I’m having post-Thing crash and I’m grumpy about it, but I found this snippet I wrote in the comments on TNOL and I don’t think(??) I ever posted it here, so, here it is.

“Caleb, please, I - Caleb, no, don’t - Caleb! This is highly unbecoming - no don’t look at me like that - help!?”


This last, with an exasperated sigh, was directed at Jester, doubled over with laughter nearby, rather than down at the ovine creature that was at present attempting to digest his clothing.


Jester managed to stifle her giggles, though her lilting voice was still thick with mirth.

“Esseeeeek, he liiikes you! You should totally give him pets, I bet he’s sooo soft.”


“Jester. I cannot give Caleb pets.”


“Sure you can! Just pat him on the head, you know? He won’t mind, Cayleb is very schnuggly as an animal.”


Jester’s eyes were bright with mischief and her grin was sharp, and Essek knew he’d never hear the end of it - but if it would at least distract Caleb long enough to extract his cloak…


The dense wool was spongy beneath his hand, and his fingers sunk surprisingly deep. The texture was odd, not as coarse as it first appeared - rather silky, in fact.


Essek sighed. Jester was right. It was very soft.

【環遊世界行前】環遊世界前要做的35件事(上)：如何開始準備、機票、預算

自從2011年環島回來而決定環遊世界後，這幾年努力存錢、研究、看著別人出國的照片流口水，再偷偷擦乾口水，終於，也到了我環遊世界倒數100天出發的日子了！

與當時環島不同的是，這次多了一個人陪我環遊世界，是一路以來一直在生活上、心靈上支持我，還會督促我存錢的男朋友 - 阿光伯。

我們兩個人一起依照「環遊世界聖經」這本書的建議，擷取環遊世界前最需要準備的35件事，且看我們如何把以下35個準備做足，完成就可以出發囉～

1.下定環遊世界的決心

2011年，一個人以「劈腿女孩Yaya(芽芽)」單車X火車方式環島回來後，開始下定決心環遊世界！

2013年，決定讓阿光伯加入一起環遊世界。

2015年，存好35萬旅行基金，即將準備出發！

2.牆壁上貼上世界地圖

這是下定決心後，最需要做的事，就像考生把想考上的學校貼在書桌前一樣，在房間牆壁上貼上世界地圖，能夠更加堅定想完成這件事情的決心，也會努力找方法完成這件事。每天看著世界地圖，一邊在腦中規畫即將迎來的環遊世界旅程，在房間享受當一個白日夢冒險王！

3.訂出旅行主題

看了許多旅遊達人長途旅行主題，如943的省錢旅行、Terry的烏克麗麗微笑旅行、挪威知名的背包客企業實習生旅行…每一個人都把自己的創意與興趣融入旅行當中，讓我和阿光伯也開始想著：什麼是屬於我們的旅行主題呢？

 由於我們曾經短暫一起組過樂團，這次想在世界各地體驗當街頭藝人的感覺，訂定為［伯芽環遊世界走唱之旅］！一邊旅行一邊走唱，相當好奇各國民眾對街頭藝人的互動回饋是如何呢！此外，也希望回國後有部份走唱賣藝的收入，能夠捐贈給台灣的家扶基金會、尼泊爾的未來之村學校和柬埔寨的Tnol Trong Village學校，這是以自己接觸過的兒童慈善團體為對象，每個人若有心都可針對不同機構服務或捐贈。

當然也會剪輯我劈腿女孩的環遊世界劈腿照喔～

4.訂出想去的旅行地

這一題可就難倒我們了。

「想去」、「可以去」、「去得起」，選擇環遊世界旅行地時，必須選擇包含這三個要素的國家或城市，也就是根據旅行地的治安、天氣、花費、環遊世界路線是否順暢等…綜合考量下，選出適合的地點。

想去的地方實在太多了，低頭看看自己扁扁的荷包，還是要有所取捨阿！後面會繼續分享最後選擇的旅行地。

 5.參加旅遊者聚會

除了自己埋首苦苦研究該去哪裡好，借鏡旅行者的經驗也能讓視野更開拓：好友Susan旅遊土耳其、以色列等地三個月，還一個人坐上行經巴基斯坦的防彈玻璃公車，讓我對她的勇氣讚歎不已；晶晶旅行南美洲一年，提款卡未遺失卻被盜領的驚魂記；朋友在歐洲不得已跳火車的經驗....以及透過嘉宏大哥介紹，認識《獨行在邊境》作者廖芸婕，聽著她在邊境旅行的心得分享，以及有幸聽著她下一步的計畫。每一個身旁朋友的旅遊經驗，都讓我這個背包客入門者多長了一點知識。

此外，背包客棧上眾多背包客分享洋洋灑灑有趣、被騙、被扒的經驗，或是收看國家地理頻道：行騙天下節目，也讓每個國家的黑暗面完整呈現。獲得越完整的資訊，都能讓旅人在旅行的同時，能夠多一分警惕！

6.訂出環遊世界路線

選出想去的地點後，依照前進路線(航線、行車路線、火車路線等)進行沙盤推演，這時候還是要放開心胸，原本想去的國家可能在此階段被刷掉，當然也會加進其他國家。針對與旅行者討論，參考背包客棧等論壇的意見分享後，都可以再微幅調整。最後…千呼萬喚使出來，終於決定此次環遊世界路線：

台灣→香港、澳門→柬埔寨：金邊、吳哥窟→土耳其：伊斯坦堡、卡帕多奇亞、安塔利亞、棉堡

→西班牙：巴塞隆納、瓦倫西亞、馬德里→法國：坎城、尼斯、馬賽、里昂、巴黎

→秘魯：利馬、庫斯科、馬丘比丘→阿根廷：布宜諾斯艾利斯、伊瓜蘇→智利：聖地牙哥、亞他加馬沙漠、復活島

→美國：達拉斯、紐約→香港→台灣

雖然還是很多想去國家沒有排進去，但只要先踏出第一步，隨之而來的驚奇之旅就會自然地展開！

7.探讀有關旅遊地的書籍、蒐集有關環遊世界的網路訊息

一開始從網路開始蒐集旅遊地點的資訊，多數部落客們的文章都相當圖文並茂、背包客棧也有許多背包客的經驗分享，但旅遊資訊如：如何去，何時去，注意事項有哪些等等，則每人說明內容不一，或資訊不夠齊全、不夠系統性，所以也開始參考「旅遊書」以補足網路的不全。簡單比較兩種方法的優缺點：

書籍：

優點 - 有系統性、景點資訊完整、內容編排較有邏輯

缺點 – 需到書店、圖書館翻閱才知道是否符合自己的需要，較花時間、出版日期可能較久遠，資訊不夠新

網路：

優點 - 隨時可查詢、網友心得可當注意事項參考、背包客棧會提供延伸閱讀等網站與書籍資訊

缺點 - 較無系統性、文章敘事性較多，要整篇看完才知道資訊、國人較少前往的旅遊地資訊較少(例如南美洲、尼泊爾等地)

不論採用書籍或網路蒐集資料，都有其中的優點可幫助到旅人，所以建議一自己的需求合併使用。

蒐集資訊的同時，我和旅伴阿光伯也有開啟雲端資料，最常使用的就是GOOGLE雲端的EXCEL，以環遊世界的內容區分出許多頁籤，有行程總表、準備事項總表、依國家分類的各旅行地行程表…等等，用雲端資料可以隨時存取、隨時更新自己查到的資訊，讓旅伴可以隨時查看，省去檔案傳來傳去還有不同版本的問題，當然，旅行中用到的隱私資料(如護照號碼等)還是要另外存放，雲端資料還是有個資外洩的風險。

以下也分享幾本書籍，在這次查資料的過程中覺得很受用的書籍：

《環遊世界聖經》、《尼泊爾，玩全祕笈》、《沒錢都要去柬埔寨》、《法國玩全指南》、《搭地鐵玩紐約》

 8.向家族和同事通報、說服、徵求同意等

這一關，相信是許多旅人心中最忐忑的一件事。不同於歐美壯遊Gap year風氣的盛行，台灣許多父母面對兒女的壯遊，還是抱著憂慮的心情，所以我常跟朋友說：「叛逆要趁早」。這裡說的叛逆當然不是翹家、做壞事等那種莽撞的叛逆，而是讓父母知道：「我是大人，我可以好好地照顧自己」的那一種轉大人的叛逆。舉凡一個人在外地生活照顧自己、自���處理生活瑣事、自己出去小旅行、自己去環島…幾年來我做了許多事，讓家人知道他們眼中的小女孩已經可以把自己照顧地很好，所以在環遊世界這件事，媽媽雖然還是不免擔心，但也很鼓勵我出去看看。之後再加上阿光伯決定同行，有了旅伴互相照應，也讓家人放心不少。

除此之外，學生若是休學一年，則需要考慮對課業、人生規劃的影響；而上班族可就要考慮長途旅行是否會影響職涯規劃。工作上必須徵得公司同意留職停薪，或者毅然決然離職，都得看每個人自身的狀況來規劃了。回國後對生活、工作上的安排，也必須提出計畫跟家人討論，讓家人安心，每一次誠意地溝通，都能讓自己的環遊世界夢想獲得更多人的認可與支持。

9.檢查路線、檢視當地狀況(危險國、禁止旅遊國)

選定旅行地點後，依照旅行交通方式(例如：環球機票)串聯各地的行進方向，看看是否適當。

此外，這幾年我也比以前更加關注國際新聞，因為每一則新聞都可能影響我前往當地時的安全性，例如西非伊波拉病毒、法國與澳洲的恐怖攻擊、尼泊爾的強震等等，

各種天災人禍都可以當作是否前往旅行的參考。原本預計4月購買的的環球機票，因尼泊爾突如其來的強震，讓原本安排好所有行程的我們相當掙扎，觀光地古老建築物的損毀雖不影響我們前往的熱情，但原本預計服務十多天的尼泊爾未來之村全毀，也讓我們對於沒有協助重建專業的自己前往服務是否適當，或是反而會給正在復原中的學校帶來困擾而產生兩難。最後，在與尼泊爾當地其他志工討論後，我們選擇改以捐贈方式協助，待學校復原後再前往教學服務。

10.選定環遊世界機票、決定主要移動方式

開始研究環遊世界的方法後，首先最需要知道的資訊就是：環球機票。

這是由全世界各家航空公司組成的航空聯盟，所提供的環球機票服務。簡而言之，就是可以讓你從點到點環遊世界一圈的16段(至多)航段機票。知名的航空聯盟有：Oneworld寰宇一家(台灣是國泰航空)、金城武代言的星空聯盟(台灣是長榮航空)等等，想出發環遊世界的人可以到各家聯盟網站尋找想去的國家是否在該航線中，當然也可以搭配陸路、海路等方式移動。而近年流行的廉價航空，當然也不失為一種選擇，各有優缺點，詳細介紹下去又可以寫一大篇心得了，往後再做完整介紹。

此次選擇Oneworld寰宇一家是因為它最重要的航線特色：南美洲及復活島！這讓對摩艾石像一直有相當憧憬的我嚮往不已，也希望藉此機會前往祕魯探索馬丘比丘上的馬雅文化！

11.編制全部的預算

經過研究後，深深覺得在存款不多的情況下，想要旅遊多個國家最划算的方法，就是環遊世界！一來，購買最多16個航段的環球機票約15萬元，已經比台灣前往南美洲、歐洲、美國的來回機票加總更便宜了，(雖然書上寫約11萬，但研究後發現環球機票竟然一年比一年貴，要出發要快啊！(淚))二來，環球旅行中從亞洲、歐洲、美洲慢慢前往的方式，在時差調整上也較能適應。

於是環島回來後，離家在外地工作的我，即使在外租屋一個月將近1萬元的房租，也要想辦法省吃儉用完成存錢計畫。此外，善用短期定存、注意外匯，以及研究旅行支票用法、國外信用卡刷卡匯率等功課，都能讓自己的存錢計畫更早完成。但畢竟我不是這方面的專家，有興趣的人還是可以向其他金融達人請教囉！

這次環遊世界預算編制如下：

環球機票：15萬元

亞洲24天：約2萬元

歐洲43天：約11.5萬元

南美洲36天：約8萬元

北美洲25天：約3.5萬元

總計約40萬

2016更新：環遊世界結束後，總計花費35萬/人

透過Oneworld 網站規劃環遊世界路線，可選擇由東向西、由西向東，兩種方向完成環遊世界一圈的航線。其中還有一些特殊規定，例如：不能超過16個航段(包含轉機)、同一洲可不限東西向飛行、跨越洲際後不可重覆回前一洲、開票後更改時間或航班地點有不同的收費等等。

在跟國泰航空專業窗口聯繫將進3個多月後，終於把環遊世界路線底定，並訂定寰宇一家的環球機票，終於在出發前100天順利開票囉！

但千萬別被開票的快樂給沖昏頭，記得依照環球機票給你的16組訂位序號，到每一家航空公司網站劃位喔！

Happy Wednesday! This is my last WIP Wednesday, because next week the final chapters of TNoL go up and it will be a WIP no longer…but in the meantime, we have Ch 33:

…Fjord leans around Caduceus to catch Essek’s eye.

“It’s occurred to me that…I’m not saying that no one’s looking for us, but that was rather opportune. You could go home; it was Trent and the Volstruckers that were on our tail before.”

Jester pauses her painting and looks up, frowning. “I think it was the entire Assembly, though, because Vess is still missing, and she was with us. I think they think we killed her?”

DeRogna. He had forgotten about DeRogna. How could he have forgotten about DeRogna?! It was barely a week ago that the Nein had shown up on his doorstep and informed him, while he burnt his tongue on hot whiskey with cocoa, that one of the three Dwendalian Archmages with knowledge of his involvement with the Beacons had been assassinated on their watch, and he had forgotten.

He is beginning to sweat when Caleb speaks up, brow furrowed. “There could also be Volstrucker in play who are already working under orders.”

Essek has changed past all self-recognition over the course of this adventure, because ordinarily, mention of the possibility of assassins hunting him would be cause for alarm. Instead, a small bead of warm feeling begins to thrum in his chest, resonating to the subtle undercurrent in Caleb’s words, to the sound of Caleb offering reasons why he should not go, yet - as though he might actually have meant, if Essek but dared hope, please stay.

He clears his throat, doing everything he can to keep his voice level, to keep the tremor of anxiety and hope and fear and relief out of it. “Then maybe it's best you clear your names.”

“Ja, we’ll help the Clays clean up their home,” Caleb begins ticking tasks off on his fingers. “Bring our friend over there in,” with a flapped hand at Ikithon, tied to his tree, unconscious. “And then the hard work begins,” he finishes, looking at Beauregard.

She nods across the circle at him. “When you’re ready.”

“Very well,” Essek says, inclining his head, but in his heart, he means yes, I’ll stay…

Final part of the [OC-centric] October challenge I was doing for Jesse and Tim!

For Jesse’s endgame, it’s been a while since I’ve thought about it, but I think it ends up wrapping up nicely with monsters and humans having to learn to live together. Jesse’s a lot happier, too. Not suuure how he manages it, but he does!

For Tim and Ratman’s endgame, I have a hard time deciding which one I like better, honestly, but I do think that the separation one is the “True Ending”.

Borderlands AU - (Deep breath)

Tim’s a Hyperion scientist working in Helios who was shoved in a tube and Got Skagged. Lyra was forced into becoming an artificial siren, but it went awry, creating Liysael (they rescued Tim and teamed up as accidental Vault Hunters).

Sol WAS The Warrior in the vault till he was discovered by Bob (a Hyperion worker in Helios), was like “I wanna tag along with you”, shrunk down into a more manageable form and got brought up to Helios to take a tour.

Abby (who I haven’t discussed in detail over here, they’re a demigod from my D&D campaign) was The Traveler in the vault that was discovered by two random people who were decidedly NOT Vault Hunters. They just got lost (Oz and Cere, the goblin and cat in that pic). Abby’s pretty amused, and VERY confused, by this.

Iggy and Marilyn (twins) were living a pretty cushy lifestyle, working in Helios. Then Marilyn decided he wanted to be a bandit on Pandora, snatches Iggy away, and they crash land to cause mischief. Somehow they end up stumbling across Pom.

I can’t remember, I think Roy may have already been a bandit at this point? Either way he does end up eventually meeting Boom.

It’s all a good fun time, don’t worry.

Sun/Moon God AU -

Details weren’t too solid on this one, but essentially Tim was a Moon God, Sol was a Sun God, unnamed bodyguard (Ratman) protected Tim, something occurred (like a solar flare or super nova) that Tim had “eclipsed”, which ended up killing him and reincarnated him as a mortal being. Sol and unnamed bodyguard (who decided possessing and reconstructing a rat was a good idea) came down to the mortal plane to try and get Tim back upstairs with them, but he had forgotten who he was before. Shenanigans ensue.

Among Us AU -

Tim, Oz, and Cere were space explorers who caught a distress signal from a GINORMOUS abandoned space station (with a LOT OF dead bodies on board among clear signs of a fight). The three got separated and Tim finds a kid (Lyra) hiding out and tells them to go to their ship for safety. Meanwhile Oz and Cere ended up exploring the ship on their own.

It turned out that Abby (an extremely powerful, chaotic God-like alien) had escaped from their planet, wanting to explore the galaxy. Liysael (an extremely powerful God-like alien as well) was sent out to get them back into containment. Sol (also an alien) was like “Wait, a ticket out of here, I’m following along”. A fight happens on board when both Abby and Lisyael clash, killing everyone on board except a lone kid, who Lisyael latches onto.

Abby, in fear and desperation to not be taken back, mistakes Sol for Lisyael, who Tim had bumped into after sending Lyra off to their ship. Abby get enraged at this and tries to kill Sol, who saves Tim after whisking him away from the situation (freaking Tim out cause OH MY GOD, YOU’RE ON FIRE). However Abby gets one last hit in, infecting Tim with a creature that, if it senses they’re too close to Abby, will try to keep Sol as far away as possible (Ratman).

Elsewhere, Oz and Cere are exploring the space station, getting into things and noting their findings (with Abby closely monitoring them, being outwardly annoyed by their gross little human forms). Eventually the three meet up, and Abby expresses explicit disinterest until they nearly get into life-ending trouble. Having grown attached to the pair, he does the only thing he can think to do: turn them into weird aliens to save their lives. It works, but he can’t turn them back. :/

Eventually Lyra (possessed by Liysael) meets up with Abby. Not sure how, but it’ll work out and this crew of aliens and humans-turned-aliens and humans-with-aliens-in-them will make this space station... into a space home. 🥺
