Okay, hear me out. This is my Lin Beifong’s House MoodBoard.
Some headcanons for Lin’s House:
For years Lin had an apartment downtown near Police HQ. She and Tenzin split up around the same time that Toph left RC, which was somewhat serendipitous. The house Lin and Su grew up in was now vacant and left for Lin to sell or rent out or whatever- Toph didn’t care what she did with it, she just didn’t want to deal with it. (I HC Lin is pretty much in charge of all of Toph’s finances even during the time they weren’t speaking.)
So, Lin is left with this vacant house, which is located out in the foothills (near the Satos, for reference) - close enough to the city to commute in quickly, but far enough that she is less accessible to the gossip columnists at the newspaper!
So, instead of selling Toph’s house she moves into it and fixes it up. For the neighborhood it’s a pretty modest house, only one story on a huge plot of land, nestled in the trees, with trails in the backyard leading into the mountains. I think something like this would have suited Toph’s taste and in time, Lin’s taste as well.
I think Toph would have selected this location in the early days of RC because it was ‘out of the city’. The city has since encroached on it a bit, but it’s still very quiet and private, being up in the hills. Ultra-rich status-conscious people moved to this ‘neighborhood’ because they wanted to be seen as being in the same league as Toph Beifong so the neighboring homes are gigantic estates with mansions etc.
Lin keeps a very clean house, which is especially easy since she’s not there very much!
She has A LOT of books. Like, a lot of wall space is taken up by bookshelves, but that’s not well depicted here so just go with me on this.
She doesn’t have any family/friend photos on display (at least not until after book 3 of LOK, at which point she starts hanging some up uwu) All of her furniture is pretty simple, elegant, but most of all v comfy.
She turned Su’s room into an office lol. Every spring she starts a garden and never keeps it up, only to bend it back into a plot of dirt sometime in mid-summer when all the plants are dried up.
