I feel like 1 (one) of the reason the fan favourite ship of a fandom ends up being despised so much is that usually, they are comprised of one (or both) characters being fan favourites. But there is one that is more favoured/popular and the ship ends up feeling like it exists for that character. And if you're a fan of the lesser liked/popular character you kinda have to see your blorbo changed and made to service that character in real-time.

REVIEWING THIS WHOLE BAG OF RUBBER BUGS:

I mentioned recently that bags of cheap rubber bugs are harder to come by in real stores, but that there are a few options for them online. I just received this set from Aliexpress that’s currently only $4 with free shipping, you might even find the same set cheaper since there’s multiple listings for it, but I can verify this source is using an accurate photo and I am now going to REVIEW THEM:

SPIDER: obligatory, all-purpose spider, ambiguous species, noodly legs, minimal paint application, 3/5

COCKROACH: nice silky black coloration on the back, tan on the underside, rather haphazard leg pose, I like it but in terms of objective quality it’s unfortunately a 2/5 compared to other fake roaches and even to other bugs in this set.

DRAGONFLIES: so this set is definitely pieced together from what were once multiple different rubber bug sets, but I can also confirm that you always get the same selection I’m reviewing, which includes several redundancies. You get both a large and small dragonfly with entirely different sculpts, the smaller one more accurately sculpted but not as dynamically painted! Both I’d give a 3/5, adequate dragonflies

ORTHOPTERA: you get a cricket AND two different styles of grasshopper! The big, detailed black and red cricket is crudely painted but very unique, 3.5/5. The small grasshopper is cute and inoffensive, barely painted, 3/5. The large grasshopper is a 4/5 for me because while I’ve seen plenty like it, it has a really nice gradient from lime green to a darker grassier green that I just find very pleasant.

BEES: two very differently sculpted bees, and they both use a sparkly metallic gold with black stripes. Both deserve a 4/5.

ANTS: collectively I’m gonna say these are a 3.5/5, on their own very plain but I like that together you have a dull yellow-tan ant with comical googly eyes and a bigger, more ominous shiny black ant with spooky red eyes. I like that the black ant is also tied with a couple others as the largest bug in the set. It’s actually only slightly larger than the real life Giant Amazonian ant, Dinoponera, which is also entirely black.

MANTIDS: excellent choice for another double bug, I like the simple cheapness of the little one with its awkwardly sculpted forelegs but to fair it’s a 2/5 compared to the 4/5 of the larger, red-eyed mantis which has more of that “sparkly” paint style!

SCORPIONS: the only other arachnids in the set, and it’s amazing they included two different scorpions but only one spider. Trust me when I say that’s the most radical maverick decision a rubber bug set has ever made in the history of mankind. The small red scorpion is alright, a 3 I guess. The larger one has only six legs which is not accurate (the claws of a scorpion are modified mouthparts, not legs!) but I can’t look at its little black eyes and not want to cry so 5/5 actually.

CICADA: not terribly common in these! Charming, chunky brown cicada, though the thorax piece is so transparent you can always see the hole it plugs into. At one time, this sculpt may have been part of a higher quality set that actually painted over this design flaw. 4/5 regardless.

FLY: there’s a pattern here in which almost every flying insect in the set has a gold-brown base, which I’m not a big fan of. Sadly I’m overall neutral on this fly, normally my favorite of all the basic insects, perhaps because it looks just as much like some sort of wasp. It’s definitely a fly due to having only one pair of wings, and plenty of flies look exactly like this, but I’d just be a bigger fan if it was a chunkier, larger-eyed blowfly or horsefly. 2.5/5

UNKNOWN: there are actually several insects this could possibly represent including a few Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera, but the one insect it most closely resembles is an adult caddisfly. I like it, but it’s difficult to fairly judge it with no certain identification so 3/5 has to do.

HAWKMOTH: stellar choice! I’ve seen only one cheap-grade plastic hawkmoth in my whole life, actually! Several hawkmoths are even clear-winged, though those usually still have dark markings around the wing edges. Would’ve been more accurate to some real species if they just cast the wings in a solid color, but that’s a trivial criticism. 5/5

WASP: the wasp is SO good. The paint on this one is skewed funny but that’s fine, the green of the abdomen pops really well and I love the grouchy red eyes. 5/5

CATERPILLAR: larvae are so rarely included in these, and when they are, they’re often an incredibly plain segmented tube that doesn’t look like anything in particular, or a recolor of a generic caterpillar I’ve seen several times before. This caterpillar sculpt is actually new to me and nicely shaped, with a tapering body and accurate limbs. It is however a rather stiff hunk of plastic, not as rubbery as the others, and honestly this is the one you would want rubberiest! Still a 5/5 for its inclusion at all.

BEETLE: beetles are the most abundant, diverse insect group and the most common rubber bug toy after spiders, so it’s another bold move that they include only one in this whole set and it isn’t even one of the more recognizable, more famous beetles. On its own merits as just a rubber beetle it’s a 3/5, but its metallic blue stands out so nicely in this set, and the sculpt appears to be some sort of blister beetle, a rare choice and a very cool (but dangerous! Don’t touch them!!!) insect group so 5/5

MOSQUITO: mosquitoes are another of my favorite animal groups, and as one of the world’s most abundant, most recognized, most controversial insects you’d think they’d be a standard bug toy already, but this is only the third plastic mosquito design I’ve ever seen in my entire long life! It’s brown, unpainted, dinky and bent funny. 10/5

SPACE CAMP REVIEW!!

(honest, in-depth)

Shipping took about a week and a half but it arrived in perfect condition and undamaged

-packaging is super cute! not super complicated/over the top, but also not overly simple. my order came with a valentines day postcard and a silver "space camp" logo sticker.

-right off the bat, i can tell these are definitely bigger than any other lip balm i have ever used. they also have a higher quality feel to them.

-i think the "pocket safe" turn wheel is super unique, not something i've ever heard of before! it definitely does help protect the lip balm from damage when not in use.

-the jumbo size tubes allow for more surface area coverage when applying to the lips, making application quicker and easier

-all lip balms apply super smoothly, and feel soft and moisturizing on the lips. there is no "waxy" feeling left behind on the lips as with other brands.

Wild Cherry

-smells exactly like a cherry lollipop i would have eaten when i was younger. its not sickly sweet or overpowering, but you can definitely tell what it is.

-the cherry taste is very mild. i can almost taste the beeswax/sunflower oil a bit more than the cherry, but by no means is the taste bad!

-other cherry flavored lip balms (chapstick, burts bees) tend to make me feel a little nauseous for some reason? but this flavoring did not give me that effect.

-overall really good, but i would've liked to be able to taste a little more of the cherry flavoring!

Frosted Mint

-smells exactly like mint ice cream, just as advertised. im not always a big mint person, especially if it is a stronger scent. this scent, however, is just enough without becoming overwhelming.

-the taste is also exactly like what mint ice cream tastes like. i really enjoyed this flavor, its not one that i see super often as a lip balm flavor so it was very interesting to try!

-it leaves a slight cooling feeling as well as a mild tingle on the lips, which is not my favorite. its nothing like if you were to use a lip plumping gloss or anything like that, but i know a lot of people could dislike this, especially if you tend to be sensitive to certain sensations.

-i think this is a really great flavor! i was happy to discover that it does really taste and smell exactly as it was promoted. once again, i would not recommend this flavor if you are sensitive to cool or tingly feelings on your lips.

Juicy Watermelon

-i am not exaggerating when i say that this smells HEAVENLY. i had a feeling going into this that it was going to be my favorite flavor, and it did not disappoint. if i could hold it under my nose and smell it all day, i would. its the perfect amount of sweetness, almost like candy. i wish i had better words to describe it, i feel like my explanation wouldn't give it justice.

-if you can imagine biting into the most perfect, red, juicy, sweet slice of watermelon, that's how this flavor tastes. i have tried other watermelon flavored lip balms in the past, and this one is by far my favorite.

-i honestly have no complaints about this flavor. literal perfection

Do I recommend?

currently, they are only available to purchase all three as the Launch Pack, set at $36 + shipping (USD). my shipping was only $6, which is significantly lower than some of the other shipping costs i have seen. so in total, i paid $42 for the three lip balms (about $12 per tube).

taking into account that they are USDA organic and significantly larger than most retail lip balms, i do still feel like the price is a little steep. if there was an option to purchase individually, i feel like this would help that issue. to be fair, Nick did say this option will be available in the future.

if you are willing to pay for it, i would say its worth it. the quality of the lip balms definitely reflects the price, so its not like you are paying for low quality product. however, if you are somebody who does not want to pay at least $36, or if you already know you wouldn't enjoy one or more of the flavors, you are better off passing on this, or waiting for a future launch with different flavors and the ability to purchase individually.

i am personally very happy with my purchase, and i don't regret it at all. there are obviously things that can be improved on, but you have to take into account that this is a new brand that is still working out the kinks.

im super proud of Nick, and im excited to see what the future holds for Space Camp Wellness!

Invitation to the Deep  - Term Glossary

Hi Everybody!

I was blown away by people’s interest with Invitation to the Deep, and to continue sharing the love (and because I’m a nerd) I wanted to continue the glossary in a more readable form.  The term definition overviews were really blowing out some of the end notes, so I decided to shuffle everything here, where I can make a nice tidy list.  It’s in alphabetical order per chapter, because to do it any other way would have annoyed me.

As I say in the story, please, please take everything you read with a grain of salt.  The story is fictional, some of the scenarios I put everyone in are blown well outside the bounds of plausibility.  I don’t specialize in diving, much less tec diving, and my marine license has been expired for a good few years.  Someone who has a metric ton of dive experience is J_Bailler, who wrote the outstanding ‘Thermocline’ in 2020, and whose technical experience inspired me to get my hands dirty with this fic.

I won’t continually reblog this post, but I will edit and update it each time I update the story itself, which will contain a link to this. 

**I am apparently now editing this post with the final additions of the story, only to acknowledge that many of us have now had a crash course in imploding submersibles.  I only have two main comments on this - the first being that I originally began writing and later publishing this story early this year, and the second is that the entirety of this story occurs less than a kilometer below sea level.

Chapter 1

FIFO - fly-in-fly-out.  Usually applicable for people working mines, oil rigs, or certain other trade jobs where the site you work on is highly remote.  You might work a 4-on-2-off schedule, which is where you’d fly out and work on site, staying in provided accommodation for 4 weeks, and then you’d fly home for 2 weeks before rinse and repeating.

LKP - last known position.  Think vessels (or submarine pods) lost at sea, or who’ve sent up distress signals before become non-contactable.

Lucet Tenebris - an entirely fictional underwater cave labyrinth set somewhere off the Indian ocean, near Indonesia.

Ring of Fire - Too long to explain in a post.   A very real and not made up geographical feature of the globe.  https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/ring-fire/

VHF - very high frequency (radios used at sea).

Yamaha - in this setting, a boat engine.  Noisy.

Chapter 2

Neoprene - The material wetsuits are made out of, to help people keep insulated and stay warm under water.  

Chapter 3

Fenders - big squishy things you put between ships to stop them damaging each other if they bump together.  Also used to stop boats banging into the wood/metal of marinas.

Chapter 4

Blood bent - a version of a slang term used to refer to decompression sickness (DCS) where pressure changes alter and form bubbles of the gases naturally inside human blood vessels.  DCS can often cause air bubbles to settle in and around major key joints and cause people to bend over in excruciating pain, which is how it got its name, the bends.

Embolism - In diving contexts, a gas embolism or an AGE would usually refer to a bubble of air in the blood.  This is really, really bad - it has the potential to shut off blood supply to major organs including the heart, brain, or lungs.  There’s no short or simple way to explain how they form, put if you look into barotrauma embolisms it’s a fascinating matter.

Equalising ears - Underwater at changing atmospheric pressure, water pressure bends the eardrum inwards.  You equalise this change by a variety of techniques, the same way you might in an aeroplane.  If you keep going deeper and don’t equalise your ears, you run the risk of damaging them or blowing them out completely.  Hurts like a bitch.

External airway - a measure of first aid and emergency resuscitation - if there is risk to an individual’s own airway collapsing or not being able to be maintained in the middle of an emergency scenario, intubation or an external airway implementation will be performed at speed.  An intubation tube is semi-rigid -the aim is that when you’re connected to oxygen, we want full confirmation that the air is traveling down the trachea and into the lungs, not stopping in its tracks because the airway’s collapsed.

Hyperbaric chamber - would suggest searching for a picture.  In a hyperbaric chamber, air pressure is increased higher than normal air pressure so a person’s lungs can pull in more oxygen than they would under normal circumstances.

Chapter 5

Klick - kilometre.

Neoprene ratings - Wetsuits come in varying thickness.  You might see them referred to as a 3:2 or a 5:3 or a 7:5 - this would indicate the material is 7mm thick over the chest and torso, 5mm thick on the arms and legs.  The thicker the material, the warmer you'll be.  The deeper you go, the thicker you'll want it!

Chapter 6

Buoyancy vest - also known as a BCD. It allows you to control your buoyancy in the water, allowing you to easily float on the surface without sinking under all the weight of your gear, and maintain neutral buoyancy while submerged (so you don’t sink further than the depth you are aiming to go to).

Dive computer -  a meter or device used by divers that measure elapsed time and depth during a dive, and use this data to calculate and display an ascent profile which will aim to prevent DCS.  Most will also monitor real-time ambient pressure input, some allow for gas switching during the dive, other features include water temp and compass info.

Gas blending - To dive at the depths of this fictional reef, you can’t just use straight oxygen or atmospheric air.  Gas blending mixes very specific concentrations of a variety of gases to create a breathable component.  It’s very specialised work and you have to undergo highly specialised training to do it.

Tec diving - I’m going to borrow J_Bailler’s explanation and hope she does not mind, which explains it far more concisely than I can.  The key differences between regular recreational scuba diving and tec diving:– scuba divers use air or air mixed with oxygen and generally stay at depths shallower than 40 metres.  Tec divers use various mixed gases to be able to go deeper and to stay there longer.  To breathe pure oxygen at deep depths can kill you.  Technical diving also includes cave diving almost as a default term, because you need advanced training to dive in an enclosed environment that has a ceiling.  In a normal dive, if something goes balls to the wall wrong, at least you can come up, whether you bend your blood or not.  In cave diving...

Trimix - Put simply, trimix is a blended composition of oxygen, helium, and nitrogen, used on deep descents.

Safety stops - planned stops as you reascend from the deep to decompress and allow your blood the chance to off-gas the excess nitrogen forming, and hopefully prevent decompression sickness.

Cleat - The metal, wooden, or plastic part that protrudes from a jetty that you tie off a boat to.

S&S34 - A fibreglass monohull sailboat, primarily designed for cruising and racing.  For those of you who are interested or know the name, this is the yacht Jessica Watson sailed around the world in, at age 16.

There's so many good ones, it's hard to really pick favourites! There's just certain times when I'm more into certain things than others, you know? Sometimes you want something a little more cute and sometimes you want something particularly violent and horny, so it's a little hard to say I have definitive favourites

That said!! Generally when I go into a new ship tag, the first things I sort for is either fake dating, identity porn, or sex pollen. I also enjoy undercover mission fics, but that's only applicable to the DC fandom and generally roped in with the fake dating tag!

Not the same anon but I love your answer to the louis question ! and you are SO right, many people who hc him as such 1. don't ship him with anyone 2. don't really care about him as a character outside "haha he hates sherlock" jokes so it really feels disingenuous. aroace headcanon in general from allo people often give me the ick, they're treated like the woke cousin of the "pair the spares" trope

I definitely know at least a small handful of people who headcanon Louis as aro or ace or aroace because they themselves are. And that's fine! They seem to have a very different relationship to that aspect of themselves than I or most of the community I have built around myself over the last decade, but that doesn't make them wrong.

So I don't think the only reason one would make this headcanon is because they're dismissive of Louis as a character. There are other reasons.

But there are definitely some people who seem to be using it to add something to their version of his character. He's one of my favorites and I really think he (and most of the major cast, honestly!) really has a rich, complicated characterization in canon. But a lot of it isn't applicable to certain transformative uses of his personality, or people are bad at reading and don't pick up on it, or they just aren't interested in it, so they sort of mentally replace the canon personality with stuff that interests them: a queer label or funny jokes, etc.

I think his having a distinctive sexuality (which he doesn't in canon) makes him feel more like a person when they cut off, say, his stoicism, his ever-present Operations Manager excellence, his fastidiousness, his ten-star ability to compartmentalize and behave rationally despite his storm of emotions, or whatever else. To some people, sexuality is a really important part of someone's character. So they want him to have one, and give him one.

Sometimes allo headcanons or ace or aro people make me uncomfortable and unhappy because you can just feel the unsmothered aphobia in it. But sometimes a-spec people also have them, and it's like, please, you need to unpack some things. Or the creator needed to unpack some things, depending on how rooted in canon it is. Every marginalization gets this.

(For what it's worth, I don't see Mrgh bits of this aspect in the canon. I have see a lot of aphobia in fanworks for this series)

I think Louis might be a product of stereotypes, and maybe some carelessness. But I think him being headcanoned that way bothers me less because it doesn't feel inherently biased, more a little...presumptuous, maybe. It's a stronger assumption about him than I'd prefer to make.

1. What's your oc's gender identity? What's their relationship to their gender?

Lady Terror (by necessity of victorian convention) is to all the world a woman, but in all honestly? Like me she's non-binary but definitely aligns herself with womanhood. Like I think internally she doesn't see herself in binary terms, but does have to deal with much of the restrictions of womanhood of the period and actively rejects a lot of those, whilst also inserting herself into male spaces (such as this naval expedition) to that very point. She spends a lot of time seeking acceptance for the person that she is rather than the trappings of what her gender according to Victorian society demands of her gender (and with a certain handful of crewmembers- especially those on Terror, she finds that).

2. What's your oc's orientation? (Romantic/sexual/platonic alterous ect) Do they have opinions about it? She is queer! Though many wouldn't guess that of her (or perhaps maybe some of the men on the ship would- victorian male misogyny is one hell of a drug).

3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know? It wasn't until her 20's that she really started discovering who she really was. Outside of the house she grew up in she found a love for life that she wouldn't have otherwise, and I think the more time she reflects on the things she felt as a child and the things that set her apart from her peers and them from her, and the more she observes and interacts with people who live outside of the English Victorian "norm" the more she's learned about herself and accepted about herself and refuses to give up for anyone else.

4. Is your oc's environment supportive about their identity? How does this impact them? ... It's victorian England. So that's a hard no- at least on the larger social-strata front. But having traveled, and seeing so many other ways of life, she found more support in some of the oddest places, from folks in lands in which they made port, to people on the ships themselves... She finds (and even creates in some cases) little pockets of support and she can't be more grateful for them.

5. How did you figure out your oc's identity? Copypasted from me lmao. Wouldn't be much of a self insert if she wasn't.

6. How does your oc feel about labels? Theirs, or in general? She's sort of half and half on them honestly. Like she thinks that for some it can be helpful and important (but also- to name the thing is very dangerous, and she knows this, and is concerned for their safety- but that doesn't come without deep respect for other's gender and sexualities. Like bar-none.) But for herself? Not so much. Probably from all of the trauma of trying to be boxed into an identity for a very long time.

7. Is there something that could cause your oc to question their identity? What? Exposure to other cultures honestly. The more she sees of how people live in other parts of the world the better she understands things about herself.

8. Have they had struggles with their identity, be it due to internal or external reasons? Being that this is a whole show about the meaning of identity and the social implications that identity brings and the conditions required to allow those things to fall away??? Yeah I'd say she has some struggles with that herself- especially with what it means for her to be a woman in this specific place with these specific men and in these specific circumstances.

9. Are there cultural or lore specific aspects to their identity? If applicable, does their species affect it? Ummm... not that I can think of?

10. Does your oc celebrate Pride? How? Lmao since there wasn't much of that in the Victorian Era, no. BUT!!! I have thought many times of her and francis going to pride with pronoun pins and leather jackets and the like (I actually have a she/they pin that I bought recently and wow ok I'm going to cry thinking about it because it did make me feel so seen just to purchase it- francis touting a bi flag patch on his leather jacket right next to one about eating pussy is also so so important to me).

11. Is your oc open about their identity? Are they more lowkey or more blunt about it? Why or why not? Absolutely ABSOLUTELY low-key. From a lot of the historical accounts that I've seen it was definitely *easier* to be a queer woman and be in a queer relationship in the victorian era, what with so many accounts of women living together and such. But considering her standing and her line of work that's something she keeps close to her chest until she knows she's safe with the person she might reveal such a thing to.

12. Does/did your oc ever wish they could change the way they are? Why? If it's in the past, how did they get over the feeling? (this can be about internalized homo/transphobia) She doesn't- but there have been a people in her life who have wanted that of her. They don't last very long in her life when they do.

13. Would your oc be open to a poly relationship? Why or why not? ... I've written and continue to write Lady Terror AND Francis in threesomes with SEVERAL other terror characters. Some of them are actually canonical to the main story even. So yes.

16. Did you ever change an oc's identity when they were already established? Why? I haven't really... but anything is possible!

17. Do you share identity with any of your ocs? Which ones? Lady Terror for sure, but also Thanna Aeducan (from Dragon Age... who is also a self insert) .

18. Do you prefer to give your ocs specific labels, or keep it unspecified? Why? If applicable, do you change their labels depending on circumstance? Eh? I mean yes and no and sometimes when the story merits (but I've always been a big believer in ambiguity and interpretation and nuance. so there you go).

19. Do you have preferences about depicting homo/transphobia in your stories? What, and why? Does it vary by story? As with everything with me, it always varies depending on the story. For Lady Terror specifically though I feel like I'm taking a very multi-faceted approach not just describing the horrors of the phobias that people had culturally at the time surrounding queerness but also uplifting queer narratives and depicting historical queerness (which this show has a lot of in canon anyhow, and that's definitely a part of why I love it and the fandom by extension so much).

20. Have your ocs helped you in self discovery? How? ACTUALLY!!! FUNNY YOU SAY THAT BECAUSE YES!!! It was a very long time ago (maybe like 10 years ago) but when I was really into AOT I made a trans oc that I shipped with Levi and reading about trans and non-binary experiences for that I started to question my own identity as well and eventually through that I figured out I was non-binary!

21. (and fuck it I'm going to do the free-space anyway). She brings several erotic novels with her on the ship that she keeps stowed away carefully that absolutely nobody finds out about. That's all. That's all I wanted to say. You can go home now.

What this blog is about:

It’s a writing/fan blog for primarily Sephiroth, but I post about other characters too, time to time. I also like to reblog dark FF7 aesthetics and comment on them.

Inbox is always OPEN for requests, rants or chats, so always feel free to send something in. Go to character lists if you’re looking for a specific AU. 

Spoilers from the FF7 games and other FF7 related-material will be unmarked and discussed openly. So read/browse at your own risk!

What I write:

- Analyses, Angst, Fluff, and Horror (especially yandere) headcanons, scenarios, drabbles, occasional fics in the FF7 Universe. I will only do non-FF7 characters for the Dissidia AU. 

- You may request headcanons and scenarios but the prompt’s final format will be to my discretion. Please note said requests are not guaranteed and are done on my time. Be respectful. 

- I typically write for female/gender neutral darlings, please specify what you want in a request or I’ll just default to female. I can do male darlings on a case-by-case basis (just not super confident in writing them).

- Specify what’s in your prompt/requests. (Don’t go overboard though, need room for writing to breathe, some details are just fine)

- Specify the character(s) you would like in a prompt/request, and the AU if applicable.

- I like to write posts on character’s morality, their personalities and such. Refer to my kink list below to see my favorites and other writing genres I like to dabble in.  

- The character limit for scenarios is three. The character limit for drabbles and headcanons are two (not including the reader/darling. HoS AU can be an exception to this). 

- The writings will primarily focus on reader inserts.

- I'll likely alter some (usually minor) parts of your request to fit my writing style, so don't anticipate everything to be exact.

-This blog is just a hobby for me. I NEVER want it to feel like a chore. 

- Courtesy goes a long way when requesting. Saying “Please,” “Thank You,” requesting something that hasn’t been done yet, or putting some thought/effort into your ask can definitely help with response times. Also, reblog your requests PLEASE! It’s incredibly demotivating to write something for someone and they don’t bother to appreciate it. 

- DO NOT follow me and/or interact with me if you expect me to be a writing machine, pumping out requests left and right. I don’t do that and I'd rather have five followers that appreciate and interact with my content rather than a hundred who only show up to request without bothering to say thank you or even reblog it when it’s been done. If you’re just here for the “fics/hcs”, then go somewhere else, please.  

- The amount of engagement I receive determines how active I am. If you do one or more of the following: send me asks, reblog, or engage with my content. I will love you eternally. 💜 And In return, you receive that energy back tenfold. THIS is how fandom stays alive. Many of my AUs and best works were born out of the support and engagement of genuine supporters who engaged. They were certainly not from silent or unappreciative readers. 

Why/What/When I don’t write:

- I don’t write about sensitive topics such as ableism, racism, and homophobia. The same rule applies to writing about certain health issues. It’s fine to ask questions/requests prompts like "How would X support a chronically ill darling or their darling being their caregiver when they're sick," but I prefer not to write about anything extreme. If you’re not sure, you’re always welcome to ask. I don’t bite. 

- I do not write darlings with overly specific descriptions (including OCs), yandere darlings, and suicidal darlings. 

- Refer to my No-No’s kink list at the end of this post for things not to send in. 

- Requests are not guaranteed. I write when I want to and IF I want to; I am not a writing machine, but a human being. 

- There is no definite timeline for when your requests will be fulfilled; this could take anywhere from minutes, hours to weeks or whenever, depending on the inbox's activity and my energy levels. Like I said, having interaction AND engagement with my content really makes me more willing to do requests.

- Do not demand me (asking and soft encouragement are fine) to continue or do a specific piece. I may do follow-ups if I feel there is enough material for me to work with and there’s enough interest in continuation.

 - Do NOT repost, translate or make any derivatives of my works whatsoever. If you want to write something based on or set within my works, please ask me first. 

- Rudeness will not be tolerated, you will be blocked immediately.

- Don’t spam like my posts. Show genuine support by at least reblogging ONE thing.

- Seriously, don’t follow this blog if you don’t like the possibility of seeing dark content showing up on your dashboard. I tag the best I can but even I can make mistakes. Also don’t follow if you’re here for the “fics”. You are not welcomed here. 

My writing characteristics: 

- My writing has a tendency to be wordy and I will probably decline/delete requests asking me to go too out of character for someone or something.  

- When writing, I must gather my thoughts and explore them so it will take time for me to work through asks. I do not go in order of what has been received! I go with whatever inspires/captivates me the most at the moment. And don’t always expect long headcanons/scenarios or whatever you requested. If it’s all what I have to say, then that’s all. Don’t like what I said? Then click off this blog and find somewhere else. See this post for why I’m picky about what requests to take. 

- I try to keep characters close to their canon counterparts, but I also like putting them in interesting (or wacky if we’re feeling silly) situations they have not faced in canon. Of course, liberties will be taken when needed. And obviously, these writings are based on my interpretation of these characters.

- I do not prefer to use Y/N or _ in my headcanons, scenarios, and drabbles. I think it messes with the flow of my writing and it can be jarring at times. I do typically use the term “darling” to mean reader, _ or Y/N in my writings, even outside of a yandere context. I use S/O (in scenarios) sometimes!

- Whether it's headcanons, scenarios, or analyses, I pour my heart and soul into my writing. Therefore, I will only work on things that fascinate me and entertain prompts or requests only from polite anons and/or supporters. There’s little point to work on something people won’t appreciate. So now, I’m not going to waste time submitting work for the endless void to eat if I don’t enjoy writing the request. Sorry (not sorry) but certain people are why we can’t have nice things

A bit more of a fun ask from my last one,

So, post (very post) possession story, Sparklez and Tom get back from their isles side story and it takes almost a month for Jordan to find out that Capsize is alive and kicking. Someone lets it slip (not that they’ve been keeping that from him, it’s just never come up in convo and Capsize is lowkey avoiding him)

“Oh if you wanna know more about that you should ask Capsize.”

“….ask Capsize?”

“Yea you could probably find her with Spark or Alyssa or—“

“She’s Alive???”

“…”

And Jordan goes to Spark and finds Capsize there, fishing or playing cards like just being friendly, and the interaction between him and Capsize gets intense really quickly. Jordan ends up calling “Trial!” because Capsize implied that the S.S Jerry sinking had something to do with her. This turns into a courtroom drama with Spark as Capsize’s lawyer and Andor as Jordan’s.

Because when your items are stolen or your base griefed well then ya better call conway!

I’ve pitted the man who wrote the book on dagrun law vs the guy who abided by it, so it ends with them just arguing Dagrun laws even tho none if any are applicable in the s1 realm.

Who’s the judge? I don’t know because if you make it Ianite she definitely suffers from Capsize favoritism (it’s chronic), so she’d be biased. But they definitely have a jury of their peers made up of everyone else.

I… I just love this so much. This whole situation is so funny and it's great.

The idea of Jordan just not realising Capsize is alive because she's been avoiding him is so funny but genuinely in character for both of them. Jordan is completely baffled by the fact that no one thought to mention this, meanwhile Capsize is really worrying that Jordan might still be really misinterrupting their relationship and is just not in the mood for that. And yeah, that first interaction is going to be so awkward, even before the arguing starts.

As for the whole trial, I can definitely see Jordan wanting one and then getting annoyed that Capsize is not taking it seriously at all. Mostly because Jordan had something to do with her original ship sinking so sinking one of his should be fair game. Spark has told her that she can't say that out loud, but like she sees no consequences even if she's found guilty of this.

Spark and Andor being the lawyers is so funny because I imagine the one major change to the laws since Spark left (other than the whole Mianite being the one true god thing) is that the death penalty was introduced for so many petty crimes. Despite this not being an important difference because they aren't going to kill Capsize even if she is guilty, Spark is just a bit concerned about what the hell happened.

I guess the judge would end up being Jeriah? Maybe Mianite if they manage to actually get him to show up for this nonsense. I can't think of anyone else they could argue not having a bias. The jury is definitely just there to be entertained by the mess that's unfolding.

For a couple of stupid ideas of that could happen: -- Capsize insisting any crimes she commited before being revived no longer count because she died between then and now. -- Everyone really insisting that they thought Jordan knew Capsize was alive. -- Multiple discussions about if certain people should really be on the jury because they they clearly have a bias towards one of the two, with the decision being that the biases end up balancing each other out.

Are you seriously trying to say that seeing fang and vanille as romantic is invalid? This is fandom, there are NO ships that are invalid and not being able to see Fanille as romantic specifically just means you're either homophobic or blind! The only reason you talk about Dion is just because you can't deny it, you have no choice

***This will be a long post, but I will say one thing to be considered outside of what otherwise is a long address to your behavior below, so this can be considered as I move forward for even other readers:

The heart of my main point is that Fang and Vanille have no material that doesn't fit within the context that has been abundantly given to them. Flat out. This has no bearing on how many boxes they can fit into for certain aspects of their actions/relationship (i.e. handholding can have a functionality in many contexts), but what is clear is that they're at least still at home in the one created specifically for them, with context that has no deviation from said meaning definitively or even lesser, convincingly.

Thing is—if someone has an interpretation that doesn't directly coincide with information at every single turn, as if it's all just wrong by the means of your thinking, that the information has no significance and is basically a lie in what it's pointing to, continuously, all the way to the end of the series, while it still has no other information to definitively or full proof, logically conclude it as false—maybe you should either change the configuration of your thinking, or just, include it, and just have both the understanding of "what is" AND your own personal desire and thoughts. And if you think you're correct, or just most likely correct with room for possibility of something else on a technical ground, then find better ways to actually convey that than the anon above.

Now, as for the ask:

I don't really know why you cut off there, but I'm not even going to link the 2nd part of the ask—this is all I need.

Nope, not in the way you mean it anyway.

"Seeing them as romantic" is exactly what it is—it's not "invalid" in the way of human thought, to feel or interpret it as freely as you want to, as anyone ever has. Like, as a thing you can just do. That is part of what fandom is for. Nothing can stop someone from applying romanticism other than themselves, and it's application is FAR and WIDE, hence why it happens for even the most unconventional and taboo ships a lot. Like, a lot. Ships of which you hypocritically would most likely turn around and bash someone else for if you happened to disagree with it. I've seen it too often to not also notice how it's in the same wheel house as your behavior. Step into particular circles in the FF7 fandom and "double standard" would be the name of your game.

So, to be clear: not once have I ever indicated that people CAN'T/SHOULDN'T ship couples if they're not actually canonically romantic. In which case, I would define canonically romantic as any pairing of which has romanticism applied to them directly or through reliable subtext—endgame doesn't matter in that sense of the "true" of positive romantic tonality.

However, any actual stance I would ever take or conclusion I'd draw will mostly align with a critical, close understanding of the characters and story, with a complete recognition of what's more personal interpretation on my part vs. what I'd recognize is supported information and a better conclusion. The only reason I'd say a ship isn't "valid" in retrospect to the product in itself is if I'm arguing it isn't confirmed or reasonably conclusive of having the mentioned romantic tones applied—but that's validity in terms of the strict understanding of the characters and story functionality, that's NOT about one's ability to simply see the material in favor of romanticism. It's not the same thing or the same argument unless you're directly trying to debate that something IS romantic in functionality and meaning. The "I can see why people ship this" isn't really evidence in and of itself, now if it was part of a thought of how I'd argue there ARE romantic tones, directly or subtextly, then I'd be doing a lot more than what I've personally seen Fanille shippers do, or many shippers or those who romanticize them for that matter. And even within it, I'd still be exploring all options within all information and reasoning that would back up the claim.

This is the exact reason why, for instance, despite being a hardcore Aqua/Terra shipper who absolutely indulges in romantic interpretations of the characters, I'll still be the first person to also say there's not any actual solid romanticism written for them (yet), and what's there still easily fits within what HAS been described for them and exists as supported understanding of their relationship.

Some stories are straight forward and allow this to be easy, even if through reasonable Occam's Razor. Some are not, in which case I would even conclude that there's no definitive answer of where it falls. Within the confines of human thought, such as "people can think this is romantic" and I can see how, based on what I understand for how people can romanticize things (whether it's something I personally see too or not)—this isn't going to tilt the scale over the direct evidence that supports one conclusion over the other, though.

It's not that it's unreasonable to ship Fang and Vanille, but I do think it's unreasonable to not accept what the material has shown and spoken for when it also hasn't shown or spoken for it to be treated as inaccurate. Specifically, if what it's saying and what shows falls "deaf" on your ears or you're intentionally blocking it out because of your own personal history/perspective as opposed to a fair understanding, that's something for YOU to figure out, that isn't my problem, or the materials problem. But mostly, it's unreasonable be the kind of person you are—which is exactly the kind of people I've seen ever since the first game even came out.

I mean:

Seriously?

Is there ever going to be a moment where people don't seriously see the hypocrisy? There's the idea of "letting people ship" (as if it could ever be stopped) or to "accept there are different perspectives", and yet, from my long experience in the FFXIII since it's creation, I've seen the complete opposite MORE from people who ship/see romanticism between Fang and Vanille. I see it within your words.

You COULD be the person I talked about: "I can see this happening between a couple but also know it can happen without it".

Instead, you're literally a hypocrite, and are more the "how can anyone POSSIBLY think differently than I do as it's the ONLY explanation that could exist"

People like you are only worried about the word "invalidation" when it preserves your own thoughts. I've seen it many times. If you REALLY wanted to talk about the material, you'd do that. If you REALLY wanted to challenge my reasoning and argue that it's flawed, you would do that.

But you don't. That's not what you did.

You really think Fang and Vanille sleeping next to each other due to the latter's trauma is a part of their "romantic code"? Then tell me how—tell me how the actual presentation of this information in the novel from both Fang and Vanille's perspectives, the scene with Sazh in the game, and the plethora of other information that paints a complete different picture of the tonality of this meaning for their relationship is wrong and/or less reasonable than "it means they're fucking".

You really think two people who've lived together the majority of their lives, are a close-knit family (that was even ostracized from their "old" family), and are thrown in a world unlike their own with people still unlike them—wouldn't still stick together and represent this common meaning in media? Okay, then present your through the logic then, go through the logic of how this possibly isn't normal in media that has fantastical settings, where the characters themselves already have unconventional lives to begin with, and how it's unlikely that it would be written without romanticism in mind.

YOU put in the work and actually talk about it, and realize the difference in what's your own indulgent interpretation vs. a more strict understanding of what everything is. You think it's fact? Prove it. You think it's the more reasonable conclusion? Prove it.

But you won't, no one has.

People like YOU are the ones who insist your personal interpretation IS the truth without even a conversation about the topic to create an environment where it can be logically and cohesively discussed to even be evaluated. Your literal conclusion about ME and the characters in this Ask is created solely on the different understanding alone and your own ugliness. Where's the conversation about the actual material?

Because things like the above, they're all the conclusions you've drawn on your own, and you have your own reasons, but you sure as hell didn't get there in a discussion with me, so don't act like I'm the one with the problem for not being convinced to take your opinion over my own understanding.

Your thoughts weren't made concrete to me by actually TALKING about the characters or the story, evidence, or the scene WITHOUT inserting your personal spin on what the characters are doing—it's just straight to an irrational notion and accusations that are child-like. YOU are the one who showed no attempt at being reasonable.

But no, it's YOUR interpretation that is valid without breathing room or understanding of other reasonable thought, it's YOURS that should be coddled and at the forefront within fandom, and everyone else that says different is WRONG because if they don't see it the way you do, then they're the worst possible things.

While there are definitely things that I believe are dumb, like your behavior, I have never said that the idea of shipping Fang and Vanille is dumb. It's never been the crux of my understanding. I actually have a lot of thoughts about the specific nature of that topic, of which I've actually barely touched upon in the things I've written, because I haven't said them. You have no idea and that's not my problem.

Why?

It's not what I wanted to concentrate on and don't have to, nor what I wanted people to address in discussion by creating the posts I did. Rather, I mostly want to talk within a more strict view of who the characters are and what the material has to say about them. I'm going to use evidence, and bounce that back to the material itself to gain an understanding that already COULD have been interpreted anyway. Doing this, I've even changed how I understand other character relationships because then I was able to understand what I MYSELF thought was actually counteractive to the evidence itself, even if I personally still felt a certain way.

When you just have a showcase of your ability to interpret character actions/motivations in a romantic/sexual light (which typically encompass describing it in a way that didn't ACTUALLY happen), which is super easy to do and is literally acting within the way of "not seeing a different perspective"—of course I'm not going to take what you're saying over what the material is saying and how it DOES fit with THAT understanding over yours. I'm also not going to respect you coming at me for having the ability to do this either.

So, when it's said that:

"you're homophobic if you don't see romance"

"there's no heterosexual explanation for them"

"you're just being heteronormative"

I mean, what? Do you think I'm going to say "you're correct" on any of these things without a second thought? Because you're not—and I'm not going to broadcast that as an opinion. You're just wrong. And you can find out why by having a conversation about myself, and we can have a conversation about the actual material, thought processes, what I perfectly find reasonable or not, etc. We CAN talk about just your personal opinion as well, but you're too busy being an offensive, childish hypocrite that needs to act like you got some damn sense.

And that's the thing, this isn't new. The game's been out for over a decade. I've seen all I've needed to see in how people talk about Fang and Vanille—I've done the research and found the information all myself, I did my part. I talk about Fang and Vanille also BECAUSE of fans like you, to take down misconceptions and provide full context on the characters in an otherwise hyper-aggressive environment where shipping and/or romanticism is considered above even the ability to have a decent conversation. Because strutting around just saying "they're lesbians" wouldn't be as bad if you weren't doing it WHILE you degrade anyone who sees differently, without any attempt at understanding the material itself without brushing it off without critical, fair thinking, and if you actually had a conversation with me, all these words of "not seeing a different perspective" would be proven to be untrue immediately.

char's ao3 crashcourse for tumblr fic writers

hello and welcome to char's ao3 crash course for tumblr fic writers. the main target audience for this post is the gorgeous sav of @faeology but instead of fighting with the tumblr dm system, i figured why not just make it a post that i can format a little nicer! the images won't have alt id's but i will do my best to describe the steps so that the images help, but aren't required!

so, you've posted a fic to tumblr (and maybe wattpad) and want to post it on archive of our own (ao3) to reach a broader audience. but the formatting and site is a little intimidating to jump into, which is okay! the site has no algorithm because it's an archive. i can make another post on how to search for fics if you need a hand, but for now i'll only explain what is required to be able to post your fic to make it super easy for people to come across it

if you don't already have an account, you'll need to press "get invited" and wait for an email to make your account. depending on how much traffic is moving through, it may take a little bit to get the email. but don't stress, you will get it.

once you're in and logged in, go to the top right of the site and click post. a drop down will come up with either "new work" or "import work"

you can import your fic, but i don't because i write outside of tumblr and therefore am already copying and pasting the work. you will likely need to adjust some formatting the post if you import it, but if you're okay with that, then feel free! just paste the url into the URLs box

for the rest of this post, i'm going to explain the steps of "new work", though some steps overlap

so once you've clicked on new post you're faced with lots of sections of settings, starting with tags

within rating there is 5 categories: "not rated", "general audiences", "teen and up audiences", "mature" and "explicit". please rate your fics. it helps with filtering. think of the ratings like movie ratings. if you aren't sure what one means, there is a post explaining them, and i can find it if people need it!

next is archive warnings: "choose not to use an archive warning" (ao3 describes this one as "Use this if you don't want to warn for anything. You may also choose this option if you don't know what you should warn for; if you don't like warning for certain topics or warnings in general; if you want to avoid some spoilers, but not others; etc."), "graphic depictions of violence", "major character death", "no archive warnings apply", "rape/non-con" and "underage". once again, please use this correctly. select all that apply, some people rely on these for filtering

fandoms is pretty self explanatory. just tag the fandom. when you type in the fandom, a drop down of suggestions will appear, make sure you select the right one to help people find your fic in the fandom

with categories, this section is optional but is really important for reader insert/ship fics, because they denote the genders within the relationship. the information of this section from ao3 is:

"here are 6 categories of works on the Archive. While here we have given an interpretation of the abbreviations, the exact definitions of these vary from fandom to fandom and fan to fan; use whichever you feel are applicable, or else none: F/F - Female/Female relationships F/M - Female/Male relationships Gen - General: no romantic or sexual relationships, or relationships which are not the main focus of the work M/M - Male/Male relationships Multi - More than one kind of relationship, or a relationship with multiple partners Other - Other relationships"

for relationships, you need to know the difference between "character/character" and "character & character". the former is a ship or romantic relationship, the latter is platonic or familial. do not get them confused with familial to save yourself being found by the wrong people

when adding characters only tag the characters that are actually in the fic. think tumblr's tag system. don't tag people that aren't there like you wouldn't add an unrelated tag to a post (you won't get reported as spam there but you will piss people off)

finally is additional tags. use this to tag the fic type (fluff, angst, hurt/comfort etc), and also additional warnings that aren't covered in the check boxes above. you can also add things like "tommy and wilbur are princes and technoblade is a feral god that philza picked up from the woods" which is your own rambles and also additional info about the fic or a half joking summary (that is an actual tag from one of my favourite fics that breaks my heart every time i read it. it's beautiful). it is also very common to put your "no beta we die like [character]" tag here

NEXT! the preface section

here you add the fic title, the fic summary, and tick whether you have notes at the beginning and/or end. those are your authors notes and will give you either one or two new boxes to add your notes to (ignore the pseuds box. if you're new you will only have the one username appear.)

then there is the associations box

here you are required to set the language of your fic, whatever that may be. you can also tick if your fic has multiple chapters, is a part of a series, or was published on a different date (i usually end up using this box because i forget to post my fic on ao3 for a coupe of weeks lmao)

He saw the shift in her expression, smirking at her. “It seems we’ve met an agreement then, my love.”

“You still haven’t told me what you need,” Enora asserted despite her fear.
