World's Unite Headcanon's/Tidbits

Been thinking about this for a while... What if I made an entire post on fun facts about this alternate universe? I'll mainly be talking about each character respectively and what they usually do. Cool? Cool.

Sonic:

Sonic grew up in cloudsdale and even attended the same school as Rainbow Dash. The two have been known to be fierce flying rivals, always trying to one-up each other.

Sonic doesn't have a place to call home. As such, he usually sleeps on clouds and gets food to go.

Miles:

Miles, unlike Tails, doesn't have a nickname because his deformity is more inherit to his pony type.

Miles does still like mechanics, except now he's been focused on helping other pegasi like him achieve their dreams of flight by constructing them wings.

Tails lives on the ground instead of the skies, still working on a secret project he's refused to tell anyone about, including Sonic.

Knuckles:

Knuckles has a deep fascination with the world outside his guardian shrine, and often visits the libraries to study pony history. He met Twilight that way, too.

Knuckles likes helping out with anything that involves carrying things. He once managed to help kick back a toppling apple tree from crushing Applejack.

AJ does consider Knuckles to be an honorary member of the apple family, since he doesn't have a family of his own.

Knuckles does visit the Crystal Empire occasionally to check in with Cadance and the Crystal Heart, just to make sure it's stable.

Amy Rose:

Amy is one of the very few ponies who can keep up with Pinkie's high energy. As such, she's managed to keep going after everyone else clocked out during games or challenges.

Amy is one of the strongest unicorns out there, and managed to achieve third place without using her magic during the Trihoofalon! The other contestants were mainly earth ponies, but it was still impressive.

Amy can manage the strength of a small barn on her back with ease. That's the amount she's weightlifting currently, anyway.

Shadow:

Shadow has given himself a soft and quiet life ever since he's been released from the dungeons, trying to live alone.

Shadow tends to see a lot of Maria in Fluttershy.

Shadow and Fluttershy are close friends.

Shadow is shockingly gentle and precise with everything he does, not wanting to rush himself.

For whatever reason, many tiny critters cling onto Shadow and cuddle with him.

Shadow likes flower crowns. A lot. His favorite flowers are baby blue "Forget-Me-Nots".

Rouge:

Rouge does sometimes preform jewel heists, but only when necessary.

Rouge is sometimes hired to be Luna's personal spy, as she is one of her Bat pony kin.

Rouge's eyes sometimes sparkle in the dark.

Rouge does embroidery in her free time, and Rarity has taken notice to it. She sometimes assists in specialized embroidery whenever Rarity is stuck on a deadline, and gets paid in gems.

Silver:

Ever since Silver came to the past, Twilight has had a constant fascination towards someone like him.

Silver is sometimes accidentally misgendered because of his long, fluffy mane and tail. He always tries to correct ponies on that when it does happen.

Different kinds of bow limbs? You're talking my kinda language! I haven't shot in maybe 4 years since Dad died (it was something we did together) but I loved the technical side of bow tuning, arrow spine, fletching, all that good stuff. My main set were 34lb short uukha carbon fibre limbs but I got a gorgeous second hand set of 40lb medium win&win inno ex powers which I tragically never got to fully tune.

What kind of limbs do you favour? And what kind of archery? I've tried (and enjoyed!) target, field and even clout!

Since I'm fuzzy/tipsy enough (rough day) to decide replying to tags is appropriate, I've never had tiktok, am training as a volunteer run leader to give back to my social running club, fecking hate washing up and am currently trying to perfect veggie casseroles. I have a spy fiction book on loan from a colleague as we are both trying to make our way through the Jackson lamb series, though she is more keen than I, and duolingo is a necessary evil in the pursuit of basic French since my closest family are planning to retire out there.

What are you learning/studying at the moment?

so i haven't done any archery since i was a kid; most of my research about archery is pre-research before getting back into it sometime in the near future when i have the free time and disposable income. i mostly shot target when i was younger, with a simple but reliable takedown recurve. but it's something i'd like to get serious about some day, and i'd love to pick your brain on it sometime, if you're open to it. hit me up sometime and we'll chat ☺️

right now i'm mostly brushing up on electrical info preparing for my union program's placement test later this summer. i have a bit of experience in the field and in classes and it would be nice to start smartly ahead of some of the redundant classwork in my union's apprenticeship program.

i do know some french, though i'm woefully out of practice. i studied in high school but learning bits and pieces of other languages has pushed it out of the forefront of the Language I Spent A Lot Of Time Learning real estate in my brain meat.

i also am trying very hard to get back into running (full shifts of construction, followed by weightlifting regimen, followed by routine running, gets a little tiresome day after day. but i'm trying!) and i love it. never did it as part of school, or part of a club, so i bet i'm doing it all wrong, but i feel fantastic and that's all that matters to me 😁

"You are way buff": Re-examining the wrestler-librarian in Totally Spies!

Jerry, the head of WHOOP, calls the librarian "mild-mannered" as he shows a video of the librarian decking a problem patron

Back in May 2021, I wrote about an April 2003 episode of Totally Spies! which begins with a scene in the Liverpool Library. A middle-aged White woman with a hair bun who is confronted by an irate patron who refused to pay fines for his overdue books, and she accepts this, not knowing what else to do. This changes when a pendant wielded by a man in the shadows causes her personality to change, resulting in her grabbing the patron, holding him the air and throwing him onto the ground, shocking the students. She follows this by laughing at his misfortune. As I joked then, "Don't return books late to her! She'll deck you!" Since I'm actually watching the entire series, episode-by-episode, it only seemed right to come to this with a new perspective, considering how much I've written since then.

The episode clearly is setting the expectation that librarians aren't "supposed" to be this strong. Rather they supposed to be "wimps," as the librarian herself remarks, and "mild-mannered" as Jerry, the head of WHOOP, head of the spy agency that Sam, Alex, and Clover work for, put it. Without a doubt, it is wrong for a librarian to assault patrons. Her reaction is understandable, though, as he was being a jerk. This is further reinforced when the spies go to the librarian's apartment house in Liverpool, where she is weightlifting, and later says that in the past all she lived for was books and an afternoon cup of tea, but now there is so much more in her life. She says this as she starts jumping rope, can now bench 150 pounds, and is working on her abs, as the spies leave her be, even as they are puzzled.

While they are there, Clover seems to question that she is even a librarian, asking her, "Are you sure you're a librarian because sister you are way buff?" After they leave the apartment, Clover then tells Alex and Sam, "what a freak show. How often do you meet a wrestling librarian?" Again, being a buff librarian is seen as a negative, something which isn't "normal." Alex makes a bad joke about how it is just as unlikely as being an international spy. Sam looks at a local paper and saws it can't a coincidence that a pro-wrestler retired, so they go to a wrestling gymnasium, finding the wrestler who now likes to read books. It is then, with an idea from Alex, that Sam realizes they have switched personalities. On the one hand, Clover may be perturbed by this "different" librarian while Alex and Sam may find it weird. However, when it comes down to it, I would even venture that Sam, and maybe even Alex, are fine with this librarian being buff, as long as the librarian isn't decking patrons of course.

Later on, doing their typical spy work, Sam, Clover, and Alex go into the Liverpool Library, dressing up in professional clothes so they can get in. For reasons not known, the librarian isn't there, but this allows them to break into a locked drawer, find the date book of the librarian, hoping to find the connection between the wrestler and librarian. They find it is a man named Dr. Gray, a psychotherapist. He has a personality adjuster which he made because he tired of hearing people complain and wants people to walk in each other's shoes if you will, in an extreme form of psychotherapy, but not to deviate from their set societal roles. In my original post I said that the actions of the spies seemed unnecessary as they could have "asked the librarian about it rather than stealing her book" and that this made them "bad spies." When rewatching the episode, it is implied that Sam only opens the locked drawer to look at the date book, not to steal it. So, likely, the book was returned to the drawer and locked up again.

By the episode end, there is an open question as to whether those whose personalities have been switched are switched back. This is because the spies don't have time to switch back the personalities of anyone, apart from Jerry and Clover. Did they switch the personalities of the librarian and wrestler? Or did they leave them intact? That is open to viewer interpretation, as WHOOP now possesses the behavioral adjuster and can use it if they want. It means, as I said in the original post, that it is possible that "the buff librarian is still out there." In that post I also argued that this librarian seemed to fulfill the spinster librarian stereotype outlined by Jennifer Snoek-Brown on Reel Librarians, adding that when the librarian becomes buff, she becomes "scary," arguing that when she throws the patron on the ground, it is a show of authority, making others afraid "to cross her." I further asked if she is still hoarding information as a rule-monger, stated that she is not timid or meek anymore, might even possibly be comic relief, but is not flirtatious or sexy. I concluded that post by saying:

I hope that if her personality did change, she becomes more assertive and stands up to people who don't follow library rules in the future. So, I have a mixed view of this buff librarian, although you could argue she busts existing stereotypes I suppose. For sure, her character is definitely different than the shushing librarians or anything else I've seen in any of the reviews on this blog, for sure!

I still believe that, but I'd like to go beyond that analysis. I would argue that by being buff, this librarian is going against usual depictions of librarians, often as those who are strict, elderly, and uptight, as Snoek-Brown explains. She shares some characteristics with the "Liberated librarian" character type, in that she undergoes a change in appearance, becoming more feminine and attractive, but she is still committed to libraries, although in a new way. Due to her age, probably in her 40s or 50s, she is not a spirited young girl. Although she can become violent, she isn't shown to be sexually charged or flirtatious, like the naughty librarian character type, despite letting her "hair down" outside the conversation. She is just a librarian who likes to pump iron. She undoubtedly continues to be an information provider who provides information, highlights importance of rules, or engages in occupational tasks, but is not necessarily comic relief like some other librarians. I still think it is possible she was voiced by Janice Kawaye, an actress of Japanese descent who has voiced characters since 1983.

Although this librarian in Totally Spies! is the only fictional librarian that I am aware of who lifts weights, jumps rope, and does other exercises, there are actual librarians who are also weightlifters! One of these is Katie Montague, who worked Princeton Theological Seminary Library as a Manuscript Metadata and Quality Assurance Assistant and a Librarian for the Monmouth County Public Library System. She is also a weightlifter, saying on now defunct blog where she promoted what is close to her heart, like "reading and lifting, and...some pelvic floor awareness." It was also noted that she lifts weights and enjoys "reading manuscripts in the library." An interview with her in October 2017 claimed that she is "redefining the librarian cliché while simultaneously turning the lifting world upside down." [1] It listed her full name, and low, and behold, she is still working at Princeton Theological Seminary Library, and has been a Manuscripts Metadata and Quality Assessment Assistant there since 2016, and a coach at Long Branch CrossFit according to her LinkedIn page.

More recently, there is Krystal Gagen-Spriggs, a lecturer in Teacher Librarianship and PhD Candidate. She works at Charles Sturt University as Lecturer in Teacher Librarianship, as she noted on her blog, Adventures of the Lifting Librarian. She currently has an Instagram with the username "theliftinglibrarian." Unlike Montague, she lives in Australia, so that makes her experiences in librarianship different from someone who works in the United States. [2] Additional weight-lifting librarians include Fort McMurray Public Library director Carolyn Goolsby, Episcopal High School library director Tiffany Whitehead, a librarian named Megan A. Brooks, otherwise known as Library Grrl, and former librarian (and current fundraiser) Kate Tkacik Sweeney. In 2013, Goolsby was interviewed by a local paper in Fort McMurray, which said she is "far from the soft-spoken, matronly librarians of yore." There's also a Salt Lake City librarian, Josh Hanagarne, who wrote a book, The World’s Strongest Librarian, and founder of a "popular blog" on books and weight lifting." So, I suppose he is a weightlifting librarian too. He is still at the Salt Lake City Public Library and is a professional speaker. [3]

In writing this post, I really got into it and found that there are two wrestlers out there who compete using a librarian gimmick! Oft-cosplayer and streamer, Leva Bates, joined the women's roster of an elite wrestling company as "The Librarian" in 2019, an idea that wrestler Cody Rhodes came up with and proposed to her as an idea, saying she chose the gimmick for fun and that it fits her personality. She competes with Peter Avalon, a Cuban-American wrestler, who debuted in the same wrestling company, with both wrestling each other who is the "librarian," playing off one another. Avalon called it something "silly" and saying that the character needs good writing, seeming to retire from doing the gimmick sometime this year. Its a bit funny even as Bates gimmick is a bit stereotypical in its portrayal, as she uses books as weapons and comically shushes opponents during matches, even though some have grumbled that "nobody" cares about her character and snarled it is "not an interesting gimmick." On the other hand, Bates has used her librarian gimmick to ask people to sign up for library cards at the East Orange Public Library, and has recommended comics in the middle of matches. [4] In addition to this, there is a now-defunct blog by Dante Namibia named Wrestling with Dewey which tries to combine wrestling and a "fledgling career as a school librarian," a fictional character named Benjamin Cole, part of a fictional wrestling company, who was a librarian and is now a wrestler.

As one librarian, Siobhan, put it on Twitter, "every time someone expresses surprise to meet a cat-averse, weightlifting, comic book-reading, NIN-listening librarian, it’s sure sign they have never met an actual librarian. I clearly need to get a tattoo to complete the set." I have to agree with this sentiment and the fact there are weightlifting librarians out there is pretty cool if you ask me. As Jon Michaud wrote in 2013, there is an inaccurate image of a librarian in popular culture, a "petite, humorless woman...dressed in dowdy clothes, spectacles on her face, [and] hair knotted in a bun." A weightlifting librarian, or a wrestler-librarian in the case of this Totally Spies! episode, blows that completely out of the water, without question.

You were what most people called a behemoth.

A thick woman with muscle on an athletic build instead of thick hips. Your shoulders were broad, strong and could carry the weight of the world.

And often times it did.

It used to bother you that you were not as femme as other girls. As cutesy and petite until one day you came to the realization that you'd never look like the women on the front of magazines.

And that was a o fucking kay. And everyday since then you fought with yourself and your self image.

Because bitch you were a queen.

And being a confident cut throat queen added to your muscular stature had most *boys* avoiding you like the plague.

But that was fine because you were looking for a M! A! N!

Although you didn't know you'd find him so soon and in such an odd package.

It took one deadly smirk aimed at you for you to fall head over heels.

And it took one knockout punch for him.

Depsite the mutual feelings the two of you only ever interact or text to spar. You too worried that you're reading into his excitement too much. Thoroughly convinced he only sees you as a bro he can actually go all out with.

While he is too fucking oblivious to even realize he had feelings for you. Paying you compliments and even bragging on you in class with simple songs of praises such as "Tch. Y/LN would break your puney fucking arm in a wrestling match Kirishima!"

The doting ash blonde would eye you then, smiling proudly daring anyone to test your strength.

And double daring anyone to comment on that powerfully beautiful body of yours.

If he heard a single off colored comment or joke about you, whether you were there to defend yourself or not he would step in. Hands popping with unkempt rage as a shit eating grin erupted on his kissable lips.

The thought of him defending your honor had your cheeks burning with blush as you waltz through the thick doors of the gym, exactly where Kirishima said you could find him. Silently thankful that he is wearing headphones with music loud enough that he does not hear the door shut as you spy his damp, sculpted back pull his body upward as he counts with barely a grunt.

Well into the upper thousands as your heart flutters, body heating to the point that your kneecaps melt. Struggling to stand you turn on your heel, losing the nerve to tell him goodbye although you will only be gone for a short month. Still you wonder if you should send a text, thumbs hovering over the lit keyboard debating if he would even want to read a stupid message from a lousy extra like you.

And it wasn't like you'd get a reply while you were gone and even if you did where you were going your phone would be no better than a glorified iPod touch with the lack of signal out in bumfuck nowhereville.

You decide against it sliding your phone into your leggings pocket as you tighten the straps on your book bag setting out for what will hopefully push you in the right direction.

Camp is hard as you knew it would be. You were training with the best strength oriented quirk pro heros in the game! Sending you through grueling obstacle courses with semi truck tires and endless pits of sand and mud.

Not to mention you were pushed to the point of puking more often than not. Still you somehow made friends in between the exhausting training and gnarly cafeteria food. Laughing, helping one another and even exchanging numbers with promises to text when a mythical bar of service was found.

Cool water drips form your hair as you plop down on the bottom bunk with a sigh, your bed mate pokes her head out to look down at you. Meanwhile you stare at the last text your friend Mina had sent you for the umpteenth time this week. A photo of you and Bakugo sharing a rare laugh during training both of your cheeks flushed and hair clinging to sweating foreheads over a joke long forgotten. But the feeling would never fade.

You damn her silently for being so sneaky and sneaky enough to catch both you AND Bakugo off guard.

"You've been sighing like you're s/o is away at war!" She chides, "So who are you staring at?"

This gains the attention of the other two girls in the bunks across the way, eyes gleaming at the thought of sharing crushes. Heat flushes your skin bright pink as you attempt to lock your phone but swift hands above snatch it from your normally steely grip.

"Oh." Is all she says as she looks closely at the photo, Bakugo shirtless with, dripping with sweat and wearing his best smile as you're three quarters to the camera cheesing hard as hell.

"Well shit I'd be sighing too. Your man is hot as hell! Does he train with you?"

"A..ah he's um not.." Fear grips your windpipe as you try not to sound creepy as fuck for looking at a picture of what is only your classmate. You clear your throat, "We're just sparring partners."

"What?!" She zooms in on his face before showing it to the other girls and yourself as best she can out of your reach, "My sparring partner never smiles. Make him your man!"

"I'm not his type, Kimi!" You rush out, embarrassment having you cover your face. Shit you'd never be his type.

You couldn't imagine anything more than a petite fiery or even just plain shy girl who wore dresses and heels. A woman with all the right curves that would dangle from his arm as he showed her off. Not some brute who could practically snap any man in half.

Your heart sinks into your gut, tears threatening to spill.

"Then what's his type?" She asks dryly above you. Mind racing as you think of how Bakugo looks at the opposite sex, hell even the same sex in your class and you come up with the same face each time. He wears his ever agitated snarl and that's if he even glances their way. Scarlet eyes narrowed into slits save when the look at you. They are narrowed only from the effects of his upturned lips.

"I reckon he ain't got a type then?" She says staring down at you from over her mattress. You avoid eye contact as you speak.

"I...I just can't see him with me. I'm all bulky and burly like." You flex your banded arms for emphasis before pointing at your bunk mate above, "While you're more toned and that of a fitness magazine model."

"So what? So fucking what! Haven't you seen me oogling you all week? Or the other women who would kill to have your gains! We see it sis, we see it and stan it. You carry muscle where most women DREAM to!" She jumps from the top bunk lifting your shirt up to your sports bra," Abs bitch, you've got washboard abs! Meanwhile my stomach can barely become flat. And your back! Ugh don't get me started how you're stronger than super girl with that toned back and beautifully rounded ass. Why are you selling yourself short?"

Your lack of answer is met with a harsh slap on your stomach before the timed lights in the cabin die out.

"The first thing I want you to text me about is how you asked that hottie blonde out." She threatens before jumping to the top bunk like an agile cat.

The month ends with tight hugs and a long ride home. You welcome the scenery of the winding roads and mountains as the train speeds past, muscles screaming from the month before.

And stomach growling wanting nothing more than a home cooked meal. If you did the math right on the chore wheel. You'd be coming back to Katsuki's cooking. You slip in and out of conciousness dreaming of spicy grilled chicken.

A surprise waits for you as you get off at your stop for the train. The platform crowded with familar bodies of class 3A

as you dismount from the steps.

"WELCOME HOME Y/N!" They shout in unison as Mina and Urarka rush in for a hug. You pull away laughing before your eyes scan for a blonde and when they come up empty your stomach twists for a moment. Mina pulls your thoughts away as slips her pink arms through yours guiding you towards the exit of the train station. She fills you in on the things you'd missed that fun summer month.

Swimming, fireworks, watermelon.

All activities that they planned to do again of course, espeically now that you were back. Not to mention her now boyfriend, Kirishima who, always the gentleman, took your bags to carry on your soon to be journey down six blocks back to UA, to home.

Still you wish Bakugo would have come to greet you too, you pull out your phone for a moment. Ready to text Kimi how you were gonna be forever alone, instead you lock your phone angrily shoving it into your bag.

With each step closer towards the dorms your body becomes heavier, weighted down with your mood drop that you brush off as "I'm just tired Mina-chan" endlessly until you reach the dorms.

The class floods into the their third year dorms as the smell of food wafts over your senses, causing mixed feelings to fist fight in your stomach.

"I'm just gonna get some sparring in before dinner." You smile at Mina, as you head out clad in your ever present athleisure wear, short black shorts and a tanktop.

The outdoor punching bag takes the brunt of your anger, of your disappointment and mostly your own self loathing over being upset over your training buddy not coming to greet you.

Still it stings to know he didn't even bother to show up. Hell he didn't even greet you at the damn door to the dorms!

Arching your fist you slam it into the bag that bursts open as the chain snaps, soaring into the treeline behind the dorms. You huff, back turned before your stomach growls, begging to be fed.

You collect yourself as you hear the sliding door to the living room open.

"Oi! Y/N!" His voice comes out biting as he approaches. You look to the source damning your heart for fluttering at just the sight of him. You notice his skull shirt seems a bit tighter than when you last saw him, muscled arms flexing as he keeps his calloused hands in his pockets. Harsh eyes look you up and down. Roving over your body making you feel naked beneath their intensity as he silently assess your thick frame. Scarlet lingering on exposed soft thighs that he may or may not imagine himself between sometimes. It took the entire month of his "sparring" partner gone to realize she may have been more than just that.

He fights the blush on his cheeks before a devilish grin overtakes his normal snarl.

"Atta girl, coming back stronger than ever. Bet you kicked some ass at camp huh?" His praises has your heart soaring as your body moves on it's own. Anger melting into warmth as you scoop up the muscled man into a bone crushing hug, giggling as you swing him in a circle. That is before you realize your giddy action could make him seem weak, something Bakugo loathes. You set him down with several rushed "Sorry"s before he grips your wrist tightly. Eyes boring into yours as he struggles to keep his breathing even.

"No I should be the one who's sorry." He growls.

"For what?" He answers as he pulls you closer to him until your lips crash into his. Hands roving up your toned arms before strong fingers pull at the hair at the nape of your neck deepening the kiss while you turn into putty in popping hands. After a few moments he breaks free, looking over your stunning features.

"For not fucking doing that sooner. For not fucking realizing that I admire more than just your strength." He looks away slipping his hand into yours as he pulls you back to the dorms, "Come on! I didn't make my girl's favorite just so it could get cold damn it!"

He drags you into the house as you watch after him before you snap a photo sending it to Kimi with a caption underneath.

"He beat me to the punch."

these are dramas I’ve watched. favorites in no particular order (except Goblin, it’s my favorite.) I tried not to put too much into the details because I didn’t want to spoil anything but yeah. I’ve seen quite a few now so why not.

* Goblin (Guardian: the Lonely and Great God)

buckle up because you’ve got a tired goblin, a socially inept grim reaper, and ghost seeing high schoolers that become housemates and your best friends.

if you’re not new to the Kdrama world then you’ve definitely heard or seen this drama and how fucking great it is. whether it’s the stellar cast or the beautiful soundtrack, it didn’t get its reputation for nothing.

it’s got romance, bromance, lots of humor, past and present collisions, the ability to make you depressed, and Gong Yoo.

Hush - Linde Lindh (the OTS is so beautiful)

what more could you want?

* Healer

do you like spy or spy-esque genres? Ji Chang Wook? a dash of betrayal? then I’ve got the drama for you!

an errand boy for hire gets put in a sticky situation that involves a girl that he just can’t seem to shake, their past, and some politics that really put his identity in jeopardy.

it’s a lot of storylines that really tie together well in the end.

when you hold me tight - Yael Meyer

bad boy is actually soft and soft girl don’t take shit.

* The Legend of the Blue Sea

another fantasy that includes the past and present, but with MERMAIDS.

a mermaid who’s just trying to get this boy, but can’t exactly function well in society since she was in the ocean her whole life.

and a con artist who just can’t seem let her go.

the secondary cast are great and I love them.

this drama is hilarious, like first episode you’re gonna laugh within the first 10 min. it’s probably my second favorite.

it’s got TWO umbrella scenes AND a claw machine.

crying may happen so bring a plastic bag.

* Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

another favorite.

your main girl is a weightlifting, independent woman who don’t need no man but boy does she like him.

and your main guy is a swimmer with PTSD and he’s such a sweet BOI

the trio is so funny I wanted to die.

sets high standards for your boyfriend so watch out.

sheds light on mental health and eating disorders.

no bad blood really, just really wholesome x1.

* Fight My Way

four friends just trying to follow their dreams even tho they’re tight on money.

leading lady is so fed up, just wants to be an announcer.

leading boy is not far behind her, lowkey misses being a fighter.

my favorite drama with Park Seo Joon.

the aeygo is strong with this one.

really wholesome x2, you’ll love it.

* What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?

she just wants to live her own life, that’s what.

she’s been his secretary for like 9 years and just wants to be done with it.

the whole brooding, egotistical boss thing kinda turned me off but you gotta give it a chance.

another Park Seo Joon (I watched this before watching Fight My Way and lemme tell you, the whiplash was real)

the side romances are great

it was pretty decent, also the first drama I ever watched (thank you YouTube algorithm)

instead of egotistical boss, you get a prick instead (I’m still salty about it okay)

they were friends, lost touch. and now they’re back together but get this, she ain’t who he thinks she is.

and he’s her boss on top of that.

main lead is so pretty (she IS pretty) she’s just so optimistic and empathetic.

second lead syndrome so tread carefully.

and then he’s not also what he seems.

wish it had more about the main guy because he was just so interesting (read the webtoon cause it’s actually really good)

also has a movie with some of the same cast (I watched it right after finishing the drama and it’s not as in depth obviously but the ending is better)

I have never yelled at a drama more than this one, jesus it was a ride.

a soldier and doctor hit it off but then their moral views conflict with their romantic interest.

honestly, growing up, natasha was a huge inspiration for me. i’m sure that other girls can say the same. I’d never seen such a badass woman before, ever. And she didn’t act like she had to earn it, she wasn’t some heavy set weightlifting girl (which there’s nothing wrong with) but she was someone like me. 

(she was also my bisexual awakening but) she made me realize that women could be valued, could be badass and still be smart and respected. I genuinely truly love her, and I feel like we just gloss over her as a character?

She’s been through so much shit. She’s an orphan, and she’s The Black Widow, literally one of the most infamous assassins in the world. She’s brave, and fucking noble as hell too. It makes me mad that we often gloss over the fact that Natasha was the one in AoU who suggested they save the general population, but stay on the floating island, as the morally right thing to do. Do you realize how hard that must’ve been for her to do? How much that goes against everything she’s ever been taught? 

She was taught to stay alive, at all costs, at the expense innocent lives, at the expense of whoever got in her fucking way. 

Do you know what it means that she genuinely suggested, not Steve, Natasha, suggested that they should stay there, willing to die just because it was the morally right way to go?

It’s not an act of self-sacrifice like Tony in Avengers, or Steve. It is a purely moral decision, and we completely like to gloss over that? 

Also, in Avengers. “You’re a spy, not a soldier, and you want to go to war?” “I’ve got red in my ledger. I’d like to wipe it out.” 

natasha is literally JUST as moral as Steve, and yet??? is that ever mentioned by fucking anyone??? nope. 

And Tony is the futurist, and yes, that’s true, but you know what we also like to forget? 

“nothing lasts forever.” 

“Staying together is more important than how we stay together.”

“we have what we have when we have it.”

Natasha is easily the most perceptive. She sees the future, she sees the possible outcomes. She understands the fragility of human relationships. She’s smart. 

And she’s kind. Honestly, I can only remember Natasha asking Tony if he’s okay. No one else. 

You ever think about why she’s so interested in finding Steve a date? Because she knows what it is to be alone. She knows what it is to feel lost, and in Steve’s time, romance, a girlfriend, that was your happiness. She wants him to be happy, she cares. 

She’s genuinely badass, and smart, and loyal, and kind, and introspective.

She considers her actions in the world. She thinks about them, and her contributions to what she deems “evil.” 

God. She was made into a weapon, not a human. She wasn’t a person. She didn’t dislike, or like, she wasn’t human. 

More deadly than a gun, and smarter than a computer.

The most deadly Black Widow.

A Battle for The Truth

Who: Santana, @ellnaturae @joephilim and Jesús! Location: Undique Stadium Time: 2 March 2019 Summary: Santana wants to annoy people and mock angels so she brings Joe to fight but encounters other people she knows there so obs they all gotta fight each other.  Triggers/Notes: Violence, shooting, guns. Also I didn’t copied the map thingie while it was happening sorry guys I won’t make the same mistake twice.. . . 

Santana was walking around campus, really really pissed off. Not wanting to admit the awful truth that was crawling to her. Ryder is coming back. We are going to do the ritual. Then it's all over. She didn't want to think of the alternative. The monster investigation was fun. But she needed any other thing before falling into a complete despair. Then she saw it. A sign from God. The angel. "Baby!" She calls Joe when she saw him. "Come with me! I have good deeds waiting for you... unless you are..." She put that mocking voice you make for babies or tiny pups. "Scared?"

Joe is not lost. Angels don't get lost. Everything else is simply out of place. This is familiar, but at the same time, it isn't, like maybe the color was different, or--He turns towards a familiar voice, and is not relieved when it's Santana Lopez, the one who escaped death because of his letter. "I'm not scared of any good deeds. That's--what's waiting for me?" he asks, looking around for a lost soul needing shoes, or maybe a bruise that needs healing.

Elliott enjoys going to the gym to keep his body active though sometimes he feels really bad about those guys who actually are there to gain muscles and see him literally lifting several weights at the same time, just a moment ago one dude almost walks into a wall because he was looking at him in disbelief. It is also a nice place to flirt with cute guys, he is not gonna lie, maybe the lifting surprise some of them who would look at him in surprise, but he also attracts other looks for different reasons. He leaves the lifts behind and goes to one of the running machines, unaware of any other conversation anyone he knows is having right now with other people in other place.

Santana kicks out the gym door dramatically like the place is hers. "Run, joey, run!" She demands like it's super urgent and live or dead, until she pass some guys lifting weights. She notices Elliott there, so she sends him a whisper illusion. "Want to see how the Gayest Queen kicks some angel's ass?" She goes to the first empty training room she encounters. One of those with water on a side for water witches. Maybe she could throw the angel on the little pool. That would be fun.

Joe runs like it's super urgent, past the weightlifting guys, and past Santana Lopez, until he almost runs into a wall. Catching his breath, he discreetly looks around to find the good deed he was promised. Until he catches sight of Santana, and casually strolls over. "Sorry, what am I looking for?"

Elliott let's out a small high pitched scream when he suddenly hears a disembodied voice near his ear, "fuck me" he says realizing is Santana, a guy passes by and winks at him "but also fuck me..." he chuckles but then decides to follow the voice and meet with his friend "So are you guys fighting?" he says when he finds the pair standing next to each other.

Santana grins. And points at herself. "My my, little cherubin... I just wanted to know. If you are really the messenger of God... he wouldn't had make you weak, wouldn't he?" She says, making appear her Soul Armament, the gunshield. "I want to check if you are strong enought to survive." She says, aidming at him. "Get ready, you li-" She gets interrupted. A fish jumps in the pool. A swordfish. "Oh no. No. Not you."

The swordfish jumps outside the water, to the gym floor. It jumps more on the floor, fish out of water not breathing well style. Until the fish polymorphs, becoming a standing human man. With wet clothes. He looks very happy to see people. "Mist!" Jesús says, opening his arms, like he was waiting for anyone to hug him. "And friends! What a joyous coincidence to find you here! Hello pals! Folks call me Jesús. Nice to met you!" He says, looking at Joe. "And nice to see you again, buddy!" He says, looking at Elliott. "Are we reunited here to duel... with our wits? I'll love to join let's go!" He barely breathes or pauses between sentences.

Joe narrows his eyes, swallowing back a retort about how he's not weak. "Yeah, you're right. He wouldn't ha--whoa." A huge fish jumps out of the water, and it feels like a sign--probably a sign that he's right. When the fish turns into a human and opens his arms, Joe cracks a smile and approaches him with a hug. "Jesús!" Joe says. "Like the prophet." This is definitely a sign, he thinks, as he shakes off some excess water. "A battle? For the truth?"

Elliott observes the scene in confusion, maybe he should have followed that guy who wanted to fuck "Erm... that's a dramatic entrance" he chuckles "nice to see you again" he says to Jesús, he then looks at Santana "So? Four way training?" he asks her.

Joe notices the demon and inwardly cringes, because I did not forget to react to that crucial bit of information.

Santana wanted to cancel the fight. But then maybe Jesús would just annoy her to dead. "You...you couldn't possibly know I was going to come here! Not even I knew!" And there he was. Hugging the angel. This was going all kinds of wrong. She just wanted to humilliate someone, why everything had to ruin her plans? "There is no fo-" 

Jesús interrupts her. "FOUR WAY TRAINING! We are going to have SO much fun together and you're going to be so happy queniquerrashacerningúnritualdespuésdeesto." No pause. All excited. His sentences just gets faster and faster. "A BATTLE FOR THE TRUTH!" He announces, on a dramatic, deep voice. "What gets broken when its not being held?" He asks, and big smiley flowers appear from the floor. They look like they had been designed by a 3 year old girl and then that 3 year old girl payed 5 dollars to a 2 year old girl to make the 3d versions of them.

Joe jumps a little, but tries to play it cool by rolling his shoulders. There's a riddle, and flowers that smile at him, and he's so confused. "Our trust in the Lord?" Joe answers the riddle.

Elliott looks at the flowers thinking they are sort of cute, he has no idea what the riddle means "Broken when its not held? What the fuck?" he asks loudly inadvertedly answering his own question.

Santana slips with the watery floor and the flower jump scare, and hits her Perfect and Flawless butt into the floor. "Ugh! Your illusions suck ass! See how it's really done!" She says, making a real scary fucked up realistic giant plant, full of thorns going to attack Jesús.

Joe takes a step back, inadvertently towards the demon, when suddenly there's an angry thorny plant attacking the nice guy with the prophet name. "Is this really a battle for the truth??" An edge slips into his voice, and there is one thing he can think will provide comfort; a tiny orchid mantis. "Hi," he greets him.

Elliott can barely react when he sees Santana attacking Jesús, he shrugs and summons Ziggy, it was always better to work with her and there was something they have been meaning to try together for a while,, he is about to move and join the training when Joe steps back and he bumps into him.

Elliott trips and Ziggy goes flying at the other side of the room, barely hitting Jesús.

Jesús hears Joe's answer. "No, pal! Wrong answer! But it was a good try! I'm sure you can figure it out!" He conforts him. "Is not the frick either!!" He shouts to Elliott. "You can do it! I can give hints too!" Jesús gets distracted by Santana's attack. "That's a really good illusion, Mist! I'm proud of you!" He says, and hugs the cutest snake flying to him. "Oh my, you are the cutest thing." He whispers, wide eyed, to the snake, and gently puts her in the ground. "You're beautiful. But I don't know if you can swim." He says, and lets himself fall into the water, turning again into a swordfish. He moves faster swimming.

The three flowers merge into a giant one. "Y҉O҉U҉ H҉A҉V҉E҉ T҉O҉ S҉O҉L҉V҉E҉ T҉H҉E҉ R҉I҉D҉D҉L҉E҉" An unreal, mechanical voice sounds. It tries to  pats Santana's head.

Fiyero shouts "ZIGGY IS SUPER CUTE!" from the distance. Nobody saw him.

Ari agrees quietly before slipping off into his spy cat life.

Joe is really confused about everything that's happening. There are flowers, and snakes, and fish, and all he can think to do is send Yesh to attack the flowers patting Santana Lopez on the head.

Elliott teleports next to Ziggy, maybe they could join forces against the flower.

Santana shouts "I'm not going to play your ridiculous riddle games!! And the answer is obvious and super easy!" She says, shooting illusion bullets to the water where Jesús is. "Daisy help me out!"

Jesús as a fish, jumps and throws really fake illusory bubbles to Santana. They have hands and smily faces and they try to hug her. He makes an illusion of his own voice, because he can't talk in fish. "C'mon pals! The answer is a noun. It starts with a P!" He goes back to the water and moves away from Elliott, really fast.

The flower tries to give a clue to encourage riddle solving. I҉ W҉I҉L҉L҉ E҉X҉P҉L҉O҉T҉E҉ S҉O҉O҉N҉ I҉F҉ Y҉O҉U҉ D҉O҉N҉'T҉ S҉O҉L҉V҉E҉ M҉E҉ The illusory sound is so loud and distorsed it can hurt ears.

Elliott takes Ziggy in his hands, he takes a deep breathe, he is a little nervous to practice this tecnique, the soul armament, but he is also excited, the snake starts disolving in dark smoke and she slowly becomes a long chain, the links look rusty, with intense orange and yellow tones coloring the metal. Elliott grabs the chain strongly, and he runs toward the flower, he takes a little jump for impulse and throws one of the ends of the chain towards it, as it hits the flower, Elliott teleports and with the other end that is still on his hand appears on the other side of the flower, surrounding it with the chain, but he miss calculates and falls to the water.

Joe watches, wide-eyed, as the demon disappears from next to him and appears in a different spot. How can he do that? How? He bites the inside of his cheek and starts trying to think about the riddle. Something with a P that breaks when it's not held... "Pan?" he asks, knowing that Jesús speaks Spanish with that weird run-on sentence about rituals. Bread can be very crumbly, right? Santana Lopez seems to not be at full health. He doesn't entirely trust her, or at all, really, but at least she's not in the water and attacking him? "May the Lord Bless you," he says, reaching out with his hand to put it on her shoulder.

The flower illusions dissapears, losing all its strength with the last chain attack.

Jesús as a fish, gets surprised  to find a friend in the water, so he turns into his human form, just his head above the water. "Woah you're so fast, buddy! Wanna enjoy a swim?" He shouts very loudly outside "It's not a pan! The answer was A PROMISE!" He said, looking at Santana, like it should mean something. "But let's go for another riddle! If I have it, I shouldn't share it, because if I share it, I won't have it. What is it?" He says, and another illusion appears. Is a tiny cartoony hunter man. Very fake and very unreal. He appears in the same place as the flower was.

Tiny Hunter Man moves on his own spot. "Fast fast! Said the answers before this bomb explotes!! You have one!" Says the little man, showing a sandwich with a countdown.

Santana is super angry. "Shut up with your riddles you fishface! And stop turning into that gross thing!! This is not the fish market!" She shouts, feeling like... in better heal for some reason. She laughs, noticing. "My my! The Lord Bless me? Of course!" She aims at Jesús with her gun, hoping not to fail.

Joe panics when Jesús sends over another illusion, and tries to swat away the sandwich-bomb, with Yesh pecking at it like the nice snack a sandwich is, regretting blessing Santana Lopez when she pulls out a gun. “ARE YOU ALLOWED TO DO THAT??” He asks her, still shell-shocked from the disappearing demon. “An object!” Joe shouts confidently as the answer to the riddle. @Joe Hart 22/22 👼🏼 Yeshaya L2:  1d6 + 1d6 level 2 familiar attack = (3)+(5) = 8

 1d15 Tiny mans counter attack to Jow = (9) = 9

Tiny Hunter Man jumps and screams at Joe, while showing signs of a flashing and annoying bad illusion. "NOT AN OBJECT! THINK DEEPER OR BOOM!"

Elliott thinks harder "aaaah..." he starts thinking "Is it a promise again?" he is still in the water, he moves his arms a little to keep a float, and then tries to hit the new illusion with his chain again.

Elliott splashes the water annoyed.   

Jesús gets out of the pool, still all clothes wet. "Aw, aren't we having fun! I'm having so much fun! Being with friends, solving riddles, not having to change anything about ourselves, not hurting anyone on the process wOAH! Isn't it so great? Who would want to lose all that am I right? But let's go for the next riddle! You can swallow me, but I can consume you too. What a-"

Santana interrupts him. "Pride." She is too annoyed already. "Ha, promises, secrets and pride." She says, coldly. "I'm not having fun. In fact, I think you are really boring." She tells her fake uncle. "Now, Elliott, my my, you got some new moves! Those are really cool, I hope to train more agaisnt them someday" She says, starting to ignore Jesús and focusing on the rest. "And you cherubin, what a cutie, healing and being scared of a little gun shield. Aw, adorable. Santana will kick your ass other day." She says, blowing a kiss to them and getting out of the room before exploting on everything going on, but still putting a bitchy smile on her face. "Bye bye!"

Joe is actually sort of flattered when he’s called cute. Even though he is not a cherub. “Um, goodbye?” He looks at Jesús, and then at the demon. “This school is...” confusing, “interesting.” Yesh flies back into his pocket, and Joe gives him a soft brush. “I’ll, um, be here if you need me. May the Lord forgive us.”

Elliott, still in the water, looks at Santana as she goes "Would be a pleasure" he smirks in response. Then gets out of the pool as Ziggy goes back to her snake form. All his clothes are wet. He waves at Jesús "Was nice too see you, I'm sorry I'm bad at riddles" he chuckles, he then looks at Joe and goes pass him without directing any words to the angel.

Juno Steel Fluff Week Prompt 2 - Found Family

“There is no way I am going to climb up a six-foot-high wall!” Juno Steel yelled at Sasha Wire and Mick Mercury, both of whom were already sitting on top of the wall. Well, Mick was sitting, Sasha had already gotten tired of waiting for him and was cartwheeling along the wall. Juno watched her in fear, afraid she was going to fall.

“Not with that attitude you’re not.” Juno yelped as a strong pair of arms lifted him up him up and into the waiting arms of Mick and Sasha.

“Benten!” Juno yelled as his brother left him dangling in his friends’ arms, neither of them strong enough to lift him all the way up by themselves. Benzaiten Steel quickly scaled the wall and effortlessly lifted Juno up, he was far stronger than any nine-year-old should be. “Can you at least warn me next time?”

“It’s not my fault that you were too scared to do it.” Ben nudged Juno slightly and he crouched down, afraid he would fall. Ben laughed.

“What?” Mick said, confused. “Juno wasn’t scared, he was just waiting at the bottom to catch us it one of us fell, right Jay?” Mick slowly rose to his feet, unsure of himself on top of the narrow platform.

“And anyway, Ben did warn you,” Sasha interrupted before Juno or Ben could respond, “back at the house Ben told you that if you were going to be a wimp he was going to drag you along anyway.” She had begun rocking back and forwards on her feet, anxious to leave already.

“It’s true, I was there.”

“No, you weren’t Mick,” Sasha replied.

“Oh, really?” Mick looked taken aback. “Okay, it must be true then because that sounds so much like Ben that I could believe I was there.”

“That doesn’t make any sense, Mick,” Juno replied.

“Who cares?” Ben yelled over them. “Let’s go!” He started sprinting along the top of the wall, Sasha soon gave chase. The pair of them moved quickly and confidently away from Juno and Mick, who were slowing shuffling after them, both afraid to fall.

The group continued on like that, running along walls and climbing fences until they reached the outside of a factory. The Roewade textile factory was the tallest building within walking distance of their homes. It was one of their favourite places to sneak off to but they didn’t risk it very often. The factory ran all night and if they were ever caught by security they would be arrested for trespassing. Usually, they played it (relatively) safe and explored abandoned buildings, but tonight was a special occasion.

Juno broke the lock on the window and the kids clambered inside. Ben and Sasha ran ahead to check for security because they were the quietest runners. When they signalled it was clear, Juno and Mick followed them. They worked their way through the factory until they reached the roof. They had wedged the door open with a piece of metal the first time they came here, years ago, and no-one had ever closed it. No-one ever came up to the roof, except for them.

“So,” Ben pulled off the giant backpack he was carrying, “who wants to go first?”

“Me! Me!” Mick grabbed the bag off of Ben. “I want to go first!” He nearly yelled. It didn’t matter anymore, nobody would hear them now. He reached into the bag and pulled out a box, about twice the size of his hand, and turned towards Sasha. “I got you an important gadget for when you’re a super spy.” He handed her the box. She opened it and smiled when she saw what was inside. Before Juno or Ben could ask what it was she put on the pair of black sunglasses Mick had given her.

“How do I look?” She asked.

“Juno, we better run,” Ben grabbed Juno’s arm, “this Dark Matters agent must be here to arrest us!”

“What about me?” Mick yelled at him.

“There’s no time, Mercury,” Juno replied. “You’ll just have to sacrifice yourself to save me and Ben,” he smiled, “buy us some time!” Sasha laughed and took the glasses off.

“Thank you, Mick,” Sasha said. Mick blushed, unused to someone saying something to him that wasn’t an insult.

“Okay, enough with the sappy stuff.” Juno reached into the bag and pulled out a transparent container. Inside was a small cake that had once read ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY SASH’ (Juno had misjudged how much space the letters would take up) but had been made nearly illegible from being jostled around during their break-in. “Happy birthday, nerd.” He muttered under his breath.

“Juno! There’s no way I can eat all of this cake by myself!” Sasha hugged him.

“Well, Sasha, I could always take some off your hands.” Mick offered.

“Juno doesn’t eat cake, I’ll take his slice!” Ben pushed Juno behind him.

“Hey!” Juno yelled, “I eat cake!”

“Juno’s actually allergic, but he still always tries to eat it even though he knows it’s bad for him”

“No, I’m not!”

“Don’t listen to him!”

“Don’t listen to HIM!” Mick and Sasha were in hysterics over the boys’ argument. Juno and Ben just glared at each other.

Ben gave Sasha his present, it was a book about unsolved murders in Oldtown. It was the kind of book that couldn’t have been written back when physical books were still used, it would have been so big that a champion weightlifter would barely be able to carry it. It would have been nearly impossible for a couple of nine-year-olds to steal it (not that Ben and Juno knew any nine-year-olds who would steal this book).

When Sasha finished opening her presents, the gang started to eat the cake. True to his word, Ben did take Juno’s slice. Juno didn’t mind, after all, he got his revenge by stealing Ben’s slice when he was busy trying to impress Mick by climbing on top of the building’s air vents.

The four of them stayed on that rooftop all night. They fell asleep huddled in a pile, shuddering from the cold, and woke to a Martian sunrise, tinged blue by the domes that covered Hyperion city.

“Guys,” Sasha muttered groggily, “we should probably go to school now.” She nearly fell back asleep mid-sentence.

“What if we just... don’t?” Juno groaned. Mick and Ben muttered in agreement.

“Sounds good to me,” Sasha replied as the group somehow managed to move closer together and hold each other even tighter. They spent hours like that: slipping in and out of consciousness, not saying much, just happy to be together.

Finding a Sentinel

Found this old file on me thought I'd share it with y'all.

Title:  RS-MN-R163/ Finding a Sentinel

Mission Date: July 2, 1952. 0900 hours.

Reporting Agent(s):  Agent Cherub

Involved Agent(s): Agent Cherub. Agent Nephilim.

Casualties:  None

Synopsis:  Dispatched to the the location of the 2nd in South Korea on rumors of a mysterious humanoid object that soldiers claim to be a zombie.

               On July 2 1952, 0900 Agent Nephilim and the reporting agent were sent to investigate rumors of a zombie following the 2nd infantry regiment of the United States Army. Upon arrival we were greeted by a young private who took us to his commanding officer. Once there we were debriefed about the last battle that the regiment had fought in.

               The regiment had lost considerable numbers and lost several officers, including a noted "Weightlifter Walter" who had been in the regiment longer than the commanding officer. That's when these "zombie" sightings started. The private said that the "zombie" looked just like this "Weightlifter Walter" and was always seen around the supplies after lights out, and that several supplies had gone missing.

               Agent Nephilim then decreed that we would stake out the supplies with out consulting the reporting agent or the commanding officer.

                July 2, 1952, 1900 hours. The reporting agent and Agent Nephilim made camp next to tye soldiers tents and waited till nightfall. Upon sighting a figure on the outskirts of camp, a ways away from the supplies, Agent Nephilim went sprinting towads the humanoid figure. The reporting agent chased after them and when she got close to the treeline where the figure was spotted the agent tripped and fell. The reporting agent then felt a sharp pain as a large stick had pierced her leg and had exited out he calve. In able to contain her pain, the reporting agent screamed.

              The reporting agent then herd footsteps from behind and thought it was Agent Nephilim. A hand touched her shoulder and the reporting agent turned to look only to find a strange man who looked to be in his mid-60s/70s who was shirtless, had dog tags, and was covered in days old blood.

               Agent Nephilim then appeared across the way and pointed their gun at the unidentified man. The man just ignored them and asked the reporting agent, "My name is Walter. Are you ok?" The reporting agent asked if the man was the previously reported "Weightlifter Walter". The man said he was and the reporting officer ordered Agent Nephilim to lower their weapon.

               After the reporting agent healed herself she engaged in a short conversation with "Weightlifter Walter" and gathered that he was Officer Walter Vaughn and that he is an immortal like Agent Nephilim, albeit by different means. It was designated that Walter be brought back to the manor for further questioning.

Goldfinger - #24WeeksofBond

We continue our Bond marathon with an absolute banger of a movie - Goldfinger.  When you think of James Bond, this movie might come to mind.  There are so many classic lines, scenes, and characters in this movie that it is really hard to make the case of this film not being one of the best Bond films ever.  In fact, until Goldeneye, this film was the bar when it came to James Bond.  The franchise saw many crests in its lifetime, but unfortunately, it would never reach this level of excellence.  Now a days, we have a few Daniel Craig movies to insert into the “Best James Bond Movie Ever” conversation in Casino Royale, and Skyfall.  This is Sean Connery at his absolute peak.

Honestly, I’m finding some difficulty in unpacking all of this because this film is just so precious that I don’t want to do this blog an injustice of underselling this movie.  This film has a wonderful, easy to follow plot, some cleverly crafted writing, and characters that have lasted forever.  In some ways, this film could be viewed as the Bond film that started Bond as we know it today.  Dr.No, and From Russia With Love hit a few singles for the franchise, but Goldfinger comes to the plate and hits a home run putting the Bond franchise in a very comfortable lead and giving it the momentum it needed to last as long as it has.  If not for Goldfinger, Bond could have only lasted for a few more years.

Sean Connery is hitting on all cylinders here.  He seems to have all the swag and confidence in the world, having played Bond twice now he really seems to have a grasp on this character.  Remember that Connery is the man who made Bond, Bond.  There was no man before him to learn from, only the fictional James Bond you would find in the books.  And for a relatively unknown at the time...that is quite the responsibility to take on a franchise that everyone is expecting to be amazing, when nobody knows who you are.  Well, Sean Connery did and now here he is at the top of his game.

Even starting with the pre-title sequence...a classic scene where Bond enters from the water in a wet suit and lays out some plastic explosives...only to take the wet suit off to reveal a white tuxedo that still has the steam coming off of it from the dry cleaners.  I mean, that’s Bond in a nutshell right there.  After this, we then move into the title sequence that would set a trend for Bond movies for decades - a title song.  Shirley Bassey sets the tone of the film with an intoxicating, and eerie performance of “Goldfinger” that kind of stays in your head for a few hours after hearing it.

The film opens in Miami where Bond is being put up in a high end resort to keep an eye out for a man named Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe).  Apparently Goldfinger has sprung the curiosity of the British Government because of how much gold he is moving around the country.  Bond sees Goldfinger playing Gin Rummy with a guy, and finds his suite to discover that he has been cheating at cards with his paid side-piece Jill Masterson spying on his opponent.  Of course Bond breaks up the party and makes Goldfinger start losing which leads us to lovely Jill Masterson being asphyxiated by gold paint.  Classic scene...however I’m curious about the dig at the Beatles...(Just as bad as listening to the Beatles without ear muffs.). Oddjob must’ve been a Beatles fan which is why he knocks out Bond right after this comment.

After Jill’s death, M puts Bond on the mission to find out all he can about Goldfinger and to figure out what he is up to.  So Bond meets Goldfinger for a relaxing game is golf.  Man oh man do I love this scene.  A classic set up between Bond and villain where villain knows that this ain’t a coincidence so they both start trying to play each other.  Bond whips out his big gold bar and Goldfinger ups the ante to put it on the line, exercising strict rules of golf to give himself an advantage.  Bond expertly switches Goldfinger’s golf balls before the final hole, sealing the victory for Bond.  Just so simplistic, & fun to watch.  I love Bond’s relationship he develops with his caddy.

To spare you the lengthy, scene by scene description of the film, it turns out Goldfinger is trying to set off an atomic bomb in Fort Knox which would drive the value of his gold up by hundreds of thousands of pounds, all the while trying to set this up as a basic bank robbery.  Bond finds out about Goldfinger’s operation while spying on his facility late at night where he will eventually get caught and tied up to a table with a laser slowly moving up to his crotch.  Again, a classic scene where Bond says “You expect me to talk?” to which Goldfinger replies “No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!”.  You just can’t write that any better.

After Bond convinces Goldfinger that he is worth more alive, Bond is tranquilized and later wakes up to the site of one Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman).  She may be more famous by her name, but this is the first time we see a strong women who isn’t just good looks as the leading female.  This will also start the trend of naming female characters as puns.  (Holly Goodhead, Chu Me, Jenny Flex, Xena Onatopp, etc.). Not that that was a crucial part of the Bond franchise, but it definitely became a signature that was eventually smoked out come the Daniel Craig era.

Honor does a fine job here, I wouldn’t say her character is written the best or that her character is given the proper chance to shine, which is why I would say that her performance simply is remembered by her name alone.  Pussy Galore sounds ridiculously vulgar now a days, but back in the 60s it wasn’t.  Her originally name was supposed to be Kitty Galore, but they opted for Pussy Galore, because Kitty Galore was too vulgar...lol.  

What I REALLY love about this film is Oddjob (Harold Sakate).  Oddjob is the quintessential quiet muscle man of a henchman who has a signature weapon in his top hat.  He can frolf with his hat to kill people, basically.  Oddjob was an olympic weightlifter and professional wrestler named Tosh Togo.  He was stout, bulky, and stoic and really made you buy into the threat of his strength and frolfing skills.  This of course comes to a head in the end when Bond is handcuffed to the atomic bomb in the vault with Oddjob and they battle it out.  I love these old fight scenes where the only thing playing in the background is the sound of the bomb timer.  This gives the fight more urgency as it’s an added layer of danger.   

Another classic addition that would influence future Bond films is the Aston Martin car.  Q is unleashed in this film as the over worked and underpaid government worker who makes gadgets, and who doesn’t have time for Bond’s games.  Q tells Bond about his new car and lets him know there is an ejector seat to which Bond says “Ejector seat?  You’re joking!” and Q brilliantly says “I never joke about my work, 007″.  

I mean, everything I am pointing out here is groundwork for the future of the Bond franchise.  The exotic cars, the dangerous henchmen, the women who had jerks for parents in naming them, the theme song, the list goes on and on...Goldfinger, to me, is the bar as far as James Bond films go.  I love this film so much where it was very hard to say that any other Bond film was better.  This easily sits in my top 3 with Goldeneye and Skyfall.

This film would be the third and best film of the Sean Connery era.  Connery would still see success in his films, but tensions between him and the studio execs would start to mount as Connery was fearing the type casting that he might see because of his longevity with the character and getting tired of the grueling schedule. (His first three films came out in three years).  But despite all that, Goldfinger will live on forever as one of the best Bond films in the history of the franchise.

Heartbreaker: Chapter One

Plot: Annabelle Lyre, perfect student has an obvious crush on Alberto Lucia, the devilishly handsome Spanish student in her class. As their fragile relationship grows, she risks everything by writing a secret love letter. When Annabelle starts dropping hints, Alberto picks them up and slowly, their love lives become a complicated twist if past and present. 

A/N: Hi everyone, I know that some of my older writing wasn’t great but I’m back with a much better story idea. This one, Heartbreaker is loosely based on a true story and I hope this will be much more preferable. As always, feedback is appreciated. Enjoy :) 

Dawn and dusk had always been their special times. Annabelle Lyre was a creature of the night. Alberto Lucia was a creature of the day. Dawn and dusk was when they mixed and when they confessed their love.

Her eyes widened in surprise as she noticed him staring at her. Blushing, she looked back at the book in her hands, War And Peace. Annabelle Lyre snuck another glance at Alberto Lucia, the devilishly handsome Spanish student in her class. She mentally went over the notes she'd made for her Science assessment that day and smiled as she stepped into the classroom, taking her place beside Alberto. She ignored the butterflies fluttering in her stomach as she read over the assessment paper, writing her name in impeccable cursive in one corner.

He snuck a glance towards her, his eyes glossing quietly over her hands writing line after line of calligraphy, detailing all sorts of information, anatomy, physiology, lifestyle diseases on the test. He looked over at her watch, a plain old analog clock with a worn deep brown strap that he'd seen a hundred times. His eyes widened as he realised that there were fifteen minutes left and he diverted his eyes to the paper, hurriedly scribbling what he could remember.

Annabelle's eyes glided down the returned sheet, the minimal corrections by the teacher in blood red. She flipped it over, looking for the final mark. Her eyes relaxed and sparkled in joy as she saw the grade. Another A. Sighing contentedly, she slipped the paper into a file and stepped out the door, catching up with her best friend, Kellie on the way to English.

"Hey, what'd you get ?" Kellie asked.

"Eight of eight," Anna replied, smiling secretly at herself. "You ?"

"Six," Kellie sighed. "But I'm satisfied."

"Four," came Alberto's voice. Anna turned her head to see Alberto talking to Adam Herring, his so-called best friend.

"Hello Earthlings," said Nicola Russell coming up behind them. "Kinda weird isn't it ? We all thought that Alberto would be great at science. He's got all these science award and somehow, he sucks at science."

Anna sighed as she over at Alberto, his dark hair gleaming in the winter sunlight.

"It might not be bio. He could be a physics genius for all we know."

"Yeah, sure Ann. And you're the English professor," Kellie said, gesturing to the books in her hands, 'War And Peace', 'The Sound And The Fury', 'Ulysses', 'Les Misérables', 'The Phantom Of The Opera', 'Anna Karenina', 'Infinite Jest' and 'Finnegan's Wake'.

"Naw, Anna's gonna be a weightlifter," said Sophie Phillips. Valerie Freeman gestured at the books. "How heavy is that ? Five kilograms ? Ten ?" she asked.

"Seven," Alberto said, smiling.

"Six actually," Anna replied, trying to keep the blush from her cheeks. Alberto smiled at her and stepped inside. Anna glanced over at him and took her place, once more beside the Spanish boy.

"Hey Anna," Alberto whispered.

"Yeah, what is it ?"

"What's your favourite book ?" Anna sighed and chewed on her lip.

"War And Peace is definitely my favourite. But I also like other Tolstoy novels, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and James Joyce," she said, smiling her secretive smile. "What about you, what's your favourite book ?" Alberto smiled back.

"I love the Alex Rider series," he said, the biggest grin plastered on his face.

"Alex Rider… isn't that the teenage spy ?"

"It is." Anna froze for a second. Social cues had never been her strong suit.

"Oh… um… I've never read Alex Rider," she said. At that moment, Alberto could've sworn that he never turned around faster. "You haven't ?" he whispered in utter shock, his almond eyes bulging out of their sockets. She shook her head. "Never," she mouthed as Ms Kinsey, the English teacher Anna liked and everyone else hated called the register.

Alberto's eyes looked over her once more. Annabelle Lyre really was a strange girl. He watched as her wavy dark hair cascaded down her back, falling over her coffee-coloured skin. He watched as they covered the acne scars on her face, the scars which he knew that she was so self-conscious about. He watched as her eyes glossed over the screen of her computer, alternating between her essay and Tumblr. That was something he admired about her, she was ruthless with work. She worked ridiculously hard. At the same time, she had her own kind of fun. Thinking, writing, reading, dreaming, not really caring about Instagram or Snapchat, popularity or friends or anything like that. All she cared about were her studies and her books. He’d seen her write, he’d read her writing. She was phenomenal, she was another person, another soul, another universe as she wrote. She was her own breed and he loved that about her. Alberto reached out and ran his fingers over her hair, sifting through the wind-cooled strands. Anna's eyes snapped to his with a glare telling him to keep out, telling him that she'd been hurt before and never wanted to be again.
