"Granite Obelisks", by Vasyl Symonenko

Written in 1962 about 1917.

The original poem in Ukrainian:

PS from me, because I feel the translation does not reflect the meaning well in several lines.

1) The first 2 lines about granite obelisks crawling - is meant to describe the visual of how grave obelisks multiply before your eyes, when many people die too fast - as if those obelisks are crawling all over the land

2) I would omit the "But" in the beginning of the 3rd line. It shifts the meaning somewhat, but I can see how it was added for the verse's rhythm.

All in all, without trying to rhyme it, this would be my TL:

"Granite obelisks have been crawling and crawling over the earth - as if giant squids - until they had no more strength and stopped.

There's simply no more room for new graves in the graveyard of the murdered illusions"

3) The 2nd verse - I'd change the line like this:

"A million faiths - all buried in the ground

A million fates - all grinded into dust"

Small, but I feel like it translates better the meaning of many multicultural lives being snuffed out in this land by the people who come to subjurgate us.

This is a picture from half a year ago, but it occurred to me yesterday while I was keeping Lilja’s head in place during her second treatment that these animals really have to trust us a hecking lot to just let us do these things to them.

She’s been drugged to stay calm and feel a bit less as her teeth get filed down from being like a staircase to nearly straight (it was bad, now it’s almost good). Machines that make loud noises and vibrate get put in her mouth and there’s weird smelling dust everywhere. Meanwhile her human is gently patting her hair and praising her for staying put, and half an hour later she’s back with Fjara and eating hay like nothing happened.

Same goes for the other 3 (namely Týra, Solita and Ieniemini), who just come walking up to you after all that, asking for a treat (and a brush bc it’s shedding season and they’re all itchy ladies).

I don’t really think about it often, but sometimes it’ll hit me how much they trust that we have their best interests at heart and they know this in their own way.

#brb crying but in a thankful way #anyway Týra is fully okay again (had a freshly broken tooth pulled)#Lilja can actually chew normally again now and with one more treatment she should be normally aligned again #same goes for Solita and Ieniemini!#Hviða and Fjara were both fully alright and only need yearly check ups now #Lilja…Lilja was off worst and had basically spent longer than I like hanging a jaw like a bulldog #lower jaw forward #she couldn’t put it back bc her teeth had been ground down wrong #I could tell at first from the weird squeaky noises she made while chewing #and then lots of shaking of her head and holding the bit #but now at this point in time 1. all her hooves are nice and regular and supporting 2. she can move her jaw normally and 3. her entire body #is physically okay (got checked by a physician yesterday)#she’s mentally happy as well (was a bit down since December (same Lil. same.)#I’ve been making an effort since for both her and me to spend more time with her #I wasn’t well and aside from it taking a toll on me it also took a toll on her #naively I didn’t think my absence would matter #stupidly even. my own sad brain got to me.#lesson learned: horses make happy chemicals in the brain. apparently humans can do that for their horses too.#and now I’m crying again. been doing that a lot lately🥲#anyway the trust my horses have for us are not something I take for granted and it’s humbling and an honour

my bg3 playing experience in a nutshell:

*gets confused in which order to do some quests* *goes to google and as causiously as possible tries to find the info* *spoils myself the biggest spoilers crucial to the story* x rinse and repeat at least 10 times during my entire playthrough

Oh Ho Ho what is the vegimal reflection theory u ask? :3 (if someone’s said this before pls let me know too!)

All the vegimals are like inverted versions of the main octonauts, I know the numbers don’t add up so some may double. This is based on character and highly around the A Very Vegimal Christmas episode. It is hinted at through Gup choice and which ones visit in the rooms looking for the crew, n how they are in the episode. I could go way into detail maybe after octo-week, but Tominnow is the complement of Kwazii:

Kwazii is braver, daring, more confident, stands out, sure of himself, more loud I guess too

Tominnow is smaller, quieter, more clumsy and more gentle

It has been hinted that Kwazii could be trans by meomi, and I think it is a common theory in our lovely community. This further supports because if Tominnow is an opposite, Kwazii being ftm and Tominnow being mtf makes sense👍

All vegimals that we know of are referred to as he, having only one she (that we know for sure) doesn’t rly make sense ig if all vegimals are the same just varying veggies and animal combos(the books).

I hc Tominnow prefers Kwazii too, I think they would totally be pirate buds and he would teach her the swashbuckling ways >:3 Also had a lil hc that Tominnow liked the Gup B so much Tweak designed a special (much smaller) version based on a Dwarf Lantern Shark :3
