I know this episode is framed as a custody battle for Wilson, but "the polycule is fighting and demands their boss mediate their schedule" is much funnier so that's how I've decided to watch it.

I Believe in Second Chances - Part 5
Things are a little different this time around
Or the story where Alex dies while on his way to stop Jo from reading the letter he sent. Somehow, he gets a second chance
Hi! I am so sorry this took so long to update, but I have started planning the following chapters which will hopefully make it easier to update more frequently.
(i definitely wrote this instead of studying for finals whoops)
If you haven’t read part 4 yet, you can find it here
Tumblr media
—Part 5—
The next few weeks played out very differently than they had in his previous life. Since waking up in this timeline, the Alex everyone knew went from a manwhore who couldn’t go more than two days without sleeping around to a caring, attentive guy that had everyone scratching their heads in confusion. There had been multiple moments where Meredith, Jackson, Callie, Cristina and even Bailey had given him strange looks due to changes in behavior. They were especially freaked out when they noticed his newfound friendship with a certain intern.
“So… are you guys a thing now or what?” Callie asked as they walked into the attendings lounge, mugs of coffee in each of their hands. “I’m just trying to figure it out because I’m not really sure what to say to people when they ask.”
“If people ask, just tell them to stay the hell out of my business,” Alex took another sip of his coffee. “We’re just friends.”
“Oh come,” Callie gave him an unimpressed look. “I know you like her. Why don’t you just make a move already? It’s been a month since you met.”
“Because I want to do this right,” Alex sighed and thought back to the way things unfolded the first time. “There are some things I’m trying to avoid, so I need to show her who I am first. She needs to trust me and like me before I do anything about it.”
“I can’t believe you’re actually trying to impress this girl,” Callie took a long swig of her coffee. “Sure, she’s hot and funny, but what’s so special about her? Because you look at her like she hung the moon and stars.”
“She’s just…” Alex shook his head and vaguely remembered the words he’d said to Cristina over seven years ago. “There have been a lot of girls since Izzie. A lot of nobodies. But this girl isn’t a nobody.”
“Who are you and what have you done to Evil Spawn?” Cristina’s voice startled Callie and Alex as she walked into the attendings lounge. “Are you in love? Is Alex in love?”
“Alex is in love?” Meredith raised her eyebrows as she followed Cristina into the lounge. “Is it that intern he’s been hanging out with? Jo Wilson? If so, Avery owes me twenty bucks.”
“Why does Avery owe you twenty bucks?” Bailey asked as she joined the rest of them.
“Alex is in love with his intern,” Callie supplied, ducking as Alex threw a paper ball in her direction. “Hey! What, it’s true. You can’t even deny it.”
“No offense Karev, but don’t you think she might be a little out of your league?” Bailey wondered out loud, an amused expression on her face.
“She’s definitely out of my league,” Alex replied. Realizing that he wasn’t going to get rid of their prying questions any time soon, Alex decided to give them a straight answer. “Look, she’s different okay? We have a lot of stuff in common and she gets me more than anyone I’ve ever met. I don’t think I’ve ever opened up to someone as much as I have with her. She’s also a bit squirrelly—not that it’s her fault—and she’ll run if I get too serious too fast, so I’m being patient and taking it slow so I don’t freak her out.”
“Are you feeling okay?” Meredith blurted out. “Because I swear you do not sound like Alex Karev right now.”
“You guys suck,” Alex stuck his tongue out at the women and moved to get up. “I’m going to get ready for rounds.”
He left the lounge and started to make his way down to the intern locker room. As he neared the door, Alex heard some comotion inside.
“Oh my God, you like him!”
“You are so into him. Don’t even try to deny it.”
“Look! She’s blushing!”
“Guys, stop it!” Jo’s hushed the three women who had been interrogating her. “Okay, yes fine. I like him, but I’m not going to go around acting like some crazy, desperate girl like Leah—no offense.”
“None taken,” Leah shook her head. “Seriously though, you like Karev? I mean, I get the attraction. Both Heather and I slept with him and it was fantastic, but you actually like him? As a person?”
“I know you guys probably think I’m crazy, but yeah I do. I know everyone sees him as this jerk who only cares about getting into someone else’s pants, but he’s different from what everyone thinks. When we hang out and drink beer at Joe’s or at his house, he’s different. He’s funny and kind and charming. You know he bought a couch so that I could crash if I’ve had too much to drink and can’t drive home? Douches don’t do that,” Jo released a breath and shrugged. “Also, you should see him with his patients. Kids can see right through people and they love him.”
“Jo Wilson, you are smitten,” Stephanie teased as a wide grin appeared on her face.
“Why don’t you ask him out?” Heather suggested. “You’re both comfortable being alone together. But instead of it just being two friends hanging out, make it a date.”
“I don’t know,” Jo answered hesitantly. “I’m not even sure if he feels the same way. Besides, he’s my boss.”
“Oh screw it,” Leah rolled her eyes. “He’s so into you.”
“He’s definitely into you. Trust me, I know,” Shane looked over to the girls, shutting his locker and leaning against it.
“How do you know?” Jo raised an eyebrow.
“I just do,” Shane crossed his arms. “I was sworn to secrecy, but all I’m going to say is that the attendings talk during surgery.”
“He talks about you!” Heather gasped. “As if the way he looks at you isn’t enough proof.”
“Oh yeah, any time you walk into a room his eyes follow you around with this awestruck glint in them,” Stephanie giggled. “Go for it, Jo.”
“I want to, but… I didn’t come here to get into a relationship or be tied down to someone. I have baggage that no one deserves to be burdened with, much less him,” Jo looked down sadly. “I’ve been burned in the past. I don’t want to open that possibility up again.”
Shane rolled his eyes, “That’s not an excuse to keep yourself from being happy.”
Sensing they were done talking—and feeling a hell of a lot of pride hearing that Jo was already interested in him so soon—Alex waited a couple seconds before popping his head into the locker room and scanning it for Jo, “Wilson! We’ve got surgery in 20. Let’s go!”
Jo’s eyes widened as she scrambled to grab her things. She did her best to ignore the stares and winks her friends were giving her as she followed Alex out the door.
“Hey, how was your day off yesterday?” Alex asked as they stepped into the elevator.
“It was nice. A little boring, but I slept past ten in the morning,” Jo grinned.
“Ah, you always did love to sleep in,” Alex muttered to himself.
“Huh?”
“Nothing, just—I figured you’re one of those people who would rather sleep in,” Alex tried to save his little slip up. “I am, too.”
“You see that’s why we get along so well. I’d never be able to work with a morning person before nine in the morning because I think I’d punch them in the face,” Jo tilted her head in thought.
“You and me both,” Alex chuckled. “Pretty sure I yelled at Kepner one too many times during residency.”
“But she’s so nice,” Jo wrinkled her face in confusion.
“Exactly.”
Jo laughed in response, making Alex’s heart pick up a bit. He loved hearing her laugh. It was probably one of his favorite things about her. He remembered their wedding day and the way she laughed so brightly and contagiously when they realized that they had had sex in a shed with a corpse lying there. If there was one thing that Alex was determined to do this time around, was to replace all the times he’d made her cry to laughter.
“So, what’s the surgery today?” Jo asked, breaking him out of his thoughts.
“Oh, um we’re performing a splenectomy on eight year old, Jalen Brown. He’s got hemolytic anemia and needs his spleen removed,” Alex informed as they walked into the scrub room. “I’m gonna go talk to him before we start.”
Alex walked into the OR and up to the operating table, smiling as he looked down at the kid laying on it, “Hey buddy. We’re going to do the surgery now. This doctor over here is going to give you some medicine that is going to help you sleep so that you won’t feel a thing. When you wake up, you’re gonna be a little sore, but that’s normal. You’ve got this, okay?”
“Okay, Dr. Alex,” Jalen nodded timidly. “Can you hold my hand while I go to sleep?”
“Sure, thing kiddo,” Alex grabbed one of Jalen’s hands and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “Now, count backwards from ten for me.”
“Ten, nine, eight, seven, six…”
Nodding at the anesthesiologist, Alex walked back towards the scrub room where Jo was staring at him curiously. Alex raised an eyebrow, “What?”
“Nothing,” Jo shook her head. “It’s just… you’re really great with kids.”
“Well, I’d hope so. My job kind of depends on it,” Alex flashed her a crooked grin.
“Obviously,” Jo rolled her eyes and began to scrub. “What I mean is that you make them feel comfortable around you. That’s something I’ve noticed since we became friends. You make people feel safe.”
Alex stared at Jo for a moment, pausing in his scrubbing. He was grateful that he’d already pulled his mask over his face so that she couldn’t see the look he was giving her. Because, that just might’ve been the highest compliment he could’ve received from Jo. He knew how significant it was that Jo already felt safe around him. There were very few people in this world that made her feel safe and secure, and at this point in her life, he was pretty sure that he was the only one on that list. The people on that list wouldn’t expand for a few more years.
Alex’s face softened and all he could do was smile underneath his mask at the woman standing beside him, “Thanks.”
They’d been in surgery for a little while already when one of the nurses answered a page, “Dr. Karev, you’re being paged to L&D for a pediatric patient who’s having a high risk baby. It’s urgent.”
“Crap,” Alex mumbled to himself. Today was the day that he and Jo would meet the girl who abandoned her baby in the hospital. Sighing, Alex looked over at Jo. “Can you check that out for me? I’ll be in there as soon as I can.”
“Yes. Of course,” Jo nodded and promptly stepped out away from the operating table and proceeded to scrub out.
By the time Alex finished up with his surgery, Jo had paged him multiple times to hurry. He met Jo in the hallway as she ran with an incubator towards the NICU, “Newborn with a CDH. I intubated him but the SATs are still low.”
“It could be pulmonary hypertension,” Alex looked up at Jo as they continued to rush towards the NICU. “Have you ever hooked a baby up to ECMO before?”
“I never intubated a baby before five minutes ago,” Jo replied, eyes wide.
“Okay, we hook up catheters into his neck, pump his blood into the ECMO machine, which puts in oxygen and takes out carbon dioxide. Then it cycles it all back in,” Alex explained as they finally entered a procedure room.
They set up everything quickly and Alex coached Jo through how to hook up with catheters and get the machine going, “You’re doing great. You isolated that jugular and carotid, avoided the vagus nerve, and now you need to put in a venous drainage cannula.”
Suddenly the machines started beeping. Jo looked up at them before frantically turning back to Alex, “I didn’t even—“
“Switch with me,” Alex traded places with Jo swiftly. “He’s coding. You need to do CPR while I hook him up to ECMO.”
“At the same time? How will that work?”
“You need to start compressions now,” Alex instructed and proceeded to hook the baby up to the machines. “Stop… Go… Stop… Go… Stop… Keep going…”
Some time passed when Jo finally spoke again, “How long have we been going?”
“Twenty minutes.”
Seconds later, Arizona walked into the procedure room, “Hey. I heard you had a crash ECMO. You need my help? You want me to take over?”
Alex smiled to himself slightly. He kept forgetting that he was only supposed to be a fellow that was still learning certain surgical procedures, “No. I’m just connecting the circuit… okay. Initiate bypass.” Alex held his breath for a moment and then released it. “We did it. Son of a bitch.”
“It seems like only yesterday I was showing you how to do your first pulmonary hypoplasia,” Arizona smiled. “I hope you’re taking notes, Wilson. He’s one of the good ones.”
Jo looked back and forth between Arizona and Alex before letting out a breath, “So, what’s next?”
“Well, now that he’s hooked up to ECMO, the baby has to be monitored 24/7. We have a long day and a long night,” Alex looked up from what he was doing to make eye contact with Jo. “You might want to go grab a power nap, princess.”
“Ugh, really Alex? Again with the whole princess thing?” Jo rolled her eyes. “I thought we agreed to forget about that.”
“Hey, I wasn’t the one who said it. It was little Briana Ewell who said you looked exactly like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I just so happened to agree,” Alex shook his head. “I don’t know why you’re so hung up on it. Most people would take that as a compliment.”
“It’s embarrassing,” Jo explained with wide eyes. “I don’t need people thinking I got to where I am today because I’m pretty and it was handed to me or that I slept my way to the top. I worked hard to get here.”
“No one ever said you didn’t,” Alex paused. “But for the record, if anyone ever does, tell them to come find me and I’ll set the record straight.”
“Oh, no way,” Jo laughed. “We do not need you doing something stupid like going and ‘protecting my honor’ or whatever.”
“Just go take a nap.”
***
“You sure you’re not asleep with your eyes open? You’ve been staring at that kid for an hour.”
“She didn’t even want to see him. She cared more about her best friend’s stupid pizza party than seeing her child,” Jo’s face wrinkled in disbelief. In the before, Alex had made some insensitive comments about how she couldn’t possibly relate to the young girl’s story. This time instead of interrupting, he allowed her to continue. “I just… I don’t understand how you could care about a party more than the baby you’ve grown to know and love for the past nine months. How could you not want to see that baby and hold it and love it? A baby who has no fault in the decisions you made that led you here. Why bring that baby into the world in the first place if you don’t even care enough to sit by it’s bedside when it needs you the most.”
Alex stood there in silence, unknowing what to say. This definitely had not happened last time. In the before, Jo hardly ever expressed her feelings about being abandoned by her mother until after she’d met her. These feelings though, made it clear to him that Jo had been contemplating whether she was worthy of existing long before finding out about how she was conceived.
Sensing Alex’s surprise at her small outburst, Jo reached a hand out to touch the baby’s hand, “I’m sorry. I just can’t imagine what could be more important than your kid. If my baby were in the NICU, I would never leave it’s side. Not for a single moment.”
“It sounds like there’s a story there,” Alex raised his eyebrows slightly. “If you ever feel like sharing it, you can trust me.”
Jo took a deep breath, “I had a crappy childhood.”
“Me too,” Alex confided. He didn’t want to push her, but he knew that she might feel more compelled to open up if he shared first. “My dad was an abusive junkie and my mom was schizophrenic. So, when I was a kid, I became the parent to my younger siblings. I got them ready for school and made them food and helped with homework. I ran interference for my parents, I kept everyone safe, I took the beatings my mom and siblings were supposed to get. I even stole cars and food to make sure my siblings were taken care of. Someone must’ve reported it, because one day these people showed up and took us away for a few years. We got separated and I ended up with a whole bunch of foster parents who didn’t give a rat’s ass about me. Then at some point, I ended up in juvie. It’s a miracle I am the man I am today. Sure, I’ve got my flaws, but I never would’ve thought I’d become this.”
“My mother left me at a fire station when I was two weeks old,” Jo started quietly and watched as the small child wrapped his tiny hand around her finger. “I got bumped around foster homes until I was sixteen when I took matters into my own hands and started living out of a car. I parked it behind the gym of my high school so I could sneak in and use the showers before class. My home ec teacher--Ms. Schmidt--she’d let me do my laundry there for free.” Jo laughed slightly. “Everyone asks me how I got into Princeton and Harvard while living in a car. They’d say mean things and start rumors that I’d slept with the admissions staff to gain entrance into their programs. But I got into good schools because I worked my ass off. And when I walked across that stage at graduation, I didn’t have a cheering section filled with family. I had one person, Ms. Schmidt.”
Jo felt a tear run down her cheek and swiped at it quickly, “This little guy here just came into the world a few hours ago and he’s sick. All he needs is his mother. But she’s too busy talking to her best friend about pizza and cupcakes to even hold his hand. He didn’t do anything to deserve this. He doesn’t deserve to feel alone.”
“He isn’t alone,” Alex shook his head and reached over to squeeze Jo’s free hand. “He has you and me and the nurses. Who knows? Maybe he’ll be okay. But for now, we just got to make sure he’s strong and well-taken care of, okay?”
“Okay.”
***
It was alright for the most part. The little guy pulled through the night and was doing okay. Not that Alex doubted he would pull through. After all, the kid lived in his past life, so he figured that he’d make it this time around too. What wasn’t alright was that today was the day that this girl would abandon her baby with the help of her mother.
It was happening right now actually. As Alex was walking down the corridor, he could hear Jo’s voice rise in volume, “Woah, woah, hey! Hang on. You can’t just leave. You have a baby. She has a baby upstairs. He’s one day old.”
“Yeah,” the girl replied. “And he’s all messed up.”
“So you’re just gonna... You can’t--you can’t abandon him! No! You can’t! No!” Jo placed herself in between the elevator doors, blocking their exit. “No!”
“Let me on,” the girl’s mother frowned.
“No!”
“You don’t wanna mess with me,” the woman growled.
“You don’t wanna mess with me,” Jo countered. The woman grabbed Jo by her scrubs, causing Jo to react and push her against the elevator. “No, stop. You can’t abandon that baby! You can’t do that!”
“Get off me!”
“No!” Jo shouted.
“Let her go,” the teen girl trying to get in between Jo and her mother.
“No!”
“Hey! Let ‘em go,” Alex came and pulled Jo off of the woman. “Let them go.”
Jo turned and glared at Alex angrily as the elevator doors closed, allowing the two women to escape. Seething with anger, Jo yanked herself out of Alex’s grasp and ran down the hall.
Knowing that she would need a few minutes to calm down, Alex waited before going to look for her where he knew she’d be. He found her lying on a gurney in the tunnels he’d introduced her to a few weeks ago. It became their spot where they’d go to meet up and talk, hang out, or have lunch together.”
“Look, I know this hit home for you and it sucks, but you can’t go around assaulting patients.”
Jo let out a sharp breath, “She was abandoning her baby.”
“I know,” Alex jumped up onto the gurney and motioned for her to scoot over so he could lie down next to her. He laid on his back and grabbed one of her hands, making comfortable circles on the back of her hand.
“I’m just… I’m so angry,” Jo sobbed, the tears finally winning. “How can she not love him? I loved my baby so much even though I only knew about him for a couple weeks.”
“Wait what?” Alex was confused. In all the time he’d been with Jo (both past and current timeline Jo), he’d never heard anything about a baby. “You had a baby?”
“No, well yes, but no,” Jo shook her head, tears still running down her cheeks. “I’m sorry. I’m not making any sense, right?” Jo paused, unsure if she should share this part of her story. She was nervous. What she was about to tell Alex, she’d never mentioned to a single soul before. “Years ago, I was pregnant. But the father wasn’t a good guy. I wanted to keep the baby, but it became more and more clear that if I did, it would never be safe. My life was too complicated and dangerous to raise a child. So, I went to a clinic all by myself and had an abortion. And I cried the whole time, because I had started picturing all of these wonderful things about what my baby would look like and be like. I fell in love with my baby. I wanted my baby. I loved my baby. But my greatest act of love was ensuring that it would never have to go through what I went through. I was a mom to that baby for less than five weeks and I loved it more than this girl ever loved her baby... I’ve never told anyone that before.”
Alex laid there in silence for a moment. He was surprised that Jo mentioned this experience she had, especially when she still hadn't brought up Paul yet and it was so early on in their friendship. The Jo from the before had always been very reserved when it came to sharing about her experiences with Paul. She continually attempted to pretend like it never happened rather than face it fully. She’d been through hell and it was understandable. So, hearing that Jo had had to have an abortion back while in her abusive marriage made Alex want to cry.
He reached to wrap his arm around Jo’s shoulder and pulled her close, placing a light kiss on her forehead, “Jo. You have one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen. Despite everything you went through, you became kind and strong and loving. I know this hurts and I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that. But I promise, this baby will not be like you. We will get him into the database and we’ll get a social worker down here and we will make sure this kid gets a good home.”
“You promise?”
“Yeah I promise.”
***
“Hey Alex!” Jo called out as she made her way to the parking lot.
“Hey, what’s up?” Alex asked.
“Nothing’s up… I just, I wanted to say thank you earlier today. That case was extremely difficult for me, but you helped me be okay. So, thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Alex cracked a small smile. “I told you it would work out. Those parents fell in love with him. He’s going to be okay and live a very happy, full life.”
“Yeah,” Jo sighed slightly. “I guess you were right. I’m glad that he’s got people.”
“So do you,” Alex took one of Jo’s hands in his own. “You’ve got to stop acting like you don’t have people. You’ve got people. You’ve got me. Don’t forget that.”
And although she’d been told those words in the past, for the first time in her life, she believed them.

Now…
Blood is dripping down your forehead. You can feel bruises all over your arms and legs but still, you remain silent. While Gamora tries to play the good cop, Fury is slamming his fists onto the table, trying to intimidate you.
All you give him is a cold smirk and a shrug when he threatens to let you ‘disappear’ once again. Fury wants answers, dreams of bringing Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers down but he knows he needs you.
You are the key to break your husband and lover. You are the one able to make them give up.
“I am asking you one last time.” Slamming his hands onto the table Fury glares at you. “Where are your lovers?”
Faking confusion you look up at the angry man in front of you. “If I recall right I told you I will not talk to you without a lawyer. If you would excuse me now, I’m busy to bleed and wait for said lawyer.”
“Sir, she’s right. I know you want to bring Rogers and Barnes down, but we lost contact with our agents hours ago. Stark is gone with the wind and their houses were empty too.” Glancing at you, pity in her eyes Gamora sighs. “I guess they ran and left her behind. Why should she be here, and not with her husband.”
“You think Barnes left her behind to save his sorry ass? I don’t believe that for a second…” Fury’s eyes meet yours and he can see the uncertainty in your y/e/c eyes. “Not that confident any longer…huh? How about a deal?”
“Deal, Y/N. You can leave this building as a free woman if you give us anything. Just think about things Bucky and Steve said. A little detail. A name or a bank account can help. Deliver us Bucky and you can be finally free.” Gamora is a smooth talker, you give her that, but your face remains stoic.
“It’s James to you or Mr. Barnes. Bucky is for his friends or for me to call him so. That’s all you will get. Now…LAWYER!” You announce the last word, not budging as Fury tosses a file onto the table.
“Maybe this will make you talk…” Placing a picture of Bucky and Natasha in front of you he can see a hint of hurting flash up. “He had a nice affair while being married to you, Y/N. Do you believe he ever loved you?”
“Doesn’t matter to you, right? Whatever you want, you will press it out of me using force. What makes you believe you are that much better than any mobster out there?” Glancing up at Fury you purse your lips.
“I’m bleeding for hours. I asked for a lawyer more than once and you refuse to get one, just like you didn’t offer first aid.”
“Sir…she’s not wrong.” Gamora’s eyes meet her boss’s and she falls silent.
“You believe you are the good guy in this story?” Huffing you point at the bruises on your face and your upper arms. “Hiding behind the law you believe you can do anything you want and still be the nice guy. You are dead wrong, Fury…”
“I will get what I want…” Fury wants to place another picture onto the table when gunfire echoes through the building. “Gamora, stay with her. I’ll check what’s wrong out there…”
Smirking you lean back, propping your feet onto the table. “I guess your time is up, guys. I told you two hours ago to let me go…”
Tumblr media
Fifteen hours and twenty minutes ago…
“What did…god…Tony say?” Moaning you grip Bucky’s ass, pressing him deeper into you. “I need to know if Gamora will get suspicious tonight…”
“Fuck…doll. Can you stop talking about business while I am inside of you?” Bucky groans, slamming harder into you.
Flesh hand in your hair, metal hand gripping the headboard he smirks as you start to tighten around him. “Let me make you cum first…”
“Bring it, punk!” Cursing you slap his ass and your husband loses all control. You will be sore after this ‘ride’ but you don’t care as your lovers will make sure you feel them for days.
“Buck’ make her come!” Steve’s eyes never leave your blissed-out face. While you try to concentrate on the way Bucky uncontrollably drives into you, your eyes drift toward Steve’s cock. “I want my turn before we discuss business and everything else.
“Will I like the plan?” Your nails bite into Bucky’s ass and he laughs as you tilt your head to bite his neck. “Tell me, Barnes…”
“You will love what we prepared, doll. Now…shit…” Milking Bucky dry you slap his ass again, making sure you will leave bruises too. “I promise…”
“You promise a lot, Barnes. I hope you will be able to live up my expectations…” Chuckling Bucky rolls off you, smirking as you flip onto your stomach. “Steve…I think I am ready for another round with my sexy lover…”
“Damn, she calls you her lover, Stevie?” Blinking Bucky meets your eyes when Steve covers your body with his tall frame. Lips travel along your neck and you move your hand behind your head to fist Steve’s hair.
“Yeah…I am her lover, Buck…” Curses leave your lips feeling Steve slide into you. “I’ll go easy on you. We don’t want you to get sore…”
Laughing you grip the sheets as Steve starts to pump into you. “How do you call me?”
“Fuck…give me…” Biting your lower lip hard enough to hurt you push back onto Steve’s dick, making him bites your shoulder hard enough to leave another mark. “Just like that Steve…”
Falling hard once again you cry out, fisting the sheets as Steve fills you up. When you are too tired to move you rest your head onto Bucky’s chest while Steve tries to clean you up.
“We will get out of this, okay. All I can tell is they have more against us than we thought, Y/N. They have a video of the attack on you.” Bucky can see the fear as you look up at him.
“What else do they know?” Fear makes your hand shake and for the first time, you believe you will end up in jail. “Bucky?”
“I am afraid they found out about Brock and Natasha. Both disappeared almost on the same day. They are not as dumb as I want to believe, doll. Someone used a large shovel to dig out all the dirt we tried to hide so badly.”
Steve’s words let a shiver run down your spine and you abruptly sit up, panting heavily.
“We will all go to jail, Bucky…I mean…” Looking at your husband you sniffle.
“How shall we get out of this? What can we do?” Smirking Bucky opens his nightstand to show you what Steve, Tony and he prepared over the last weeks.
“You think this will work out? We can’t just…” Trailing off you think of all people depending on you and your lovers. “What about Thor, Sam, and the others?”
“Thor and Sam are all in. They prepared everything along with Tony. He will be the most important part. That’s the reason Tony can’t be found any longer.” Steve explains, pointing toward the documents in your hands.
“What will happen to them?” Worried about your friends you open another file with shaking hands.
“All will do their job, and if we do it right, no one will get hurt, Baby Girl. Trust me for once in your life. Go and meet up with Gamora, Y/N. Pretend she’s your friend and not a fucking fed bitch.” Bucky pecks your shoulders as Steve squeezes your thigh.
“We’ve got this. Make a list and we make sure everything is prepared…”

“Great you have a day off from business and your men.” Laughing Gamora offers you a beer. While you need all your strength to not choke on your fake smile she seems to have the time of her life. “How do you manage to be with two guys?”
“Sometimes you have to make a decision to…dunno…” Lying straight to her face you fake a few tears. “Stay alive. If you need protection, you’d do anything, you should know that feeling.”
Gamora smiles, fakes compassion but you can see the wheels in her head spinning. Close to letting her cover blow to get you on her side, she nods silently.
“You know, Y/N. There are people out helping women like you and me. I bet they would help you too if you would give them something in return.” Now you feel your stomach churn, but you fake to be interested.
“People helping me…huh?” Blinking a few times, you reluctantly nod. “I got nothing to offer, Gam. What shall I give someone for protection and to be free again? There’s nothing…” Your voice sounds broken and Gamora sees her time coming.
“I can help you if you give me anything to take Rogers and Barnes down, maybe even Stark. Is there something you remember? A date, business partner or people they pay to keep their mouths shut`” Gamora is full agent now and you want to laugh out loud, but you sniffle instead.
“I don’t know, Gam. Most of the time they only use me you know, for pleasure. When they are done I have to sign stuff as they want to keep my father's business running.” Your ‘friend’ nods, offering a warm embrace and you take a deep breath to let her hug you.
“Do you remember anything of those papers you signed?”
“I know there will be a delivery in a few hours, at the docks, but I don’t know what they ordered. All I know is that Bucky and Steve said they won’t come back tonight. That’s all…” Gamora smirks while she holds you tightly.
“Anything else? The specific dock…”
Blinking you look at her, pressing more fake tears out. “Dock 4, I think. Steve said it’s his lucky number. So, it must be 4. They will meet with Tony and another guy I do not know…”
“Did you hear his name?” Gamora is close to her goal so she tries to press more information out of you. “Y/N, think…”
“I think his name was…” Rubbing your forehead you close your eyes. “It was an odd name, pretty short. Shit…it was…oh…” Opening your eyes you smile. “Loki, that’s the name. I don’t know the surname, tho…”
“Loki…? Are you sure about that, Y/N? Can you confirm Loki Laufeyson will be at dock 4 tonight? Y/N, did you hear me?”
The thought of not just arresting Tony, Bucky, and Steve but also the most wanted and notorious mobster boss Loki Laufeyson let Gamora’s heart beat faster.
“I don’t know if his name is Laufeyson, but Steve said Loki will meet them. Is this name common, as I never heard it before? Maybe something Irish or so…” Shrugging you try to change the subject but Gamora keeps on asking questions.
“I will help you, Y/N. After tonight you will be free, promised…”
Tumblr media
Now…
“That much to me being free after tonight…hug?” Laughing you shake your head as Gamora’s eyes dart the door and the blood dripping down your face. “I knew a fed would sell me to make it, Gam. No one ever did anything selfless to help me…”
“Y/N, I tried…okay. Fury said you are as guilty as your husband and Steve. I couldn’t do anything to make him see you are a victim too.” Gamora sounds honest but you can’t risk falling for a trap.
While you hear someone yell orders you try to distract Gamora. “I guess we both got used to making sure the men ruling our lives get what they want. What a pity, Gam. We could’ve left town hours ago…”
“You would’ve taken me with you…?”
“Could use a good friend but…” Shrugging you glance at the door. “I guess you never were my friend.” When the door bursts open and armed men storm into the room you can see the fear all over Gamora’s face.
“Y/N…it’s not too late…” She whispers as she looks in the barrel of a gun.
Tumblr media
Four hours ago, …
“Did she buy it?” Smirking Bucky pecks your lips, slipping his tongue in to taste you. “I bet you played your role well…”
“I can fake an orgasm without sweating so…” Giggling you slap Bucky’s chest as he starts growling low in his throat. “When and with whom?”
“I was making a joke, Buck. Now back to business. Is everything prepared? Everyone ready, Baby?” Sliding your fingers through Bucky’s short hair you smile as he softly presses his lips to yours.
“All done. I want you to go with Sam, he’s waiting outside. Let’s do this and after tonight, we are free…” While Bucky nods at Steve you feel the knot in your stomach tighten.
“Steve, make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid. You know my husband, he’s a red-blooded guy…” Steve pecks your lips, nodding against you. “I promise, I’ll have an eye on Buck’, now go with Sam. Thor will wait at the hideout…”
Twenty minutes later you walk toward the car to leave your house…forever…
Tumblr media
Three hours and twenty minutes ago, …
“Get her! She lied and we ended up in a war with Laufeyson and at least twenty men! No sight of Barnes and Rogers. She lied!” Fury yells as the driver pushes the car to its limit to ram your car.
Before you know what’s happening the car is upside down and you call for Sam.
“Sam, god…can you hear me? Please don’t be dead…” The door gets ripped open and two strong hands drag you out of the car. Using way too much force the agents makes you wince in pain.
“You are arrested for…” Fury tries but you scream for Sam, pointing toward the car.
“Shut up and help Sam! Aren’t you the good guys? Don’t you know how to do first aid? Let me do it if you are too stupid to do so…” One of the agents slaps your face, and you can feel a bruise form.
Fear makes your chest tighten, still, you spit the blood dripping from your lip into his face. “What a great man you are, hitting an injured woman as she begs you to save a friend. Move your lazy ass and help Sam!”
“Sir?”
“Get him out and check on him. She will come with me and Gamora.” Before he turns to walk toward his car Fury fists the man’s jacket, glaring at him. “If you ever hit a perpetrator again you lose your job. I will report you. Now let my agent bring her to my car…”
“Yes, Sir. Director…” The agent hitting you stammers as you only have eyes for Sam. You can see he’s breathing, and moments later he yells at the agents.
“Let the paramedics check on Wilson and bring him too. I want to interrogate him later…”
Tumblr media
Now…
Gamora’s eyes meet Bucky’s angry blue ones as he glares at the agent. His gun aimed to her head he doesn’t flinch as more gunshots echo through the building.
“Steve, keep her under control, I’ll take care of my wife.” While Steve handcuffs Gamora to the table Bucky checks on your bleeding forehead and lip.
“Who did this to you, Baby Girl?” Pressing his scarf to your wound he gently cups your face. “Who?”
“My forehead, it was the accident. They rammed us in their car, and I got hurt. My lip, there was an agent, he hit me. I asked them, or rather yelled at them to help Sam.” Bucky is clenching his jaw but there is no time to punish the man hurting you.
“We should go, Buck. Time is running out on us. Storming into the building with guns took us too much time.” While Bucky takes your hand to lead you out of the building Gamora calls your name.
“Y/N, this is your last chance to be free…to live the life you want to.” She tries but you smile weakly.
“You fine agents hit me, refused to get a lawyer here and even let me bleed for hours. I’ll pass, Gam. This is what I want, this is the life I chose…”
Tumblr media
Epilogue…
“Another one, doll?” Smirking Bucky watches you tan your skin while you sip at another cocktail. “Or do you want a better…cock…tail…”
Huffing Steve falls into the sand, lazily stretching his body. “She had me not half an hour ago in the warm water…”
“Punk, I told you to not draw any attention…” Laughing you turn around to toss your bikini top at your husband.
“We bought half the island, Buck. I think we can do dirty things in the water…” Getting up your straddle Bucky’s lap and he wraps his arms around you. “In the sand…everywhere…”
“I am for permanent vacations, guys. I don’t know about you, but I like the sun, the cocktails and all…” Steve exclaims as his eyes drift toward your ass.
Tony smirks as he walks toward you and your men, not missing to get a glimpse of your chest before Bucky presses you closer to his body.
“Stark, what are you doing on our side of the island?” Laughing Tony sits in the sand, groaning as he slowly gets cabin fever.
“I miss my empire…” Tony glances at Sam walking toward Steve to hand him a satellite phone.
“Boss, it’s Loki. He wants to know how long you will be on vacation. The feds are a bit crazy over there right now…”
“Well, my brother can handle this for sure,” Thor smirks as Jane drags him toward the water. “Tell me if we are going back anytime soon…”
“Guys?” Blinking you look at Bucky and Steve before all three of you shake your head.
“Sorry, Tony but we are out of business…well kinda. Loki is taking care of business and we are on permanent vacation, Stark.”
“Permanent…shit.” Falling into the sand Tony covers his eyes with his arm, groaning as he is bored to hell and back. “How about I’ll invent more stuff?”
“Go ahead, Ton’s we all need a better air conditioner. Invent one not striking in the middle of the night and you can come over to our side of the island any time…”
“Alright, young lady…”
“Now…let me enjoy another cocktail.”
“I must say, our new life ain’t that bad…” Bucky exclaims as his hands wander to your ass.
“Not bad at all, Mr. Barnes. How about you and Mr. Rogers follow me inside?”
“We will follow you anywhere Y/N…”
The End...

That’s the Difference
// unedited, I apologize. Clearly taken from an episode of FRIENDS. If you know how the episode goes, then you know how this story goes.
Sirius Black, the bachelor. The single bad boy who had no intentions of doing anything serious, {excuse the pun,) somehow had come to a point in his life where he had two women. Who he loved.
The first was the blonde bombshell, Marlene McKinnon. He had been fawning over her for years. Something about her drew him to her, but he never thought she was interested. Mainly due to the fact that they had been very close friends and she had never showed any. Her best friend was Lily Evans, and his was James Potter. And ever since they had gotten together, the rest were forced together. Marlene and Sirius had a complex relationship before that, filled with insults and teasing. But once they set that aside they quickly became friends. Friends who very much enjoyed insulting one another. And perhaps friends that would occasionally wind up drunk in the others bed.
Only recently did that stop. When Sirius’ parents had found a match for him. A pureblood to marry, one that they approved of- and that miraculously was not already related to them. (Not directly at least.) But what was even more astonishing was that Sirius liked her. He really really liked her. He would go as far to say that he /loved/ her.
She was beautiful, funny, witty, and hated her parents. She wanted nothing more but to leave their house forever but she had a younger sister that she was afraid to leave behind. A situation that Sirius knew all too well. They bonded fast, once they realized how similar their lives were. They made a pact that if their parents made them marry, then they would oblige, and as soon as both their siblings were old enough to get out of their parents houses and fight for themselves, they would go down as the first pureblood match to adopt in a squib or muggle or muggleborn or anyone NOT pureblood and ensure to not pass down any of their learnings to their kids. Maybe even fight against hte pureblood supremists that were rising. Travel the world. Her name was Julie Wilson and they were going to have the life they never thought possible.
There was one catch in their plan.
Marlene McKinnon.
The woman who set Sirius’ heart on fire. The woman who he would move mountains for. The woman he always thought was too good for him. They were nothing but friends with benefits. Marlene had made that clear herself. She said he was a good shag but nothing more. She went on dating and between boyfriends would find herself back in Sirius’ bed for a night or two. That was all. And even with that, it changed his world.
But, she was too good for him. It was never going to happen.
He thought.
But seeing Julie and Sirius so happy together apparently had struck something in the gorgeous blonde. She had approached him just the night before and told him that she was in love with him.
His mind exploded, his heart sank and he couldn’t move. He couldn’t talk. His only response was, “Julie.” Marlene nodded sadly and told him that she understood but thought she should say something now before it was too late. But he grabbed her before she stepped out, asking for 24 hours to think things through. To his own surprise, she agreed.
Now he was in James Potter’s kitchen with his best friends pacing back and forth explaining his predicament. He was sweating. Sirius Black was swearing in anxiety. This was a side he never knew he had and never wished to revisit.
“Make a list,” Remus suggested, “Write down all the things you love about both of them, I find writing things down helps me.”
Sirius rolled his eyes.
But James picked up a quill, “You only got a day mate, let’s try it.” Pulling out some parchment he put both girls name on the top and underlined them. “What have you got?”
Desperate for anything, Sirius shrugged, “Well there’s Julie and Marlene.”
“We know that part,” Peter giggled. “Let’s start with what you don’t like! It’ll be more fun.”
Remus spoke up, “Wouldn’t the good-”
"No, he’s right. They’ll be more fun and faster. He could name what he likes about both girls pretty much forever,” he didn’t say it in an annoyed way. He just knew what he sounded like when he talked about Lily. Although there wasn’t a single negative thing he could come up for her. “Whoever has less bad is the one for you.”
Remus tried again, “That doesn’t sound like a great-”
“Marlene isn’t very good at magic or school.” Peter started straight away.
James jotted down, ‘not smart.’
Remus sighed but Sirius went along with it, “That’s true. She also cares more about how she looks than Julie does.”
James wrote, ‘shallow.’ “This is great, keep going.”
Sirius ran his fingers through his hair, “I don’t know, I can have these long talks about everything with Julie. She understands what I’ve been through and Marlene is just... She doesn’t get it.”
James wrote, ‘half-blood- doesn’t get things.’
Caving in, Remus went next, “She drinks a lot, when you two are together you drink more.”
James laughed and wrote, ‘future alcoholic.’ Looking up at the time he realized it was later than he thought. Lily was coming over for dinner and would be here soon. He looked at Sirius still thinking and decided to speed things along, “Alright so what about Julie?”
Everyone went quiet, they didn’t know Julie as well as Sirius did. They barely knew her at all. Sirius did not have anything to say either. James was about to say he had his answer there when his lips finally opened, “She’s- she’s not Marlene.”
His words made James forget about Lily. He looked at his best friend, dropped the quill and went over to Sirius, “She’s Marlene. You’re Sirius. I think you know what to do.”
Sirius’ eyes lit up, “You’re right, I am /serious./” Everyone moaned but Sirius skipped out of the room. James rushed everyone else out just before Lily came over and excitedly told Lily all about what was about to happen. As soon as he was done breaking Julie’s heart, Marlene and Sirius would finally be a real thing.
And the rest of the evening went without incident. James had a lovely night with Lily, he made her a fantastic dinner, only using muggle techniques. She guessed that Remus helped since there were no fires and sheepishly James admitted that she was right. But the gesture was still appreciated and James could not stop smiling into the night and even bright and early the next morning. He got to wake up to the most beautiful sight he had ever seen in his life. A sleeping Lily Evans, in his shirt and in his arms and his bed. He kissed her lightly before sneaking downstairs to make her breakfast. What he wasn’t expecting was Marlene walking in the front door just as he started cooking the eggs. (This time with magic.)
“Marlene?” He asked confused, “What are you doing here?”
She let out a small smile, “I just was erm... wondering if... Lily... was here?”
His brows raised, “SIRIUS isn’t here.”
She faltered, “That’s not what I asked.”
James couldn’t keep his mouth shut, he was about to say that Sirius was just breaking up with Julie but the door opened again and it was the young Black himself. James dropped the full egg onto the frying pan but grinned, running upstairs to wake his girlfriend with something much better than just breakfast.
By the time they returned downstairs however, it did not sound like a new couple just getting together. James wouldn’t have been mad if he walked in to them having sex on his counter top- and honestly it was sort of what he was expecting from these two.
But when James realized what was in Marlene’s hands his heart dropped. Lily asked what was happening but Marlene answered for him.
“Not smart? Shallow?” She started, her voice shaking as she read.
“No, no- that’s not what it looks like,” Sirius pleaded, looking over to James, “That’s not even what I SAID.”
“Oh so you DID say these things?” Marlene cut back, eyes looking back to the paper. “Half-blood, doesn’t get things? FUTURE ALCOHOLIC?!”
Sirius looked to James and James wished he could disappear. “No- Marls just listen.”
“LISTEN TO WHAT?!”
Sirius was lost for words, James piped up, “But look at Julie’s side!”
She did, it was empty, “Nothing. There’s nothing,” she passed the sheet to her own best friend who looked at it disgusted and hit James’ shoulder hard. James cursed at himself, he hadn’t gotten around to actually WRITING what Sirius had said.
Sirius’ voice dropped lower, “It was suppose to say ‘not Marlene’ because she’s not you and you’re per-”
“I am not smart, shallow, and only a half-blood according to you.” For the first time in his life, Sirius could see real tears forming in Marlene’s eyes. His heart broke and he tried reaching out for her, but she pushed him away. “I can’t believe- I can’t even believe!”
“I know,” Sirius decided fighting wasn’t going to help. He had to apologize, he needed her to know that he loved her. “I’m sorry, I love you. I love you so so much Marlene McKinnon. I love you so much that I broke up with Julie for you. My family will never speak to me again and-”
“Well that doesn’t matter to me because I’m just a half-blood who wouldn’t understand.”
"No, that wasn’t suppose to even- It doesn’t matter!”
“IT DOESN’T MATTER?!” She shrieked out. “Just imagine for a minute that someone that you loved and trusted made a list of reasons not to be with you.”
“I shouldn-”
“Then used that list,” Marlene continued, holding back tears, “For reasons NOT to be with you.”
It went silent, they could hear Lily and James breathing from the corner where they stood perfectly still, witnessing their best friends hearts break, but with no way to stop it.
“Even if you did,” Sirius said gently, “I would forgive you for it, because I love you.”
“Well, I guess that’s the difference between you and me,” Marlene finally replied, exasperated, her hands were by her side and her eyes were so fuzzy she couldn’t see, she took a few steps closer to Sirius, “I would never make a list,” she finished, reaching behind Sirius and opening the door to leave.
Sirius did not chase after her. He knew that he couldn’t. He had messed up. And messed up badly. He looked to James, he wasn’t even mad. She was right. He had made a list, he had made those points and if it hurt her, then he was in the wrong.
His chest heavy, he waved to James and Lily and walked further into the house, he knew his way around, he knew where the spare bedroom is. The room Mr and Mrs Potter had said he could live in if he ever needed a place to stay. And after breaking up with Julie, he ruined his last chance with them. There was no where else to go. And there was no more Marlene. Maybe he was just a screw-up like his parents had always told him.

CONSUMING PASSIONS
Interview by Gavin Martin Taken from Uncut - September 1999
Tumblr media
In the heart of Texas are Diana Ross dolls, alien movies, fanzines, photo books, American soul and something in leather - just a few of the favourite things; that loom large in Sharleen Spiteri's world...
Gene Clark Memorial Fanzine
Tumblr media
“I could be wrong, but I don't hear many people talking about Gene Clark least of all any of The Byrds. I think he's the most underrated talent to have come out of the Sixties. Such a beautiful voice. When Dennis Wilson did his solo album, it sounded like the sea and Gene sounds like the wind - that sounds stupid but it's something organic that he has and it's the essence of being a good singer. I feel really sad when I see footage of Gene Clark with The Byrds banging the tambourine. He's like, really like music, but I don't really like it here. 'Sometimes I think I know how he feels."
Chic's "I Want Your Love" 12′
"For me, it's a great record, obviously, but it also brings back memories of making our first record. We'd just done a few demos, been signed by a major label and we were told Bernard Edwards wanted to produce our record. I was like - YESSSS! This is the best business in the world. We went to LA and what I remember about Bernard is long games of table tennis, four changes a day and many, many trips to the bathroom. At the time I was 18, and I didn't know what it was all about until one day when he disappeared completely. We were told Bernard was upset because a Chic movie was being made - Eddie Murphy had been cast as Nile, but he was being played by some no mark. As if that gave him the right to get off his face and fuck us off! That was a very early lesson - my bubble burst right there."
"Divided Soul: The life of Marvin Gaye" by David Ritz
Tumblr media
"David Ritz is the ultimate Marvin Gaye writer. He's done other books, but you can tell from this one that Marvin is his true passion. I love Marvin so much but what I love about this book is that it's not a Hog that just goes on about how wonderful the subject is. This is balanced, and it makes the case that Marvin is interesting outside his music. Considering the records he made, that's an amazing achievement. The interesting thing is the way it starts - the beginning is the end of his life because it's about his relationship with his father - that's what makes it a wonderful story. Tragic but wonderful."
“Aliens” DVD Box Set
"Sigourney Weaver is not a role model, but she can kick ass. I wouldn't put any actresses down as role models. Or anyone, for that matter. I like the suspense of these films, but I don't find them scary. I like the whole idea of the story and the way the stories run into each other. The first one is definitely my favourite, but it’s an amazingly consistent series."
Diana Ross doll
Tumblr media
"I got it at a toy fair in LA for $I50 - it was patented in I977 and registered to The Motown Corporation Of America. Totally cool. I was with Johnny (McElhone, Texas guitarist and songwriting partner), who is always collecting Star Wars stuff, but I really love Diana Ross and I had to have this doll. I collect quite a few toys. I haven't had this out of the box but I do keep fixing her hair because it keeps falling over her face, which really bugs me. She's got great eyelashes and blue eye shadow, just as I remember Diana had when I was a kid. There's a big thing on the Internet now where people are trying to make clothes for these dolls. Fuck that! I've got some of the original clothes with Diana's face on them. She wont get to wear them, but she can look at them in her wardrobe."
“Something Leather” by Alisdair Gray
"It's a book about a really straight woman who works in an office, never does anything very exciting, then one day she sees this leather dress in a shop window She buys it, and it changes her whole life. It's three short stories that go off in tangents but come together in the end. To me, that's really clever writing. He doesn't write from a female perspective - I think that stuff about men being in touch with their feminine side is a load of shit, actually. The writer's a man, and he writes about sex and everything else from a male point of view, which is fine by me. I hate it when men try to be something they're not."
Jeff Wall Photo Book
Tumblr media
"It's a really nice, really simple book of beautiful modern photographs. His theme is just life generally - people, space and time. I've got many photographic books in the house - every time we do an album cover it's an excuse to buy some to get ideas. I always think the best way to find what interests you is to go to the photographic section of a bookshop and find what you like for yourself. People get far too much handed to them on a plate. I've got a videocam and a DVD but I'm old-fashioned - nothing really replaces photography. It's one of my big interests. If I weren't in a band, I'd either want to be a photographer or a carpenter."
"Atlantic Rhythm and Blues" Box Set (Vinyl edition)
Tumblr media
"Everything you need to know is in this box, the best education you could have. it filled in a lot of spaces for me. Sam and Dave I always loved, but people like Barbara Lewis I never knew before this and I really got into her. I got it when I moved into my first flat. I spent so many nights there with nothing in the flat just listening to this. Even on the Marvin Gaye box set I'll skip tracks, but this is brilliant from start to finish."
"Doctor Alimantado Born For A Purpose"
"Number One - what a great title. The record itself is just filthy, it makes you want to do the whole thing. it's not dreamy beautiful like Gene Clark, where you can just lie back and go 'Aaah' with this, you have to get involved. When we did The Hush, Studio One was a major inspiration, I know it sounds different but the whole sensual sexiness thing came from our interpretation of it."
