Idk if Icebergs are still popular, but does a NaruHina Fic Iceberg post sound fun to you?

Basically, there's like 5 or 6 tiers (there should be a template readily available in google images) and you assign specific media (in this case, NH fics) to each tier, descending from tame tho troubling to 'stare into the abyss'-level awful. 😅

I'm just super curious now, haha. 🤪 Baiee~

The order of the fics within each category sorta matters to me, but if I thought about it harder, I'd probably change things around, so the order's not that important. And in general, the categories go from NaruHina getting hurt, to NaruHina hurting others, to NaruHina hurting each other. With a few exceptions! But if someone else were to rank this, they might categorize things differently.

It's all just my feeling. As you can see. By the category titles.

I’m thinking of compiling a list of Narn characters based on how annoying they’d be from a service worker’s perspective. Húrin is probably great for example. Do you have any opinions on this? (This is very silly so totally fair if not)

Please share.... My opinions as a Brazilian living in the US, as I understand the service industry:

Húrin always tips generously, very lordly, smiles and says please and thank yous and also gestures with his thumbs up to emphasize that everything is going great -- somehow feels very natural. Gets annoyed when the order comes wrong but has been taught it's mostly better/it's good manners to just ignore it; after he gets married to Morwen that changes, mostly because if they get a wrong order he knows SHE will complain, and he knows it's better for everybody if he does it instead lmao 😭

Morwen tips according to the quality of the service. Has left a restaurant once without tipping when the service was atrocious, was appalled and indignant when the service worker assumed she had merely forgotten and pointed it out. She knows the bitterness of poverty though, so she's not like, cruel about it. But she takes duty very seriously. She also sends food back if she thinks it tastes bad. Like if the beef is over cooked or the onions under cooked, she will definitely call the waiter and ask for a new plate.

Morwen has to be immigrant-coded in any context, so my take here is that it takes her a moment to adapt to the concept of "good service in a restaurant = the servant is literally always coming up to your table and asking questions and tittering around the tables like an eager puppy". She comes from a place where good service is to be left in peace to enjoy your dinner unless you need something from the waiter, and she prefers it that way. Projecting? Moi? Surely not 🤪

Túrin tips automatically the appropriate amount without second thoughts; if he has just read or heard something about the horrific conditions of service industry labor in the US he tips a lot more, with tears in his eyes, but then forgets about it when he calms down. Normally controls his temper but once threw hands with a fast food waiter. Takes whatever other people get for him and is a good sport about it, but when HE orders he likes to always order the same thing and is picky about the specifics!! Gets very annoyed when a detail is wrong, notices when the ingredients are different, and will complain if he has time. Túrin worked in the service industry once for eight hours, in the course of which he managed to protect a coworker from a horrible customer, get everyone into the idea of unionizing, & then accidentally set fire to the employee parking lot in sequence.

Just like his mom he gets a little annoyed if a waiter keeps coming and checking if everything is fine every ten minutes, but it's life. In other situations, he's surprisingly nice to talk to -- he doesn't say a lot, but he really likes listening to people talk about their lives, especially if they're complaining about someone. Gets legit emotionally invested sometimes.

Nienor tried working in the service industry and despite her natural charisma, she proved too forgetful and was let go -- not before every single coworker added her on insta and facebook tho. She's not particularly nice or tip particularly well, but somehow everyone who provides a service for her feels charmed by her. Her taste isn't particularly refined and she is the opposite of Morwen -- She always thinks the food tastes fine and can't really tell if there's something wrong with it. Unless someone talks shit about her family/heritage, she usually thinks the massage was good and that the uber drove just fine.

Rían is an angel -- just like Morwen, she is very aware of the quality of the service, but unlike Morwen, she knows how to 'complain' in such a nice and charming and considerate way that people are totally okay about adjusting the service to her taste.

Huor thinks he is like Rían and Húrin is terms of pleasantness... but he isn't 😝 But obvs not as bad as Túrin or Morwen!

Aerin overtips, always, and is always very precise and clear in her orders. Service workers love her.

Lorgan simply does not tip. By the time the service worker finds it out, it's too late.

Glaurung is a regional manager.

Narn adjacent:

Tuor worked in the worst service industry jobs for some years. He only ever goes anywhere with either Idril or Voronwê and he lets them do the talking, only interacting with service workers with either distant (or occasionally nervous) smiles. Hates calculating the tip and wishes it was just included in the service bill in the first place.

The Worst Kind of Movies

When people ask me what kind if movies I like, I have a hard time answering because I like every single genre. Obviously an individual film can be good or bad on multiple axis (script, acting, visuals, concept, presence of bigoted shit or lack thereof) but there's not a single genre I would throw under the bus. Except one.

Movies That Make Me Want to Fucking Die 🤪

This isn't a formally recognized genre, but I think it should be, so I could avoid it better. The reason that I think it's a genre rather than a quality is that these films can be well-written and well-acted and well-directed (or not) and that has no bearing on the fact that they make me want to Stop Existing. In fact, I feel like these films were intentionally designed to make people hate life and being alive. I evaluate movies based on how well they achieve their goal, and I think the goal of these movies is to cause misery and a hatred of life itself. I am NOT talking about sad films or tragedies or bad-ending horror or distressing documentaries. Sobbing etc is different from wanting to Leave The Planet. I've tried looking for lists of movies that people say make them want to die and they're never what I'm talking about. Not Dear Zachary, not American History X. Ultimately those films made me sob uncontrollably and go "shit's fucked up" but they didn't extinguish my will to live. What I'm talking about is like the exact opposite of a ghibli film. There Is No Hope There is Nothing. Anyway, here are the films that have made me feel this way:

The Great New Wonderful (2005)

This is the most misleading poster I've ever seen in my life. It's not a comedy. It's about 5 people all living out different horrible little scenarios. It's a post 9/11 reactionary thing but not in the normal way. Watching this destroyed a part of my soul.

Carriers (2009)

This was a straight-to-dvd movie I watched with a friend because we were baby trekkies and its staring Chris Pine. The whole time I was like "Why no theater release? This is a perfectly acceptable apocalypse flick." And then the ending happened and I wanted to fucking Die. Looking at the wikipedia page, apparently it's had a resurgence of popularity because of covid? 😐

House of Sand and Fog (2015)

This one gave me a panic attack in front of my entire religion class so that Sucked. Interestingly, I think this was also a piece of post 9/11 reactionary filmmaking so maybe that's a running thread.

Transamerica (2005)

This one is an outlier in that it made me want to die and then was able to rub some aloe vera on the wound before the credits rolled, allowing me to crawl away with my will to live intact. I've never talked to other trans people abt this movie so idk what the general trans opinions are but it made me feel Bad and Gross and the fact that it's a trans-centric story meant that I was associating Bad and Gross things to a trans narrative at a time when I was trying to figure out my own gender stuff so.... Yeah. Feels bad man.

Circle

The fact that this movie is objectively just kind of bad actually made it affect me way less than the others. I was able to shake it off easier as a "well that sucked." Had it been higher quality but followed the same narrative strokes, it would have crushed me like a bug.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)

This was a shock for me because I really like the Coen brothers. Dark, yes, but not "I want to kms." Full disclosure, I couldn't finish it. I am old enough and wise enough now to see "Oh, this is one if those," and turn it off before the feeling gets Deeper.

Beatriz at Dinner (2017)

Honestly the movie was objectively high quality in every way, it just made me want to fucking die 😖

ANYWAY this post is part warning, part "is it just me?" and part open invitation to tell me any movies that fall into this character so I can avoid them and continue to want to live 😌🙏

i just think it's funny that all the hosies seem to be physically incapable of speaking about legit any of the hizzie interactions this ep. like they all seemed to blackout during their scenes beyond a few comments being annoyed that the show had lizzie make up with hope so easily. like that's it. if you based the ep off of their live tweets you would think they didn't even talk (just like idk... a certain other ship...)

They have made it very clear through a lot of the things they throw “OOC” at that they don’t pay attention to anybody outside of those two girls - and think that’s cute and funny, when they simultaneously keep pretending they can make a single coherent theory to save their lives - so I’m sure this was rough for them!

And the crazy thing is, it’s not like their fave wasn’t in the episode. It’s not like Josie didn’t get any fun content. A lot of the fandom has been begging for Josie and MG to be friends again, and that’s what happened. Elena stans are being more positive about that girl, coming up with headcanons for what sort of stuff her and Josie are talking about while there. Majority of them favor Josie, so they’re not being completely bereft of content.

A lot of them like to sit around and pretend any episode with Hosie is actually a cinematic masterpiece, and I can’t, lol. Suddenly Legacies is a corny cheeseball show (it is) in the worst of ways when those two aren’t staring at each other, but. Their Holy Grail of an episode has been the one with a dumb looking cartoonization clip, that awkward scene of Hope spinning in the air, horrific pacing and editing, and Josie being a fucking pig. That’s quality television to them, that’s Hope having independent focus, nothing in that episode was dumb as hell and horribly written, beyond the fact that they didn’t kiss of course. They’re always talking about how they have “taste” and “standards” but just like anybody else watching this stupid show, they really don’t. 😭

It’s unfortunate because they are meant to be friends (I don’t think they were always written consistently, same as most of the other dynamics, but it’s never been this bad) and there’s no good IC reason Hope shouldn’t even be allowed to refer to Josie by name. But a good chunk of them are so full of themselves and would absolutely be cheering and laughing if any other dynamic was in that place, that I find it hard to feel bad for most of them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Don’t even need to “-if it was Hizzie.” They already sit around and crack obsessed quip after obsessed quip about “at least we’re getting content 🤪“ about Posie, but... as far as I can tell canonically Penelope has thought more about Josie in a completely different country than Hope has thought about Josie this season, and she’s just at a different school. :( Sad to see, sad to see!
