Autumn’s Blood duel 🩸🍁🗡️
————————————
Been thinking a lot about the Autumn court’s blood duel. I remember it being rare to call for one . I want it brutal, scary, ritualistic and very unique to the court.
Red painting the duel chamber. Vines and leaves red from the blood spilled. Sprouting red flowers. Beautiful and terrifying.

We are not the same.
Some folks: SJM foreshadowed a blood duel between Azriel and Lucien in the Bonus Chapter to win Elain’s heart/claim his mate.
Me, an intellectual: SJM foreshadowed the blood duel in regard to Lucien because he will use it to save Elain’s life, likely from Beron, because this time he will be powerful enough to stop Jesminda’s fate from repeating itself again.

Let’s face it: if Az and Elain were mates, Az wouldn't have hesitated to eliminate any threats. Elain would not only have to deal with her transformation but also with the fact that her fiancé would be dead by Az's hands.
We've seen Az's ruthlessness firsthand, like when he attacked Eris over a comment on Mor's attire and when he eliminated everyone around Gwyn. Even after 500 years, he still wants to invoke a blood duel against Eris and would see it as a good riddance if Lucien were to eliminate Graysen.
On the other hand, Lucien controls his anger when Graysen is brought up and doesn't react to provocation, relying more on words than actions.
Gwyn represents a fresh start for Az, someone without romantic entanglements and whose first time was taken from her. Az needs someone who doesn't know his history with Mor, just as much as Gwyn needs someone she feels safe around.
It’s not coincidental that Gwyn's first impression of Azriel was him at his worst, and she admires it, grateful for his actions, unlike something she would learn later and have to accept. Gwyn's fascination with violence hints at her compatibility with Azriel.
SJM prioritizes authenticity in relationships, valuing the ability of a couple to be genuine and true to themselves around each other over mere aesthetic appeal.

We look inside Lucien's canon mind just to learn he applauds refined taste in rugs lol, thinks Azriel is a decent male, really wants to leave the house to just read some damn books, is trying desperately not to wrap Elain in a blanket and feed her soup, swallowing his tea quietly.
god i love that reasonable-ass beautiful ginger fancyboi boots pining in internal misery looking like a snack drinking his earl grey like he doesn't have enough fire in his blood to burn the countryside to smithereens.

”Don’t you dare touch my brothers again”
Red flashed in his eyes with disturbingly controlled fury. Legend stepped forward, the master sword held tightly in his hand. He raised it, the flat end of the blade turned towards what was left of the enemy- its infected blood coating the steel.
He speaks, His words a threatening growl. “Don’t you dare touch my brothers again.”

blood warning! But don’t worry, it’s not his :)

Without the lighting effects and his face isn’t covered

I like the idea of Corvo executing not physical but psychological torture on his targets
Like for example in Flooded District when Corvo escapes he doesn’t make himself known right away, it’s as if he really vanished. No one suspects anything (mostly expecting him still being around Flooded District ready to reach Daud as expected).
It’s tense, yes, but no one is murdered, choked out or disappeared.
Corvo is a master of observation and blending in. Corvo observes, listens, and changes his mask and behavior. Corvo played a perfect whaler. Corvo blended in with them perfectly, he wormed his way into their circle.
In span of a day Corvo played a perfect whaler, uncovering himself when they all least expected it, and while he’s not aggressive or violent, just standing here peacefully, almost relaxed, with absolutely tired face, they feel he’s dangerous. One wrong word or move and he’ll murder without second thoughts.
So all Corvo does is nicely asks for a key to get out of Flooded District, and pretty much for them to disappear from face of Dunwall, because next time to catches at least one of them at periphery of his eyes he’s personally hunting every single of them.
Corvo doesn’t want more bloodshed for this city his Empress loved, he doesn’t want it to be consumed by plague any more as it is, but he’s just a human, he’s tired, he’s so, so tired and angry and it takes all his willpower to stare in eyes of a murderer and not to become one himself.
Corvo takes the key from Daud’s hand, sends him one last tired warning stare and leaves to save his daughter and a crumbling empire. Corvo’s hands are completely clean unlike Daud’s, and it takes everything not to paint his into same red.
But that doesn’t mean he can’t torture people with their own minds.
