Angsty ask but do you think that Sith Kanan would even remember his name? Like he hasn’t used it in like 16 years or something and no one else has said it in that time so would he even remember? SK anon

I mean, that concept is definitely heartbreaking in and of itself. Kanan spends the rest of his life as a Sith apprentice and no one calls him Caleb again and his name is lost to time 😢

But in my au at least, he does remember. To be fair to him, he was 14 when he was kidnapped, so he had a pretty firm grasp of his name and his Sense of Self™️. But because he is tortured and conditioned to only be an inquisitor and respond to some vague inquisitor name I haven’t come up with yet, he ends up separating himself from Caleb Dume. In order to cope with what he becomes, he dissociates from the Jedi so hard that Caleb becomes like an entirely different person to him. Obviously, Caleb isn’t dead, but Caleb… Ended, in a way. He doesn’t remember a lot of his torture, because it wasn’t him, it was Caleb. He doesn’t remember how intense the betrayal felt when the clones brought him in because they didn’t betray him, they betrayed Caleb. He’s so disconnected from his identity as a Jedi, and even as Caleb Dume, that he feels like he’s lying even when he tells Ezra “I used to be a Jedi”. Part of the reason why he hates people like Ahsoka and Rex is that they remind him that what happened, happened to him. Him and Caleb are one and the same, and he experienced everything Caleb experienced, even if it doesn’t feel like it anymore.
