The Voice from the Outer World
Dune is a story of failure. SPOILERS for Dune Part 2 below
Power corrupts and all of that. We all know this. So we would be able to avoid it, right? If you know what happens you can chose another option. You would be different.
And here's a story that shows that even when you know all of this and more and can literally see the future it's still not enough.
I get why people often think that to avoid this the person in power shouldn't want that power. That this would make them somehow immune. And this logic has multiple faults (like - how can you be good at doing something you hate?) and one of them is that just not wanting to abuse power doesn't mean you would do right things with it.
We are reminded multiple times in the film (and the books also aren't shy about it) that Fremen religious belief in a saviour is not something that arose naturally. It's a belief seeded by Bene Gesserit's Missionaria Protectiva. They seeded superstitions and myths in different cultures so they could use them in a future emergency. Everything Fremen believe about their Mahdi was created so their faith could be used by a Bene Gesserit in need. And both Jessica and Paul are aware of this even before they even set a foot on Arrakis.
It's specifically made for the saviour to be a foreign one (Lisan al-Gaib is The Voice from the Outer World) because the people who made and planned to use this prophecy were ones from an outsider culture. Paul doesn't hijack Fremen beliefs to insert himself as their white saviour. These beliefs was specifically created for someone like him to use.
It was made with purpose of hijacking Fremen religion into protecting the foreigners who know how this prophecy was constructed. This is a parasitic belief (cuckoo-like faith) and the truth doesn't set anyone free. We see why with Stilgar as he wants to believe so much that everything becomes a sign. Even when he's told this has been fabricated and he was manipulated he warps it into something that supports his beliefs not undermines them. I'm sure you've seen this in real life, in real politics if not religion.
Jessica and Chani got changed the most from their book versions. They've become opposite sides of the ideological divide. Not between religion and lack of it - Jessica obviously not a believer - but between using people and letting them decide their own future.
Book Jessica is more apprehensive of Paul's choices. She's often more worried he may not survive the trials than pushing for them for power. In here she becomes the driving force of using the messianic belief Bene Gesserit implanted for Paul's benefit. She makes sure Fremen believe he fits the story. She doesn't care about Paul's wishes to avoid this burden. She knows it doesn't matter when he tells the people the truth about Bene Gesserit, their abilities and their manipulation techniques. Belief is impervious to proof and confirmation bias makes you reject all evidence to the contrary.
But then, in the film, Jessica is kind of possessed. Stilgar warns Paul not to listen to the djinn but neither he nor his mother can stop listening to the voices. The film removes Alia's book doings but replaces them with foreshadowing of what she becomes. She whispers the truths about the future to her mother even before she is born. Funny how this change make her, not Paul, the first fully prescient Atreides. She is manipulating the events when Paul refuses to and that's foreshadowing too. When Jessica took the Water of Life while pregnant she did it for the power this new position among the Fremen would give her. Alia never stood a chance. She was pre-born into this.
The only one trying to stand in the way of succumbing to the power corruption is movie version of Chani. She was never believer in a saviour. She wants her people to save themselves. They already have a plan for a better future that doesn't involve killing worlds for the Empire they never wanted anything to do with. They were not supposed to be warriors of the prophet. She sees this for what it is - a way to control her people. She understands this is another form of enslavement. The only difference is that this one is embraced. No one listens to her when she tells them the truth. They only see what they want to see.
The power that comes from being close to the rule is just as blinding when you stand close to the throne as it is when you sit on it.
And the sad part is she knows she played a part in this happening to as she convinced Paul to give this a try. She didn't see the visions he saw so she hoped he can remain the person she fell in love with. When he submits to the way prescience shows him and takes over the faith we feel her heartbreak. She watches him becoming what he feared and everyone around him stops her from trying to save him (not just other Fremen or Jessica - Gurney puts atomic arsenal in Paul's hands).
Paul doesn't bring freedom. He just changes who holds the power but in the end the structures of power remain (the similarities between Saudarkar and Fremen are not accidental). And billions die so it can happen. But billions is a an abstract number. It's much easier to feel the consequences when they hit close and personal.
Everyone around Paul gets to gain something - Gurney gets revenge on Rabban, Jessica and Stilgar get to destroy Harkonnens and Emperor. They are on top now. The power corrupts even before you even hold it. Just the promise of power is enough.
This film version of Chani doesn't let us forget that this is what we watch. That what is happening is not a good thing. We as humans have tendency to gloss over big numbers of deaths when it's unseen people with whom we have no emotional connections. Through her eyes the loss is so much more personal. She loses her Usul to Paul Muad'Dib. And he takes her people and her planet too.
As Paul says - they are Harkonnens too. And they do what Harkonnens do too. The difference was always cosmetic.
And one more thing. A lot is said about Arabic and Muslim influences in Fremen culture and religion but they aren't the only ones. One other is the word used for the places where Fremen live - Sietch. It comes from Zaporozhian Cossack name for their fortified encampments - sich.
In the West the name Cossacks invokes the cruel Russian Imperial forces that tsars used to pacify conquered territories. But this is not what comes to my mind first. In the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth they were free people living in the borderlands of the Commonwealth on the territories often attacked by the Ottomans. The constant raids from Turks meant they were warriors and constantly moving. But this also allowed for a lot of freedom as there wasn't a lot of direct control over these territories for the same reason. This meant that they were often joined by anyone wishing to have that freedom - from peasants escaping indenture to nobles escaping the law.
The dissatisfaction with Polish rule eventually lead to uprising and this part of Ukraine joined Russian Empire. That Empire destroyed all the freedoms Cossacks had and those independent warriors became just another enforcers of conformity for the Empire. They've become exactly what they fought against. I often wondered if Herbert chose the name Sietch intentionally to invoke this turn of events.

Limbus Company: Deep Analysis of Sin
So, I decided to take a deeper dive into the different sin types in Limbus Company.
The TLDR Version:
Wrath - Unable to accept something
Lust - Having a strong desire
Sloth - Losing sight
Gluttony - Satisfaction-seeking
Gloom - Controlled by pain
Pride - Contempt of others/selfishness
Envy - Desire to surpass
Regarding the sinners' skills, the sin position is important as well. A S1 sin is a surface-level appearance, but S3 represents something deep inside them.
The detailed explanations are under the cut!
Wrath
Wrath, on the surface level, can present as being irritable or hard to get along with.
Wrath S1 examples
LCB Ishmael, who seems irritable and nitpicky at first.
Seven Heathcliff "Why am I doing this stupid job?"
Hook Office Hong Lu "Don't speak so softly, I'll feel homicidal"
S2 gets closer to how they really feel. The feeling of wrath comes from the feeling of "I can't accept this" - whether it's how they're being treated, how their environment is, etc.
Wrath S2 examples
LCB Heathcliff (past speculation) - Discriminated, mistreated, resenting what's happening to him
LCB Sinclair (past) - I don't want to get prosthetics
W Corp Hong Lu - Bored with his job.
And S3 wrath represents a strong rejection - they won't accept Anything they deem contrary to their own beliefs and ideals. It is a violent refusal.
Wrath S3 examples
N corp identities who are brainwashed - Kill all the dissenters and heretics.
Pequod Ishmael - "It's MY way or the HIGHWAY, god damn it!" (Throws a fit if another ID kills an enemy)
R Corp Ishmael - Hates it to the point she's looking for Singularity information of old R corp
LCB Rodya - I can't accept this armchair revolution and endless poverty. I have to kill this old windbag.
Lust
Lust in this case is a pursuit of something non-physical - a relationship, an ideal, a core element of your self. On the surface level, this can present as really wanting to be something.
Lust S1 Examples
LCB Don Quixote - Wants to become a great Fixer.
W Corp Ryoshu - Wants to be a great artist.
Sous Chef Gregor - Wants to improve his cooking.
S2 is a little stronger than just normal desire. They will willingly hurt other people or trample them to achieve their goal.
Lust S2 Examples
Tingtang Gangleader Hong Lu - Uses violence and is callous to those invading his turf
The One Who Grips Faust - Massacres Sinclair's village to get what she wants
LCB Ryoshu - Her idea of beauty ties in with violence
S3 is a little different - It's desiring something so badly on an existential level. It's pretty much what they live for.
Lust S3 Examples
R.B. Chef Ryoshu - Needs to be one of the Eight. Will stop at nothing to achieve this.
N Corp Heathcliff - Not brainwashed, doesn't really want to be. Wants to preserve his "true self".
G Corp Gregor - After an irreversible transformation, fully believes his reason to exist is to be a killing machine.
Interestingly, both LCB Heathcliff and Hong Lu have a Lust S3.
Sloth
Sloth is inaction, watching from the sidelines, not seeing what is in front of you. This can start with just simply being misguided, believing something to be true when it's not.
Sloth S1 Examples
W Corp Don Quixote - "I am working at a Wing!! CHOO CHOO!! Sally forth!!"
LCB Outis - Her piss-poor act of blind acceptance and obedience.
LCB Meursault - It is simply none of my business if Sinclair hyperventilates and vomits on the floor.
S2 sloth is more purposeful, not taking action when one should or purposefully being ignorant of reality.
LCB Faust - Does not tell Dante and the others a lot of information and doesn't stop sinners from running amok.
LCB Hong Lu - Despite being perceptive, does not seem to register bad situations as bad or react to pain appropriately.
G Corp Gregor - This feels wrong but I'll just continue with it anyway.
S3 sloth is a total loss of vision, not being able to see what's important to them. Losing sight of all they used to desire, and doing nothing about it.
Dieci IDs - Lost their memory and doesn't even remember what was most important to them.
K Corp Hong Lu - Doesn't seem to mind his total loss of freedom and autonomy, despite desiring freedom in other IDs.
LCB Yi Sang - Could not care about anything he once loved or aspired to be, until he was able to gain his wings once more.
Blade Lineage Don Quixote - Once used her strength to fight alongside her comrades, but now kills for purely her own sake.
Gluttony
Gluttony is a desire to be satisfied, whether it's something material or psychological. This can present like greed or selfishness at first sight.
S1 Gluttony Examples
LCB Rodya - "I want meat, I want money, I want to gamble!"
LCB Ryoshu - "Let me smoke. Let me do as I please."
Lantern EGO Don Quixote - Curious about the abnormalities and wanting to know more about them
S2 Gluttony is wanting more at a crucial point in their life, or desiring more than they could chew. It could also mean getting hooked into something or addicted.
S2 Gluttony Examples
LCB Ishmael - "I quit my job, I need something that's not labour hellscape... Hm? That hag can sure talk..."
R Corp Heathcliff - Began deriving enjoyment from killing
N Corp Don Quixote - Didn't even need the brainwashing, got hooked onto the N Corp ideology herself
S3 Gluttony seems to be the final stage of seeking what they desire - being satisfied, even when they shouldn't be.
S3 Gluttony Examples
Tingtang Gangleader Hong Lu - Seems completely happy and enjoying himself
Seven Heathcliff - Actually learned to like his job
W Corp Hong Lu - Doesn't want praise or a raise, just fine with how things are now
Gloom
Gloom represents pain, and how it affects how the person treats their situation or other people. On the surface level, they may appear melancholic or having given up.
S1 Gloom Examples
LCB Yi Sang, LCB Gregor - Self explanatory.
Rosespanner Meursault - Crushed by work
R Corp Ishmael - Headache, pain, does not like it here
S2 Gloom is a moment of despair, when something in their heart was broken. This may also involve guilt and inflicting pain.
W Corp Don Quixote and most W Corp IDs (Except Hong Lu and Ryoshu) - The shocking reveal of what W Corp really is.
N Corp Heathcliff - "What the hell am I even doing??"
Lobotomy EGO Heathcliff - "All my friends are dead."
S3 Gloom can represent letting their pain affect how they treat others. Lashing out, being insensitive to others' pain, or simply giving up and accepting the hurt as inescapable.
W Corp Yi Sang - Abandoned hopes for freedom, just wants it to hurt a little less
G Corp Outis - Knows she cannot escape the unfair treatment
LCB Ishmael - Lashes out and hurts others because she is deeply hurting, making it more painful for her too
Pride
Pride is the belief that they are different from other people, and so the rules don't apply to them. This can seem as arrogance at first, even if they are not actually like that.
S1 Pride Examples
LCB Sinclair - Rich boy 1
LCB Hong Lu - Rich boy 2
LCB Faust - Doesn't hide that she thinks she's better than everyone else
S2 Pride can contain disdain for other people, and believing they are better than those around them. Therefore, their actions can be excused in their eyes.
S2 Pride Examples
LCB Meursault and LCB Outis - Competent and they know it themselves. Outis thinks of her comrades as dirt and points and laughs when they die.
W Corp Ryoshu - Her art comes from chopping up the dead and deformed passengers, doesn't give a single shit about them
LCB Rodya - Believed she was special enough to make a difference and split the hag's skull.
S3 pride goes a step further - their own desires take precedence over anyone else's. They may even see other people's lives as literally the same as a blade of grass. If they want something, they'll trample everything and anything.
S3 Pride Examples
The One Who Grips Faust - Probably doesn't even give a shit about the grand ideology or her minions. Just did it because she could, and wanted to.
The Middle Little Sister Don Quixote - "I can kill anyone who disrespected my organization!"
LCB Ryoshu - Has the littlest regard for human life.
Envy
Envy can start out with the simple desire to surpass someone, to become better than others. To want more than what other people have.
S1 Envy Examples
Tingtang Gangleader Hong Lu - Began wanting to be stronger, to have more power.
LCB Heathcliff - Rich bastards are annoying, they don't deserve it more than I do
Shi Ishmael - Just wants to survive in a world of dog eat dog
S2 envy is the need to be better than what you once were, to surpass yourself and get something accomplished.
S2 Envy Examples
LCB Yi Sang - Bettered his own craft and created the mirror.
Pequod Members - Lay their past self to rest, and opted to hunt the whale.
R.B. Chef Ryoshu - Wants to make better and better pies
S3 Envy is the result of their desire to surpass - or that they have accomplished something, but with a heavy price.
S3 Envy Examples
W Corp Ryoshu - Extremely powerful, but her sword will suck up her health if she doesn't charge it properly.
R Corp Heathcliff - Gained insane power but lost something important to him in the process.
LCB Sinclair - Was able to avoid getting prosthetics but his whole family dead.
Pequod Heathcliff - Managed to get out of the Middle but is covered in scars he can't erase.
I will continue to write more specific theories, but this is how I feel about the sin affinities right now! I'd love to write about EGO and enemies as well soon.

(Some other guy entirely here) I do think there's not much of a reason to be so against the terms tma/tme though, and I don't really understand why some people are? Like, in the same way we want a word to describe our experiences so do transfems, and while I do believe that all trans people are affected by transphobia and misogyny, it's obviously also true that we're affected by it differently depending on how we present, cause otherwise we'd all be satisfied with just the term transphobia (not saying anything new here so far)
So, since it just so happened that the term transmisogyny was coined to mean specifically the oppression transfems face (regardless of what anyone might feel on the matter, that is what it means in practice), what's really so wrong with having terminology to specify whether you're affected by it or not in online discussions of specifically transmisogyny? I'd think that would be relevant enough information, and you're not obligated to share it unless you want to.
I think what's really bothering a lot of people is that these terms exist for half of our community but there's no acceptable equivalent for the other half, and there's constant backlash against attempts to fill that void in the language. But that's not the fault of anyone who advocates for the use of tme/tma, or rather, they are separate issues that I don't believe should be conflated even if the proponents of tme/tma are the same people who are against specific terms for transmasc oppression.
When we do this, from the pov of trans women we are the ones rejecting their terminology and trying to silence them when they talk about their discrimination, and since we know exactly how that feels, I think we as a community should take a step back on the matter and just let it be.
Just because we feel dismissed when it comes to a similar matter doesn't mean we should dismiss in turn.
Not that anyone needs my permission or anything for this but:
I don't really have any problem with the words transmisogyny or trans-misogyny, as I think they are valuable labels to discuss a specific intersection of transphobia and misogyny.
I am not sure I necessarily have a problem with the terms TMA or TME themselves, outside of that I think it is not possible to be exempt from oppression because it will apply to you even if the label itself is wrong. This is also how hate crime and discrimination law works in this country- it is both your label and what the offender thinks of you, not just one or the other.
In other words, the guy who screamed at me about how I'm a Mexican is incorrect because I'm not Mexican, but it is still considered to be discrimination against Mexicans because it was his hatred of Mexicans that fueled the attack. It doesn't mean that actual Mexicans aren't the actual targets or this, but it does mean that it's not possible for me to be exempt from anti-Mexican sentiment. It doesn't mean that hatred of Mexicans doesn't exist, it does mean that if I want to stop getting screamed at for saying non-English words while visibly brown (I said pate, which is FRENCH and not Spanish, in reference to a can of dog food he was buying), then I need to ally myself with Mexicans and see what I can do to help decrease this hatred of Mexicans within my country.
What I do have a problem with is how these words are used and applied.
Caster Semenya is a "TME" intersex woman who was caught by transmisogynist Olympic rulings intended to hurt trans women, and to this day is still not recognized as a woman. How is this exempt from transmisogyny? She is literally being affected by transmisogyny- and interphobia, and misogynoir, and lesbophobia. And there are more examples than that, but this will already be a long enough post.
Moreover, I'm finding a lot of hypocrisy in the theory itself, labeling certain instances of oppression as things only TMA people experience and then refusing to listen when TME people say that they experience it too. I don't really care what or how people talk about their own experiences, but I do think it's a little ridiculous to be told that someone else who is not me can tell me what I experience better than I can. And then refuse to listen when I say that I have felt the hurts they're saying don't apply to me.
If TMA/TME had stayed within the limits you've set, being about descriptors of your own personal experience rather than trying to apply theory to entire demographics in a way that very little other theorycrafting does, I wouldn't have cared. Unfortunately that's not how it's being used and I don't like that.

do they have deal breakers?
Tumblr media
a/n: idk i just thought this would be an interesting thing to write.
synopsis: what are some deal breakers for them? what can they not tolerate?
includes: slenderman, jeff the killer, eyeless jack, laughing jack, jane the killer, nina the killer, the bloody painter, candy pop, the doll maker, jason the toymaker, dr smiley, nurse ann, the puppeteer, clockwork, zalgo, hobo heart, ticci toby, zero, kagekao, nathan the nobody, homicidal liu + sully, tim wright, brian thomas, jay merrick, jessica locke, and alex kralie.
Tumblr media
SLENDERMAN doesn't have a lot of deal breakers, to be quite honest. it doesn't have any preferences when it comes to romance. i suppose if it had to pick something, it would say that it would rather avoid dating people with a disdain towards nature. it literally lives in nature, so... it would also probably avoid people who have children in their life, be it a parent or a teacher.
JEFF THE KILLER has a two off the top of his head. firstly, he will never date a Fangirl capital 'F'. if he even gets the slightest inkling that someone might be a fan of his, it's an immediate no and that person very well may lose their life. and secondly, he refuses to date anyone who hates his brother. yeah, he and liu don't get along and liu wants him dead but in his mind, liu is still the most important person in jeff's life. people who commit arson are on thin fucking ice.
EYELESS JACK is fairly lax when it comes to 'deal breakers'. he doesn't have anything he dislikes, and there isn't any type of behavior that he necessarily avoids either. people who aren't fond of cannibalism would be difficult to date, he supposes. he doesn't really like people who may try keeping his as a pet either. and... maybe people who are in cults...
LAUGHING JACK is one sick and twisted bastard so deal breakers are very unlikely. realistically, his partner being around kids should probably be a deal breaker but that's... literally the only way to meet him. he's incredibly complex so he really won't know his own deal breakers until he's like... in the situation, y'know?
JANE THE KILLER has one immediate deal breaker. if you like jeff the killer, she immediately feels immense disdain toward you and she will never even acknowledge your existence, not unless she's forced to. jane richardson is also lesbian, so men are an immediate no.
NINA THE KILLER has one immediate deal breaker as well. if you dislike jeff the killer, she will not get along with you. she and jeff have a love-hate relationship but at the end of the day, he's still her idol and she looks up to him a lot, so.
THE BLOODY PAINTER barely interacts with people to really know if he has any deal breakers. perhaps people who dislike art? though, he can't really fault someone for not seeing the beauty held within the multitudes of art all around the world.
CANDY POP isn't the biggest fan of people he deems to be annoying or boring. now, i know what you're thinking, candy pop literally finds joy in annoying people, so wouldn't he be delighted to have a partner who behaves the same way? absolutely not. he likes to be the one terrorizing people; he does not want to be terrorized.
THE DOLL MAKER is immediately hesitant around older men, so if you are a guy and you're older than him then just know he'll avoid you like the plague. also, due to his pyrophobia, arsonists and people fascinated by fire get an immediate no from him. anyone who may poke fun at the dolls he creates aren't welcome either, and he'll probably end up turning them into a doll.
JASON THE TOYMAKER has one goal only and it is to find 'the one for him' so like... not many deal breakers here. just fall in love with him and never ever reject him and everything will be good! you'll be turned into a wax doll, otherwise, and that's a terrible fate to suffer.
DR SMILEY also rarely interacts with people, though he's not the biggest fan of people who so desperately cling to life and believe that death is something to be afraid of.
NURSE ANN just doesn't like people in general and only has like... three people she enjoys being around so the likelihood of her growing to like someone is small. that being said, something that immediately makes her dislike a person is when they mock her for not speaking often.
THE PUPPETEER has major disdain for people he cannot control. unless he's already grown attached to (ex. emra) or reliant on them (ex. zachary), then disobedience is not something he can tolerate. he's also not the biggest fan of super-duper cheerful people, though that's only because it makes killing them harder.
CLOCKWORK by default cannot stand anyone who reminds her of her past. she wants nothing more than to forget the pain and hell she went through, so to find a person who reminds her of all that trauma? yeah, no, they gotta go.
ZALGO literally hates everything and everyone but on the very slight chance that someone manages to worm their way into the essence of his being, then so long as they don't mind humanity's downfall then they're fine. bonus points if they're good with kids because holy shit he doesn't know how to be a dad. and if they dislike kids then like... that's fine, i guess, but he'll be a bit bitter.
HOBO HEART is fairly hesitant when it comes to love. the one time he fell in love, she threw his heart away. he's hesitant to fall in love again, but he could never fall for anyone who would so willingly leave him behind. he's not the biggest fan of liars either. simply put, he could never love someone who doesn't value their own heart.
TICCI TOBY already keeps people at a distance, but it's an immediate deal breaker when someone starts making fun of him. if someone makes a bad comment about lyra or his mother, then that's also an immediate no. anyone who heavily drinks alcohol is a no. anyone who 'teases' him about his tourette's is a no. anyone who doesn't take his CIPA seriously is a no.
ZERO could never be in a relationship with someone with the mindset of 'i can fix her' because she doesn't need to be fixed. honestly, you should consider yourself lucky that she's somehow managed to grow an attachment to you considering her disregard for everyone around her. do something to make her hate you and you'll regret it.
KAGEKAO is gay, first and foremost, so if you're a woman then it just won't work out. he's fluent in english as well so you don't necessarily have to know japanese, though he'd love for you to learn. people who make comments about his wine habits or tell him to cut back on drinking wine will be disposed of immediately. he also isn't fond of boring people.
NATHAN THE NOBODY tends to believe that most people are in the organization that took away his sister, so by default, it's an immediate no if he comes to believe that someone is in the organization. he can't come to terms with his sister's death, so he'll get rid of anyone who tries to make him see that she's dead.
HOMICIDAL LIU hardly ever gives romance any thought because he's so caught up in his goal of trying to kill jeff that it rarely ever crosses his mind, so deal breakers aren't something he's given much thought. people who aren't fond of arson probably won't like liu, so they're a no. anyone who thinks he should forgive jeff is an immediate no. anyone who is a fangirl of jeff or idolizes him the way nina does is also an immediate no. people who aren't fond of smoking most certainly won't like him so they're also a no. anyone who sees no harm in mocking and bullying other people is a no.
SULLY has deal breakers relatively similar to liu. if you're a jeff groupie then he honestly wants nothing to do with you. if you are a threat to liu in any way shape or form, then he's already planning a way to dispose of you. other than that, he's pretty laid back with this sort of stuff.
TIM WRIGHT has a habit of smoking so people who can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke should probably avoid him. he isn't close to a lot of people so when someone betrays his trust, it really hits him hard so people with a habit of lying are an immediate no.
BRIAN THOMAS is a bros before hoes sorta guy in the sense that if his partner doesn't like his friends then suddenly he doesn't have a partner anymore. he can't date someone who dislikes the people he's closest to, it just doesn't work that way. especially if they dislike tim, like... that's his best friend there, dude.
JAY MERRICK is a gay man so if you are a woman, then... yeah. it won't work. you stand no chance with jay if you don't believe him when he tells you that something is seriously wrong. he doesn't like people who avoid telling him about an issue because it stresses him out a lot so he would rather prefer people who can openly tell him if something is wrong.
JESSICA LOCKE is lesbian, so men simply just do not have a chance with her. she doesn't really have many deal breakers though, to be honest. at least none that come to the top of her head. she'd probably have to experience something to decide whether or not that's a deal breaker for her, y'know?
ALEX KRALIE is like... deeply unhinged in every way possible and will try killing his partner no matter what, so. let's just use the alex before all the operator stuff happened! he can't be with anyone who doesn't support him or his passion project, marble hornets. and in the midst of marble hornets, he will try to kill his partner. there's no avoiding that. he, himself, is a deal breaker, gotta be honest here.

Inside me there are two wolves.
One who thinks that the writers are either stupid or cruel, and that the finale was so incomprehensibly bad that I shouldn't try to make sense of it. And that I should move on.
The other one is a subtext-and-metaphor-hungry beast that is manically obsessed with finding a reason, at least subtextually, for the incomprehensible mess they made out of these characters, especially Ted, in the finale.
Everyone is so right to point out that Ted in previous episodes would not have acted like this. I think the reason for the sudden regression in his character is Dottie.
That morning, full of smiles, in a good mood, Ted starts his walk to work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He cheerfully strolls through the streets, saying hello to his neighbors, making chit-chat with them. He is (as Trent said it in 1x03) out there in the community. He is, more importantly, part of a community. Until suddenly-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Mom?"
Dottie's arrival changes everything. Ted gets worse and worse throughout the episode. In the hotel room in Manchester, the football anthem "Blue Moon", with the haunting lyric "You saw me standing alone" plays over Ted's lonesome figure, in the shadows, depressed.
Juxtapose that with his first scene: the lively neighborhood and daylight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the episode, his conversation with his (manipulative) mom hits him deep. He feels immense guilt over not being there for Henry. And he's been torn over this for the entire season.
Tumblr media
His mom, and the way she acts, and the way she manipulates him, push him in the wrong direction: Kansas.
I think Ted has disassociated for most of the finale. But I also think that he is intentionally pushing people away. Maybe he thinks that this will make it easier for him to leave, maybe he thinks that this will make it easier for them to let him go. Maybe he just hates himself so much that he cannot accept their help. Maybe he feels guilty that they're showing him so much love, when he knows he will abandon them.
Either way, he quits. Something that he would not have done, even in season 1. So his regression goes farther than the first episode, deeper into his past. He goes from:
Tumblr media
to having doubts on the plane about leaving without winning the whole fucking thing
Tumblr media
but leaving anyway.
And this is one of the most curious things to me. Rebecca offers to bring Henry to him in England by helping relocate Michelle:
Tumblr media
And yet, he refuses. So, sure, this is about being there for his son. But given the choice between his son with his beloved community, and his son without his beloved community, he chooses the latter.
I've heard the argument that we don't know for sure that Ted doesn't have a support system in Kansas. But from a narrative perspective, it's important that we haven't been shown that hypothetical support system at all. And given that he actually returns to Kansas without the one person who we know supported him before coming to England, it comes across as a terribly isolating situation.
So why would Ted choose to part from his found family, even though bringing his son into that family would be an option? My theory is that he just really fucking hates himself. I think he wants to punish himself, maybe for being away from Henry for so long, maybe for something else. I don't think he believes that he deserves love or even credit for how he helped the club.
I mean, Rebecca and Trent offer him exactly that this episode: credit for what the did for the club.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And he rejects them both, choosing instead to remove himself from their lives, to erase himself from the narrative.
I think he's lower mentally than we've seen him for a while.
I think he's in his dark forest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the plane departs and then lands. And Ted is back in Kansas, driven through the prosaic, picket-fenced, isolating, depressing American suburbs to the house where Henry and the ex-wife who doesn't love him are waiting for him.
Tumblr media
And the light might be golden, and he might be reunited with his son. But as we close in on the last shot of the show, you can see his smile try to fight the sadness in his eyes and you know.
He's not happy.

Gale has me in a chokehold, I love his nerdy ass. If you're accepting requests, can I request some angst but then fluff with him? It may just be my own insecure self, but what if his fem Tav still felt insecure and not worthy of him after he spoke to Mystra? Like she tries to smile and nod, but she's actually worried he still has feelings for Mystra?
hiii! so i wanted to actually get to this part before writing for it so i could experience full context instead of just watching a yt vid (200 hrs in the game and i *just* got there... albeit it was with durge tav in an evil playthru (one of like 4 playthrus i've started cause i have no self control), but i got there nonetheless) so sorry for taking a while!! but here you go ^^
Word count: 2k
Tumblr media
"Back on mortal soil once more," he exhales, eyes slightly narrowed in a tense discomfort. He doesn't meet your eye, and his lips part in a doubtful smile, as if he isn't sure whether he's awake or experiencing some sort of dream. He blinks, and meets your gaze, his smile dimming – you’re not sure if it’s the result of a forced calmness, or a natural relaxation in his muscles. “I can’t believe I saw her– after all this time,” he nearly chuckles the statement out, and you suppress a cringe, desperately scanning his features for reassurance before you allow yourself to grow unreasonably anxious.
But he seems caught in a state of wonder, his eyes bearing an uncommon light in them – perhaps due to the astral scenery he just returned from, or, more likely, it could be an emotional occurrence. Either way, it stings, and you hate the way your stomach churns, hanging onto what feels like a thinning thread. He’s grown closer and closer to rejecting her, every new discovery being one more small, but necessary, push away from his faith, from any lingering feelings of affection for the goddess.
You couldn’t help but feel as though this was a setback. That, maybe, seeing her again, speaking with her again – maybe it reminded him of a time that you knew he missed. A time that, prior to your relationship with him and a few important facts he’d learned about her, he spoke so incredibly fondly of. He stays quiet, pondering the conversation, and you only feel your fearful anticipation growing more with his silence.
In an effort to break it, you muster up enough courage to speak. “A little intimidating,” you try to chuckle, but it only comes out as a painfully stressed hum, followed shortly by an intense urge to withdraw from the conversation, but you manage to override your anxiety’s desires.
Gale does manage to chuckle, again, nearly effortlessly – especially compared to your own failed attempt. “Powerful, wasn’t it? Magical, just– entirely magical,” he practically swoons, and you force a smile, tearing your gaze away from him. He continues speaking, and usually you’d be keen on listening to his every word, but you can’t help but tune him out. Even so, you can still hear the excitement in his tone, despite refusing to pick up on the words.
You’re not sure how long he continues for, though you know it ends, because you feel fingers on your chin, and he angles your head slightly back towards him, forcing your attention back to him. He’s wearing a frown now, and you blink, pulling your head away from his touch. “Sorry. Just – not feeling well.”
“Not feeling well? Damn it, I knew that meat platter was a foul idea. Tavern hardly held a shine, I’m hesitant to believe their appetizers were truly safe for consumption. We should return to camp.” He nods, lowering his hand and offering it to you, and although you feel bad for not disproving his assumptions, you take his hand and go along with the lie, walking back towards your camp.
It isn’t a very long walk, which is most fortunate; you’re hardly eager to strike up conversation, and had it been any longer of a journey, you’re sure that Gale would question your silence. Eventually, you return, and the area is empty, save for the usual occupants that never really left camp. Everyone else was out either exploring the city, settling down for food, finding entertainment, or bargaining with merchants to pawn off the unnecessary equipment they’d picked up.
Gale didn’t bother making a request or saying anything before immediately leading you to his tent, directing you to sit on one of the few cushions that littered the blue rug on the floor. You did as he asked, and he looked around the camp, focusing more on the area around Shadowheart’s tent, though his search for her was ultimately fruitless, so instead he knelt before you, the back of his hand pressing against your forehead. “Not particularly warm, certainly not alarmingly so – though I’m no medic, I do believe I’ve enough experience to deem you unafflicted by any fever. What are your symptoms?”
“Symptoms?” You repeat, and Gale squints, clicking his tongue.
“Mental fogginess,” he remarks, and you finally shake your head, looking off to the side.
“I’m not sick,” you confess, knowing that he’s bound to ask questions, but deciding you’d rather be honest than have him worry about your physical well-being.
“Now, there’s no reason to hide it. I’m sure that even a divine being would have gotten some strand of illness from that – what was it? A space hamster? And a mighty undercooked one, at that. I’m merely glad you’re still conscious,” he teases, leaning forward and holding your chin, giving you a quick kiss on the forehead.
You pull back, shaking your head once more. “I’m serious. I’m not sick. I just – I don’t know,” you sigh, scooting back and frowning. “It’s a lot to take in, isn’t it? All that stuff with Mystra?”
Gale eases back, reading your expression a second time to ensure you weren’t trying to deceive him. Once he’s sure, he lowers himself fully to his knees, and then grabs another cushion for himself to sit on. He thinks over your words, and ultimately nods. “Indeed. Rather unsettling. To now know that the weave I’ve had inside of me for so long is nothing more – and always has been nothing more – than a mystery to me, it’s… unsettling,” he repeats, bending a knee and placing his elbow on it, his thumb running over the hairs on his jaw.
“She’s been lying to you,” you murmur, and Gale eyes you, his expression that of some internal conflict. A conflict you fear you may be losing, even if he’d never admit it to you.
“As sadistic as it may appear, she had her reasons. Reasons we may never grasp or understand, but reasons, I’m sure. It’s no matter. Granting my disease a name does little to change said disease – or the expectations that come along with it. If I please her, if I fulfill her request of me, I will be rid of it. Free. At last. Though her actions may seem tyrannical to most, you must understand that it is quite a generous offer she is granting me,” he explains, his head tilting as he watches your reaction, though you’re putting too much effort into disguising your true concerns for him to pick up on them.
“Are you going to give it to her?” You ask, silently pleading for a denial -- for a firm and unwavering ‘No.’
“Of course. I have to,” he chuckles nervously, and whatever hope may have been contained in your expression quickly fades, and you have to break eye contact with him. “My love, this may be my only means of safety. Of securing a future. Should I refuse her, my very life would be on the line. And the miracles that have kept this orb from rupturing thus far – Mystra’s miracles, might I add – I would be left completely without.” He reaches forward, taking a hold of your hands, and you begrudgingly look back at him. “How could I possibly deny the chance at a future with you? I would be a madman.”
His words ease you, even if the effect is incredibly slight. You squeeze his hands, and he squeezes back, his small smile brimming with hope. It’s a pleasant emotion to see him with – one that you haven’t truly seen before. The closest has been eagerness, such as the kind he displayed when you learned of, and eventually obtained, the very book that caused this meeting with his goddess. “What if she forgives you?” You whisper, your insecurity underlining every syllable, and if you weren’t so afraid, your shame would have surely manifested in the color on your cheeks.
Gale pauses, his eyebrows pushing inward as he processes your words a few times over. “If she forgives me?”
“If she calls on you to be her chosen. If you give her the crown, and she excuses your disputes. I want a future with you too, I do. I just… fear a future haunted by her. I want you, exactly as you are.” You inhale, and it’s shaky, but it’s too late to turn back now. “If she forgives you, will you be at her beck and call?”
He smiles again, but it’s nearly a smile of pity. A smile that instills you with a pinch in your throat, daring you to cry. One of his hands slips out of yours, and for a moment, you believe that this is it – that he’ll confess his plans to return to her side, to embrace his faith once more, to leave you behind at the assurance of greener, holier, pastures. But instead, his hand tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, and then holds the right side of your face, his hold warm and comforting. “Once I am cured, once all of this is over – the only person I wish to be ‘chosen’ by is you. I confess that, had I not met you, the outcome may be different.”
Despite the small, mildly reassured smile on your face, and your leaning into his palm, you still contain some worry for the future. And so, against the understanding that you should know better than to wonder, you ask “Different how?”
He sighs, squeezing your hand again. “Before the tadpoles, before you, before any of this – I had always believed that I’d never be free of her influence. She occupied my mind much like our little larva pilots do now. To control the weave – to channel and embrace the weave is to embrace Mystra. Pieces of her, at least. Though it’s hard to feel a piece of her and not reflect on a time when I could feel all of her. Had I any choice in the matter, I would remove her completely from my life. But I am no man without my past, and even less of one without the magic that I have been so consistently entwined with. And yet, it’s with you that I feel unburdened by her expectations, by her authority and judgment.” Gale leans forward, and you do too, your forehead against his. His eyes close, and yours do as well, merely enjoying the closeness, and the gentleness in his tone, the comfort that his words bring. “With you I forget my goddess. I forget my past, I forget my flaws, I forget my mistakes. I have a purpose now. One beyond being a vessel. One beyond being a subservient lapdog for the will of a deity.”
When you open your eyes, you find Gale’s open as well, and he watches your lips, debating something. You grant him a moment to think, and he decides to act, pulling you a little closer for a chaste kiss, allowing it to linger before he pulls back once more, the curl of his lips more assured now.
“I would suffer at the hands of her fate a thousand times over if it meant finding you again in just one life. You, dearest, are the one who my heart worships. Even if I speak the tongue of the weave or spin her spells, I know what love truly is – unparalleled, earnest, generous love – because of you, and only you. Should Mystra find herself munificent enough to shell out a fragment of forgiveness for me, she will, quite quickly, understand I have no interest in being her compliant plaything anew. If Elminster is a case that instills any flavor of wariness, I do believe I’d be better off without such an expansive lifespan, and… intense enthrallment in cheese,” he chuckles, pulling a laugh from you as well. When that laugh trails off, he cuts it short with a kiss, this one lasting a little longer than the one prior.
“Just us two, then? After all of this?” You ask when the kiss is broken, and he smirks, shrugging.
“Us two and my Tressym, of course. I promise that she’s much better company than a goddess.”
“Of course. I can certainly live with that."

Weird idea but hear me out :
Something that always kind of "scratched" my brain was that the three have animal names, while Hollyleaf has a plant name, so I guess her name was foreshadowing the fact that she wasn't part of the Three.
However Hollyleaf is seen having connexions with ghosts (such as Fallen Leaves)
We know that the Dark Forest and the Starclan cats can interact with living cats (like literally fighting, talking to them, and in certain conditions, gift them powers). We also know that there is a place where non-believing cats go to (as Ravenpaw declined his place to Starclan to go wherever Barley goes to after his death), which I will call the Nowhere for simplicity
So what if Hollyleaf was gifted powers by the cats from the Nowhere ? Not random kittypets, but Clan cats / loners who literally stopped believing in Starclan because they perceived Starclan as a destructive and dangerous entity. Clan cats who rejected Starclan because it was manipulating living cats and making their life a living hell for seemingly no purpose (Squirrelflight, Leafpool for example, or Jayfeather, Goosefeather). Starclan refused to accept these cats after their deaths because, while they were good cats, they refused to follow Starclan's instructions, and therefore ended up in the Nowhere. In this AU, Fallen Leaves is part of the Nowhere and even when he espaces the tunnels, he refuses to join Starclan as he feels furious that Starclan left him for 100 years lost alone in the tunnels.
After the Three drowned Ashfur together (a great teamwork right there), Hollyleaf feels incredibly guilty. She was always obsessed with following the Warrior Code, and breaking it by killing a cat - Her own clanmate - made her feel horrible. She ends up telling everyone the Truth at the gathering just like in canon, but takes all the responsability of Ashfur's murder, making her brothers seem innocent. She doesn't try to kill Leafpool as she has grown way too attached to her aunt - now mother - and instead she asks for the full story. Leafpool explains everything, including how Starclan manipulated her and Squirrelflight. Hollyleaf is horrified at everything she learns and feels she doesn't belong. She immediately rushes to the tunnels, where she gets trapped.
She spends a long time reflecting, and feels betrayed by Starclan. She expected to have powers like her brothers, and for no reason at all, she gets none. Why wasn't she gifted anything ? Why would Starclan even gift kits born from a forbidden love ? Why did Starclan lie to Squirrelflight so that she would for sure adopt Leafpool's kits ?Did Starclan trap Leafpool and Squirrelflight on purpose, for their own entertainment ?
In the tunnels, she meets Fallen Leaves, and through him, is able to enter in contact with the Nowhere, and all the Clan cats who felt betrayed and used by Starclan.
This is just a small idea for now but I really like this concept :) and also I hate Starclan grrr
I call this AU Hollyleaf from the Nowhere for now !
This AU is connected with the Lionblaze is Scourge AU for now too !
IMPORTANT THING : The cats on the top of the picture are ghosts, not Starclan cats ! Starclan cats have stars on their pelt, while ghosts and wandering spirits just have a white outline in my depictions !

We'll be fine
Aemond Targaryen x Reader (Daughter of Rhaenyra)
Disclaimer: English is not my first language so I apologize for any mistakes.
TW: Inc*st, Angst
part 2 part3
Summary: Greens win AU. Rhaenyra Targaryen is dead, the war seems to be over but that doesn't mean there is peace. Your relationship with Aemond is strained after he killed your brother and he will leave you for Alys Rivers.
Tumblr media
Frustration. That was what Aemond felt. Pure frustration. All he wanted was to be with you, to have you in his arms again but you refused to sleep in the same room as him. This morning you hardly looked at him when he went to your room to see the children.
Aemond hated himself for allowing himself to be bewitched by that witch. Worst of all, you didn't seem to believe him. You thought he cheated on you because he wanted to because he didn't love you. It hurt him that you doubted his love for you and their children. But how could I blame you? He had abandoned you in the middle of the war, you gave birth alone and raised the children alone. Oh, the boys, Baelon and Aemon, didn't seem happy with him either. When he picked them up, they were both hysterical. He shouldn't have expected another reaction from them, after all, he was a stranger to his children.
Three knocks on the door brought the prince out of his thoughts.
"Go ahead," he said imagining that it should be his mother or his servant. He didn't even bother to take his eyes off the flames in the fireplace.
"My prince." Aemond stood up the instant he heard your voice. Was it for some miraculous reason that you decided to believe him and had come to stay with him? He started to walk towards you, ready to kiss you "It's the children's bedtime"
Aemond tried hard not to show his disappointment at your words.
"I usually read to them before they go to sleep" you kept talking feeling nervous at the silence "then I was thinking that you could join us, you know that the boys start to get used to you and, I don't know, maybe start to form a bond with you ” you began to turn your ring, the ring that aemond gave you when you two got married “Only if you want”
You were more than angry with your husband but you did not intend to ruin the relationship between your children and him. If Aemond was willing to want to form a bond with them you weren't going to deny him, you were willing to help him. Your children deserve to grow up with a father.
"I would be delighted" replied the prince "Thank you" he took your hand and kissed it. You couldn't help but tense up when you thought that those same lips that just kissed your hand had kissed Alys Rivers, surely they had done more than kiss the witch, she ended up pregnant for a reason. With that image in your head, you jerked your hand away and left his room.
Aemond stood in the room for a moment, hurt by your rejection, before he went after you.
••••
Aemond liked reading to children. He knew that the babies didn't understand the story he was telling but they were still happy every time he changed his voice to a more exaggeratedly thick one. He even managed to make them laugh and he was sure you wanted to laugh too but hid it with a fake cough.
The boys were already asleep so he should go now but Aemond didn't want to. You didn't seem to want him to go either because you hadn't kicked him out yet. The two were sitting quietly. You watched sweetly as your husband brushed Baelon's hair back from his face. How you would have liked that Aemond had been present from day one, that he had been with you those dark nights when you didn't feel like a good mother for not being able to make the twins stop crying, that he had calmed your fears… But he was too busy fighting the war and sleeping with Alys Rivers.
"I'm sorry" your husband broke the silence.
"For what exactly? For killing my brother? For killing my grandmother? For getting another woman pregnant while I was taking care of our children?"
Every word you said felt like a slap in the face to Aemond. Your voice was pure cold fury but your eyes had so much pain and he hated being the cause of your pain. But still, he couldn't help but get mad at you for bringing up Lucerys's death again. You were the first person he saw when he came back from Storm's End, he told you the whole truth, Vhagar had not obeyed him, and the two of them wept that night in each other's arms because he knew the war was coming.
"You know that Lucerys was not my intention. And I told you that damn witch put a spell on me"
"Excuses. You're just giving me excuses" you replied, trying to ignore the lump in your throat, and stood up to walk away from him. Aemond was not long in following you. I wasn't going to let you walk away from him.
“Why don't you believe me?” he said with clear frustration as he grabbed your arm and turned you around. Now his bodies were glued together. If Aemond bowed his head he might even kiss you. A part of you wanted me to and you hated yourself for it. You hated yourself for still loving him, you should want your husband to be rotting in hell after all the suffering he caused your family. You should be trying to get revenge on your brothers, your grandmother, and your mother but instead you were quietly playing house while the greens rejoiced in their victory.
"Why should I do it? I trusted you, I trusted you with my heart, and look how it ended ”you averted your eyes from her face, ashamed of yourself to see how your vision was clouded by tears. You cursed yourself for being so weak.
Aemond lifted your chin for you to look at him again “I love you” you started to shake your head “Yes I do. I love you ”I affirm again“ I promise you that I will spend the rest of my days trying to repay you for all the pain I cause you,” he said as he gently wiped the tears from your face.
"I don't think that one day I can forgive you," you said with a broken voice "But I still love you" you confessed making the prince smile.
Aemond felt a weight lift from his shoulders at those words. He was so afraid that you had stopped loving him. Your confession gave him hope for the future. The pain of the war was very recent but over time you two could come to an agreement. He could never bring your brothers back to you but he could give you more children, and create new memories. He could make you happy.
"We'll be fine" he promised and left a kiss on your forehead. He was dying to kiss you but he knew it wasn't time yet. But it didn't matter, you two had time and besides, he already felt satisfied knowing that you still loved him "I love you" he repeated and rested his forehead against yours.
"We'll be fine," you repeated.
Too bad your tranquility wouldn't last long because of Aegon.

Hi, may I request a headcanons of The Brotherhood(Quicksilver, Blob and Toad) whose crush is gn reader? How would they act?
The Brotherhood (X-Men: Evolution) X gender neutral crush
Tumblr media
Note(s) : Sorry it took so long, I was struggling to figure out how to write for them (*・~・*) I think I got it right though?
Tumblr media
Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver
Tumblr media
'Hey! Over here, nooo, not there, silly! Here!'
Oh he's so annoying (affectionate)
Pietro's main goal is to make you think about him wherever you are, that means bugging you constantly.
Assuming you're in the same school, he's constantly switching out your homework with blank pieces of paper, drawing messages in your books, speeding over to poke you in class knowing you can't do anything about it, etc.
It only gets worse if you're an X-Man.
During missions if you're against each other he's constantly going after you, it's gotten him in trouble with Mystique more times than he can count because he refuses to acknowledge the main purpose of the mission, instead, he only wants to annoy you.
Sometimes it's just pushing you over then zooming away, other times he constantly taunts you while running so fast you can't catch him or tell where he's going next, whatever it is, he makes sure it's enough of a bother that you start to get frustrated.
If you're in the brotherhood he can at least get missions done but you know he's bothering you the entire time, you basically end up doing all the work.
Is he flirty? Absolutely.
Expect his arm around your shoulders or waist while he talks on and on so fast you can't even catch what he's saying, but when he does slow down he's all 'You're the only one for me.' 'I love your shirt, is it new?' 'Your eyes are so beautiful, I could stare at them for hours.'
Lance and Todd are throwing up in the background.
Wanda wants to punch her brother into a separate dimension.
Fred's just chilling.
Think of him like Lance with Kitty but more focused on teasing you rather than being completely smitten, don't get him wrong, he loves you and he'd probably even make you a sandwich if you asked, but he'll be an asshole about it.
'Oh, come on, that's so much effort! Can't you just do it yourself?' but before you can answer he zooms off to do what you asked of him. 'here, I guess.' he huffs, a grin on his face as he hands you the item you requested.
Frederick J. Dukes / The Blob
Tumblr media
'Do I have to stay with them..?'
Fred is under the assumption that it's impossible for you to like him back after what happened with Jean, of course he was pushy and unfair with her, but she also rejected him and all of the X-Men despise him. So, he doesn't exactly have many options when it comes to friendship, let alone dating, besides the Brotherhood.
Then comes you.
Whether you're an X-Man, member of the Brotherhood, Morlock, perhaps just a fellow mutant, or a human, student at school, he'll truly never believe that he has a chance.
While before he was fairly obsessive and pushy with his crushes, with you he's silent and very awkward, even if you're nice to him he expects backlash if he ever confesses.
If you're a member of the brotherhood his awkwardness is slightly less explainable and far more noticeable, you're his teammate, you spend almost all day together, yet he can hardly look at you and loudly complains when he's paired with you or left alone with you. It probably makes you feel like he hates you.
He's very embarrassed if you confront him about it.
Awkward, he stumbles over his words and is breathing a little heavy as he does so, trying his best to explain that he doesn't hate you, he's just. Well. You see.
It's a similar situation if you attend his school, human or mutant, he's very sweet to you and tends to avoid messing with you. Fred usually quiets down when you get near, almost shutting down in a way. The others tease him for it all the time.
He'll most likely try to avoid you, maybe Lance, Pietro and Todd will push him to interact with you just to 'stop him from bugging them about it', they totally just want to help him out, and it ends with him always running away in embarrassment or assuming, if you're quiet or not that reactive, that you hate him.
If you're paired in a school project, Fred will absolutely just skip school, he doesn't care, he skips class regularly anyway, no Pietro, it's not to avoid you, he's just too cool for class.
If you're an X-Man, it's very different.
Fred is under the assumption you both share a mutual hate for each other, you're enemies after all! The tightness in his chest that he's feeling is totally just violent urges, that's it, that's all, it's not the want to hold your hand, hold you, tell jokes and make you laugh, no, no, that's not it at all!
He tends to target you to try and avoid his feelings quicker, he hates hurting you, but throwing you away from him, physically, makes sure he won't get distracted by you.
Fred ends up crying in his room when he goes home because he's afraid he hurt you.
Heck, even the other members of the brotherhood just want him to get with you already. Lance is especially eager because he won't be the only one being made fun of for dating an X-Man.
Eventually it does spill somehow and I'd imagine he would try to run away from you, maybe you catch up or explain to him later on, whichever one, he'll get very happy when you confirm you share feelings for him. He practically fixates on you so hard that you're the only thing he talks about.
Todd Tolansky / Toad
Tumblr media
'Hey, how it's goin', beautiful?'
He proceeds to fall down on his face.
Todd is a bit of a creep, constantly following you around and showing off his nonexistent muscles, telling the most unfunny jokes and pulling pranks on people in an attempt to impress you.
He doesn't smell nice, he's been told this his entire life, that he's slimy, disgusting, every insulting name under the sun. As such, he decides to at least try and take a shower more often for you, to make you less likely to avoid him, of course!
Todd has a big grin on his face every time he talks to you, bouncing off his feet like he's just won the lottery. He's also very, very flirty, just not that good at flirting.
His pick up lines are very 'the immediate Google search results for pick up lines.' type of cheesy, very stereotypical and eye rolling.
If you're an X-Man, member of the Brotherhood, human, mutant, etc, it doesn't matter much to him, he treats you the exact same. The only real difference is how much time he spends around you.
In the brotherhood he does try to avoid flirting in front of the guys to avoid embarrassment or teasing, but surprisingly he does ask for a lot of advice regularly. It usually never goes well, Lance and Pietro tend to just give very wrong or confusing tips and Fred doesn't really have any to give in the first place.
If you're an X-Man he tries to impress you by fighting your teammates, usually he loses, but sometimes he does win! He'll pose and ask if he's just the coolest guy or what. Todd doesn't like fighting you but he will, because unfortunately Mystique is absolutely terrifying and he doesn't want to face her wrath.
In school he likes to ask for your help, constantly bugging you about how he just desperately needs your assistance to study for this test coming up, which to be fair he does. But, if you agree to help him, he doesn't actually try. He just flirts with you the entire time.
His crush is obvious, incredibly so, even the most clueless of individuals would know he loves you because he says it directly every single day. He doesn't exactly need to 'confess' per say, all you really need to do is accept his flirting or flirt back, maybe ask him out yourself.

you both would wrestle for dominance, but it wouldn't take long for ellie to overpower you, ending with you beneath her and your arms pinned above your head, completely helpless.
ellie would take her sweet time teasing you, enjoying the sight of you slowly falling apart because of her. she maintains a smug look across her face the entire time, content with her own power.
she would absolutely make you beg for everything. she refused to touch you until you were practically crying for her to touch you, leaving you feeling humiliated and ashamed.
when she finally decides to touch you, she shows no mercy. she immediately goes in with three fingers, smirking at how easily they slide in. "pathetic." "i hate you," "i find that hard to believe considering how fucking wet you are."
she would muffle your cries and moans with her hand while demanding you to "shut the fuck up and take it like the slut you are"
she'd leave bites and hickeys everywhere and anywhere. "you look pretty with my marks all over you."
you would be too embarrassed to look her in the face. she doesn't put up with it. "look at me while i fuck you." she demands, manhandling your jaw and forcing you to face her. her eyes were dark, a mixture of both lust and rage behind them. you couldn't help but feel intimidated by them, but she wouldn't let you look away and would lightly pinch you every time your gaze would avert.
anytime you'd make some bratty remark she'd immediately come to a halt and smack you, refusing to continue until you're begging her to fuck you again.
"watch your fucking mouth"
she'd completely destroy you with her strap-on. "you're all mine." she says, with her silicone cock pumping in and out of you. "you wish." she doesn't take too kindly to your rejection. the pace in her thrusts increase, pulling out entirely just to slam her cock back into you. her palms are pressed against your throat, using your neck to support herself up. her demeanor going from irate to satisfied when she noticed the way your jaw slacked open and your eyes rolled to the back of your head, tears falling from the corner of your eyes as you laid beneath her completely powerless.
you'd attempt to spit insults at her, but they'd just come out as slurred, incoherent whimpers.
"what was that? i can't understand you when you're crying."
ellie notices how close you are to cumming, and stops, teasing at your entrance just enough to earn a sob from you. "you wanna cum? you gotta earn it." "please don't do this ellie." "beg me." "ellie, please." "you call that begging?" she scoffs, grazing your clit with her tip, earning a jolt from you. "please let me cum, i'm begging you," "huh?" "fuck, ellie- please let me cum, i'm begging you just please fuck me." you can't help but sob. "atta girl."
she turns you over and continues to fuck you from the back, pulling a fistful of your hair and jerking your head back, refusing to release the grip she has on you while she pounds into you.
it doesn't take long for you to reach your climax, releasing your liquids all over her. it doesn't stop her though, she continues to assault your pussy, her pace stays the same. "ellie, i came already," you say breathlessly, barely able to hold yourself up anymore. "i don't care."
she makes you cum again, and again, and again, your legs are trembling, your face is buried in the sheets. you physically cannot hold yourself up anymore. "ellie... please," you cry, a stream of tears falling from your eyes.
she finally pulls out and stops. a sigh of relief escapes your lips. she flips you over, a smug look on her face. "did you really think i was done?"
she makes her way in-between your legs, her tongue immediately finds your clit. your hips buckle at the slightest touch. you desperately try to pull away from her, but she wraps her arms around your thighs and continues to stimulate your bundle of nerves.
"if you only you were as sweet as you taste."
you were too fatigued and dizzy to fight back, you grabbed a fistful of the sheets and practically screamed as she continued to force orgasms out of you.
"e-ellie i can't" you whine. "one more," she pleads before pressing small shapes into your clit with her tongue.
she earns one more orgasm from you, feeling accomplished but also remorseful seeing how fucked out and exhausted you are after making you suffer through so many of them, showing her compassion in aftercare.
she meets her face with yours and softly but passionately places her lips on yours, encouraging you taste all the leftover juices you left on her mouth before dissapearing to grab you a towel and help clean up your mess.
she would spoon you from behind and leave gentle kisses on your neck while you recover. her spiteful behavior from before, completely withdrawn.
you were confused by the amount of affection she was giving you, but you were too tired to resist. in fact, you found yourself melting into her touch, and ultimately falling asleep in her arms.

Something I love about Tomura is how defiant he has always been. From day one, that was not a kid made to obey society norms, that was not a child the hero society could have tamed, that is not the type of personality that would have easily bent.
He was 5 years old and running from home 'cause he wanted to be a hero and he'd be a hero against his parents wishes, if necessary. He was asking his mother directly "why does my dad hate me?" and if it isn't why I love kids, when they cut straight to the bone, when they ask what adults wouldn't ask because they'd rather dance around it than admit the big problem. Tenko was 5 years old, the type of child would get rejected all the time but still he wouldn't give up on his desire to make friends, the type of kid that wouldn't cave in to the pressure of his peers. He had a rebellious sister, as rebellious as him, who would lie to her father saying that she wanted to be a housewife to make him happy and then go sneak on his office to find his secrets, the grandmother he never talks about, and she'd go fetch her little sibling to inspire him, to tell Tenko she was there with him, they could do it together, become heroes, escape that house, their dad.
And when things go to hell, when AFO finds him, when Tenko gets groomed and manipulated and lost his family, his memories, his identity and he's replaced by a version AFO created, Tomura does not give up control, not fully. A problem child, you would called it.
Tomura then decides to kill whoever hurts him. He is mentally unstable, doesn't know who he is even, he is dealing with enough trauma to nuke a town and that without counting that Tomura's primary caretakers are A) the greatest abuser and villain the bnha world has ever faced, B) a mad scientist that wants to turn Tomura into a zombie, C) the most functional zombie the mad scientist could create. He is isolated, brainwashed, tortured with the hands of his dead family all over his body to remind him of his pain and made him unable to escape his agony and mourning... The whole pack and yet Tomura rebelled.
A part of him, pieces of Tenko that keep leaking to his new identity, made Tomura different from the idea AFO had for him. Tomura rebelled against the heroes, against the system, against society itself, against the future and past and present of those beliefs. Tomura rebelled against other villains and refused to bow down to them. He criticized them openly and when he made his own group, Tomura acted totally different from the rest of villains. He was not just ordering around or ignoring them or faking affection to manipulate them. He never lied to them, told them more than what they wanted to hear at times, gave them free reign to act and trusted their judgement, never punished them for the decisions they took, Tomura respected them all, treated them like equals, listened to what they had to say, adapted to their desires, protected them and avenged them and fought for them and inspired them.
And when AFO possessed them, he fought AFO too. 15 years of abuse and emotional manipulation and grooming and brainwashing and none of that could stop Tenko's heart for its rebellious nature. When Mirio suggested he was sad 'cause he had no friends, Tomura corrected him passionately. He had friends. When the pro-heroes suggested he was naive, he tried to explain it again. To every person doubting his resolve and his purpose, he answered the same. Through the whole manga, he keeps fighting against people invalidating him, refusing to listen, refusing to accept, refussing to become what they want him to be.
That's the deepest parallel with Izuku, the kid who went against All Might himself when the hero told him he could not be like the rest. The concept of both Deku and Tomura determined to prove the people who doubt them wrong, the fact that they keep pushing against all odds, their resilience and determination and how they believe in themselves even if no one else, not even their parents, do it.
I really, really, reeeaaally wish Tenko would get his happy ending after all of these. To be so persistent you survive the worst anyone can suffer and come out on the other side still wanting to be a hero, it is something that I'll never get tired of watching.

1. Jaehaera was not raped...
2. Rhaenyra was having a breakdown on Dragonstone after learning about Luke's death when she received Daemon's letter stating that he would avenge Luke (the letter doesn't even explain how he would avenge Luke). How is that her fault?
3. Aegon is also a rapist in the books, it's not an invention by the writers.
"Who are you?" [Helaena] demanded of the two. "Debt collectors," said Cheese. "An eye for an eye, a son for a son. We only want the one, t' square things. Won't hurt the rest o' you fine folks, not one lil' hair. Which one to you want t' lose Your Grace?" Cheese warned the queen to make a choice soon, before Blood grew bored and raped her little girl. Strange to say, the ratcatcher and the butcher were true to their word. They did no further harm to Queen Helaena and her surviving children. (Fire and Blood: The Dying of the Dragons - A Son for a Son)
You're right anon, Jaehaera was never raped, it was only threatened to hurry Helaena along. I don't understand why TG stans want to add to this event so badly, it's already horrific. It's actions like that which show how GRRM is once again choosing to have morally gray protagonists. TB is in the right about the Dance and who they're supporting, but that doesn't mean their heroes or even morally good in their actions.
It's interesting how op decided to complain that Aegon might be portrayed as incompetent. Aegon was incompetent in the book, so incompetent he was murdered by his own supporters. He's remembered as being one of the most useless kings of Westeros. Saying they're going to dumb him down to make Rhaenyra look better shows how op has never read the book, or even Aegon's wiki lmao.
Further proving my point is the stupidly blind argument of how Aegon "isn't a rapist in the book". The delusion of the TG stans is neverending.
I think the most incredible take in this post is how apparently, in the eyes of op, Criston isn't an incel in season one?? Did we watch the same show? Criston makes the immediate turn to hating Rhaenyra and literally killing people associated with her family after she rejects him. He makes hating her his entire personality for the whole ass show once she refuses to run away with him. He thinks he's entitled to Rhaenyra's entire life and body just because she slept with him once. He's the definition of an incel, go cry about it greenies.
B&C was done without Rhaenyra's knowledge or approval, as you said. Daemon acted on his own (he is a true gray character). She was separated from Daemon when he made his choice, so she had even less control over what he did. Added to that is how Rhaenyra was busy with other fronts of the war and negotiating, how can she be expected to micromanage her husband?
Now, while the original post was written I think before Condal started teasing the whole "people will want to switch sides", the reblog definitely wasn't. Condal has revealed that he plans to make the audience sympathize with the greens more this season. Which is why it makes no sense why the poster who reblogged believes they will make the greens appear worse. They're already making excuses for Aegon raping serving girls, trying to make Alicent be completely innocent of her team's actions, and making Aemond "accidentally" kill Luke.
The show is already so obviously TG, they even aged up Rhaenyra and aged down Alicent to control who the audience sympathizes with. TG stans are just bitter that even the intense white washing can't cover up how in the wrong TG is.
Alicent is totally at least partially to blame for B&C. In the book, she was the head of the green faction and constantly plotted to usurp Rhaenyra, thus causing the war. In both the show and the book, Alicent raised her children to view their nephews as subhuman. She instilled the hatred of them into Aemond long before the Driftmark incident. She's the one who constantly affirmed to them that Aegon is the rightful heir and Rhaenyra is a murderous whore. Alicent bears the blame for what happened to her family just as much as Aegon, Otto, and Aemond.

i feel like at this point, catra stans are deliberately misunderstanding our point. they keep saying that we just hate seeing abuse victims getting a happy ending and that we can't fathom the idea of a bad person changing for the better, when most antis i've seen has said multiple times that they just wanted a better redemption arc for catra.
liking or sympathizing with someone doesn't mean that you have to excuse all of their actions and let them get away with anything. you can like catra and still hold her accountable for her actions but it seems like catra simps refuse to understand this, and instead act like we're villains who just want catra to suffer and die.
Yeah, I for one relate to Catra and I was very disappointed with her redemption. It was cheap and was resumed to "forgiveness". First, no one should be forced to forgive someone that hurt them; it's their choice alone. Second, if they choose to forgive, they don't have to be in that person's life. It's a lot more complex than just saying "I'm sowwy :(" "I forgive you :) now we're buddies!". Forgiveness can be really hard.
Catra's apologies are INCREDIBLY vague, like, come on. She only says "I'm sorry for everything" to Adora - and Catra still treats Adora like shit. I don't remember exactly her apology to Entrapta but I know it was brief and didn't detail anything (Entrapta mentioned the events of s3 but she didn't seem hurt about being sent to Beast Island or like. Catra manipulating Entrapta into believing she was abandoned). Scorpia, then? Catra didn't even say the word "sorry". Scorpia just instantly forgave her despite the fact she wasn't even there for Catra's "progress". She was chipped the whole time. Same for Micah and Mermista.
The show refused any accountability, which should be essential to a redemption arc. Not to beat a dead horse, but there's a reason why Zuko's arc is so remarkable. We joke about the "fieldtrips", but Zuko helps each person individually, first Aang, then Sokka, and finally Katara, the person he most personally betrayed. When Zuko first tries to join the Gaang, they reject him. They don't trust him. And they're right for it! So Zuko proves that he's better over and over again, until he gains their trust in a natural way. While Iroh isn't there to see all of it, he can tell by Zuko's mere return to his uncle and his remorse alone that his nephew found his path again. Also note that Zuko doesn't make excuses, he just straight up says, "I'm so sorry and ashamed for what I did", and implies he would do anything to gain Iroh's trust again. Similarly to how he approached Katara in The Southern Raiders.
SPOP, however, only tells us Catra is "working" to be better. When she really doesn't. Too bad most of the fandom eats all that up without giving a second thought. Then they accuse us of hating abuse victims or mentally ill people, when I'm pretty sure a lot of us are both of those things.

I really would like to know if its just me or do you think Shouto had the same 'connecting' and 'hand-reaching' moment with Touya as Deku with Tenko and Ochaka with Toga? Especially when comparing the child images I personally feel a big difference. Within the one where Shouto and Touya are back to back he looks simply vicious (not that Touya looks any less angry) but also within the both boys crying panel Shouto is fighting and not reaching towards Touya in any way. This is also the case for Shoutos word towards Touya - he not once said, that he cares about him or wants to know him. You also point out, that Shouto saved Touya, but I actually feel more like he wanted to save everyone else. This is not meant as hate or anything, but for me it feels so devastating that between the villian-hero trios (even if Deku and Tenko are still to come) Shouto doesnt seems to reach out for Touya and I wanted to hear another perspective.
Despite the many common points, their situation is not at all the same. Toga was seeking acceptance pretty much from anyone, while Touya wanted validation ONLY from Endeavor. Toga wanted to live with the things and people she loved, Touya wanted to die with the object of his hatred taking others with him. Toga wanted Ochako or Deku to accept her since forever, but Touya had no personal interest in Shouto other than using him as a tool to hurt Endeavor or prove his superiority. Touya is clearly suicidal from the start - and Shouto's biggest challenge is to keep him alive despite his best efforts to burn himself to death.
Shouto never had the means to give Touya what he wanted - and let's not forget that he's been advocating since the PLF war for Endeavor and him go together to find Touya only to be let down by his father every single time. Plus Shouto believes his existence was the breaking point for the family (it's a belief nobody dispelled yet).
But still, Shouto showed up for Touya personally only to be told immediately that he's not what Touya wants:
Tumblr media
And yet Shouto is saying that he can't be a hero if he just ignores Touya's pain (like Endeavor did). Shouto rather not be a hero, if he cannot help his brother. He's the ONLY person in the family who properly faces Touya (even if he's the one Touya doesn't want at all). He listens to Touya's story and he didn't attack him the whole time. It's Touya who escalates the fight deciding to kill Shouto and take him as a trophy to Endeavor.
Now, you also need to remember that the villains' love languages are different. Toga's emotions are expressed in blood. Touya's "love language" is his quirk. It's his bonding experience with Endeavor,
Tumblr media
and he rejects any other quirk or move anyone else wants to teach him.
Tumblr media
In the Todoroki family, quirk and who you are as a person and what is your worth is completely intertwined. Endeavor's flashfire connects Touya and Shouto even more profoundly than blood does, as out of the four siblings only the two of them share this.
Tumblr media
so Shouto reaching out comes also essentially in a language unique to them - he makes an ultimate move just for Touya.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a move specifically made to stop him without hurting him. It's coming from Shouto's literal heart, from his healing, from him asserting who he wants to be as a brother and as a hero. It's also proof that there is a different way than the path that Endeavor has set them on. Instead of raising the fire and destruction with it, Shouto's quirk can be used to nope out from the toxic competition and save the family.
Touya's reply is rejecting Shouto - saying that they are not at all similar and that they cannot "mingle" - which Shouto counters with mingling with Touya anyways, refusing to accept their "separateness" - that leads to his power-up and copying of that very same move - the first proof that despite what Touya says, they are not completely different.
Tumblr media
Shouto also tries to call Touya back when he tries to leave - this is a parallel moment when Ochako shouts at Toga how they haven't talked about love yet.
Tumblr media
But Touya leaves, because Shouto despite pouring his heart out in his phosphor move, calling him Touya-nii, facing him properly - he cannot give to Touya what he ultimately wants: Endeavor's attention, approval and love (along with the attention of the other members of the family that Touya felt rejected by) and proof that his existence matters.
And it comes together in this brief delusional happy moment for Touya - getting the attention and validation he craves from his family.
Tumblr media
And it's incredibly heartbreaking because it also makes it clear that Shouto could never give this to him, because it's not something Touya ever wanted from him. Because Shouto never denied him the way he perceived it from the others.
But also, this "perfect" moment falls apart almost immediately with Touya's realization that all he needed was just this small thing, something he could have gotten so easily, and he's unable to stop the explosion accumulating inside himself.
Tumblr media
It's the symbol of all the rage he's been holding inside and it just seeks an outlet. And despite coming all together, Endeavor, Rei, Fuyumi and Natsuo are not enough to do anything about it.
Tumblr media
And that's where Shouto comes in a second time - hits Touya again with Phosphor - just absorbing / neutralizing all that accumulated heat.
We don't get much of what Touya thinks of Shouto at this stage, but we his approach from Touya's POV in the moments when Touya is thinking about how it was all too late.
First he sees Shouto as this pupil-less monster, but then all the confrontation with Shouto and with the rest of the family makes Touya realize that he doesn't want to die anymore. He wants more time, he wants to say more things and at the same moment he sees Shouto finally as a crying child - as someone who is desperate to help his family, to fight for them and finally can give something to Touya that he wants - more time, a chance to say those unsaid things.
And sure, Shouto wants to save everyone - his friends, the pro heroes, the civilians in the blast radius. But also remember, Shouto doesn't know Rei, Natsuo and Fuyumi are there. Only Touya and Endeavor. And knowing his father, probably both All Might and Shouto knew that even if Endeavor had no ice to stop the explosion, he would take Touya up into the sky like he did with the nomu. I'm sure they both knew Endeavor's only option and the route he'd take.
So what All Might is truly asking Shouto is if he can live with himself if he doesn't try to save Endeavor and Touya - the two people who hurt him personally in very deep ways.
Tumblr media
And while it's true that Shouto saves everyone (because Rei's intervention stops Endeavor's murder suicide), it's with Phosphor - the move he made specifically for Touya. And if that's not clear enough, then Shouto goes on to praise Touya in front to Endeavor - for his quirk, for how he was the one who finally did what Endeavor wanted and kept surpassing the heat limits going as far as saying that he can't do that, putting an end to the competition. He gives Touya the win he wants. He also rejects the "masterpiece" label and with the same move, freeing Touya from the "failure" label.
Tumblr media
So maybe the ways Shouto is reaching out is not as straightforward and cutesy like Ochako or Deku in the spirit world vision - but Shouto keeps fighting despite Touya's rejection for his family, including Touya and when there is finally something he can give Touya (like a chance to live or ridding him of the "failure" label), he gives it to him.
He's been clearly paying attention and thinking what to do since he woke up in the hospital. Preparing for a chance to save his brother with training a move that serves no other purpose than to keep Touya alive. He's choosing the confrontation that's clearly emotionally very hard for him because he knows that Touya needs the family. He is the first one to ask him why he didn't come home, the first one to acknowledge his quirk and skill, the first one to tell him he's not a failure, but a masterpiece. And I think given what Touya's character is about and how his wants and needs differ from Toga's - it's really Shouto's best effort to save to him (being painfully aware that he's the last person Touya wants).
It all comes back to Shouto's arc - actions, not words.
Tumblr media
It reminds me a bit of Midoriya vs Todoroki - where Shouto didn't want Izuku for more than to prove a point to Endeavor, and Izuku had to keep fighting and breaking himself just to get his attention. Or how Izuku was aware that after beating Shinsou, there are no words he can give him - it has to come from someone else. Or the time Deku let Kirishima take the lead to reach out for Bakugou, because he knew (thought) it wasn't his hand Kacchan wanted.
Like, sure, there are situations like Toga vs Uraraka, where Uraraka had the key all along to Toga because Toga wanted her. But there are also plenty of times in the story that are like Shouto's situation, where he knows that his hand is unwanted, but he still has to give it his best shot.
At the end of the day, it always takes a village to save someone. That was the point of the Eri arc. Uraraka is not doing it alone either - maybe the endpoint yes, but she couldn't have gotten here alone.
And I believe that Shouto's actions also matter for Touya eventually, we just haven't really seen it yet so expressly (but I hope we will), because the Todoroki plot is the darker, more nuanced plot and that comes with more complexity and less fairy tale-like turns.
TL;DR: Each villain's situation is different. Shouto is reaching out the ways he can, the ways that make sense for his and Touya's relationship. He is rejected, because Touya and Toga are different people with different wants, but Shouto despite that rejection keeps reaching for his brother to save him, to give him and their entire family another chance. And maybe, one day, all his actions will pay off with Touya also opening his heart to him. Sometimes, these things take time. But that doesn't make Shouto lesser, because connection is a two-way thing and Touya was clearly not ready to connect with anyone until he found some closure with Endeavor.

I reject feminism not because of some misguided belief that women belong in the kitchen, or because I think women should be subordinate to men. American feminism, as a long and complex ideology spanning centuries, is often divided into “waves”. Each is a movement within a movement, all dedicated to making life better for women, but with slightly different goals. The suffragettes who fought for our right to vote are known as the first wave. Radical feminism, on the other hand, is a splinter group dating back to the second wave of feminism in the 1960s that feels fourth wave feminists of the modern era have lost touch with their roots (Grady). This is the group that spawned the misandrist, or men-hating, feminists.
“Oh woe is me!” cries the radical feminist, also known as the radfem, as she types on her Macbook Pro. She furiously posts about how she was “mansplained” to that day at work when she couldn’t get the new coffee machine to work, and how her creepy coworker complimented her new blazer. “How dare he!” she mutters. The radical feminist clutches her privilege like barnacles to the bottom of a pier, seeing anyone who dares disagree with her as the underpaid workman hired to pry her off.
Is this a stereotype? Certainly. Radical feminists are real people, after all, with stories and personal histories like everyone else, who are just as deserving of the right to speak their mind. But the fact remains that they use their right to speak to erase trans people, push their narrative of victimhood, and violently campaign against sex workers. When a group brimming with hatred and anger for those even more marginalized then they are is loud enough to be conflated with people fighting for equality, rather than further discrimination, there is a problem (Preen). And the problem is radical feminism, which has to go—and if this means getting rid of feminism altogether, then so be it.
“TERF” is an acronym that stands for  “trans-exclusionary radical feminist”; however, those who identify with this particular sect of radfem denounce the label as a slur and prefer the name “gender critical”. Discerning readers will note that this is an unapologetic euphemism.
Gender critical, in this case, doesn't mean that they are critical of the institution or concept of gender as a whole. Rather, it means they don’t believe in the existence of trans people and actively seek to erase them. These are people who only believe in biological sex, both primary and secondary sex characteristics, who refuse to use preferred pronouns, and who would seek to push through legislation that would cause numerous problems for transgender individuals. Now, one could argue that these are small subsets of productive, non-extremist communities, lurking online like internet trolls. But these communities are larger than you’d think, considering a subreddit called r/GenderCritical on Reddit has over 54 thousand members. These people have massive platforms to spread hate and enormous echo chambers of radfems who think just like them.
A high-profile radfem group called The Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF for short) has been particularly active lately in the justice system. They wrote a “Declaration of No Confidence in LGB Movement Leadership” (Women’s Liberation Front).
The “LGB movement”.
The entire petition is dedicated to somehow getting the “LGB Movement” to denounce transgender people and pay “restitution” to those they have wronged by campaigning for trans rights. The post sounded academic, perhaps even sounded reasonable if one didn’t read too closely. But it calls the surgeries and hormonal treatments that trans people use to alleviate their dysphoria, which is a mental condition, mutilation. They call it “irresponsible” for trained medical practitioners to allow, or even recommend such treatments.
Typical TERF dogma is to say that trans women are really just men who have a fetish for seeing themselves as women, which they call “autogynephilia” (Blanchard). All of these are just excuses for these women to discriminate against trans people while hiding under the feminism label, twisting the movement that historically fought for equality to their own ends.
This isn’t limited to niche Reddit communities or the odd militant organization. J.K. Rowling herself, a woman beloved by many people for writing the Harry Potter book series, was recently criticized online for tweeting her support for a woman named Maya Forster, who had posted transphobic sentiments on her twitter. Radical feminism may be a small group, but they are incredibly loud, and their dogma is pervasive. It’s seductive in that it makes you feel superior by playing upon your existing preconceptions of evil, dangerous men. The narrative of a faceless oppressor you can blame all of your problems upon is painfully easy to buy into. For example, you’ve probably been ignored or talked over by a man at least once. Chalking it up to how “all men are terrible people” is easy. And the whole idea that it’s time for women to be on top, for women to be in power when we have been historically oppressed, has a nice symmetry to it—some bitter irony for the other gender, right? It’s easy, and it’s symmetrical, but responding to oppression with oppression is the opposite of progress.
Tied into their anti-trans dogma, radfems are also strongly against sex work in all its forms. To them, there is no safe version of sex work—it’s all exploitation and “for the men”. This goes hand in hand with the victimization of women, because to these people, no woman in sex work could be in control of her own life (“Subcultures and Sociology”). This, of course, ignores that sex work is dangerous enough without privileged women, who likely have never needed to work in that particular field, trying to pass legislation to make it even more dangerous.
The blatant victimization of women that pervades radfem dogma exists right there in the name of WoLF. The need for a “liberation front” itself implies that women are slaves, and a radical feminist would make the argument that we are, oppressed and enslaved by the patriarchy as we seem to be. But a deeper look into their website reveals more.
Their membership page says that “Please note that we are a women-only organization, intended to serve and include biologically female persons who survived girlhood” (Women’s Liberation Front). Putting aside the blatant transphobia that is par for the course by now, the issue is with the phrase “survived girlhood”. This phrase implies that growing up female is some sort of Hunger Games-esque battle for survival. I don’t know about you, but my girlhood consisted of watching Disney Channel and eating cookies. I didn’t need to fight for the right to grow older, not in the ever-progressive Bay Area.
And while this may be a different case in other countries, perhaps one with more restrictive laws than the US, it is important to note that WoLF is an American organization dedicated to making changes in America. Rather than fighting actual battles for women’s rights where women are actively oppressed by repressive laws and policies, and rather than aiding women suffering in abusive households, this “Women’s Liberation Front” is writing strongly worded letters to nobody in particular and pushing a narrative of victimization.
An article written by the Independent in the UK expounds upon this idea that “Misogyny should be recognised as a hate crime for the same reason that misandry should not be: women and girls are systematically oppressed and exploited by men and boys” (Smith). This was about the issue of making misogyny a hate crime—should misandry, the hatred of men, fall under the same umbrella? This author argues that no, it should not be, because apparently our “systematic oppression” negates any reason for similar protections to be given to men. There are several issues with this idea of systematic oppression, the most glaring of which is how it makes women the victims. It makes us seem helpless, exploited by a system we cannot control. This demonstrates the inherent hypocrisy of radical feminism. These are the same women who virulently campaign against being seen as children, for whom their own autonomy is a right they must protect against the ruthlessly exploitative patriarchy. And yet they cast themselves as victims, adopting the infantilization they claim to oppose.
Radical feminists don’t have it entirely wrong, however. Some of their goals seem downright reasonable rather than rabid, one of which is their goal to have women’s only spaces. These are spaces they describe as being for women only, such as gender-segregated showers and changing rooms, correctional facilities, and rape trauma centers (Women’s Liberation Front). Radfems do not believe that there should only be showers, changing rooms, prisons, and trauma centers for women; rather, they should be separated by gender. Which, of course, is not an utterly unreasonable expectation. Having gender-neutral showers, especially once past the age of puberty, would be uncomfortable and invasive.
The problem with radfem’s “women’s only spaces” is two-fold. For one, they would seek to exclude trans women from such spaces on account of their “not being real women”. The sheer transphobia of such a sentiment cannot be ignored, despite the field of landmines that the issue of trans women in female prisons can be. But on top of that, there’s a growing sentiment among radical feminists that men are an utterly different species from women. Not in the strict denotation sense, of course, but that because of their different biology and supposed different experiences growing up, no man could ever sympathize with female issues and female struggles. No man should ever be allowed to weigh in on supposedly “female-only” issues.
There is this growing divide between men and women during a time when the entirety of humanity needs to stand together on global issues. Climate change comes to mind, as do political conflicts and the return of measles due to anti-vax ideology. By emphasizing this divide, radical feminists push people apart. Movements, especially ones calling for great change, only succeed when the people behind them are united. When they are not—when there are splinter groups, competing ideologies, and those who refuse to hear one another—they fail, every single time.
This is perhaps said best by the Washington Post, in an article saying that radfem fixation on the apparent bad behavior of men distracts from real problems (Young). But more importantly, it colors the movement as a whole. I am not a feminist, and I never will be—at least, not until there is a distinct ideological separation between actual gender equality and, as the article puts it, raking men over the coals for perceived slights and the crimes of their ancestors (Young).
But above all, I reject this idea that womanhood is pain and the narrative of oppression that privileged women on the internet want me to believe. I refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of the feminist movement until they themselves refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of radical feminism, and neither should you. It is only when there is a near-unanimous rejection of the monster this movement made that there will be any ideological change; indeed, any societal change.

Tumblr media
Wade had been trapped in that cave he used to call "home" for way too long: his domestic routine had become his major torture, his eyes kept landing on every spot of the apartment he just was sleeping at and bringing his hookups to at some occasion. And his mind kept displaying in loop every bit of memory with his beloved Vanessa it could recover. Deadpool was a temporary pause from that sorrow, temporary yet necessary, his flirty comments and cocky behaviors appeared less vibrant at the eyes of the X-Men too. Negasonic Teenage Warhead knew what was going on in his life, she didn't have the heart to act a bully as her usual. That collective sense of compassion towards Wade was driving him nuts, he hated being pitied, he always had hated it. A loss wasn't going to change the relationship he had with everyone... or was it?
He still wanted to sexually harass Colossus; he still desired to play princesses with Yukio; he still craved to hang out with Weasel and fall asleep with him somewhere, shitfaced; he wanted Blind Al to hug him once again. He wanted things to go back to before he met Vanessa, so he couldn't fall in love with her, share joys and sorrows with her. So his heart couldn't shrink in pain for her death. He could never forget her laughter, how beautifully she developed since she stopped being an escort. He could never forget the look of sadness in her eyes when they found out he had cancer, but how she decided to stay by his side ad support him with no hesitation. They had a special chemistry, something Yukio kept calling "the power of soulmates". Wade always scoffed at that memory, Yukio's excited smile while pronouncing those words, a mix of amusement and annoyance invaded him. He didn't believe in such bullshit, the soulmates thing; he might believe in unicorns, but not that.
However, sometimes, whilst remembering his deceased wife for the nth time, the anti-hero stopped himself thinking "why don't I believe in soulmates?".  He thought of himself. He thought of Vanessa. He thought of their past alone before meeting and becoming one thing together.
Why didn't he believe in soulmates?
Because his - no, their - nature told them so. They were free spirits, loving each other because their shell decided itself to soften around each other, no superior Force was pushing them in the other's arms because It said so. They were free to leave if things didn't work out, and they were free to stay. Unluckily, or luckily, their strongest trait was their stubbornness; and his stubbornnes was now biting him in the ass, refusing to let her go.
"Leave me alone, I've done what I had to."
"I let you go, it's your turn to do the same."
"We had a deal... you're not respecting it..."
"Of course I moved on, why wouldn't I?!"
Some nights, Vanessa's memories were more violently present in Wade's mind.
"I hate you! Go away!", he would think while crashing his dead wife's picture on the floor, breaking the protective glass with a violent step on it, not caring if he was barefoot.
He would just stare at the rug, the floor and the picture getting more and more stained in red.
Many times he had thought to jump off a bridge, attempting to escape from her or to join her, his intentions were confused. But he knew it would have been useless.
So he started going and sit on the bridge to admire the horizon, and at least distract the sight with something different than his bedroom; his mind was busy inventing little stories about the people he could see from up there, it was fun, kinda.
Until the day he felt someone else's presence on that bridge.
Wade faintly turned his head to see with the corner of his eyes who was sniffling and crying next to him. It was you, wrapped in a dull colored purplish hoodie. You were standing on the edge of the bridge, letting out incoherent stutters as you were looking down in the void under the high construction you and the man were perched. What caught your attention among the chaos that was your mind, was a movement of his hand, patting on a spot right next to him. You hesitantly sat, catching the invite, and sniffled one last time.
"It's not gonna relieve you, believe me", he softly spoke, not afraid that his thin voice was being covered by a far thunder. You pulled your eyes away from the void under your feet, and looked at him, slightly frowning.
"W...what...?", you asked, goofily wiping your nose with the sleeve of your hoodie. He noisily sighed and turned his head to the other side, so you couldn't see him. "You heard me well. What you wanted to do is stupid, you know that", he rudely replied, his head was covered by a hoodie too, it was pink with a plush horn on top, but it had bee obviously badly washed and some spots had been overly bleached: it looked like that hoodie had vitiligo.
You could hear him swallow down after moments of awkward silence, only broken by a start thin rain falling on them.
"S'ry", he quickly let out, playing with his wool gloves fingertips. You slowly nodded to accept his ashamed apology, and looked to the other side. More silence. The rain increased, but you two didn't care much, maybe Wade did a bit, since he tightened the hoodie around his face.
You took a deep breath, and closed your eyes: you had the urge to talk with somebody, and if that man was there the same moment as you were, it could mean something.
"My ex spread my nudes online.", "My wife's dead".
Both of you blurted out at the same time; apparently you weren't the only one who needed to vent. You looked at Wade and let out a coy smile, but he refused to return it, still hiding himself.
"I'm sorry for your loss, sir... when did it happen?", you asked, trying to be available for listening, but his silence was clear enough for you to realize he wasn't available for opening up. Not yet, hopefully.
"She was everything to me... and now she's gone. I don't know if I can ever move on", he murmured, teasing a loosened wool thread poking out of his gloves.
"I am sure you will manage. A loss is always hard to hande, but there are multiple ways to cope-"
"I don't want to cope", he hissed at you, shifting further from you with his hips, and crossing his arms.
His aggressiveness made you pinch your lips together, and pick on your hands skin with your nails, your coping mechanism for strong anxiety.
"For how long you've been together with your ex?", he then asked, his head turned back a bit towards you, but still in a way that you couldn't see his face. His question made your eyes itch and fill in tears, which were mingled with the raindrops rolling down your face.
"Six years... he proposed last week", you revealed, keeping your head down to observe how your hands skin was getting redder and redder for your pinching. "I... I found out tonight he was planning to leave me to the altar to run away with his side piece. Then my dad found the Telegram channel with my pics in it, and disowned me".
"Goddamn! Ya serious?!", he asked, his voice got suddenly loud, startling you a bit. You quickly nodded, sniffling, his eagerness to know more like a gossip girl made the atmosphere less tensed. It heavily contrasted the gloomy environment, but it wasn't unpleasant at all. You told him the whole story, and he seemed more and more interested, despite the fact he was firmly refusing to turn towards you. When you told him the whole story, he scoffed, definitely annoyed and personally involved in your story.
"Ah, what an asshole. He truly took advantage of your good heart. But you should have noticed all the red flags floating around you, pal. I mean, c'mon, revenge porn is vulgar, and old-fashioned!", he snarled, with a confident tone, he seemed like another person. He probably used that way to protect himself from thinking too much, from pain: humor. You couldn't help but envy him. Then, your envy turned into thankfulness, for having met someone to talk to during that tough moment. And then, your thankfulness turned again into something else. You were fimly believing your meeting wasn't that casual; something or someone wanted you both there, two men with a broken heart, it couldn't be a coincidence!
"I guess you're right, Wade... only you can understand me at this moment", you sighed, looking towards his direction. He was still protecting his face with the hood. "I know, kiddo. I know. These are hard times, we gotta stay united when our heart is broken, our way to fight toxic masculinity", he ironically replied, you were starting to adore and admire his sense of humor, so sarcastic. Your cheeks couldn't help but blush, and your eyes shone in determination: you wanted to know who was hiding under that hood!
"Wade?", you softly called, shifting closer to him.
"Mh?", the man said, too distracted by the couple pigeons mating next to him.
"Do you believe in God?", you asked, particularly interested in his answers. You had a little smile on your face, your hands nervously pulling on the laces of your hoodie. Wade was about to turn towards you, but stopped right in the perfect moment to make you catch a glimpse of his face, his skin was oddly..reddish? You could hear him scoff as he adjusted his hood better around his face to hide more.
"Nah, I don't. It's some bullshit someone invented thousands of years ago to justify the fact a fourteen years old girl cheated on their daddy arranged husband and she's expecting a child that's not his", he answered, pretty annoyed.
His answer left you speechless, making you stare at him with wide eyes. The silence made him frown and slightly turn towards you, not enough to watch his face.
"Was it too much?", he asked. His voice made you snap back to reality, and you shook your head. You couldn't help but giggle, and get fidgety. He kind of had a point, you thought.
"I was just wondering... if our encounter was somehow planned up there, in the skies. Maybe some god, or some guardian, some planet decided it's the right time to, you know... heal us by making us meet," you smiled, blushing a bit. Your hand casually went meeting his as you spoke, surprised and relieved he wasn't pulling back. "Pretty corny, though, eh? Yet... it feels so right, and so made on purpose, I don't really think our encounter was casual, today. Think of it, Wade: both of us, on the edge of this bridge, both hurt for a tragedy related to our partners, on the verge of committing suici- OH, MY GOD!!" you yelped, once you finally paid attention  to the fact Wade was finally facing you with his face on full display. Your heart was aching for how you were feeling about that face, but what a disgraceful sight that was: his skin was full of holes and wrinkles, and looked as if he had shoved his head in an air fryer. He looked like an avocado had sex with an older, more disgusting avocado.
He was looking at you with the eyes of who 100% expected that reaction from you: no offense, no anger. Just extreme annoyance, with an inch of self pity.
"I never said I want to commit suicide. You're the depressed emo, not me", the man retorted, his annoyance was obvious even from his tone, and his hand pulled back as he spoke. Perhaps, he was hoping 'till the last instant you wouldn't have that reaction at the sight of him.
Your face gained back color, turning from pale to a bright shameful red, and pulled your hand back too, like a dog you were putting a leash on to keep it from walking too close to strangers - too close to him.
"Y-yeah, I know! But, you see, you were sitting as the edge and... you seemed pretty defeated too, wrapped up in that shabby hoodie..." , you were saying, but Wade scoffed, his face showed offense.
"Excuse you! My hoodie is not shabby", he protested, wrapping himself tighter in that hoodie, and pouted. That expression widened a bunch of holes on his left cheek; that sight was disturbng, you had to collect all your strength not to gag right there and then.
There was silence again. The rain had stopped, making you realize both you and Wide were soaked.
"Maybe a lil' bit shabby... Anyway, no. Our encounter was not planned by some planet, and no, we're not soulmates, if that's what you were thinking", he blurted out, more annoyed.
"But I was just saying-", you tried to reply, but he got up, raising his hand to stop you from speaking. He inhaled as if he wanted to say something, but his phone started ringing. You were baffled when you heard the ringtone, reminding something of your childhood; maybe it was the Cooking Mama theme, or the Lelli Kelly shoes jingle, you weren't sure.
Wade grabbed his phone and stared at it for some second, letting it ring, before hanging up.
"Gotta go. Take care", he just said, and before you could say anything, he jumped off the bridge.
"WADE!!", you shouted, turning pale again in a matter of instants, but when you rushed to see where he landed, he disappeared. There was a big blood stain, but no trace of him.
You didn't see Wade around for a long time. You were often dreaming of him, like a feverish dream, and whoever you asked about him never heard of him.
You were starting to think he never existed.
Maybe he was just your conscience shouting at you that throwing yourself off a bridge wasn't the right choice, that your asshole ex didn't deserve the satisfaction to see you drown, and the fact your conscience looked like that was the fruit of your pitiful self-esteem? Maybe that's why he was so sure your encounter wasn't wanted by the universe...
You were keeping gaslighting yourself, for days, weeks. Your sister Lily couldn't take it anymore, you were taunting her by keeping repeating her about your encounter; she knew your words by heart like a theatre script, and ended up parroting you every time you told her about Wade for the nth time.
"Listen,", she once interrupted you, tired to hear the same thing again, "you clearly need some other company aside of me and your imaginary man, so tonight we're getting ready and we're going out. Got it?!"
You didn't have the courage to disobey, so you begrudgingly accepted her invitation, and together went to a bar; however, you weren't sure that going out with her was a good idea, the places she usually was in weren't that good, speaking in terms of safety.
The place she took you to was loaded with people, most of them were clearly drunk, and other were flirting or making out in some corner of the building, not too hidden from the crowd. Despite you were absolutely serving in your outfit, and perfectly mingling, if not outstanding most people in there, you felt so uncomfortable in there: that was definitely your sister's lifestyle, not yours, but that didn't deny the fact you were infinitely thankful to her for at least trying to cheer you up and distract you from your struggles.
Lily parked you at the counter, and paid you a couple drinks. You chose a Quattro Bianchi, not the best cocktail in terms of taste, but excellent to get quickly drunk.
As soon as the bartender served you the drink, you snatched the glass from his hands, and chugged the whitish liquid. The fact you drank quickly was starting to make you feel dizzy almost immediately, so you couldn't hold a loud groan and an expression of pure discomfort for the bad taste of the cocktail. The bartender looked at you with pity and annoyance, he knew that if you kept drinking like that you would have puked all over his counter, that he should have cleaned, but he wondered what happened to you to make you drink like that.
Soon an odd figure joined you and the other drunkards at the counter: he was dressed with a bright red suit, two black circles around his white eyes and two... katanas?! behind his back.
You looked at the second Quattro Bianchi you ordered, and gently pushed it away. It was giving you hallucinations.
But soon, some words slipped out of your lips without you to notice.
"Hello again, Wade", you muttered, immediately catching his attention. You couldn't see his expression under the red leather mask, but you could tell he was surprised. Meanwhile, you changed your mind about that whitish drinking, and you grabbed it again, starting avidly drinking it.
'Wade' slowed you down by holding the glass with his hand. "You have horrible taste 'bout drinks. That one you picked, it sucks", he commented, a hint of amusement in his voice.
"It's my second", you precised, feeling your face heating up for the drunkness. He scoffed and replied with a whispered "I can tell".
"Nice of you to appear again in my life... I, uh... I was afraid I was losing my mind. I was getting convinced you didn't exist... but here you are...! Coming back to me like nothing happened... how much it passed? Years?!" you exclaimed, raising your voice, but not noticing it. "Just a month", he replied, observing the fun show you were giving with you exaggerate hand gesture and stuttering.
"Just a month?! Damn... time flies when you're having fun...", you mumbled, obviously sarcastic. Wade scoffed again and snatched the drink off your hand to drink it. He lifted his mask to do so, so you were sure it was him, seeing his porous red skin scrunching around that glass.
"Will I look like one of Spongebob's relatives too if I drink from that glass now?", you asked, drunkness gave you courage to make fun of his appearance. He didn't seem too pleased by that comment at the beginning.
"I fucking hope so", he grinned, slamming the glass down in front of you, so the drink spilled all over the table. "Drink, if you have the courage. I'm contagious, I promise", he added.
You didn't hesitate to drink the rest of that cocktail.
His mug of beer arrived, and he drank it slowly.
"How did you know it was me?", he asked, his tone was genuinely curious, no irony. you shrugged. "I just felt it, like a sixth sense", you replied, gesturing something that was supposed to be a third eye opening on your forehead.
"Or maybe you guessed?", he giggled, making you blush even more, but you didn't want to give up on your gag. "Oh, no! I'm a psychic, that's the truth!", you insisted, so both of you laughed.
"Maybe it was", Wade then commented, after a brief pause, making you turn to him and raise an eyebrow. "It was... what was what?", you asked, and then ordered another drink.
"That encounter, last month. Maybe it was planned... and I'm starting to think this encounter was planned too. Dunno...", he told you, before taking a big gulp of beer. You chuckled, snorting a bit. "So what? Now we're soulmates?", you ironically asked. He shrugged.
"Maybe...", he murmured, but saw you had heard him. He cleared his voice. "M-maybe you drank too much", he corrected himself. But, who knows, maybe...
"I'll take you home", he said, pulling his mask back down. He thanked the red of his costume, it didn't let the others the blush on his face.
