people seem to have some mixed interpretations and feelings about today's entry. but my reading was that it was absolutely heart-breaking and emotionally charged on multiple levels.

to me this felt like a mirror of the suitor-squad proposal day. that day was full of happiness and excited love, hope for the future, with some bittersweetness of Lucy having to say 'no' to some; this one was full of mourning and painful love, with dread of the future, but a bittersweetness of connection, devotion, and 'yes' to Mina from some.

I feel like the polycule can be read as platonic, romantic, or a combination of relationships involving either/both. but regardless, these scenes show the interconnectedness of our characters and their care for each other. the men are kneeling in front of Lucy/Mina and making a vow. we tragically were denied a wedding rite for Lucy because of her (un)death, yet we (also tragically) get a funeral rite for Mina despite her (half) life.

a fun little parallel I noticed during these drawn-out days of The Chase: when having her absolute mastermind moment, Mina writes that the important question is

(b) How is he to be taken?—Here a process of exclusions may help us. By road, by rail, by water?

Here Mina begins laying out the three routes the Count was forced to choose between, and the strengths and weaknesses of each. After hearing her read this memorandum, the men each immediately spot a way they can be helpful in exploiting one of these weaknesses.

By Road. —There are endless difficulties, especially in leaving the city. (x) There are people; and people are curious, and investigate. A hint, a surmise, a doubt as to what might be in the box, would destroy him. (y) There are, or there may be, customs and octroi officers to pass. (z) His pursuers might follow. This is his highest fear; and in order to prevent his being betrayed he has repelled, so far as he can, even his victim—me!

"I [shall get] horses to follow on the bank lest by chance he land," said Mr. Morris.

2. By Rail.—There is no one in charge of the box. It would have to take its chance of being delayed; and delay would be fatal, with enemies on the track. True, he might escape at night; but what would he be, if left in a strange place with no refuge that he could fly to? This is not what he intends; and he does not mean to risk it.

Van Helsing says (among other things), "we shall go in the track where Jonathan went,—from Bistritz over the Borgo, and find our way to the Castle of Dracula... There is much to be done, and other places to be made sanctify, so that that nest of vipers be obliterated."

3. By Water.—Here is the safest way, in one respect, but with most danger in another. On the water he is powerless except at night; even then he can only summon fog and storm and snow and his wolves. But were he wrecked, the living water would engulf him, helpless; and he would indeed be lost. He could have the vessel drive to land; but if it were unfriendly land, wherein he was not free to move, his position would still be desperate. We know from the record that he was on the water; so what we have to do is to ascertain what water.

"I shall get a steam launch and follow him," said Lord Godalming.

Our protagonists have the numbers to take all three routes, and cut Dracula off by any of them! And, by the power of Judge Moneybag, they can do so quickly.

It is not three hours since it was arranged what part each of us was to do; and now Lord Godalming and Jonathan have a lovely steam launch, with steam up ready to start at a moment's notice. Dr. Seward and Mr. Morris have half a dozen good horses, well appointed. We have all the maps and appliances of various kinds that can be had. Professor Van Helsing and I are to leave by the 11:40 train to-night for Veresti, where we are to get a carriage to drive to the Borgo Pass. 

Well done, team. The power of numbers (and money) would mean nothing without Mina's analysis there to give them purpose, but they're pretty damn useful!

Probably wait till Dracula Daily is officially out, but I got some Dracula headcanons for later

Jonathan IS SUPER GOOD with cooking, he's autistic and food is his special interest however he has ADHD moments and is too worried he will burn down the kitchen if he went into a career as a chef

His father was frequently bedridden when he was young and he wanted to help his mother with cooking which was how he learned the skill (yes this is a reference to Stoker being sick as a kid a lot)

He's probably prattling on for ages about food and stuff in Dracula's castle to the point where the Count thought that it would be suspicious if he served food that wasn't too high quality

So he literally did those awesome meals *just* for Jonathan LOL

Has a faster metabolism than usual which is why he's so concerned about food, and also why his hair turns white so quickly from fear

Also why Dracula was keeping him around so long- Jonathan could recover more quickly from being drained of blood than normal, at the cost of needing good food

He's been described as being energetic and uncommonly bright by another character so I'm guessing he's got autism and ADHD, he's no good with recognising red flags but in his area of special interest he's SUPER GOOD (food, law, language etc)

Is polite and kind but unintentionally brutally honest at times, he knows to not point out obvious stuff but the subtler things he has trouble with

Him and Mina are both polyamorous and aware of their polyamory, but so far they're the only ones in their relationship

They probably met a while ago, at the time there was another guy chasing Mina, Jonathan told Mina that she could choose the both of them and that he wouldn't mind but that caused the other guy to lose interest which is why they're both a little self conscious about seeming polyamorous around other people

Jonathan is bi (because Stoker was probably bi/ gay)

In the Victorian era, cleaning out the ashes from the hearth was to be done on new year’s eve as a sign of sweeping away all the past year’s ills and ushering in the new year with a clean slate. A nice idea for the Harkers to do together and then light a new one especially the NYE of same year they survived.

i remember playing it as a kid (with my vamp-themed character named “pink fang” that i have had since the 3rd grade)

I'm playing with the Crew of Light plus Lucy like dolls in my head harder than I did with any fictional characther. They might be OOC now but I don't care. I want my the Crew of Light but they weren't written by a victorian man with all victorian biases abd prejudices right now and for god I'll turn it into a silly ya novel if that's what it's needed I do not care.

i think its weird that arcee is like. a core member of transformers groups now, cuz it makes her stick out like a sore thumb being the token girl when at the time she wasnt exactly supposed to be? she was part of the second generation of characters (even though I know the movie was being made first)

like it seems like modern stuff tries to do this with her

which just shows off how much that design doesnt fit and comes off like it was made to be "i am THE girl. you need no more girls we have made the one girl”

but when she was actually designed to match the movie crew, a bunch of more futuristic (the far off year of 2005) cybertronian vehicle transformers with her rounded shapes and pastel colours and she isnt even the only pink one because hot rod is also pink, albeit a much darker pink

(leaving ultra magnus out cuz he was designed to be a brick holding optimus doesnt count)

the point like yeah shes still the only girl but its less egregious when you look at what she was actually supposed to match. i dont think shes designed perfectly but i think its weird that because shes the most recognizable girl transformer she has to be pulled away from her crew and forced into a group she doesnt share the design philosophy of (let alone for her character its sad like... are those not her friends? she’s not allowed to hang out with her own friends anymore cuz she’s the only girl who’s marketable? sad)

it’s extra weird when you realize there’s this crew who were the original girl transformers shown on screen

they’re not perfect either but I like that they have the same busy more squared off shapes and more strong colours, and I just think if they got added in arcees place you could have a less skewed view gender binary for the robots

there’s also the part where it would be cool to have more than one girl in a group, but again arcee with her iconic leia space buns head fits in aesthetically better with the movie crew

Let there be Light

You probably noticed that one of the lamps in Aziraphale’s bookshop goes out after he gets into the elevator, clearly visible in the final shot. But of course this is Good Omens and the lamps aren’t just lamps, so let’s slither inside for a better look at what’s going on. Sometimes a little perspective change makes all the difference.

The twin lamps are actually statues of two brass cherubs facing the interior of the bookshop — their own world — just like the two angels we saw Before the Beginning facing the creation of the solar system, their current home. Aziraphale always on the left, Crowley on the right.

The fact that it’s the right — Crowley’s — lamp that broke at the end of the Final Fifteen can mean two things. Either the light of his life has left him that morning and the lamp reflects his loss, or just like a porch lamp it indicates that he’s the one not home, but in Heaven.

mina and jonathan are canonically childhood friends!

Law has lived such a violent life of seeing people that care for him dying and being used for others personal gain that having his most trusted man be a person that hates to hurt others, is a bleeding heart of care, that seems to really respect Law's choices and orders is perfect for Law.
