Yandere Hualian x reader.
Warning: In the fem reader's first life, she was the younger sister of General Pei Ming. She lived as a beautiful young woman loved by her brother, without caring that he was a womanizer. Then, according to Pei Ming's ascension story, when he was accused of treason and broke his sword. However, the reader remained in the mortal realm and was unjustly executed. After 800 years she is reincarnated again, but as a humble traveler, there she meets Xie Lian and Huan cheng (you decide how) after many adventures together. He then reunites with his brother, although at first he does not remember him, although Pei Ming insists that he was once his brother. Little by little she will remember her past life. In the end he has a relationship with Huan cheng and Xie lian, and when he remembers his previous life, he sadly dies, but some time later he is reincarnated again.
(I based this request on some Chinese dramas, thank you for accepting it.)
Oooh interesting, also my first heaven officials blessing/tgcf request yay!
Warning: noob author, female reader, yandere characters, and others.
Characters: hualian (hua cheng and xie lian).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were the little sister to pei Ming, you didn’t mind his womanizing ways but you always scold him to be careful as one of those woman he woo’s could seek revenge when he breaks her heart. Though not many gods knew about you as you had died a little after your brother ascended to godhood, falsely accused and executed over a misunderstanding along with how you were the little sister to pei Ming so they thought you had a part in the rebellion even though you were innocent, your brother couldn’t save you as he had only learned after your death that you were in trouble and it was already too late to save you.
Pei Ming has hope that you might reincarnated or turned into a ghost and he just couldn’t find you good enough. He has searched high and low for you, and when he gets frustrated he usually woo women’s hearts and release his frustration by having sex with them and leaving afterwards to continue searching for you after the stress and frustration is out of his body.
Pei Ming was right to think you reincarnated though it was only after 800 years had you finally reincarnated this time as a young female and humble traveler, each time you have left a place he would arrive missing you each time as you have never stayed in one place for too long which resulted you in meeting a nice young man by the name of xie lian who is a humble cultivator also traveling. You soon start having a crush on xie lian as he is such a kind person so it was no surprise when you started developing feelings for the young man.
On your journey with xie lian you meet many interesting people and fight against some enemies as well, though even when you can fight it’s not as good as two junior officials from the heavens and your crush; xie lian, fighting though xie lian always seems to be there for you no matter what and can protect you and your weak spots which warms your heart and love for him.
You soon met hua cheng when you had became a bride bait to lure out the ghost groom or also known as ghost bride as you all soon found out that the ones behind the disappearance of brides was a woman one who shared history with pei Ming, who you find familiar in name but can’t place where it was familiar. Pei jr saw you and noted to tell his father about you.
You later met San lang when he was with you while you and xie lian was riding a cart together to get back home to your little shrine in piqu village, later spending the night there with you and xie lian before the two junior officials came by again with another mission to banyue(?) pass. Many months later and many adventures later you, San lang who you later found out was hua cheng, and xie lian who you also found out later was a god, started a relationship together.
Pei Ming had soon asked xie lian if he could meet you as you very well could be his sister who finally reincarnated, xie lian at first was worried that pei Ming would flirt with you but soon found out that you were pei Ming’s reincarnated sister and let pei Ming meet you though with a subtle warning on if pei Ming hurt you he and hua cheng would show no mercy even if he was your past life brother. You were skeptical about the situation between you and pei as you had no memories and there wasn’t really any proof and pei Ming could have gotten the wrong person but after meeting pei Ming you kept getting memories of your past life but before you could celebrate on finding out the pei Ming is actually your brother you were sadly killed by a jealous woman who had mistaken you for pei Ming’s lover instead of sister.
The woman was soon tortured and killed by hua cheng, xie lian and pei Ming, thankfully the woman was a ghost so xie lian and pei Ming didn’t get in trouble on killing her if she was human, and even if she was it would be easy to hide that fact considering who the three were. Hua cheng and xie lian are now on the hunt for your next life with pei Ming as the two both love you and won’t let you go even after you die and pei had just found you he won’t lose your next life like he did last time which means he gives up on womanizing if it meant you won’t get hurt like you did last time. You won’t ever escape them and no one will ever take you away from them now.
(A/n: hope yall liked it!! I decided on making pei Ming a platonic yandere as I thought it fit plus since xie lian and hua cheng were already yandere i thought why not him too? lol anyway hope yall have a wonderful day/evening/night!!)
finished tgcf vol 8 last night (the main story, I'm still making my way through the extras), and I just... I cried so much T_T
even though I already knew most of what would happen. somehow that actually made it worse, I was full on sobbing at times (well I had also picked music to listen to so that also contributed but still)
I don't have the words to express what tgcf means to me, right now this is my absolute favorite book series I've ever read. and also... hualian... I cannot deal, I cannot deal with them, I've rarely ever had a love story affect me this profoundly
I also cannot overstate what an absolute pillar of support this story was for me this year. I picked up Volume 1 almost exactly one year ago, and from that moment on tgcf was like the lifeboat that got me through a really tough year where I was also sick more often than not (I'm disabled with chronic fatigue)
tgcf vol 1 was also the first book I'd read after ten years where due to various mental illness issues I couldn't read books at all, a crass contrast to how I used to devour them from the moment I was able to read. but then whatever was blocking me, it feels like tgcf just... allowed it to heal. that alone I consider an immense gift that I'm incredibly grateful for, as I had honestly feared I'd never be able to read books again
I'll miss this story so so much, but I'm also just so unspeakably grateful for its existence
also I'm very grateful for all the positive feedback and interaction my little analysis posts have received, I honestly didn't expect that at all when I started posting. I just had so many thoughts while reading and desperately needed to express them, but I thought surely no one else would be all that interested in them. so the attention is completely unexpected but very appreciated, thank you :')
speaking of I'll start posting my vol 8 observations at some point but I'm actually still not done with my vol 6 and 7 thoughts, because the more I read the more things started occurring to me. I also have some fanfic planned because I'm not ready to let this story go, not for a long time and probably not ever 🦋
My reaction to TGCF Season 2 Ep 4 (Part 4)
*MAJOR NOVEL SPOILERS*
Tumblr media
ASDFGHJKL
The beef has arrived.
Fuck just seeing them makes me fucking sad I cannot deal with this shit
Tumblr media
What is that smirk? Also is having red eyeliner supposed to be a gay and ghost king thing or what
Tumblr media
He looks so… majestic
I also want to beat He Xuan up and take care of him at the same time
I have very conflicting feelings on this man
Tumblr media
The fact that He Xuan had more makeup that Shi Qingxuan is interesting. But again, LESBIANS
“Yeah remember my big titty goth gf? This is her”
Tumblr media
…I feel like I misinterpreted who the beef and leaf were
Such good friends, really good friends!
*goes and ugly sobs in a corner*
Black Water arc is going to fucking DESTROY ME once it gets animated, and I really do not want that (I do)
Tumblr media
Uhh
Xie Lian, sweetie, I think you missed your landing
Wait bit why did they censor the lap landing? You had Hua Cheng carrying Xie Lian around bridal style in the first season, so what’s the excuse here? Censorship in China can be weird I guess. But I thought it wasn’t airing in the mainland… I’m confused now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHAT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHAAATTT
If this was a K-drama they would have kissed already
Hua Cheng is going to remember this for long, long time
Overall: Another great episode (if you ignore the racist scene). We got He Xuan Ming Yi! Oh who am I kidding, I already said his name anyway. I did say major spoilers, so if you ignored that, welp
But BeefLeaf! They hurt me inside, but that’s what makes them so great
I read this theory about how sqx and hx reincarnated into wwx and lz, which I liked but made me think and think and come up with my own theory.
Friendly reminder this is only supported by the voices in my head.
Spoilet alert for tgcf and mdzs
Okay so sqx eventually died as human and let's assume he did reincarnated. Now who do we know that loves fan and have a big brother who also ended up dying. That's right, sqx reincarnated as Nie Huaisang. His fascination for fans came from his past life, in which he used to use a fan as weapon and was powerful with it. This type of thing sticks with you.
But in this life time he has karma to clean, this karma is related to his brother, all the confused feelings that he had regarding all he did, how yet he didn't, he couldn't take revenge. This time is different, this time he could take revenge on his brother. He could have a more easy and swiftly closure with his brother, something that in his previous life he could never.
So he clear his karma by taking revenge for his brother this time.
Meanwhile we can assume or not that Nie Mingjue is the reincarnation of Shi wudu, his karma being quite heavy, besides the whole saber thing while alive, war, being betrayed, killed, and finally years as a resentful corpse. Heavy karma for a heavy thing that he did.
Going back to our beloved sqx. So after clear his karma as nhs, after he died he reincarnated in normal and peaceful lives, after all he deserved receive a lot of good karma.
That until he get in modern days, as he reincarnated as this nerd dude obsessed by a novel...
Now there's one thing missing to sqx and this is He xuan. Hx "lived" for years after sqx died, reincarnated and died again. Untill he himself "died" that would be more like his form as hx cease to exist, disappears, but nothing truly disappears, everything is energy and energy is transformed. So he next life form is naturally a bit different, cause is not exactly a reincarnation, cause he was already dead. So he ended up as a character in a novel, a fucked up character with tragic and dark life, he has karma to pay too. Being trapped in a novel is like being trapped in a loop, at least untill external forces interfere. As he was a ghost, yin energy he naturally ended up in a yin body as a half demon.
So yes, He Xuan now is Luo Binghe.
And Shi Qing Xuan is Shen Yuan.
Shen Yuan fascination for lbh comes from past lives even though he could never realize that.
Time for they meet. He transmigrates. One again he's is in a body full of magic, all he lost has returned to him. His powers, a brother, he can use his fan without anyone picking on him, as he wishes, and it just misses he xuan, now lbh. Than after the whole thing in svsss they finally are able to be together, with all karmas cleared, they can finally be happy together.
I would love to see you get into TGCF… BUT I feel like you wouldn’t actually like the characters unless you read the book. The Donghua is not 100% amazing at getting their full personalities across. Like with XL’s internal dialogue you miss a chunk of his personality his you take it away. Think of it this way…
book!XL *a woman is dying* ‘This is sad but she’s so ugly that she looks silly.’
Donghua!XL *No internal dialogue and woman is dying* We just see him comforting her and saying she did well.
oh I can see how that'd change my perception of the characters completely! I actually watched the first season of the donghua with my ex-girlfriend and found it extremely boring. The only times I perked up was around the Heaven officials but even that was a stretch. And then that goth dyke that's sometimes a dude (? i think?) that I see art of often, she's almost worth it TGCF is very nice visually but it has so much content already i'd feel like i'm not needed. i'm also always wary around MXTX books because they always toe the line of really good and really insufferable to me, but i always manage to find the good in them and focus on that. also I've heard that TGCF has one of the worst fandoms because it's the "pure" ship out of all MXTX ones and you can imagine the content police and high horses, just the worst of fandoms concentrated 😭 Honestly i'm willing to suffer both for the live action if it ever comes out though, as I really enjoyed the look of Xie Lian's actor so there is tiny hope!
Hi. Saw your opinion on non-canon ships in SVSSS. And I'm curious to what you think about BeefLeaf. Personally, I don't really like the idea very much. There was too much between HX and SQX to ever had a chance or to ever have actual chemistry to be a plausible couple. Idk know where this ship even came from besides the fact that they were sort of introduced together and SQX was the definition of clingy best friend while HX hid his true motives and personal vendetta against the Shi brothers. Also there is a god-awful amount of fics under this tag. Not as much as JWY/LXC 🤮 though.
Just asking if you're familiar with their arc.
Good morning!
I'm not much of a side shipper for MXTX works really, if anything I am simply maybe more dedicated to the potential of Lan Xichen and Jiang Yanli if I were to explore something in tandem with Wangxian. But I have to say that's really the most I am willing to really stick effort into for a transformative fic project.
I myself was more... interested, I guess, in the relationship in general for Beefleaf as it was in the story than anything else about TGCF.
Even from the point of it being a strange almost friendship Shi Qingxuan thought it was, and what He Xuan also wanted it to be in the midst of his own hate, vindiction and connection to him in turn. Plausibly, in the story itself, no I don't think there is any chance of an actual romance, as He Xuan has a lot of feelings to work through with what his hate against his love of Shi Qingxuan as a person vs the enemy he was for centuries in his mind. He Xuan was committed to the to see Shi Qingxuan as an end to a means. But, Shi Qingxuan also became more to him, and I think that is the thorn for it all.
He Xuan did end up caring more for him, than I think Shi Qingxuan even knew, and that's why they can't ever really come to an understanding. They hurt each other unintentionally and intentionally. Shi Qingxuan still sides with Shi Wudu after how much attention he gave to He Xuan. And He Xuan still wanted the Shi brothers to fall together despite what yearning he had, whatever it was, when he was with Shi Qingxuan. Yet He Xuan is still the one to follow him even after he has fallen to mortal. He Xuan is the most interesting party here, as time and again he almost gets what he wants yet tragedy follows him constantly despite his choices.
He killed the one person that Shi Qingxuan was willing to do anything for, someone arguably very vile to He Xuan. It's hard to come to terms that someone you have cared about, does not care for you as much, and has someone else already they would protect so much. It's He Xuan's yearning to be wanted by someone that doesn't even know how much he has hurt him, that is really haunting.
In that way a romance lens makes sense. But I also think there is so much to think about anyways, as these are two people who constantly missed the other while having the chance to be close, if not for awful circumstances from before never letting them be real friends. It does not need to be about romance, to still see all of the missed what if's if things had been different, but that's not the world that MXTX explores in her works, and all vindication has it's regrets when that's what one of her characters is obsessed with.
Yearning as well, can be a scary thing that haunts you.
First of all, thank you for accepting me in the fandom, and the platform in general. I am in no way shape or form, a professional review\analysis character but only a huge fan of TGCF , and I love to scratch the plot as a fan as well as a long time Danmei reader and share my little thoughts with the fandom. please feel free to call me out on my bs,i love discussions and food for thoughts.
The reason behind this post is to add my little two cents regarding something that, I believe in my humble opinion, is a little something about HuaLian that doesn't get enough attention. Hua cheng is portrayed as this romantic,obsessed bad boy, who has no interest or compassion towards others ( which to an extent is true, but i'll get into that in a bit), and Xie Lian being this good, oblivious meatbun, who made some mistakes and now just roams aimlessly in peace.
putting Hua Cheng in front of Xie Lian is literally like one of them looking into a mirror ( just with a different set of clothes hehe ) , and in order to explain my point I'll divide it into little parts,so this might be long but please bear with me.
- Arc and character development :
when we Meet Xie Lian at the beginning of the novel, we meet him at the end of his arc ( or close to it ), his rise and fall, taking responsibility and humbling himself, and realising his limits and make peace with it was already done in the past ( Book 2 and 4).What remains to complete his arc is him finding his happy ending, which is mainly: learn to love himself again ( and of course being with Hua Hua). loving oneself, is not limited to gaining confidence, or self worth, but it's also the gain of freedom to be oneself without any fear of judgement, including to love for one's selfish reasons : in the past, Xie Lian, loved his country, his people, his friends and his parents either because that's the natural thing to do or out of responsibility and commitment. However, his love for Hua Cheng is different: he fell in love, deeply to almost a damaging degree because he found THAT missing piece that will finally complete him, but as someone who always puts others first, this realisation was something new, extremely scary, but freeing . ( ''only after meeting you, did i realise is such simple thing to be happy").The same thing is applied to Hua cheng, we meet him at the beginning of the book, but at the end of his arc, he has matured, took control over his fate and changed it, avenged his God, and made himself the strongest to protect him, however his arc needed his happy ending to finally be completed : knowing he is worthy of love too ( and of course being with his Taizi Dianxia ).
Their arc, and character development is always mirrored through book 2 and 4, only it's backwards: they always meet at crucial points of their lives, when one is rising and the other is falling, yet at the same time being each other's light at the end of the tunnel,And I think that's MXTX's way of telling us that these two are destined soulmates despite the impossible circumstances surrounding them them . at the beginning of book 2 ( which is the start of their arcs) : in their first meeting, Xie Lian was this magnificent, privileged, powerful Crown prince destined to only greatness, who's confident, low-key arrogant ( and little sassy hehe ), loved by his parents, friends and people and overall at the highest points of his life,. While Hua Cheng, was this impoverished, bullied self hating child. who's abused by his family ( and it's heavily implied that his mother died out of illness), beaten by strangers, and is in so much pain and agony that he wishes to put an end to everything, himself included. This encounter resulted in Xie Lian ( being in the highest point ), saving Hua Cheng from falling to his death ( who was at his lowest point), but this encounter was the start of the change in both of their lives.
The second time they met, was in the Xie Lian small temple, at that time Xie Lian had ascended to godhood ( the highest level a human can reach ), and was dealing with the whole Yong'an fiasco, which would eventually be his downfall. At that moment, Hua Cheng was dealing with su*cidal thoughts, poverty, being homeless, hunger, bullying.. ( the lowest state a human can reach), in a moment of despair, He asked Xie Lian what is the meaning of life, since he is in such pain he doesn't want to live anymore, ' tell me God, what should i do?', to which Xie Lian asks to make him his reason to live, and if he doesn't have a reason, then he should live for him, making him that reason. This moment of guidance is also mirrored again in the present at the end of the novel, when hua Cheng was at the edge of dying. in a moment of despair Xie Lian broke down " no one listened to me talk for years, just tell me what should i do ?", to which Hua Cheng replied that he is Xie Lian's most devoted believer, and as long as Xie Lian is in this earth, he will refuse to die. Of course, we need to read a little between the lines here, there was no doubt that if a God has no believers, or statues he will vanish from existence, but what kept Xie Lian alive up until this point, was his one true believer's existence : Hua cheng, and because of his Love and devotion he will defy death itself to come back and live, and continue on living for Xie Lian, the ame way Xie Lian is the reason that kept ( and still keeping ) Hua Cheng alive.
A third, and important instance and the real changing point in both of their arcs is in book 4 : When Xie Lian met Wuming ( Hua Cheng ) as Bai wuxian. The outcome of this interaction was : Hua cheng dying a second time, sacrificing himself to save Xie Lian's humanity, while Xie Lian deciding to take responsibility for his deeds, Resulting in Xie Lian's second banishment, getting his powers sealed, his Luck sucked dry, and becoming a magnet to evil fortune, and finally he become this nobody, impoverished scrap collecting guy, living for the sake of living. While Hua Cheng's fate changed, raised as a ghost king, his luck turned from bringing disasters to bringing only good fortune, and the rest is history.
After this, the two never met again. Part of it is due to Xie Lian's bad luck, but another part is that their character development is almost completed, and what remains to finally give it closure is their final meeting.
There are many other instances like this throughout the story which i won't go into all of them all otherwise i would be writing for days hehe.
- character treats :
Hua Cheng is described as this nonchalant, non caring ,cold, sassy, strong, know-it-all guy, which are all true characteristics of his. He's also known for not caring about anyone who isn't Xie Lian, not even himself. Xie Lian is no different either, but a lot of those character threats are not as obvious as Hua Cheng's for the simple reason that Xie Lian is polite, and keeps most of his thoughts to himself. Xie Lian is very snarky, and thankfully because we are reading the novel from his point of view, we get to know when he is mentally rolling his eyes, or being genuinely annoyed with something. Xie Lian also forgets everyone's existence when Hua Cheng is present, he's just a little low key about it. I think the reason why one is outspoken about how he feels while the other keeps it to himself, is how the two were raised and brought up : Xie Lian after all was a royalty, a crown prince who was properly educated, although we know there were times where that education was blown away by the wind ( ehm book 4 ehm ), reason why he isn't lacking any manners ( and it will be unfair to say Hua cheng does, only he feels that his good manners are only for his Dianxia, he doesn't care too much if the rest of the world found him rude), but also, because Xie Lian was born, and raised in privileged environement , he was always surrounded by good, and hope since he was little, everyone was nice to him, respected him and loved him, or at least pretended to be, after all he was the king and queen's only child.Unlike Hua Cheng who was born into poverty in an abusive environment, he only saw the evil side of humanity since he was a child, making it very hard for him to have the slightest consideration to anyone's feelings, or at least feel obliged to be nice to anyone. After all, no one was ever nice to him, so why should he burden himself with casual formalities ? Of course, other than being sassy queens, the two of them also share the same insecurities : Both Xie Lian and Hua Cheng thought they were unworthy of love. Both of them were petrified by their past selves, and both of them made peace with the idea that they're destined to be alone.
- Morals :
Both Hua Cheng and Xie Lian shared the same views, that in my humble opinion summed up the message behind TGCF : first, Fate is something that can be changed and controlled, thus you get to decide which path you walk in, and when you do, you should accept the consequences of it. Second, when you love someone, you love them for who they are, in their glorious and lowest moments, and not for what they are.
The two expressed these ideologies throughout the book simultaneously, but I think Hua Cheng takes the credit for this more than Xie Lian in the fandom : Hua cheng told Xie Lian in HX arc : "the one standing in infinite glory is you; the one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is 'you' and not the state of you", but Xie Lian also told Hua Cheng in the Banyue arc : "If I like you, you can be a beggar and I will still like you. If I dislike you, you can be an emperor and I will still dislike you". and this is one of the reasons why the two support each other's decisions despite sometimes not agreeing ( like the Gambles den for example) .
Hua Cheng Also made it clear, that people have the freedom to choose which paths they walk on, himself included.it doesn't matter if you would succeed or fail, what matters is are you brave enough to take that step, and stand up for what you believe in. This way of thinking is expressed by Xie Lian over and over again as well, especially through the first book, when he openly defies the heavens or when he chooses to create a third path, one that aligns with his own beliefs .
- Love for each other :
Hua Cheng's Love started in the past, while Xie Lian's in the present. I see a lot of comments saying that Hua Cheng falling in love was too easy and didn't make sense. isn't that what love is ? emotions are never meant to make sense. With that said, Hua Cheng feelings started as a child's admiration, and slowly turned to love and a deadly obsession ( deadly to himself since he died for his love three times ) and it only kept on growing every time he met Xie Lian and got to get a little glimpse on who he TRULY is ( keep in mind that of all people, Hua cheng was the only one who saw Xie Lian at his best, and at his worst). The same also happened with Xie Lian, he met Hua cheng for the "first" time on the ox Cart, and instantly thought "damn bruh ,you fine AF!", to the point he couldn't look at him directly into his eyes without feeling uncomfortable ( which reminds me of a similar incident in book 1 :  when Xi Lian was with Hong Hong Er in the cart, having the same conversation they are having on the current Ox Cart, which is Hua Cheng introducing himself and telling Xie Lian that he has nowhere to go.Hua hua was also so shy he couldn't look at Xie Lian straight in the eyes without blushing --> remember what i said about mirroring their experiences ? *wink**wink ) , but this admiration only kept on growing until it reached an explosive, destructive level, especially after finding out who Hua Cheng is to him. Hua cheng might have died for Xie Lian before, but i have no doubt in my mind that Xie Lian would do the same for Hua cheng in an instant : remember in the last extra ( the birthday gift one ), Xie Lian, while dealing with the most agonizing pain, he ran away looking for Hua cheng; and held into him with a deadly grip more than he would held into his own life, asking him to stay by his side and never to leave him again : he can take the pain, he can take thousands of swords piercing his heart, but he can't take Hua cheng being away from him.
Overall, in my humble opinion, although Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are present as different individuals ( which they are in some aspects), they also have so much in common that I feel it's a crime not to point it out.
watching TGCF S2 episode 2 💞
I almost forgot Hua Cheng's luck making it so the gambler's daughter doesn't lose her lifespan. He's so real for that.
Tumblr media
🤭
Omg, chibi wind master!
Beat his ass, LQQ.
The subtitles I'm using are...strange. There's supposed to be a joke on how immediately after SQX & Xie Lian say they hope LQQ doesn't reveal his identity...he reveals his identity. I can hear him say his name, but the subs don't reflect that, so the joke misses when Shi Qingxuan & Xie Lian deflate.
Hua Cheng literally turning the table on LQQ.
I'm really liking the ghost designs so far.
I love the dead silence when HC has something to say.
Tumblr media
🙁
I just know Hua Cheng's soooo happy he found a reason to be close to Xie Lian.
Is it really love if you don't have a shared gambling moment while a large group watches?
Tumblr media
Their flabber is completely gasted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His expression change about the steam bun lmao
Also am I stupid, or does Xie Lian's hat no longer have the extra fabric?
Tumblr media
Soft expressions of adoration, by beloved.
Him still gazing at Xie Lian while letting Lang Qianqiu down...
The way he lift the curtain up reminded me of when he did the same back at Puqi village (I think right after Xie Lian did San Lang's hair?). Speaking of...I still miss Donghua!San Lang...
Xie Lian running right after he saw Hua Cheng put the bun to his lips pfft. Also Hua Cheng taking a a bite right where the bun was already being eaten from...I see you HC.
"He must of used his real face when he first met me *little smile*"
And EP over!
So we've had a little FengQing... We've of course has some HuaLian... BeefLeaf....your time will come soon
so I saw this post and my brain went jyl ascends au, but make it a tgcf crossover
--
“Excuse me, Your Highness,” The voice that calls out to Xie Lian isn’t one he’s heard before, nor does he recognize the young woman as he turns around to face her, though nervousness is plain on her face as she regards him carefully.
Truly, Xie Lian wasn’t planning on staying long in the heavenly realm, who knows what messes Qi Rong could make even while tied up, but he still smiles and waits for the young woman to speak, “Have we met before?”
“We haven’t,” The young woman shakes her head before extending a quick curtsey, “I ascended a few years before you, my name is Jiang Yanli.” Xie Lian wonders which ascension Jiang Yanli is referring to, but he knows better than to ask, it wouldn’t help much anyway. Old officials were being replaced with newer gods every so often, Xie Lian never planned to keep up.
For a long, long moment, Jiang Yanli shifts her weight back and forth, her fingers wound tight in her own pink sleeves as she looks at Xie Lian. “My apologies, Your Highness, someone at the Palace of Ling Wen told me that you spent much of your time wandering the world before your ascension. I only meant to ask if you’d run into someone during your travels.” Jiang Yanli speaks slowly, taking her time with words and sounds, and it’s then that Xie Lian notices the scar at her throat. Swallowing, Jiang Yanli pushes herself further, her knuckles nearly white now. “I also heard from fellow officials that you’re familiar with Crimson Rain Sought Flower and his Ghost City.”
Xie Lian doesn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. Where had she heard all of this? Xie Lian doubts she means any harm by it, but guilt and worry both stain Jiang Yanli’s face equally.
“Could Miss Jiang tell me who she’s looking for?” Miss had to be a safe bet, didn’t it? Xie Lian hadn’t heard about any princesses or queens ascending lately.
“My younger brother, A-Xian-- Wei Wuxian,” Jiang Yanli answers readily, one hand reaching up to her throat, “He might’ve told you that his name is Yuandao because he likes to play tricks. He has a smiling face. He died just after I ascended, but I haven’t been able to locate his spirit at all.”
The name Wei Wuxian sounds familiar, but Xie Lian can’t place it, nor can he remember meeting a Yuandao during his travels, but he isn’t prepared for the disappointment that spreads over Jiang Yanli’s face as he shakes his head. “Is there a possibility that your younger brother’s spirit has moved on already?” It feels too intimate to ask, but there’s no avoiding it.
“A-Xian didn’t have the nicest death.” Jiang Yanli answers him sadly, “I’m sorry for taking up so much of Your Highness’ time.” Jiang Yanli curtseys again and turns to leave, her hand still at her throat. Xie Lian doesn’t know why he does it, but the words are already out of his mouth.
He promises to tell Jiang Yanli if he hears anything or sees anything about her younger brother the next time he visits the heavenly realm.
And When I Look In My Window, So Many Different People To Be by CowgayKermit
If you were to go looking for Klaus, you wouldn't look to the alleys where drugs are bought, or to a rave where you could lose yourself in dance, no. No, you would look to his garden full of protective herbs, to his bedroom at three in the morning where he tends to make magic amulets. Klaus grew into his power, both as a witch, and as the Séance.
The End Times Are Blue by Jumblejay
Klaus’ skin is cold as death, just like the rest of his siblings had been. Five lets his hand linger for a moment, steeling himself, preparing to grab on tight and haul the corpse to its grave.
What he’s not expecting is for Klaus to suddenly take in a deep, shuddering gasp, cough harshly, and flail around until he slips off the mound of rubble he’d been lying on with an abrasive clatter.
Five snatches his hand back with a shriek and stares wide-eyed as Klaus props himself up on his hands, blinks hard, and glances around at his surroundings until his eyes catch on Five.
“Oh, shit,” Klaus says, looking almost as shocked as Five feels. “Five?”
Five promptly bursts into tears.
If I understand my third hand rumors correctly, the 7seas translation was not done from scratch. They hired the person doing the best fan translation (suika) and polished it. Now I’m seeing posts like the 魔道・鬼道 debacle from earlier this morning and a lot of people saying “screw you, official translation. I’m going to read the exr one.” All I know about the exr translation is that it hasn’t been c&d’ed by the powers that be yet. So it is by default more accessable than the old suika translation. I have absolutely no idea about quality control. May I humbly request your opinion?
So you’re missing one very important piece of information on former unofficial translations there; which is that Suika was never doing Modaozushi. She was doing Erha and TGCF, but not Modaozushi. When 7Seas brought them on board, she took up MDZS on top of that even though there were already two big translators doing much more solid translations than what we’ve actually gotten. The two actual powerhouse partial translations were Fanyiyi and Taming Wangxian, not Suika.
Exiled Rebels Translations is clunky, but it is also complete. We have the whole work, we know what errors there were and as a fan translation done by a 17 year old in high school who spoke three languages, it’s frankly quite astonishing that it’s as good as it is. But you can currently only read the first twenty chapters on their website and the rest are locked unless you happen to find someone who has their own pdf (like me)
The biggest things between ExR and 7Seas are that ExR’s missing line is a relatively small one in the prologue, but 7Seas keeps either dropping really relevant lines or doing stuff like the WWX calling his own cultivation demonic when he is very emphatic on it being ghostly at all times in the book, which I personally find a much more grievous insult than ExR’s clunky word choices and until I have access to a better full English translation, I too will be sticking with them over 7Seas.
I hope this helps clarify!
So I finally finished reading TGCF! (The main novel, I haven't gotten to the extras yet). I watched the first season of the donghua ages ago (right after I watched what was available of the MDZS donghua at the time and before I read the MDZS novel), then started reading TGCF as the first volumes of the official English versions were releasing and fell off.
My original plan was to "catch up" through book 5 and just keep up with the official releases. As soon as I finished book 5 I immediately abandoned that plan and went straight to the fan translations (whatever, I'll still be buying the officials as they release so I don't feel too guilty about it).
Anyway, I am feeling..... surprisingly normal about this book? I enjoyed it and had fun reading it and so far have not felt any inklings of obsessive derangement over it.
(Extremely long and rambling first impressions/thoughts after a single quick read below the cut, probably not that interesting. May contain major spoilers, and sorta comparing it to MDZS and specifically JC a bit just because the comparisons get pushed a lot because of the overlap in the fandoms)
Anyway, as a Jiang Cheng Enjoyer I've fairly often seen people say things like 'you should just read TGCF, Mu Qing is actually what JC stans wish Jiang Cheng was' or 'Mu Qing is Jiang Cheng but done right' and I just....... kinda don't see it?
Anyway... Is it just me? Am I stupid and missing something?
I mean, there are some obvious parallels and MXTX very clearly has a pattern/dynamic/formula she likes with the 'best friend side characters' slot, re-used some similar surface-level descriptions for Mu Qing that had been applied to Jiang Cheng (bad-tempered, sarcastic, unlikable, good looking, etc). So I'm definitely not saying people are totally wrong for seeing a connection there.
But they didn't actually feel all that similar to me beyond a handful of traits? And not only because of the tragic lack of jilfy purple electro-whip.
I think part of the problem is that Mu Qing suffered from a serious case of "tell, don't show" in his portrayal... in the text we're being told by other characters that he's so unlikable or has such a nasty personality or is so untrustworthy... but then rarely or never actually says or does anything "on camera" to show that?
Like, this isn't "he has done nothing wrong!" in the "I shall protect this precious blorbo of my heart" way, it's in the "ummmmmm... he has actually... not done anything wrong in this situation...? And I am confused as to why these characters are reacting to him in a way that is so wildly out of proportion to what has actually happened?"
As much as I love Jiang Cheng, he does at least actually say some mean things "on screen" in the novel to earn that bad-tempered sharp-tongued characterization. I might personally think he was perfectly justified in saying about 98% of them and being pissed as hell, but at least he actually does the being angry and bitter and verbal lashing out that he's characterized with. (Though I think he actually does a lot less of it than people seem to think, as most of the time he's just being pretty normal actually. But there are some scenes at least.) Of course, conversely, Wei Wuxian does also do many more actually bad things to balance it out too and make JC's on-screen anger/reactions make a lot more sense.
But Mu Qing on the other hand... a few snippy comments and some eye rolling? Everything else always ends up being someone else baselessly accusing him based on some accidental circumstances that got cleared up with reasonable explanations. His involvement in the whole turf war over the meditation place was mostly him showing up after the rest of them had already made up their minds and he was trying to de-escalate the situation without losing the job he was using to support his mother with or creating more problems.
The only kinda bad things I think he does (be okay with the idea of using the Human Face Disease against the Yong'an people to stop it from spreading in the Xianle capital city) is one of the few things that nobody actually has any issue with him for! You could argue that it was bad to get Hua Cheng kicked out of the army... but also he was 14 and there are no actual details given and tbh that kid was kinda creepy from an outside perspective (even if I liked him)...
To be honest I'd seen a few people making vague comments about his "betrayal" in the past so I knew it was coming, but "I'm gonna go take care of my mom instead of doing these former rich fuck's laundry" was so deeply underwhelming on the betrayal scale I was like "wait, that's it?"
I mean there was not even a siege involved...? Not a single declaration of hatred? Not even a little bit of threatened torture?
Anyway, I was already still feeling some kind of way about that royal laundry situation when I got to the scene in Mt Tonglu where Mu Qing is all "I was in awe of you, you're a better person than me and I wanted to be your friend" while Xie Lian is like "um well you'd spit in someone's cup but you wouldn't poison it so I don't want you to die I guess."
I just felt sort of vaguely put off by the whole exchange and the sense of a total lack of reciprocity from Xie Lian. His whole vibe is "well I don't dislike you enough to let you die, and saving people is my thing in general so, y'know, here I am saving you."
Because what made the whole dynamic work in MDZS was how (even if the characters didn't necessarily know it about the other) they just cared about each other so much, to an absolutely unhinged degree, and that felt missing here. So even though WWX has some of the same vibe of negative or resentful opinions of JC at points, it hits different because they're laid on the backdrop of an utterly unhinged sacrifice specifically and uniquely for Jiang Cheng (which, unknown to WWX, was needed because of a more standard in type but but still unhinged sacrifice of his own that was specifically and uniquely for WWX)
I don't necessarily mind that specific relationship being different or less intense in TGCF (in fact I prefer that it's not just a copy-paste of the same characters going by different names with a bit more polish, the way some people made it sound like it would be), but the way that specific scene played out given the backdrop of how MQ keeps getting treated throughout the rest of the story just felt icky to me. Idk.
A lot of the way the characters interacted with each other just felt like the action and reactions were a little mismatched or something? Something about the behaviors involved didn't ring as painfully, horribly, clearly true to me as they did in so many MDZS scenes.
Anyway I did enjoy both Mu Qing and Feng Xin as characters, I'll definitely be indulging in some FengQing content (recs/links welcome if anyone actually read this far lol), just specifically their relationship with Xie Lian did not inspire in me even a teensy fraction of the depths of absolute feral obsession that the Yunmeng Shuangjie relationship does. It... just did not resonate that way with me. If I had to speculate (in a wild and baseless fashion, source: my ass), I think that toning down the intensity might have even been intentional on the author's part this go around.
Anyway a lot of that was mostly because the expectation of a strong parallel and deep reaction to the Xianle trio's relationship was pre-planted in my mind, and such expectations are generally always doomed to fall short anyway.
As far as the rest of the novel, like I said - it was generally quite enjoyable, I had fun reading it, I'm certainly not trying to trash it! I'd say I actually overall enjoyed the HuaLian relationship developing in the novel itself more than WangXian, in terms of how the flirting was executed. Like "what if you had an extremely dangerous and fervently obsessed stalker, but also make it cute". I don't dislike WangXian, but for me their relationship was just a fun side-plot and not what I really cared about or kept reading for. I did find the Hong-er and lantern ghost flashback scenes quite touching and sweet.
The first ~200 chapters (by the web novel serialization chapter numbers) I'd say were generally constructed better than MDZS, so I see where people say there was a bit of a level up there. The last ~40ish chapters the pacing felt kind of off to me, like there was just too much crammed in and MXTX just wanted it to be over and done with.
The 'uncovering secrets of an ancient lost empire/kingdom' type of plot is my absolute jam, my favoritest trope of all time, I actually loved the concepts there. It was like a two-for-one, since we got the learn about the fall of Xianle which scratched that itch a little bit, and then the full-on mystery aspect with Wuyong. I wish there had been more time spent on the mystery/uncovering information about Wuyong aspect of the plot rather than the answers coming relatively quickly.
Unsurprisingly in addition to Feng Xin and Mu Qing, I was a huge fan of Yushi Huang, Ling Wen, Shi Qingxuan, He Xuan, Lang Qianqiu (his adorable golden retriever energy is irresistible when combined with a Tragic Backstory), Guzi, Yin Yu, Quan Yizhen
Surprise favs were Pei Ming (I'd only seen through the donghua S1 so I kinda had him categorized in my mind as the offscreen God of Fuckboys, but ended up liking him an unreasonable amount) and Qi Rong
Anyway I had all of these thoughts while I was reading then felt a bit guilty about them when I read the postscript because I am the person she was afraid of coming over to read TGCF after MDZS :x
