontamination. Then you and your crew need to be tested for COVID-19. There has been an outbreak at the Bureau and so far ten agents have tested positive for the virus. We are on lockdown down here and are currently testing every single agent.”
Ava took a deep breath as she finished, before looking up at Sara and trying to smile despite the worry that still hung in her eyes. “But I don’t want you to worry about me, okay. Miranda vaccinated us against this when you first got pregnant. So far it doesn’t look like this agent has come into contact with you or your crew, but he could have spread it to others who did.”
“Like Gary.” Sara trailed off as Ava mournfully nodded.
Sara took a moment to take her in. Ava looked so frightened as she spoke to Sara, but her voice never wavered, as she used her Director’s voice. She never did that anymore unless they were fighting, or when she was extremely worried. Sara stood up and took a step towards the monitor as if it could bring them closer together.
“Gideon put the ship on lockdown and began to sanitize the empty rooms. Tell the team what’s going on and that I’ll explain it further to them in a second.” Sara said looking over at Gideon’s halo projection that had appeared next to the monitor.
“Of course Captain,” Gideon said, before disappearing.
The emergency door to the parlor closed off and Gideon tinted the glass walls black. Sara could hear the rest of the doors closing around the ship. The parlor’s glass walls tinted black to protect her yet, Sara turned away as the beam of UV light cleaned the bridge. Gideon would have to wait until she left in order to sweep the Parlor.
“How did this happen, I thought you were checking every agent as they came in the door?” Sara said, sitting back down on the couch and putting a hand over her belly as if it could add another layer of protection for Laurel.
Ava huffed and put her head in her hands. She looked like she was about ready to cry. It took everything inside of Sara to hold herself back and not to portal into her office right then and there.
“We were, but apparently some other agents thought it was okay to portal straight into work, bypassing our security. We’ve been so careful. We’re down to the bare minimum of agents and everyone has strict instructions to only go from work to home and back. We’ve been testing everyone as they clock in, but,” Ava looked up at Sara and she could see the tears collect in her eyes. “I’m so sorry, Sara,”
“Hey,” Sara said, tilting her head and trying to comfort Ava as best she could with her words. “It’s not your fault. You did everything you were supposed to.”
“But I could have been more strict with the check in’s and now I’ve potentially exposed your team and Gary. If he gets sick because of me...” Ava shook her head trailing off and put her head in her hands again.
“Gary’s going to be fine, okay. Oh Ava, don’t cry. It’s not your fault and it’s all gonna be okay, worst comes to pass and Gary just has to spend a few weeks in the Med-bay being waited on hand and foot by us, he’d love it,” Sara said, trying to maintain her composure and not cry as well.
Ava chuckled as Sara knew she would, and Sara tried to give her a happy smile even though she was filled with worry as well. “You’re testing everybody right?”
“Yes, the medical team is coming through right now and testing everybody and then sending them home. I think now would be a good time to shut down the Bureau for a few weeks. The Legends should be able to handle anything that comes up in the timeline, and I’ll help out as well.”
“Good,” Sara said with a nod. “You come here as soon as you finish, okay?”
“I’ll stop by the house and change and shower, just as a precaution. Then I’ll be right over,” Ava said, nodding almost too fast at her. Ava tried to smile and straightened her jacket, a sign Sara knew all too well meant that she was trying to control the situation again. “I should let you address your crew.”
“Okay,” Sara said, reluctant to part. “I’ll be waiting for you to come home. You know Laurel has been kicking up a storm. She hasn’t let me sleep and the only thing that calms her down is you singing.”
Ava smiled, knowing it calmed Sara down as well. “I’ll sing for you both as soon as I get there.”
“Even if we’re in front of the whole crew?” Sara said with a teasing smile.
“I don’t know, my singing talents are just for you.” Ava laughed and seemed to relax back into her chair. "I’ll make sure my employees are tested and treated and I’ll be over there before you know it. Who knows maybe we will get done before you, and I’ll be the one waiting."
Sara nodded, the smile returning to her face. “I don’t know. Gideon is much faster than your crew.”
“Well, it looks like they’re approaching my office,” Ava said, looking past the camera and out her window.
“See you soon?” Sara asked, seeing that the worry had returned to Ava’s face.
“Promise,” Ava said, with a weary smile.
“We love you,” Sara said, feeling Laurel kick against her hand, she had been saying it to Ava for both of them as it just felt right.
“I love you both too.”
Ava cut the feed and Sara stared at the monitor for a moment trying to get her nerves under control. She sat back down on the couch feeling light headed and took a few deep breaths. As soon as she felt like she could talk again Sara looked up at the monitor where Gideon’s face had reappeared, silently watching over her.
“Alright Gideon, show me the team.”
Gideon pulled up the rest of the team members on the monitor in front of her as Sara stood up again to adress them. As soon as they saw her they all started talking a mile a minute with questions of what was going on.
Sara watched as Ray and Nora just looked at her with their big sad eyes from the lab. She then turned to see Mona in a full-on panic as she paced in the library with the words coming out of his mouth a mile a minute. Nate was also there and was trying and failing to reassure her. Sara could barely catch a word Mona said other than that she was worried for them. Constantine and Behrad were also talking and so was Charlie as she quipped at them in the background, looking uneasy but trying to appear relaxed. Rory was in the kitchen and was yelling about the food fabricator being shut off.
It was dizzying to look at and on top of the worry Sara felt lightheaded and reached back to put a hand on the arm of the chair as she eased herself into it. That was when they all grew quiet as they watched her.
“Sara are you alright?” Ray asked.
Sara put her head in her hands and tried to find the words to tell them what was going on. There was no easy way to say that they had been potentially exposed to a pandemic.
Sara looked up and took a deep breath. “I’m fine, but Ava just called and said that we have potentially been exposed to the COVID-19 virus.”
It descended back into chaos and panic after that as everyone shouted in outrage and began talking all at once.
“I just would just like to remind everyone that although the pandemic is very serious and the COVID-19 virus does kill a lot of people in the year 2020. This ship is from the year 2166  we do have a cure for the virus as well as a vaccine to prevent it, which you will all be receiving after you test negative for the virus.”
Gideon’s calming words put them all at ease and Sara smiled as she looked up at Gideon’s face on the monitor.
“Gideon is right,” Sara said, squaring her shoulders and sitting up straighter. “Now one at a time, you are all going to proceed to the Med-Bay to get tested, then vaccinated. Then you are going to go back to your rooms until Gideon has cleared everyone.”
“You should go first, Sara,” Ray piped up.
The rest of the crew immediately agreed with him in a chorus of voices that made Sara smile. “Guys relax, Miranda already vaccinated me and Ava against the virus at the start of my pregnancy.”
“Oh thank god,” Mona sighed.
That’s when they all start talking again as they all expressed relief and joy that she and Laurel would be fine.
“I would kill the person that infected you and Ava,” Nora said with a stone expression.
“Well… I… wouldn’t help you!” Ray stated and then continued to fumble over a speech to her against murder.
“I would,” Rory said, nodding at Nora.
“Okay nobody’s murdering anyone,” Sara said, trying to get their attention again and failing. Laurel kicked around inside of her and Sara looked down at her little baby and whispered to them. “I know it’s weird, but it’s just them showing that they love us.”
“Aw,” Zari cooed, leaning in closer as if she could see it. “Did the baby kick?”
“Oh I wanna see,” Charlie said, leaning in and presumably pressing her face up against the monitor.
“Hey me too,” Nate added.
“Hey guys wait,” Ray said, turning away from Nora to address them on the screen. “You know how Sara feels about us asking to put our hands on her belly and I’m sure she feels the same way about showing us the baby’s kicks.”
“This is my baby,” Charlie said, reaching out and putting their hand on the monitor. “And ain’t nobody going to touch it.”
The whole crew burst out laughing and even Gideon had a chuckle. After they all calmed down Sara sent Mick down to get tested first as he was in the high risk bracket, due to the years of fire scarred lungs. She wanted so badly to be there, in the Med-Bay, to oversee everyone’s testing. Sara felt like it was her duty as Captain to be there and hold all their hands. Even for Mick and Constantine, who would definitely refuse, but ultimately let her do it.
Despite knowing she had the vaccine, Sara still felt a twinge of worry. She knew that she couldn’t risk putting herself and Laurel in a position to be potentially exposed. So Sara just watched over everyone as they went and got tested and vaccinated before returning to their now sanitized rooms.
After Nate, who was the last person, tested negative and was vaccinated. Sara lifted the quarantine and had them all gather on the bridge. Their high spirits had returned and they were laughing and joking as they all walked into the Parlor. Zari and Charlie both skipped up to her with wide smiles. Which made Sara feel worse about her most recent decision, regarding their travel to 2020, as she knew it would be hard on all of them.
“Can we please feel her?” Zari asked.
Sara smiled, but didn’t move the protective hand from her belly that had been there since this whole thing started.
“In a minute, why don’t you guys sit down for a second?” Sara asked as she wanted to make her announcement before she let them gush over little Laurel.
“What’s wrong Boss?” Rory said mirroring her worried look.
“Look,” Sara said, crossing her arms and leaning against the table. “You all know that this is a worldwide pandemic. We got lucky that the outbreak at the bureau hasn’t transferred onto the ship and knowing all of this I should have vaccinated you guys sooner. I’m sorry, but I need to keep you all safe and sometimes that means making hard decisions that you guys aren’t going to like.”
“What are you saying?” Nate said putting his arm around Behrad as he looked over at her. Sara knew they were planning a wedding and that a lot of those plans hinged on them being in DC that summer.
“What I’m saying is that from now until the outbreak ends I'm allocating part of the Waveriders Med-bay for use to help find the current pandemic. S.T.A.R. Labs has already transferred over to help fight the virus and Anissa and Jefferson have set up a clinic in Freeland. I've already talked with Kara, Kate, Rene, Jefferson, Barry, and we are going to disassemble part of the Waveriders Med-bay and use it to replicate the vaccine and to treat current patients at a COVID clinic at S.T.A.R. Labs. Those of you who want to can help out, but because Ava has shut down the Bureau we need to be available to handle anything that comes up in the time stream.We keep half of the Med-bay up and running in case any of us need medical care while out on missions.”
Sara let her words settle over them and took in their faces as they processed everything that she had said. She looked pointedly over at Mick. He made a point to take Lita every weekend.
“What about our families?” Mick asked, his brow furrowed. “We can vaccinate them, right?”
“We can vaccinate them. We will do Lisa, Ali, and Lita, as well as my parents, Jax, Kendra, and their families. Nate, your mom, and Zari and Behrad, your parents.”
"At least we can help some people,” Nate said, looking solemnly up at her. “I’ll help Jax and Barry.”
“Me too,” Behrad said, patting his knee. “I can see no better way to help out our community which is especially important now during Ramadan.”
“We’ll help too,” Zari and Charlie said.
“Us too,” Ray and Nora added.
“Yeah,” Moan said, standing up.
“It’s not like we can get sick, ah,” Constantine said, with a shrug.
“I’m in,” Mick said.
“It’ll take a few days for the vaccine to work, but then we can all set up shop at S.T.A.R labs,” Sara said, smiling at them, so proud of her team for stepping in and wanting to help. “I know it will be tough, but I think we can do it.”
“Hey,” Ava said as she stepped through a portal and into the Parlor with wet hair. “Gary’s fine and he’s at home. How are you guys doing?”
The second Sara saw her it felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Sara was the captain of her ship, but Ava was her partner and she relied on her so much to help her with the emotional burden. Whenever Ava was around Sara felt like she could take a deep breath and let go, so that’s what she did. Sara took a deep breath and relaxed. She quickly walked over to Ava and wrapped her arms around her to just hold her.
“Can we make this a group hug?” Sara heard Mona ask and nodded into Ava’s shoulder.
“Okay, but not too tight,” Ava said.
“Good, because I really need a hug,” Mona said, going over and hugging Sara and trying to wiggle in on Ava’s side.
“Alright bring it in,” Ray said, grabbing both Nate and Nora, and soon they were all piled around each other, one big happy family hug.

May 4th, 2020, Week Week Twenty Four
“Hey remember that time we watched Constantine chug Rasputin?” Ava asked as she watched Sara eat.
Sara just nodded as she took another bite of her snack.
“Yeah this,” Ava said, gesturing to the mayo, orange juice, lime, and salsa mix that Sara was dipping her Doritos in. “Is worse!”
“It’s not that bad.”
“Babe, I made you a wonderful breakfast. After I burnt the first one, but this one is great. It’s my finest breakfast yet if I might say and you are eating…” Ava’s face was of equal disgust and concern as she watched Sara take another bite.
Sara just laughed as she took another bite of her snack. She and Ava had decided to join the Legends for breakfast after Ava got distracted and ended up burning the pancakes. So they headed for the Waverider as they waited for the smoke to clear.
In the past week, they had been partially docked at S.TA.R. labs, as they disassembled half of the Med-bay and moved it into S.T.A.R. labs. So far they had been able to replicate the vaccine and we're now in the process of sending it to several clinics all around the world. While they still worked on treating current patients, everyone had taken shifts at clinics set up in Gotham City, National City Star City, and Freeland. This morning everyone had decided to take a break and eat breakfast together, the first time the team had been together in a week.
Ray had made breakfast for himself and Nora, who wasn’t feeling good and was giving Nate a lecture on the benefits of butter in coffee. Charlie and Mona were now arguing with Ava over the requirements for a healthy breakfast. Mick was stealing from everyone’s plate, except Sara’s, as he talked with Lita. Gary was making eggs with Constantine, and Behrad and Zari had a typical sibling squabble over something involving her use of the totem on the last mission.
A normal person would see all this arguing as stressful and annoying, but Sara relished in this lovely bit of normalcy. She loved living in a house with Ava, but it was always just the two of them and things were quiet. Sara missed the non-stop rambunctiousness that came with a big family.
“Sorry to interrupt,” Gideon said as they all looked up to pay attention to her. “But there is a magical anachronism in a hospital in 1983.”
“A hospital, then it should be fine for me and Lau.. little one. The little one to tag along,”  Sara said, patting her belly after almost letting slip Laurel’s name as she looked anywhere but at her team. Miranda had okayed a few lighter missions for her, as her health returned and Sara was eager to resume her work.
“Just be safe okay,” Ava said, leaning over to put a hand over Sara’s and to kiss her lips goodbye.
“I will, I promise,” Sara said.
“Okay, you heard them, Get going,” Ava said, standing up and moving to put their dishes in the dishwasher. Ava turned around to see that they were all still eating and sighed. Ava had taken over Sara’s Captain’s duties for the heavier missions, but the team was always reluctant to follow her when Sara was there.
“Alright guys let’s roll,” Sara said, rolling her eyes as she got up and the Legends soon followed her.
“I’m going to stay behind,” Nora said, giving Ray a tired smile when she didn’t get up.
“Call me if you need anything,” Ray said, kissing her head before joining the others.
Ray sent Ava a glance and Ava nodded, letting him know that she would keep an eye on Nora.
“I think I’ll stay behind and keep an eye on the ship,” Ava said catching Sara’s arm.
Sara smiled and glanced over at Nora, who was still sitting at the table. “Okay, I’ll keep you updated though.”
“Thanks,” Ava said, leaned in to give her another kiss before she left.
Ava waved as everyone walked away then looked over at Nora who caught her eye and gave her a slight smile. Ava watched her push the oatmeal around in her bowl.
“Ray says you’re fighting a cold or something, is there anything I can get you?”
“I’m not sick,” Nora said with a shrug. “I just...”
“Do you want to talk about it?” Ava asked, getting up and walking over to her.
“No, I think I’ll just go lay down,” Nora said, putting up and putting her dishes on the kitchen island with the rest of the food. Ava frowned as she watched Nora leave. Both Nora and Ray were adamant about rinsing their plates and putting them in the dishwasher before they left. Ava stared at the bowl of oatmeal that Nora left out and wondered what exactly was causing Nora not to feel good.
…………………………………………………………………....
Ava knocked on Nora and Ray’s door with two mugs of tea in her hands. She’d admit that she just wanted to check in on Nora, but thought that the tea would be a good start.
“Hey, I thought you might appreciate this,” Ava said, offering Nora the tea when she opened the door.
“Thank you,” Nora said, taking a sip and smiling at the sweet and easy taste of the peppermint tea.
“Hey so whatever’s going on with you, if you want to talk about it I’m here for you,  you know that right?” Ava asked, leaning against the door frame.
“It’s okay,” Nora said, looking down. “I don’t want to stress you out or anything. I know you’ve got a lot on your plate with Sara and the baby.”
“Nora,” Ava said gently. “That shouldn’t be your reason for not coming to me about anything, when I tell you I’m here for you I mean it.”
Nora nodded and stepped aside just enough for Ava to come in. Ray’s room hadn’t lost any of the nerdiness that it had before Nora moved in, as Nora had only added to his collection of Legos and books.
There was a loveseat pushed against the desk and Ava let Nora set down before taking a seat next to her. Nora just stared down into her tea, Ava patiently waited sensing the heavy topic.
“So Ray and I bought a house in Star City.” Nora began.
“Oh,” Ava said, pretending to be surprised as she had already known about their real estate venture as it was the house across the street from them. Both she and Sara were thrilled at the prospect of having Ray and Nora as their new neighbors.
“We have been talking about the future for a while, and we want to settle down and start a family. You know that we always thought about adopting or fostering some of my fairy god kids. That’s why we bought the house, but Ray wants to start trying for a baby as well.”
That part Ava didn’t know about, but she kept her excitement contained, knowing that this was only a setup for what Nora actually wanted to tell her.
“So we threw all our contraceptives out and I thought I was ready and then this morning when I got my period. I was just so relieved,” Nora said, relaxing back into the couch. “And I know Ray was disappointed, but I couldn’t help it. I want to have kids too, but I just feel so ill-prepared. I’ve never even held a baby before. Let alone raised one. But the older kids, my fairy god kids, I love them and I know I can do right by then. I know what kind of parent I can be for them. I know exactly what kind of rooms I’m going to make for them. I know how I’m going to help them with their homework, and with their emotions, and I’m going to provide a stable house for them and I want that. I want to do all of that, but a baby? It’s just a whole different ballpark.”
“Have you told any of this to Ray?” Ava said, putting her arm around Nora and scooting over to sit next to her.
“No,” Nora whispered, looking down at her hands.
“Well maybe you should,” Ava said, trying to be as gentle as possible with her. “Because it kind of sounds to me like you’re saying you’re not ready for a baby.”
“How did you and Sara know that you’re ready for a baby?”
“Well,” Ava said as she bit her lip. “We had talked about starting a family before and we both agreed it was something we wanted, but to be honest, this baby was a complete surprise. We weren’t trying at all and I got Sara pregnant by accident.”
“How?” Nora interrupted her waving her hands around with a look of confusion.
“Well there’s this toy that we used and basically it created sperm from my DNA and well I’m sure you know how the rest goes.”
Now it was Nora’s turn to bite her lip as she held back her laughter and covered her mouth. “You got Sara pregnant with a sex toy?”
“Technically yes,” Ava said tilting her head. “But that’s not the point. The point is that this was something we had talked about and agreed that we both wanted. So when Sara found out she was pregnant, we both knew that we wanted to keep it. We wanted to start a family and we were ready.”
“But how do I become ready?”
“I can’t tell you that, because that’s not up to me, but when you’re ready, you’re ready and if you’re not, then you should wait.”
Nora gave her a sliver of a smile and she reached out to squeeze Ava’s hand. “Thanks.”
“No problem,” Ava said, returning her smile.
“But if you want to at least get some experience with a baby, I might be able to help. Sara mentioned that Kendra, Jax, and Lily wanted to set up a virtual playdate using the Waverider’s holo system with some other parents. They invited Sara and I. If you want, you can come watch. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.”
Nora took a moment to seriously consider the offer with a weary look in her eyes as she took another sip of the tea. “Um, I guess I could.”
“Great,” Ava said with a smile. “If you’re ready, Jax should be by pretty soon to help set everything up?”
“Yeah just give me a second.”
A few minutes later Ava and Nora had cleared all of the furniture in the Parlor to set up for the hologram play date. Ava opened a portal for Jax who stepped through, carrying Martina with her diaper bag over his arm.
“Hey, it’s good to see you Jax,” Ava said, walking over to greet them.
“Hey Ava, can I leave her with you while I go drop off the rest of the halo projectors?”
“Yeah, no problem,“ Ava said, taking Martina from his arms.
Ava sat down with Martina and got her entertained in a stuffed animal as Jax walked through another portal with the other halo projectors.
“Alright, I just dropped off the halo projectors for everyone and made sure they all got set up. We just need to start the connection here and we’re good to go,” Jax said, returning to the ship and looking around the parlor. “Where’s Sara?”
“Oh well, she had a mission…” Ava began to explain before she heard the telltale sound of a fight and a portal opened up on the bridge.
They all watched as Mick, with his body behind Sara, guided her onto the bridge before disappearing back into the portal and quickly closing it behind him. Sara stood up straighter and dusted herself off before realizing Ava, Nora, and Jax were all staring at her and gave them one of her winning smiles.
“Hey great, I’m back just in time for the playdate.”
Ava crossed her arms over her chest and raised one eyebrow at Sara. They had agreed that Sara wouldn’t get involved in any more fights, but with the Legends fights were a daily occurrence.
“I’m fine,” Sara said, strolling up and greeting Ava with a kiss. “And the Legends are fine and they’re handling it. It’s just a little shuffle, I’m sure it’s already over. Look, I don’t even have a scratch and I got Zari to play Captain.”
“Okay.” Ava dropped her stern demeanor and wrapped her arms around Sara. Relieved to know that she was okay and that she was being safe. Besides, how could she be mad at that smile, especially when she knew that Sara was doing her best to stay safe.
Sara pulled away from her and went over to greet Jax and Martina, because of the pandemic, they hadn’t been able to see each other for quite a few months. Sara missed her little brother and her goddaughter. Martina let out an excited squeal as Jax handed over the eight month old and she eagerly cooed in Sara’s arms as she greeted her.
“Hey,” Sara said to her as Martina giggled and patted her face, Sara started making funny faces at the girls, causing her to break out in an ecstatic giggle.
“Hey,” Jax said with enthusiasm as Sara finally greeted him, looking down at her belly. “Look at you, you look amazing.”
“Thank you, I definitely don’t feel the glow, but everyone says I have it,” Sara said with a chuckle. “To be honest, I think they’re just trying to flatter me.”
“We are not,” Ava insisted.
Ava looked back at Nora who had simply been watching them interact. Ava smiled at her and patted the armchair next to her. Nora slowly walked over as Sara and Jax both got settled with Martina on the floor with a few toys.
Ava could sense that Nora was uneasy and quickly put her arm around her. “It’ll be fun I promise.”
Nora just nodded as they started. Lily was the first to appear on their right with Ronnie.
“Hey,” Lily and Ronnie waved to them.
“Hey guys,” Jax and Sara greeted them.
“Lily this is Nora,” Ava said as she waved to them. “I think you guys have met before.”
“Yeah, I think we saw you with Ray a couple of times, but it’s nice to finally meet you,” Lily said, waving at Nora. “I guess we’re a bit early Ronnie.”
“Hey look who it is,” Jax said as Barry and Nora appeared next to Lily.
“Hey,” Barry said as he greeted all of them. “This is so cool I can’t believe we didn’t think of this earlier.
“Barry, you remember our Nora right?” Sara said, looking up at her with a smile.
“Oh yeah,” Barry said holding up 11 month old Nora West Allen. “Nora meet Nora.”
“Hi,” Nora waved.
“Hey, I thought that John and Felicity would be joining with their kids?” Lily said as Ronnie tried to pay with baby Nora.
“They were but little Sara, Connor, and JJ had school work to do and Felicity just got Mia down a nap,” Sara explained as Martina crawled out of her arms. “But Kendra and Hector should be joining soon.”
Martina crawled over and sat in front of them as Ava leaned down to pick her up.
“Here,” Ava said, popping Martina into Nora’s arms.
Two of them eyed each other warily for a second until Ava tickled Martina’s sides and the little girl laughed and broke out into a wonderful smile. Martina babbled to Nora about nothing and Nora nodded along as if it was the most fascinating thing she had ever heard.
“See,” Ava said, nudging her shoulder. “You’re a natural.”
“I don’t know about that,” Nora said, not taking her eyes off of Martina. “She hasn’t cried yet.”
“Just take it one step at a time.”
“Oh, I bet that’s Kendra,” Lily said as Kendra and Hector’s holograms came into focus. “Ronnie look, Hector’s here.”
They all watched as the three year old boys tried to hug each other and simply gasped the open air. Ronnie and Hector were the same age having been born only a few months apart and were inseparable. Although they were disappointed, the boys quickly brought over a few of their own toys to show to each other and quickly became engrossed in their play.
Ava chuckled as they played and looked over at Nora who still seemed nervous.
“Hey,” Sara said, as Kendra came to sit down next to her, leaned back and held her t-shirt over her stomach to outline her baby bump.
“Hey, look at you,” Kendra said with excitement. “You look amazing.”
“I do not,” Sara laughed.
“Yeah, you do,” Jax insisted.
“Yeah, you’ve definitely got the glow,” Berry added.
“See that’s what I told her!” Lily said.
They all dissolved into a light-hearted argument over Sara’s pregnancy glow which soon turned into more baby talk. Ava looked over at Nora as Martina babbled at her excitedly. Baby Nora walked over on wobbled steps and waved around a teething ring.
Martina tried to reach for baby Nora’s teething ring and was getting frustrated she couldn’t hold the hologram toy. She soon began to cry and a flustered Nora put her back into Ava’s arms. Ava gently bounced her and looked around and reached to grab another one of Martina’s real toys, a stuffed giraffe, and waved it around to get her attention. Martina quickly calmed down as she took the toy and immediately put it in her mouth.
Baby Nora looked up at them and thrust her toy into Nora’s lap.
“Hi,” Nora said to her.
“Hi!” baby Nora excitedly said, before trying to grab Nora’s knee and fell through and just sat on the floor as she half babbled half talked to Martina.
Ava turned a girl around so she could sit in her lap and talk to Baby Nora and watched as Nora let out a deep breath.
“Are you good?” Ava asked.
“Yeah, I mean holding Martina was surreal and I still don’t feel any more ready, but this is nice,” Nora said, looking away from the girls and over at Ava.
Ava smiled and leaned over to hug her. “Good, I’m glad you’re happy and I’m so excited for you and Ray to be our neighbors and have a family of your own. You deserve it Nora.”
Nora smiled as she looked around the room at all the kids. “Yeah.”

May 9th, 2020. Week Twenty Five
Sara opened the box for Laurel’s dresser. Why did everything have to come disassembled in a box, she deeply regretted not paying extra for assembly right now. She pulled out all of the little bags of screws before looking over the instructions. Sara soon had everything laid out in front of her, the tools, the screws, the instructions, and the pieces all in sections. She was determined to do things right and build it properly.
Dressers were a huge danger for babies if not built properly and secured the wall. Sara’s own mother liked to tell the story of when Sara was an infant and had ended up climbing her dresser drawers like stairs. The whole thing had almost fallen on top of her.
Sara took a deep breath. If she could fly the Waverider through time without a navigation system, code Gideon to respond to specific voice commands, and learn the ins-and-outs of how to fix a 22nd century ship, then she could build a dresser.
Ava with everything going on wanted to be extra prepared for Laurel and had gotten a head start on the nursery. They didn’t have everything they needed, but they were putting together most of the furniture and painting the room. Sara loved the fact that her family was able to help her put together the nursery. Even if her original plan was to wait until after the baby shower to do the nursery.
However, with the current pandemic, she didn’t think she would be able to have the shower. Instead, they had posted their wishlist online for friends and family to order from and have things delivered to their house. Ava and her mom had promised that they would do a shower after the pandemic had ended Sara knew that wouldn’t be until after she had given birth.
Sara grabbed the front and left side of the first drawer and reached for the screwdriver only to come up empty. “Hey, who took my screwdriver?”
“Ray has it upstairs. They needed it for the crib.” Zari said, not looking up from her phone.
Sara sighed and looked over at Charlie and Zari who were given the easiest task of putting together the mobile, as neither of them were very handy. Ava had insisted that the shapes mobile would be educational and soothing. They had all the shapes, wooden hangers, and strings out, but were consumed by the new app on Zari’s phone.
“Hey,” Sara said, snapping her finger at them. “Please put that together and then you can either go help paint or play on your game.”
Zari rolled her eyes. “I was just showing Charlie this new thing. It’ll only take a sec.”
“Okay, but then can you please get to work? I want all the nursery furniture set so it can go in as soon as they’re done painting.”
“Why?” Zari asked looking up at her phone. “Won’t the walls still be wet?”
“Yes, but I just want to get an idea of what it will look like?”
“But you can’t even see the color when it’s all wet and stiff?”
“Please you guys,” Sara pleaded, putting her hand on her chest. “This is really important to Ava and I’ve helped you, Zari, redecorate your room four times since you started living on the Waverider.”
“Well one can’t live in the same boring room every season,” Zari said, as if it was obvious.
Sara dropped her hands back into her lap and set them both with a hard look.
“Okay.” They both quickly agreed and got to work on the mobile.
Sara smiled as she looked back at the dresser drawer. She located all of her pieces, and all she needed was the screwdriver. Sara looked around but didn’t see it. “Hey, did you two take my screwdriver?”
Charlie snorted as Zari just looked at her perplexed. “Ray just came by and took it a few seconds ago remember?”
“Oh yeah, right, of course,” Sara said, trying to play it off even though she only had no memory of it. “I was just talking about the other one?”
“What other one?” Charlie asked, mirroring Sara’s confused look. “We’re using the Phillips head, remember?”
“Whatever,” Sara said, getting more frustrated as her memory failed her. “I’m just going to go look for another one.”
It had been happening more often lately. Sara would forget little things like where she put things, like her phone, the jumpship keys, or the remote. She charged up the stairs, determined to get the screwdriver, but was stopped by Mick at the top.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Mick said, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I need the screwdriver!”
He gruffed, but didn’t move. “I’ll have Haircut bring it down and help you build the dresser.”
“I don’t need help and it’s perfectly fine for me to be around house paint!” Sara insisted, crossing her arms. “I need a screwdriver.”
“It ain’t about the paint, Pantsuit told me not to let you see the nursery, as she wants to surprise you. So Haircut will bring one to you later,” Mick said, shooing her off with a wave of his hand.
Sara scoffed. “So you’re going to listen to her over me?”
Mick didn’t reply, just gave her a grunt, and stood firm in his place on the stairs.
Sara growled in frustration and stormed back downstairs. All she wanted to do was put together the stupid dresser and while she might not be able to do it here, there were extra tools on the Waverider. Sara tried to bend down to collect the pieces for the dresser, but it was a little more difficult as her growing belly put her off balance and she ended up falling on her butt.
“Let me help Cap,” Charlie said, taking some pieces from her.
“No I got it,” Sara snapped at them and jerked back.
“Okay, no worries,” Charlie said, holding up their hands, they looked briefly offended, but quickly school their features.
“I’m sorry Charlie. I didn’t mean to snap at you,” Sara sighed and then tears collected in her eyes. She didn’t want to be angry like that and snap at her friends, but her emotions seem to be getting the better of her these days. It was a crazy roller coaster of highs and lows that she was struggling to deal with.
Charlie and Zari exchanged a look, unsure of how to help, but Zari stepped forward to lay a hand on her shoulder. “There, there, it’s okay.”
“I’m going to go put the dresser together,” Sara said as she brushed off her hand.
She collected a few pieces of the dresser before quickly opening a portal onto the Waverider’s lab and promptly closed the portal behind her, not waiting for their response.
Once she was on the Waverider Sara took a deep breath and spread out all the pieces. However, she quickly realized that she had only grabbed a few random pieces and not even enough to complete a whole drawer. Sara’s tears finally broke free and she cried into her hands, letting herself truly sob as she knew no one was around. She walked over to the couch and laid down as she cried herself out.
Sara felt like she couldn’t do anything on her own anymore, and it made her so frustrated. She soon felt a kick in her belly as Laurel started moving around like she always did whenever Sara lied down. Laurel’s kicks had become stronger and more frequent. Sara wiped her eyes and put a hand on her belly and focused on Laurel, but the tears wouldn’t let up and Sara continued to sob.
After Sara had cried herself out, Laurel decided to do jumping jacks on her bladder and Sara quickly got off the couch and made her way to the bathroom. Afterward, Sara got hungry and went over to the kitchen, opening the fridge door and cruising the available options and quickly grabbed some nuts and berries.
Sara was about to sit down as she heard another portal opening in the hall and turned to see Ava step onto the ship. Sara smiled at Ava’s cute look. Her hair was tied back in a low bun, there was a hat on the top of her head and she was wearing a dirty old t-shirt and a pair of overalls spotted with paint. Ava looked around before spotting Sara in the kitchen and walked towards her.
“Hey you,” Ava said, returning her smile. “Charlie and Zari said you’d ran off with part of the dresser, after yelling at them and then almost crying?”
“Yeah,” Sara said, looking down at her food and picking at some almonds.
Ava didn’t say anything, she just stepped forward and was about to wrap her arms around Sara’s waist, but then stopped. Ava looked down at her paint covered overalls and Sara’s clean shirt. So she settled for merely putting her hand on Sara’s back and rubbing soft circles over her shoulders.
“My emotions have just been so up-and-down the past few days.”
“I know,” Ava said, having watched Sara’s emotion flip flop and knowing how Sara struggled to remain composed during such times. “I know you’re trying your best not to lose your cool with anybody and I’m proud of you for trying to do so. So you just take as much time as you need and we are all going to give you the grace you deserve.”
Sara smiled and looked over at her for the first time since Ava stepped through the portal.
“Thank you,” Sara said, leaning up to give Ava a quick kiss.
“Of course, do you want me to go get the other pieces and help you assemble the dresser in the lab?”
“Is the nursery all painted?”
“Not yet, but I think the others can handle it.”
“Okay,” Sara said, as she took Ava’s hand and let Ava lead her into the lab. While Ava was getting the rest of the pieces to assemble, Sara gathered all of the tools they would need. Once Ava returned they quickly got the dresser put together. As Sara stepped back to look at the dresser. She was reminded of the time they built the wardrobe in purgatory. She looked over at Ava and knew she was having similar thoughts.
Ava came up behind her and wrapped her arms around her waist, settling them on Sara’s belly. “I’m happy you’re on my team.”
“I’m happy you’re on my team too,” Sara said, resting back against Ava’s chest.
“And I’m really happy with the life we’re literally building together,” Ava said, as she rested her chin on Sara’s shoulder.
“I hope you’re only talking about the dresser because I’m the only one pregnant here,” Sara said, as Laurel started kicking inside of her again and Ava moved her hands to feel her.
“I know, I know,” Ava said with a chuckle.
“I hope you know because I just put blood in her capillary blood vessels.”
“Did you now?” Ava said in the tone that was slightly serious, but mostly playful.
“Yep,” Sara said, pretending to be very serious. “And because of that, her skin is turning pink.”
“Wow that is pretty impressive,” Ava said, nodding her head.
“Yeah, I downloaded an app,” Sara said, pulling her phone out and showing Ava. The app told them how big Laurel was inside of her, what kind of fruit to compare her to, and some facts about how their baby was growing, along with what Sara would expect week to week.
Sara could feel as Ava smiled against her shoulder as she pressed her lips into the skin exposed by Sara’s tank top. Ava just hummed and Sara melted further into her arms.
“You are amazing,” Ava said, her voice genuine.
“Thank you,” Sara whispered, not feeling the need to speak higher as Ava was so close. “You’re pretty amazing too, you’re just not building a baby right now, so.”
Ava scoffed at her and stood up straighter behind her. “Ah excuse me.”
“Well it’s true,” Sara said, defending her words.
Sara could practically hear as Ava rolled her eyes.
“I hope your behavior improves before Laurel is born because I do not want our child to be a brat like you are,” Ava said pinching Sara’s hip.
“Ow,” Sara shouted and spun around away from her. “I can’t believe you just pinched your pregnant fiancee.”
Sara tried to be playful with her, but it had really hurt and she was more sensitive these days. Along with the fact that she had already been crying, it was easy for the tears to slip out. Sara hastily wiped them away with her hands.
“Oh my god, Sara. I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you. I was just teasing you.” Ava did a complete 180 and walked around to face her and rub her hands up and down Sara’s arms.
“It’s okay,” Sara said to her sniffles “I was teasing you too. I just keep crying today.”
Ava just shook her head and pulled her in as she continued to rub her hands up and down Sara’s back until Sara was able to calm down and pull away.
“Are you ready to take the dresser to the nursery and see how the painting is going?” Ava asked when the tears had subsided.
“Yeah,” Sara said trying to smile.
Ava nodded and opened a portal into the living room again. Sara was surprised to see that no one was there. However, the lovely smell coming from the kitchen told her that the Legends were not very far, as they were not ones to stray far from a fresh meal.
“I’m going to pop upstairs and see how it’s going,” Ava said, squeezing her hand once again before letting go and heading up the stairs. Ava turned back to look at Sara when she was at the top of the steps and Sara gave her a reassuring smile as she wandered over to the kitchen.
Ray must have been the one cooking because there was what looked and smelled like a zucchini pasta casserole in the oven with just a few minutes left on the timer. Sara looked over to the dining room table to see that it had already been set, along with a plate of roasted vegetables. Her favorite, as well as some garlic bread. Sara snagged a spoon from one of the place settings and reached over to steal a bite from the plate of vegetables. Sara closed her eyes as she savored the warm and wonderful taste.
“Sara!” Ava scolded her as she quickly descended down the stairs.
Sara just smiled knowing she would get away with it and put her hand on her belly, if only for added effect. “What, we were hungry.”
Her tone was seemingly innocent and Sara accompanied it with a soft smile. Ava saw right through her, but sighed as she approached her and swiped Sara’s nose with her finger.
“You are too smooth,” Ava said, leaning in to give Sara a quick peck on the lips. “Now come on. We have something to show you.”
Ava smiled as she took Sara’s hand and lead her up the stairs. Sara’s brow furrowed as she wandered what Ava could possibly have in store. They couldn’t have possibly finished the nursery in such a short amount of time, but Sara trusted Ava unconditionally. They reached the door to the nursery and Ava hesitated, but smiled and looked over at her.
“Do you want to close your eyes or just walk in?” Ava asked her.
Sara knew that she wanted her to close her eyes, but Sara wasn’t very fond of being blind. Ever since she was blinded after Charlie’s sister Atropos showed her her true form, Sara hated to be blindfolded. Ava knew this and was always gentle with her when it came to her sight.
“Can I just walk in?”
“Of course,” Ava said as she put her hand on the door handle.
Sara smiled and bit her lip in anticipation. Although it was quiet, Sara could still hear her family, waiting for them in the nursery.
Ava pushed open the door and put her hand on Sara’s forearm as she stood behind her. Sara stepped in to get a better look and was greeted with all the Legend’s smiling faces.
“Surprise!” They all shouted and parted to the sides of the room to show her. The white modern crib had been put together and made up with a fresh gray sheet, as the shapes mobile hung above it. There was also the bookshelf and dresser that she and Ava had to put together.
Sara looked around the room, it was painted a shade of olive green. It was still pretty bare with just the few pieces of white furniture, but there were a few books on the shelf that made it look more made up. It was the beginnings of a nursery and now Sara could see more clearly what it would look like. Sara quickly became overwhelmed as tears filled her eyes and she put her hand over her mouth.
“It’s perfect.”
Ava came over and put her hand around Sara’s shoulders to comfort her. Sara didn’t realize she was crying until Ava reached out to wipe away her tears with her hand.
“Here Sara, sit,” Ray said as he stepped aside to reveal a recliner chair and Sara teared up again. It was the exact one that she had been looking at online a few days ago, she didn’t even add it to her wish list, but somehow they just knew. It’s a slim chair with soft tan fabric that gently rocked as Sara sat in it.
“We thought the bookshelf looked a little empty so Dad and I got you this,” Lita said, handing her a hardback picture book with a painted picture of the Waverider on it. Sara flipped through the pages. It was the story of the Legends, a bit more kid friendly, but with all of their adventures, leading up to the addition of a baby girl, their Laurel. “Dad wrote it and I did all the illustrations.”
Lita beamed with pride as Mick an arm around her shoulder smiling as well. Sara looked up at all of them, her family, as they stood before her in the room that they made for her daughter.
“Thank you.” Was all she managed to whisper.
“We were happy to help,” Ray said.
“Yeah, of course, anything for you boss.” All of them said, as they nodded and smiled at her.
They’re all distracted by the kitchen timer and everyone filed out of the room eager for food.  Sara took a moment to look around the room once more and Ava hesitated in the doorway, but Sara nodded at her to go. Mick was the last one there and stood in the doorway as well, watching over her. Sara got up and walked over to him, she just smiled.
“Yeah, um, but that wasn’t my idea I was roped into it,” Mick said, looking down at the ground.
“Sure,”  Sara said, just shaking her head. “You know, after watching you be a father to Lita, I’ve never seen you happier Mick and I hope that you’ll be a part of my kid’s life as well.”
Mick just nodded and he didn’t have to say what she already knew. They’ve been friends since the beginning although they had their ups and downs, she knew that he was always there for her, like the big brother she didn’t know she needed.
He looked down at her belly and Sara nodded as he reached out to place a hand on her stomach. Sara pulled it over to where Laurel was kicking her left side. Mick laughed as Laurel kicked particularly hard against his hand and gave her belly a light pat. It felt like she was being poked from the inside, but it didn’t hurt and Sara smiled as well.
“Come on we better get downstairs before they eat all the food,” Mick said, heading out of the room, but looking back to wait for her to follow.
“Don’t worry they’ll be hell to pay if they eat all the food before me,” Sara said, giving him a sly smile and pulling a knife out of her jeans, just to joke with him.
Mick let out a full belly laugh and put a hand around her shoulders. “You gonna let the kid keep knives on them?”
“Probably, but only once they get older,” Sara said with a shrug as they walked down the hall. “I mean you let Lita use the heat gun all the time.”
Mick just shrugged. “A girl’s got to know how to defend herself, yeah.”
“Yeah,” Sara said, putting her knife away and settling her hand over Laurel.
When they got down to the dining room Ava got up and pulled out Sara’s chair for her. They had already dished her up a full plate and just as she and Mick had anticipated, the majority of the food was gone as the Legends had thoroughly dug in. Sara watched everybody talk, there was one large conversation going on with little pockets of people turning to talk to each other.
Ava put her arm around her and pulled her chair closer and Sara smiled. She looked over at her and Ava leaned in to press a kiss to her cheek before she turned back to resume her conversation with Nora. This was her family and Sara wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Ok, but imagine this. One of the alternate Earths is the Shadowhunters Earth (or MCU Earth) and Kate just trains with Izzy (or Black Widow) and Kara is just standing there watching them get all hot and sweaty. Badass females training and turning Kara on 😹😹😹
I mean, firstly, really not a fan of crossing ove into DC or Marvel, hence my lack of Marvel-crossovers. There’s just sooo many worlds already within these two giant-ass franchises that it’s too much of a headache for me, so like if anything I’d prefer Kate to be sparing with Nyssa al Ghul, or Sara Lance. There’s already so many hot, strong, badass female characters within the Arrowverse that Kara could despair over. ;D
That being said, literally the only thing I could think when you said Shadowhunters and Arrowverse was this:
Tumblr media
(I’m very tired and sick and this was insanely funny to me in my head... xD)

She was the most popular girl in school, she was extremely smart, kind and funny; not to mention very hot, and everyone loved her. Including Ava Sharpe, she couldn’t tear her eyes away from the girl and she talked about her all the time. But, she had never actually worked up the courage to speak to her.
“I can’t, she probably doesn’t even know I exist,” Ava said as she tore her eyes away from Sara
 Or
Ava has a huge crush on Sara, but he never acted on it until Nora and Felicity give her some advice.

I’m curious about 1. Top 5 TV shows, 11. Top 5 female characters and 20. Top 5 overrated characters
Hi, thanks for asking!
Top 5 TV shows
(This list is based on my current mood, and will probably change tomorrow)
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Yeah, I know, what a shocker. It may be flawed, and old, and a little corny, but well, there’s a reason I dedicated a blog to it. No show means more to me than Buffy, and no show probably ever will.
2. Legends of Tomorrow
You know what, more shows need to be as batshit fucking crazy as Legends of Tomorrow is. More shows need to save the day via our main characters joining together to create a giant stuffed animal that hugs the bad guy to death. More shows need to give us killer unicorns, and sentient nipples, and hot girls with weapons who make out with each other.
Fuck the golden age of television, fuck everyone taking everything so goddamn seriously. Give me a pure, unadulterated, chaotic, drug-addled (I can only assume), queer, joyful, wonderful mess, and I will love and treasure it forever.
3. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Look, it’s just really good. I don’t really have much to say, beyond just like, it’s great, and it has great songs, and great comedy, and great drama, and great acting, and great writing, etc. It’s not perfect, because nothing is, but I do genuinely believe that it’s one of the best uses of the medium of television that I’ve ever seen. If any show could make me buy into the golden age of television bullshit, it’s probably Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
4. One Day at a Time
So there’s this interview with Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce, where they talk about how the basic structure of any episode of the show, is that there is a topic at hand, whatever it may be, and then we hear the conservative argument (Lydia), the progressive argument (Elena), and the mediator (Penelope). And like, yeah, that’s it, that’s the show. In that sense it’s super reminiscent of Norman Lear’s work in the 70′s - All in the Family was also basically just one big argument.
So, in addition to everything that’s obviously incredible about the show (funny, well written, loving, the representation, Rita Moreno’s very existence being a gift to us all, etc.), there’s just something so brilliant about the simplicity of the basic premise, the argument about traditionalism vs. progress, which is made far more poignant and interesting because the characters are Cuban American. Lydia isn’t Archie Bunker, because her desire to preserve her traditions isn’t rooted in bigotry, it’s rooted in the culture that she was forced to leave behind. And Elena, as admirable as her quest for progress is, often fails to see the importance of preserving that culture (illustrated most obviously by the fact that she doesn’t speak Spanish). And although Penelope represents the middle ground, she isn’t always right either.
Everyone has a point, and that’s what makes each new conflict so fun to watch.
5. Queer Eye
Queer Eye makes me happy. It really is as simple as that. It has perfected the formula of bringing joy to the world, and I think that is a truly impressive feat.
Top 5 female characters
(I’m going to keep it to one character per show, because otherwise I'd be here all day. Also, again, this list is based on my current mood. It could change tomorrow.)
1. Buffy Summers
Again, what a shocker. I don’t think I need to explain this one.
2. Elena Alvarez
I really had to struggle to choose between Lydia, Penelope, and Elena, because I love all three of them so so much. But I went with Elena because she’s the person I aspire to be. She’s awkward, and weird, and struggles socially, and she’s not always right, but she also fights for what she believes in, actively. It’s not just about arguing with her grandmother, it’s about taking action, even if that action can be a little awkward and Elena-y. And well, seeing a character like her, who isn’t just the regular armchair activist young person that’s so common on TV, is really important and inspiring and I love her.
3. Rebecca Bunch
She’s just kind of one of those characters that was iconic right out of the gate. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a character like Rebecca before, ever. And I haven’t seen any since honestly. It’s small stuff, like the fact that a character with Rachel Bloom’s body type is allowed to be aggressively sexual without being seen as disgusting or villainous for it. And it’s big stuff, like the portrayal of her mental illness, the fact that she was never written to be “likable” or whatever the fuck that means, but we loved her so much anyway. The show may have occasionally faltered, but Rebecca Bunch was always its center and its greatest achievement, and I will forever be grateful for her.
4. Regina Mills and Santana Lopez
Yeah, I’m cheating, this one’s a tie. My justification for the cheating is that these two are in the same category for me, in terms of characters that I love, but I’m kind of ashamed of choosing because of their garbage source material. So yeah, it would probably be more accurate to say that I’ve chosen the fanfiction versions of both of these characters, but in my defense, the fics are a lot better than the shows they’re based on. Also, kudos to both of these actresses for somehow making these characters interesting in spite of the writing they had to work with.
5. Petra Solano
Look, if it wasn’t already evident that I like type A control freaks, bonus points if they’re super fucked up, and extra bonus points if they’re into women, well it should be clear now. Petra in particular manages to walk the fine line of being easily the most tragic character of the show, and also easily one of the funniest, while also having one of the best redemption arcs I’ve ever seen. Idk how Grobglas and the writers managed to do all that, but it was really incredible to behold.
(I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Veronica Mars, Amy Santiago, Rosa Diaz, Sara Lance, Zari Tomaz, and a bunch of other characters who have probably slipped my mind, all of whom would have made the list if I was in a different mood, or was currently obsessed with them. I love them all.)
Top 5 overrated characters
1. Wesley Wyndam Pryce
So, full disclosure, I’m just really not a fan of broody men who’s character development involves them being violent towards women and then brooding about it.
Wesley in particular, I get why people like him, he is a very well written and well acted example of this kind of character. But I’ve seen multiple people suggest that he’s the best character in the Buffyverse, and that drives me a little crazy. Like, no. Wesley becoming a broody asshole doesn’t make him a better character than Buffy or Willow or Cordelia or Gunn or Faith or anyone else, and I am so sick of that kind of broody man story being prioritized over every other kind of story.
2. Logan Echolls (please don’t kill me)
I actually like Logan, I think he’s a good character. I just wish the show, and subsequently the fandom, hadn’t prioritized his character over pretty much everyone else not named Veronica. But I do like him, to be clear.
3. Illyria (I’m so sorry)
Like really, I wish I liked her more. I guess it’s just because I was pissed they had to kill off Fred for Illyria, and she spent all of her time with Wesley, which didn’t do much to endear me to her. I guess maybe if she’d spent time with anyone else, I’d get why people like her, beyond Amy Acker being really good at her job. But she didn’t, and I just don’t get it.
I couldn’t think of a fourth and fifth one. As it turns out, I’m not a fan of the concept of something being overrated. All of the characters I named just aren’t necessarily my cup of tea, but that doesn’t mean I think they’re bad, they’re just not for me. And I don’t really like saying that people are wrong to like things. Plus, I just really couldn’t come up with anybody, and I really tried, I’m sorry.

Do You Want To Build A Snow-Mick?
Belated Secret Santa for @dragongoddess13. I’m so damn sorry that I’m late for this, but I hope you enjoy it!
AO3
              In the cold night hours, two motorcycles sped down the streets of Washington D.C. Few cars were out, likely returning from somewhere like they had. However, none of the cars or walkers would have thought the two bikers were well-known heroes. Hell, they didn’t even know that they hadn’t just saved the world, but time as well on several occasions. All they saw were two bikers cruising along and passing each other intermittently.
              The duo made its way out of the city into the suburbs, noticing that the roads had been pre-treated. In the week that they had been in town, the forecast had called for snow on two different days. None had appeared on said days. That worked out in their favor with the bikes. Not that either of them would have minded a little bit of snow to make things feel more in season.
When they pulled to a stop on the concrete pad in front of one of the houses, Sara Lance took her helmet off and grinned at her companion. “Told you we’d get home quick.”
“There’s barely any traffic tonight,” Leonard Snart replied once his own helmet was removed. “If there was, my way would have been faster.”
“One of these days, we’ll have to see whose route home is better.”
“I know there’s at least a thirty second advantage.”
“Pfft, thirty seconds? Come on, Len.”
Leonard pulled out the keys from his pocket as they walked up to the door. “Still faster. But I’m not shying away from that challenge. We’ll just have to wait until we’re out of winter.”
Sara tilted her head. “It’s cold, but we haven’t had any snow yet since we landed for the holidays. I’m sure it’ll be fine within the next week.”
“Maybe so, but Raymond told me that there’s supposed to a snowstorm coming in a few hours. Showed me his weather apps and everything.”
“Was that where you were when Mick and Gary were cleaning me out with the dreidel?”
The door finally unlocked and both stepped inside, happy to shed their coats and shut the door. Leonard flicked on a light to reveal his smile. “I thought you were kidding about losing in dreidel?”
Sara dumped her helmet on the shelf. “No. That’s why I don’t have any chocolate to bring home. But Mick said you’d lose if you were there too.”
“Did he now?” Leonard raised an eyebrow. “If Lisa was there, she’d wipe the floor with him. I was the one who taught her to play, but she got better than I ever was. It’s been a long time since I was with other people for Hanukkah though. It was nice.”
“Good,” Sara reached over and squeezed his hand. “I’m gonna head to bed. You coming?”
“Yeah, give me a moment.”
She went up the stairs as Leonard pulled out his phone. He might not have had Ray’s fancy weather apps, but the website he tended to look at for weather was also reporting snow for the early morning hours and most of tomorrow. Not to mention that the temperature would be taking a dive as well. He might have been Captain Cold, but he was also a regular human who had been a little more prone to cold since his resurrection a few years ago.
On his way up the stairs, he made sure to stop by the closet and pull out an extra blanket before coming to bed.
“You sure we’ll need that?” Sara asked.
He shrugged. “We can get rid of it if it’s too hot.”
“Fair enough. Night, Len.”
“Night, Sara.”
~~~
              Sara knew that when she’d fallen asleep, she hadn’t been too close to Leonard. When she awoke, she was pressed up right beside him. This wasn’t something any of them minded. They’d been together for about a year now. At least he didn’t snore.
              What she did notice when she woke up was that it was cold. Sure, they kept the thermostat down at night, but it was never this chilly. As her eyes slowly opened, the captain of the Waverider exhaled and a cloud of white formed in front of her briefly. Awareness of how cold it was in the bedroom seeped into her body more and more. Sara pulled the sheets and blankets closer to herself to warm up more. At least Leonard had gotten an extra blanket on them last night.
Rolling away from Leonard, Sara could see the window and the view of the outside weather. Her eyebrows lifted at the sight of it. Careful not to wake up Leonard, she crawled out of bed to get a better look. She gave a small gasp at the chill of the floor when she tiptoed to the edge of the room. Outside, snow was piling up in the yard and still falling fast.
“Wow,” she murmured.
“Guess Raymond was right about the snow.”
Sara turned around to see Leonard watching her from the bed. “Did you just wake up or have you been pretending to be asleep?”
“I only woke up a few minutes ago, but you’re right,” Leonard agreed while Sara crawled back under the covers. “I don’t know how long it’s been coming down for, but it doesn’t show any signs of letting up. Makes me glad we went shopping yesterday.”
“Well, we had to since Ray had us all bring over something for Hanukkah,” Sara scooted closer to him. “Saves us a trip now at least. We can just have a snow day here instead.”
“Another brilliant idea from the captain. I like it.”
Sara grinned. “I’m not one to mess with when it comes to snow.”
He raised an eyebrow. “You do remember I go by Captain Cold, right?”
The grin turned more devilish. “Then this will get fun.”
~~~
              Within a few hours, the couple finally made their way out into the winter wonderland. Snow was still tumbling down from the sky. According to the forecast, this was supposed to be the whole day for Washington. Just in time for Christmas and Sara’s birthday.
“The last time it snowed this much in Central City, I think Lisa was still in middle school,” Leonard smiled as he thought back to that day.
“How’d that go?” Sara asked.
Leonard laughed as he remembered it. “She wanted to build the biggest snowman ever. Mick came over and helped us out. We got it to about seven feet before a snowball fight broke out with some neighborhood kids.”
“Did you win?”
“Pretty sure we did,” he shrugged. “You ever have snow days up in Star City?”
“They came around from time to time,” Sara told him. “Laurel and I always had fun because we could play all day instead of going to school. Sometimes we spent them at the station, other times it was just us at home. We usually walked over to this hill and went sledding with other kids from the neighborhood before the hill got bulldozed for new houses. But we always tried to make this ramp out of snow and see if we could catch some air.”
Leonard could easily see her doing that as a child. “We never went sledding a lot. It didn’t snow a lot, so there was no need to get a sled. When we did, I just repurposed an old trash can lid.”
“Clever,” Sara leaned down and gathered a handful of snow. Thankfully, it was wet and stuck together. There was nothing worse for a snow day than dry snow. “So... a snowman that was seven feet tall?”
“More or less by my estimate.”
“Want to try and beat that record today?”
~~~
              The snow kept on falling as the time travelers worked together to roll massive blocks of snow. As they rolled the snow up from the grass, it began to accumulate on the ground once again. It took a little longer than either of them thought. Neither of them had made a snowman for a while, so they forgot how heavy all that snow could be. In the end though, they did succeed in making the planned upon snowman.
“Looks pretty good to me,” Leonard grinned as they lifted the head up to sit on the rest of the body. “And definitely bigger than seven feet.”
Sara was frowning though. “It’s still missing something.”
              She bolted towards the house and up the steps. Leonard tilted his head and waited for her return. Within a minute, the door swung open and she came barreling down the steps with an armful of items. Once Leonard saw the carrot, he knew exactly what she was thinking. Even if they weren’t the most traditional of people, they needed a traditional snowman today.
“It needs to be a proper snowman,” Sara grinned as she showed him what she’d brought outside. “I grabbed the stuff that we weren’t using. Good thing we made stew the other day and put carrots in it.”
“Ah, but you’re missing some things too,” Leonard countered. “We ought to give him at least one arm. Maybe a broom for Frosty too.”
“Okay, so I don’t have everything. Want to get those things while I start decorating?”
              They worked a little longer on their snowman to make it look presentable. Leonard managed to find a pair of sturdy twigs sticking from the snow and unearthed them from the snow. Both were stuck into the snowman before he went to the garage. A rake ended up taking the place of a broom leaning up against the snowman. Some small stones pulled from the snow near the front of the house worked as buttons running down the snowman’s front.
In the meantime, Sara had climbed up on the bottom of the snowman to decorate his face. When Leonard looked up at her work, he had to laugh a little bit. The top of the snowman’s head was smoothed over and there were thick raisin eyebrows above two round carrot eyes (of course she’d had a knife up there). It even seemed like the snowman was scowling a little.
“Kinda reminds me of Mick when he’s grumpy,” he told her.
Sara simply raised her eyebrows, but a smile was twitching at her lips.
“Sara, you didn’t.”
“Inspiration struck,” explained Sara. “How could I ignore the call?”
He snorted. The two of them were used to being so used to being serious with the rest of the Legends.  Whenever they had time off, there was no need for that. They could let loose a little more like they had in the old days when they were just trying to stop Vandal Savage.
“We’ll have to send him a picture later,” Leonard smirked. “I didn’t bring my phone out here and the snow’s starting to pick up again.”
“Sounds good to me. A day like this calls for something warm.”
“I can always do cocoa.”
“We don’t have any whipped cream.”
Leonard shook his head. “That’s not funny.”
Now Sara laughed. “Just a little. I know you and your mini marshmallows. Now let’s go leave our snow-Mick out here and get warm.”
“Snow-Mick?”
Sara winked as they walked back inside and shut the door, embracing the warmth of the house. “I thought you’d like the pun.”
“I never said I didn’t,” he shook the snow off his cap. “Mick’s ego definitely will. Isn’t this the second monument that bears a resemblance to him?”
His partner sighed. “I’d forgotten about that. Maybe we should take a trip to see it soon? After all, we do have time to spare.”
“That we do,” Leonard agreed. “But right now, I’m happy spending that time with just you and not have to worry about any of the other barging in.”
“Or time alarms going off,” Sara added, kicking her boots off and standing up. “Aren’t I lucky to have you all to myself?”
Leonard shrugged off his coat. “Actually, I consider myself to be the lucky one.”
“How about this?” Sara kissed him. “We’re both lucky.”
Leonard smiled down at her. “Now that I can agree with.”
They stayed that way for a moment before Leonard cleared his throat. “So, hot cocoa?’
“Hot cocoa,” Sara agreed. “With mini marshmallows.”
“I can’t, she probably doesn’t even know I exist,” Ava said as she tore her eyes away from Sara
I wrote this post right before the purge of the Avalance tag. So if anyone missed it here’s a new slightly revised version.
You know that scene in Legends of Tomorrow 4x06? That one, where Sara comes to Ava’s office so sex her up and Ava loses all concepts of professional boundaries. Yes, THAT one.
It may be a little bit more special that this is about a wlw couple, but just the fact that all of this is happening to a woman is quite remarkably too.
I have at least NEVER seen a scene on a show (with this rating) where a woman gets to be so obviously and instantly turned on. There’s no doubt about what’s going trough Ava’s mind (and other parts) at that moment. On top of that it gets to be funny too. I feel I’ve seen this scene in a hundred variations where Ava’s part is a male character, but not once before have I seen a woman in that role.
And speaking of representation of female sexuality. Ever since the beginning of Legends Sara has been free to have sex with anyone she wants without being shamed or punished for it. Ever since her and Ava got together, on the top of my mind, I count at least 10(!) scenes with Ava and Sara that are either about sex, alluding to sex or talking about sex. And that’s only counting scenes where the two of them are in it together. In addition we got quite a few where one or the other are talking about their sex life with others. When I come to think about it, quite a lot of people seem to be invested in their sex life. But you know what they say:
Happy captain, happy ship!
List of the scenes behind the cut.
This is just from my head, not looking anything up so may or may not be accurate. I’m just putting lines from the scenes so you’ll now which ones I’m referring to, as I don’t remembering exactly what the names or numbers of the episodes are.
Scenes with both Ava and Sara
1. ‘Do you have a room on this ship?’ (Yes, yes she does.)
2. ‘You must have worked up and appetite last night.’ (Eating more than breakfast huh?)
3. ‘John’s fun… but he’s no Ava Sharpe!’ (Morning sex! God damn you Gideon, there wasn’t even an emergency.)
4. ‘Give me a tour of the headquarters.’ (Office sex!)
5. ‘Ready to be a partially kept woman.’ (They’re were obviously post-sex cuddling.)
6. ‘Don’t forget the bubbly.’ (Open for interpretation, but it was hot as hell so it’s going on the list.)
7.  ‘Should we get right to it?’ (Right to sexy town.)
8.  Netflix and chill. (No explanation needed.)
9. ‘Happy Birthday Director Sharpe.’ (...)
10. ‘I could use a shower.’ (Shower sex!)
Bonus: ‘Oh we got plans.’ (Not explicitly mentioning sex but we all know what those plans involved.’ ‘You know I love sleeping next to you.’ (You can sleep in the same bed without having sex, but it doesn’t rule it out.)
Scenes with others
Ava, Gary and John ‘You both slept with captain Lance?!’
Sara and John ‘Stop playing tiddlywinks with the Mrs.’
Sara and Gary Gary portals in eyes covered. He doesn’t want to accidentally portal into their room and find them [insert awkward hand gestures]
Sara and Mick ‘I’ve got… business to do back home.’ ‘I bet you do.’
Sara, Ray and Gary ‘I did NOT have sex with a robot.’ ‘No you had sex with a clone.’
[13/20]
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Psychological Torture, implied/referenced tortured, violence
Pairing: Sara Lance/Alex Danvers
Summary: There's nothing Alex wouldn't do for her sister
N.B.: Also posted on AO3
She was on the Waverider. There was the familiar hum beneath her feet. As always the ship was quiet and clean. So clean that catching a glimpse of her hands or the material of her clothes made them feel all the more disgusting. Alex took a breath and looked away to find where Sara was.
There, Sara was slumped in a chair as if she had fallen asleep mid-thought. Her head lifted as she awoke to Alex. “Are you free?” she asked, stretching as she unfolded her legs and eased herself onto her feet.
“Free? It’s only been an hour,” Alex said. Perhaps if she had been able to unlock those cuffs within that hour, she might be free. As it were, she had taken a power nap instead.
But Sara was frowning at her. “Alex, it's been a day.”
A whole-day didn’t fit in with Alex’s timeline, “No, I woke up, I went to the fake-Russian guy who asked me a few questions and then I came back to the room I’m chained up in and spent maybe half an hour on that lock before I decided to, um, take a nap.”
“It’s been a full day here. Spent the whole day getting ready for the big takedown.”
“Maybe it’s a time difference?” she asked, but it didn’t seem right. Both her and Sara had been meeting in chronological order. It didn’t make sense for a sudden shift in time differences.
“Maybe,” Sara agreed. “I don’t think so, but who knows.”
As much as she tried to think of options, she was distracted by how dirty she felt. On the clean ship, it was easy to see the soot and grime that streaked over her clothes. “Do you think your shower works here?”
Sara grinned at her. “Let’s find out.”
She was lead through the Waverider, which held a sizeable amount of bedrooms, to what seemed to be the only bathroom. The sink was awash with different products, but there were a toilet and a shower, two separate rooms side-by-side. Both of which looked like something you expected from a ship like this.
“How hot do you like your shower?” Sara asked.
“At this point, you could give me a bucket of cold water and a sponge, and I'd be grateful for it.”
Sara nodded, looking thoughtful as she adjusted the water temperature and turned the water on. Water came out of the showerhead, and Alex nearly dove for it. She could see the steam rising and already imagine the feeling of hot water raining down on her back — the ability to wash her self.
“I’ll leave you to it,” Sara said.
“Wait could you…” Sara paused, open to whatever she was going to ask, but it seemed ridiculous. Sara wasn’t running away. “Never mind, it’s okay.”
“I’ll stay,” Sara said. “Do you need help?”
“Please.”
Sara helped her out of her clothes, gently removing it over the broken arm that Alex cradled against herself, now free of any restraints. She could see the marks around her wrist that would take a while to heal — if ever — and bruises that ran over her shoulders and down her legs.
Sara gave her privacy in the shower, leaning against the sink as Alex took the time to wash, removing the layer of grime on her body. It was only for the dream, and she knew that when she awoke, it would all be there. But there was still a comfort to the shower. It gave her time to think over her lost time.
Lots of medication caused memory loss. Local anaesthesia was the most common one, that also had the side effect of paralysis. Alex didn’t find herself changing positions or anything that seemed invasive. If anything, the only difference seemed to be how exhausted she felt by the end.
But that hadn’t happened until –– “He’s a fucking telepath!”
“What?”
Alex opened the shower door, looking at Sara. “The man, the man who asks all the strange questions. That’s why they seem of no consequence. He’s a telepath.”
“Why doesn’t he just read your mind, straight out then?”
“Maybe he has low-level telepathy, or he doesn’t know how to read minds properly, or maybe he’s just new to telepathy, there’s lots of devices off-world in the trading market that we just haven’t developed yet. Not to mention that humans don’t think in strings of words and sentences all of the time, most of our thoughts are just a mixture of concepts, images and emotions.”
Sara blinked at her. “So he’s trying to trigger specific thought responses? Lead you into giving away answers.”
“All of this time I was treating it like a human one, but even in thinking of an answer in some way I was giving him something.” Alex began to feel the panic set in from the revelation. “Oh my god, I don’t know what I’ve shown him, he might know everything and is just trying to piece any other valuable bits of information together. Roulette might already know. Kara ––“
“Hey,” Sara said, pulling her eyes to hers. “Breathe. You can’t think of that now. You need to escape before you can worry about that.”
Alex nodded. Drawing in her breath, “Right, so I pick the lock and then… But what do I do if they come for me first? I don’t know how to guard my thoughts that well. It wasn’t something J’onn ever taught me outside of, you know, quietening my thoughts.”
“So, quieten your thoughts.”
“But that doesn’t hide them,” Alex said. “It just makes them…not-loud.”
Sara looked at her, raising her brow. “Well, you’re good at keeping your mind on a single topic in a battle. So keep your thoughts on a single subject, one that’s not going to give him any information.”
Alex drew a breath, slipping back until she leant against the shower wall. “Easier said than done.”
“Just focus on shampooing your hair, maybe you could learn how to do it one-handed since you’ve ––“ and then Sara pushed off from the sink and came to stand right before her. “Do you mind?” she asked, gesturing to her head. Alex nodded, watching as Sara rolled up the three-quarter sleeves of the white shirt before bringing her hands to her hair, massaging the shampoo over Alex’s scalp.
Alex shut her eyes, melting into the touch as she felt the shower continue to rain down on her shoulders and back. There was creeping anxiety in the different states of undress she had between herself and Sara, but the feeling of being clean and out of those clothes, and the way Sara’s hands massaged over her scalp far outweighed her modesty. Besides, this was a woman who had seen her with her clothes off before.
Alex tilted her head forward, washing the lathered shampoo out of her hair.
Alex felt her mind going back to the drunken night. She remembered flashes of moments in the travel between the dinner and the hotel room. She remembered Sara's laughter in her ear as they stumbled out of the elevator, onto the wrong floor. The way Sara's cheesy one-liners had honestly sounded so hilarious to her between drunken kisses.
That night had been freeing at the time before the morning came. She woke up with a headache, nausea and strong arms around her waist that weren't Maggie's.
It was funny because despite everything had gone through, she hadn't even thought of Maggie until now.
Alex felt Sara’s hand begin to condition her hair. “You don’t have to do this.”
“Well, I want to,” Sara shrugged, tilting Alex’s head back to wash the conditioner off. Her thumbs brushed behind Alex’s ears, down to the base of her skull, though her eyes fixated on what Alex presumed was the bump on her forehead.
“It’s fine,” Alex said.
“It’s going to scar.”
“Then it’ll scar, it won’t be my last.”
To that, Sara smiled at her, her hands still in Alex’s hair. And then she seemed to remember that Alex was undressed and stepped away, closing the door as she muttered about getting her a towel.
Alex didn’t know what to take from that. A part of her thought of how Sara had looked at her, and another part of her reminded that the last time she felt that way, crippling rejection had followed. She was not going to be leaping on women she thought was giving off vibes. No matter how much their eyes looked like an ocean amid an electrical storm.
Turning the shower off, she stepped out, wrapping herself in the towel left by the door. Sara then proceeded to drop another one on her head, leaving Alex feeling like she was five years old again.
“I found the metal you’re using,” Sara said, holding up the piece of metal. It looked like it had once been a loose steel wire. It was thin. Enough so that if she twisted it tighter and tighter, it would eventually snap.
“You’ll want to bend it further up, so it slips in smoother. I should show you how to make a rake, so it’d be easier to unlock.”
“It’s fine. doing it one handed is difficult enough.”
“You’re using the other the twist it then, so the pegs lock into place when you tap them?”
“What?”
Sara smiled at her and then proceeded to go into a lecture about how to pick a lock while drawing a somewhat decent picture with her finger on steam. She eventually had to get a pen and paper to make her point, but Alex was fascinated by it, nonetheless. It took her back to her studies back when she had first begun working for the DEO.
Most of it, she knew well enough. She had remembered to turn the pin slightly but had somehow forgotten to do that part while having a broken arm.
“Okay, I think I’ve got it.”
“Good, then it’s time to wake-up,” Sara said. “The sooner you get out of there, before you’re exhausted again, the faster you can get to Kara.”
Alex agreed. Although she was unsure in how to admit that waking up, after moments of cleanliness, comfort and friendship, made her feel nauseous.
Alex didn’t know what to expect. She didn’t know if she could make it out of there, or if that guy would creep his way into her head and somehow erase all memories of what transpired. Or worse.
The very thought of someone crawling through her brain made her feel violated. J’onn had always given her the utmost privacy that he could provide with his ability. To feel it used against her, felt…slimy. Like there was greasy slug trail all over brain from where he’d been.
She couldn’t wait to punch him in the face.
“Time to wake up,” she agreed.
Sara smiled at her, and then, what had to be pushing up on her tiptoes, kissed Alex's forehead. "You've got this, Danvers."
Alex woke up. It was dark in the room, and all at once she felt the cold against her. There were layers of dirt and grit on her skin, heavy coating of oils in her hair. If possible, she felt even dirtier than before she had fallen asleep. Dirtier and colder. And yet, she could still feel the imprint of Sara's lips on her forehead.
Alex sat up. She was going to escape.
Alex pulled the metal from where she’d hidden it on her person and bent it as Sara had instructed her to.
She jiggled with the lock, feeling her right arm complain at being misused. Without really thinking about it, she found herself promising it that she would see the best doctor to fix it, and would do all the physiotherapy exercises she would be asked to complete. Even that stupid stress ball one, if it would just hold out for a little bit longer.
The lock clicked.
Slowly, and then quickly, Alex drew the chains away from the lock. They were hefty, awkward, but she was able to carry them against her chest. She felt a bubbling laugh rise in her chest before she remembered that getting out of the chains didn’t mean that she was out of here yet.
Drawing a deep breath, she attempted to quell rising nausea. One step at a time.
Alex listed for the sound of running footfalls. There was nothing — just the sound of a draft outside of the door in the room.
Alex crept closer to the door that barred her from the hallway. She held onto the chains, bringing the weight against her chest as she eased the door open to the hall. It creaked into the darkness, but no one seemed to be there to hear it. Perhaps she had a chance.
Alex crept in the dark. She knew how to get to the break room, but how far would that have been from a door?
Was it a factory and this was the upper-level office section? A warehouse and she just needed to find the loading docks?
She crept along with the shadows, listening for any sounds. The walls all seemed to be those temporary ones that didn’t quite meet the ceiling. The ground was hard, concrete.
Alex went through a few open doors, jiggling a few locked ones that were probably leading to the exit, but more likely to nowhere. It seemed strange not to come across another person. Where the hell was everyone? She opened a few more doors, coming to dark, empty storage rooms. There were marks on the walls where signage had probably once been, but so far, the place seemed to have been stripped of everything aside from rubbish.
She couldn’t see cameras, but she could see fire alarms that had been pulled out, the batteries taken from inside of the plastic containers.
It seemed to be a long since abandoned building for something.
Alex found a door that led her into a small room, with a broken window. It was the first window she'd seen, and it looked out to the night sky.
Graffiti covered the room. Black and red spray paint that was just a bunch of kids random tags against some aimless slurs but none of that held anything aside from moments of Alex's attention as she looked at the door.
Could it be that easy?
It was a tall, heavy double door made of wood. She turned the handle, and it opened out into the night air.
Drawing in a breath of the air, she felt like she could almost laugh as she looked up to the moon. It was three-quarters full, and the stars were brighter and more brilliant than she’d ever seen before. How beautiful, how wonderful.
She drew in another breath and felt a giddy bubble rise into her chest as her broken shoes stepped out onto the loose gravel. There were no lights nearby, but in the moonlight, she could see hills sparsely covered in trees.
She'll have to walk up the hill to see if there was a town nearby to go to, but it was something at least. She was out. She could get to the next place. She just had to avoid being caught again.
And then she caught sight of headlights coming between the silhouette of trees. No, it wasn't going to be easy.
Taking her chains, she ducked behind the side of the building, to where industrial garbage was, and watched as the car pulled up into the large open gravel area.
The building's internal contents were strange, but on the outside, it looked to be an abandoned industrial site. Wherever she was, it seemed to be a loading bay for trucks.
The engine cut off, and the man stepped out, followed by the minion woman. They closed the doors of the car, the distant sound of chatter coming from them as the woman carried what looked to be a grocery bag and take away.
The man was holding a takeaway coffee. He took a sip and then he paused, looking over at Alex’s direction. There was no way he should have been able to see her, and yet Alex watched as he nudged at the woman and pointed towards her direction.
Fucking telepath. Alex tried to shut down the thoughts before she looked around her. There were a few waste containers — old, filled with rubbish like parts of the building that had been gutted out. There was no way she could sneak into one of them without being seen.
Beyond the bins were the trees. Holding the chains against her chest, Alex made a low run for the trees in the shadows, ducking into the scrub.
The tree was tall and smooth, a whisper running through its leave in the wind. Alex drew a breath and looked behind her where the woman stood at the waste containers, looking around.
She was a large, stocky woman and Alex already knew she was dangerous. As she watched the woman head around the bins, opening them up to peek inside, Alex made a move to the next tree.
“Come out, come out,” the man said in the distance. “I know that you know, Alex.”
Alex bristled at the mention of her name. How long had he known that and withheld it? Alex pulled away from the anger, quietening her thoughts. She didn’t know if he could locate her through her telepathy, or if he'd just been aware that she was outside.
The woman had stopped looking at the containers and had moved to the trees. She had a stick in her hand, or maybe a baton, long and thin for a better beating. Alex eyed her. She would need to get the advantage of the woman and overpower her first.
Alex went to move, but a chain jingled. The woman's head whipped to her direction before a slow smirk pulled over her face, and she began stalking over to her.
Alex dropped the chains, taking hold of the end in her hand as the woman came towards her. Alex drew in several deep breaths, feeling the race of her heart. She couldn’t let the adrenaline give her the shakes. She had to be fast and smart about it.
And then Alex ran forward, using a fallen bough to leap up and land onto the woman's torso.
With the end of the chain in hand, she cast a loop around the woman’s neck, her legs catching onto the broad torso and clasping onto her as she drew the shackles tight, wrapping another and then another loop around the minion's neck, before tugging her arms up sharply. The woman grasped as the chain, and Alex felt her broken arm wrench at the movement.
But she clenched her jaw, holding firm despite the pain.
The woman struggled to run sideways, shoving the side of the body Alex had clutched to against the tree, but as the seconds past, her movements weakened. The woman clawed, her nails dragging against her skin. She rammed against the tree and Alex’s head knocked –– hard –– against it, but she held onto the chains, listening to her splutter as the oxygen was cut off to her head.
She didn’t know where the man was, but he wasn’t here and even as the woman dropped to her knees. Even as her hands slacked and slumped in the dirt, Alex didn’t slacker her grip until she was sure.
She counted the seconds, and then she removed the chains.
Alex’s legs shook. Her whole body shook from the exertion of the attack. She stopped, waiting for her head to cease pounding as she drew her breaths, and then she rose again, looking over to where the car reained stationary. Its lights were still on, but the man wasn’t there.
Alex looked around, she didn’t know if he or the woman had keys, but she did know that the man knew her name, and if he knew that then what little he knew about Kara was dangerous. There was no way she was leaving yet.
Looking around, Alex tried to see where he may have gone. The loose gravel on compact dirt made it hard to see any signs of him.
Until a gun pressed against her temple as he came out from behind her in the shadows. She took a breath, quietening her thoughts as she looked out the corner of her eye, trying to catch a glimpse of him. “If you stayed in the cell, we could have gone through a few more sessions and be done with it,” he told her. Gone was the Russian voice, replaced by...an Australian one?
“For what?" She asked, "Information on Supergirl?”
“On you…or your sister,” he shrugged. “There’s something there, some connection between your sister and Supergirl. It's all too much of a coincidence.”
Alex hissed out a breath, feeling her thoughts edge towards that truth before they snapped back to Sara; Sara’s eyes, her smile, the freckles across her skin.
“See, who is that woman? You’re always thinking of her. Every thought is layered with that woman. I spent hours in your brain, going over every memory, every connection to find something, and every time you would draw back to her, but I looked. And there's no Sara Lance. There’s a Laurel Lance, but she doesn’t look like that woman, whoever she is.”
Laurel… A flood of thoughts came, and she could feel the man immerse himself in them. Alex struck, pushing his wrist away from her head –– the gun fired into the night’s air –– before she turned around to face him. She had the chains on his arm before he could pull back.
He reached for the hand with the gun, raising his leg to make a kick at shins, but Alex kicked at his chest first. She held her grip in the chains,  keeping him suspended between falling and standing.
She kicked him again, unwound the arm and watched him fall with the momentum as he dropped the gun onto the ground.
Alex grabbed the weapon before he could and aimed it at him, stepping back out of distance from him. “You move, I fire,” she promised.
He didn’t move, remaining crouched on the ground, halfway between reaching out to grab at the chain.
“The way I see it, you have two options,” she said. “I kill you, or you tell me what Roulette knows about my sister, and I drag your ass back to the DEO. Maybe you live.”
“Why would I tell you anything.”
“Read my mind.”
Now that she was aware, she could feel the cold shiver as something seeped over her, pulling at the electricity in the brain to read how she promised to draw out a slow, painful death if he refused, or drag his ass back to the DEO if he helped. Maybe there was a future for him, and he could find redemption in their group of misfits, it wouldn't be the first time.
“She knows about your sister,” he said. “She knows who you are, and she knows to use Maggie Sawyer and Kara Danvers against you. That’s everything I gave her. She doesn’t know about Supergirl’s weakness to Kryptonite yet. I haven’t had a chance to speak to her since last week, and I won't tell her, just...just take me to the DEO.”
Alex nodded, “Then that secret dies with you,” was all she said, watching as his face turned from disbelief into terror as she fired the rounds into his head.
His body crumpled, dragging at the chains and Alex sighed, feeling the broken arm throb bad enough to make her almost vomit.
She needed a hospital.
Alex let out a breath and shut her eyes, waiting for the guilt, the self-pity to come. But it didn’t — not this time.
It’d been a long time since she’d killed an unarmed person, maybe she was just in shock.
Crouching down, she unwrapped the chains and began digging around the man’s pockets, removing his jacket and placing it over her cold body. She then walked over to the corpse of the minion woman, dug around her pockets until she found the keys to the car and went back to where it remained parked, headlights still alight.
She climbed into the driver’s seat and blinked. There was no steering wheel in front of her.
Then she noticed the other seat. It was on the right-hand side.
Alex moved to the driver’s side of the car.
Turning the ignition, she put the car into drive and drove out down the loose gravel road. She doubted that the two worked by themselves for Roulette. They’d have to have someone above them, someone to report to whilst Roulette spun her web.
The road was quiet. Alex didn’t know where she was, but it was a backroad, going by the gravel. The drive went for a while, and then it turned onto a bitumen road. And then Alex had some idea of where she was. There was a green sign telling her how many miles it was to the next town. 120 to Tarcutta. Well, the lettering seemed to indicate English so far, which ruled out both Russia and China.
It wasn’t until the next sign said ’50 - Tarcutta' (which was a lot faster than it should have been, Alex felt) that she saw another car, driving on her side of the road. It honked at her and Alex realised that perhaps she was driving on the wrong side of the road, the driver’s seat was on the wrong side, so it made sense.
Which she should have known, but Alex had just escaped and was still feeling heart palpitations from the event, expecting a car to run her off the road at any moment. So she was giving herself some slack.
The car and road narrowed it down further. Maybe she was in Britain? The English drove on the left, didn't they?
“What the actual fuck,” she whispered under her breath. Why had she been taken to England of all places? Why in that building? Why anything?
Was it all for Supergirl?
Alex continued to drive, eyeing the speedometer that was a little touchier than she was used to, it wasn’t as though the answers would appear in the cold of the night.
Tarcutta seemed to be a small town, though no-one was around. The police station was a little house, the lights dark, and she had no idea where anything was, like a hospital. There was a couple of truck pulled up in what seemed to be a truck parking area in the middle of two roads, but they were all in their cabs, deep asleep.
At the gas station, there was a sign out for cherries that seemed to be a rather steep price for cherries, though it was asking it for by the kilogram so maybe her math was off.
Besides, she still had manacles on her arms, and 120 miles wasn’t that far from where she’d been. The further she got from that place, the safer she would feel.
Alex navigated through the central part of town, down what seemed to be labelled the Old Hume Highway — then continued for what felt like maybe another hour. It was a relatively straight strip, and her mind was getting a little fuzzy as she drove. Eventually, she came to a place called Albury-Wodonga.
For a few miles, it seemed to be nothing but empty land, void of anything but what appeared to be farmland, going by their fence lines.
Eventually, sign's began to advise her to pull off the highway to get into the industrial side of the town.
Blue signs were leading to the hospital as Alex made her way through the quiet streets. There were a few drunk kids were walking around McDonald's, there were even a few cars around, but no one minded her. As much as she wanted to get out and shout for help, she knew the best support would be at either a police station or a hospital. Given that there were no signs to the police station that she could find yet, but plenty to the hospital, she continued on her path there.
It seemed to be a far way out of what she had presumed to be the town. Whatever the place was, most buildings didn’t go beyond two stories, and even that was being generous. Everything seemed to be single storied blocks. Only the new development seemed to rise above that.
The hospital was easy to see once she arrived, and the emergency room was clearly labelled.
Alex went there. She went inside and watched heads watch her strangely as she went to the section that read ‘see Nurse first’ and then she stood there as a nurse came to the window.
“I need your help,” she said, her voice was hoarse. It felt sore, and she couldn’t remember the last time she’d drunk any water.
Whether it was her appearance, the chains or the way she cradled her broken arm, the woman brought her from the waiting room of the ER, into her section despite the ten or so people waiting their turn.
The Nurse asked her a few questions which Alex found her self restrictively answering.
The woman was middle-aged with dark hair and crinkles around her eyes and face. She didn’t smile much, but she listened to what Alex said.
Alex told her she'd been kidnapped that she had escaped not far out from a town that seemed to be about fifty or so miles (kilometres?) north. She said she had a broken arm, that she wasn’t sure how long the bone had been fractured.
In response, the woman explained to where she was. (Australia! Australia had the same wall sockets as China, of course. How had she forgotten that?)
The woman gave her a bottle of water and Alex downed it fast. The nurse's eyes widened before softening in sympathy as she offered her another bottle.
"Thank you," Alex said, trying not to cry at the gesture.
"We have a few more questions for you if you're ready?"
"Okay," Alex said.
After the nurse had finished the triage part of the questioning, Alex asked for the American Embassy number, "and a phone line. I have no access to money, but once I can get in contact with the embassy, I'll be able to access all of that."
"I'll see what I can do. Our priority is your health first."
A nurse lead her into intensive care where a different nursing staff took over, asking her a few questions. There was a doctor in turquoise scrubs that was awkwardly danced around topics that Alex cut through. "I wasn't sexually assaulted. I was hit a few times, and I have an avulsion fracture to my radius. As you can I've also been chained," she said lifting the manacles. "All I want is a good shower if that's possible? I want to feel clean. At least cleaner."
"I can have that arranged."
A nurse in blue helped to shower her, and it was as good as her dream had been, despite the way the room smelt of chemicals.
She’d helped wash her hair, reach her back and didn't once ask questions about any of the scars or marks, though Alex saw her fearfully curious eyes dancing from new injuries to old.
Once Alex was clean, the nurse provided her with a hospital gown with, unfortunately, an adult diaper as it was all they had on that floor. "Look, I'll take anything clean at this stage," she said, moving into it.
It was a little embarrassing, she thought, but at the same time, it was clean cotton against her clean skin and Alex wanted nothing to do with the ruined clothes -- though she noticed the nurse bag it with her gloves. It probably to supply as evidence for the police.
Once Alex was back on the emergency department's pseudo beds, she began talking about things to expect in the hospital, future medical investigations, what treatment to expect, what the procedures in the hospital were around crisis, the rhythm of words felt soothing like she knew what was going to happen, so it was all going to be okay.
The nurse didn’t talk about the mangles except to make sure to clean her wrists as best she could with the obstruction.
Twice she checked with her emotionally. Twice Alex brushed the answer off tiredly.
And then Alex was hooked up to an IV for fluids, given some drugs fand an x-ray for her arm. Two doctors spoke to her briefly, examined her injuries so far. They were blunter with their questions, although they asked them gently. They looked at her manacles, moving them around and considered options of removal. Someone brought up that a “tradie” might be able to do it.
Then there was more muttering as if they'd forgotten Alex existed as a person in the conversation. It began to piss her off until she saw the nurse roll her eyes and chuck her a wink.
Alex liked the nurse a lot.
After the staff left and the curtains were pulled back around her, she closed her eyes against and leant back against the bed and found herself opening her eyes every time footsteps came near her.
And then the police came around, introducing themselves with titles that Alex faded over. All of her words were muddled by this stage. She kept tiredly correcting herself or stumbling to find the exact word she needed for the situation.
The nurses were taking her blood pressure and heart rate by the hour.
“So do you know the perpetrators who kidnapped you?”
“There was a man, and a woman,” Alex explained. “I never got their name.”
A nurse appeared then with two trays of food. “Ham and cheese okay?” she asked. There were three sandwiches, two bottles of water and even some ice cream that had been scrounged up for her. Honestly, it was the sweetest thing that had happened outside of her shower.
“Thank you,” Alex said. And then she took the sandwich, not caring if it was impolite as she removed it from its plastic container and bit into it. Without a doubt, there would never be a sandwich taste as good in her life as that. Nothing would ever beat that moment as she felt the food hit her tongue. Whatever they had been feeding her in that place hadn't been bland in comparison to ham, cheese and tomato sandwiches.
The officers were polite, allowing her to finish the meal.
“The man spoke with a European accent. A, ah, Russian accent, but it didn’t sound authentic. He was six foot one maybe and had a light face, er, beard. He was ah, caucasian descent with grey-blue eyes. There was an edge of a tattoo on his neck I couldn’t see. Just a black smudge here,” she showed on her neck. “But it was hidden by his shirt collar. His hairline was...was going back. Receding. He also had a big, thin nose, teeth seemed to be straight, there was nothing that stood out about him,” she explained.
Alex gave a briefer description with the woman, having seen her through lamp light and the dim lights of the hallway. "She broke my arm, was tall, strong. Really strong."
“Did they ever explain to you why they may have kidnapped you. Did the people mentioning if they were taking you somewhere…?”
Alex knew what they were asking. But it wasn’t relevant. “I believe it was for revenge,” was all she said. She respected the police here, but she knew where the matter would go.
When the police left, they gave her a card. One of them wrote the American embassy number on it, above the local police number for her.
She was still waiting for the nurses to give her phone access.
She slept for a few hours, dreaming but not of Sara. The lights were low, but it was still loud. People were crying and sometimes yelling. Nursing staff were trying to help a few boys involved in a punch-up, some drunken girl kept shuffling the toilet when the nurses weren't looking and then being barked at to return to where she was. There was a pair of about-to-be young parents checking the status of stomach pains after a night of binge drinking.
And between those moments, the nurses were coming together, giggling with each other about their day-to-day lives outside of work, about their shift the night before, or even bad-mouthing staff on different sections.
A tradesman came around the morning, after breakfast. He looked at the manacles, took a few photos and spoke to his apprentice. Then he pulled out a few tools and removed them the manacles from around her wrists. The weight was gone.
“Thank you.”
“Not a problem. Have a good one,” the tradesman nodded and then seemed to catch himself, giving an awkward smile.
The nursing staff took the manacles, and Alex listened as they completed their ops. Her arm was placed into a sling, and she was told that they were just waiting on her being more stable before they operated on her.
She stayed until midday in the intensive care ward before she was placed into a wheelchair and taken to an actual hospital room with three other women. One was an elderly woman with respiratory problems. Another was about twenty years older than Alex and sat knitting across from her, offering her a smile. And the third was young, in her twenties and fast asleep.
“You’re booked in for some more tests today,” the new nursing staff, Alison, said as she took her ops for the report. “They’ll come round in a few hours. Have you had breakfast?”
“Yes,” Alex said. “Will I be able to call the American embassy soon?”
Alison blinked at her, then frowned. “I’ll ask if I can arrange that for you once I finish this, okay?” She smiled at Alex and Alex tried to smile back. It came out stiff. She’d been in the hospital for twelve hours, and the anxiety was only growing the longer she stayed.
None of the nursing staff knew anything about what had been going in America with Supergirl.
The whole day felt dizzy. A blur of people’s faces and she only felt more and more agitated. She turned and asked the residents in the room for anything about Supergirl. The older middle-aged woman hummed something about her grandson. The woman who looked to be twenty years her senior murmured back in broken English a few positive things about Supergirl, but nothing of news.
Alison did eventually come back, with a wheelchair in tow after lunch. “Let’s get you to the phone.”
Alex would have preferred privacy, but she understood that specific protocols were in place for her. The nurse wheeled her down a hall to the general phone, and the woman took it off its receiver and handed it to her. “Do you know the number?” she asked.
Alex gestured to the card she had, giving a mild comment about the police officers before she dialled in the number. It seemed to take her to a general call-centre queue.
After five minutes of waiting, Alison advised she would be back in a moment and headed back to her floor.
A few more minutes past before she spoke to someone, who transferred her across to a different line where she waiting in queue and then transferred again. Alex knew her procedure well enough. She went through it with the third individual who was finally able to direct her to someone of authority. Alex explained her situation carefully, advising that she did not intend to operate on Australian soil, but that she'd been kidnapped and brought over against her will.
“Mm. I see. I’ll take this through the official channels. Given the circumstances, I will be escalating it higher, but you can understand that due to the nature of this issue, it may take some time to return you to the United States.”
“I do. My primary concern is stopping this from being a big political issue,” Alex lied. Her primary concern was getting news to J'onn and seeing Kara. At least hearing from her.
“Thank you for your time. We’ll send someone down to Albury, if necessary. Otherwise, we’ll be in touch.” Don’t call us, we’ll call you. Great.
Well, that was one thing that was completed. Although Alex still felt nauseous, and her heart rate felt like it was higher than it should be, she was at a state where there was nothing further to do, except wait.
Alex hated waiting.
The nurse returned not shortly after she hung up her phone. “All go well?”
Alex pressed her lips. “As well as it can,” she responded.
“Let us know if you need anything. I believe your surgery should be booked in for tomorrow, but I’ll read through the doctor’s notes for you.”
"Thank you, I appreciate that. And look, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude before."
"Don't worry about it," the woman said. "Of all people, you can be a little bit abrasive, and we'll cut you some slack," she said, giving Alex a wink.
Back in the room, she helped Alex back into bed before reading through her note. "Tomorrow, pending any emergencies."
Tomorrow. Alex felt a deep sigh hang in her chest as laid back in her bed. It'd been bed re-made for her in her absence and felt nice to slide onto. The mattress wasn’t too bad either, but it wasn’t as good as her own.
“Oh!” Alison stopped, “Did you want a shower this afternoon?”
“No, the nurse this morning helped me with that.”
Alison nodded, smiling at her unfazed. It was one less job to worry about, Alex supposed.
She appreciated that the nursing staff had given her a gown to wear, and given her some underwear. Clean, she had been assured. Unused, for situations like this. Though they were an ugly grey-brown colour and went all the way up to her waist. She’d take it.
The senior woman, who was on the bed to her left, came over and placed a newspaper down on her table. On the front page, Alex could see a photo of her sister holding a man by his throat, her teeth bared at him in a fit of rage.
It wasn’t a quality photo, taken from the bottom of a building looking up at the scene, the person had zoomed in with a device not designed for keeping the picture in high definition for that length of distance, but there was no denying that that was her sister.
Supergirl's Gone Wild, the headline read. The article followed an opinion piece. Or rather, a thinly veiled anti-immigration, anti-superhero article detailing the dangers of both Superman and Supergirl taking their rage issues out on down-on-their-luck citizens. Alex didn’t know who the man was, but she knew her sister well enough to believe that he wasn’t just “down on his luck”.
There was also, on the top right-hand side, the date. Alex's stomach dropped as she realised how much time had passed. She had been gone for over two months.
At this stage, Alex had a clear, single thought.
Fuck Australia.
make it right.
Word count: 3.7k Summary: Charlie learns about a Legend the team lost, and makes it their mission to make things right as best they can. Rating: G [ ao3 link ]
“Gideon?”
Silence.
“I know you can hear me, Gideon. You hear everything.”
Charlie fiddles with their rings and bracelets as their leg bobs and shakes, leaned over themself as they shift and fidget.
“Gide-” “Yes, Charlie?” Gideon answers finally and she sounds a little tired, reluctant perhaps. Charlie looks up at the ceiling, at nothing in particular, scowling a little, “Why didn’t you answer me before?” “It is not in my protocol to fraternize with fugitives. They do not typically have the sentience to communicate.” “Fraternize-” Charlie cuts themself off, “Does the crew really not see me as a person? I’m certainly no human, but that’s just disrespectful.” They scoff, standing to shake themself out, pacing a little. Heavy boots thump against the floor as they walk a figure eight, still fiddling. The anxiety is clear in the way they move, the way their heart pounds. Gideon doesn’t answer the bitter question, but does eventually speak up again, “Did you need something, Charlie?” Stopping, they flex their hands, looking around themself at the empty room. They were given a room, they’re part of the team, they suppose, but it’s still strange to think that despite that, the crew- the Legends they say- don’t see Charlie like the rest of them. They’ve helped. Their intel has been crucial more than once. They should have the same freedoms as the rest. But what do they know, they’re just some creature.
Charlie heaves a sigh, letting their arms fall to their sides, “Do you… know anything about Mick’s partner?”
When Charlie had been locked away in that box, it had been the most abrasive and hard member of the team that had bothered to reach out. A couple shared bottles of hooch and a talk, and Charlie had felt more considered than with anyone else on the ship. Even more than the heart to heart they’d had with Ray. They owed Ray one, but it was Mick who’d attempted to find some humanity in them.
Ray seemed too preoccupied with some lass named Nora. Not Charlie’s problem.
“Mr. Rory’s partner’s name was Leonard Snart. He was a former Legend.”
“Was?” Charlie asks, crossing their arms to turn a little. It was hard to speak to Gideon, they’d found. Disorienting.
“Mr. Snart is deceased, Charlie.”
Their mouth goes dry with a confirmation of a thought they’d had. With how Mick had looked and sounded when talking about him, unnamed at the time, Charlie couldn’t imagine it had come from anywhere other than loss worn away by too much booze. Wonders, really. Nodding slowly, they duck their head to rub at their nose and mouth a little. “How did he die?” “He sacrificed himself on a mission to break the team, and time itself, free of the Time Masters.” Gideon explains. Something in her voice softens somewhat.
“That…” Charlie’s brow knits a little, “That sounds awful noble of a bloke who did a bunch of stints in the slammer. Why… why did he do it?” “Why did he sacrifice himself?” Gideon asks, puzzled by the question. “Yeah.” “The Oculus needed contact to detonate or the failsafe would engage.” “No,” Charlie scuffs the floor back and forth with their boot, “I mean, why him? Why not someone else?” Gideon doesn’t answer for another few moments, and Charlie almost thinks she’s done talking to them, and eventually they do answer again. “The complexities and circumstances of sacrifice from any one individual are difficult to accurately define.” “That’s a whole lot of bullshit. English this time, love.” Charlie scowls at nothing. They still feel weird talking to nothing and no one but air. “The events that transpired for the circumstances to be what they were were complicated. Mr. Rory spent time brainwashed. Mr. Snart betrayed Mr. Rory after being betrayed first. The two of them had the most history of anyone Captain Hunter recruited.” “Captain Hunter? What happened to Captain Lance?” There’s a sound, almost akin to a sigh, and Gideon goes quiet again. Charlie sits back down and leans back on their hands to listen because they’re sure it’s going to be one hell of a story. “Captain Hunter recruited the Legends to repair history, and Mr. Snart and Mr. Rory came aboard the Waverider together. They were criminals in Central City in the early 21st century, coined Captain Cold and Heat Wave by a hero of the time.” One of the panels on the wall flickers to life, a panel Charlie didn’t even know could do that. A series of newspaper articles and headlines and photos slides while Gideon talks. It is all pictures of the two of them. Some mugshots, some action packed. But almost all together. Sometimes in uniform. Charlie notes that Leonard is quite handsome. They can respect a statement piece like a parka.
“Mick mentioned, yeah. Said they had each other’s backs in supermax. Said they ran heists and all that. Didn’t mention being supervillains.” “Correct. Mr. Rory and Mr. Snart knew each other for multiple decades before they were recruited onto the team. I do not think they were supervillains. They very rarely hurt people after they met The Flash. I speculate it was simply fun for them.”
Gideon tells Charlie of the adventures. Vandal Savage and the havok he wrought. The Hawks and Firestorm. The hell the Time Masters brought down on Mick when they took him to the Vanishing Point. Gideon even told them about the Oculus in more detail, and about Mick’s willingness to die for revenge, and Len’s sacrifice. Gideon doesn’t get a chance to talk about the Legion of Doom before Charlie speaks up a little, a small smile along their lips looking at all the pictures. “Were they… you know.” “Mr. Snart and Mr. Rory were married, yes.” “Married?” They ask, stopping short to glance at the screen again. “I just wanted to know if they were bumping uglies- they were married?” “Correct.” A chill runs down their spine looking at a picture of the two of them standing almost back to back and looking triumphant with matching smirks. The can’t match the look knowing that one of the two of them is dead and the other… They’ve never been one for much romance, but they know it’s important to humans. The loss of someone so important claws at them, deep like an old wound. They feel the heat of it rising in their face and burning behind their eyes. Charlie speaks up a little, voice a little softer. “Did they do what they should for… him dying?”
“I do not understand.”
“A funeral. A send off. He sounded like a badass. They gave him one hell of a party, right?”
Gideon is quiet again, and Charlie is starting to learn this means Gideon is trying to form an answer. It’s funny that they consider Gideon more sentient and more of a person than Charlie, but they’ve already seen she goes unthanked or unmentioned more often than not. It’s kind of shitty, but these guys aren’t great all around. Not the worst. But definitely a whole slew of dickheads.
“No.” Charlie looks up, face twisted in confusion and a hot lash of anger, “No? Why the bloody hell not?” “I do not know, Charlie.”
“Why don’t you know?!” They ask, standing up, that confusion fully eaten away by the anger rushing through them. “He was your teammate. What happened to him?” “He died. There was no funeral. Mr. Rory took time to inform Mr. Snart’s younger sister before returning to business. Things were still quite chaotic for a time after his death in their mission to hunt down Vandal Savage.” “You mean to tell me, that a fire lovin’ bloke like Rory, he didn’t have some kind of viking’s funeral or something?” Charlie grinds out, half in disbelief and half in disgust. “Mr. Snart was not a viking-” “No shit!” They scoff and shake their head, falling back into their pacing. They feel like their back in the cage again. “Nothing happened. Everyone just forgot. Pretended things were fine?” “I suppose you could draw that conclusion, yes.” “Humans…” Charlie closes their eyes, shaking their head. Before they really think about what they’re doing or what might come of it, they’ve shifted into a guise of Leonard Snart. They have a different walk, a different demeanor, a different way of holding themself than Len, but they look indistinguishable from the former Legend.
The heavy boots are at least familiar against the metal floor of the ship. The side of their fist bounds against the doors as they hit every room to get attention on their way to the bridge. Once on the bridge, they lean back, arms crossed over their chest to wait for each member to arrive. Len’s face looks strange in such a scowl. It’s Ray first, chipper and happy, words on his lips that fall as soon as he sees who is standing at the console in the middle of the bridge, “If we’ve got a hit on the magic-o-meter, you could call it on the-” He stares for a moment, his stride coming to a stop, “Leonard?” Charlie doesn’t answer, staring him down. Zari peeks in as she rounds the corner and it takes a few moments and a look towards Ray who looks like he might be shaking a little, “L-Leo? You’re- You’re Leo Snart.” She too is met with silence. “Leo? I thought this was Len,” Ray asks, looking between Zari and Charlie again. Something hits him and he shift a little, “I… I guess it’d have to be Leo, wouldn’t it?” Sara stops before she makes it fully into the bridge and her voice shakes a little, “Alright, which Earth are you from?” She seems unsettled. Wary. Charlie shakes their head slowly, staring Sara down. “Alright, what’s going o-” Sara starts, and cuts herself short at the sight of Mick standing across the room staring at Len and only Len. Turning, Charlie looks at Mick the same way, arms finally coming down from where they were folded. “You’re not Snart,” Mick accuses with a snarl. “What gives?” Their patience is up and Charlie looks at all of them in turn as John steps into the room last, “What give? What gives, is that you disrespectful lot should feel sorry for yourselves!” The voice is Len’s but the accent is all wrong. It’s definitely Charlie, now that they can all hear the offkilter way of talking. It only serves to make everyone’s shoulders rise defensively. “You didn’t do anything for him? Anything at all? No funeral, no send off, no party- you didn’t even crack one open, did you?” Mick just growls gently, “Stop wearin’ his face.” “No! Not until you tell me why!” Charlie demands, baring their teeth at the Legends. It’s such an unsettling thing to see when they look so much like Len.
“Did you forget? Did you even care? Were you too busy? You're bloody time travelers. All you've got is time.” “Stop!” Sara interjects suddenly. Ray hasn’t said anything, guilt clear on his face. Zari looks uncomfortable, arms wrapped around her middle. Even John has resigned to watching in another direction from this whole fiasco. He’s not involved. Sara and Mick stare Charlie down though, anger and a deep seeded sadness clear in both of their eyes, even as they try to hide behind their walls. Softer, Charlie asks, “Did you have any plans to do him right?” “Why do you care?” Mick snarls, stepping up to grab the front of Len’s coat, and this close, Charlie can see the hurt, the loss, the longing, feel the shake of his hands, of his quaking breath. “It’s none of your damn business. Snart had nothin’ to do with you, so why do you care?” “Charlie, we… we had every intention of-” Wrapping hands around Mick’s wrists in their coat, Charlie looks at Sara first, “Don’t you lie to me! Gideon told me everything. About Savage. About the Time Masters. About Captian bloody Hunter- he’s dead too, did you give him a good send off?” Ray won’t stop staring at the floor and Zari has closed in on herself even more. John has a cigarette to his lips but he lingers like he isn’t sure if he should interject or leave. He looks guilty too and Charlie wonders if John knew Len at all. They think he just looks guilty. He always looks guilty, just under the surface. They’d know about hiding things, and he’s not as good at it as he thinks.
“You worked side by side with these people!” Charlie tugs at their coat- Snart’s coat- “You fought with them, and they died for you! And you don’t even have the decency to remember their sacrifice?!”
Nobody says anything and Charlie scoffs, shaking their head, “You humans are all the same. As soon as someone or something doesn’t affect you anymore, it doesn’t matter.” “Charlie!” Sara snaps, “You weren’t there, we didn’t have the time to dwell, there was too much happening!” Mick speaks up quietly, a bitterness like a spike off every word, “Axl had a funeral during your Death Totem bullshit.” Sara stares, and if possible, Ray looks even more guilty than he had before. Their voice grows soft at first, shaking a little. “There was always time. You lot don’t have a damn excuse. Captain Hunter didn’t have anyone left, just you, and Gideon said Len had a sister and friends in Central. And you didn’t do anything for either of them.” And then louder, angrier, pointing the fingers that definitely need to be pointed, “You did more for a bloody rat than your friends.”
They’re shaking where they stand as they stare down everyone who’s done wrong.
“Have any of you… done anything…. for your lost loved ones?” They all stare at Charlie and slowly, they shift back into themself. Or a least into Amaya, thanks to John’s tampering. But they’re not quite Amaya now. They have enough power over who they are to change enough that it’s not quite spot on. “Did you do anything for your sister, Sara? Or you Zari, for your family? Ray, your fiance? And John, I’ve personally seen your loss and what it did to the whole universe. Have any of you done anything for the people you loved and for your damn selves, or have you all just festered on the grief?”
Nobody says anything for a long moment before Ray speaks up quietly, shaking his head, “No. I don’t think we have.” “Getting slapped in the face with it like this isn’t exactly the best way to handle it, either,” Zari grumbles quietly, but there’s tears in her eyes. “But it can be handled now,” Sara interjects, voice a little softer. She sets a hand on Zari’s shoulder, looking at Charlie. It takes her a moment to collect herself, “I never did anything for my sister. She encouraged me to come here, to the Waverider. She told me to be a hero, in the light…” Drawing a shaking breath, Sara tries to fight the way the tears threaten to spill over. “She… she died while I was here. While I was helping Captain Hunter and the Legends. He only told me after, and some story about how I couldn’t go back to help her because ‘time wants to happen’. His loss was always more important than ours. So I just never dealt with it. And… you’re right- I hate that you’re right- but you are. We haven’t dealt with any of this.”
Zari’s hand settles on Sara’s and she eases in when Sara pulls her into a hug. They both lost people and had so much hope they could change history. No loopholes could help them and neither of them had come to terms with that. She cards her hand through Zari’s hair slowly, cheek pressed against her forehead. “I might have let her killer go back into time to kill her because I’ve seen what changing things does to the universe. I can’t save her. And I think… out of all of us… I’m the one who’s had the most chance to come to terms with that. But in general, no. I don’t think we’ve done anything.” “I uh,” Ray tries, but his voice is thick with tears. He purses his lips, clearing his throat, “I watched Slade Wilson kill Anna. My fiance. He broke her neck. Like it was nothing.” “And what did you do for her?” Charlie asks gently, brows knit to look him over. “She had a funeral. I didn’t attend. I… was in the lab. Working on the suit. I needed to make sure no one could get hurt again because I couldn’t protect them.” “Ray, you didn’t even attend your fiance’s funeral?” Charlie presses gently. Mouth clearly dry, he shakes his head, lifting a hand to rub at his eyes. He doesn’t say anything else. “And you, Mick,” Charlie starts, but when they turn to look at him, they stop. He looks heartbroken. He looks hollowed out. There’s tired bruises under his eyes and his jaw looks tight enough he might break his teeth. He hasn’t moved since he backed off from grabbing their jacket. It’s a struggle for Charlie to find voice enough to accuse him too, “Why didn’t you do anything for Snart?” “Told Lisa,” Mick growls out. It’s thick, and not much past a whisper. “But what did you do for you, Mick?” His eyes get glassy and his nostrils flare, but he doesn’t move.
“Snart wouldn’t leave me the fuck alone to do anything!” Mick snarls, an anger trying desperately to eat away the sadness filling him up. The others look on, unsure and a little confused. “First it was alliteration! Altercations!” He struggles to find the words, frustration making his shoulders shake. “Hallucinations?” Ray breathes, watching him. “He was all in my head,” Mick focuses on Charlie, on the person who’d taken his husband’s face. “And then! He was real! And he was- he wasn’t him. He was working for them. Snart doesn’t work for nobody but him! For us. We were a team. He killed Amaya. Called me stupid. He wasn’t Snart.” Sara and Ray shrink a little. They remember Doomworld too. “And then! There was Leo. He wasn’t Snart either! He was touchy and feelsy and flowery as shit. He was a hero. Snart wasn’t a hero. He was a thief and a con man and a fox.” Mick says hero and not anything about good and bad. Snart was a good man. They all know it. Even those who didn’t know him. They know Mick is a good man too.
“And now-” Mick cuts himself off, shaking now as he turns to one of the consoles and yells, a primal and hurt sound, like some animal, and swipes everything off it onto the floor. It’s enough suddenly to startle everyone. He looks back at Charlie, pointing a gloved finger as he advances on them, “You. And now you run around wearing his face.” He gets close enough that Charlie can feel the way he’s shaking. “Snart’s dead, and I’m not gonna put him to rest because he’s not gonna stop haunting me. It shoulda been me, and he’s not gonna rest cuz it wasn’t. S’that what you wanna hear?”
Charlie stares up at him, shaking now too. This whole situation has been too emotionally charged. They aren’t sure what they were thinking- they weren’t thinking. They were just angry at the injustice. And just how sick humans could be to each other, and just how unfair it was to those who had died to be treated like this. And maybe all of this helped some of them start to realize they need to face it. But the look in Mick’s eyes…
“I’m sorry Mick,” they speak softly, and they reach with gentle hands to hold his arms, “But it wasn’t your fault. Hi-his death… isn’t your fault.” Mick snarls but doesn’t jerk away even though his quaking shoulders tell a different want. “He sacrificed himself, and Gideon said that sacrifices are complicated and circumstantial and a lot of bullshit like that, but… Snart was a good man. A fox. A con man. A damn good thief. I didn’t know him, but he was good. At what he did, and just… good. And that goodness- he made sure his crew got out. That they could do more heists on history. That they could score all the loot.” Charlie puts it in ways they hope will help Mick compartmentalize all of this. “But his choice… that was never your fault.” His chest heaves and he grips their arms in return, their biceps held like an anchor. “But it shoulda been me. I was gonna take the Time Pigs out for what they did to me- lifetimes they took from me, and that selfish bastard, he took that glory and that inferno and-” Charlie reaches and eases their arms around Mick and he goes with it. It’s stiff and he’s uncomfortable. But he goes with it. Charlie hugs him close, holding him close, and Mick shakes. He will always deny that he cried. He’s not a crier. It’s allergies. Or something in his eye. He’s not a baby. He blames himself, feels responsible, and most of all, feels he should have been the one to die, not Len. That can’t be fixed overnight, but at the very least addressing the loss Mick suffered will at least show him a road to recovery that he’s capable of. And a team that had better shape the fuck up and help him- and each other- with their problems. But the weight on the chest of the widower lifts, if only just a little, the weight helped along by hands, malleable but strong. Trust starts there, in Charlie, and in Mick. It’s unconventional, but it’s strong, just like the both of them. They hold a procession and ceremony for their lost loves the next day. Sara’s sister. Ray’s fiance. Zari’s parents and brother. John’s lover. And Mick’s husband. And for the first time in years, they can breathe.
