I have Covid for the fourth fucking time and I’m so livid about it.
I’m immunocompromised so me getting sick means I get sick for a long ass time. I’ve had three of the Covid vaccines so hopefully that helps. I was going to get my fall booster this week, but CAN’T DO THAT ANYMORE BECAUSE I’M FUCKING SICK WITH COVID!!!!
I feel like shit and I want to die. I wish it was taken more seriously where I live, but I live in a very Republican dominated farming community. So they have always believed it’s a hoax. It’s why I keep getting it. Please send me good vibes and virtual cuddles. Thank you.

Boost in Health Funds: A Fresh Horizon for the Philippines
Tumblr media
DBM Announces Significant Increase in Health Budget
In a remarkable move by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the Philippines is set to witness a substantial enhancement in its healthcare infrastructure. This development comes as the DBM allocates a whopping PHP28.58 billion under the 2024 General Appropriations Act, specifically earmarked for the Department of Health's Health Facilities Enhancement Program (DOH-HFEP). Representing a 6.6 percent increase from the previous year's PHP26.81 billion, this boost in funding is a clear indicator of the government's unwavering commitment to healthcare reform.   A Testament to Progressive Governance Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman has lauded this increased allotment as a testament to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s strong commitment to transforming the Philippines into a "Bagong Pilipinas" — a New Philippines where access to quality primary healthcare is not just a vision but a reality. The administration's dedication to enhancing the country's healthcare facilities, both in number and capability, is evident in its continuous support for the HFEP.   Prioritizing Public Health Understanding the critical dependence of many Filipinos on public hospitals and healthcare centers, the government emphasizes the necessity of equipping these facilities to meet the diverse needs of its citizens. Additionally, it underscores the importance of prioritizing resources for enhancing the capacity of these institutions, thereby ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage for all. Secretary Pangandaman remarked, "It’s important that our health facilities are prepared and equipped to cater to the needs of our kababayans (fellow countrymen)."   Comprehensive Healthcare Enhancement The allocated budget for the HFEP will facilitate the construction, upgrading, and expansion of government healthcare facilities across the nation. Additionally, it will cover the procurement of essential hospital equipment and medical transport vehicles. With a focus on Universal Health Care (UHC) sites and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAS), the program aims to prioritize those most in need. Moreover, the HFEP actively commits to upgrading essential facilities to ensure robust response measures to COVID-19 and future public health emergencies, highlighting the government's proactive approach to safeguarding public health.   Sources: THX News & Philippine News Agency.
Cebu Mayor Rama says PH Online Classes "make no difference" for Hot Summers
Tumblr media
Learners should remain in the classroom instead of sending them back to online classes in their homes for fear of increased temperatures during the summer season, Mayor Michael Rama said Tuesday. “Why would you not allow children to be in their schools? You send them back to their homes… don’t you think it is also hot in their homes?” Rama said in Cebuano. Rama’s remarks came after the Cebu City Council passed a resolution Monday requesting the School’s Division to plot a measure that would go back to blended learning modalities adopted at the height of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
Tumblr media
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama. Photo by Philippine News Agency. The mayor expressed some misgivings about going back to online classes or modular lessons would affect the learner’s performance, saying that reading and comprehension lessons can be best taught in person rather than remotely done online or through modules. Children who are unsupervised by teachers would be tempted to play online games or watch videos instead of answering their modules, Rama said. “It might end up with parents doing the assignments,”   he added, even as he stressed that teachers should not expose children to the extreme heat of the sun to avoid exhaustion and stroke. Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Nimfa Bongo said a guideline has been circulated to the campuses laying down procedures for blended learning should the heat index here would increase to a “danger” level. “So far no one applied for it. Other schools observed blended modalities such as shifting of classes, with one group reporting in the classrooms and the other group in their homes,” she said in a radio interview. Bongo said children’s health and safety should be considered in deciding which modality would be observed amid the hot season. On Monday, the city posted a 38° Celsius heat index based on data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
How will Global Warming effect the Philippines?
According to the world bank report published on the 9th of November 2022, Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR), climate change is exacting a heavy toll on Filipinos’ lives, properties, and livelihoods. If left unaddressed, it could hamper the country’s ambition of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2040. With 50 percent of its 111 million population living in urban areas, and many cities in coastal areas, the Philippines is vulnerable to sea level rise. Changes due to the variability and intensity of rainfall in the country and increased temperatures will affect food security and the safety of the population. Multiple indices rank the Philippines as one of the countries most affected by extreme climate events. The country has experienced highly destructive typhoons almost annually for the past 10 years. Annual losses from typhoons have been estimated at 1.2 percent of GDP. Climate action in the Philippines must address both extreme and slow-onset events. Adaptation and mitigation actions, some of which are already underway in the country, would reduce vulnerability and future losses if fully implemented.   Sources: THX News, World Bank & Philippine News Agency. Mask demand/production crisis
2020 was an odd year for us since a new virus came into play with our lives. Covid-19 scared a lot of people and it made them go nuts by going to stores and stocking up on supplies such as eggs, gas, clothes, toilet paper, etc. A specific item I would be talking about is a mask. This huge gadget was critical for preventing germs and avoiding getting any contact with people. Specifically I’ll be focusing on the cost production of the N95 mask during-post covid. These masks were really important to me since my family believed it was the safest mask to use but it became really expensive and less produced during this crisis. We had to stay at home for several days until we got our hands on some masks.
Tumblr media
In this graph we can see that there’s an increase in Price and Demand for masks (N95’s). It became really inelastic but consumers were so desperate for their own health. An example of this necessity was my family doing anything to get themselves some masks no matter what the price was as long as we can stop spreading the virus. The equilibrium meaning the balance in which demand equals supply will increase as well.
We can also see how the shortage of masks will impact the supply of Covid necessities (hand sanitizer, gloves, disinfectants, etc.) because in the real world consumers decrease demand when masks are in shortage causing prices to increase. Some companies could have hurt their opportunity costs/ profit. I had some ideas relating to opportunity costs. When the N95’s were in shortage, I had opportunities to go out with friends, stay at home until COVID was gone or buy some at such a significant amount of $. As a consumer I helped the economy to buy masks and dropped the chance of staying home and hanging out with friends because it's not safe for what virus we were experiencing.
Tumblr media
In this figure, we can see that the number of N95 masks will increase dramatically in 2020 by nearly 1.37 billion and that’s only because demand increased. Worldwide people were being devastated with mask production but luckily we were patient enough and today it’s still in talks but not that much like 3 years ago. This was a wack experience but really fun to remember the memories I have of people freaking out (mainly me) and luckily the supply of masks was efficient to keep us all safe.

Blinken, Wang Yi Hold Constructive Talks
Tumblr media
Diplomatic Engagement Amidst Global Tensions
In a significant diplomatic encounter, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with the People's Republic of China (PRC) Director of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Foreign Affairs Commission and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on February 16, on the margins of the Munich Security Conference. This meeting marks a pivotal moment in the complex tapestry of U.S.-China relations, reflecting both countries' commitment to open dialogue and responsible competition management.   A Candid Exchange on Critical Issues Observers described the talks between Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Wang Yi as candid and constructive, with both covering a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues. These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to maintain open lines of communication and to manage the competitive aspects of the U.S.-China relationship responsibly. The Secretary emphasized the United States' commitment to upholding its interests and values, alongside those of its allies and partners.   Focus on Peace and Stability A key highlight of the discussion was the emphasis on maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and in the South China Sea. The dialogue also ventured into the contentious issue of the PRC's support for Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, showcasing the complexity of the geopolitical landscape the two powers navigate. Moreover, the exchange included topics such as the situation in the Middle East and on the Korean Peninsula, demonstrating the broad spectrum of interests and concerns that the United States and China share.   Forward-Looking Dialogues Both parties recognized the importance of continuous communication across a range of strategic issues. They agreed on the necessity for consultations and high-level meetings in key areas in the upcoming months, signaling a mutual interest in a stable and predictable relationship.
Implications for U.S.-China Relations
The broader implications of this high-level meeting are still unfolding, yet it symbolizes a potential thaw in the relations between these two global superpowers. As the first high-level engagement since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many view the meeting as a step towards rebuilding trust and cooperation. Experts are cautiously optimistic, suggesting that this could lead to a more stable and predictable dynamic between the United States and China. Furthermore, the agreement to establish new dialogue mechanisms and the pledge to cooperate on critical issues like climate change and North Korea are seen as positive outcomes. However, some experts remain wary, pointing out that the meeting focused more on managing competition rather than fostering cooperation. The absence of major breakthroughs on pressing issues such as trade and Taiwan underscores the enduring challenges that lie ahead.   Looking to the Future While we await to see the long-term impact of this diplomatic engagement, it undoubtedly signifies a significant development in U.S.-China relations. The commitment to dialogue and the potential for collaboration on global challenges reflect a nuanced approach to navigating the complexities of international diplomacy. As both nations move forward, the world watches closely, hopeful for a future where competition is balanced with cooperation for the greater good.   Sources: THX News, Brookings, CSIS & US Department of State.#thxnews Read the full article

In the midst of Covid-19 I’ve seen a lot of posts saying it’s not much to worry about because only immune compromised people are likely to die from it.
Please practice safety measures even if you personally aren’t at high risk. Don’t dismiss it as not your responsibility just because your immune system is strong. You play a part in allowing or preventing it to spread. And stop talking about immune compromised people as sad outliers.

Yes, let's talk about Josh Gad and the fact that he single-handedly saved quarantine and 2020 as a whole
YES LET’S TALK ABOUT THAT
Right when the shutdown happened, he posted this.
Tumblr media
Right away I knew I would be looking to him. He always has been one to support everyone, he speaks out against injustices, he sends his love to individual people and families going through hardships, but of course, this time it’s very different. The globe is adapting to a new, scary way of life. When I read his first statement, I just knew I could look to him for... a grounded feeling, I guess? I remember crying in fear those first few nights, away from my family. But when I needed a laugh or smile I rewatched Josh’s movies. And then the bedtime readings began. Just the fact he was doing them for us, knowing how scared we were (he was too), just 10 minutes of focused reading was so much help. I’ll bet it was even more cathartic and fun for confused kids who didn’t know why they couldn’t leave their houses or see their friends at school. Even more exciting to be talked to by the voice of their favorite snowman. But for the adults - reverting back to a childlike state, not having to do anything, nostalgic for a comforting figure reading sweet, short stories, and forgetting to look too far ahead, it was just what I needed. The fact that the readings were live made it feel so much realer, much more intimate than watching tv. He’s just a person trapped in his house like the rest of us. He really cares about everyone. I looked forward to them every night.
Tumblr media
What came next were the At Home With Olaf shorts. I don’t think I even saw them all — but they were very sweet and calming! These were mainly a product of Hyrum Osmand. But they wouldn’t have been brought to life without Josh. I bet kids really loved seeing the shorts come out routinely. Kudos to Hyrum, Jen Lee, and the team for working hard on those at home.
Tumblr media
Also - the song that Josh recorded as Olaf “I Am With You” by Bobby & Kristen got me choked up and it is 100% worth mentioning.
youtube
Followed by 2 appearances on abc’s Disney Family (at home) Singalong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then came Reunited Apart. REUNITED APART. Probably the most ingenious and heartwarming thing anyone could have ever brought about during this lockdown nightmare. Six iconic films. Six fundraisers. Over $200,000 raised for charities.
Tumblr media
The Goonies - $31,847 to The Center for Disaster Philanthropy
Back to The Future - $23,575 to Project HOPE
Splash - $21,765 to The DigDeep Right to Water Project
Lord of The Rings - $163,417 to No Kid Hungry (plus a 1.3 MILLION donation from Cheerios!)
Ghostbusters - $17,434 to Equal Justice Initiative
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off - $12,793 to Children of Restaurant Employees
That’s INCREDIBLE. Not only has it done so much for these causes, but also, brought these 1980s classic casts and crew members together in a way that, back then, they never would have thought possible! Some of these guys admitted that they hadn’t even seen each other since the 80s. It was pure fun and an absolute joy to watch them reminisce. Josh geeking out with us as fans, and learning more about the ins and outs of these films we know and love so well... it’s the best thing that ever could have come out of this quarantine.
I also am really glad about how Josh has been using his platform to speak out against systematic racism and anti-blackness, especially these past few months. He’s been educating himself, making donations, attending protests, advocating for systematic change, supporting/having conversations with Black creators and artists. An excellent example of what non-black people should be doing during this time.

If you don’t follow him on Twitter already, I highly recommend it. He is very up to date on current events and very disgusted with our current lack of leadership, and he lets it be known. But he is balancing the anger and the sadness with laughter and virtual hugs, comforting those that he can, and raising awareness to those who still need convincing.

Here are some other honorable mentions since quarantine started:
Letting us know that it’s okay to cry ❤️
Sharing a secret video of him twerking to “maniac” as Mulch Diggums just because... we really needed it
Supporting small businesses
Singing When I’m Older with his daughter, Ava
Leaving an Olaf message to grieving children who lost family members to covid-19
Sharing jokes from his unreleased Muppets script that was scrapped from Disney+
PERFORMING BAPTIZE ME WITH NIKKI M. JAMES to raise money for covid-19 relief efforts
Teasing us with updates on the BatB prequel series
UMMM CENTRAL PARK?
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel’s show dressed as a giant strawberry
His insane tribute to John Hughes
This important conversation with Asmeret Ghebremichael
and much more...
I love Josh. I really love him. I can’t get over how genuinely wonderful he is. I’m so thankful to have him to draw joy, knowledge, and inspiration from, especially right now. He has been such a rock during all of this. (To some, an angry rock that tumbles down the hill right at you, but hey, people are in need some motivation too.) What a guy. ❤️

Hey y’all, I’m panicking that we (Americans) are all gonna die from coronavirus, I know that’s probably not realistic but like I said I’m panicking. Can y’all help me out and give me some info about how/why we’re gonna be ok? Please and thank you.
To non-Americans, please know we’re not all fucking stupid, we’re just trapped with the idiots who are ruining everything.

Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Abdul Momen Pre-Meeting
Tumblr media
SECRETARY BLINKEN:  Well, good afternoon, everyone. It’s a pleasure to have Foreign Minister Momen here with us today at the State Department, and important to take account of the fact that the relationship between Bangladesh and the United States has grown tremendously over the last 50 years – economically, our people-to-people ties, work that we’ve been doing more recently on everything from climate to health, which we very much value. And we also deeply appreciate Bangladesh’s remarkable generosity to more than 1 million Rohingya refugees that they have been taking care of. We’re committed to continuing to work together, to find ways to strengthen and deepen the relationship, to address as well economic development and human rights. And of course, we’re looking – the world is looking – to Bangladesh for its next elections, to make sure that they set a strong example for free and fair elections for the region and for the world. But Abdul, welcome.  It’s very good to have you here.   FOREIGN MINISTER MOMEN:  Thank you.  Thank you, Secretary of State, for your invitation to meet you to strengthen our relationship between U.S. and Bangladesh and to solidify the relationship. I am so thankful to you.  And Bangladesh and USA has multifaceted, dynamic, and wide-ranging relationship.  And over the last 50 years we have done really well, and we look forward to future 50 years. Recently, when we were observing our 51st anniversary independence day, President Biden sent a very warm letter to our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  And he stated, and I quote, “USA and Bangladesh achieved a lot together.” He ended his letter with a very special word, and it is – the word is, Joy Bangla.  Means, “Victory to Bangladesh.”  It signifies our sacrifice of 3 million lives for our independence, for upholding democracy, human rights, justice, and human dignity. We are thankful to President Biden, and our prime minister has also sent a letter to him which I shall hand over to you today. Secretary Blinken, you also made a wonderful statement during our independence, and I would like to quote you. You said, “Bangladesh has many reasons to be proud .  With a rapidly growing economy, an increasingly well-educated workforce, and a dynamic youth demographic, Bangladesh is quickly becoming a regional leader.” You added, “The United States is proud of its partnership with Bangladesh and of the resulting achievements made over the last five decades.  Most , we have made real strides together battling COVID-19.”   I agree with you.  You are also the – we need to all achieve with your support and active partnership, and we are proud of your partnership.  And we look beyond in the future, so that we can have more better days in future. I am here to develop, strengthen, and solidify our relationship.  Thank you, Your Excellency. SECRETARY BLINKEN:  Thanks, everyone.   Sources: THX News & US Dept. of State. Read the full article
