[Start ID. A redraw of the official icons of the ten named slugcats from Rain World, arranged in two rows: Survivor, Monk, Hunter, Nightcat, and Gourmand in the first, Artificer, Rivulet, Spearmaster, Saint and Enot/Inv in the second. Each is drawn in roughly the same pose as in the original art and fitted with speculative interpretations of their biology, and the second image is a “dead” version of this. For example, all ten have slug-like rhinophores in place of ears, cuttlefish-like colorful eyes with strangely-shaped pupils, cephalopod-like beak "teeth", expressive barbels or oral tentacles at the corners of mouths, spiny radulas, and the frilly mantle fringes of sea slugs, though otherwise their faces are squishy, simple and mammalian-shaped.
Cream-colored Survivor and yellow Monk both share triangular, bicolored spots matching their eyes (which are tan and brown, and two shades of blue, respectively), small, bumpy fringes, and relatively neutral looks on their faces. Defensive-looking Hunter is mostly a dull orange-pink, though their blobby fringe is a more violent red and their back is purple and marred with lumps. Nightcat is navy blue and flecked with dots of yellow and teal, their rolled rhinophores are a lighter blue, and their shading fractures into stars in some places. Gourmand is almost uniformly tan, their wide, very ruffly white mantle fringe bordered by a spray of white spots, and their beak sticks out from either corner of their smile. Primarily red Artificer, snarling, has yellow markings of multiple sorts, a prominent yellow dewlap and their characteristic dark scar taking out a chunk of its face. Rivulet is a darker blue than usual, with long barbels, red gills and rings, countershading, and a cheerful expression, sticking out their radula. Spearmaster is purple with orange accents, eyes and spots, a large fringe and spines down their back. Saint’s green caryophyllidia are marked by small, yellow diamonds, and their long, thin radula extends far below them. Enot is decorated with mottled red stripes, blue patches, yellow stars, and an uneven and almost cartoonish imitation of blush, though generally the same deep blue as Nightcat, a passive or almost slightly smug look on their face and their rolled rhinophores out to either side.
In the second image, nine of the slugcats’ eyes are crossed out, indicating that these are death icons. They look fairly the same, with mostly expression differences. Survivor is caught in the beginning of a threat display, a karma flower sprouts from Monk’s side, Hunter is burdened with overgrowing, purple and blue rot, Nightcat’s rhinophores are pinned back, and Gourmand looks mildly disheartened. For the final row, Artificer bites its radula between small plumes of smoke, Rivulet drops their expression, Spearmaster looks very startled, Saint looks almost entirely the same besides half-open eyes and their markings greater in number, and Enot grins confusedly. End ID]
If you'll excuse the unusually lengthy ID: the arena meme introduced by @pansear-doodles at long last after a nearly year-long wip status (or, rather, finished a month ago today to honor my own first time playing it!)
Design notes and shout-outs under cut! :]
The following people are some of those who’ve inspired my designs most since I started this eight months ago (or just inspired me to get a little weirder with slugcat biology), among many others for sure, and I thank them for it–but this is simply to bring attention to artists I find cool, and in no way an obligation to interact or anything :]
> @saturncoyote , @carpsoup , @charseraph , @gallusgalluss , @bitsbug , @dopscratch , and @0hmanit (and a special mention to dddeerbo and hunterlonglegs, who’ve since deactivated)!
Survivor: Surprisingly the hardest to pin down the colors for, since nothing with its sibling's palette seemed to match up right (I did have to add in a little blue somewhere for Monk, the beginning of making it clear how much I’m simply going based off of vibes for the colors of scug innards). I consider them, Monk and Gourmand to be part of the same gene pool of slugcats, and even possibly the same colony even if the latter isn't really related, so took a bit of Gourmand's coloring and fit them in with their inspiration: Goniobranchus verrieri. They serve as a bit of an introduction to my ideas of scug traits (i find it really fun how many people have thought to add so many silly sluglike fixtures of biology completely independent of me, buuut here I’m mostly talking about species variation), and like in-game they’re pretty average! They, Monk and Hunter have a couple scars sourced from a piece of Joar's concept art that I'm failing to find, those across the bridge of the nose, under the eyes, and across the rhinophores, respectively, and my Survivor interpretation features many on the back of the neck, as a result of survived lizard bites.
Monk: Their coloring is primarily based off the fact that I associate them with blue fruits, honestly, a bit because I was compelled to establish a familiarity with Rivulet, and lastly inspired by the spots of Goniobranchus kuniei (and geminus, less important to me as one of my characters is a kuniei instead, but more fitting). Between the yellow + blue and the circular marking in the center of their face, they’re meant to bear a little resemblance to an iterator that shares similarities with the characterization I’ve given them, and similar coding of her sibling can be seen on Survivor’s markings around the eyes. As both a “default” slugcat and one whose campaign I haven’t played, though, I can’t say I have much more to point out about em.
Hunter: The whole rot thing made for a really fun time drawing them, and while the color change on their back is a result of this, it’s also an excuse to relate them to Babakina festiva, arguably my favorite sea slug (mostly for sentimental purposes). And to Spearmaster, a fellow messenger slugcat, and it serves as a gradient between Hunter’s pink and the “traditional” color of Rot seen in the DLLs. Aside from their affliction, they’d actually be the plainest in terms of design, as they don’t have any patterns or quirks of body type, just the red + purple and strange lumps + possible malnutrition. I can’t remember if NSH had created them in particular or just...caught + released or something, but it probably wouldn’t be strange for a lab-grown slugcat to be simple like that.
Gourmand: Like the two above, they’re rather plain in terms of coloring and adaptation, and like the two above, I find that fun. I decided it would be nice to avert the “all slugcats being of the same body type, and Gourmand’s out of place as the exception” thing by just...adding more fat to all of them, really. I did want to emphasize their sheer bulk even so, both fat and muscular (not like I couldn’t have still gone further with it, of course, but slugcat anatomy can be a little obfuscating sometimes, and they were intended to look rather plush considering personal size headcanons and therefore the lack of proper gravity), and the thick and flounced mantle looked like a good addition, as per their sea slug Glossodoris hikuerensis. Unlike Survivor and Monk, I didn’t attempt to hold their resemblance to any particular other character (which means a little less to balance out the “default gene pool” thing), so those are all the design notes I have for em.
Artificer: The second slugcat I’ve ever played, or finished the campaign of, my favorite for at least a long time, and the first thing I did was give them yellow accents, the shape of which have troubled me slightly (not quite like the spots or stripes of the others). They’re both a little more appealing and more explosive-looking to me, and considering how early on I played Arti, actually present in some of my older art. It does give them a little resemblance to Saint (completely intentional, two slugcats with strange relations to karma), as well as the fact that its radula is green for familiarity with one of its children (at some point it was going to have all-green markings, even!). I’m generous with their scars, partly because it was fun to overemphasize the one on their face and partly because it does seem like a reckless slugcat, on top of the dangers of its explosive abilities–I’ll probably just keep adding more forever. Mostly-red sea slugs aren’t too common, but Hexabranchus sanguineus works for sure. The ridged, yellow dewlap can expand for combustion purposes, or something along those lines. Arti’s where I began experimenting with a lot of the mildly-offkilter features seen in my interpretation of slugcats, as they’ve once again been a favorite from the start.
Rivulet: I've obviously given other slugcats spots, deeply enjoy the bubbly-soda markings of other peoples' slugcats, and thought seal riv would be cute. Despite not too closely resembling it, they've been government-assigned Hypselodoris bennetti, for color reasons and for a couple sentimental ones. Originally, the colors of every scug were meant to match up with the custom colors I gave them at the beginning of their campaigns, (though Arti, Gourm and Spearmy are the only three who actually apply here, since I've only played through half the slugcats: I gave arti the yellow as mentioned above, gourm brown eyes and spearmy light pink spears, furthered by the outskirts pearl accompanying me and that palette all the way to moon. Tolerance training for eternity in hell cause I already knew about the maroon pearl quest). I initially gave them the colors of the bi flag for fun... but with the limited palette of this image, I was left without pink for a while and decided to see how they'd look in red. I then realized how they now wonderfully matched Moon, and besides, red's a sort of camouflage in deep water! As a side-note, the difference between their eyes and those of others always bothered me a little for anatomical purposes, and the cephalopod eyes were probably influenced by this!
Spearmaster: Inspired as much as possible by @notyourfunnyman ’s wonderful spearmy: designed in a way that helps it fit in with scavengers, at least between the long sensory tentacles, big ruff, back spines and slightly thin/distended anatomy, a form of defensive mimicry. I always had annulate rhinophores in mind, for a little diversity sure, but mostly because the shape reminds me of radio antennae and communication towers (seems fitting for the comms array and being a messenger slugcat)! I started searching for a real-life slug to give them just by looking up their rhinophore shape...and was met immediately and coincidentally with annulate-topped nudibranchs that fit them more perfectly than I could've imagined: Flabellina and surrounding clades, I think Paraflabellina ischitana works very nicely. The orange was completely unplanned, but there wasn’t a place for light pink among the other slugcats’ palettes, and importantly it likens them to both Hunter and Seven Red Suns a little more.
Saint: I am very much a non-furred slugcat enjoyer, with respect to those who aren’t, so figuring out the only visibly furred slugcat was an interesting challenge. I’ve decided that they likely have other, milder adaptations for help in the cold, mainly just more efficient fat storage, and what looks vaguely like fur is instead a bunch of tubercles (called caryophillia, for the second reminder out of three). Their inspiration doesn’t have these, however, Miamira sinuata’s numerous yellow and blue spots (not to mention...whatever’s going on with that shape) and general effect of being the only really green nudibranch I could find were probably perfect for a strange green echo. Not pictured, but their beak-teeth are tiny and flat to make a surface for grinding soft food against with the lack of a functioning radula, which is tipped with a specialized spiny “grapple-hook” for better traction/grip (not to mention the numerous little teeth running down the whole thing).
(Best part of hiding this under a readmore means edits will be seen by all reblogs, I'm mostly sure, because I completely forgot to mention! The spots on their forehead are simple eyes. Their camera eyes appear closed in-game, I like to believe their complex eyesight is rather poor anyways or otherwise reason that they aren't seeing out of those, and while this was far from her REASON for attunement with the world, it does help compensate for mainly viewing it through a canvas of simple light and dark. This, and the fact that their swapped-out "fur" is not only to commit to a lack of hairs but contributes to sensory input!)
Nightcat/Enot: I guess you could say I found the “these two are technically the same person” compelling. (E.g. similar colors, both very strange and enigmatic, and Enot/Inv/Sofanthiel’s remark during the dating sim about getting removed from Arena Mode.) I doubt they’re the only two slugcats in their body, considering humans with DID tend to have more than a few (and I find it very funny that a slugcat bearing resemblance to Nightcat appears in Gourmand’s ending. They’re allowed in the colony and Enot isn’t </3), and I have to credit @faelingdraws ’s art for being what convinced me on it! Their design inspirations come down to trying to balance a few different ideas: making the patterns and palettes of both look oddly similar (special mention to the stars, since those are fun to draw), basing them off of Felimare sechurana and juliae respectively, using blocks of color with the same placement as in Enot’s official art, and specifically making Enot look...biologically reasonable and imperfect, whilst also clearly trying to imitate human displays of emotion (what with...the eyes and blush on that one piece of official art).
Lastly, here’s just a lineup with notes on body shape and size. Most of the nicknames (existing to give a little more space, that’s all) are obvious, and while I can’t remember why I shortened Nightcat to Nox, it is in honor of my friend by the same nickname :]

Enjoy these rough sketches because I will literally not come back to them until December. 🥲
(From Back —> Front, L —> R)
VN: Bumped into a couple of Quora answers that discussed archery practice, which got me thinking about Viet as a mounted archer, and I immediately thought of the elephants that the Trung sisters & Ba Trieu rode on. So Ranger: Beastmaster — also what if the elephant was from Thai? 🫣💘 Easily a tank through her mount, but can fight well as a DPS (think OW D.Va). ID: The thing is he has the fighting style of a Warlock(: Genie?) but the character of a Paladin(: Oath of the Ancients). He’s giving CR Fjord. 😭💞 For sure, TANK. TH: He’s just a Monk. Debated on his subclass for a long time because he’s a war freak charge-into-the-frontline kind of fighter. Way of Mercy is ironic but I love the imagery of the Merciful Masks (except he gets the khon styles). Way of Shadow — it’s on one possible etymology of Siam (Sanskrit, “dark”). Easily a DPS type. MY: Druid: Circle of the Moon for the Wild Shape into a Tiger, and as of typing this I just realized the moon motif. Mostly support, but upset him just enough and he’ll easily switch gears. PH: Bard: College of Swords for the two-weapon fighting style aka arnis/kali/eskrima. Personally, he’s more DPS than support, though as a latter Dirge Singer & Siday fit the bill. SG: See, the first thing that came to mind was the RO Alchemist class for the Homonculus feature — hence, his companion Fishball. Obviously there’s Artificer: Alchemist for that, but also it would be cool if Fishball is just a “chibi” form of his patron of a water dragon— Warlock: Fathomless. Not to mention Singa would have both high INT and CHA — alas, he’s a Support guy.
(more notes under the cut)
I jokingly called this AU as Dungeons & Drawing Circles, but truth be told I’m not restricting it to being after DND, let alone 5e. Now I’m just throwing hands and calling it a fantasy RPG AU, although out of familiarity, I do refer to DND 5e often. The classes I highlighted above are just there for where I got the inspiration.
I’ve had the occasional “oooh I think [character] would be a [class/es]” hc over the years, but I ended up expanding on the AU as a means of coping with the early months of ECQ. Now there’s so many plot bunnies that I’d summarize as: your og main 8 unwittingly team up for a quest and, over time, they hit a point where they realize that they cannot fight the BBEG alone (or at least just the 8 of them), so they travel around the world recruiting allies a la Suikoden 108 Stars of Destiny.
It’s even got a literal history timeline where preceding events (and characters!!!) are involved with the BBEG and ultimately why the main 8 came together. Think playing a later game in a series where you not only get to meet the playable characters from earlier games, but you get to recruit them.
And I just wanted to draw cool fantasy looks, haha! Nevertheless, nothing is final — especially when I've clearly taken inspiration from some indigenous groups. It's why I shelved this for so long because I need to do more research and it's just not something I have a lot of free time for.

Test of Will. Test of Will. I am a disciple of the moon. I am stubborn. I am persistent. I do not veer from the trail of self-destruction. And I go. Through. You.

Honestly, once you get over the imposing size, jacking you in the face is trivially easy. I float like a butterfly and sting like an angry butterfly carrying a little safety pin to make up for its evolutionary shortcomings.

Also, your shockwave move is only threatening if I'm on the ground. But with my wingsuit, I can soar like the majestic falcon. Which also means....

I THOUGHT THIS WAS LIKE A FRIENDLY SPARRING MATCH. Did I just KILL the Artificer?
Oh fuck. Oh fuck. Luana's going to be pissed. And her vindictive fury is legendary. As in, it makes up about 70% of her legend.
Oh goddess, we're directly in front of the Sea of Stars. Can she see me right now!?

But I don't wanna. I've taken a lot of leaps already. Some were even voluntary. I have this magic seashell because I drowned myself in a pit of swamp gook. Can't you just use one of those leaps and call us square?
Tumblr media
No. Because that's backwards. Hope is the driving force that motivates courage. Both the courageous and the craven are free to hope, but courage can't exist without hope. Hopelessly risking harm without regard to one's safety, throwing yourself in the line of fire because you genuinely don't care what happens to you, isn't courage. It's... something else.

Aberlady Bay’s midget submarines.
I took a trip out to Aberlady last night to catch the low tide where these relics from World War Two are left decaying as the tide comes in and out.
In the spring of 1946, two midget submarines were towed to Aberlady Bay and tethered on either side of an anchor point made of one old concrete anti-tank block set on top of four others. There, over two days of trials in the first week of May, they were fired at by aircraft including Mosquitoes and Seafires (the naval version of the Spitfire) in an experiment to judge the effectiveness of 20 mm cannon shells against the submarines’ steel hulls.
The story of the Aberlady Bay midget submarines was uncovered brilliantly by a researcher named Alison Boutland in a report for the Nautical Archaeology Society. She was able to identify the submarines as XT-craft, a training variant of the X-craft mini submarine.
X-craft were about 16 metres (52 ft) long and powered by a diesel engine when on the surface and an electric motor when underwater. They had a crew of four: a commander, a pilot, an engineer (known as the engine room artificer, or ERA) and a specialist diver. They were used in September 1943 in a daring raid on the German battleship Tirpitz in a fjord in the far north of Norway – a mission that inspired the 1955 film ‘Above us the Waves’, starring John Mills.
The XT submarines, built by Vickers Armstrong at Barrow-in-Furness, were used not just for training X-craft crews, but also to stand in for full-size submarines in training exercises in which they were hunted from air and sea. The XT-craft were simpler than X-craft, since they did not need as much equipment. In particular, they did not have a retractable periscope; the periscope was fixed in a fin-like housing on the top of the submarine. The distinctive eye-shaped attachment point for this periscope housing was clearly identified by Boutland on the two Aberlady Bay wrecks.
Six XT-craft were built, named Extant, Sandra, Helen, Excelsior, Extended and Xantho. When the war in Europe drew to a close, they were no longer needed, and in June 1945 all six were sent to the Naval Construction and Research Establishment in Rosyth. Boutland was not able to figure out which of the six were used for the target trials, although she did conclude that the better-preserved wreck is probably not XT-5, Extended, which, as its name suggests, was modified to be a little longer than the others.
The cannon-fire trials took place on May 1, 1946 and, after the subs were patched up and re-floated, May 6, 1946. The website East Lothian at War, which has the dates as May 2 and May 7, says that the first trial involved armour-piercing shells and the second high-explosive shells, and that the latter proved more effective. Surviving documentation includes annotated photos of the subs showing the damage after the attacks.
Aberlady Conservation and History Society was recently given movie footage of the trials, filmed by a naval officer from the deck of a boat from which the operation was observed, and in 2019 the footage was digitised and posted on YouTube, the footage, although in colour, is not great, I will post it below for you to have a wee look at.
An interesting addition to the story of the submarines comes from Coastkid, a local blogger and Surly fat bike enthusiast, who has evidence that the subs continued to be used as targets for live firing practice by aircraft based at Drem. He recalls working as a greenkeeper at Gullane in the 1980s and finding dozens of spent 0.5 inch shell cartridges as well as 20 mm cartridges, and he was told by a retired tractor driver that aircraft used to line themselves up using a marker pole behind the seventh tee on Gullane No 3 course, and fire when over the rows of anti-tank blocks, near the green of the twelfth hole on No 2 course.

TTRPG OC names and their meanings
inspired by @sylvienerevarine, meanings taken from behindthename
I don't think I need to say much about Perseus, my beloved Blorbo Bingus. He was a templar in a homebrew D&D 5e campaign setting called Turrillium Tales, with his final multiclass being Bloodhunter/Cleric!
Eren is one of my currently played characters being part of a homebrew D&D 5e isekai campaign. I love them so much, they're such a rat bastard who causes problems on purpose. Currently their class is Bard with a level of Fighter.
Allyn was a character for a one-shot in Turrillium where chances of survival were very slim. And yeah, they didn't survive. I think they were an Artificer Warlock, playing them as a sniper which was really weird and fun.
Cassian was a wizard and my first evil character ever, playing in a homebrew D&D 5e setting called the Iron Cities. He eventually ended up in the hands of the DM after I clicked that the entity we faced was the Hungry Prince and had Cassian immediately switch sides. The DM was shocked I'd made the connection so quickly (literally within the first minute). He underestimated how much of a lore-whore I am :3
Matthieu is a Pathfinder 2e character I'll be playing soon, hopefully! I have successfully made a character that half the players are simping for, which I'm very proud of. He's a changeling swashbuckler who can do no wrong despite his past murder.
Orion was a character for a D&D campaign that survived only one session which I'M DEFINITELY NOT UPSET ABOUT, NO, NOPE, DEFINITELY NOT. I wrote a lot of lore and backstory for her but it was all super specific to that homebrew setting so I don't think I'll get to play her again without some major revamping. She was a druid of the stars!
Baine was another Turrillium character for a side campaign. She was a weird Monk/Cleric multiclass based on healing as much as possible. She made the other party members do impromptu art therapy.
Morrigan is another character I'm currently playing in a magical school setting! She's very sweet and vulnerable to peer pressure. She got sent to the tornado zone three times in a row and she did not like it at all.
Ataraxis was originally made for a Curse of Strahd campaign that died after one session and a few years later, I was able to bring them back to hop into another campaign! They were a paladin/bard multiclass. Sea shanty paladin!!!! Also the second of my characters to have a threesome???????
Natela was a character for a two-shot in the same setting as Eren. It was very fun playing as someone from the world, rather than someone who got isekai-ed into it. She was a bard and a delightful little bastard.
I play a lot of bards and a lot of bastards, I'm sorry :(

(Cyber!Earth AU: where the Autobots get a Guide. Of sorts. Chickadee, a half-fae, attempts to write a list of advice.)
What are we but of rage and hunger? Even in the most desolate places, life still exists. It is a testament of will and persistence even in the face of the impossible or improbable.
Many Things that slept have now reawakened, but the wiser ones fear three things. The sea at storm. A night with no moon. The rage of a gentle Man. Do not be fooled by this new metallic terrain, nor the luminous waters. Some adages hold true, no matter the circumstances.
What is more damning than despair? More uplifting than hope? Rage and grief are born from love. It will drive the most courageous as well as the darkest of acts.
Take time to be kind to someone or something. The world is already pitiless. Allow yourself to be, despite it.
You will have options. Whether or not you will like them is out of your hands. Reframe it accordingly. Perhaps there may be more alternatives underneath.
Collect rain water when it falls. It is the most reliable to use. Fresh and rejuvenated from its cycle. Very helpful in many Aspects. It is a decent bargaining tool, especially for new magicians and experienced artificers and those too far away from this realm.
Beware the forests and their gilded branches. Leave offerings of treasured items before entering. Jewels and food are fine. Personal tokens are better. Do not stray from the paths, or it will take you as a gift as someone treasured you once.
Be cautious when passing fields. Battles have been waged upon them. Some are bitter and will attempt to swallow you whole. Corpses should be buried, not freely walking about.
Keep your faith close. Guard your Self well. Do not enter into bargains with things you can not or should not give away or unwilling to part.
Memories are precious. Savor them. Nurture them. Grip them tight. Gently kiss them before letting them go. Or kill them quickly. Choose the right one well.
What is life without fear? The terror that claws inside your throat? It is a necessary component of life and growth. Same as pain. Wield it carefully.
We all hunger for something.
Do not expose your heart so easily. It sings true. Overwrought and overcome with emotions. Easy to play. A natural thing to covet a star-bright soul. Masks are very necessary. Get full coverage for the most protection. Hone your expression to match your metal. Carve it deep. Or ask the trees for a boon.
Be on your guard when approaching the trees. Each one has a particular trait. Like calls to like. Their eyes upon your face may bring a Court's interest.
You are being Watched. There is no escape.
Take careful consideration of Allegiances and Alliances. The far more bloodthirsty will demand a share of your vanquished Enemies. Summer and Winter have their Revels and will demand participation. Brush up on your dancing skills.
The Night Markets sell everything and anything. Do NOT venture when the moon is away.
There is a method to this madness. Learn the flow. Sink into its depths or wade through the currents.
There is no method to this madness. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
It is excellent that you wear your own Allegiance upon your frames. Hold steadfast to it, for Others will attempt to lure you away.
The many ways to love are not mutually exclusive on the ways to kill a god.
Your dreams may reveal things forgotten or lost. Take caution.
Your dreams are very susceptible to outside influence. Take caution.
You are both prey and predator.  Nothing but an animal when stripped of that veneer of civility. Remember that well and you will find your footing.
Treat the birds well. Especially the corvids. They remember kindnesses. They remember cruelties. Heed their warnings.
Thy Good Neighbor, are ye Friend or Foe? Both or neither?
You are being deceived. Trust your instinct. It is far harder to fool.
Listen very well. There are Signs.
There are dragons, and then there are Dragons. Keep the Dragon's company nearby. She is a daughter of the exalted Sun. Her flesh kissed by its merciless flames. Her soul is charred by the scorching desert. Few will be willing to cross her.
Teach your children well. Impart the necessary lessons. It is best to learn now when it can be blunted rather than later to a craftier foe.
Even gods can be tricked. Even gods can die.

A poem by Wallace Stevens

The Idea of Order at Key West
She sang beyond the genius of the sea.   The water never formed to mind or voice,   Like a body wholly body, fluttering Its empty sleeves; and yet its mimic motion   Made constant cry, caused constantly a cry,   That was not ours although we understood,   Inhuman, of the veritable ocean. The sea was not a mask. No more was she.   The song and water were not medleyed sound   Even if what she sang was what she heard,   Since what she sang was uttered word by word. It may be that in all her phrases stirred   The grinding water and the gasping wind;   But it was she and not the sea we heard. For she was the maker of the song she sang.   The ever-hooded, tragic-gestured sea Was merely a place by which she walked to sing.   Whose spirit is this? we said, because we knew   It was the spirit that we sought and knew   That we should ask this often as she sang. If it was only the dark voice of the sea   That rose, or even colored by many waves;   If it was only the outer voice of sky And cloud, of the sunken coral water-walled,   However clear, it would have been deep air,   The heaving speech of air, a summer sound   Repeated in a summer without end And sound alone. But it was more than that,   More even than her voice, and ours, among The meaningless plungings of water and the wind,   Theatrical distances, bronze shadows heaped   On high horizons, mountainous atmospheres   Of sky and sea.                           It was her voice that made   The sky acutest at its vanishing.   She measured to the hour its solitude.   She was the single artificer of the world In which she sang. And when she sang, the sea,   Whatever self it had, became the self That was her song, for she was the maker. Then we,   As we beheld her striding there alone, Knew that there never was a world for her   Except the one she sang and, singing, made. Ramon Fernandez, tell me, if you know,   Why, when the singing ended and we turned   Toward the town, tell why the glassy lights,   The lights in the fishing boats at anchor there,   As the night descended, tilting in the air,   Mastered the night and portioned out the sea,   Fixing emblazoned zones and fiery poles,   Arranging, deepening, enchanting night. Oh! Blessed rage for order, pale Ramon,   The maker’s rage to order words of the sea,   Words of the fragrant portals, dimly-starred,   And of ourselves and of our origins, In ghostlier demarcations, keener sounds.

MOONLIT CONFESSIONS - PART 12
I see, I finally remember now. Its true identity is...
-
TGII : My Master!
ROBO BUNNY : You're here. How goes your study of 'Artificers' Record'?
TGII : I have finished reading it and completed my practical tasks for the month. But they have been putting me to work developing continuously-firing ballista, blades that explode upon stabbing someone...I am a little...confused.
ROBO BUNNY : The plan laid down by the Great Lord and the other elders will of course be for the good of the Micians. Don't worry too much.
ROBO BUNNY : Oh yes, I must leave the Micians for a while.
TGII : To carry out that secret mission? Where are you headed?
ROBO BUNNY : When you've made it into the School of Theoretical Research, you'll know. But, this is a risky business I'd like to keep you out of.
-
THE GREAT LORD : Just as I wrote in my letter, the construction of the mechanisms and theoretical research will take place concurrently. Your task is to hasten the splitting of Guanghan Palace and free up space for us to occupy with our man-made space.
THE GREAT LORD : The School of Theoretical Research will also be putting in the finishing touches to its research into man-made spaces.
TGII : Was Master also involved in this secret research project? I haven't seen him in a very long time.
THE GREAT LORD : ...Your master is still bound by his duty to his mission and has yet to return.
THE GREAT LORD : Go, my child. Do not disappoint us.
-
TGII : Hngh! The energy of this explosion...Is nothing like what they described!
Tumblr media
My chest component has been damaged and the gears inside my cranial casing have ceased to turn. The machine oil is overheating, damage to conductor wiring is imminent...No, I have to cling to a drifting object to evade this!
TGII : Others? Did they die?
TGII : Ow! My skull...Something inside seems to have ceased functioning. I...What am I doing here...
He stumbles about, coming to lean at last on a drifting Osmanthus tree, sailing through the deserted sea of stars.
TGII : Why is a toy rabbit hanging from an Osmanthus tree?
TGII : No, this is no toy, it's a defunct robot.
TGII : It's out of machine oil, its body appears to have been damaged by a small-scale explosion. What a sad sight. Let me repair it and create a few more robo-bunnies to keep it company.
-
ROBO BUNNY : You've finally recalled it all.
Tumblr media
ROBO BUNNY : Then do you understand why I did what I did?
A veritable thicket of robotic arms extend from a few Osmanthus trees, almost as though they were the fanatic disciples of the blooms of evil.
Four small humanoid silhouettes sway under the starlit sky, suspended in midair. Their struggle causes the arms to become even more animated.
TGII : What? How could you...!
ROBO BUNNY : I am thoroughly tired of the human race.
ROBO BUNNY : The Micians' research on artificial space failed. We, the robots on the front lines, were abandoned in this sea of stars for dead, left to degrade and lose our memories to the march of time.
ROBO BUNNY : They called themselves the chiefs of all that lived, created us. Yet they abandoned us so easily. The life that they gave us means so little to them that they both think little of it, yet also fear it.
The Mician insignia on his arm carries the prominent lopsided gash. The strength that went into the action only underscores the force of the emotions behind his decision.
ROBO BUNNY : From the moment I was born, I was a tool...I'd like to try making humans my tools for a change.
ROBO BUNNY : You must make a decision. As long as you will work with me, I'll put them down.

Felix Octane, an artificer from the city of Ravens Bluff. He has a war forged companion he often refers to as his brother named C.A.S.S. They are well known around the sea of stars as brother mercenaries known as the Octane Brothers. But his regal composure and refined way of speaking often has people wondering if he was at one point more than what he is now.
