I wonder how much criminal trouble Owen would actually be in if what he did was found out. When Robert initially asked him to help, Owen hesitated because he didn't want to take a life, but Robert assured him that he wasn't asking Owen to kill him, but just be there, clean up the evidence, and be the one to "find" him. At the very least, I guess Owen would be lying to medical professionals and potentially police...there would probably be a police report, right? Maybe some kind of destruction of evidence, but it's evidence of a suicide, not murder, so it doesn't seem all that serious of a crime. He didn't have a legal obligation to stop Robert from killing himself. Not that this makes it not traumatic for Owen to go through, of course! I just don't think there will be any issue of potential criminality on Owen's part, especially considering the "logic" of this show. Like if Carlos can threaten a man with a gun and almost kill him and not get into any kind of legal trouble, I think Owen is safe, regardless of whether he tells TK and/or Carlos about it!
Owen absolutely, 100%, broke the law:
Code Section Health & Safety 166.45-51 Euthanasia Condoned in Statutes? Mercy killing or euthanasia is not condoned or authorized by Texas law, nor is any act or omission other than to allow the natural process of dying.
I had to Google this and about a dozen prompts for Samaritans and helplines popped up. So yay for that I guess?
Owen was aware of what Robert planned to do. Failure to intervene, the omission of action, makes him guilty.
Owen watched as his brother ended his own life and did not intervene to save him. That makes him guilty because he did have a legal obligation to stop him. One could even argue that his role as a First Responder meant he had even more of a duty to preserve life.
The plan was (and we assume carried out) that Owen would remove the evidence that Robert took his own life, which is as its simplest terms him covering up a crime.
Owen absolutely broke the law. No arguments, no room for doubt. And, unlike Carlos, done with rational thought and planning.
(Carlos was still in the wrong, but there are degrees of wrong.)
Robert wanting to end his life is one thing, and I get why he wanted to do it while he still could. I get why he wanted to do it at Owen's so his family would be spared finding him (in time or too late, neither option is enjoyable). Plus Life Insurance policies pay out for terminal illnesses, not suicide. This way his family are saved from the pain of knowing he deliberately took days away from them, from the guilt of not finding him in time, and they are financially taken care of. It's why he couldn't just check himself into a motel or throw himself off a bridge. He needed to die "of his illness" to tick all the boxes and that needed help.
Now disclaimer: I get why suicide and attempted suicide remain against the law. If there is a crime in progress then it means emergency services can force entry into a locked property. In an ideal society it would not result in any charges being pressed against the person who felt that it was their only option and they would get the help that they need.
Anyone helping them? That's the legal minefield and I am not getting into the moral rights and wrongs of that. All opinions are valid on that and I'm not about to launch into a debate on that. This isn't what that ask is about.
What Owen did, regardless of the reasons for doing it, was illegal. He assisted in the suicide of someone, did not do anything to intervene, and then covered it up by removing evidence after the event. That's prison time as the State of Texas has that on the same level as murder.
(Damn, the trigger warnings on this are plentiful. If I missed something let me know.)

* META WARNING : DARK & MATURE THEMES ( SEE TAGS ).
Tumblr media
thinking about the last two years of a.rthur's former military career tonight, and the team he selected for project s.omnacin from his platoons, and the GUILT he feels over being responsible for placing them in that kind of unpredictable and impossible danger. of how he took it upon himself in the end when the tests started to escalate - to go to the 29 marines that remained ( 34 selected alongside their captain : four died during testing : one dropped into limbo and never woke up when the timer ran down ) and ask, if he could, what they wanted. of how he tucked those extra magazines into his belt and shot them all in the head while they were under, bar the three of them that were still lucid and aware and strong enough to get out. thinking about how he burned it all down, how he took everything the military had built over those years and destroyed it - and all the regrets he has because he didn't see it sooner. HE WAS FOLLOWING ORDERS, WHEN HE COULD'VE SAVED THEIR LIVES : he'll never forgive himself for that. neither will the rest of his contingent. 208 marines were informed of their captain's treason, and a.rthur has killed seven of them himself in the thirteen years he's been a fugitive. he will NEVER have the opportunity to explain what really happened to them during project s.omnacin, and he can NEVER go home.
in other words i was talking to fawn about cassandra and wally and mateo ( the survivors ), and now i'm fcking emotional. this man's backstory hurts so much i've been slowly writing it all out in detail and it breaks me. coming soon to a c.arrd near you.

Door Reviews: Forklift Load (2020)
So: simulator games. There are a bunch of them nowaday! I think PowerWash Simulator released just last year, and I hear good things about Lawn Mowing Simulator. Not to mention the plethora of Farming Simulators and Truck Simulators! It’s a genre unto itself, replicating the experience of driving specific things, doing specific things, that you would not easily get to do without significant preparation and/or expenses. With games, you just buy them, and poof, you are now able to get the experience!
A lot of them are presented as relaxing experiences. Both PowerWash Simulator and Lawn Mowing Simulator are similar in that you are to clean an area of dirt and/or grass. It seems simple, but strangely relaxing.
A similar game appeared on my radar recently, and it’s one I think I didn’t expect. And yet, the concept is just so funny to me, that I had to play it. Let’s review Forklift Load!
Tumblr media
What’s it about? You are a forklift. You heard that right, you’re not driving a forklift, you are the forklift. And you help out other forklifts and cars with whatever they need, which usually consists of bringing them fuel with your small but strong forklift arms. A tag on Steam says it’s a Precision Platformer, and that is indeed a pretty apt description, since you have to be careful bringing the fuel as there will be a lot of obstacles on the way to your goal.
STYLE (Gameplay, Graphics, Music)
Tumblr media
Gameplay involves you controlling this little senior citizen forklift. You move around and control the forklift tines up and down in order to pick up and put down any objects. Usually, these objects are supported by pallets so that you can easily pick them up. You can switch up the camera view so you can see whether or not the forklift tines can pick up the pallet properly and adjust them as needed. Controls are available in both mouse+keyboard and controller, but I do recommend you use controller for this game since it’s so much easier.
The environment of the main map is rather peaceful. It’s nice to drive around the map while the somber yet peaceful music washes over you. Pink flowers, trees, wide open fields… it’s very nice. When you get to the city proper, there are a fair amount of buildings, even. You get the impression people once lived here. What happened to them? One of the mysteries you have to uncover…
Tumblr media
In place of people, there are vehicle NPC’s that give you missions. Each mission is a platforming puzzle, where you typically have to carry fuel to a stated goal. Despite the peaceful vibe of the game, make no mistake: a lot of the missions can be so frustrating. Have you ever played Getting Over It or QWOP? This game reminds me of them, where you have to have precise movement and some luck in order to progress. You have to move in a precise way in order to get to the goal, and you have to watch out for any subtle obstacles. Even small bumps in the road can prevent you from getting to your goal.
A lot of the time I found myself so frustrated at making mistakes. And yet, I can’t stop playing! It’s great when I finally manage to complete a mission successfully, finding out the right way to navigate a path making sure that the fuel doesn’t tip out of the pallet. The physics seem janky, but they still have logic to them, and there’s always a solution to everything, even if you have to try again a lot. I guess I find the platforming design good, despite the suboptimal physics! Though again, I very very much recommend you use a controller instead of mouse and keyboard, it’s definitely more of a headache when you use the latter.
Overall, I enjoyed the vibe of the game. It’s kind of ridiculous and yet serious? Like, once you get over the initial amusement of you being a sentient forklift, you get into the groove of the game real quick. Its peaceful vibe gets dashed a bit as soon as you realize that the puzzles can get infuriating, but it’s still nice to experience the environment and music.
SUBSTANCE (Story, Characters, Impact)
Tumblr media
Real quick: if you wanna know the trigger warnings I feel I need to give for this game, scroll over to the tags.
The game opens with a scientist listening to some music, working on an AI. After that, the game cuts to you, a sentient forklift, waken up by another sentient forklift. Kind of ridiculous, right? But it’s somewhat played straight nonetheless.
The main story is presented through a series of notes. You won’t get to find them until you finish the first few missions in a couple of starting zones, after which the game drops you into the main map and shows them to you once you finish a certain quest.
Tumblr media
Each note presents a platforming challenge before you get to them. Once you get all of the notes, something in the distance unlocks, wherein you can experience the ending.
The story discusses the benefits of AI and its pitfalls, as is typical for stories that feature AI. But I find this one story strangely… innocent? In its execution and resolution. It felt just right in its length and simplicity. It didn’t really linger, and it delivered what it was trying to say well enough. Though I would have rather the dev put up trigger warnings for this, as the game does make you do something rather drastic that some people might not want to do.
I found the NPC vehicles rather cute and quirky. Seeing other forklifts, other cars, and even a bulldozer made me like the game more. It’s strange, it somehow straddles the line between amusing yet serious. I mean… it’s still a game where you play as a sentient forklift. But the game itself doesn’t play around with that fact enough I think. And strangely enough, I’m fine with that, and am happy with what I got.
VERDICT
Tumblr media
Forklift Load is a forklift simulator that makes you think about AI and the desires of humanity. It also makes you really feel the struggle of becoming forklift certified as you try and fail to deliver fuel constantly. It is a strange mix of peaceful, quirky, fun, and contemplative. I like it!
Door Rates Forklift Load: 3.5/5!

Who was the person that Blaise helped killed?
(TW: Mention of Suicide, TW: Assisted Suicide, TW:Suicide)
Greetings Anon
It's a bit complicated to explain, Blaise wonders themself if they should say "killed" or "assisted someone in their suicide." for some time they would not talk about it, but eventually they will.
It was the third year in the forced labor camp, when a young prisoner was put on the death penalty, which would have been executed by "The Butcher", a sign that it would be a very painful and agonizing death, which would last probably for hours...if not days.
Blaise was the last person allowed to visit the fellow prisoner, who was, absolutely afraid and told Blaise so honestly, there was no way to escape his fate, but he, the prisoner, wished he could die on his own terms, and not on the whim of the butcher.
I think I mentioned how Blaise had cyanide pill/capsule embedded and disguised as one of their teeth, and how they did not use it themself.
They pulled their "tooth" out, and gave it to the prisoner, telling him that he could, die on his own term, if he wanted to.
Despite the very tense and emotional situation, the prisoner was thankful, that at least his death, would be his own decision.
Blaise left shortly afterwards and when the prisoner was dragged to the place of execution, he bit on the cyanide pill and died shortly afterwards.
The old war journalist wonders, if perhaps, there could have been another way to help, but, there was no opportunity to escape or to prevent the death sentence, a quick way to die was all they could offer.
Yours sincerely
Bowler

This might be controversial to some, but you cannot "tough love" your way to preventing suicide. You cannot have the attitude that people who complete suicide are selfish or are ungrateful or immature. If your mindset about suicide isn't coming from compassion rather than judgment, it won't help suicidal people. You will never help us with a slap on the wrist and a lecture about how we're awful for even thinking about completing suicide.
Suicide intervention starts with compassion and care.

It was announced today that British eventer Caroline March has died at the age of 31 in 'assisted suicide', two years after suffering a career-ending spinal cord injury.
The farewell letter she wrote was shared on her Facebook page - moving, thought-provoking, and insightful words. It's been on my mind all day, and I think it's definitely worth a read to understand her choice from her perspective.

It just sits so wrong with me that Eddy for some fucked up reason thinks that Ruby would be okay with Jaune killing Penny because it was “her choice” and that is just so gross and further seems to glorify suicide. Eddy seems to think Ruby shouldn’t be mad at Jaune despite this most definitely being something by any normal person would or should react to. I just cannot understand the logic behind these tweets it makes no sense.

Carlos and Owen anon again! Yes I definitely agree with what you said. I definitely feel like Carlos and Owen's relationship has evolved over the years and Carlos knows that Owen genuinely loves him. I'm not necessarily expecting them to have the same relationship that TK and Owen have in terms of affection and just how relaxed they are with each other and knowing Carlos, he may well still want to please Owen in the traditional in-law way by showing him what good care he takes of TK but I do feel that Carlos is now aware that Owen wants to be there for him and support him whenever he needs it. You actually brought up a really good point about Rbert too and how Owen is definitely changed from that especially considering this is the second brother he's lost and the circumstances of it. I'm interested in seeing how this affects TK and Owen's relationship as well since TK is eventually going to find out what happened
Hello again!
Oh I absolutely think that a part of Carlos will always want to show Owen "it's OK, your son is safe with me" but hopefully Owen will make it clear to Carlos that he's already shown that, a hundredfold, and he has nothing left to prove to him. I can already see Carlos trying to "protect" TK by compartmentalising himself: the parts of himself that will need and want to deal with Gabriel's murder will need to be kept out of their home.
This may or may not be the premise of the fic idea for the line I shared yesterday.
Owen is going to be affected by what he did, and I'd be interested to see if TK finds out about it. This is one thing that I fully support Owen keeping from his son - it would put TK in an impossible position as he would become aware after the fact of his father breaking the law. Which could be a bit awks with his police officer hubby.
Having said that, the idea of Owen confessing to Carlos is now something I would be interested in seeing. "Making a decision to take a life, it changes you in ways you cannot imagine. It's different when it's in the line of work, when we lose someone. Because fate stepped in, something happened, and we turned up late and couldn't stop the last domino from falling. But when you push it over yourself? You never get away from that."
Owen has told Carlos that he has a good heart - and I know that Owen will want to protect that heart the same way he wants to protect TK's recovery.

Anyway since it's disability pride month I'd like to remind everyone that Canada's MAID program is hostile and insurance companies will and have rejected treatment options to chronically ill Canadians and with the same hand let those same patients be medically killed because it's considered cost effective.
Cost effective has no place in healthcare and is quite literally eugenics wrapped up in prettily packaged words
