headcanons of what I think the anipoke cast is up to in the future

Ash - Still traveling the world, on a journey to become a Pokemon Master, cuz ofc he is. He's changed his approach and focuses more on learning about Pokemon, but will still never say no to a good battle. Fights hard to stay World Champion. Occasionally still works for Cerise

Misty - She's still the leader of the Cerulean City Gym but she's slowly working up her way to becoming a Kanto Elite Four Member

Brock - Pokemon Doctor! Has been all over the place helping out at different Pokemon Centers over the years

Gary - He's a Pokemon Professor! Well known for all kinds of insane discoveries. He works under his Grandpa and eventually takes over the Lab. Still has a rivalry with Goh.

Tracey - He's Garys assistant now, make sthe lab very chaotic. Started taking art commissions on the side

May - Well known Top Coordinator who has won multiple Grand Festivals! But she still comepetes in contests and travels with the hoen coordinator gang

Max - Gymleader, he's taken over the Petalburg City gym! Dunno what his type though is, he can mix em if he wants to

Dawn - Also a well known Top Coordinator with multiple wins, and she still occasionally competes in contests. I like the idea of her getting into fashion and designing.

Paul - Either a Gym Leader or an Elite Four member, maybe even Sinnoh Champion, but definitely still battles

Iris - Contiunes to be Unovas champion, trying to snatch Ashs world champ title and learning about dragon types on the way

Cilan - S class connoisseur! Still likes traveling but also stays in Striaton a lot to help out in the café, though he doesn't act as gym leader anymore

Serena - Reining Kalos Queen and Pokevision influencer! Also her and Lisia are a pop star duo

Clemont - Not a gym leader anymore either, he's focused more on his inventions and becomes pretty well known for it

Bonnie - New Lumiose Gym Leader! I like to think she tried out both gym battles and showcases when she was old enough to go on her own journey, but ended up being drawn towards batrling a lot more. I also like the idea of her beconing Kalos champion eventually

Mallow - Pretty much took over Ainas Kitchen and started branding out their name to other Alola Islands

Lana - I kinda like the idea of her getting interested in acting after the gig she and the other sm girls had, still fishes with her dad for fun

Kiawe - Akala Islands newest Kahuna! Contributes to keeping the Alola league tournament alive as well. He doesn't have much time to help with the farm anymore but still delivers milk every morning

Sophocles - Works at Pokemon NASA, far off from going to space but he'll get there

Lillie - I am very attached to Lillie being a teacher at the Pokemon school, but I also like the idea of her writing books. Either way she does something booksmart tm

Gladion - Works at the AF, got sucked into the family buisness and researching UBs after Lillie the Nihilego

Goh - Cerises assistant still working for his own Professor title and more than mildly upset at the fact Gary managed to get there before him, he specialices researching species that were discovered more recently and has an always increasing of his own Pokemon to look after

Koharu - Since she doesn't have a canon long term goal, her story line was moreso about figuring out what she wants to do, that kind of makes her a catch all character. I can see her do anything really she works with whatever. Ik she helps out her dad as a research fellow at the end of the series and I also like her getting more into contests but I don't really think she does either of those forever? I like the idea of her doing photography, it's artistic in the opposite direction of what her mom does

Tho I admit I have some pet peeve on just dressing up characters in the exact same clothes as the canon companion in those "what if A went to X with Ash instead" AUs. I mean, Dawn totally rocks Serena's clothes but it always feels kinda weird to me. Like, isn't that just replacing Serena with Dawn?

I feel it's more interesting when Dawn's personality and tastes are taken into account instead of just dressing her up (and doing everything) exactly like Serena (one of the reasons I dislike the whole Chloe dressed in May's contest outfit thingie too. bothers me idk how to explain, is like stealing another girl's spotlight i think?).

Like, at the very least you could go for the "life Serena" outfit?

I feel this one even matches Dawn better smh.

Gosh, and even the other outfits from the games itself could be cool like, look at those! Super nice!

I would like to ask you about that fanganronpa that you brought up.

YES YES YES YES FINALLY I CAN RAMBLE ON ABOUT THIS OBSESSION I HAVE WITH MY FANGANRONPA!

(VERY long post I did not hold back at all here it’s the best thing ever when someone asks about your hyperfixiation)

Ok so basically what I’ve called it is “Danganronpa: Perfect Atrophy” and I actually made a logo for it but it’s still kinda WIP.

Perfect atrophy is a particularly interesting name I decided on with my project as atrophy means to waste away (esp of body tissue like muscle atrophy brain atrophy). And my main theme I’m going for with my project is “decay” basically how important hope and despair is in the canon games. I also have a sense of medical themes in my concept as stuff like that becomes very important and especially with the theme of decay, so atrophy was the perfect word (pun intended). “Perfect” in the title mainly came with my obsession with words that are described as perfect that really shouldn’t be (eg perfect nothing, a song by ghost and pals which I kinda associate with this project). And to describe atrophy as perfect is something that’s very odd and especially since something like that is more negative. And there really can’t be “perfect atrophy” or perfect decay in any way because it’s such a broad term. But in a way this contradiction perfectly encapsulates the theme of my project and even hints at the masterminds way of thinking, as obsessed with decay as junko is with despair.

Ok enough rambling about how much effort I put into the title I want to introduce my characters!

I’ve thought about these characters wayyy to much and my personal favourites are probably Kayo, Mana and Phoebe. I’ve actually made concept designs for almost all of the characters and have made two full sprites which I’ll show here.

Thank you so much to u/bloodiedchocolate on Reddit for providing a base. Something like that has very helped me in brainstorming what a character’s design would look like and how it’d fit in the danganronpa style. I haven’t got time to design Shiori or Serena yet as there was a huge problem when I accidentally deleted my editing app along with all the files for everything I’ve done on my project but luckily I was able to save them as screenshots then my storage imploded, it’s a long story.

But these are the concept designs I have for the characters. Feedback would be appreciated as I’m planning on turning them all into sprites and I hope they convey their characters well enough. I would ramble about all of their personalities and stuff but that’d make this post way too long but if you want me to ramble about that just ask.

Now onto the setting as this is something I’ve thought about way too much. It’s basically an enclosed school like DR1 but I decided to put an interesting spin on it. With the themes of decay present in my concept I want the school to feel old and falling apart. And have a vibe similar to the backrooms and liminal spaces. Here are some pictures which basically sum up what it’s supposed to look like.

So basically the school has an eerie atmosphere of decay and rot which I feel like would be very interesting on the mind if everyone’s stuck here compared to a regular school. There’s also a really interesting idea I came up with where the architecture is plain weird. Originally born from me trying to create a map but my awful understanding of architecture turned into “hold on this is actually an amazing idea”. I’ve got a concept where the further you go up in floors the more surreal the architecture becomes. Empty corridors leading to nowhere. A labyrinth of hallways. Too much dead space to even be a real building. The more the story progresses the more surreal everything becomes. Here are pictures for what I can imagine to architecture to become

As the floors progress the structure becomes uncanny. It looks more like an entity with a vague idea of what human architecture is conjured this place up rather than someone actually building it. In essence the theme of perfect atrophy is “decay vs growth vs stagnation”. The decomposing and falling apart rooms are decay. The strange almost organic like growths of rooms and furniture are growth. The inhuman liminal spaces with a constant presence of dread are stagnation. It’s a mix of these themes that are at the very core of the story and ingrate itself in the themes of the characters and everything that happens. Decay, growth and stagnation make up the very core of reality and this cycle that encapsulates the universe. And yes I think I invented a new philosophy don’t mind me if I publish a book on this in the future from what is essentially danganronpa fanfiction LMAO.

But as well here’s a concept of what the bedrooms would look like, ft my awful understanding of perspective and how to draw anything that isn’t human.

Yeah imagine having to sleep in this every night for the rest of your life. At least with the canon danganronpa games the rooms are like luxury hotels and I’m torturing my characters with, this. Again this is inspired by liminal spaces and the theme of decay. As present with the dull colours of the wallpaper and carpet and the water stains everywhere.

There’s also this map I made of the first floor. Initially the presence of the surreal architecture as I bought up is hard to notice. But ironically enough I have an Ultimate Architect so he noticed the irregularities immediately and he becomes important when it comes to analysing these themes.

There’s also these concept maps for floors 2, 3 and 4 which are more sketchy and I didn’t flesh them out as much as I did with the first map. But here it’s easier to see how strange the layout becomes.

Now I want to talk about the aesthetic of the project as it’s something I’ve also thought about way too much. In a way I have multiple aesthetics, but I’ll skip over the decay themes as I already talked about that. I just show some images of my ideas as it’s kinda hard to explain what I’m going for.

These 5 images sum up exactly what the aesthetic im going for is. I want usage of harsh metal textures that appear to be ripped apart and broken with some sort of force. Mesh designs and torn metal is a huge part in this aesthetic and it looks very good mixed with a harsh red. There’s also a presence of more cyber esq themes building off that metallic feeling I mentioned and with a very grunge aesthetic mixed with bright colours. Actually thinking about it this aesthetic is quite similar to the main aesthetic that Milgram has and I started on this project before I learned about it so that’s probably why I was instantly hooked.

here’s also some of the UI I’ve been doing based on this aesthetic.

so this is basically the ui designs for the regular game and the trial. With the regular design I wanted to go with that metal grunge design and the usage of signposts is heavily inspired by the v3 title screen as it has a lot of those elements which I wish was utilised more in the game as it’s so cool. And I feel like this design encapsulates both the general feel of the protagonist and the story without being too overwhelming. Theres also the trial design, which goes for a more cyber design like what you’d see in sci fi movies. I want to give that feeling of intensity in the trial. Funnily enough the trial ui was the first real thing I designed for my fangan and I basically based everything off of that one design. Here’s also some other ui designs I’ve done.

I’ve got some basic concepts here, a character intro, a non stop debate ui, the counter and argue screen. But here’s one I find particularly interesting to talk about.

This is basically the end screen of the chapters where it shows how many surviving students there are. I put a spin on this having there be a class photo of all the students hanging out and stuff much like the one from dr1 I used. But their portraits get greyed out as they die. And as well as that the more the chapters progress the more decayed the photo gets. And eventually the rot spreads to that of the dead students removing them from the picture entirely. Here’s what it looks like at the beginning vs the end.

And you may be asking, what’s with the strange chapter names? I’ll list them here. P: Corneal opacity: the last of the glory days

C1: Pallor mortis: dawn in the graveyard

C2: Algor mortis: a wish in the wind

C3: Rigor mortis: arctic air outbreak

C4: Livor mortis: kneeling in a sea of blood

C5: Putrefacation: the tranquility of death

C6: Skeletonisation: final onslaught

E: Fossilisation: the show is over, applaud

BE: Extreme decomposition: Beautiful Decay

Basically all of these chapter names are the stages of decay post mortem. As once again decay is a crucial part of my story and especially with the big presence of death in danganronpa makes this perfect. Yknow how you look at an idea someone has and are like “omg this is the best idea ever I wish I had that idea”. I feel like this is exactly the type of thing I’d say about this but I actually came up with the idea and it feels so fiwhosbsoqnsm. There’s also the chapter names which are more similar to the canon chapter names which I also included.

Now I want to talk about key events in chapters and cases and stuff. One thing I’ve payed huge attention to is the motives which I’ve made a lot of. So here’s my current ideas for motives and cases.

I haven’t decided on a motive for chapter 1 yet, but an idea I had for the case is that the killer sent out a letter to someone claiming to invite someone with a meeting with a bunch of other people they claimed to send letters to to make it more trustworthy, but it was actually a murder trap with the letter only being sent to one person. There’s also a part in the daily life when someone makes themselves the self proclaimed leader, and is extremely worried about an idea of a murder so they implement rules such as “no going out at night”, but even more strict then canon examples, also having rules such as “you have to stay in groups of at least 3 all the time”.

In chapter 2 there’s a motive where the morning and night announcements stop and all the clocks stop working and people can no longer tell what time of day it is. This is interesting because after someone was murdered in chapter 1 the whole cast decided to form a union to stop that from ever happening again and banded up together and made plans on how to escape. They even found a phone which they tried setting up a mayday message to send for help. This union caused this motive to be implemented, as nobody being able to tell the time anymore would get rid of morning meetings and make everyone confused and disoriented. This broke apart the union that was created and although this doesn’t seem as much as a big motive the separation of the cast was a huge deal. And interestingly enough when someone was murdered, it took a whole day and a half to find the body as people didn’t really care about disappearances anymore as they assumed they were asleep, and the body was shoved in a locker. (Note, people would’ve noticed the smell but I want a case where the time of death is very important so I’m thinking of a way that could’ve masked this). And about the body being left out for a while, this would’ve caused it to decay into a bloating stage. Me being me, I wanted to research the stages of human decomposition to make this as accurate as possible. You can guess what I googled, you can guess that I clicked on images. I will not elaborate further.

Chapter 3 is probably my favorite so far. As there’s a motive where the temperature drops every day until someone kills and basically everyone’s freezing to death. And this was actually based off a dream I had. This basically launched everyone into survival mode as even more so over worrying about a murder people had to worry about dying from the cold. As the days went on characters became dizzy and disoriented from the cold and frostbite became way too common. Causing Phoebe, the pathologist, to overwork herself in treating everyone as she’s the only one with medical knowledge but as she’s more about knowing injuries and ailments rather than treating them it was very hard. There was an attempted murder in this chapter when Kayo, the protagonist was splashed with water that was mounted up on a door when it was freezing temperatures. It only hit her arm though and she and the other person was with freaked out so much as something like that was incredibly dangerous in such cold temperatures. There’s also a part where a few people tried to start a fire using chemicals since the lighters and matches didn’t work… which ended up blowing up and causing a massive fire ironically.

Chapter 4 I’m thinking about a motive similar to how in milgram the prisoners can order almost anything they want. So basically the characters are allowed to order one thing per day and get it delivered to them next morning, but maybe there’s a catch to it like maybe incorporating a secret motive as a drawback to ordering stuff as Kayo has a very dark secret which would be the end of her if it got out. This is also the chapter where the students relationships are at an all time low and there’s constant fighting and drama between everyone. And as well there’s also desperate need for medical attention as everyone’s getting injuries from the recovery from the cold (that motive turned out to be way more important to the story than I planned it to be oop).

Chapter 5 is where one of the characters is outed for their manipulative behaviour and how they’ve been pushing people to dark mental states for their own benefit. And there’s a motive where a random student is selected to be the “co-host” where they help with whatever the replacement is for monokuma in running the killing game. They’re still a participant and can kill or be killed but can add and remove rules, although not one’s relating to the kg itself. And you can guess who was chosen as the co host. This murders particularly interesting as the body was incinerated and the ashes scattered throughout the school so it was impossible to tell where the body is and how they died.

Chapter 6 is different from the canon chapter 6 as there’s actually a daily life. Where the characters managed to get in contact with another group of ultimates planning to save them and there’s a huge break in where they attempt to save the surviving students but everyone’s forced into lockdown and when they get out they find one of the rescuers murdered, and it seems clear the mastermind did it.

I want the end to be anticlimactic, if that makes sense. Not to end with a big victory like “we finally done it and we shall avenge everyone who’s died!” But instead the survivors just completely break down. Everything’s over, they won, but now what? So many people have died and you’re now free, but at what cost. And instead of everyone celebrating their victory it ends on them crying and suffering, as I feel like that’s a more realistic ending to have and would also encapsulate the weight of everything that happened

And that’s a short summary of my fangan at this point, and yes I mean short. There are some things I left out which I’ll probably talk about later but this is how much I’m obsessing over something I’ll likely never make a reality as I have absolutely no idea how to code and if I do make it I’ll be one of those people who swears to do it completely by themselves and if that does happen I feel like this post will come back to bite me as I kinda spoiled like half the story lmao

“I personally headcanon, and I think there's enough to go off in canon to support it, that Dan was closer to Alison than Rufus before she left.” Okay I love this take and it makes me sooo curious what the Humphrey family dynamic was actually like before Alison left and Dan stepped into a more parental role with Jenny!! The only Humphrey childhood anecdotes I can specifically remember are the one from 1x06 where Jenny tells Serena the story about 5 year old Dan being terrified of the Ice Capades, and the one from 1x15 that Rufus initially misremembers:

Rufus Humphrey: [to Jenny] You used to cry when I didn't walk you to school.

Jenny Humphrey: That wasn't me. That was Dan.

Dan Humphrey: I was six. It was a very emotional time for me, post T-ball.

And the subtext of the 1x15 bit stands out to me, because in the show’s present it’s obviously Dan who’s afforded all of the autonomy and treated more like an equal by Rufus while Jenny’s just a kid in need of protection, yet in these few glimpses we’re given of the past Jenny’s the one who seems to have been the more independent and self-reliant kid, while Dan comes across as having been a lot more sensitive and delicate when he was a child.

I’m curious what the early/middle childhood sibling relationship was actually like between Dan and Jenny - were they parented more equally back then and did they therefore have a more equal relationship, or was Jenny always treated as the more problematic of the two? Were Rufus and Jenny ever afforded the easier going, buddy-buddyish type of bond that Dan and Rufus have when Alison was around to be The Mom™️, and is that why Rufus kind of sucks as a disciplinarian in the present even though he’s otherwise a decent dad? Or did Rufus and Dan only develop that type of relationship as a direct consequence of Alison’s departure? And at what point did Alison become so fed up with her marriage and her life that she decided moving away and giving up primary custody of her kids was the best thing for everyone, and how long did that tension simmer beneath the surface?

I've kind of always assumed that Alison was doing the bulk of the child rearing. I don't think Rufus was an absent father, but I do think it was the traditional gender role stuff of Rufus focuses on keeping the family afloat by running the gallery while Alison stays home with the kids. So when Alison leaves, Rufus has to become a lot more involved with the day-to-day of raising children than he ever was before.

With what I know of sibling dynamics, I kinda feel like Dan being the sensitive, needy one kinda pushed Jenny into being the more self-reliant one. Like all kids are sensitive and needy but the way they express it is formed by the dynamics of their home. But because Dan was the older one, he did mature first, and you know, being an eldest sibling myself, your parents do start to rely on you at a certain point to help with your younger sibling, which clearly is what happened with Dan.

I think Jenny probably only really became the "problematic" child when she started at Constance immediately prior to season 1. I think a lot of Rufus, Dan, and Alison's reactions to Jenny that season imply that they're not used to her acting like this/that they're seeing a new side to her. Which makes sense if this is Jenny's first year in the prep school system and the Humphrey sibs went to public school K-8.

Rufus does a lot of the typical dad double standard stuff when parenting his son vs his daughter, which makes me think that even though Dan and Rufus weren't as close before Alison left, they could still be buddy-buddy in a father-son way. While with Jenny, I could see her being a daddy's girl when she was younger, but her father didn't look at her like a "buddy" in the same way he did his son, if that makes sense? But like I said, I think Dan and Rufus truly became more like peers when Alison left and Dan stepped up into a parental role.

And then as for Alison...I mean, she gave up her artistic dreams to be a mom. Rufus at least had the gallery to go to during the day, while she was at home with the kids. I think she has a line somewhere about how her entire adult life has been about Rufus, so it sounds like it's the very typical thing that happens in a marriage where the woman kinda ends up giving up her identity to focus on being a wife and a mother and then she wakes up one day and doesn't know who she is anymore. I imagine it's the kind of thing that's "slowly, then all at once" where she slowly loses herself and becomes unhappier as the years go on and then she woke up one day in the spring of 2007 and said "that's it, I'm done" and decided then and there to leave for Hudson for the summer.

And part of me really gets it and another part of me really doesn't, because how could you just give up having custody of your kids like that? Like Rufus and Alison never seem to have a custody battle, my guess is that they have nothing in writing, Rufus has no qualms about her staying in the loft with the kids while he's on tour in between seasons 1 and 2, and it's initially his idea to send Jenny to Alison at the end of season 3. So it's fully her choice to stay in Hudson and rarely visit. Which I know is just cause of how TV production works, but in universe...yeah I don't really fully know how she was able to just...go months and months without seeing her kids like that. Especially because she seems very maternal when we do see her with them. Idk. In my Alison fic, I decided that it's because while she felt strongly she had to be in Hudson, she had moved around a lot herself when she was a kid and didn't want to uproot her own kids like that.

But yeah, the show never really takes the time to explore why she went all the way up to Hudson, instead of just getting her own place in the city, or write throwaway lines about her calling or visiting beyond season 1 so it's all just up to your own interpretation.

Do you think that most D**ir shippers are Dan fans rather than Blair l fans?

I am going forward with the rewatch and I have been reading stuff here andvon other platforms and I have noticed that most D**ir focus on what Dan feels or what Dan does for Blair, ignoring Blair's emotional and mental state at the time

Furthermore they seem to want to rid Blair from all the things that make her Blair (like her ruthlessness and scheming)

Idk... For me Blair wouldn't be Blair without the good and the bad. So it makes me wonder if these people just.... Don't like Blair very much.....

hi!! this is such a good question tysm and this is gonna be long so I hope u don't mind 🫶🏻 I think generally yes d*ir fans do seem to be more fans of dan than they are of blair, and I think there are a few reasons (that I've seen) for this. some of it comes from penn badgley fans as a lot of ppl who discovered him from you on netflix have then watched gg and like dan purely bc it's him. some of it also comes from this rehash of the idea that chuck's "bad" bc of the pilot and ignoring his development, and dan's "good" bc... he's not chuck lol.

ur right in that a lot of them don't want blair to be, well, herself. as I said in my other meta post there's a lot of focus on how blair's "better" when she's with dan. she doesn't scheme, she doesn't do anything, really, except from talk about movies and artists. they think that this watered down version of blair is her true self, even though if u watch the previous 4 and a half seasons it's obvious that's just not true. they want blair to be this girl who's content to spend her days visiting museums and waiting around for dan who she's clearly not. there's nothing wrong with her that dan needs to fix, and chuck didn't corrupt her. she can be interested in art and movies and still scheme and be mean. there's no mutual exclusivity to any of her personality traits, they can all co-exist and are what make her blair. like chuck said in s2 it's stupid to want her to be anything other than what she is.

also, ur so right again in that they ignore blair's mental state. she's obviously not in a good place in s5 and probably shouldn't jump into any relationship after her divorce. but dan pushes her into it. throughout the show she belittles him, insults him, makes fun of serena dating him, and generally just doesn't like him. while they're dating she still doesn't seem that keen on him. there's talk of how she's happier and smiling all the time with dan, but she's not. she effectively throws a tantrum being seen out with him and she can't celebrate his career, she instead undermines and upstages him. her behaviour doesn't seem like someone who's found her perfect match. it seems like someone who's in a confusing transitional period of her life and clings to the nearest man, like she did with carter in s2. if dan was this great perfect man he'd say he couldn't date her right away, let her sort herself out. but no, he forces her to be more than just friends bc, where she's so isolated from everyone else, if she loses him then she loses her only support system (the fact that she becomes so reliant on dan humphrey in the wake of her miscarriage is something for another post) so she kind of has to get into a relationship with him, even though she's not ready mentally.

in terms of liking blair, I think that most d*ir fans like their own version of blair, instead of the canon version. this might be connected to them often preferring dan, and then they just project traits onto blair that aren't hers. I don't know why they don't do this to serena btw, bc her relationship with dan is significantly more important, and she was far more willing to do "ordinary" things with him than blair. ultimately I think they want d*ir, and blair individually, to be something they're not and were never going to be. d*ir isn't sethmer or paceyjoey or whoever else they compare them to. blair isn't someone they can shape into fitting their ideas like dan does, she's her own distinct character and if they don't like her then they should admit it instead of mischaracterising her

heyyy so, basically, i've been meaning to organize some kind of event for the 10 years anniversary of pkmn xy. the initial plan was to team up with noah to host a zine but honestly i don't think either of us have the mental bandwidth to do that rn, but i'd still like to do some kind of community thing bc i think it's in the spirit of the game. so i'm curious what options people would be more interested in:

an exchange open to any medium where people sign up and get assigned a random person and have to make something for them. would probably be hosted on ao3 but i'm willing to have sign ups done via a form if people who don't have accounts want to join in

a bang/reverse bang where one artist and one writer team up to make something together. this would require more organization but would be more do-able for me i think

stick to a free digital zine but have it be a more laid-back thing and maybe get help from other people who might be interested in helping mod/organize it

other ideas if you have them (another fanweek maybe?)

all of these options could be focused on prfr only or encompass the whole game (so for example if we did an exchange we could either let everyone sign up requesting only prfr or we could let people request other ships like serena/shauna, frenchflag, or even request platonic relationships or works focused on one character) for the zine or bang i also kinda liked the idea of having post-canon as a theme since the goal is to celebrate the 10th anniversary but idk.

i have rly limited social energy rn but it's getting to the middle of the year and i feel kinda bad for not having anything set up yet basically 😭 so yeah idk. feel free to let me know what you think!

IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK LITERALLY TWO MONTHS TO ANSWER. it has been sitting in my drafts for months!

Here's my old idea. We’re pretending that the recent Gossip Girl reboot isnt canon.

The reboot title wouldn’t have Gossip Girl in it. It would be more like “Upper East Side.”

I would like to change my old idea a little bit.

Chuck - Dead. Everyone has to come back for his funeral. He can be in flashback scenes with Blair. He was hiding that he was terminally ill. Only Blair and Lily knew he was sick.

Dan - successful novelist and travels the world with Serena. Serena wants to start a family while Dan keeps pushing it off. They separate and Serena goes back to NY. Vanessa and Dan rekindle. Dan goes back to NY to ask Serena for a divorce. However, Dan decides to stick around because he missed his friends and family and gets jealous when Serena is seen with an old flame.

Serena - Steps back into the NY social scene after living in Dan’s shadow for years. She decides to live with Blair to help her after Chuck’s passing. Serena has been having an emotional affair with Carter since running into him during one of Dan’s press tours in Europe. Serena tries to hide her feelings for Carter by dating [insert new celebrity character]. Serena distracts herself by focusing on becoming an IT girl again.

Blair - Chuck and Blair were keeping Chuck’s illness a secret. They were hoping they could find a cure but Chuck ends up not wanting to fight anymore. Blair and Chuck failed to conceive another child through the years. She tried IVF and researched the surrogate route but she found herself putting her career first. Later, Serena gets pregnant with Carter’s baby. This causes drama between Serena and Blair because Serena got pregnant without trying. Blair is so angry and exhausted from Chuck’s death and family drama, she approves a marketing campaign that gets horrible backlash. Blair has an emotional breakdown and starts going to therapy. Blair ends up meeting a new love interest that catches her off guard. Serena ends up working with a competitor which drives a bigger wedge between their friendship.

Jenny - Surprisingly, Blair and Jenny worked several years together under the Eleanor Waldorf brand. Blair and Jenny won’t call each other “friends” but they have a mutually respectful relationship. Jenny ended up leading the company and started her own brand similar to Staud, Anine Bing, etc. She’s an edgy fashion mogul and dated many rockstars, photographers, and artists. Blair talks shit in the press about Jenny’s brand which causes drama. Jenny creates an alliance with Nelly Yuki.

Nate - Sold the spectator to a major media outlet. He became a VC and loves to invest in new tech companies. His family wants him to revisit the idea of becoming a politician. Nate’s family set him up on a date with a woman in the political world. Nate has a been hooking up with Jenny on and off for years. Nate just started becoming friends with Dan again so it makes their friends with benefits relationship awkward. they end it and just stay friends. Nate is jealous that most of his family settled down and started a family. Nate ends up becoming a politician and finds himself in an enemies to lovers relationship with his arranged love interest.

Carter Baizen - Considering Sebastian is pretty famous now I think he deserves a bigger role. Carter becomes the main love interest of Serena. It’s a slow burn relationship. He reconnected with Nate and gets asked to help with his political campaign. After paying his debt to the Buckley’s, he ended up working his way up in the business and became a well-respected businessman/public figure. He is still shady at times and will cross the line to get what he wants. Similar to a Michael Rubin type of business man. He tries not to fall for Serena again but it ends up happening organically.

Georgina - Makes a grand entrance at the funeral causing a lot of drama with Blair. Georgina reveals that Chuck has been secretly paying off press and PR representatives to make Blair’s collections seem more successful than they actually are. Georgina finds interest in an new anonymous gossip IG account “Deuxmoi inspired.”

Vanessa - I want Vanessa to be less annoying. So I think she should be an executive producer for an independent entertainment company (A24). She mostly focuses on projects that promote important causes but her boss demands that she gets a producer that will bring in money for the company. So she pitches a docuseries about Chuck Bass’ life. Blair is against the idea at first but then eventually agrees to it. It documents his career journey and the last few months of his life.

Lily - On husband #7 now. She’s married to a Mark Cuban type businessman (New Character). Lily and Serena aren’t very close. Eric moved to London with his husband. Lily has two step-daughters who are 23 & 27. They’re very Mary Kate & Ashley meets Gigi & Bella vibes but more public and kind of Serena 2.0. Lily started a company like Goop with her husband.

Lily’s Step Daughters - I figured we need a few younger characters who have a different perspective. They’re cool NY socialites who know the ins and outs of NY. The become the face of Jenny’s brand which launches them into the spotlight. Blair also takes a liking to them. The sisters end up choosing sides in the Serena vs Blair war that takes over NY. Some of their friends can also make appearances that get entangled in the OG cast’s drama.

Rufus - Married a world renowned artist who is very popular amongst Lily and her friends. Rufus is far less annoying and opened his own Weed Dispensary that’s doing very well and collaborates with Goop. Maybe an affair with Lily?????

Who is Gossip Girl?

Gossip Girl is…one of Lily’s step-daughters. But she’s rebrands gossip girl to be something cooler and more exclusive. Think of it like Raya and the clubhouse app. She anonymously hosts a party at zero bond and when guests download the app they have access to secret videos, scandals, and text messages between the OG Casts, Celebrity Gossip, and Political Figures.

Hello everyone!

There were no posts for a long time, but in honor of the coming new year, I remembered a half-dead franchise that I hadn’t thought about for a long time. SWEET ELITE. This game is like a dead pet that I love too much to bury. I will not go into the history of this franchise, because if you are reading this post, then you probably at least roughly know what kind of drama happened. But from the most recent one: Sweet Elite author Serena sold the idea of a Dulcet game and left the company.

But I wanted to talk about something else. After replaying the first chapters, resurrecting my emotions, foaming how it all began and where it all came to, I need to share my thoughts. I want to say that I love Sweet Elite very much and this post is a cry from the heart of a fan who just wants the game that gave so many wonderful moments not to disappear abandoned and forgotten by everyone.

So here is my list of things to do in Dulcet Game (and I really hope it gets done):

1) Optimize the site. Because from the moment the site became multi-game, its performance has plummeted. I've always had good internet, and the fact that I have to wait more than a few minutes for a chapter to load is not okay. The idea of having a site that will have a lot of games where you can create those games is a great idea. But if this site is not working, then it makes no sense.

2) Revive the main franchise. Although I am biased in this matter, but no one will argue that Sweet Elite is the most famous and beloved story among players. Accordingly, it must be revived so as not to lose the remaining fan base.

For this you need:

• Find a new author who already loves the story and is willing to take on a project already started. Because there will always be those who will say that it used to be better and that since Serena is not writing this, then this is not canon.

• This wish is more of a luxury than a necessity, but still. It is worth changing the main artist. If the Sweet Elite was one of many stories, or not the first, the current style could be the place to be. However, now, in a period of decline, the Sweet Elite needs to be the best version of themselves. More attractive and pleasing to the eye. Yes, these are additional costs. Yes, we will have to wait longer. But we are already waiting for a long time, and the Sweet Elite has already survived 3 redrawing. Will survive another one.

3) Launch at least ONE regularly released game. In fact, users of the Dulcet game platform do not have a single live and working game. This waiting sim game is just wasting people's time that they could have spent on stories. Written stories. Stories that do not postpone the main content for tomorrow.

4) This paragraph follows from the previous ones. The site needs to be updated with the latest information. For example, it is necessary to remove Black Tarot and Kortia from the site, as the authors have stopped working on these projects.

Finally, I want to wish good luck to Serena and at the same time express the hope that this whole story has not completely discouraged her from creating. And also to strongly ask Dulcet Games to do SOMETHING. Because you either move on or disappear into history. And I can only hope that this will not be the second option.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

hmmm... within the gossip girl canon, i'd say any type of vulnerability. simply because the kids have grown up in environments which do not necessarily allow for that, so it's not natural for any of them to open up and show their achilles heel like that (not even dan and jenny, i don't think, whom despite having a better family sitch than the UES kids, still had a shit time at school with being friendless/being bullied, etc.)

i really like that bit in despicable b where blair admits her weakness, for that reason; it's so counter-intuive to her normal responses, it shows a lot of trust. nate opening up to vanessa about the catherine thing. serena's whole 'blair i just killed a man.' dan and vanessa lying on the floor in the loft in s2 with their beers, and 'i don't think i'm going to yale' / 'i just slept with chuck bass.' nate being the first person to see milo. blair wearing vanessa's clothes. jenny and nate in blair's birthday episode, and in that s3 episode where nate gets her back home safely, both of them talking to each other about life and being honest and open about it. simple things like that, those things give me the feels.

the first thing that came to mind was this banter from this fic, so i'm putting that here. the

that fic overall is kind of sad though, so if we're thinking of the work as a whole, i think turning saints into the sea might be my funniest yet.

sadly, i don't think it's a gossip girl fic, LOL. i think it's probably this fluffy gay owl house fic.

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

there's a jojo-fic i'm writing which is modern au in which the villains aren't evil, and all the canon violence is referenced as shitty inside jokes instead (eg: character who has stabbed people is now a tattoo artist, and people he has stabbed violently in canon now get tattoos in this au, and joke about being stabbed while getting inked. sigh)

as for gossip girl, the entirety of the "dan and serena get married to commit crime" fic, maybe, though that wasn't 'playfully mean to the readers' as much as it was 'we are all in on this stupid joke together.' i think this part of that fic, especially, was very clever of me (lmao):

Hello again! This week, let’s ask this: who are some characters who have never met that you’d love to have meet? I think that Sapphire and Iris would have a lot of fun outdoorsy adventures! Alternately it would be immensely entertaining to put Gary, Ruby, Drew, Paul, Harley, Barry, Burgundy, and Gladion in a room together like some sort of hellish rival gathering just to see what happens. Bonus ask: place your guesses on how that would go if you feel like it. Go wild.

Heck yeah let's go!! Some off the top of my head:

Drew and Gary: my favorite nevermet, I think their interactions would be fun. I feel like they'd either hit it off instantly or wouldn't be able to stand each other, there is no in between. And even if they get off to a rocky start, I think they've got things to bond over, and could have a real understanding of each other's struggles with perfectionism due to the pressure they're under (Drew being essentially a child celebrity, Gary being an Oak).

Gary and Sonia: the parallel between Ash and Gary and Leon and Sonia stands out to me so much. We got interaction between Ash and Leon, I think Gary and Sonia should've been friends too--she could be a nice big sister type to him, and they could relate to each other over being a professor's grandchild and their relationships with their former rivals.

Gary and Clemont: I haven't seen much of XY but. Gay scientists.

Misty and Serena: I'm tired of them being pitted against each other, they should be friends (or girlfriends perhaps?) instead. Misty canonically loves French things because she thinks they're romantic and Serena is French.

Drew and Tracey: I feel like these two would get along so well if there was any chance whatsoever of them meeting. They're both artists in their own ways and even if Drew can be a little pretentious, I think they'd enjoy talking to each other about the arts.

Tracey and Goh: I've said it before and I'll say it again: gay autistic transmasc solidarity.

Open when it’s Valentine’s Day…

Serena has hated Valentine’s Day for as long as she can remember, she has to think it’s probably due to the fact that it was on Valentine’s Day many years ago that she first found out Edward was cheating on her, and what an idiot she’d been to ever trust him after that.

She’s sat at pulses, had needed to grab a quick coffee mid shift, Jason had had one of those wobbly days last yesterday, one where he’d struggled to cope with the fact Bernie isn’t around and had needed Serena to be his rock. She’d spent the evening until almost midnight sat with him watching telly, knowing she’d be tired at work today but not being able to bring herself to say no to what Jason had needed. She feels like she’s walked into a movie, the coffee shop is covered in pink and red hearts and love quotes, and she can’t help but roll her eyes, does everyone really need to go so over the top, don’t they love each other every day anyway?

She watches as a couple sit and exchange kisses over the table and shakes her own head at how cynical she is being. Everyone needs something to look forward to she supposes and if Valentine’s Day means there is a bit more love in the world, then maybe it’s not so bad after all. There is definitely far too much hate in the world. The fact that her morning has already consisted of a stab victim and a hit and run victim should tell her that.

She listens to the love song playing in the background, giving her an excuse to let her mind wander from work just a little, even she needs a break after all she’s only human. Her mind thinks of Bernie at the lyrics, sappy really but she can’t help but be reminded of her lover, and maybe she’s just a little jealous that she isn’t here with her like so many of the couples she’s currently surrounded by.

At the thought of Bernie, she also can’t help but laugh because she’d be lucky if Bernie even knows this song, let alone the title, lyrics or the artist. She’s tried and tried to educate Bernie musically but it’s always useless. Bernie always uses the excuse that she’s spent so much of her life on deployment that she just never had the space for the specific knowledge even if she can appreciate the music itself and Serena guesses she does have a point in some ways.

She sips her coffee, flinching slightly when she realises it’s still too hot to drink. Has to guess she really is being far too pessimistic, here she is surrounded by love, romance and joy and her partner is in a war zone, where apart from the valentines packages that arrives with the soldiers, Serena’s one for Bernie included, there won’t be much if any love and romance. It’s times like this where she feels like there is a chasm between them, like they’re in two different worlds rather than separated by just three thousand miles.

She reminds herself then that Bernie has told her so many times that her feelings are valid. That their situations are different, and they will have different feelings and emotions but the fact that in Serena’s opinion Bernie is in a much worse position than she herself is right now doesn’t invalidate her feelings. That she’s still able to feel like she misses Bernie so much she’s not sure how she’s going to get through the last few months, or that maybe she is jealous and even more cynical of Valentine’s Day this year because she doesn’t have her lover to enjoy it with. None of those feelings make her ungrateful or mean they just make her human.

She loves that about Bernie, the way she understands her and her needs in a way no one else does. The way she keeps looking out for her even when she’s three thousand miles away. Then she remembers what has been helping to keep her going from three thousand miles away and wonders if she’ll get an envelope today. Knows there isn’t one in her special box, but also knows that Bernie had entrusted Morven with at least a small selection of letters and gifts for her. And if she hasn’t, she’ll use today as an excuse to open a different envelope anyway.

She tries her coffee again then, realising it’s now the perfect temperature and that she should probably finish it on the way back to the ward, she’d have an F1s guts if they couldn’t get through a shift without coffee, maybe she’s a little harsh on them sometimes, or maybe it’s a perk of being clinical lead.

All thought of Valentine’s Day is driven from her mind as she arrives back to the ward just as the red phone rings, she answers it as she’s closest, she situates the phone under her ear, holding it with her shoulder. Grabbing the necessary paperwork to jot down all the relevant information, while ensuring she finishes her coffee, has a feeling she’s going to be in surgery a while when this case gets brought in. They are guessing at an angulated tib and fib fracture but with added vascular complications as the foot currently has a very limited pulse despite the best effort. It’s a trauma injury really, and Bernie would have been the most perfect person, but she guesses the fact she is a vascular specialist should do her well.

AAU becomes a hive of activity as the patient is brought in, tests and X-rays and all sorts of other things needed before they can get into theatre, but at the same time knowing that this is most certainly time sensitive. It’s times like this when she’s glad they have the trauma bay, that it allows her to demand priority over so many other areas of the hospital.

The surgery is complicated, she has to get Fletcher to ring Jason to tell him she’ll be late home. She wants to do it herself but even with her and Raf working on the patient it’s tough and they don’t have the time it’ll take her to scrub in an out. Can’t help but worry about him especially after yesterday, tells Fletch to tell Jason to ring the ward if he needs anything at all, even if strictly it’s against hospital policy. She’s working extra hours to ensure this patient survives and keep their leg and while she wouldn’t do anything less if that means she has to break policy to allow Jason to ring the ward then that’s what she’ll do.

It’s gone 11pm when they finally send the patient off to recovery, Serena rolls her shoulders and yawns, tries to work out if there is even any point going home, she’s due on shift at 6am in the morning, believes the on call room is free and wonders if she should save herself the that is drive home and back to the hospital in the morning.

“Thanks, Raf,” she says as they wash down in the sink, water just slightly on the hot side really.

He smiles at her, “No worries, not like either of us had anyone to spend Valentines with anyway, me perfectly single and you definitely not single but separated by thousands of miles! Maybe we’ll both have more luck next year.” It should make her a little sad that Bernie isn’t here, but it doesn’t, AAU always used to be a sex free zone after all!

She yawns again as she walks to her office, decides it’s definitely safer for her to sleep in the on-call room for the night but that she needs to ring Jason. He assures her that he’s okay, that he was just heading to bed and is due in work at 10am tomorrow anyway, that he’ll pop down and see if she’s free on his break, his break is at least a little more guaranteed than her own.

It’s only as she gets off the phone that Morven pokes her head round the door, envelope in front of her face and messily wrapped gift in hand. She chuckles and tells Morven to come in.

“I was hoping to give you these at hand over but failed seeing as you and Raf were stuck in theatre, and I’m not sure Bernie planned on you opening them in the on-call room, but I suppose to you you just appreciate something to feel close to her right now.” Serena smiles as that’s exactly it, the situation might not be perfect, but she knows the letter will be.

Not even ten minutes later she’s sat in her “work pyjamas” as she calls them, the ones she keeps in the cupboard in her office just in case a situation like this where she has to stay ever arises. Bernie’s letter and gift in hand. She opens the gift first, always wants to leave Bernie’s letter until last especially tonight so it can be the last thing she thinks of before bed.

Inside her gift is a beautiful wine stopper set, a stopper for when she does decide that just one glass is enough, she is a professional after all and knows her limits. The other is a stopper that still allows the wine to breathe, perfect for use when she’s cooking a meal and knows that the perfect bottle just needs to breathe a little beforehand, they are beautiful but there is definitely no need for them tonight, so she puts them in her handbag and turns to the letter as she settles down in the rather uncomfortable on call bed.

Serena – open on Valentine’s Day…

She smiles maybe Bernie isn’t quite so cynical about Valentine’s Day as she is.

My Dearest Serena,

Happy Valentine’s Day to the love of my life. I may not be with you today, but I am honoured to be able to say that you are my girlfriend. I’d say you have no idea how much I am missing you right now after over six months apart, but I guess you do because I can only assume you are missing me just as much. My thoughts so often revolve around you when I have any free moment to think. I can't wait to be able to be graced with your physical presence again but until then you have this letter to help get you through.

What I want to tell you in this letter is that I’ve never been so happy as I am with you. You’ve been the greatest blessing in my life since I laid my eyes on you. You never fail to excite me and always find new ways to surprise me. You are honestly the best girlfriend anyone could ask for and I’m lucky that it’s me you choose to spend your life with.

You are so exceptionally kind too; all of those moments are engraved permanently into my heart, and I’ll always be eternally grateful for them. I would say I’d never find another woman as caring, sweet and emotional as you but even if I could, I wouldn’t want to because you are perfect for me. I love the way you always accept my feelings and understand when I struggle to show them because that’s one of my biggest flaws. No matter the obstacle I throw at you you always stand there strong and give me what I need waiting for me to be ready and able to share with you, and only with you because you are the only one I trust.

No matter how low I’m feeling or stressed out I am the thought of you always lifts my spirits. You’ve improved my self-confidence no end with your compliments. All I can do right now is say thank you for your endless devotion to our relationship and to me. I love you endlessly.

How do you feel about the Rufus-Dan parent-child relationship, particularly as it evolved throughout the show? I know there have been a lot of discussions about Rufus and Jenny, which makes sense given how overtly fucked that relationship became, but Rufus and Dan are equally fascinating to me in the way they start out with probably the strongest of parental bonds on the show, yet end up where they are post-Inside. At some point it feels like the show writers started writing the Dan-Rufus relationship as if they were friends or peers more than father and son, and the in-universe implications of that are really interesting I think.

Yeah! I think it's complicated by a lot of different things.

1) Rufus and Alison were clearly very young parents when they had kids, like early to mid 20s young. I personally have always headcanoned that they got married because Alison was pregnant with Dan and Rufus pretty much says at one point that he gave up his music career to be a dad. So I think the fact that the age difference between Dan & Rufus is pretty slim is definitely a contributing factor to how that dynamic operates.

2) I personally headcanon, and I think there's enough to go off in canon to support it, that Dan was closer to Alison than Rufus before she left. And I think Alison leaving put Dan into the mother role for Jenny, which makes Dan and Rufus almost seem like partners parenting Jenny rather than father & son. I think Dan taking on a more parental role towards Jenny after Alison left was entirely his choice, maybe one he didn't even consciously make, but Rufus certainly doesn't seem to do anything about it, and goes on treating Dan like a co-parent when issues with Jenny come up rather than treating him like he's her brother (how Breeland coded of them).

3) I think another big change in Dan & Rufus' dynamic occurs when Dan starts dating Serena, and Rufus starts reliving his past with Lily through Dan. Like I personally think Dan is more like Alison and Jenny takes after Rufus, but with this, Dan is now acting like Rufus (in Rufus' eyes at least).

Anyway all of that contributes to where they are in season 1. Throughout season 1, Rufus constantly gives Dan advice about Serena, but a lot of it feels less like father/son advice and more like advice from a peer. In the Thanksgiving episode, Dan makes a comment to Rufus about how finding out that he and Lily used to date has probably set Dan back months from having sex with Serena for the first time and it's so...It's just such a weird thing to say to your father. Like that feels like a comment Dan would make to Nate. So the fact that he feels comfortable being so blunt about his sex life like that with his own father is very telling of how their relationship is more like two friends.

Honestly, I feel like Rufus almost forgets he still needs to parent Dan until all the Rachel Carr stuff in s2. And the way the show handles that is uh, bad. And it paints Rufus as irrationally angry for being upset that his son is sleeping with a grown woman when he's really being the only sane one. (linking this fic now for reasons)

That might be the first moment when their relationship really starts to turn, because I think Rufus kinda has been going along like "Dan's gonna be fine, Dan's a good kid with no serious issues, the worst thing that ever happens to him is he's not popular at school, I don't need to worry about Dan" and then the Carr stuff happens and he realizes Dan is Not Fine, but at this point Dan is 18 and about to be off to college and Rufus is Too Late (he's not but you know...that's certainly how the show acts sometimes, that these kids don't need to be parented anymore once they're off at college).

And then all the Inside stuff...I think a lot of tension between Dan & Rufus, and also Jenny & Rufus, comes from the fact that Dan & Jenny grew up in a home where their parents' artistic dreams remained unfulfilled. Both Rufus and Alison gave up their dreams/careers to focus on being parents. And I think Jenny and Dan are both very conscious of that and while they love their parents, they both have big dreams and lots of ambition and don't want to see that squandered like their parents.

But while Rufus maybe isn't creatively fulfilled, I think he doesn't regret his decision of choosing being a dad over music. (I think his only real regret in life is not fighting for Lily back then) But when Dan implies in his book that all Rufus has amounted to is being Lily's house husband, I think he's rightfully insulted. He gave up his music career to be Dan's dad. He sold his art gallery to fund Dan's college tuition. He finally got to marry the love of his life, the one thing he's probably done that's entirely for him and not his kids in 20 years, and now Dan's publicly giving him shit for that? Fuck that.

And of course, Dan doesn't really see any of that. He might be ungenerous in his reading of his father, but he's not wrong either, that all Rufus is doing is being a house husband now (minus the whole brief thing with Panic, but the writers were entirely uninterested in exploring that anyway). To Dan, this is a cautionary tale. To Rufus, this is just how life goes sometimes.

Neither of them is wrong. But they're not on the same page anymore.
