Sirius placed the mistletoe back in Remus's hands, and whatever retort Remus might have come up with died away. Sirius's fingertips pressing into palms, the simplest of touches, was thrilling, and it was with effort that Remus dragged his gaze up to Sirius's face again.

Sirius, for his part, kept glancing back down at the mistletoe. "So, here we are," he said, adopting a ridiculous voice, "all alone."

"Good heavens, Mr. Black, I have a reputation to uphold!" Remus answered, grinning, his voice high and airy.

There was silence then, and Remus wondered if he'd crossed some invisible line.

"Traditions ought to be upheld, though," Sirius said, mostly addressed to his own hands, still holding the mistletoe, with bits of the ridiculous orange tinsel attached.

"I suppose?" Remus said, confused.

Sirius didn't give him time for more questions, though, shoving the mistletoe back into Remus's grasp and moving forward until their mouths met. Remus felt his lips part in an unconscious sigh, as though this were the most natural thing in the world. Sirius's kiss was searching and slow, his thumb brushing lightly across Remus's cheek.

Sirius broke away and took a step back, his eyes blown wide and guileless. Remus's heart was thudding in his chest, and the fragile moment stretched out between them.

Summary:

Remus’ eyes met Sirius’ over the cookie, and he grinned. There were crumbs on his jumper — a hideous woolen thing, incidentally, and one that Sirius wouldn’t ever dream of replacing — and for a moment Sirius contemplated plucking one from the fibres of the woollen monstrosity, just to have an excuse to touch Remus. 

But eating a crumb off your best mate’s jumper violates certain boundaries; boundaries that Sirius has been working increasingly hard to observe these past months. 

Some of his torment must have shown in his face, because Remus quirked a questioning eyebrow at Sirius, his mouth and tongue doing sinful things to his fingers — ostensibly in the name of licking them clean. 

“Alright, Pads?” 

Sirius blinked. He had been doing that thing again, he knew. That thing where he stared at Remus like a starving man might stare at a perfectly-cooked restaurant steak. One with those delectable grill-lines and the slightest hint of pink juiciness in the middle. 

Damn, now Sirius was aroused 𝘢𝘯𝘥 hungry.

Look out soon for VJs calling for vid suggestions and possibly premieres. We’ll also have panels including: Anatomy of a Vid Aspects of Aspect Ratio Women Behind the Camera Year in Vidding A major update - this year we’re trying something new with the group vidding workshop! The workshop is a big part of the VidUKon experience, but our new hybrid format presents some additional challenges compared to a fully offline or fully online workshop. So this year, we’re taking the workshop back online, moving it to a pre-con challenge with a longer timeframe, and making some other changes that we hope will retain the chaotic spirit of the workshop while making both running it and participating in it a bit simpler. Watch this space for more detail soon. And finally, we’ve chosen a theme for this year’s vidder-submitted themed show! The theme is Antagonism. Whether it’s nemeses, enemies to lovers, villains or feuds, we want your vids all about hostility, rivalry, contention and opposition. More details coming soon on exactly how to submit. The deadline will be May 6. Premieres are particularly encouraged but back-catalogue vids are very welcome too. Festivids 2022 -- a few recs :)

I knew almost none of the sources in this year’s Festivids collection, but fortunately you don’t always need to know the original to appreciate a good vid. I have only looked at a small portion of the collection, but here are a few recommendations for vids I really enjoyed!

Got the Time by usuallyhats (The Adventures of Tintin animated cartoon, 1991) SUCH. A. CHAOTIC. GOOD. TIME. This vid is so energetic & kinetic, I can feel the serotonin hitting my bloodstream as I watch -- a total lark!!

Handmade by feedingonwind (LiZiqi YouTube channel) An incredibly soothing, beautiful, fulfilling tribute to a young Chinese woman who shares very aesthetic YouTube videos showing her process for crafting home projects and lovely clothing. Just makes you feel good about life.

Weapon of Choice by JetpackMonkey (Busby Berkeley musicals). An incredible fever dream of a tribute to this inimitable subgenre of highly geometric 1930s insanity.

Black Tie by such_heights (A League of Their Own TV series, 2022) This was a tender and joyous celebration of the show’s many queer characters and is overflowing with beauty and pure 1940s ambience. The song could not be more perfect.

Rita by Rhea (Little Women South Korean TV series, 2022) OK, so this is 1) set in the modern day and 2) the subplot that this vid focuses on has absolutely nothing to do with anything in the Little Women novel, though I assume the series as a whole connects somewhere to the original story. None of that matters though, because this is a sumptuously beautiful distillation of pure longing that is breath-taking despite my total lack of context.

Where Is the World Going? by Dee_Laundry (120 battements per minute / BMP: Beats per Minute, 2017) As the summary says: To quote suzanne_f, "It’s about a) French people b) doing activism c) by arguing a lot with each other about d) prison reform and populism. It’s also very much a movie made about the AIDS epidemic by queer people."  ACT UP Paris in the early 1990s. Subtitles for the song are available in both French and English, and I’d recommend using them -- there are some powerful lyrical matches. This vid was deeply beautiful and inspiring, and far less bleak than one might imagine given the subject matter, though not soft-pedaling the reality either.

That’s What I Am by larissabernstein (Victor/Victoria, 1982) A very charming vid with a song that could not be more perfect!!

Don’t Forget You’re Precious by bingeling (Severance TV series). I haven’t seen this show but I know the premise and this vid is a hauntingly precise illustration of it.

Beverly Hills by Tafadhali (Columbo TV series) LOL, I already reblogged this one but can’t leave it off my official rec list! A very funny vid about this crumpled newspaper of a man as he shuffles his way through each case, the embodiment of an unassuming wrecking ball tearing through the schemes of glamorous villains.

Or could it be Torchwood's newest member, JJ Namkung, who needs just a bit more training on his new alien lifestyle? No! The task falls to one Rhys Williams, manager Secret Agent Man. It's a difficult job, but if anyone can protect the population of Cardiff from potentially alien cupcakes, biscuits and tarts, he can!

Summary:

Sirius didn't crouch down to tuck the coat under Remus's shoulders, didn't press a soft kiss to Remus's forehead the way he wanted.

Comments:

In a nutshell: Christmas. Sirius pinning and loving Remus in silence. And then they hug.

It's one of the most adorable fics I've ever read. The author's writing is so great, youthful and full of meaning. It makes you go though a wave of emotions while reading it: from laughing at Sirius' ridiculous thoughts, to feeling the ache of unrequited love, to melting with joy with the consequences of their hug. So cute and charming!

Illustrative quote:

Inside, Sirius took Remus's coat and tried to work out what on earth he had in his cupboards. His irritation at the world had completely vanished, replaced with that twisting, warm ache that Sirius had associated with being in Remus's company for longer than he cared to calculate. He made tea with too much sugar, moved piles of papers around as they talk, sat down at his rickety kitchen table across from Remus, not beside - all the small ways he'd learned to keep his hands occupied, to make sure barriers were in place. Anything to stop himself wanting so much, the instinctual desire to do something as simple as, Merlin so help him, hold Remus's hand.
