There’s something so visceral about the only heroes who thought to save the villains being children. They don’t have the same corrupt system that the adult heroes have drilled into their head yet, they may have had faith in it at the beginning of the year, but after being put through a war and seeing how much both sides suffer under the system their mindset has evolved. The way Hori is using the new generation of both heroes and villains to demonstrate how the way society functioned for hundreds of years is just wrong and needs to be fixed is incredible.

I don’t know if the cenus buero can fully lie, when bad said “do you know where cellbit is?” It said “I don’t know” that isn’t a definitive no or yes so it can kinda deflect the question but not fully lie Yknow? When it doesn’t want to answer something it just goes “I hope you enjoy the island” that is also deflecting the question
i don’t think it can! it defaults to “i don’t know, maybe” a lot of the time because it means that whatever way things end up falling (yes or no) it’s not lying. i think it functions by fae rules of not being able to lie, but still being able to deceive and manipulate the truth, which is interesting! because while it still can’t lie, that doesn’t mean you can/should take its words at face-value, because not lying doesn’t necessarily mean telling the truth

the gen v finale felt a little all over the place. episode 7 was better idk?? cate seemed weird. we got crumbs of jordan content so little to say there. marie blowing up cate’s hand was predicted but even then it didn’t really stop her since cate can just use her other hand?? i know she did it to protect jordan but yeah, anyway… season 2 when??

tbh after finishing i kind of retract the enthusiasm of my recommendation (but not necessarily the recommendation itself) for he who drowned the world. i still found some of the themes it covers really refreshing in the fantasy genre (for ex the descriptions of recognizing yourself in others across queer identities felt v real), but the way it covered them ended up feeling incoherent/unfocused in an area that imo especially needs precision in order not to blunder into insensitivity. (i also in the middle of reading saw people saying it treats eunuchs ahistorically, and frankly i know nothing on the topic and wasn’t drawn to the book for its historical elements—“real-world setting with tiny magical component” isn’t my jam—but that does match up with the whole slew of weirdness i’m feeling overall.) i’m glad i read it and the overall plot kept me interested but i’m hoping it’s the start of a trend in the genre rather than something to point to as “hell yeah, they did it”?
