Small announcement as we all wait patiently for my storytelling bones to revive after summer ended and I’ve gone back to teaching (it’s been dreadful btw, 8th graders are mean).
In between writing my new series coming up, I’ve been going back and rewriting an older series that needed some revamping! This first series is one I loved the concept of, but after reading through it, I was cringing horribly at how cliche and annoying I had written the main character. The story had a good basis, but lord, was I pulling from my limited knowledge of how to make a story intriguing and original.
With all that being said… I’ve gone through and re-wrote it! If you’ve read it in the past and liked it, see what you think on what a more well-seasoned🧂🧅🧄 author can do now ;)
If you haven’t read it yet, it’s ok. I started it again recently and had many epiphanies of my cringey pick-me-girl language I gave my lead… BUT it should be MUCH BETTER now!! And who knows, 3 years from now, I’ll be making it even better. For now, I’m happier with it than before.
I’m hoping to get the first 5 chapters released sometime this weekend after I do a final run-through, but this series should be posted in completion in a week.
Without further ado…. The Protection Program (An adaptation of an original series from 4 years ago.)

I'm tagging those originally on the tag list for this series and any new people on my forever list :)

Sam’s POV
Finally, Dean was able to escape fathers itinerary of women for the evening. I made my way back to the edge of the room and grabbed a drink off a passing silver tray. I couldn’t help but look back and smile as Dean’s shoulders relaxed and relief was visible in his demeanor. Y/n really lit up in Dean’s arms. She had really become a great friend to us both. I kept hope that we could rid y/n of the sentence on her head.
“How could you put that fugitive whore in your mothers gown Sam?” I didn’t have to turn toward him to know my father had sought me out. “Did you think I’d forget it and not take notice?” I clenched my jaw to prevent my first responsive thoughts from exiting my mouth.
“Just put aside who you think she is, dad.”
“Put aside!”
“Look at him, that’s the happiest he’s looked all day. He’s carefree with her. Stop pushing him to make a decision on who will be his wife when there’s absolutely no reason tor him to be forced into this. Let him enjoy the time he has left of just being a prince. You know he’ll step right up and be the soldier king you’ve trained him to be when the time comes.”
His father sighed, “Sam this is beyond your brother having a fling. Arthur Ketch, the ambassador from Malta has also taken notice of her presence. Judging by the look on your face, I’m guessing you know that she’s his wife.”
“Father you can’t send her back with him!”
John held up his hand to silence his son. “He doesn’t wish to return to Malta with her, but she must be retained at the end of the night. She will return to her cell under heavy guard. Have I made myself clear? There is a public warrant for her life to be served a week from today. I suggest you stop playing matchmaker and get some sense into your head. Now not another word.” King John made his way to Robert the head guard and gave him his instructions. Then retired for the night to his bedchamber with his mistress.
———————————-
Reader pov
After bantering with Dean to lighten his mood. I reach up on my tip toes and kiss him on the cheek as I say, “I hope you’ve had a Happier Birthday than it began this morning.” I blush, smiled and continue, “its getting rather late and I should turn in before I’m tempted to have another drink. Goodnight Dean, I hope one of these ladies catches your fancy. Many of them are beautiful, but go dig deeper and find someone you can be friends with.”
I gather my skirts and head to Sam’s bedroom before Dean can respond and I’m tempted any further to tell this kind man how much he deserves to fall in love and marry one of the breathtakingly gorgeous women my heart is so jealous of. I don’t think I could keep pleasantries up for another second. Why couldn’t I have met him six years ago before I resigned that Arthur was the best I could do for my family. After all he’d gambled away my entire dowrey within the first month of marriage and blamed me for everything. My parents benefitted only the ability to say I’d married an ambassador. I avoided him at all costs when he was home from traveling for work. Luckily he had no interest in children and I was merely a guaranteed warm body when he was in town.
Lost in my thoughts of what could’ve been I opened the door to Sam’s room and walked across the rug covered floor to look out the window while I changed into bed clothes. When all of a sudden I felt two hands clasp around my mouth and arms, as I breathed in a sickening smell slowly I felt my vision go black.
Waking up in small cold dark wet metal room. I can only feel where I am. My hands are restrained behind my back and my ankles are bound. It’s hard to breathe and I realize there’s a fabric bag covering my head. I’m terrified. I don’t know for sure who captured me. It could’ve been King John’s men if he figured out who I was, or if he just saw me as a threat to his plan for Dean. It could’ve been Arthur’s doing if he found me. It could’ve been a random attack on the castle and they don’t even know who I am - just that I was a friend of the princes. It could’ve been a family of one of the women suitors wanting to take out any competition for Dean’s hand. So many variables. I couldn’t catch my breath now. My heart was beating as if I’d ran a race. It was too much. I collapsed into darkness. Again.
The next time I awoke, it was to cold water being splashed on my face and upper body. Shivering, I looked around to find out where I was and just who was attempting to drown me in freezing cold water. My continued panic was making me angry. I had to get a grip on myself. That’s when I saw him leaned against a table, holding a bucket.
“Did you really think you’d get away scathe free for making a fool out of me? Who all have you been with in the village? Just how many? Are they paying you? What a waste.”
“What are you talking about, Arthur?”
“You know good and damn well what I’m talking about, whore. It wasn’t hard to convince his majesty, King John, to allow me take you home and deal with your insubordination. When I told him I saw you kiss his eldest son on the very night the prince was supposed to choose a bride nonetheless. What are you getting at? Do you think you can wreck all of Milan by waging war against me?”
“Arthur, please..”
Smack. My head reeled from his backhanded slap. As I held my hands to my temples my fingers were met with a sharp stubble. I gasped as my hands continued to explore the rest of my scalp not finding the soft long locks of hair that should be draped around my shoulders. Horrified, I looked to my captor for answers.
“That’s right, good luck finding someone to take you in now. The entire country will know of your sins upon sight when you’re escorted through the streets to the gallows.” He walked over to a table to pick something up. I couldn’t see what was wadded up in his hands. But I found out with a stinging lash to my slip clothed back.
He’d whipped me within an inch of unconsciousness. I hadn’t stopped shivering since I had woken up. I had no idea how long I’d been locked away. He didn’t provide me with any food or water. Clearly me living to make it to the gallows wasn’t his priority. I’ve never been this exhausted or this cold in my life. It was simply frigid. There was a disconnect. I had no more tears to cry and no voice left from the screams he’d pulled from my body with each new stinging lick of his whip. I was ready for it all to end. I don’t know exactly when, but I had by now accepted my fate.

Wild Hearts (Part 2)
Tumblr media
Summary: Dean steals his father's car to give Y/N a ride home. The next day Y/N tags along to the dunes for sand surfing.
Masterlist
Pairing: AU!Dean x reader
Word Count: 3,771
Warnings: underage, age gap (reader is 16, Dean is 20 but closer to 21), mentions of physical abuse by a parent, past injury (bruising/scars), mentions of death and alcoholism, John is an asshole in this one, underage drinking, angst, language, slow burn, mutual pining, a hint of jealousy, a bit of fluff
A/N: Sand surfing looks really fun. Didn’t think I’d get this finished before the new year. Happy holidays!
_____
Dean grabbed your hand every time the headlights of a car came into view and pulled you off more to the side of the road. Placing himself between you so the car would have to go through him to hit you. The last time he did it you held onto his hand and he didn't let go. Until you came up to a driveway that led to a small ranch style house sitting amongst the evergreens.
You spotted a cherry-condition, black muscle car sitting in the driveway, "No way! Is this your car?"
"Uh- yeah," he smiled, "-I mean, no. It's my dad's but yeah that's what we're taking." He stumbled out his words as if he was nervous.
You trailed your finger up the hood of the car, "Sixty-seven?"
"You know your cars." He smirked.
"My dad used to drag me to every car show he could when I was younger. On those days he did get off work." You said, admiring the freshly waxed black paint. "And as a result, I developed a thing for pre-seventies muscle."
"Baby's the only thing my father has ever loved." Dean said and you frowned, "Aside from my mother. She passed away when Sammy was born."
"Baby?"
"It's what he calls the car."
You nodded. "Who's Sammy?"
"My little brother," he explained with an edge of protectiveness, "He's sixteen, too." He bit the split in his lip until it bled and kicked the front tire with a glare. "He's probably passed out by now," and somehow you knew he was talking about his father again, "But you better wait out here." He said, pushing you off to the side of the house so you blended with the shadows of the trees lining it. "Y/N, if you hear anything... Do not come inside."
Then he turned around and headed for the door, leaving you with a sinking feeling in your gut. The way he spoke about his father, loving four wheels and engine more than his sons. Dean looked pained at the thought and his eyes greener when they glided over his father's Impala.
Then it hit you, his warning. His father wasn't a good man.
You left the shadowed tree line and peered through one of Baby’s windows. Fast food bags littered the front bench seat and a half a bottle of liquor lay on the floor. Your skin started to crawl at the thought of Dean's father coming home half-pissed and taking his day out on his sons. No doubt Dean only stuck around for his little brother. You wondered if Sam had endured the same type of injuries or if Dean always stood between them. Somehow you already knew the answer.
The screen door shut with an audible creak and Dean reappeared on the porch, "Y/N?" He whisper shouted as he scanned the area you were supposed to wait. "Y/N."
"Over here," you matched his tone.
"Got 'em." He jingled the keys for you to see. "Let's push her out onto the street before we start her though." He opened the driver's door, "Here, you steer, I'll push."
"You're not gonna get in trouble, are you?" You hesitated, you didn't think you could bear to see more bruises on him, or worse.
He gave you a cocky smile, "I'm not gonna get caught."
You slid in behind the wheel and shifted into neutral, taking a moment to appreciate Baby's beauty despite the mess of trash in the front seat. Meanwhile Dean ran around to the bumper and started pushing the car down the driveway. You braked when you got to the edge of the street, throwing open the door and letting Dean take over as you slid over to the passenger side.
The car grinded to a stop as he pulled up in front of your house. It was a beautiful car but the whole ride felt like a tin can rolling over bumps in the road and the muffler rattled against the undercarriage the entire time. His father didn’t seem like the type to put his time or money into anything that couldn’t give back to him. Which apparently included keeping up maintenance on Baby.
"For someone who's supposed to love this car," you flicked a used ketchup packet onto the floor and wiped your sticky fingers on your jeans, "He's shit at taking care of it."
"Imagine if he didn't love her." Dean's eyes were lost on the dashboard, deep in some solitary thought. "He didn't deserve her and he doesn't deserve this car." For a moment you thought he must've been talking about his mother. You wondered if the abuse started before or after her passing. You didn't ask. "Are you busy tomorrow?"
"Um."
"It's fine if you didn't mean it. About being my friend. But I was gonna go sand surfing and I thought that might be something you'd like to do. Something friends do." He shrugged. "I-I'm not trying to be creepy. Just friends."
"I don't think you're creepy," you shook your head and met his sad smile, "I'd love to go, sand surfing? What is that?"
He laughed, "It's like snowboarding but down a sand dune. It's easy, I'll teach you. Fall's the best time for it because the sand won't burn you."
"That sounds fun."
"Good, I'll pick you up," he said and then added, "My friend's driving. There'll be others there too, but they're not like your brother's friends."
"I don't like my brother's friends."
"These are good people," he smiled, the bruised part of his face hidden in the shadows of the car and you almost forgot about it. He had a nice smile, he didn't show too many teeth or too much gums. "I'll give you my number, in case you decide to cancel."
You laughed silently but let him enter his phone number into your cell. Then you texted him so he'd have yours, too.
"Thanks for the ride, Dean." You reached over and gave him a quick side hug. He didn't even have a chance to react but stared at the dash again and nodded when you pulled away. "Text me when you get home or I'll worry."
"You don't have to worry about me, Y/N, I'm not a child." He said cordially.
He'd obviously picked up on you putting the pieces of his home life together, his injuries, his father, how much he was risking by stealing Baby tonight. Dean was tall and built enough to protect himself, but nobody should stand alone and clearly his father was still bigger and stronger.
"People worry about you in every stage of life, Dean. At least they should. I will." He looked over at you and matched your frown.
"But you only just met me."
His words echoed in your ears well after you showered and crawled into bed. Dean brought about so many feelings in you that you didn't know which to follow. You felt butterflies, and mutual affection like you'd known each other longer than you did, and an untethered desire to protect him, which was absurd because although he was skinny, he could toss you over his shoulder and spin you around if he wanted to. His bruises and scars made you feel helpless, but his smile made you happy because you could tell he felt lighter, too.
You checked your phone and found a message from him.
Dean: Mission impossible accomplished. See you tomorrow.
Y/N: Thanks for texting. Goodnight, Dean.
Dean: Night, Y/N.
You'd be lying if you said you weren't developing a crush. You sighed and rolled over in bed. What could you do, nothing. He'd get into a lot more trouble than you.
Sleep did not come easy after that and you woke up before you thought you'd even fallen asleep. You groaned and rolled over in bed when you heard your phone buzz.
Dean: Good morning, Y/N.
Y/N: Geez, you wake up early. What time is it?
Dean: You're literally looking at your phone.
Y/N: Omg! It's 6am, what is wrong with you?!
Dean: You know the saying, early bird...
Y/N: The sun isn't even awake yet, Dean.
Dean: You're grumpy in the morning.
Dean: Just wanted to let you know we'll pick you up around noon.
Dean: Y/N? You still wanna come, right?
Y/N: Yeah! Sorry, I'm tired.
Dean: Awesome. Just one question before you pass out on me. Benny's bringing a grill, so we're making hotdogs for lunch. You're not a vegetarian are you?
Y/N: Yeah...
Y/N: I'm joking. No, I'm not.
Dean: Good, our friendship might've ended right there.
Dean: Just kidding. Go back to sleep.
You smiled at your phone a little too long before you locked it and went back to sleep for a few hours.
"Hey, sweetie. You're awake early." Your mother said when you walked into the kitchen around ten. It was early compared to your typical Sunday morning. "Have fun last night?"
You nodded, not wanting to get into the events of your brother or his friends from the bonfire. Your mom seemed to accept the answer and you assumed your brother made it home at some point without her noticing the hour.
You got along with your parents well enough. You never really got into any trouble and you weren’t sure they even knew how to ground you if you did. Besides, your dad wasn’t around much lately, it seemed his new promotion kept him at the office longer than necessary. Which was where he was now. On a Sunday, at ten A.M.
You didn't know what you wanted to do when you grew up, but you knew you wanted to have balance in your life. Something you thought your dad didn't understand. You couldn't remember the last time he brought you to a car show, you couldn't remember the last time you'd asked him to bring you either.
"Your dad said he'd be home for dinner and your brother probably won't be up until mid-afternoon. What time did you two get in last night?" She asked, sipping on her coffee.
You didn't have a curfew because you never had the need for one and your parents oddly trusted you. You didn't do crazy shit to make them worry about you but sometimes you wanted to, if only just for the attention. So you knew she was just curious when she asked.
"I dunno," you shrugged, not wanting to get into why you didn't know and that you didn't come home with your brother. "I'm going out with some friends for lunch."
"That sounds fun," you weren't sure if she was even listening anymore or just saying that.
Your family had gotten better at not actually listening to each other lately. But you ignored that fact yourself and grabbed a bowl of cereal for breakfast.
At eleven-thirty, you threw on a pair of high-rise jeans and an oversized t-shirt that you knotted at the waist. You also pulled on a flannel shirt in case it got chilly which was the way the weather was turning lately. Then you texted Dean.
Y/N: Text when you get here, I'll come out and meet you.
You wanted to avoid an awkward interaction with your mother. Especially since your brother was awake now and slamming the kitchen cupboards. He wouldn't really care but he was nosey and would start something if he saw how much older Dean was. And you doubted a few hours would've helped much with the bruising on his face. That wouldn't be fair to make Dean explain how he'd got them to complete strangers. Especially since you were pretty sure you knew how he'd gotten them.
Dean: We're here.
You shouted a 'Bye' as you ran out of the house, hearing your brother ask your mom where you were headed before the door slammed shut behind you. You shoved your phone into your back pocket and ran down the driveway to where a red Jeep waited. Dean stood outside, leaning against the door.
He smiled when he saw you run up, "Hey."
"Hi." You said, noticing his face falling, "What's wrong?"
"I feel like we're sneaking around," he glanced back at your house as if he expected someone to come running out after you. "Feels wrong."
"I just didn't want you to have to deal with the inevitable questions about, you know," you pointed to the left side of his face. "But if you want I can introduce you before we go... Or you could come over Friday for family dinner and give that a little more time to heal."
He stared at you for half a second then shoved his hands in his pockets, "Family dinner sounds nice."
"Great, I'll set it up tonight!" You smiled brightly and touched his arm, "Feel better?"
He swallowed and nodded and you heard someone shout impatiently from inside the Jeep. Dean opened the backdoor for you and climbed in after you. You sat in the middle next to a guy with black hair and blue eyes who looked about the same age as Dean.
"Hey, I'm Cas." The guy greeted you as you settled in.
As soon as the door was closed the Jeep pulled out onto the road with a bounce from a pothole the tire hit.
A small brunette in the middle front seat turned around and waved, "I'm Ruby, Sam's girlfriend," she pointed to a lanky guy with long brown hair next to her who offered you a smile.
They looked about the same age as you, at least you knew Sam was. You noticed right away Sam didn't have any bruises or obvious scars. You felt a bit proud of Dean for that and also a little sorry that he didn't have someone like himself to have his back.
"That's Benny," Dean said, pointing to the guy driving. "Benny say ‘Hi’."
"Hi." He glanced in the rearview mirror.
"He's quiet until you get to know him." Dean explained.
Benny, by far, looked the oldest of the bunch. Maybe it was because he hadn't shaved in a couple of days or maybe it was because he was built like a linebacker. But either way he didn't seem to like you. It was just a vibe you got in the split second your eyes connected. It practically radiated off him and you wondered if you were the only one picking up on it.
"So, Y/N, how come I never see you at school?" Ruby asked, spinning around in her seat to face you completely and bumping into Benny who growled. Maybe it wasn't just you. "You're not home schooled are you?"
"No, I go to one near my dad's work." You explained quickly, not really wanting to talk about school.
"Where does your dad work?" Sam asked this time.
“At Sandover Bridge and Iron. He’s the Director of Sales and Marketing.” You bounced your eyebrows. Really all that means is he’s barely around anymore.
"That's cool," he said, shifting his eyes to Dean for a second.
"Oh," Ruby’s brown eyes widened for a second and you knew what she was thinking.
"Yeah."
"Am I missing something?" Dean asked, glancing between the two of you.
"It’s a private school." You explained and it seemed to dawn on him. "What are you smirking at?"
"You have to wear a uniform, don't you?" He smiled so wide the split in his lip threatened to pull again.
"If you must know, yes, and it is the bane of my existence." You rolled your eyes dramatically to make your point.
"So, like a plaid skirt with those long socks?"
"Careful, Dean. We're friends, remember?" You whispered to him and he opened his mouth to respond, but then snapped it shut and turned to stare out the window.
Ruby pouted, resting her chin on the back of the seat, "That's too bad. You could've sat with us at lunch and I would've shown you around. Dean says you're new."
"Yeah," you sighed. That would've been nice to know someone in school. You had begged your parents to let you go to a public school this time, but they insisted. "Too bad."
Dean had gotten really quiet and you nudged him with your elbow. He turned to smile and swallow thickly before turning a cold-shoulder and staring out the window again. You had only been teasing, but you didn't want him getting any ideas that would only result in him getting in trouble.
"How do you guys know Dean?" You asked, directing the question at Cas since Benny didn't seem to be much of a talker.
"We grew up together. Well, me and Dean did." Cas explained, "Benny just kind of showed up one day and we couldn't get rid of him." Benny growled and Cas winked in the rearview mirror. "He really is a teddy bear once you get to know him."
Once you got to the beach Benny didn't park in the parking lot, instead he drove out onto the beach and down the shore for a long time until you were surrounded by only dunes of sand. It would've taken forever to walk there. He parked at the top of the dunes and everyone filtered out of the Jeep. The guys grabbed the boards from the trunk and Benny got to setting up his grill. You guessed he wasn't really into sand surfing.
Dean said he was going to teach how to surf, but he was already halfway down the dune with Cas when you looked. And Sam and Ruby were flirting as they carried their boards over to join them and you didn't feel like third wheeling it today, so you hung back with Benny.
"Need a hand?" Your voice was softer than you'd like it to be but you found him intimidating, even if he wasn't nearly as tall as Dean or Sam who was a moose at sixteen and probably still growing.
"Thought you came for that," he pointed at the dune where the others had run off to and you saw a couple extra boards stuck in the sand at the top. But you still didn't know how to surf, never even been snowboarding. And those surfboards looked a lot more like snowboards. You'd hurt yourself for sure without knowing how to turn or stop. "I hope you know what you're doing with him."
Your eyes snapped back to Benny's and you squinted, "Excuse me."
He raised his hands and his eyebrows, "His home life is... undesirable. I know you know what I mean. Last thing he needs is your parents on top of his own."
You didn't think your parents would bat an eye at Dean. Mainly because they were wrapped up in their own lives and didn’t pay you much attention. But if they did notice, you wondered if they would dislike Dean enough to turn what you have with him into something wrong and indecent. You'd like to think they wouldn't because it wasn't. But it's a parent's job to be protective of their child.
"We're just friends."
"Not the way he looks at you." Benny cocked his head and started setting up the foldable stand for the grill. "He's not thinking when he's around you. And don't get me wrong, I like seeing him happy, he's been there for me more times than I can count, but- Do you have any idea what his father would've done if he knew Dean took that car out last night. If that's the way he looks after spilling paint in the garage..." You didn't know what to say and opened your mouth like a fish out of water before he continued. "Dean's never done anything like that before. I'm just asking you to be careful with him. He has two years left and then he and Sam can get the hell out of there."
"Why two years?" That's all you could manage to ask.
"Dean's tried to get custody of Sam since he turned eighteen but the lawyers always tell him the same thing. He's too young himself, with no steady income and no decent living quarters. Going through courts takes time and money and Sam would likely age out before that time." He explained as you fiddled with the knot in your t-shirt.
"How'd you know about the car?"
"I live next door, I helped him push it back up the driveway so his father wouldn't wake up and hear the engine."
"I'm sorry, I didn't know. I mean, I kind of knew but I guess I believed him when he said it would be fine." You watched your shoes and tried to still your bottom lip. "Just so you know, I'm not trying to cause him any more pain. We just kind of connected last night and I like him. I'm not gonna do anything that'll get him in trouble though. I promise."
"Kid, I'm not worried about you doing the dumb shit. I'm worried about him." He scratched his slight beard. "It's not fair to ask you to think for the both of you."
"It's not fair to ask me to not be his friend either."
"I couldn't ask that of you."
You kind of missed quiet Benny and the afternoon was starting to feel a lot like last night with your brother's friends. You wiped a tear threatening to fall down your cheek when you were sure Benny wasn't looking; everyone else taking a second run down the dune after climbing back up. You stood around and kicked at the sand until you could feel grains in your shoe.
"Hey, cher, can you grab me the hotdogs from the cooler?" Benny asked and nodded towards the cooler next to the Jeep.
You didn't bother digging around and just brought him the whole cooler. He split open the pack of hotdogs and started grilling. Then pulled a can of beer from the cooler and opened it. He handed it to you and grabbed his own. You wondered if you actually had to drink it, but he clearly saw that you were upset and it was a peace offering of sorts. So you took a sip.
The fifth sip wasn't so bad and the seventh went down even easier. But it still tasted gross and you still didn't see the point. Maybe just a little warmth in your cheeks.
Sam and Ruby were the first to run back over when Benny rang the dinner bell. Followed by Cas and Dean. Dean eyed the beer can in your hand and you took another sip before you grabbed a hotdog and walked away.

Dean pocketed his keys and grabbed his coffee off the roof of the impala. Sam was already halfway to the studio entrance sipping on his green smoothie and all together being the energetic morning person that he annoyingly was. They had been at it until after midnight, but were back before their usual ten o’clock start time. Dean knew it’d be another grueling day, but at least he was just working out the final few songs and not screaming himself hoarse in the box again. Yet.
Dean followed Sam inside Trust No One Studios, a rundown building off the highway that wouldn’t look like much if the owner wasn’t a paranoid security stickler. The parking lot and the entrances were all covered by cameras. They fobbed their way into the main entrance and nodded at the day guard, Ronald, who waved them through the metal detectors. He was a fan, but had kept a lid on it since Sam had snapped on him during their third album.
“Thanks, Ronnie,” Dean muttered, voice still raw.
“Good luck in there,” Ronald replied, but only to Dean.
Sam rolled his eyes and huffed off down the hall towards the basement steps. Dean trailed after his brother and bandmate to the largest recording room Frank had to offer. The Leviathan Level held two studios, but they were going deeper, to the bottom level, dubbed Purgatory, and its nearly grade-school-auditorium’s worth of space.
They meet another guard at the bottom of the steps, but just flashed their lanyards at him to continue on toward Ash’s domain.
Ash had been engineering their sound since the beginning. In fact, Dean wasn’t sure he had any other legit sources of income besides whatever residuals he earned off their soon-to-be five albums. But he wasn’t about to ask him either. Ash was a weird dude, wicked smart, but weird.
The control room still smelled vaguely of pot when they entered, but no one cared. Sam walked straight through to the door to the main part of the studio to start his warm ups. Dean dropped into one of the chairs at the dials and finished his coffee. He knuckled one eye as he watched the clock on the wall, wondering who would be the next to arrive. He didn’t want to call Lee and wake his ass up to get back to it, but he would if the rest of the band weren’t ready to play by ten.
As he toyed with the lip of his gas station coffee cup lid, Dean’s phone buzzed with an incoming text to one of the many group chats the band had. The name ‘Trouble’ was Dean’s hint that it was actually work talk.
>>>Don’t forget to take pictures! Or I’ll come down there and get them myself.
Which was a blatant bluff on your part and Dean knew it. Frank and Ronnie both gave you the creeps. Plus, you liked to hear the finished product in its entirety, which he kind of loved about you.
<<<Not it
Dean replied before anyone else and repocketed his phone unwilling to figure out just who would be getting the candids for your next social media blitz. He had too much to worry about as it was. He pulled out his notebook he kept in his back pocket with song ideas. The bridge to ‘Pushing Through’ was giving him problems and he wanted to rework the lyrics a bit.
This had been a hard album, both in getting the band to come together and make it happen and how much he was pouring into each song. Without Cas, Dean’s whole process was off and instead of asking the new kid or, hell, even Sam for help, he decided he needed to write most of it single handedly. Call it penance or a martyr complex, Dean had made his bed and he was going to lie in it.
Late night phone calls and hours on the road
My worst mistake wasn’t fightin’
It was having all this guilt that never showed
When you said I was getting frightenin’
I just pushed through
Late night phone calls and hours on the road
My worst mistake wasn’t fightin’
It was holding back this love I never told
Then I see your eyes filled with lightin’
You pushed me through (strike through)
You pulled me through
Dean didn’t realize Kevin had come in until he heard the keyboard join in on Sam’s scales. He looked back at what he’d adjusted and hummed to himself. This wasn’t a song he’d have written even two years ago. It was a fuckin’ love song for one and it put the spotlight on the last year and a half of his mistakes. He almost didn’t want to ruin it by putting it out there for the world to see. But they needed twelve and it was the closest to finished he had.
For the band and this deadline, Dean could be brave.
Pamela strolled in and slumped against Dean’s shoulders, somewhere between a hug and using him as a pillow. He chuckled and patted her head as he flipped to the next song on his list.
“Where’s your husband?” Dean asked off-handedly, knowing Lee couldn’t be far.
“Ex-husband,” Pamela grumbled.
“Sure.” Dean honestly couldn’t keep track anymore. Pam and Lee had been married to each other at least twice and shared one kid, two houses and three dogs between them.
“He’s dropping Gibson off at his mom’s, nanny needed a day off,” Pamela explained and Dean could feel the glare she was giving him.
“Well, isn’t that nice of you.” Dean gave her a fake smile.
“I know. A thoughtful employer— in this economy?” Pamela snarked and picked up Dean's coffee, frustrated when she found it empty. “Ugh! Okay, well, I’m gonna go stretch— maybe I can talk that brother of yours into some yoga before we get going.”
“You are such a creeper.”
“Sammy’s a big boy, Dean.”
“I don’t want to know.”
Pamela shook her head and slinked off to join Kevin and Sam.
“Take some pictures— cuz I aint!”
Pamela glanced back at Dean and winked while pressing an imaginary shutter button. Dean stood suddenly and chased her into the live room until she squealed and hid behind Sam. Her tiny frame dwarfed behind Sam’s, Dean relented, smiling genuinely for the first time that day.
Dean grabbed his acoustic and strummed, pacing around as he muttered his amended lyrics under his breath. Lee and Bobby made it in just after ten. Luckily, Sam and Pam already had enough of their bending competition, which kept Lee from getting pissy about it. Just as Dean and Lee were going over the chord progressions on ‘Rupture’, Ash strolled into the control room and started hooting into the intercom that it’s time to roll.
“Fucking finally,” Dean grunted and ducked out of his strap. They did things as they came, but bass and drums always were put down first, so he, Lee and Kevin hung back until they were needed.
“Alright, ya idjits. Show me what ya got,” Bobby ordered from his seat beside Ash.
So they did.
Tumblr media
Lunch showed up just after two. And, naturally, Dean devoured his sub as quickly as he could, which was when Pamela decided to remember to take pictures for their socials.
Dean rolled his eyes and licked his lips, chewing as the lettuce and mayo collected at the corners. If his hands weren’t full, she would have gotten the bird, but priorities, you know?
“Gross,” Sam replied, laughing.
“Don’t worry, grumpy, I’ll get your good side too,” Pamela teased.
“I’m sure you will,” Sam muttered and cracked open his bottle of water.
Lee balled up his napkin and threw it across the table at Kevin who apparently had been still snapping pictures. “Save it for the session, newbie,” he grunted.
Dean glanced across the room to where Ash and Bobby were talking, both more serious than the last few hours justified. He met Bobby’s eye and held it, knowing he’d find out sooner or later what had the old man extra bristled.
They finished their food and relaxed for another few minutes; they had a good handle on the tracks they were working out. But that still meant hours more until they were tight and Ash had everything he wanted. Even then, Dean made them do more takes, just to be sure. He was a perfectionist, like his father before him, and Phantom Traveler had gotten to where they were with that driving force leading the way.
Sam was the one to rein Dean in. “Look, man, that was it. We had it three rounds ago. I’m beat.”
“Ash?” Dean called back into the control room, not willing to be outvoted without certainty.
“It’s all gravy on my end, Dean-o.”
“Pam?” Dean asked his drummer and part-time mindreader.
“Kevin and Sam can clear out, I think we can hit that intro harder.”
Dean looked at Lee, who sighed, because he knew Pam was right and Dean was just letting her be the bad guy.
“Alright, from the top!” Dean called out and Pamela quickly counted them in.
Sam and Kevin stayed to listen, sipping water and slumped into any free space they could find behind their gear. Sam was stuck, Dean was always his ride. But the kid could duck out whenever he wanted. The fact that Kevin stayed solidified Dean’s faith that he was going to work out. Without Cas, it had been weird. Well, first it was awful, but now that they were here, back making music, what they did best, it was an adjustment.
But Kevin had stepped up and Dean couldn’t deny he was grateful.
No one could fill Cas’ place in the band. But the kid had good hands and on top of that he sang, filling out their harmonies with a higher range. Something Cas never did. So, yeah, it was still weird. But if Dean had learned anything living in California, it was that weird didn’t mean bad.
They tackled the intro until Dean was sick of it. And Lee and Pam both were giving him the stink eye. One final check in with Bobby and Ash and Dean released them for the night.
“Alright, I don’t want to see your faces until Monday at ten,” Bobby explained. “Take the weekend off. Be stupid, but save your voices and your fingers.”
“Awww, he really does care,” Dean snarked, throwing a ball cap over his sweat-damp hair.
Bobby glared. “You’re no good to me sounding like my great aunt Ethel, jackass.”
Kevin laughed and everyone held their breath, impressed and surprised by him openly mocking Dean. But Lee couldn’t hold it in and started laughing too. And by the time Ash and Sam were in on it, Dean was crossing his arms and murdering them all with a look. Pam slinked her arm over his shoulders and patted his back condescendingly.
“I hate you all,” Dean muttered. Eventually he dropped the dramatics before looking over at Sam. “Let’s get outta here already.”
“Yeah, already,” Sam agreed, shaking his head and following Dean back out to the parking lot.

She Thought She was Normal
So, this isn't my first fanfic, but it's one I've been working on for over four months now. It is the first one I'm sharing with more than just my family though, something I've never done before. It does have 28 chapters so far, and it isn't finished yet. I'm always up for suggestions and constructive feedback, either in comments or DMs.
Please don't take my work. I'll post warnings for each chapter. Will eventually be 18+!
Story Summary: Maria really thought she was normal, for most of her life. It was normal for people to have natural talent, she would tell herself the older she got. Many things came easy for her, and that was probably how their rivalry began when she was five and he was seven and she met the Winchesters. Little did either of them know that it wouldn't stay like that forever, both having a far larger destiny than they could imagine.
Word Count: 4054
Warnings: Trauma - Family Death, First meetings, childhood rivalry
-----------------------------------------
Chapter 1 - In The Beginning
She woke up screaming in the passenger seat of her dad's truck, it was dark, and her father was driving them to her Uncle's. The nightmare was still clinging to her vision.
“You okay, munchkin?” her father asked.
“Yeah, Daddy, just a nightmare,” she answered, trying to catch her breath.
Her mother had just been killed by a yellow-eyed demon in their home and now, they were just trying to get somewhere safe to deal with the grief.
Maria was five, her parents were hunters, and her mother was dead due to the demon that had been after Maria. She had deep, dark blue eyes and jet-black hair that went down to the middle of her back, the birth signifiers of the Winter lineage. Her father was a Men of Letters, she was a Legacy, even if she didn't fully understand what that meant yet. She was also something else. She'd heard her father on the phone once, talking to Bobby, and the word Nephilim had been said, although she was too young to know what that meant.
There was silence for a while on the drive, as she didn't want to have nightmares again, “Do you think mamma went to heaven?” she asked her father quietly, curiously.
He sighed, “I hope so munchkin.”
His words didn't help her feel better, but even with being five, she understood that there was no guarantee where her mother had ended up. She stayed awake for another hour before sleep retook her; this time, there were no nightmares.
Bobby had been up for hours, setting up the guest room the best he could for her after William had called him explaining what happened. He was on his fifth drink when he heard Williams's truck pull up in front, it now being three in the morning. William carried her inside as Bobby held the door open.
“Guest room is all set up,” Bobby sighed as he closed the door.
William nodded as he carried her there, tucking her in under the covers, and then kissed her on the forehead. He then closed the door behind him and joined Bobby in the living room, sitting on the couch.
Bobby handed him a drink, “You're going after it, aren't you?”
William sighed, “Wouldn't you?”
“You should talk to John, he's after the same demon, might have some information that could help,” Bobby offered.
William sighed before downing his drink, “I haven't talked to him in a couple years now.”
“You're hunting the same thing, Will,” he replied, glancing towards the hallway to where Maria was sleeping, “How's she doing?”
“About how you'd expect,” William replied, “Can you keep up her training and education for while I'm gone? It'll be at least a couple weeks.”
“Yeah,” Bobby sighed.
William only stayed for another ten minutes before he headed out. Bobby felt bad for both of them and he hid his grief for the loss of Alarra, Maria's mother, and William's wife. Hell, Bobby had introduced Will to his sister, Alarra, so many years ago. He didn't go back to sleep that morning after Will had left. Instead, he read over the journal that Will had left for him. It contained Maria's training and education, as well as an outline of what Will and Alarra had wanted to teach her and when. Bobby sighed as he read through it, especially when he noticed the entry from a week before where her powers had begun to manifest. There were only a select few who knew what Maria was, Bobby, John, and Ellen being the main three since Ellen and Alarra had been like sisters.
Maria woke up a few hours later, still in her clothes from the night before, finding Bobby sitting at his desk reading a book.
“Hi…” she mumbled, rubbing her eyes.
“Mornin kid, how you doing?” he asked, looking up from his book.
She sat down on the couch, staring at the floor, and shrugged her shoulders, “Mom's gone…. It's weird, knowing that…” she replied, feeling disconnected from everything at the moment.
“You want some breakfast?” he asked, not wanting to push her if she didn't want to talk about it.
“Did Dad leave my bag?” she asked, ignoring his question.
Bobby sighed, even at five she seemed stubborn, but also needing routine, “Yeah. It's on the kitchen table.”
“Thank you,” she replied before getting up.
Her parents had gotten her into a routine and she was well-behaved for being five. She grabbed the bag off the table and went back to her room, closing the door behind her. She did her few morning stretches and exercises, as her parents had taught her, and even went over the movements with the silver knife her parents had given her. Maria pulled out a fresh pair of clothes and changed, putting her dirty clothes in a bag before stuffing that bag into her duffle. Then she proceeded to brush her hair, fighting with the memories of her mother teaching her how a year ago. She then slipped on the headband before cleaning her brush and putting it away. After a deep breath, she slipped her shoes back on before heading into the kitchen. Bobby was already there, making her some eggs and toast, with some bacon on the side. She sat down at the table and waited patiently, just watching him cook. She'd met her Uncle before and both her parents had spoken highly of him. She wished that this meeting was under better circumstances.
“Thank you, Uncle Bobby,” she told him kindly.
“You're welcome, kid,” he replied, then sighed.
He wasn't sure if it was the fact that she was a girl, a Nephilim, or how Will and Alarra had raised her as to how well-behaved she was. He'd figured she'd be emotionally broken after losing her mother the day before, but for now, she seemed numb to everything, at least to him. He finished her breakfast and set it in front of her before heading back to his desk, needing to do some research for a friend who'd called him two days prior. She ate her breakfast in silence. The eggs were plain, as Bobby hadn't seasoned them with anything, and the toast was close to being burnt, but she didn't say a word about it, being grateful for a home-cooked meal and not something from a gas station. She thought about how she could talk to him about it since she had a feeling her father hadn't said anything. When she was done eating she scooted the chair over to the sink and washed her dishes, then cleaned up. Maria went and brushed her teeth before joining Bobby in the living room.
“Thank you for breakfast, Uncle Bobby. What was the lesson on Dad's list for today?” she asked him, not ready to give in to the grief she was still pushing away.
He sighed before he sat back in his chair, “Demonology and then practicing cursive.”
“Will you be quizzing me after?” she asked.
“Well, I agreed to this, so yeah, I'll quiz you after,” he replied.
“Thank you again, Uncle Bobby,” she replied, getting up to retrieve the book from her bag, along with her cursive journal, which she had just begun a few days prior.
She seated herself at the kitchen table, setting her journal to her right with the Demonology book opened in front of her on the table. She read for two hours before she worked for thirty minutes on her cursive. Afterward, handing the book and journal to Bobby, and then sat down on the couch. He nodded his head while he looked over her cursive and almost couldn't believe she was only five, then had to remind himself that she was also a Nephilim or something close to that. He looked over what she had read and quizzed her on it. Even when he deliberately tried to trip her up, she was respectful when she corrected him and then gave him the right answer, which he couldn't help but smile proudly at her.
She took her books back to her room, putting them away before she practiced the moves her father had taught her, helping to increase her muscle memory. She also added to it a bit with the moves her father had recently shown her. Maria still didn't want to stop though, not wanting that pause to where her memories might begin to replay in her mind. She didn't want to see it, to hear the screams, feel the pain of her loss. She slipped out of her room and grabbed the closest book she could without her Uncle seeing her as he was focused on his own research. She sat on her bed and read, for what felt like hours before there was a knock on her door. She slipped the book under her pillow before he opened the door.
“Lunchtime kid,” Bobby told her as he opened her door, “There's a sandwich on the table. After lunch, we're gonna take a trip for some food for while you're here.”
“Okay Uncle Bobby, and thank you,” she replied, following him out of her room.
Maria ate the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, not happy that it was strawberry, but ate it anyway. She cleaned her dishes before grabbing her jacket and following her Uncle out to his car. Halfway through the ride, she finally broke the silence.
“So, do you have a list?” she asked, looking over at him.
“It's in my head,” he told her.
She wasn't quite sure what to say or how to ask about what he was getting without sounding rude or intrusive so she just looked out the windshield. Bobby wasn't entirely sure how to interact with her as he never had kids of his own. He parked near the front of the store and the two of them got out of the car. She walked over to him as he came around the tail end of the car, reaching out to hold his hand. It startled him, but he just smiled down at her. She let go of his hand when they reached the front of the store as he grabbed a cart. As they walked through the store, she watched him put things in the cart, making a mental note of the items.
“Uncle Bobby, would it be okay to get some grape jam?” she asked, curiously.
He thought for a moment and glanced at the items he'd already had, “Sure. Is there anything else specific you'd like?” he asked her.
He figured asking might help her be able to be more comfortable while she was staying with him. She smiled up at him and made sure to only ask for things she knew she was allowed to have, knowing her father would ask her about everything when he returned. When they made it to the checkout and loaded everything on the counter he glanced at the candy bars.
“Would you like something sweet? You did really good today,” he told her with a soft smile.
For a moment, his words surprised her, as she didn't realize there was another way to behave when in public, but looked over at the candy, “This one, I guess,” she replied, handing him a Reese's package that contained two of the chocolate and peanut butter cups.
Bobby smiled down at her as he put the candy with the other items but asked the cashier to leave it out, as he wanted her to be able to eat it in the car.
“Bobby? Bobby Singer? Is that you?” a female voice behind them asked, causing them both to turn around and look at her.
“Sheriff Mills. Good to see you, this is my niece, Maria,” he told her as the two shook hands.
Maria looked between the two of them for a moment before feeling comfortable enough to say anything, “Nice to meet you, ma'am.”
Her manners and respect surprised Jody, “Hi there. It's nice to meet you as well. How old are you?” she asked in a soft, kind tone.
“I'm five,” she replied.
“Well, you're a very sweet little girl for only being five,” she replied kindly to Maria.
Maria smiled a little but tuned out the rest of their conversation, not wanting to hear what might get brought up. She instead went over and helped put the groceries in the cart again once they were bagged, again, impressing Jody.
“Everything okay with Will and Alarra?” Jody asked Bobby.
He sighed, glanced at Maria, and then back at Jody, “Alarra was killed last night, in a bad accident. Will had to leave to deal with the legalities of everything,” he explained.
“That poor girl,” Jody whispered, watching her put another bag in the cart, “How long is she staying with you?”
“Should only be a couple weeks but you never know how long these things take,” Bobby answered. He had to keep the demon part out of the conversation. Jody didn’t know about any of that stuff, and he wanted to keep it that way.
“Well, I’m here, if you need any advice on anything,” she told him with a soft smile.
“Thanks, Sherrif. I might take you up on that,” he chuckled.
Bobby bid her goodbye, and the two went back to his house, eating the candy bar her Uncle had gotten her on the drive. When they got back, Maria helped bring in the groceries and put away what she could reach. He double-checked the schedule her father had left but she was already grabbing her books from her bag so she could work on the afternoon work.
The next two weeks were like this. She kept to her schedule, sneaking books from her Uncle's collection and making sure they got put back where she'd found them, her Uncle never the wiser. It was a Wednesday of the third week while she was sitting at the table, working on her cursive when she heard her father's truck pull up in the driveway, but she also heard another vehicle. She was supposed to sit there for another ten minutes but her curiosity and happiness got the better of her. She set down her pencil and headed outside, running over to her father who was halfway to the door, wrapping her arms around him.
“Daddy!” she exclaimed.
“Hey munchkin,” he said, smiling as he picked her up, spinning her around, making her laugh.
He set her down, and she had to catch herself due to being a bit dizzy, but she was still laughing as an adult man, and two boys, one who looked older and one who looked younger than her, walked up. William took her hand and led her inside as she looked over her shoulder at the three of them for a moment, then turned around to watch where she was going.
“Finish your cursive and we'll do introductions,” William told her before he went into the living room with Bobby, the three others following him.
She did notice the two boys looking over at her as she sat back down at the table, picking up her pencil to do as her father had said. That ten minutes felt like forever to her. She hadn't felt like she didn't want to do her schooling before, not like she was now. When she did finish, she took a deep breath before grabbing her books and taking them to her Uncle, as he had been the one who'd been doing her schooling. He quizzed her on her reading as the others stayed silent, listening. He even tried tripping her up, to which she respectfully corrected him and gave him the right answers. He looked over her cursive and smiled at how she was progressing. She smiled happily and put her books away before returning to the living room.
“Maria, this is John Winchester and his boys, Dean and Sam,” William told her.
“It's nice to meet you, Sir,” she said to John, utterly respectful, “And you as well, Dean and Sam.”
John, as well as the boys, were impressed with her respect, “It's nice to meet you as well, Maria,” John told her with a proud smile, “Why don't the three of you go be kids outside for a bit, and keep an eye on Sam.”
She knew the adults wanted to talk about something that probably had to do with her mother, so she just nodded and headed outside, Dean and Sam following. Maria took note of how Dean took his younger brother's hand and walked at his pace, so she slowed down to walk at his pace. There was some awkward silence between Dean and Maria for a bit when she finally said something once they were further out in the scrap yard.
“Are you learning how to hunt too?” she asked, nonchalantly.
The question surprised Dean a bit, but he decided to act cool, “Yeah, what of it?”
“Just curious,” she replied, tilting her head slightly.
Dean wasn't sure what to think for this girl. She wasn't like any other girl he'd met before, as she was the first hunter's daughter he'd met. Maria went over to Sam, who was three, and began playing with him, getting him to laugh, a lot, an infectious, playful laughter. All Dean could do was watch her and how she interacted with his younger brother, in a way he couldn't. He may have been seven, but something about this girl intrigued him. It was clear she was being trained to be a hunter; she was respectful, but she hadn't stopped finding ways to bring laughter to people, at least to his brother, even with what had happened to her mother only two and a half weeks prior.
After a bit, Dean got an idea, “Hey, bet I could throw a rock further than you,” he said, a slightly competitive tone in his words.
She looked over at him, raising an eyebrow from where she crouched in front of Sam, “Bet you I could not only throw further but also hit my target.”
Dean kept the confident expression, but he began second-guessing himself, seeing her confidence, “You're on.”
Dean picked a car that was around a hundred feet away and put an X on the side of the door. She smirked, “Your challenge, you go first,” she told him, turned to the side, gesturing to the car, still keeping her eye on Sam.
He swallowed, hard as he picked up a rock from the ground, testing its weight as he tossed it in the air a couple of times before he took aim and threw it at the car, hitting the far side of the X he'd drawn, which made him smirk. She just chuckled, then went and picked up the same rock he had used. When she got back to where he was standing, she noticed his puzzled look.
“Well, this way you can't blame it on the rock,” she told him with quite the sass and a smirk to match before she turned and chucked the rock, hitting the X dead center. She knew there were things she could say, but he father had taught her better than to gloat, “Maybe next time we see each other, we can do this again,” she smiled kindly.
Dean was practically speechless. There were too many things about this girl that surprised him, and being seven, all he could do was punch her in the shoulder, which only made her laugh a little before she went back to playing with Sam, leaving Dean to his thoughts.
About an hour later, John came out and told them to come inside. Maria took Sam's hand and led him back into the house, Dean following behind them. John smiled seeing the sight, silently calling William and Bobby over to see it as well. The three men just smiled, watching the kids as they came back toward the house. Dean went over and held Sam's other hand and made Sam smile and giggle, causing both kids to smile down at him.
“Well, if anything happens to us, hopefully, they'll have each other,” William said.
“Those three are welcome here anytime,” Bobby said, having quite a soft spot for them after the time he'd gotten to spend with his niece.
John and his boys stayed for dinner, which Maria helped Bobby with.
“At least they get along,” William told John, glancing at Dean who was sitting in a chair watching Bobby and Maria as they cooked.
“That’ll be a bonus,” John replied.
“Bobby suggested we team up since we’re both after the same thing,” William stated, sipping his beer.
“It’s not a bad idea,” he replied, “It would make things easier. Two heads are better than one.”
William chuckled, leaving out the monster joke, “Yeah. Plus it might give the kids some time to be kids,” he sighed.
“Did you have another lead, to head toward after here?” John asked, looking over at him.
“Yeah, two states over. We’ll get that demon, John. One way or another, we’ll track it down, for the kids’ sake at least,” William told him, sounding more confident than he felt.
“Dean,” John said, causing him to look over at him, “Will and I are gonna work together, so they’ll be coming with us. Behave yourself.”
Dean rolled his eyes and John gave him a look, which made him straighten up, “Yes sir,” he replied, quietly but quickly losing the attitude.
He wasn’t pleased about now having to share a motel room with a girl, especially her. Yeah, she was somewhat interesting but at the same time, she was still a girl and girls were annoying. Dean wanted to ask why she couldn’t just stay with Bobby. He wanted to complain but he knew better than to argue with his father once he’d decided something.
Bobby made burgers with Maria standing on a chair, learning, Dean watching her from the living room, which was not being done discreetly. Bobby let her flip the burgers when it was time, as well as put the cheese on them when they were ready. In another pan he had bacon going, explaining the different levels of crispness. She was completely fascinated and paying attention.
“Dean, how do you like your bacon?” she asked, knowing he was watching her.
Dean got embarrassed, “Cooked?”
The adults laughed at the interaction but Maria just shook her head a bit as she helped set the table when the food was done. William was proud of his daughter with her constant thirst for knowledge. The schedule he'd made out for her was more for her than for him, as he still wanted her to be a kid sometimes too, not just focus on learning everything she could and grow up too fast. He loved seeing how she interacted with Sam earlier that day.
“So, John and I are gonna team up for a while, since we're after the same thing. This will make things easier,” William explained to Maria.
“Okay Pappa,” she replied, looking up at him.
It didn't bother her. She had enjoyed spending time with Sam, although she found Dean slightly annoying. She wouldn't say that part to her father though, knowing that would be rude. It was clear to Maria that her father and John had spoken to Dean in the living room while she'd been helping her Uncle with dinner since he hadn't been addressed during dinner.
“Will my lessons continue like you had scheduled?” she asked her father after she finished her burger.
“Yes. And I'll check it when I am at the motel, so it will be a little different than it is now,” he told her.
“Okay, Pappa,” she replied.
Part of her was going to miss the quizzes after her reading, but she knew it happened sometimes, depending on whatever case her parents worked. Although now, her mother was gone. Something she still hadn't grieved for. She'd even managed to keep her nightmares at bay, reading one of Bobby's books before bed, which he still didn't know about and she was going to miss that. Once dinner was done, Maria helped with clean up, and John had Dean help as well, to which he didn't argue.

Percy: "So..."
Luke: "So?"
Percy: "The parents are meeting each other."
Luke: "Yes? That's the plan".
The blonde was checking his reflection in the mirror on the wardrobe door, trying to fix the collar of his black shirt. The look it sent back was flawless: tight jeans, ironed shirt, perfectly tousled hair. "If you want to make a good first impression, start from the way you dress", Dad always said.
Tumblr media
"And we are ready for them to meet each other". It was almost like the other boy was trying to reassure himself.
In that moment nothing about Percy Jackson - Saviour of Olympus, Poseidon's only half-blood son and Mr. Rule Flouter all around - gave away the vibes of a ruthless war machine; rather, the pink flannel robe and the furry slippers made him look way too younger than his nineteen years.
Funny thing he was the same age as Luke when they first met each other. And yet people kept mistaking him for a teen, while the blonde boy already looked like a male model. It wasn't fair!
Tumblr media
Luke: "I think so. Shouldn’t we be?"
Percy: "Right." *pause* "Say Luke... why can't we run away to Alaska? It's chilly there and quiet and we could learn to fish!"
Luke: "You're the son of a Sea God. If you couldn’t fish, I might worry." The younger nephilim gave him the stink eye. He still couldn't figure out why Percy was so scared of letting their families meet. It wasn't like their relationship was a secret: his parents knew, Percy's too, the same could be said for their friends. So what was wrong with his boyfriend’s mother's desire to meet his dads?
Percy: "Ah ah ah, you're not funny! 😑"
Luke: "Actually I'm hilarious 😏. But what's got you all riled up? There will be only your parents and mine at dinner tonight. Easy peasy."
Percy sat on the bed. His body was shaking a little and everything inside him was screaming to run, run away as far as he could. He swiped a hand over his face and closed his eyes, mentally counting to five before he opened them again. "Don't, okay? You’re not the one with a father-in-law who hates him!"
Tumblr media
Luke raised an eyebrow, his lips curving in a crooked smile. "You called Father your in-law! Dad will be so happy 😁!"
Tumblr media
Percy: "Lukeeeeee, be serious!!! Your father wants to kill me!"
Luke sat next to the other demigod. He looked at his boy from head to toe, a bit worried.
Anxiety was a bitch for Percy and the nephilim didn't know what to do to help him. How could he make it better when he still didn't understand what was all this fuss about. The dinner? The dinner was making Percy feel so bad? "What's new? It's not the first time a supernatural being wants to murder you".
Percy: "You're not helping!"
Luke: "Would you rather I lied?"
Percy: "NO!"
Luke: "Then help me understand you, Jackson. What's the problem? Why are you so scared of this dinner?"
Percy: "Because..."
Luke: "Perce, Father is all bark and no bite. Really. You have nothing to be worried of."
Percy: "Now I know you're lying! Last time we met, your father swore he’d kill me if I defiled you! And he'll know! He'll know we had sex as soon as he sees us!" Sea-green eyes became so big, they almost appeared ready to leap out. The sound of his labored breath filled the room.
Luke: "Actually I think he already knows. Dad must have told him."
Percy: "WHAT?! You... you... you..."
Luke: "Had a chat with Dad? Of course! You never ask your mother for advice?"
Percy: "NOT ABOUT MY SEX LIFE!!!"
Luke: "Why?"
Percy: "Because you just don't! I don't want to know about my mom's sex life and she doesn't want to know about mine! People don't ask their parents about sex! It's not normal!!!" The demigod was screaming and he knew it. How could Luke not...
There it was. That look again. That look so open and trusting and blameless like the one of a child. Percy often forgot how young this Luke really was.
Because Luke Milligan and Luke Castellan were not the same. They had the same blond hair, ice blue eyes true, even the same lopside smile. The two Luke shared a lot in their looks.
However the same could not be said for their temper: they were like night and no, not day. They were like night and dusk. This new Luke lacked the anger and the desire for vengeance the old one had. He lacked that inner darkness which had feasted on Luke Castellan's soul till his last day on Earth and being Luke Milligan what he truly was, this really felt like a giant joke.
Once again Percy found himself wondering what could have happened if the old Luke had had a family like the one he had now during his past life. Because in the end it all came down to his family.
Adam&Michael were Luke's rock, his safe haven. The couple had proven time and time again they didn’t care about Fate when it came to their son and Percy had to admit he felt a little jealous of their steadfast love. Sally Jackson loved her son with all her heart, but she wasn't always there for him while he was growing up.
However what scared Percy the most was not knowing what could have happened to him had Luke Castellan not taken on his shoulders the weight of the first Great Prophecy. Because hero or not, good or not, Luke and him were not so different in their rages.
Luke: "Again, why? Need to remind you it was my first time? I may remember a few things about my past life, but sex is not one of them. Who was I supposed to talk to? Uncle Gabe?"
Percy: "Nope, nien, no! Lalalalalala, I'm not listening!" The demigod covered his ears in his attempt to block everything out, but without much success. "No more sex advices from our parents, okay? We learn together, Luke."
The blonde grabbed Percy by the shoulders to keep him calm. The other boy was on the verge of a panic attack over nothing. "Percy, breathe. Everything is gonna be okay. Our parents will meet each other, will like each other and we will spend a nice night all together".
Percy: "At least I thought I could have your Dad's approval, but now he will hate me too". He whined.
Luke: "Dad doesn't hate you. He finds you sweet and cute ☺️. So stop worrying."
Percy: "Our first time was a disaster!"
Tumblr media
Luke: "Our first time was perfect. You made me feel loved, happy and cared for. I could have asked for nothing more. We can work on the technique another time. The question is: was it nice for you too, Perce?"
Percy: "Yeah... yeah, it was".
Luke: "Good, then it was perfect. A perfect first time 😁".
Percy looked down, defeated. What Luke had said was not entirely true and several of his insecutities were rooted in it.
In hindsight he couldn't say that many of the problems he had during his past relationship with Annabeth didn't still plague him, even if he tried to not mind them.
What is perfection? What allows you to define something as perfect? Nothing truly alive can be described as perfect, because each one of us gives to this word a different meaning. Learn to live with your limits, kid. Suddenly these words came back to his mind and Percy felt like he could let himself breath for the first time tonight.
Once Luke had taken him to visit the Garden of Eden and there Percy had met Joshua, another "uncle" of his boyfriend. The calm he had felt in that garden had shocked him to the core and the demigod had found himself visiting Joshua often in the last months, while Luke was busy with his cousin Jack.
Joshua the Gardner had become his unofficial therapist and Percy thought he had made some progress in healing the countless wounds on his young psyche.
Percy: "But it was not my first time. You know this, Luke".
Perfection was an impossible thing to achieve and he had to learn to live with his short-comings.
Luke: "It was your first time with me. I know you have a past, Percy: I'm not stupid. And I'm glad that at least one of us knew where to put his hands". Luke winked at him and everything in their world was right again. The blonde had this ability to make you believe anything he said just because he had said it. It was like a super power. "Our future will be full of first times, Perce". At once his smile became quite sinister. "Whatever Nico di Angelo thinks of us 😑."
Percy: "You're scaring me".
Luke: "Ops 😅. Sorry, babe! Do you feel better now?"
Percy: "I think so. I'm... I'm not regretting what we did but I would have liked to have a little more privacy, though".
Luke shrugged. "Angels, Perce. We don't know what it is".
Fucking Angels and their need to spy on them. A bunch of peeping Toms, that's what they were. But Percy knew better than to say what he really thought about those flying bastards to Luke. He was already on thin ice with his boyfriend's family. "Your uncle Gabe sent me a thank you basket for deflowering you!"
Luke: "And it was the best chocolate I have ever tasted 😁. Uncle Gabe is a genius!"
Percy: "Any chance your other uncles won’t know we had sex?"
Luke: "Mmm, maybe Castiel. The parents don't like him much. Cas and the Winchesters are as thick as thieves".
Percy: "Damn!"
Luke: "The joys of a hive mind. Angels like to gossip a lot 🤣".
Percy raised his eyes to swear again: "Fuck!"
Luke: "Maybe later 😁. I want to be on top this time 🤔".
Tumblr media
Percy: "🫣" *silence* "Luke?"
Luke: "Mmm?"
Percy: "Do we really need to go to this dinner? We can stay at home, order Thai and try to..."
Luke: "To?"
"Don't make me sound like a stupid teenager 😠. We could... make love again?"
The nephilim put an arm around his man, giving him a loud kiss on the cheek. "Ohhhh, Percy! Sassy prince of my heart, as much as I’d love to stay here and ride you till dawn, my dad didn’t raise a quitter. Go and get ready or we will be late!"
Percy: "I hate you!"
Luke: "Youuuu loooooovvvvvveeeee me 😁"
Percy: "Well, at least my dad won't be there tonight."
Luke let go of a guilty whistle, removing his arm from Percy's shoulders. "I wouldn't be so sure of it".
A chilling shiver ran down the poor demigod's back. "Fuck! We're doomed 🥲".

DAY FOURTEEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dean Winchester + a/b/o
[warnings - gen. supernatural stuff, alpha!Dean, Omega!fem!reader, penetrative unprotected sex, breeding, heats, a/b/o]
[word count - 1713]
[kinktober list]
Tumblr media
“Dean,” you complain, leaning across your shared bed to grasp at his wrist before he can get up, “alpha, I need you,”
“I know, sunshine,” he dips his lips into a small, sympathetic frown, kissing the back of your hand before easing off the side of the bed and reaching for his discarded jeans, “but Sammy needs my help with this stupid Wendigo, and we don’t want him dying again, do we?”
“But alpha, my heat,” you lament. As if to prove your point, a short sharp cramp shoots through your stomach and you lurch forward with a pitiful whine. Seeking out any form of comfort, you twist in the sheets and bury your nose in Dean’s pillow, breathing in his heady scent.
“I know, I know, princess,” his belt jingles, boots stomp to the floor, and his palm rests for a long moment at the top of your back as he attempts to give you a fleeting touch of relief. He really, really wants to stay with you, “but I should only be a few hours, then I’ll knot you so good there’s no way you won’t have my pups,”
This only makes more waves of painful arousal wash over you, but he’s right there to soothe away the ache with a hearty kiss to your marked mating gland. His scent is clouded in disappointment at the thought of leaving you while you’re in your heat, even though the both of you know it can’t be helped; he needs to save Sam.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can, omega. Just, be god till I get back, okay?” He turns you over and presses a long goodbye kiss to your awaiting lips, “call me if you need me, yeah?”
You just bob your head, still completely exhausted (Sam had decided to call at three o’clock in the morning to ask for backup). All you want is for your alpha to stay and take care of you; go back to sleep until your heat hits full force, but there’s no stopping Dean when he knows his brother is in danger.
He crosses the room fast, ripping the bandaid off before he can change his mind. Before he leaves, though, you hear him dig through his bag and drop a handful of snack bars and a bottle of water on your bedside table, a precaution just in case you can’t find the strength to get out of bed later.
He stops at the door, lets out a sigh, and crosses the room to give you a finally parting kiss to the crown of your head. Then, you’re left alone.
-
Dean is taking much too long.
You’ve been trying your absolute hardest to distract yourself. Somehow, every article of Dean’s clothes has ended up in a pile, combined with pillows and blankets in the form of a nest on your shared bed. You’re thankful that he’d left that handful of snacks, because by the time you’d woken up at an appropriate time, your heat had come on too hard for you to leave your nest further than the wardrobe to retrieve Dean’s clothes.
It’s been hours, and you’re beginning to worry for the brothers - mostly Dean.
You reach for your phone.
“Pick up, pick up, pick up, pick up,” you mutter, nestling yourself further into the comforting smell of your mate in your anxiousness. The phone clicks; he’s picked up, “alpha?”
“‘Mega,” comes his response, voice husky and quiet. You hear the quiet hum of the Impala; you assume he’s driving home, “are you okay? Is your heat hurting too bad?”
“No, m’okay. I- I though- well, you were taking so long, I thought that something might have happened,” you stumble over your words, struggling to focus on much of anything with the burning need swirling through your core.
“I’m okay, ‘mega, I promise. I’ll be back in about,” there’s a pause, a jingle (you figure he’s flicking his watch about to check the time), “ten minutes? I’ll take care of you soon, I promise,”
“Okay,” you breathe out. A sudden surge of clarity overtakes you, “hey Dean?”
“Yeah?” He panics at your tone, you can almost hear his foot pressing more firmly against the gas pedal.
“Is Sammy okay?” It’s an innocent question, one you feel guilty for not asking sooner.
“Yeah, bunny, he’s okay,” he relaxes once again, and you can imagine his scent turning sweet again.
-
He’s true to his word, and you hear him pull up in his pride and joy not fifteen minutes later. The front door opens, closes. You can hear the thump of his boots as they fall to the floor. Practically squirming in anticipation, you strip the stark remnants of your clothes from your overheating body.
“Dean,” you all but purr at him, grinning like the Cheshire Cat when the brunet man trudges through the door frame and towards your nest. He crosses the room with big strides, stripping his flannel and shirt, offering them to you with shaking, bloodstained hands. You snatch them away and stash them in the correct place in your perfectly organised nest.
He strides off to the bathroom, not before dropping a kiss to the crown of your head, to wash his hands.
He’s back in a flash, not wanting to spend another moment away from you, and crawling into your nest, careful not to knock any of the blankets around.
“‘Mega,” he burrows his face in your neck, inhaling your sweet, heat-riddled scent.
“Alpha,” you pant, turning to him with a restless bite to your already swollen lip. Like a magnet, you get ever closer to the muscled man, hooking your leg over his hips and grinding into his already rock hard cock, “I need your knot, need your pups,”
“Poor little bunny,” he croons, smoothing sympathetic kisses over your burning cheeks and helping you push down the tight denim from his hips, all the way down to and off his ankles, leaving him in just a pair of much too tight looking boxers and socks that he quickly toes off.
A painful cramp of arousal sends you lurching forward in his hold, whimpering pitifully and rutting against his obvious bulge. Dean takes pity on you, pulling the waistband of his underwear down just enough for his cock to bounce up and hit his stomach. You can feel slick dribbling down the inside of your thigh at just the sight of him; at his full balls and already swelling knot.
“Lay down, pretty girlie,” he nips gently at your bonding mark, helping maneuver you down to lie on your back, spread out for him. There’s no use in wasting time when you’re wailing out for his cock, squirming in the now stained sheets, so Dean parts your legs even further, slotting in between them and lining his throbbing prick up to your sopping entrance.
“Alpha,” you pester. You know in your heart that he’s only taking so long because he wants to make sure he won't hurt you, but your hindbrain insists that he wants to make you squirm and suffer under his gaze.
Somehow, through the mess of hormones and heightened scents, your mate knows this too, so he speeds himself up, caging his arms above your head and pushing his hips forward until they meet your own, filling you up to the brim with his length.
“Oh, oh,” you let your head fall back, absorbing the satisfying fullness of having your mate inside you. Your body went down by at least 10 degrees at the contact, but it’s not enough. It won’t be enough until he’s knotted you.
He almost pauses to let you adjust, but you won’t let him, wrapping your legs around his waist and locking your ankles together. His pace begins steadily, muscles tensing underneath your calves and scent filling with the sweet tang of his sweat. The knot at the base of his cock is already swelling, catching on the rim of your entrance..
“Do you want my knot now? Wanna have m’pups?” He hangs his head in the junction of your neck and shoulder, running his teeth over the long healed over scar of your mating gland and drilling his hips into your at an almost rabid pace now.
“Please, please! I need your knot, alpha, want your babies, your pups,” you babble, words mushing together into an almost incomprehensible jumble of syllables. Dean speeds himself up, pushing himself deeper and deeper with each frantic thrust, driving the ever expanding base of his knot, “alpha, Dean, need it need it need it please, Dean, it hurts!”
“Okay, princess, okay,” he promises, forcing himself to balance on the crutch of one arm as his other slips down so his calloused fingers can flick at your aching clit, causing you to jolt against him, more slick dribbling down from your poor, abused cunt onto his own thighs.
Your orgasm comes unexpectedly, rivers of your creamy slick making it so much easier for his knot to slip in fully, locking in to you and forcing your pussy to catch his endless ropes of cum. He practically collapses onto you, teeth piercing through your vulnerable mark and refreshing it with more of his overpowering scent to ward off any stupid alphas that might dare to approach his mate. He tugs his hips back, testing. When you whine at the uncomfortable movement, he apologises with a chaste kiss to your head.
Both of you take a minute or so to calm down, panting into the night air of your shared bedroom and bathing in each other’s no longer heat riddled scents. Dean suddenly remembers himself and takes his weight from you, securing his arms around your body and switching your positions so you can rest on top of him. You breathe a sigh of relief, relaxing in his hold and on his knot, soaking up the feel of his cum puddling around his base.“Go to sleep, sweet girl,” he draws his hand up and down the small of your back, drawing you to press your chest against his own, “you’re gonna have another wave soon, okay? So I’m gonna get you cleaned up when this goes down, ‘nd then I’ll have another go at givin’ you pups,”

Stories in the Sunshine
Summary: Friendships form with Sam and Dean
POV: first person reader insert and Sam Winchester
Warnings: implied past abuse; past abusive spouse; injuries briefly mentioned;
Royal AU with the characters of Supernatural
Word Count: 1208
Part 3/? (7 so far) in process
Tumblr media
The next several days went by filled with shared meals in Sams bed chamber where jokes and stories of their childhood made me laugh. Actually laugh. Out loud. I can’t remember the last time I genuinely found something this funny. Probably before I began trying to impress people at court. I got to know the two princes well. These men were wonderful company, and their brotherhood was beyond beautiful. I began to feel comfortable with them quickly as if I’d known them for years.
We spent many afternoons walking through the gardens and mingling with others at court or riding through the forest to the hills and field just beyond it on horseback. We’d dismount and lay around each other on a blanket drinking celebration wine. They seemed to take much joy in doing things their father would frown upon. I couldn’t help but smile. I’ve never felt so free, with my head leaned back against Deans chest as he propped himself with his elbow on some pillows, we listed to Sam read stories from a book of dragons and demons versus the kingdom with three lone knights at its defense. It was a sunny afternoon and the aroma of grass and tree sap wafted around us. I could just picture the battle, as a matter of fact I began imagining it happening right before me.
I had almost dozed off when I heard Sam quietly ask, “So what happened earlier with father? You’ve hardly said a word since we got here.”
“Same old argument Sammy, only this time he gave me a time limit and ultimatum. And invited every unwed noble girl he knows of.”
“How long did he give you?”
“Six months. And get this, I have to schedule a date every Saturday from next week until the times up. Basically choose six of the women he’s invited tomorrow night to court.”
“Why is he in such hurry? You’re only thirty-five and its not like we’re at war or that he’s sick with one foot in the grave.”
“I don’t know Sam, I just know that there’s no chance of me enjoying the ball anymore. Even if I tried drinking my way through it. He always manages to ruin my birthday. Somehow he finds a way.”
“Maybe they won’t be so bad, Donna seemed really sweet at Christmas and Meg was a lot of fun a few years ago. Oh and that Ruby, man was she unforgettable. Maybe she’ll wear that slinky red dress again”
“Heh yeah. But I just can’t picture living with any of them forever - and when I try to think of who’s the best queen material, who could actually help me rule - I definitely draw a blank. I’m going to be stuck with whoever he chooses for me because sure a dance, hell a night with any of them sure I’m there, but more than that? I mean marriage? No thanks.”
“What about y/n? You could dance the night away with her. Forget about it all. Just to spite him.” I could hear the smirk on Sams face in his voice.
“Sam.”
“What? The two of you have obviously gotten cozy over the last few weeks.”
“Father has ordered her death for next Saturday. I’m sure he’d love to find out we’ve released and been housing his fugitive thief.”
Sam sighed, “what if he didn’t recognize her? I mean under all that mud she turned out to be absolutely beautiful.”
“Sam,“ he sighed, "just forget it. Maybe you should dance with her, make sure she enjoys her last few days with you.” Dean shifted out from under me to stand.
They both smiled when I groaned at the loss of contact.
Tumblr media
When I stirred from my dozing Dean and his horse were nowhere to be seen. I stretched, and looked around until I found Sam.
“How long did I sleep?” I yawned.
“Haha long enough for Dean to give up on you and go to the armory.” Sam grinned at my sleepy state. “No really maybe half an hour,” he extended his hand to help me to my feet, “here, let’s head back to the castle. We’ve gotta formulate a plan for tomorrow night.”
“A plan? Why do we need a plan for a grand birthday ball?” I asked as he whisked me up behind him on his horse. Clinging to Sam as we rode back to the castle, I began to worry about the next day’s circumstances to come. My mind and dreams were fitful and interrupted by anxiety and fear.

_________
You groaned the second you were alone. You’d survived the summer tour but you were exhausted. All you wanted was a greasy hamburger, chicken nuggets, and to sleep for a month. After changing into a pair of joggers and oversized hoodie, you texted your bodyguard Eric, telling him you wanted to get out of there quietly. He knocked twice on your dressing room door before entering with a smile.
“Great show tonight,” he said. You rolled your eyes, Eric grabbing your backpack for you.
“Like you pay attention to anything besides harassing the security team,” you said, resting your forehead against his strong chest. “I never want to tour again. I’m so tired.”
“You’re just cranky cause you’re hungry and need sleep,” he said rubbing your back. “You only have two more shows this year and then we can sit on the couch eating cookies and binging divorce court.”
“This is why I keep you around, buddy,” you laughed, taking a deep breathe before looking up. “Speaking of food-“
“Let’s get you out of here and full of some chicken nuggies.”
“Back in five,” you said to Eric thirty minutes later, your wallet in hand and panic button in your pocket. He let you go out without it sometimes but not after a show and especially not when you were in the press so much lately.
It was nearly midnight as you walked into the nearly empty McDonald’s, a guy in a hoodie at the counter with his back to you.
“Hi,” you said, stepping up to the other register. “Can I get a quarter pounder with cheese, a medium fry and a twenty piece chicken nugget with barbecue sauce? Oh and a bottle of water.”
You paid, the girl behind the counter staring at you like she recognized you but was too nervous to say anything.
“Holy shit,” said a male voice. You glanced left, the man in the hoodie pushing it down to reveal him in a black baseball cap. He was incredibly handsome and had such pretty green eyes. Something seemed vaguely familiar about him but you couldn’t place it. “You’re Y/N Y/L/N…and apparently you eat like a linebacker.”
“Dance on stage for three hours every night and you would too,” you said, the man humming.
“Do you mind if I get a pic?” he asked.
“Sure,” you said, the man handing his phone to the girl behind the counter who eagerly took a few. He was practically giddy when he got his phone back, a bag of food coming out for him.
“Thanks for indulging me,” he said. You noticed a few strands of confetti on top of his hat and smiled. He must have been at the concert. He almost walked away and out the door when he spun around, parting his lips. “Can I give you my number?”
“Sure,” you said again. It was much safer to just take the number and hand it off to Eric to do a background check on the person than try a rejection. The man scribbled it down on the back of your receipt, your cashier now acting as his wing woman and making sure he had a pen.
“I uh, hope to hear from you soon,” he said, flashing you a wink before leaving. You eased when he was gone, the girl at the counter handing you your bag of food after a moment.
“He’s so hot, isn’t he?” she said, your eyebrows raising. Not the reaction you were expecting from her.
“Mhm. Thanks for the food. Have a good night,” you said, quickly leaving. You ducked outside, Eric waiting in the backseat for you.
“Any trouble?” he asked, nodding to the man farther down the parking lot, slipping into a large SUV.
“Just a fan,” you said, handing him the paper with the guys number. He gave you a side eye as he took it from your fingers. “He was harmless.”
“I’ll check it out to be sure,” he grumbled, stealing a fry from your bag. “Did you get me-“
“Yes I got you your nuggets,” you said, Eric relaxing back into his seat. Your driver headed for home and in twenty minutes you were on your couch chowing down. Eric was at the kitchen counter, lazily scrolling through his phone, probably grateful that you were secure in the house for the night.
You watch his eyes go wide, gaze shooting to you.
“I swear I didn’t do anything.” You kept eating your burger, Eric silently watching you. “Dude, you’re freaking me out.”
“That fan from McDonald’s posted the pic of you,” he said. You rolled your eyes and got up, sulking over to him.
“Oh tell me he’s not some whack job.”
“He’s Dean Winchester,” he said, showing his phone to you. You shrugged, walking back to the couch. “Dean Winchester? NFL quarterback? Three time Super Bowl winner?”
You stared at him, Eric groaning.
“He’s the quarterback for the LA Wolves…he went to Kansas State the same time you did, Y/N. You probably went to his football games.” He rolled his eyes at you. “How do you not realize you’re taking a picture with a sports legend?”
“I must have missed it with all my free time over the past dozen years with all the touring and ten albums and other shit in my life. And frankly you’re the one that told me it doesn’t matter who it is, I need to be careful of everyone, whether they’re famous or not.” He sighed, putting his phone away.
“Alright, I get your point,” he said, returning to eating. “Dude’s kind of a player anyways it seems like. Nice guy but I know you’re more the sensitive guy type.”
“Emotionally available,” you corrected, plopping down on the couch once more. “Why would you think he’s into me anyways? Plenty of people are fans without wanting to get in my pants.”
“Well, it’s Dean Winchester so he definitely wants in your pants,” he joked. “Also the caption, genius.”
You quirked your eyebrow, Eric tossing his phone over to you. You pouted when you went back to the post, actually reading it this time.
DWinchester67 Y/N Y/L/N Saturday Night Concert at the Wolves stadium. AMAZING TIME with the crew. Worth getting ragged on by the boys all week for taking them to the show just to see them belt their hearts out to #FinishLine (video soon)
Then had the awesome luck to snag a pic with Y/N grabbing a midnight snack. I was dying on the inside at meeting my crush. Sorry for being awkward when you were trying to get your grub on. Next time it’s on me ;)
Your eyes met Eric’s when you finished, his chicken nuggets nearly gone.
“Yeah, like no reason he’s into you, right?” smirked Eric. You grumbled, returning to your late night dinner. “I’ll background check that number in the morning.”
“He’s a player that wants to have sex. Don’t bother with the background work. He’s harmless.”
“As you wish, princess,” he said with a little bow, earning himself being hit in the face with your balled up burger wrapper. “The abuse I put up with. Tsk tsk.”
“Yeah, yeah. Tell that to your generous benefits package,” you said, Eric chuckling as he double checked the back doors were locked one last time. “Eric…”
“Mhm,” he hummed, ruffling your head gently as he walked past the back of the couch. “See you in the morning, kiddo.”
“Night. Oh!” you said, sitting up on your knees on the couch, Eric throwing his head back. “It’s nothing bad! Just…can you ban everyone from the house until ten? I really want to sleep in and try to catch up.”
“You want me to fend off your team? After Dean Winchester posted that? What do I get out of this?” he teased, crossing his arms. You batted your eyes, jutting out your lip. “You got to do better than that.”
“I’ll buy you box seats to an LA Wolves game of your choice?” He looked blank faced which meant he was really tempted to take the offer. But Eric didn’t like extravagant gifts from you for doing his job. He already said his paycheck was more than enough and he barely accepted the Christmas and birthday presents you’d get for him.
You held up a finger, Eric calculating the move.
“Give me one good reason for not accepting.”
“First off, it’s too much. Second, I’m your primary protection agent and need to be available-”
“Please Eric? They’re going to be vultures in the morning with that whole post and you haven’t had a day off in six months. You’re as exhausted as I am. I’m asking as your friend, not your boss.” He grumbled, shaking his head. “Is that a yes?”
“It means I’ll think about it and I’ll see you in the morning,” he said. “We’re going to watch football all day. I’ll teach you all about it.”
You growled, Eric snickering the whole way out.
Dean POV
The first game of the season was always a good one. The team was healthy. We had home field advantage for once.
And I really enjoyed the hell out of playing football in a packed stadium. It wasn’t an ego thing like for some people. No, I loved putting on a show and entertaining people for a few hours a week, give them a fun escape before they had to return to the reality of their lives.
That’s what football had always been to me and I knew for most fans, it gave them that same sense of belonging.
And women tended to really like seeing a bunch of muscular men run around in tight pants.
“Winchester, surprised you’re here,” said Michael. I glanced over my shoulder in the locker room, a big smirk on his face. “I thought you’d be in the burn unit with how hard you crashed and burned with Y/N Y/L/N last night.”
I rolled my eyes at the taunts of the room, ignoring them as they riffed on me for a good ten minutes. When Benny walked in though they finally calmed down, Ben taking a seat in his cubby beside me.
“Let me have it,” I sighed. Benny leaned in close, covering his mouth from the rest of the room.
“If you really want that girl to go out with you, you got to do more than make an insta post. She’s classy. She’s not going to fawn over you like every dipshit you’ve dated because you’re good looking. So you better impress her.” He gave me one last look before reaching down to his duffel and pulling out his cleats.
He had a point. Y/N had never cared for cocky flirts. I could remember her in college, always spending time at parties with the shy academic guys that chatted her ear off about music theory and english papers. I swear the only time she gave a single jock attention was when she’d grab a guitar in the late hours of the night and sing a song none of us had heard before. She could stop a group of drunken college students in their tracks with a single note. Nowadays her music was all pop but back then, just her and a guitar…I’d have sworn an angel fell out of the sky straight in front of me.
No woman had made my heart swell up with comfort and longing the way she had the night I laid eyes on her for the first time.
The years had done little to diminish a teenage boy’s crush. If anything, seeing her last night, getting to talk to her for even a brief moment, made my insides burn hotter than before. Maybe it was only a crush, an infatuation with a beautiful woman with an even more beautiful voice.
I felt Benny’s stare on me as I lazily watched my feet before me.
“You’re still in love with her.” He said it as a statement so I didn’t respond. I’d never claimed such a thing despite Benny insisting on it back in college. But he’d always been good at sensing those kinds of things.
Or at least he wasn’t afraid to say it out loud.
“I talked to her in english lit once, about you.” My head snapped up, eyes wide as he was now down to his boxer briefs, tugging up his pants. “She heard what happened to Sam.”
“Why are you bringing up Sam?” I whispered, giving him a hard glare. Benny smiled, curious since he knew not to bring him up unless I did. “Half the school offered their condolences. Of course she-”
“She didn’t. She offered…hope. Apparently her little brother went missing once too.” I turned my head away.
“Everyone who knows anything about Y/N Y/L/N heard that story. Congrats. We both have little brothers that were kidnapped and never heard from again. Fucking awesome we can share that trauma,” I spit out. Benny leaned in close, gripping my shoulder.
“She wrote a song for her brother. Finish Line. She showed it to me long before she got famous. Look up who it’s fucking dedicated to and maybe realize there is a deeper reason why you fell in love at first sight with that girl. I have a feeling she’s the only girl in the world that could get you and you knew it long before your head did.”
I was seething, storming out of the locker room and into a trainers room next door, quickly shutting the door behind me. What the fuck was Benny thinking bringing Sam up right before a game? I could handle thinking about a girl but Sam?
I angrily typed Finish Line dedication into google, freezing at the short paragraph that appeared as the top result.
Chart topper Finish Line by Y/N Y/L/N was notoriously written by Y/L/N in her senior year of highschool after the disappearance of her younger brother, Max. Max is presumed to have been abducted while walking home from a friends house. The music video of Finish Line states the song is “For Max & Sam” although Y/L/N has never stated who Sam is. Fans theorize “Sam” is a representation of all abduction victims however…
I immediately tapped on the youtube video of the song, scrolling all the way to the end, bottom lip wobbling as I read the stark white letters against the black background.
She never gave me the time of day back then yet she knew who I was, what it felt like to have a piece of you go missing and you couldn’t do anything about it. She put my baby brother in a song for her baby brother and we weren’t even friends.
I swallowed thickly, forcing myself to calm down.
“Sammy,” I whispered, closing my eyes. “Is this a sign or something? Is she as fucked up as I am and the world doesn’t know it? Is that why she’s never been seen with a boyfriend her whole career? Did she shy away from connections when I buried myself in meaningless ones? Are we both so screwed up on the biggest stage in the world and that’s why I still feel breathless when I see her? Tell me I’m not crazy, Sammy. Tell me there’s a reason I’m still head over heels for this girl.”
I slowly opened my eyelids, staring at coach who was staring back at me on the other side of the room by the far entrance. I quickly cleared my throat and turned to leave, coach’s whistle stopping me in my tracks.
“I don’t know who the hell you’re talking about son, but my advice as someone who’s been married longer than you’ve been alive…you know when you fall in love. That’s the easy part. Admitting it and trying to get the balls to say it to her face is the harder part.”
“Sir, she doesn’t even know I exist. Or barely knows I do,” I said quietly. “I should-”
“Your little brother, god rest his soul, wants you to be happy, Winchester. So shoot your shot with this girl so you can stop having an existential crisis before my home opener, got it?” I glanced over my shoulder, coach’s face surprisingly soft for how close we were to game time. “She must be special to tame you.”
“She had me the whole time. The rest were me trying to forget.” He nodded, picking up his playbook again.
“Then go get this girl so you have your answer,” he said. “And stay out of my training room before games. Only place they can’t find me.”
“Yes sir.” I ducked back into the locker room, Benny gave me a raised eyebrow, silently asking if I was okay. I nodded and sat down to tie up my shoes, an idea sparking in my mind before I opened instagram. “Ben, take a picture of me.”
“Good god,” groaned Michael from my other side. “Like your insta doesn’t have enough shirtless selfies.”
He snagged my phone out of my hands, sighing as he took a photo of me smirking in my cubby.
“I regret being your friend,” he said, handing it back to me while Benny chuckled.
“Same, Michael,” I smiled back before I was on insta and typing furiously. I posted before I could stop myself, Benny and Michael sharing a look and immediately going to their own phones. But they weren’t fast enough apparently.
“Winchester are you serious?” shouted Gabe from across the room, the whole team looking at their phones now.
“Yup,” I said, standing and tugging on my under armor v-neck, my shoulder pads and then my jersey.
“You can’t force a girl to go out with you!” he shouted.
“I’m not forcing. I’m offering a donation to her charity if she does feel inclined to go out with me,” I said with a shrug. Benny grabbed my shoulders, looking at me like I was crazy.
“Five million dollars? That’s not what I mean when I said impress her you idiot!” he said.
“That’s what the picture was for,” I said with a wink, my phone already buzzing non-stop at the incoming flood of texts and calls. “You think she’ll take me up on my offer?”
“This fucker’s really about to get a fucking date with Y/N Y/L/N through a fucking bribe,” said Michael, shaking his head. “Dude, you’re crushing so hard it’s in psycho territory.”
“One date is all I want,” I said, smiling when coach walked in, rolling his eyes at me. “Come on boys, time to focus on the game!”
Y/N POV
I was currently hiding in my bedroom, reading a book on Sunday evening, Eric doing his best to get my agent and manager and PR head out of the house without force. As expected, they’d reemed my ass out for not capitalizing on the Dean Winchester picture in the moment but I didn’t care. I didn’t care about hanging out with pretty fuck boys for publicity’s sake.
But I had followed him on my private account no one knew about. It’d taken a moment but I remembered who Dean Winchester was in our college days. He was flirty back then I remembered. And a good football player I guess. But I just remembered what happened in the spring semester, how the whole campus knew his pain before he had a chance to even process it.
My heart ached for a boy I’d said nothing more than a passing hello to at parties.
I still felt that ache whenever I sang Finish Line. I’d never realized Dean went on to his own version of fame all those years ago. But I knew the hurt still existed in his heart. There was no healing it but some part of me wished I could soothe it for a moment. I forgot in the music sometimes. Maybe he could do the same when he played his games.
Maybe I really should have talked to him last night.
My phone buzzed and I saw a new post, this one of him making my jaw drop. “Hot damn you are good looking, Winchester.”
Then I shrieked when I looked at the caption.
DWinchester67 Hey @Y/NY/L/N it was fun running into you last night. How about you take me up on my offer and let me buy dinner for our first date?
Oh and to sweeten the deal, I’ll donate five million dollars to your charity if you say yes (plus another million for each touchdown I throw tonight, those are freebies for ya).
You got my number so waiting on you sweetheart. ;)
Eric was in the room before I could raise my head, eyes darting around the room before he determined there was no threat.
“Jesus, girl. I swear if you saw a bug-”
“Dean Winchester asked me out. Publicly.” Eric narrowed his eyes as he tucked his gun back into the holster.
“Okay…you made it clear to the team today you don’t want anything to do with a publicity stunt. What’s the problem?” You tossed the phone to the end of the bed, Eric sitting on the bench at the bottom to pick it up. He did a double take, eyes skirting to meet yours. “I’m doing a full background check on this man. He either really wants in your pants, to profit off you or he’s obsessive. To be honest, I don’t like any of those options.”
“Me either but five million dollars to the charity? Plus more? That could help kids, Eric. We could find a safe way to do this, right?” He pursed his lips, nodding once.
“One date at a place of my choosing. My team will be there in the background and I’m going to talk to this boy and let him know all of the ways I can kill him if he tries anything.” You smiled, Eric handing the phone back.
“You’d kill your favorite football player for me. You’re too sweet Eric,” you chuckled. He stood up, adjusting his sports blazer.
“You know why I stuck with you when my agency assigned me to the Princess?” he asked, a dry laugh leaving his lips. “You always listened to me. You didn’t always agree but you listened and we could have conversations. We could have conversations about safety without you acting like a brat or me like an asshole. You respected me and that earned you loyalty all these years later.”
You stared your hands in your lap. “My parents lost one child. I don’t want them to lose another.”
You were surprised to find him come closer, sitting on the edge of the bed, turning to face you. He tucked your hair behind your ear, smiling softly.
“Don’t lose hope now, kiddo. I’ve always admired that about you.” You looked away, Eric stroking your cheek with his thumb. “Someday we’ll find the truth. I promise.”
“My mom wishes it were me,” you said, shaking your head. “If I didn’t make my parents so much money I’d think they’d be plenty happy to let some crazy fan take me away forever. All because I was five minutes late to pick up Max and he decided to walk home.”
“Hey!” Eric gripped your shoulders hard, hard enough that you felt the strength of his hands down in your bones. He was always so gentle you with guiding touches here and there you often forgot he was as deadly with his hands as he was a weapon.
You met his gaze, Eric sighing.
“That is not true and you know it.” His stern expression softened when you shook your head.
“She told me the day we had a funeral for him Max should have been there and I should have been the one missing. So I know, Eric.” He pulled you into a hug, letting you squeeze him tight.
“I know she did,” he whispered, your chin resting on his shoulder. “She has so many regrets from that time and knows what she said broke something with the two of you. But I have had countless conversations with them over the years. I know you trust me so trust me when I say, you are their world and it would destroy them to lose you. She always asks me if you’re happy because she says you put on your fake smile for her. She doesn’t blame you one bit for it.”
“I hate when you have points,” you said, closing your eyes, getting another squeeze from him.
“Happy to help my buddy. So you don’t give up on Max yet, alright? Everyone else has. If he’s out there, he needs you to keep going for him.”
“No wonder your team adores you. Soft cuddly bear under all the threats of violence aren’t you?”
“It’s how I land so many chicks,” he chuckled. He kissed your temple and stood, cracking his back. “Respond back yes if you want to. Let me look into this Dean Winchester before you agree to anything else though.”
You hummed, clearing your throat when Eric was in the doorframe. “I-I do remember one thing about Dean in college. He had a younger brother Sam that went missing too. Never found him.”
Eric kept his back to you for a beat, nodding once.
“Do you think Dean is a bad guy?”
“Gut check says no. Probably just wants a hookup,” he said before stepping out and pulling the door shut fast behind him. “Rowan, I swear to god you bother this girl tonight and I’ll shove my glock up your ass.”
“He asked her out! I need to talk to her!” he yelled back on the other side of the door. You sighed and put on your noise canceling headphones before going to instagram and tapping on his post.
Y/NY/L/N @DWinchester67 One date. As friends Winchester
Not five seconds later you received a winking emoji and “friends” in response.
“Dear god, you’re going to be a handful, Winchester.”

Wild Hearts (Part 4) - Postcards From Dean
Tumblr media
Summary: Postcards from Dean to Y/N; sent over the years they were apart.
Masterlist
Pairing: AU!Dean x reader
Square: Postcards @j3bingo
Word Count: 743
Warnings: underage, age gap (reader is 16-22, Dean is 20-26), language, slow burn, long distance relationship of sorts, pining, maybe a little angst, time jumps, fluff
A/N: This part was written for @j3bingo go as a collection of AU postcards from Dean to Y/N.
_____
A few of your favourite postcards from Dean - from the six years you were apart.
___________________________________
Hey Y/N,
What do you write on a postcard?
Dean
P.S. I picked up a stack of these at a rest stop on the way to Sioux Falls and I thought you'd like some old school snail-mail. I'm aware that your parents and the mailman will probably read this too, so... I'm sorry I got your daughter into trouble and now she has- what, ten hours of community service left? But, she's kind of a badass and saved my life so don't go too hard on her.
P.P.S. And to the mailman: Not cool, dude.
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
Sam told me to start these with 'Dear' instead of 'Hey', I kind of like the way it sounds so I let him be right for once. Bobby and Jody are pretty cool, they won't even let me pay rent so we can save more money. We'll have a place of our own in no time now.
xo Dean
P.S. I hope the 'x' is okay, if not I blame Sam. If so, it was all my idea. You can't tell but I just winked at you.
P.P.S. It's my birthday and Jody made me a cherry pie! It was so good, I had every intention of saving you a piece but now I'll just have to learn how to make one for you instead. Can't wait for your phone call tonight so I can tell you all about it.
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
It took a little longer than I thought but we just moved into our own apartment! It's closer to Sam's college but we can still visit Bobby and Jody with a short car ride.
xo Dean
P.S. Think you'll come visit me on your gap year?
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
It snowed today! And I'm making pasta tonight. You can drool over it via video chat later. I wish we were in the same time zone so you could ring in the new year with me too.
I’m missing you a lot lately,  xo Dean
P.S. I'm sending you a big fat kiss. You can put it where you want it. X
P.P.S. To the mailman: Get your mind out of the gutter. She's a lady!
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
I'm seriously craving Donna's mocha ice cream right now. I think it would go great with Jody’s cherry pie recipe. Don't knock it till you try it!
xo Dean
P.S. Sam hasn't stopped playing that playlist you made him for studying. I swear you have the worst taste in music. I'm going to make you a playlist tonight.
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
I think I like the mountains on this postcard best, we should take a roadtrip there together, maybe next Valentine’s day?
x Dean
P.S. I don't like airplanes.
P.P.S. But I'm going to take you to all the places on these postcards some day.
P.P.P.S. I hope you're still pinning these postcards to your wall so you can hold them over my head some day.
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
I'm sorry.
xx Dean
P.S. If I could have one superpower it would be the ability to control the weather.
P.P.S. Getting snowed in would be a lot more fun WITH you.
P.P.P.S. Maybe my superpower should’ve been teleportation! Damn it, is it too late to change my answer?
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
I just dropped Sam off for his first year of law school. I feel old. Luckily, he got another scholarship though, so I don't have to worry about paying his tuition. Kid's a major nerd.
x Dean
P.S. I'm actually in California! The salt air here makes me think of home, of you. You feel so far away right now. I'm not even looking at the same ocean. That sucks.
P.P.S. We haven't talked in a while and I know that's mostly my fault, but I wanted to give you a heads up. I'm coming home... Soon.
___________________________________
Dear Y/N,
Did you notice there's no stamp?
Always yours,
xoxo Dean
P.S. I was going to tell you to meet me where I first kissed you but that's a hell of a walk. So meet me under our streetlamp. The one where you put ice cream on my nose the first night we met.
P.P.S. I hope you come, I can't wait to see you. But I understand and no hard feelings if you don't.

The haze of the control room wasn’t noticeable the longer they sat in the small room facing Pam, Lee and Sam getting down the new track Lee wrote through the glass. Dean bobbed his head, bong braced against his lap, as Ash hummed in appreciation, eyes closed and headphones on. Kevin had wandered off to a smaller studio to work out a solo they wanted to put into “Prophet and Loss”. After that and "Hand Me My Axe", which Lee was shredding on at the moment, they’d have a full thirteen for the album. They’d already recorded the bonus acoustic versions of “Brother’s Keeper” and “Baby” for the deluxe editions.
Thank fuck those were behind him, because Dean cried through both of those sessions and Sam would never let him live it down, despite the sasquatch also getting misty during his verses. The fact that Sam wrote his own part and Dean didn’t know what it was going to convey until they were in the box, well, that was just unfair. He blamed it on Sam’s singing, because dude was not a vocalist, but really it had been a lot to hear what Sam went through when Dean was busy self-destructing.
Whatever, Dean was in touch with his emotions now, who cared?
The finish line on this album was rapidly approaching and Dean was more stoked than he thought he’d be at doing something completely without Cas’ influence. Though he still heard Cas’ voice admonishing him sometimes, it had taken on a nostalgic tone the last couple of days. The music wasn’t the same without Cas, but it didn’t make it worse.
God, did he miss him though.
Dean cleared his throat and took a hit, letting the mixed emotions have their moment until he carefully blew them all away. Lee was on fire and it was such a mesmerizing thing to watch him play as an audience member and not a collaborator. Sometimes he forgot how good his band was objectively speaking. The music and the energy of performing took over and they meshed making something magical, but beyond that Lee was a fucking genius on six-to-twelve strings.
They spent another twenty minutes laying it down and then broke for lunch. Dean checked his phone as Kevin and Ash hauled in the bags of take out that had been delivered to the front desk. Frank only let the local Chinese place deliver directly to the building, so it had become a weekly ritual instead of them constantly having to go out and find themselves sustenance in the middle of recording. Though Dean was slowly getting sick of it.
He had a couple of messages in their brother group chat from Adam about Christmas. The poor kid was stuck playing the messenger because Kate couldn’t bother to call him or Sam herself. There was a meme from Bela, of all things, and a check in from Ellen. Nothing from you. He thumbed down to the band business chat to see if you had at least been active there, but there was nothing since the shot of Crowley’s flowers.
At first they had thrown Dean for a loop, or a mild case of envy. Because he thought they were from that stupid gym rat waiter that had been hitting on you when he was trying to get to know Bela. But once he realized what chat it was in, it all made sense. Even if the weight of the flowers’ significance was lost on most of the band.
Huh. Dean thumbed to your one-on-one conversation and sent out a simple “Everything going okay?” It was weird he hadn’t heard from you, especially after you bowed out of his home cooked, post-adoption-event dinner. He squinted, realizing he hadn’t talked to you in over a week, since the morning of Bela’s charity gig.
Since he’d gone down on your best friend in the back of a limo.
Christ, way to be an entire dumbass.

The energy in the studio rallied, laughter and teasing rebounding after a slow start to their final day. Kevin had somehow got everyone to gang up on Sam, who now had a collection of post-it notes both insulting him and begging for violence slapped across his back. Dean took a pull off the bottle Lee had handed him and smirked as they watched Pamela saunter over to where Sam was checking his phone.
She pinched Sam’s waist, which made him turn and back away from her, hands up in defense as she muttered some of her bullshit. Which left Sam’s back undefended.
“Oh, man, this is almost too easy,” Lee whispered.
“Tell me about it,” Dean agreed, chuckling as Kevin slipped another square of embarrassment onto Sam’s shoulder, butting into Sam and Pam’s conversation with a smoothness Dean had never expected out of the Juilliard graduate.
He handed the bottle back to Lee and pulled his guitar around and laid on a G chord, bringing everyone back to reality. “Alright, last song. Let’s fucking do it.”
The bass and drum parts were already locked in as far as Dean was concerned. Vocals finished yesterday. but hearing it all together made the music what it was. He wanted this one all at once, the final piece to the puzzle of this impossible album. Ash was at the controls, behind him was Bobby and Frank, who had shown up for the last leg of recording. Each nursing their own glass of stupidly expensive Scotch.
It was so close to done, Dean couldn’t help the smile that pulled at his lips as he stepped up to the mic that wasn’t even recording. And waited until Pamela counted them in. Every sensation zeroed into that moment, the strings beneath his finger tips, the weight of his guitar strap, the earpiece in his ear, the carpet beneath his boots and the pick in his right hand. He closed his eyes and felt it.
And when he hit his entrance, he unleashed, nailing the take with his band at his side, crossing the finish line together.

“Charrrrlie!” Dean purred into the phone. “Your presence is requested at that one dive bar you like so much past Silver Lake. We wrapped today and you owe me a few rounds, your highness!”
Sam shoved Dean playfully and reached past the backseat for a bottle of water out of the cooler. Nerd.
“Sam says hi. Oh! Pick up Trouble and bring her with you, will ya? She’s been radio silent all week. Anyways, this message is about to cut out. But I know where you live and I will—” Dean lost the race with the time limit. He pressed the button to accept the message, however truncated and hung up.
Sam wiped his mouth off with the back of his hand. “The other driver knows where to go?”
“Don’t worry, Tiny will get everybody there and back safe, won’t ya big guy?” Dean teased the unamused man that sometimes doubled as security for the label.
“We’re all set Mr. Winchester,” Tiny answered Sam with a glance in the rearview mirror.
Fifteen minutes later, they pulled into the parking lot of an unimpressive neighborhood bar ten blocks east of anything that had gentrified. Not a bouncer or a pap in sight, thank fuck. Dean plunked his half finished beer into a cup holder and held the door open for Sam to get out, still giggling at the few remaining scraps of paper that had made it back onto his shirt after he found them when he unhooked his bass.
They met Lee, Kevin, Pam and Bobby at the other provided black SUV before heading inside. The bar was dark for a sunny December workday afternoon in southern California, but the stale beer smell and the sight of well worn pool tables felt like home more than any vegan, new age-y, upstart lounge ever did.
“Dibs on first game!” Dean called over his shoulder as he made his way to the bar to open a tab before Bobby could beat him to it. Wisely, Sam followed and plucked a menu out from a condiment tray, food was needed if they were gonna stay on their feet. Dean smiled at the bartender, a grizzled woman probably close to Annie’s age.
“Whatcha need sugar?” Her smokey greeting.
Dean instantly thought of Ellen back home and he knew they made the right call coming all the way out here. He dragged out his credit card and slid it over.
“Open a tab, food and drinks on this card for any of those assholes by the pool tables, all night. Got it? The guy in the trucker cap is gonna try and outrank me, but don’t let him, capische?”
“You got it, handsome. What’s your poison?”
Dean cooed, “Oooo, careful, it’s still early. I’ll start with some wings if you got ‘em and a couple of baskets of fries, gotta ease into it. Then a round of shots of your choosin’ and a couple of pitchers of beer if you’d be so kind.”
“You got it. I’ll bring ‘em out when they’re ready. Anything for you big fella? Or is he sharing?” She asked Sam.
“I’ll have the club sandwich, but yeah, I think that’s it for now,” Sam smiled without teeth, but tucked a twenty into the tip cup to start off on the right foot.
“Sounds good boys, it’ll be right out.”

Madison and Annie showed up together sometime after six, but as much as Dean liked giving Sammy shit for having a legitimate girlfriend and everything, they weren’t who Dean was watching the door for. Annie grabbed him for a tight hug, ruffling his hair as she pulled back.
“Feel good, don’t it?”
Dean grinned, almost blushing, but knowing she got it, not just the rush of finishing an album, but doing it as he was trying to drag himself up a hill too. “Couldn’t have done it without you, you know.”
Annie smacked her lips and turned on an aloof air, “I know. I mean, of all the many washed up power ballad divas out there, you got pretty lucky.”
“Shut up. Nobody is gonna call you washed up, not if I have anything to say about it.” Dean gestured the bartender over, who he learned was named Dawn, wanting to get Annie and Madison onto the massive bill they were racking up.
The night continued with the band and their significant others drinking and playing pool or pinball if you were Kevin. Dean was feeling pretty loose when Pam stagger-stepped over to him and threw her arm over his shoulder.
“This was a good call, miss those seedy dives we used to play in,” she said with a drunken kind of nostalgia in her voice.
“Hell, we wouldn’t exist without places like this,” Dean nodded in agreement, clinking his bottle of beer with the empty dangling shot glass in her hand.
She licked her lips. “Where’s your lady friend, hmmm? I wanna meet her already.”
Dean rolled his eyes. “Tonight is just for the band. And, well, Madison. But last thing I need is to ruin poor Dawn’s night with a bunch of fucking piranhas in here chasing the right shot.”
“Still—- doubt she’d show if it meant living it up in the low places,” Pam snarked.
Dean cleared his throat. “Hey now. Don’t go judging a book by it’s cover. Bela’s tougher than she looks.”
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” Pam huffed and slapped him on the back just as he tried to take a sip.
Dean glared.
Pam laughed. “Okay, boss, let me know when you’re ready for a rematch, I’m gonna go find the little girls’ room.”
“Don’t fall in!” Dean called after her, which earned him a middle finger and a nice view of her walking away in her low cut leather pants.
Yeah, Dean was feeling the alcohol among other things. He decided he had waited long enough and checked his phone again when suddenly somebody punched him in the arm.
“What’s up bitches?!” Charlie shrieked.
Dean’s entire mood lifted and he let her pull him off his stool into a big brother little sister hug. “Glad you could make it, red.”
“And, look, she lives!” Charlie stepped back and presented Trouble to him like a game show prize.
Dean swallowed. He felt lost looking into your eyes, searching for any hint of hurt or anger. Luckily, you weren’t drunk yet, so you slipped easily into his arms and gave him a hug of your own. “Hey.”
“Congratulations,” you said against his chest.
Dean squeezed tighter. “Thanks,” knowing he meant it more than he could ever say.

Stockroom Antics Master List
Maria had changed jobs numerous times over the last five years, more to keep herself safe than anything else. Her mother had told her she was a fairy but she thought it was just her mom being weird. Honestly, though, she had no other way of explaining what had happened to her that stormy day before she'd gone into a coma for two weeks.
Each chapter will have warnings. Pairing is Dean Winchester x OC
A/N: This one's written a little differently than my last one. Let me know what you think. It's the first time I've tried this type of writing. Chapters will alternate viewpoints as well. I also looked into an actual area so this one could feel more realistic.
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Chapter 18 Chapter 19 Chapter 20 Chapter 21 Chapter 22 Chapter 23 Chapter 24 Chapter 25 Chapter 26 Chapter 27
More coming soon, when I have time to write. A/N: I honestly have no clue how long this one will be. I'll keep going through, till it does finally end. With the turns it's been taking, I'm not sure how it's going to turn out. :) I love these kinds of things.
