GRIMWALKER BIOLOGY & ANATOMY STUDIES [pt 1 / ?? ]

(aka, my ideas and thoughts on how these bad but sad boys work!)

ok for starters! I tried my best to make real life connections with actual biological stuff and yeah but there are some things ima have to bullshit lol

[ ^ Basic ideas ]

Lets talk about anatomy!

From what i can tell from the grim walker ingredient book they have some pretty ... interesting ingredients...

GALDORSTONE:

Heart and Power apparently. What i can make of this is that the Galderstone not only powers and animates the non-organic materials but acts as a circulatory system, flowing blood and nutrients to keep the body stable by creating magical pulses of pressure that makes the blood flow. Blood is kind of ideal for homeostasis and living and om pretty sure we've seen hunter bleed at least once... Perhaps the Galderston can create an artificial vascular system to carry oxygen, magic, and nutrients throughout the growing body instead of just making veins from scratch. I want to say the Galderstone can generate energy for the grimwalker but that would mean they wouldn't need to eat, and I don't think that's true. I think its main purpose is just activate the magic materials and is like the generator to a car, keeping it running. If the Galderstone were to break or fail, the grimwalker probably come unglued and fall apart to its components (which would be pretty horrifying)

ORTET BONE:

Very key component! The ortet bone kind of helps form the blueprint for the species of the grimwalker, as well as supplying blood, a skeletal system, and components of DNA. The most basic definition of the word ORTET is as follows: the original plant from which the members of a clone have descended. Fun fact: since were using cloning terms, Hunter is to Caleb as Ramet is to Ortet (Ramet is an individual clone) I did research for cloning and as it turns out you kinda need a complete genome for cloning but for bullshitting reasons (which will be explained) we can clone with incomplete DNA and make synthetic dna from scratch! I hypothesis that the reason grims can look different from the ortet instead of just straight carbon copies is due to the bone that is used and how much of i there is. Like example a grimwalker made using just a toe phalange is going to look A LOT less like the ortet compared to a grimwalker made from something like the cranium and bigger bones and such. Basically smaller bones dont carry as much dna info and leads for room to fill in the blanks. Sadly this means alot of Grimwalkers had A LOT of health problems (this can range anywhere from immune system problems to liver failure which is quiet typical in clones, that and it is often that clones appear different from the ortet due to enviromental factors and influences)

[ As the image above shows, subject #103 has a very close resemblance to the ortet due to the bones that are used ] There are pros and cons to using bones! Pros being that they can hold DNA for much longer than tissue, but the thing is bones can degrade really easy if not preserved, and i don't think belos had a bottle of hydrogen peroxide laying around that he could dunk Caleb in, so let's just assume he made sure his brother's corpse was well cleaned and kept. Biggest con is the human body only has so many bones (about 206) I believe that the reason Grimwalker can generate organs is by using the ortet and making the stem cells created from bone marrow. Stem cells are very important because they can turn into different types of cells like blood and tissue cells as well as repair tissue. I believe the process of growing grimwalkers is kind of like "Self-renewal" the process in which stem cells divide and make more of the body

STONESLEEPER LUNGS:

Im just gonna assume stone sleeper had very small lungs because aint no way those t rex lungs fit in a teenage boy. I originally thought The reason that Grimwalkers can stay underground for so long is because the lungs, similar to how a stonesleeper hibernates for centuries (kind of like how wood frogs can basically cryo-hibernate) by petrifying but a grimwalker IS growing and therefore needs resources to grow, like how a baby does in the womb. So it has to be actively getting said resources so it cant be petrified. I now think the reason that grimwalkers have these lungs is because theyre easily compatible to the galderstone, which needs oxygen for the blood and that they can be easily harvested and stored in stone form. But that does give room for cool adaptations like self-petrification! (which i will get into next time :D )

PALISTROM WOOD:

Ok its says that the wood is used for keratin, which is a fiberous protein which can make all kinds of things like scales, hair, nails, feathers, horns, claws, hooves, and skin! And since its also a plant means it can grow 4 times as fast as normal keratin can! This explains why hunters hair grew so ridiculously fast in season 3, was because his hair can produce its own carbohydrates and nutrients on its own... This means his skin and surface wounds can heal quite fast! (down side is it might give him something similar to PSS (Peeling Skin Syndrome ) ...) I think Palisman is very important becasue of several reason! 1 Like palisman, it can "animate" if you will, more or less help pull off the illusion that he is alive. 2 Like mentioned before, Grimwalkers need nutrients to grow and I believe the palistrom wood aids in that! Using a process called cellular diffusion, the grimwalker can take in nutrients from the ground around them (which i theorize to be highly fertilized) through THEIR SKIN! and into the veins and flesh of the grims 3 I believe that in the process of forming, the galderstone "activates" the palistrom wood, forming into skin or hair but this process of rapid growth leaves the skin all undone and fragile because a proper cutaneous barrier was not formed yet (which is useful for being malleable. This is why Hunter's ears are so 1 .god blessed big because they are fake and molded to look like that. Its also why The grimwalker Belos possessed fell apart so easily, like he said "It wasnt ready")

SELKIEDOMUS SCALES:

This one kind of confused me because... well why do we need the seal flesh when the ortet can just regenerate it?? I think its kind of like the stuffing if you will, it also speeds up the process of producing flesh by a lot! Especially if you want to make grown grimwalkers! Im thinking that Grimwalkers don't have a set "age" theyre just as big as however many materials they are given to work with. Even though the book says they can start as babies, if you look closely there is a check mark towards the more adolescent figure, so im thinking that they are not ready to be unearthed until they reach a certain growth ima guess around the age of over 10-ish?? We don't know how young Hunter was pulled out of the floor but it seems like he was fairly young, or atleast younger. This means while Hunter appears to be 16, he might have only been living for around 5 years or so.

Now typically normal seals have a lot of blubber which is a thick layer of fat, also called adipose tissue, directly under the skin of a marine mammals. Its used for insulation. The thing is tho, it says Selkiedomus Scales, not flesh... Dont worry there are mammals that have scales like Pangolins but i dont know if these scales are like thick plated or small and stretchy. Magic bullshitting time, Im goin to assume Selkiedomus scales refers to a layer of scale-like flesh that protect the creature from boiling but is also highly malleable and easy to work with. Maybe the reason they can withstand such heat is due to unsaturated bonds of butadiene molecules mixed into the blubber that are highly heat resistant Selkie domus flesh is molded and into the relative shape of desired body and using the DNA of the ortet the flesh is reshaped and reused into the desired muscles shapes. The vascular system created by the galderstone spreads throughout the flesh and binds with it. healing together and becoming flesh, kind of like a speed up version of skin graft maturation! This is useful for growing them quickly because they don't have to grow an entire adult body from scratch so this speed up the process by eeeerrm 20 years or so lol

Thats only the basics for now, sooner or later i shall get into the more fun stuff, like adaptaions of Grim walker, the growing process, ad more!

Because of my love for fanfic and the Kotor games, theres a lot of headcanosn in this. I will find a way to involve Revan when I can, so he’s also there, in the background. Theres also a single Revan x Canderous mention.

Theres so much about Kotor in this, it really took a life of its own, so I hope you enjoy.

I missed writing star wars so bad, can yall tell?

First of all, being Sith doesn’t immediately make you evil. It just means you follow a specific religious groups way of teaching and practice their rituals to some extent. This means you use the dark side, and have nothing against harming others to reach a goal.

You aren’t as power hungry as other sith in this time, and you aren’t under Palpatine’s thumb. Far from it actually. The dark side is to some extent fueled by your hate for the empire and anyone involved with it, as you were once a jedi youngling when the purging happened.

You were a padawan at the time, and your master had always been very interested in holocrons and the past. Their most prized possession was the holocron of Darth Revan, or one of his many holocrons that had been left all over the galaxy.

So, after you saw them gunned down by the clonetroopers you thought you could trust, you ran, taking an escape pod to get as far away as possible. It just turns out you had been carrying Revan’s holocron in your bag at the time, and after landing on a smaller less populated planet, you had hidden away in its vast cave system.

You feared going mad for a while, as you were just a padawan, one who had lost everything. You were almost consumed by this anger and rage, so uncontrollable as you cracked at the edges and fell.

Revan’s force presence must have felt this inside the holocron, as he appeared before you, and guided you through it, keeping you from completely shattering your mind and becoming a beast hellbent on revenge.

From then on, Revan became your new master, leading you around the galaxy to find his other holocrons and artifacts as he taught you everything he knew, and to the best of his ability.

He was kinder than any sith you had ever heard of or met, and he taught you a lot about the sith empire and how not all sith had been power hungry madmen, that before the rule of two, they had been more on the stable side, to a certain extent.

He never claimed they were good people, but you didn’t need that, you appreciated his honesty. Along these journeys, you even found holocrons of some of the other sith of his like, like Malak, who was Revans old friend.

Malak hadn’t been happy about you in the beginning, but he had ended up begrudgingly taking some kind of master role to you, almost like a standoffish uncle. But thanks to their training you are able to stay completely hidden from the empire, and live the life you want to live.

You go where the force leads you, which just so happens to be places that Revan and other great sith of made themselves at home in the past. You had almost started cheering and singing when you found what some would call the tomb of Darth Nihilus, much to your masters embarrassment, as Malak looked at Revan with a lifted brow.

Your interest in the past had been something you had picked up from your first master as a padawan, and it stayed. It was something Revan had to accept as his force ghost watched you fanboy over a mummified hand of Darth Sion, or leftover notes left over by Darth Malgus on saber forms.

Your greatest achievement was your helmet. Or rather, your master’s old helmet. Palpatine had pretty much ransacked the jedi temples after culling them all, stealing whatever he wanted, and the jedi had owned Revan’s helmet for many years, locked away far away from prying eyes.

With your master, and uncle-masters help, you were able to sneak in and steal it right back, taking it from right under Palpatine and Vader’s noses. The helmet barely looked like a helmet with how old and worn it was, but the power inside it made it clear. It was Revan’s helmet.

Revan had gifted it to you, almost beaming as you teared up at the trust he seemed to put in you. You were sith alright, and your emotions were what fueled you, and your love for your master and his love for you was the strongest there could be between family.

You were able to create a new helmet, using what was left of Revan’s and other materials, one of those materials being Beskar you stole from the empire. You even painted in similarly to Revan but added some of your own touches.

Little did you know, this helmet is what caught your future lovers attention first. Mandalorians love a strong partner, and those that follow the creed love some good armor, so Paz couldn’t keep his eyes off you when he saw you the first time.

You pretty much just bleed raw power into the air around you, letting it swirl around you like a second armor and letting everyone around know you were a possible threat if crossed. That was the kinda person that had Paz sweating and his blood pumping.

You would meet because you found yourself on the same planet as the covert hes with, hunting down something left by Canderous ordo, some piece of armor, like a pauldron he had left behind for Revan as some kind of marriage declaration.

Its after finding these pauldrons that you meet Paz, and some of the other older members of the covert. Apparently, words of a guy in scary black and red armor skulking around was enough to have them weary.

In the beginning they might think your Mandalorian, from the style of your armor and the new unpainted pauldrons you have added to your armor, making them hesitate, but that moment of hesitation if all you need to launch an attack.

You don’t kill any of them, wouldn’t want too, but by the force do you kick their ass, another thing that has Paz feeling hot under all that armor. He almost wants to drop to his knees to say the marriage vows right then and there when you fling him over your head using one hand, the other reflecting blaster bolts with little difficulty.

What can he say, mandalorians fall hard and they fall fast, blame it on living such dangerous and hard lives. So, when he sees you aren’t actually trying to kill them, Paz hopes there’s a chance you might stick around.

You end up getting away, ignoring the cackling of your master and the glowering of your uncle-master. The tables turn when Malak starts mentioning Ordo and the love declaration through the pauldrons, leaving your master quiet and mumbly as Malak smirks. They are definitely the reason you don’t fear the sith of old as much anymore.

Paz grieves a little as he doesn’t see you again for a while, even though he tries to keep an ear and eye out for you in your black and red armor and that flexibility that has him gripping the wall when he thinks about it too hard.

In the end its Ragnar, Paz’s son, that brings you before them again. He had ended up in some trouble, and the force had almost screamed for you to help him. Listening to the force was what you did, so you helped the helmet wearing kid out.

Ragnar was smart, and had heard his dads dreamy mumblings and the other mandalorians teasing, so he could immediately tell who you were. One way or another, and though it’s extremely against the rules, he gets you to where the covert is hiding.

Paz shows up and starts worrying about Ragnar, cuz he loves his son and doesn’t wanna see him hurt, and when he hears its you who saved him, he starts feeling hot under the armor again.

On the insistence of the force, you stick around the covert. Paz takes the time to go about romancing like mandalorians do, by peacocking and challenging you to spars. He never wins, not even the ones where you don’t use the force.

Its humorous to see that large hulking back being wrestled to the ground by you, or thrown around like he weighs nothing. You can tell how he feels about you, but you fear acting on it, even though Revan keeps bugging you to do so, much to Malaks annoyance.

In the end you two end up getting together like how many mandalorians do or did. During a fight. Things were getting tough, and a couple of your allies had gotten hurt, even Paz was down for the count.

You needed him up and at em though, so you had reached down and pulled him into a keldabe kiss, pressing your helmeted foreheads together and told him if he got out of this alive, you’d let him take you on a date.

That immediately had him standing, even though his leg wanted to buckle from a stab wound. The enemy were taken out in record time.

Your first date goes a little awkwardly, as neither of you actually have any experience dating. You spending all your life as a jedi and then sith, and Paz being part of a pretty hard covert. But you two work it out, and it ends with you sparring and scuffling in the sand, which maybe lead to something more. The helmets stay on the entire time.

No one is surprised when you two start dating, or when you start becoming a permanent fixture in the covert. Sure, they’re weary in the beginning because you are an outsider and because you are sith, but they come to appreciate you.

They really start welcoming you when you can use your dark presence in the force to hide them away from anyone searching for them, or to take out possible threats. You even start teaching some of the force sensitive members. You don’t force them to use the dark side, but you do end up teaching them about the balance between both.

When Din shows up again, he doesn’t fully know what to do with the information that Paz went and got himself hitched, and to a sith of all things, but he sees you well you fit into It all and their creed, and who is he to judge.

You get on well with Ragnar, as he was pretty much the one to bring you to his dad, and the kid grows attached to you. Who else but him can brag about his powerful dark sider warrior dad? That gets him some brownie points from the other foundlings.

When you and Paz marry there is no big ceremony, its just a vow spoken between you and that’s it. You always find yourself cackling at the memory of how jittery he had been to see your face for the first time, now that you were married.

During all this time you hadn’t been against taking your helmet off, but you just hadn’t had a reason too.

Paz spends a lot of time just holding your face in his hands and taking you in, with you doing the same to him. Expect many kisses from then on, every time you are alone. He is really bad at kissing in the beginning, since he has zero experience, but he makes up for it with his enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Paz is still stoic around others and is a big presence, taking care of the dirty work and keeping people safe. But with you he gets to be soft, he gets to be weaker for once, which only fuels his feelings for you.

He never makes you feel like a monster for using the dark side, and he had marveled and just stared at your glowing yellow eyes for a long time the first time he had seem them, barely believing it was possible for them to look like that, just because of the force.

You are still a sith after all of this, and you still leave now and then to hunt down artificacts and other types of knowledge left by the sith of old, but you don’t feel as much urgency as in the past.

You even bring Paz and Ragnar along for the less dangerous ones, as a family trip. You can’t bring them along for most artifacts though, since you don’t wanna lose them to ancient sith traps or mind tricks.

It’s the stability you’ve needed for many years, and though you are still fueled by passion and emotions, it isn’t the same anger that you had harbored all these years. It was more the love you had for your husband and your son, and the fact that you would tear apart the galaxy for them if they asked.

The feelings are returned from Paz of course, and Ragnar too, as you guys’ care about each other deeply, as any family should. They do get a bit freaked out, even years later, when you tell them about force ghosts and how Revan is always present. Sometimes you say it just to see them subtly looking around, it’s hilarious.

i dont really know how to word it, but ganondorfs speech after his rehydration about reshaping the world, crushing opposition, as a king does. i just went "oh so like rauru but hes being more honest and less nice about it."

Yeah, like...the story's mostly uncritical nationalism, but there are certain lines that stand out that I interpret as Ganondorf's existence being a natural consequence of Rauru taking power. Not just as plain, mundane secular politics, but as the universe trying to rebalance itself after Rauru's attempt to build a perfect world by suppressing things like monsters and the blood moon that were a natural part of the world but he nevertheless saw as undesirable.

Take Jerrin's line about the Horned Statue, for instance:

"As there is the Goddess of light, then it follows that she would have an opposite—the horned god. Like light and dark, one cannot exist without the other—their power manifests through the other's existence."

The Horned God wasn't originally the opposite of Hylia. That role would be better suited by an entity like Demise. However, there's a certain implication that, in the absence of a competing counterforce, certain entities eventually emerged in response to Hylia's existence or were shaped by the consequences of her actions to occupy that niche. Jerrin's tone makes this process of opposition sound inevitable.

And then there's the Depths being a mirror image of the surface, a little like ALTTP's Dark World or ALBW's Lorule. The terrain of the Depths is an inverted version of the surface's terrain. The Lightroot names are even the names of the Shrines spelled backwards, and are in the exact same locations as their aboveground counterparts. As above, so below. And although the Depths were Ganondorf's prison, they eventually became his home and the metaphorical womb-of-the-earth where he could be nurtured back to health and reborn. As their ruler, he, too, is a mirror image of someone above: first Rauru, and later his descendants, culminating in the current Zelda.

As Rauru was the self-proclaimed King of Light, it would stand to reason that there would eventually be a King of Shadow who took charge over the things the King of Light refused to touch. Both the monsters and the blood moon, which IIRC existed well before Ganondorf took on the crown if Rauru and Mineru built the shrines to suppress them before the events of Zelda's memories, fall under the Demon King's dominion. And then there's that one theory that Ganondorf might be the Sage of Shadow, which made me literally say "oh shit" to myself because that was the one element that was missing from Rauru's stable of pals compared to the seven sages of Ocarina of Time. Of course Mr. Light-Must-Dominate-At-All-Times wouldn't want a Shadow guy around, even if they were an absolutely loyal secret-keeper and professional warcrimes-mess-cleaner-upper like Ocarina of Time's Impa.

But also...Rauru wasn't just "a king." The narrative presented him as the absolute monarch over the nation, literally sent by the gods to rule. He's elevated so far above "the common people" that even the leaders who aren't part of his Important Royal Bloodline are presented as faceless and subservient, always wearing masks in his and Zelda's presence and never giving their own names, as who they are isn't as important as their oath to serve the king. However, there cannot be absolute power without the capacity to abuse said power. No matter how "nice" the guy currently in charge is, systems of absolute divine-right monarchy are problematic by nature and inevitably create conflict. Ganondorf was the other side of the coin of absolute kingship, the uncomfortable truth lurking in the background, never outright said but always felt. It's kind of why a lot of our ancestors got together and agreed the whole "divine-right monarchy" thing wasn't a great idea.

The recoil makes it fun

Most everyone in the known Universe agree that a stable and noise-free space ship is preferable to anything not that. You know, due to space being so bad for your health. Stability means safety, noise-free means things are not breaking, which is always great!

Pure silence, however, can be deceptive, so you do want controlled noises in there, such as small beeps at regular intervals indicating that everything is fine. Soft green and blue lights are good.

By that logic, Johann Utsushima then must hate green and blue. His ship, Kitaiyohdzha, is always blaring orange and red lights and barking annoying warnings at him.

Things like: "Low pressure" "High pressure" "Not enough power" "Overload detected" "Insufficient oxygen" "Dangerous oxygen levels"

Like, make up your mind! One or the other, stop it with the extreme ends. Johann has resorted to do the time-honored tradition of ignoring the check engine light and instead stays in his suit all the time. It's his rickety mess and he knows exactly where everything is and how it should be, don't go telling him how to run HIS ship. Especially you, ship, don't tell me you know better.

An astute observer may notice the fact that Kitaiyohdzha is a giant rail gun with a cockpit, engine, thrusters, and basic life support systems attached. Or what's left of them anyway.

Mr Utsushima loves guns. And I mean LOVES them. This one in particular. He can't get enough of it. Literally. He couldn't, so he kept ordering bigger and bigger ones. Kitaiyohdzha is the biggest one (21 meters long) he can legally get without being part of or associated with the military in some way, or registering as a "redistributer". He would not pass the background check to do either.

This, however, does not stop him from modifying his guns. It's a lot of effort, very expensive, and quite complicated. Well, for him. Because he does not document anything and not even God knows how many iterations and past modifications he has made to Kitaiyohdzha to make it what it is today.

None of the matters though. The only time the world makes sense, when everything is exactly as it should be, is when he pulls the trigger.

Space. Quivers.

You can't hear the discharge, but you can feel it from a great distance.

Johann is not at a great distance. Everyone would say he is dangerously close, and be factually correct. Not even a meter from the power generator that enables the rail gun to fire a piece of tungsten at relativistic speeds in order to completely obliterate a poor and unsuspecting little asteroid just gently floating through space. Or is it a meteor? Comet? Doesn't matter, they all explode more or less the same.

Johann likes to watch the recordings of him firing the gun. It lets him know what happened, because the moment he fires Kitaiyohdzha, every time without fail, he loses consciousness from the sudden g-forces hurtling him and the "ship" backwards for thousands of kilometers before the barely functional automatic stabilizers return him to rest.

But that moment right before his mind goes blank. THAT is something you cannot explain to others. You FEEL it. The power. The force. The raw... just, THAT.

It's the only thing that keeps him going. Where to? He doesn't care. Simply forward through life.

∆ please help us

we can not afford any of our basic needs

i usually try to keep this as light as possible, but i have put this off for long enough that i have to post this. me and my partner desperately need help. we are just two gay people trying to make it alone here with absolutely no support system. *remaking because the first post died

who we are: im j (or jet), im 24 year old trans guy whose had this account since 2014. i married my partner in 2018, we even met on tumblr when we were younger, we've been together for years. my partner is disabled (diagnosed with autism and seizure disorder and others)

what we need: basic needs, help with vet care, dental emergency assistance and general support. our cat had an emergency surgery two years ago that means he needs to be on a prescription diet (hills urinary food) for his entire life. the vet suddenly said we need to bring him in again to get his prescription renewed and we cant order any more food for him until then, which he will not survive without, and he is not allowed to eat any alternative food without risking his life. we have less than half of a 8 lb bag of it which will not last him through the next month. with the vet, food, and ubers to get to the vet and to the only place they sell the food = 200

to try to summarize our situation, we were kicked out by family and made officially homeless for the first time last year. this is right after we moved across states (wa to az) to support my partners family upon their request, only to be subjected to abuse and kicked out directly due to homophobia in an unfamiliar state after a few months. this left both of us and all of our animals entirely homeless. we luckily have an apartment now but our situation isnt stable. we lost all of our belongings at this time, everything we had built, and have not been able to replace them as we have very fixed income. my partner is especially affected by this situation, as it was traumatizing, and they have just had to power through trauma after trauma because of poverty, more than i can say.

i also have severe and painful dental problems that are not covered by medicaid in az and i have no way to afford. this includes wisdom teeth, root canals, and many cavities that will turn into that crazy expensive treatment if i don't fix it. some may remember my post about this (+this) showing the work i need. i cant keep ignoring it, because they are worried about two of the cavities becoming root canals, and i want to prevent another infection, but thats at least 250 each i also lost a cap and need to replace it to save the tooth, but that's at least 600.

we are still not going to be able to afford rent in future months because our EBT was delayed last month and i had to spend money we don't have, and without student loan forgiveness, my partner will not have loans anymore so we are in serious jeopardy even affording rent, let alone bills. our pets (2 cats 1 small dog) also desperately need vaccinations, which is dangerous to keep going this overdue without with their health problems. our dog has also been limping for the past week and he needs to be seen when that is ever possible, at least 65 plus ubers.

any donations would go first to the vet appointment and cat food, then the other needs in order of priority. will keep updating this, i know its a lot and i really don't expect anything as i know it's well over 1000 for it all, i am begging for help with any of this.

we are both students, we are trying to work towards stability, while being stuck here. i do everything i can to bring in money to support us on my own. we make 200 less than rent is monthly. i am in school to become a caseworker so i am aware of a lot of resources in my area, and have applied for everything, but we can not do this alone which is why i have to ask for help. i am so sorry for having to do this but i appreciate any support that i do have because of this website. you guys literally save my life. helping out other poor people and getting helped out on here has been the most compassion ive ever been a part of. dollars, even pennies, worth of donations has kept my cat safe, has affected me in real ways. it actually matters to us, no matter the amount.

LoZ - Yiga!Link is a Riot

I gotta say that the concept of Yiga!Link is effing hilarious. Especially if it's Zelink.

Because, think about it.

In this situation, Ganon has literally everything lined up perfectly. Link, his eons-long, multi-life arch-nemesis is essentially his minion & he likely doesn't even know it.

Kid's probably deep into the sauce too, man.

Then, either along comes this pretty little princess & he's like, "yeah, sorry bro, but I'm gettin' me some of that." Maybe he was kidnapped as a baby & Link & Zelda met previously as kids? Maybe she did something for him that he'd never forgotten, then when they remeet, she does something for him that seals a huge crush on her, & thus can't bring himself to kill her? I dunno, there's a lot of ways this could go. OR, he learns personally that he's the Chosen Hero, the very person he's supposed to despise & kill. Meaning that if the other members learn about it, they'll likely kill him. His whole life comes crashing down around him. The first blow to the cult's programming.

Like, it'd just be such a power move on destiny's part.

Like, as dangerous as Ganon obviously is, he simply does not win for very long. He always looses eventually.

And this would just cement that fact. Like, he had his effing arch-nemesis in the palm of his fucking hand & didn't even know it & he'll still fucking lose.

I dunno about you, but I'd be pretty damn demoralized after that.

I might just need the next 10,000 years dead before my next reincarnation to mentally recover.

At the same time, it does make me wonder. Why do non-Sheikah Yiga stick with them? Like, we know the reason why the Yiga was originally formed. A Hylian King from 10,000 years ago forced the Sheikah to decommission their technology, fearing it'd bring about Hyrule's demise. (Which, despite how unfair it was, he was... actually right. Makes me wonder if he actually learned that the Sheikah Tech could be taken over. Maybe he'd been an accomplished mage & had managed to use his magic to take control of the machines, then realizing that he likely wouldn't be around for the next Calamity, he ordered the Sheikah to find a way to prevent the machines from being possessed by magic. But no matter what they did, they couldn't manage to figure it out, or maybe they did for a while, but the king kept testing them to make sure it was fixed. However, much like hacking in real life, there will always be new ways to exploit the system, thus the king was left with no choice but to decommission them.)

But, anyway, what exactly do they tell their members to get them to want to stay? Hell, why were they even still a thing in BotW? Why hadn't they made their move? There were no more guards, or soldiers, only a few trained Sheikah, all of which were either too old to keep fighting or were swiftly getting there, & there'd been no royal family besides Zelda, who was keeping Calamity Ganon sealed away.

Why didn't they take over the rest of Hyrule, asserting their dominance & killing all the loyalists so that when the Hero returned, he'd be an outlaw, thus making his journey harder? (It certainly wouldn't have been the first time something like that would've happened in the series.) In fact, why reveal themselves to him when they meet? Just wait till his back is turned, then Eightfold Blade him in the back! Or have a Yiga replace the Sheikah & Hylian innkeepers/Stable Managers, then when Link rents a bed for the night, give him a poisoned complementary meal! Then, when he collapses, just execute him!

It's that easy! Or it should be, because they're effing ninja!

I mean, they were perfectly fine with killing Dorian's wife, who Dorian had been a member of the Yiga before, thus they've no issue with the act of killing.

Which, btw, why didn't they instead kidnap her, maybe even his daughters too, & use them as blackmail to keep him under their thumb?

As a queer person living in conservative, rural America, and as a Star Wars fan who posts about the Jedi Order, my thoughts are frequently turned to the concept of family, and what it means in different cultures. I’ve written a longish (1k words) post about this lmao, so I will put it beneath the cut, but it unpacks a lot of assumptions that are frequently made in discussion of the Jedi.

The ideology of the family where I live is closely related to patriarchy, individualism, and property rights. The narrative of the ideal family life is this: a man falls in love with a woman and courts her until she agrees to marriage. When they marry, they become one person, or rather the man acquires a helpmeet, and the woman legally loses her personhood, becoming Mr and Mrs X. She is now a larger part of the man’s personhood, and any children they have are also inside that umbrella. They are his property, not individuals in themselves. This is why conservatives resent public school and free access to information, as they are interfering with his right to maintain his property the way he wants them. Once the children are grown, the cycle continues, the son finding a wife, etc. That is a certain kind of ideal of society. The idea of sending a child to the church to be raised, is kind of like sending a valuable, heirloom cup to be used by the community, it’s hypothetically a meritorious sacrifice to god, but the cup still really belongs to the family. It belongs at home. If the child grows up to join the church, it’s something that happens later, during the transition from being property to being an individual.

This is not a universal or necessary mode of life.

In a different culture, where a child is born and is understood already to be a member of the wider community that is being raised by their parents, the idea of allowing an institution to adopt and take over raising the child is not a violation of some man’s property rights. In a culture where there is a temple that is an honorable place, where being a monk is a livelihood that is respected and important, something that parents would wish for their child to experience, it is more of a privilege to get your child into that place where they can become an important figure in the community. The parents would miss the child, that is universal, but there would also be a sense of relief for them, to know that they’ve gotten access to a stable future that they can be proud of, especially if they were in a situation where they couldn’t guarantee that child an equally stable and important future. With the force-gifted Jedi this is even more stark; their powers should be trained and directed for their own good too. Growing up communally at a temple is a different kind of family, where there is a sense of brother and sisterhood, with teachers and elders making up a dense web of social relationships. It is a different life, but not a worse one.

The conservative American ideology is something that I have felt my entire life to be very closed and full of the potential for abuse behind closed doors. A child is not a person and is not treated like one, and a wife is not a person either. The only individuals are the men who own these families. It’s a system that I yearn for relief and escape from, and so of course I am drawn to the Jedi, an imaginary culture that is based on real values held by real cultures outside of my own. I know there are places in the world where sending a child to the temple is an honorable and good thing. I know that the Jedi think of each other as family, it’s well attested in canon and legends content. It’s not abusive or wrong for those children to be raised in that communal culture, just because it’s different from the norms of individualistic, patriarchal values. Just because it’s different, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Just like being a queer person, who doesn’t fit into the system of romantic pairing and nuclear families, being different doesn’t mean being wrong.

People raised with the conservative ideology think the absence of romantic love is inherently abusive, but if you were raised to prioritize other things, would you miss it as much as if you were raised to chase it? Is it not a worthy effort to dedicate your life to serving other people? It may be difficult, but it’s not a life without love. Jedi have romantic feelings, they’re not forbidden, but they are deprioritzed. It’s not the ultimate goal of life, but rather more of a distraction from a very noble duty. Many, many people in the world choose that path. The Jedi aren’t jailers, we have examples of people leaving when they couldn’t walk that path, but most stay, because they have an important role to play in the wider galaxy and a great use of their potential. Anakin wanted to stay so that he could have the status and power of a ranking member of the Jedi Order, but he also wanted to have private property, possessing other people and controlling their destiny. You can’t have both. I think the story of the prequels and the path of the Jedi are both fascinating because they push against the cultural norm toward romance and patriarchal individualism. It’s just nice to have something that says you can find home with friends and mentors, and meaning with duty and service. It’s important to me on a very personal level.

Magic; where it's found, how it's used, and ways it can be amplified

Magic is a form of energy. Everyone and (nearly) everything has magic in some capacity.

Minerals, plants, animals, people—almost all of them have at least a bit of magic. Magically inert materials exist, but they are rare.

The majority of people have low levels of magic, and thus it does not manifest in any noticeable way for them. Some people naturally have more than others, and this can manifest as an outward expression and control over magic, like Minare's light magic or Vaitus's life-drain. Magic tends to manifest differently for each person. It's an energy that can be used, but in the same way each person's brain works slightly differently, one's connection to magic differs from person to person.

Some individuals have magic, but don't notice that they use it (For example; there's a farmer that lives and works outside the capital city that has the ability of time dilation, but it only ever activates when she's In The Zone while caring for her crops. If she finishes her work faster than any other farmer in the area, well, her mom always said she was a quick worker. She doesn't think there's anything strange about how much she's able to get done when she focuses).

Most people who have magical abilities develop them sometime between 13 to 20 years old (amount of magic grows as the person grows), but it's possible to develop them earlier or later. Early magical development generally indicates a greater than average amount of magic.

There are old wives-tales that claim that eating a more magic-dense diet during pregnancy will give the child a greater chance of developing a magical ability, but this is unproven. Nonetheless, it's tradition to drink broth made from common magical herbs during pregnancy (this broth also functions as an anti-nausea medicine to treat morning-sickness).

In very rare cases, a magical ability can spontaneously develop as a response to trauma; it's generally understood as a "hysterical strength" phenomenon, where the body develops an ability to counter a life-threatening scenario. However, these abilities are usually "half-formed" as it were; because they are forced out in an unnatural scenario, the magic tends to be... disorganized. It can be unwieldy for the user, and will likely develop further with time and use.

Amplifiers can be used to strengthen an individual's magic.

The most famous example of an amplifier is the crown of the ruler of the kingdom. The crown is the most powerful amplifier known to exist. Historically, it was used by the original royal family to strengthen their light magic in order to protect the kingdom from monsters. Its method of creation has been lost to time, but it's proven to be capable of amplifying the current ruler of the kingdom's magic over a hundredfold. By some mysterious means, the crown is only capable of amplifying the magic of whoever is recognized as the ruler of the kingdom, and it adapts to fit the current ruler.

Depending on their method of creation, common amplifiers vary in how much or how little they strengthen an individual's magic, but none come close to the raw power of the crown.

An amplifier can be made out of almost anything, but they are generally made using tough materials that won't lose integrity too quickly. It's easier to make an amplifier with wood/paper/twine, but it won't last nearly as long as one made with metal or gemstones. Metal and gemstones last a lot longer, but they're much more difficult to create, and can be a bit unstable/lose their amplifying abilities suddenly.

The crown is remarkable because it is a functionally perfect amplifier; it is made of incorruptible materials, it is outstandingly powerful, and, most importantly, it is incredibly stable. No other amplifier has ever come close to lasting as long as the crown has.

There is an entire subset of magical scholars that study the theory around the crown's creation and how it functions. Amplifiers typically only work for the person who created it/whoever it's been attuned to (since magic tends to be very unique to the individual), so an amplifier that's theoretically capable of magnifying the magic of anyone who wears it is fascinating.

Exceptionally well made amplifiers occasionally become family heirlooms, but they don't tend to work very well for anyone using it aside from the one who created it. If a family has similar magic throughout the generations, an heirloom amplifier can be a bit more functional.

Potions are created by harnessing the inherent magic of certain materials.

Potions rely on the natural magic of the materials used in the brewing process. Certain creatures and plants are more magically dense than others; when used in brewing, their effects are more potent than materials with lower magical density.

Brewers, those who make potions professionally, carefully balance the types of magic used in their recipes in order to make a potion with the desired effect. Much of potion-making is carefully balancing multiple types of magic in order to achieve the intended outcome.

Potion-making is an exact science, and takes many years of study to master. Brewers must maintain a careful balance of the intensity of the magical effect, how long the effect lasts, minimizing any drawbacks to the consumer*, and maximizing the shelf-life of the potion.

Ingredients used in potion-making often times must be harvested carefully to ensure maximum potency. Master brewers tend to gather their ingredients themselves (or have a well trained apprentice do it) to ensure quality, but most causal brewers who run small potion shops tend to put up requests for certain ingredients with a reward for any adventurer who might find them.

*nausea is a common side-effect of poorly brewed potions, but catastrophic failures can induce far more deadly side effects

And Courtney maybe realizing romance is wonderful, you know what is better? Being herself and having friends/mentors that actually care about her,

I just get upset sometimes that we- some- or even me sometimes make Courtney suffer a lot for the plot or so called the one! For the name of romance but the truth is we forget her agency, her Courtney self from TDI to ALL-Stars, and I think is troubling for a little girl growing up watching that since I watched as a child.

Courtney deserves better with along the other characters.

I love Courtney but I really wished she in canon or lesbian fandom Courtney been treated more better not so seen like villain without arc of growth or just disrespect so often for angst instead we shove Duncan, Gwen, Heather, Scott, and whoever to 'save her' or 'fix her and show who to care/love in general'. I like to think we or Courtney is old enough to just realize I don't need to be pity and saved. I need to grow, heal on my own as well as get comforted by someone who cares and loves me doesn't need to marry me somehow end of the day.

Courtney has a lot of range as a character but hitting Duncan and yelling like him is a no go because it not safe type of love or system to treat people, yet the writers did it as be joke. The joke which is a problem more in society standards of trauma bonding relationships or two teenagers clearly love each other but need more mental health and their parents to put more nurture into them. It shouldn't be funny but sadly this kids' cartoon were farts, throwing up, hitting, and other things are supposed to be silly haha hehe no brain thoughts but come on? Really making Courtney the villain and it states in the Duncan wiki that he is on the creators' favorites like Duncan get arc of grow and oh it's okay he can be loved but nor the crazy ex trope. I think and believe both Duncan and Courtney didn't deserve that as a couple as well as their own characters.

Heck Duncan even loved Courtney being like that with him until they chose to rewrite their characters once more just for the Duncan and Gwen situation to happen which didn't need to happen in my opinion. Because it could be better for plot if Alejandro and Tyler be rivals somehow like Tyler struggling warn the others aa well as help Heather with Alejandro trying use the girls in the plane. Then Alejandro someone blaming all on Tyler as Heather lost her other ally and somewhat male healthy friendship a long the way.

Then Courtney vs. Heather vs. Alejandro for the 3rd season, get my vision? Heather sure wants Alejandro but puts it side with Courtney who was used by Alejandro then they work together to defend him against winning!

Bam it's Heather vs. Courtney but Courtney feels hollow not really in the game in it anymore her relationship with Duncan is more stable or they couldn't save it depends on the fan I guess, her growing friendship with Gwen is rocky since she left and took Gwen out the game, and now she might win! She has that AH moment maybe money not that worth it if the game made her power hungry.

Anyway, that's my code of choice saying Courtney I love you and sorry for being a shitty write on your character at times, and all girls of total drama deserve why better that being connected to a man/boy to make them better.

My hottest Camelot revival take is actually that when it comes to magic in the show I'm running on death of the author rules. Like I actually don't think Aaron Sorkin should have gone around saying magic is 1000% axed gone completely from the show and it's world, because when you actually watch the show I feel like it exists more ambiguously, and it's a belief that multiple characters hold to varying degrees. And I think the clashing of beliefs is interesting actually especially because how it slots into changes in the show. This is why I do not hate these changes and like idk maybeee you should HEAR ME OUTTTT

How going in with this sexy, sexy reading benefits me and might even benefit YOU. TODAY. RIGHT NOW:

-Any mean spirited jokes about the magic system feel a lot more like character moments. Important to note that Guinevere is the character who tends to go hardest on these types of comments, whereas Lancelot is completely devoid of them.

-Genny being the most cynical is a fun lil nod to her now cut line from Simple Joys of Maidenhood where she so easily ditches St. Genevieve when she doesn't feel like her prayers are being answered.

-Even more interesting is how Arthur seems to be somewhere in the middle on this. He thinks legends abt him slaying dragons, and this idea that Lancelot revived him from the dead is ridiculous because these are his lived experiences he knows that's not what happened. But he believes Merlin whom he holds in high regards could see the future. And he is constantly debating on what made the sword come out of the stone when he pulled on it. It's like he needs a reason. What can he say about him and his reign if it was completely random?

-Am I being cheesy if I say I think the conclusion he comes to at the end issss kind of sweet and feels like ohhh the magic??? Of humanity??? Yeah probably.

-Also as much as Arthur and Genny insist that Lancelot did zero resurrecting can we trust them??? It's played off as a joke but Pelly's got a point he WAS UNCONSCIOUS! HOW COULD HE 100% KNOW??? Perhapssss the truthhh is whatever the individual believes now!!! 🤔🤔🤔 perhapssss it's MYTHOLOGY BEING FORMED IN REALLL TIMEEE BABYYYY. I Like to think that when Barbatos and Morax got better acquainted they'd get into long and winding arguments (unironically or not) ranging from the pettiest things to debating and discussing great philosophical questions

even funnier if you consider the vastness of their power: there are several instances of terraformation due to conflict within the gods/death of gods/etc. (they have direct impacts on the environment, intentional or otherwise) it would not be surprising if an altering of their surroundings occurred because an argument got too heated

Gods in genshin are so funny theres this sort of humanistic quality to them but there's still an obvious even if slight (at the very least) detachment from human society - they would definitely chop off the head of a mountain to prove a point. Cannot wait to see them interacting live ... so excited for lantern rite

Their voicelines give "old friends/old married couple who Bicker a lot and act sick of each other #Some Times" and im sure they have many disagreements (they're character foils if you think about it) but they obviously respect each other and their opinions immensely . They're very much Opposite but they're also some of the most similar characters we know of

Their ideals represent a system for a stable society when combined. Venti is someone who represents freedom, the right to the people's self determination, while Zhongli is the god of contracts, whose ideal is order. At their most radical (freedom to an extremity = chaos, order at its extremity is instead far too imposing) both can lead to an undesired or even the opposite outcome: if nothing was ever enforced and people were to do just as they pleased, there exists no system for control and protection over the natural rights of anybody. On the other hand, an overarching presence of authority and control might lead to feelings of anxiety and animosity within the population, and if whoever is leading is left unchecked as well, may lead to the infringement of natural rights (contracts are not always inherently correct or just, nor are they always enforced properly)...if the slightest feeling that an authority is too controlling, it will lead to a disruption of order (rebellion) - and if a way to amend contracts or judge them does not exist, then the society that is lacking such a method is objectively unjust.

So obviously there would have to be some sort of balance between the two to keep things Fair and the people Happy and the state of all things, for the most part, stable. Stability is security. Both of them do understand the importance of the other and know things are not so black and white. They just went about it in different ways. Venti established his ideals regarding freedom in the hearts and the culture of Mond - while he does not enforce anything directly, he made sure to make them understand that not only are they entitled to freedom, but others are as well, and that they should go about it in a righteous manner. And if there is a situation in which these freedoms are being attacked, he does interfere. He comes to the aid of his people when the situation requires it

Rex Lapis passed down his ideals onto his people as well but had a more direct, overt presence in his nation than Venti did. He (and Guizhong) laid down the foundations for Liyuean society, creates systems of regulation (e.g., mora, legal system - like with what we see with yanfei) And while he does prioritise contracts, zhongli understands the importance of freedom (self determination) and justice. Like with xiao !! Not only did he liberate him (I think that comes with having to defeat his previous master) but he bestowed upon him a name, and allowed xiao, who wanted to pay back his gratitude to Rex Lapis in the form of service, to join him on his cause. Even before Zhongli's resignation as Liyue's archon he still recognised xiao's freedom to determine how he would live his life from that point moving forward. Xiao just acts out of obligation because it's first nature for him (in reference to the chasm interlude quest). That and his decision to depart and become a member of normal human society... at some point he realised that these people could probably function fine on their own. Venti just realised that much earlier. Zhongli did the same as soon as he felt that everything would be secure .. from what we know of Liyue during the archon war, Zhongli and his people were much more involved in direct conflict with other nations than Mond was (so it makes sense why it'd take longer)

The both of them are very much complementary forces. I could go on about this for pages upon pages but those are just my thoughts on this Particular evening. Who knows maybe we'll get something like that with fontaine and natlan / natlan and snezhnaya (opposites!!) I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not exactly expecting it but It is something the writers seem like they'd do

My history teacher recently did a lecture about the enlightenment + enlightenment thinkers/theory and we just finished renaissance (so I've been interacting with a lot regarding political structures/social ideas) so it got me thinking about geopolitical systems in genshin even more it really is so fascinating . The new black panther movie presents a really interesting take on these sorts of topics as well while incorporating several other purposes/themes, and it does a splendid job in my opinion I would recommend it. It's very well thought out. but ya . errgghrhr I hope this was interesting if you made it to the end. venti and zhongli are so great and a lot of their character is still yet to be explored so !!!!! amazing. I apologise in advance for the Person I will become once venti's 2nd story quest comes out (and/or further story arcs regarding their characters) you will never hear me shut up . sorry for how this is formatted and written. Yizuki_Khonsu here! You said that I could message you about the Two-Ghost Motel (One of my favorite fics from you). I've read everything you've posted on tumblr too. My favorites have to be Something to Feel and Ghost!Robin Haunts Jason. Anyway, you offered to give me the deets about your sequel, so hit me!

The comment in question:

My first thought about Jason is one of the reasons he's almost a zombie when he first revives is because the motel took so much from him. He doesn't have enough memories to be present since the entity was eating them. And the reason the Pit brings them back is because the motel was made of that same in-between material Lazarus Water . Question: Does Jason remember what happened in the Motel? Does he remember Danny? Obviously Danny remembers him, but I don't know if he will remember Danny. Lots of angst potential there. I love all iterations of Danny and Jason interactions, platonic or otherwise, and you perfectly capture the sibling vibe with both of them. Also can't wait to see Vlad get punished for luring Ghosts to their End by directing them to the Motel. I bet he has a lot harder time getting lesser ghosts to work for/with him once the deal he made got out. Do Ghosts have a court system? Cause I want to see Vlad get arrested and put on Ghost trial.

I have no promise of a sequel, but I've definitely had sequel thoughts for Two Ghost Motel. So, if the time arises when I can finally revisit this universe, well, here's an idea of what you will see.

Does Jason remember? Not really. It'll be like a half-remembered dream. He remembers there being something when he was dead. And... a friend? But not the details.

He'll also sometimes feel like he should be able to do impossible things. Like fly or go through walls. But he's just a baseline human. And the lazarus pits don't give powers like that. So he shoves those thoughts to the side. And if he sometimes bangs into a wall when he expects to pass through it or shoots his grapple hook off a moment later than he should have? Well. It hasn't killed him yet.

And the reason the Pit brings them back is because the motel was made of that same in-between material

You got this spot on.

Vlad is a part I haven't fully planned out yet. (And one of the things I'll have to figure out before I go forward with a sequel.)

Anyway, I'm gonna spit ball on him for a sec. Ending a ghost is the worst thing you can do in Ghost culture (headcanon). So Vlad intentionally pushing other ghosts to a being that will End them? And then roping in innocent third parties into his scheme? (By spreading rumors that it's a good place to rest.) Oh, no one is happy.

He'll become a pariah (not The Pariah) among ghost kind. Instant attack on sight. Or, for those who aren't strong enough to attack, he'll be given the ghost equivalent of a Regency England Cut. Which is when you just refuse to acknowledge someone's presence. If they say hi to you, you turn aside and don't acknowledge them. If they come near you, you walk away. Just, total ostracization.

The only people he can get to work for him are the ones he can blackmail or threaten. And they all plan to betray him the first chance they get.

There's also some things I want to explore with the in-between creatures. The motel said that Danny and Vlad are both in-between beings like it is (was). And I want to explore that more. Danny is the only in-between creature to be stable. He was flooded with pure ectoplasm when the portal was opened. Vlad and the motel, however, did not experience that.

Part of their instability, just like the pit madness, is because they are creatures of the in-between. Think of Danny as balanced perfectly on the knife's edge. Vlad and the motel aren't. Vlad is more alive than Danny and the motel more dead. And that is part of why there's issues with them. The motel needs more ectoplasm but cannot make it itself. And the stuff from the Realms directly is too pure and is as poisonous to it as Lazarus Water is to ghosts. So it steals it from ghosts and converts it into something that isn't quite of Earth and isn't quite of the realms (lazarus water) and uses that.

Vlad uses the real stuff, but isn't as good at metabolizing it as Danny or a full ghost. So the ectoplasm is affecting him as much as he's affecting it. And ectoplasm does strange things when it comes in contact with living tissue.

So maybe instead of jail and destruction for Vlad, I'll go the route of "intensive medical care to correct a decades-long problem he's left untreated until it nearly destroyed him."

But that's also a much harder (and longer) plot line, so.... Who knows. Maybe I'll take the easy way out and develop a Ghostly Court. We've already got Ghost Jail and a Prison Warden!

Kairos: (Ancient Greek: καιρός) is an ancient Greek word meaning 'the right, critical, or opportune moment'.

Kronos: Kronos may be derived from ancient Greek “kroúō/κρούω” meaning “to strike” or “to smite”. Besides, Kronos could mean “time”

Anakin´s so called "attachment" problem would not have become an issue if he had been raised with his family, becoming a Jedi meant for Anakin abandoning his mother in a state of slavery, not knowing what was happening to her and then dreaming of her being tortured until she died in his arms. This trauma made him fearful of losing his loved ones to an extreme degree, which later lead to his extreme fear of losing Padme.

Before becoming a Jedi he was a sweet/sneaky and resourceful kid, who worried about others, made everything he could to help, not expecting a reward, he had great dreams and initiatives to make life better for his friends and family on Tatooine but becoming a Jedi meant he had to give up all of it in favor of following the Council and the Senate dictates which wasnt bad on principle but it often messed with his mental stability, especially when it came to the slavery issue when he had to help the outerim slavers like Jabba or ignore the Senate links to that system

For Anakin in particular the Jedi life was inherently traumatic, not so much for the content of their teachings, at least not all of them but because he had to give up parts of himself that made him emotionally stable, happy and helped develop his personality as a leader focused in helping to make the galaxy a better place, all qualities he still developed in the clone wars but not to their full potential and sadly later were used for the Dark side as Vader.

On the Jedi temple thinking about his mother made him attached, on Tatooine his mother was an example to follow and an upstanding woman making the best of what they could given the circunstances.

On the Jedi temple Anakin was teased over his past as a slave and expected to just forget about it, on Tatooine it was a harsh reality but the company of the other slaves gave him estrenght to overcome those difficulties and inspired him to try to free all of them.

This is why I personally think that of all of Anakin´s prohecies,the one who was meant to bring the better end for him personally and for the galaxy, was the first one, because it would have lead to him growing up in an envoirment in which he didn´t need to feel afraid of losing loved ones, he would have naturally grow to know it could and did happen but it would not have been a source of trauma for him and sooner or later, his initiatives to free his fellow slaves, would have clashed with Palpatine´s Empire but this time he would not have the emotional bond to him that keep him from truly doing all he could to stop him.

Palpatine´s empire would have raised up anyway, sometimes fans blame Anakin for it and the jedi massacre but they forget the fact the Republic end was brought by the Senate own inner corruption helped along by Palpatine and that without Anakin there to serve as a distraction to the Emperor, he would just have made Dooku his second in command, never would have made himself vulnerable to the Jedi Council trying to turn Anakin and just would have sent the Clone Army to the Jedi Temple once it was secure to do so with the support of the Senate.

The Empire would have raised up anyway but I believe it would have lasted less time, especially with an Anakin focused on stopping it, a lot of Jedi left alive after the fall of the Temple and many people who followed the separatists and part of the clone army feeling betrayed for being used as pawns in the clone wars and being changed from one bad goverment to another.

So Anakin´s complying with his first prophecy would have brought a Kairos time to the galaxy to end the empire sooner while what happened in the actual saga was Kronos. That´s my take.

🥭: How important to my muse is their hometown, or where they’re from? Are they proud of it, or considered a hometown hero? Did they move away, or do they wish to?

Reed doesn’t really have much of an attachment to his hometown. He was disowned by his family at 18 & left to join the army, & he hasn’t been back since. Postwar, I think he’d be curious about what happened there and may eventually head back- but that’d take place after fo4 and I just haven’t gotten to that point yet. Fortunately for him, Albany’s actually closer to Boston than Far Harbor, so it’d be a pretty feasible trip for him.

🍏: How stable is my muse’s physical health? Do they go for regular or semi-regular checkups by a physician? Do they have any diagnosed illnesses and/or take any medication? How often do they get sick?

He lowkey tries to die immediately out of the vault and after going in the Glowing Sea the first time- I think cryo would do a number on immune systems, plus there’s residual radiation basically everywhere and he’s not used to that. It’s all just his immune system freaking out though, there’s not any sort of actual virus or bacteria causing it- he has a lower than average body temperature post-cryo and that’s made him pretty resistant to actual diseases. On top of that, a few months later he ends up with rad poisoning from a defective power armor seal and that takes a few months for him to actually recover - he starts ghoulifying after that, but it’s a very slow ordeal & it isn’t helped by the fact that he denies that it’s happening. After that starts though, he’s generally pretty healthy and very rarely gets sick. As far as medications go- he takes mentats regularly for his undiagnosed ADHD, he smokes very frequently, & he goes through way too much RadAway in some sort of attempt to prevent further ghoulification.

🍋: What kind of diet does my muse have? Do they eat regularly, or the standard 2-3 meals a day? Do they have to be reminded to eat, or are they likely to remind others? Do they cook, or have others cook for them? Do they eat healthily, or not so much?

Reed’s generally terrible about remembering to eat when he’s left to his own devices & he’s pretty reliant on Margot & companions/friends for reminders. On average and when it’s just him and Margot, I’d say he probably eats about twice a day and it’s generally very plain and boring(like some sort of meat, some sort of grain, maybe a vegetable or fruit) because there’s a very good chance he’s sharing food with Margot. He typically eats more frequently and generally has more variety/isn’t basically living off depression meals while with companions. Overall he does usually eat pretty healthy too, he doesn’t really like sweets much & won’t eat prewar/packaged foods so that cuts out a lot of unhealthy options.

Why did Jane Austen make Mary Crawford so Right?

Jane Austen has a funny habit of putting very quotable or correct ideas into the mouths of villains, or at least characters that we are not supposed to admire. Like Caroline Bingley’s praise of reading or Isabella Thorpe’s commentary on friendship. But it is readily apparent in those cases that the characters actually mean something quite different (Caroline pretends to love reading to attract Darcy, Isabella is using emotional blackmail). What is harder to understand is Mary Crawford. I do believe we are supposed to view her character negatively, but Mary’s commentary on the church is very poignant, even today, and I think in many ways, Jane Austen herself agreed.

Mary’s first commentary on the church is in the chapel at Southerton, where she basically says, (I paraphrase) “You can’t force piety on people. Make them sit in a chapel and if they are not there with their heart, they will think of something else. Also, those in power neglect church while demanding piety of those lower than them.” She is right, and Edmund knows she is right (he says, “but I have not yet left Oxford long enough to forget what chapel prayers are.“ and I can’t really see the rich, hung-over students at Oxford paying a lot of attention in chapel). And yet, Edmund is “too angry for speech” when Mary makes this critique.

(As an aside, having grown up in the church, I have seen this a lot even today. There are many people who attend as often as they can, and yet fail completely to live out Christian values. They seem to believe that quantity alone can replace quality and that attendance is equal to living out moral principles.)

Mary is proved correct throughout the novel. Sir Thomas later reflects that his daughters knew their religion theoretically but did not take its lessons to heart. Henry admits that while he sits in church he thinks about other things (like how to read the liturgy properly) and Edmund later reflects that London preachers who are listened to as great performers don’t actually do much to change minds and hearts because they don’t actually interact with the people they preach to or model good behaviour. Going to chapel does not a religious person make.

Another commentary from Mary, which comes up several times, is that those who go into the profession of the church do it not because they are called but because of the stable income of a living. Edmund insists that he chose the church himself, and we know from narration that he does mean to do his job well, but I do think Mary’s opinion more captures the state of the profession:

“Oh! no doubt he [a clergyman] is very sincere in preferring an income ready made, to the trouble of working for one; and has the best intentions of doing nothing all the rest of his days but eat, drink, and grow fat. It is indolence, Mr. Bertram, indeed. Indolence and love of ease; a want of all laudable ambition, of taste for good company, or of inclination to take the trouble of being agreeable, which make men clergymen. A clergyman has nothing to do but be slovenly and selfish—read the newspaper, watch the weather, and quarrel with his wife. His curate does all the work, and the business of his own life is to dine.”

Mary and Henry represent more of a London way of thinking, but given Mr. Elton and Mr. Collins and the fact that the British government would soon reform the livings system, I tend to think their opinion here is generally correct. Henry is kind of shocked that Edmund won’t just take the income and install a curate, which I take to mean that he has met a lot of clergymen in London who ride back into the country twice a year to give a sermon and let their underpaid curates do the rest.

This all leads to the question, why is Mary the one who says all this? Why do the moral characters become angry and oppose her? Why is the truth given to someone who is basically amoral? My idea is this: Mary is telling us what has caused her jaded view on the church and the jaded view of the whole of England. Edmund wants to do the right thing, to live among his parishioners and provide an example of moral living, but Mary has not seen that before. In her life, she has experienced preachers without substance and church without meaning and she’s rejected it all. Part of her attraction to Edmund is that he actually lives out his moral values. (She finds charm in, “his sincerity, his steadiness, his integrity” and as a side note, this is also what Henry finds fascinating about Fanny). The moral characters become angry, I think, because they don’t actually have a solution.

To summarize, Mary’s criticism of the church says this, “Look what you have created.”
