Meaning behind the URL: I adore William Shatner’s Captain Kirk, and when I was finally strong-armed into playing Pokémon Go, I wanted a name that reflected my Trek love to all the Poké-people but that was also Poké-relevant, so... Jim Kirk = yellow/gold/cute/happy, Pikachu = yellow/gold/cute/happy, it just all came together and I liked it so much I carried it over to Tumblr when I got going here. 🙂

I fall so far behind on these that I can't keep track of who's done them or not, lol) (Also, this got way out of hand and I wrote, like, a novel here, so just disregard me in general 😅 EDIT: I’ve tossed a keep reading in here because YIKES.)

Let's start with something really random, eh?

- So... bathmats are supposed to be, like... the thing you step on after a shower when you’re still wet so that your tile or bathroom rug is spared the dubious effects of direct contact with water, right? Well. One of the quirks I have thanks to my OCD is that at least my feet and legs have to be completely dry before I can step out onto my bathmat. Preferably, I’m mostly dry all over before getting out, but I will not set foot on it until my feet are dry. The less water ends up on that thing, the better; usually I can keep it contained to the random drops that fall from my hair (of which there is a lot). Yes, I even do this in hotels and at friends’ places when I stay over. I guess I’m weird about bathmats because it squidges me out when someone else has used the same bathroom/shower and I step out onto a mat that’s already wet. *actual full-body shudder* BLECH! 😅 Oddly, though, I've actually never told anyone I know in person about this. So at least I apparently don't expect anyone else to conform to this insanity... which makes it... okay that I do it... right? 😞

- Another OCD tendency of mine is that I feel I have to "earn" the privilege of reading any comments I get on my AO3 or K/S Archive stories. I arbitrarily decided at some point that one comment = 150 words on a work in progress, so I make myself write 150 words--whether polished or just quick outline stuff--on any ongoing thing I have in my drafts before I allow myself to read a comment. On the one hand, it’s a sort of effective way to motivate myself to write more, i.e. the classic incentive/rewards kind of system. On the other hand... I usually end up not getting to read comments for weeks at a time (because my writing hygiene is Very Poor™) and then feel terrible for not having responded in a timely manner. Isn’t it fun to live with this kind of brain???

- My drink of choice at Starbucks is a venti iced chai tea latte, with whatever the default milk is that they use. The first time I ever tried one was in roughly the summer of 2002, shortly after the Jackson adaptation of The Fellowship of the Ring was released and I subsequently developed [as many did] a wildly obsessive crush on Orlando Bloom. I’d read in some magazine or other that he liked iced chai tea with soy milk, so--naturally--I then had to at least try one (although without the soy, because... ughhhh I just can’t) in preparation for the day when I was finally over the age of legal consent and he would miraculously end up in central Illinois, bump into me because DUH I’m the only person living in the whole state, inevitably fall madly in love with me, and we’d get married and live happily ever after. Because even taking all those unlikely scenarios in stride, we all know that true love is... uh... ordering almost the same thing at a coffee shop? Anyway, I tried the drink and actually enjoyed it quite a bit, spent a few years trying various other [cold] things on their menu (I'm not a big fan of hot drinks) to be sure it wasn’t just a psychological thing, and eventually ended up returning to the iced chai on its own merits. I might never have tried it at all if not for Bloom’s gorgeous hair/bod/face as Legolas, so although I’ve [mostly lol] outlived my crush on the dude... thanks, bro--good tea, nice house!!

- The first fanfics I ever read (aka my gateway drugs) were romances between Professor Snape and an over-18 Hermione Granger (and which I found in... 2003? Order of the Phoenix was brand new, anyway). I don’t remember what exactly led me to them/why I sought them out, but I was immediately hooked as a Harry Potter/Alan Rickman/Professor Snape fan (yes, I was one of those freaks who trusted and loved him before his true allegiance and backstory were revealed), a frequent victim of the “cute teacher crush,” and a naive, sexually oblivious teen reading about the nitty-gritty of intimacy for the first time (romanticized though it may have been). If you’re interested, the first one I remember reading/following as it was updated was The Incident in the Great Hall by Acadia Elle, which I still reread every few years because it’s just... so beautiful and so very well written. ☺😍 *note to self: go read it again after finishing this post*

- Literally the closest I have ever come in my entire life to being "athletic" in any way/shape/form was being on my high school bowling team. (Well... there was a very ill-advised tryout for basketball in 5th grade that almost destroyed my lungs, and an embarrassingly brief a.k.a. one-single-meet-before-I-quit stint on the track team... I think I took 7th place in a 100-yard dash that only had 6 runners. Otherwise I was a video-games-library-books-and-musical-theater kind of kid.) I know this probably shows my advanced age, but... back when I was in high school, we actually had a bowling team, lol! And we would compete in a league comprised of teams from the other four or five high schools in the city, which was a lot of fun and gave me and my teammates superb opportunities to consume more than our share of Mountain Dew and hot fresh bowling alley cheese fries (and oh my GHAAAAAWD does life get any better than hot fresh bowling alley cheese fries??? I submit that it does not). We mostly were pretty mediocre as a team, although we did win our league's competition in my senior year! And on an individual level I can say that I started out junior varsity in my freshman year and actually improved enough to make varsity for a couple years, so there was a little personal accomplishment stuff going on there too. I had/have my own ball--it's a dark bluish-purple 10-pounder with glitter, so it's kind of like... a super cool spacey galaxy ball 😉--and shoes that probably wouldn't fit me anymore (I haven't hit he lanes in probably ten years, which makes me really sad because I really enjoyed it) (whoops nope I lied, the last time I bowled was about five years ago after my brother's wedding; neither he nor his wife are into dancing or typical American partying--THANK GOD--so instead of the now-typical dinner-and-dance [aka literal-hell-for-self-conscious-socially-anxious-people-like-me] reception, they had a bowling alley party and refreshments, which was AWESOME). But anyway, yes--I was on a team in high school that was considered "real" enough to warrant a patch for my letterman jacket! So it isn't exclusively covered in marching band and honor roll crap, lol. (I was a major geek... shocker, I know.) And nowadays, that's probably why I get so ridiculously excited any time I see people here on the Tumblr rediscovering and mentioning that the original series Enterprise had a bowling alley. Because HELL YEAH IT DID!!! 😎😎😎 It's the one area of a Federation starship where I might not actually be totally out of place. 😅

- My first ever stuffed animal was a green M&M plushy that my brother (who was four at the time) picked out for me when I was born. My dad had taken him to Toys R Us for a break from being in the hospital for, you know, like, forever, and I think the idea was for him to find some kind of prize for himself. But instead he chose a very happy, very squishy M&M friend and wanted it to go to baby!me. (My brother is a total sweetheart, in case you couldn’t tell.) I still keep my first plushy friend near my bed because I love him so very very much. By the way... his name is M&M Guy. Good, strong name, if I do say so myself. 😉💚😊
