Who is your favorite anti-hero?

I’m not 100% sure you can call him an anti-hero, but Damien is one of my favorite misunderstood characters. He wants so badly to belong, but his power of suggestion leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to doing the right thing. I don’t want to spoil anything, but after reading A Neon Darkness by @laurenshippen I totally understand where Damien is coming from in the Bright Sessions podcast and why he does the things that he does. My heart really goes out to him and I’m so glad Lauren gave us a little more of his story.

If you’re into fiction podcasts and audio dramas at all, I highly recommend giving @thebrightsessions a go. It’s basically like what would happen if the X-Men were in therapy dealing with their trauma instead of saving the world? It’s so good! If you’re not into podcasts, there are three books set in the world: The Infinite Noise (follows Caleb and Adam), A Neon Darkness (follows Damien), and Some Far Away Place (follows Rose). All three books (and the podcast) are incredibly queer and so so SO GOOD! The books are all technically stand-alone and supplemental to the podcast. Except for The Infinite Noise—it’s basically the first season from Caleb and Adam’s perspective. So if you do read it, and you like it, definitely give the podcast a chance.

Rated on how likely the jinn would be my friend

The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah- Qadir is the jinn with the largest role and I cannot decide if he would find me mildly amusing or mildly annoying. Either way, he would probably not be talkative and not view me as a threat or a priority.

The Daevabad Trilogy by SA Chakraborty- While the term djinn is a controversial one in this world, there are plenty of djinn to choose from. Nahri might be my friend, if she didn't see me as an easy mark (which is very likely). I would very much enjoy her company if she didn't have her defenses up. Ali would probably find me interesting as a human and ask me a mixture of interesting and boring questions. Both would care if I died, unlike Dara, who wouldn't care if he accidentally caused my death.

A Master of Djinn by P Djeli Clark- I don't want to cause any spoilers but our main djinn would absolutely find me adorable, if not easily manipulated. We could definitely have a few fun nights for sure.

This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi- Alizah would 1000% defend me with her life and successfully save it, but I am uncertain how receptive she would be to friendship, considering how guarded she is. I, however, would absolutely put in the effort for her.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir- If I remember book two correctly, I would absolutely never become friends with this jinn. And I think they would actively want to kill me.

The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker - Ahmed would not be friends with me and be very very rude to me, although he would not kill me. I would rather be friends with Chava, the golem instead. We would be besties.

Nayra and the Djinn by Iasmin Omar Ata-

Majan is a delight and I think we are likely to get along fairly well, although certainly not to the extent Nayra and Marjan have bonded. But we could tell each other stories and reignite some of the spark in each other's lives, encouraging exploration and connection. A fun and emotional time!!

Stardust by Neil Gaiman

If you have read other posts of mine you might know that Neil Gaiman is proably my favourite author. This story and I have some past problems, ever since I was a kid I did not like the movie at all and I had this general disinterest to the story. And although I couldn't remember a single thing about the movie in my adult life I never really had a priority to add this novel into my collection. Then I was gifter this copy by a friend who was unhauling some books and had two different editions of this novel, and I just gave it a try. I was pleasently surprised when I did not dislkie it as expected, I had this unmotivated prejudice, but I really enjoyed my time reading this book. It is not my favourite by Gaiman, it's not at the top for me, but I didn't hate it as I expected. I loved how much this novel feels like a big fairytale from start to end. That was a big reason for which I enjoyed it. The ending felt a bit too quick for my taste, but when I consider it as a fairytale it makes more sense. Since I haven't said anything about the plot yet, this is the story of a boy who goes on an adventure to collect a fallen star after he promises to the girl he loves that he would bring said star to her. He will have to go beyond a guarded wall near the town he lives in, which is a magical place full of magic, fairies and creatures. Of course he won't be the only one interested in finding the fallen star, but I won't say more about it to avoid spoilers. I can't said that I will never reread it, it was definitely the right book at the right time, because I needed something light and cozy, and it worked perfectly.

I finished Stardust by Neil Gaiman last week! It was quite a different book than what I was expecting, but I did like it!

The main character sometimes (almost always) made wrong life decisions and I could scream at him lmao. Overall a good book that I read in a few days :)

They say if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere! Celebrities can be found wandering the shops and giving impromptu performances all over Sims3City. There's live show venues everywhere and it's easy to see why they say this city runs on dreams yet never sleeps!

I found this absolutely gorgeous map: Waterfall Beauty and just had to use it to make my own city world save! This map did come with lots already designated so I filled it up with the best townhouses, apartments, and city life buildings I could find or make to make my own version of a mashup of Starlight Shores and Bridgeport.

INTERESTING CHARACTERS

Every sim comes to Sims3City to make it big! With a performance venue on nearly every corner, you're sure to see:

The Warflowers - These twins started a band and pulled some of their reluctant friends into it. They know once they got here to The City, they would make it!

Chloe and Bob Katt - always on the hustle to make people believe in magic again!

The Myth family is here, of course, living in the spookiest house!

Mirage Sable always seems able to make everyone else's wishes come true, hoping one day her only one will, too!

Candice and Arthur finally made it to The City when Candice got her book deal. Arthur is hoping to make it into the celebrity chef business...with a little help from his friend and now roommate, Derek. This new relationship has a lot of challenges being thrown its way, but this couple is determined to make it here and everywhere!

The Vireowing Fairy Sisters not only have beautiful voices, they love to bestow inner and outer beauty on all of those around them. That's perfect in a city that values beauty!

As with anywhere, crime can be overwhelming in the city but H & H Private detective family, Harmony and Henry, are on the case!

If you go at certain times of the day to catch a movie at Serena's Community Cinema, you might be able to see some of today's biggest stars working on set! You can pick up whatever you need at the big Sims 3 Market nearby and marvel at all of the old historical residential buildings before you head over to the Double Rainbow Disco Club for more dancing!

For those sims with a more exclusive taste, Club 112 in the historical section is the perfect lounge!

There's The Remaude Coffee Emporium Coffeehouse and Elixir Of Life Coffeehouse and shops for more live venues and fun in Sims3City!

After all of that excitement, the city folks like to visit the Stone Troll Mill Fishing Pond to unwind and maybe catch some dinner if they're lucky!

I wish there was more fantasy books with mroe feminine female main character

All the main characters who are female "don't like drsses" or "acts more like a boy" and the author tries to make them more reliable this way but I can't relate. Because I like pretty dresses and "acting" like a girl. Also theres nothing wrong with that either. A female main character can be girly while also being interesting.

Another note I wish to see more female character in fantasy books who don't fight. They can still be a strong character without needing to wield a sword. I want to relate to characters who are girly and can't fight because if I was in a fantasy world I would absolutely suck a wielding weopons lol.

There's nothing wrong with female main characters being traditionally girly and not being a fighter. Im tired of authors using the "not like other girls" trope for their female characters.

YES YES YES

The strong female character(tm) is rooted in misogyny. There's nothing wrong with female characters who present masc or pick up swords or engage in traditionally masculine activities, but it becomes a problem when it becomes a trend that in order for a woman to be strong, she must pick up a sword, fight, be outspoken/loud/brash/assertive etc. etc. etc. It becomes a problem when we pit these characters against other female characters with more traditionally feminine traits. (Favorite personal example is the way the fandom -- not necessarily GRRM but the fandom -- treats Sansa Stark vs Arya Stark and Danaerys Targaryen, and Alicent Hightower vs Rhaenyra Targaryen)
