Usnavi turned into a fumbling idiot the second she walked in, puddles of honey swirling in her toffee eyes. Her lips curl into a grin as she walks over to Sonny and ruffles his hair, her giggle turning Navi into mush as she greets his cousins with words he couldn't be bothered to hear.
The summer heat wave had business booming with classes out and the sun glaring bright, his eyes followed her to the frozen section, grabbing an ice cream, she walks over to the counter and this was his chance, his one chance, he figured.
She lies the ice cream cone down, pierced tongue coming out to lick over her bottom lip before she speaks, her voice matching her eyes, smooth honey, with an accent, Puerto Rican.
"Just this".
Benny waves his hand in front of a frozen Usnavi's face, eyebrow nearly touching the ceiling, quick to explain away his bestfriends strange behaviour, "It's been a long day. Navi"! He elbows his friend, whispering a rough, 'talk'.
The first words out of his mouth shock both Benny, Sonny, and the woman in front of him. Benny knew his best friend was awkward but this was humiliating, he just shook his head and grabbed the price gun, both he and Sonny deciding to work instead of witness whatever...this was.

"Did it hurt when Heaven fell"?
"I'm sorry"?
"I mean- When you- Fuck".
The pretty lady giggles and shakes her head, "Wanna try again"?
Usnavi is more than captivated, Benny and Sonny could've sworn they saw the grown man drool a little, it was like watching a puppy fumble over itself. Benny started to pity his dear friend.
"Sorry. Anyway, I'm Usnavi. That was humiliating, Can we start over? That'll be $1".
As she puts the money on the counter, sliding it towards Usnavi, she smiles sweetly, dimples denting her cheeks before she speaks to him in that soft honeyed voice once more. It's like an angel's called to him.
"You really don't remember me, do you Navi baby"?
When he hears the nickname, it all comes crashing back like waves to the shore. Little Y/n Rosario. He hadn't seen her in years, she was always three years behind him and Nina, her older sister. Always had a crush on Navi, he thought it was adorable how she'd trail behind him like a puppy. This. This wasn't Little Y/n Rosario, this was something different.
He blanks trying to come up with something to say, when he remembers everyone was supposed to meet up at Abuela's, for Nina's arrival. Nina's arrival...The youngest Rosario, who'd hailed in from PFW, and Nina were both known to be the ones who got out of the Heights, made something for themselves.
The weeks leading up to their departures were spent drinking and dancing, with celebratory parties all around.
Usnavi saw her off to the train, but back then she was just a pipsqueak, the woman that stood before him now seemed confident and sure of herself.
"Usnavi"?
"No, no, I know who you are. Just took a moment".
The young woman snorts, rolling her eyes at his attempts to act like her new appearance wasn't shocking. She was definitely a different girl than in her younger years, for one he takes notice of her piercings, and the serpent that wrapped around the length of her left thigh, eyes seeming to glow a soft pink.
"It's okay, I'm aware I look a little different than I used to, but...So do you". She cocks her head to the side, eyes running over the male curiously, "You gone be at Abuela's right? I know it'd be nice to see a familiar face".
He nods weakly, her eyes shift from him to Benny and Sonny. She waves a manicured hand to them, "See ya boys later".
"You know it", Sonny sends her awkward finger guns and they all watch her disappear out the front door. Usnavi knew what was coming.
A grin spreads wide across Benny's face, turning to Usnavi.
"You. ain't. got. no. SKILLS".

Usnavi was looking forward to the night ahead, dressing in a pair of jeans, cowboy boots, and a black button-down with two buttons left open.
That night, he couldn't stop picturing the youngest Rosario, drawn to her like moth to burning flame.
His eyes were quick to observe the room, searching for that midnight black in the sea of bodies, when finally his amber eyes landed on yours, greeting people as you entered the crowded apartment.
His eyes follow you around the room. Until finally your eyes land on him.

"Lookin' Sharp, Navi" You greet him, that same angelic smile making him weak in the knees. He'd drank a beer or two already, and blame it on the liquid courage but Usnavi could feel himself become confident in his ability to talk to you as the beer settles in.
"You flatter me, mama. Look at you, vision of perfection".
As he watches you, he manspreads in his chair, beer in hand and eyes low staring into your very soul.
"Whatchu drinkin"? You asked, walking up to him with deep brownie eyes gazing into his, he's not sure how he didn't faint then and there, that smile had him by the balls. She could make him do anything as long as those doe eyes stared all big and beautiful into his.
"Some nasty ass beer, but uh Dani brought whiskey, rum and shit. Said we could make our own drinks".
"And your ass is over here drinking piss? With free reign to rum and shit, plus the cognac and d'usse me and Nini brought"? Her hands clasped around his wrist and she sighed, "C'mon, We're gonna make this right and I'm making you some that'll knock you off your feet".
Looking you over again, he agrees. You've already done exactly that.
He follows behind you, and this time it's he who looks like the love-sick puppy.
When the two of you are away from the crowd, you grab two cups, exhaling airily, you begin to mix a few things together in concentration. He just watches you do your thing, the music playing in the background making it feel like a scene out of a movie as you playfully bumped your hip against his, the two of you laughing joyfully.
When it was finished, you presented him with a cup with a slushy-like mix in it, blue and smelling like a three-day hangover with some blue hawaiian punch to accompany it.
"Voila~"
He chuckles, taking the cup with a skeptical smile on his face. He sighs, raising a brow, "You're taking a sip first, ionno bout this, ma".
"You don't trust me"? You asked, pouting dramatically, "Fine, Give me the cup, coward".
"Ay, I'm not a coward. I'm just not a complete dumbass".
You roll your eyes, glaring at him as you move the cup to your lips, he's tuned in immediately, watching his favourite movie never seen before staring at those pouty lips of yours wrapped around the rim of the cup, gazing into his eyes with a constant, entrapping, eye contact.
His focus is broken when you scrunch up your nose at the strength of the drink, face relaxing when the flavour hits your tongue.
"Huh, strong but I like it. Here, taste".
You held the cup up to his lips, the two of you were in a house full of people and it'd started to feel like you were the only two in the room.
When it hits his tongue, the poor thing instantly coughs, his face scrunching up like he'd just eaten a warhead, but when your laugh fills his ears, it becomes all worth it. If he could hear that forever, he would.

Let Carla and Daniela tell it, You and Usnavi had been inseparable all night, the roles reversed from your childhood. Anybody with eyes could see Usnavi De La Vega was head over heels, scurrying in front of Sonny when he was about to sit next to you just so he could sit there himself.
Sonny glares at his older cousin, sitting next to Benny and Nina whilst Usnavi just looks triumphant.
"Navi you nearly knocked the kid over" Cuca scolds, hitting the boy upside his head. You snicker, but the smile that threatens to come onto your face when you realize he's doing all this over you...
"It's okay, I'll remember that next time he needs me to pick up an extra shift".
Nina pops in with a quick but swift landing exposure, sending both you and Navi's cheeks blazing red, "Give him a break, he's just in looooveee".
The table erupts into hoots and hollers, a person on either side of you or Navi shaking you both by the shoulders in excitement, there's only one party at the table who hadn't decided to make a fuss about it. When the volume quiets down, you cross your arms over your chest and playfully chide in, "And you and Benny"?
Nina gives you the middle finger, and it's her and Benny's turn to be fussed over.
The table is lighthearted, everyone's joking around and having fun. Usnavi has his arm over your shoulder most of the time without even realizing it, but he doesn't have to notice, and neither do you. Vanessa, who'd been silent most of the time, was tired, quite frankly, the only Rosario she cared for was Nina. Her glare most of the night was on you and Usnavi, Carla was the first to notice, Daniela and Cuca took notice as well.
You and Usnavi stayed oblivious, as Carla leaned over to Vanessa to ask what was going on.
This is when it all goes downhill, The women of the barrio could be gossipy, they flourished within environments of drama, thrived.
"You okay, Vanessa"? Cuca asks, louder than Carla had. There's a devious smirk on her face as the table takes notice of Vanessa's obviously plummeting mood. You wanted to ignore it, truly did, but it dawned on you pretty quickly what Cuca was doing, why Vanessa seemed so pissy.
You glance up at Usnavi who, for once, catches on pretty fast as well. He and Vanessa went...back. Back, as in, it was never meant to work out, he had a schoolboy crush, they tried to make it work, but it just...didn't.
"Ah nothin', Y/n I was wondering how Paris went? Fashion week? I'm sure you're a pretty popular girl, Got a man waiting for you back home? Maybe 2? 3"?
The table looks at her as if she'd grown a second head, Usnavi is silent, the table is silent. She takes a sip of her martini and laughs it off fakely, "Just kidding guys, Just. Kidding".
This is what you'd been telling your sister about since you were younger; Nina never quite got the picture because Vanessa was her best friend, she wanted to believe she was a good person because that's all Vanessa allowed her to see. The angel of the barrio, the prettiest too.
Oh, how the mighty had fallen. Your sister raises an angry brow, she looks at you with a familiar questioning 'You got this' expression, and for once, for once since you'd found your voice, you nod.
"We broke up, bout 4 months ago, didn't work out with the two of us. But...I'm moving back, and that's all that matters".
Again, the table breaks out into a thunderous roar of hoots and hollers at the news of you staying.
Vanessa looks furious.

After the party had died down, and thinned out. You and Usnavi stayed behind to clean up, help abuela to bed, and lock up.
When all is said and done, you head out onto the fire escape, drinks in hand. You felt comfort in the silence, looking over to see Usnavi felt the same way. It was nostalgic in a way, reminded you of the night before you left, sharing a beer on the fire escape, praying abuela didn't wake her ass up to see the two of you drinking, yet you never stopped or went somewhere else.
Abuela's place was the safest for all of you.
"You feel it too"?
"We was out here sneaking and drinking not too long ago". You nod, laughing lightly, your knees knocking with his just. like. then.
"And now you're in magazines, looking beautiful as ever".
"And now we're both a little older, little more in tune with who we are".
Usnavi smiles, his eyes leaving the night sky to look at you.
"And we know what we want now".
Your breath hitches, looking up at him now, his hand comes out to tilt your chin up, make sure you're looking at him directly. He leans in, barely a breath away.
"Do we"? You ask, voice soft, sweet.
Usnavi chuckles, his lips ghosting over yours.
"Mhm...I think we do".
Your lips finally touch.
Magic.

Pablo Neruda - Usnavi de la Vega
Request: no
Summary: reader has a crush on Usnavi and invites him to dinner. Just a bunch of fluff really.
A/N: I don't even know for sure how long this has been in my notes. Literally found it the other day and figured it was high time to finish it and post it here. Even if no one really cares about In the Heights anymore.
Broadway Masterlist
✳︎ ✳︎ ✳︎ ✳︎
The sight behind the counter shouldn’t have been a surprising one. It was more common than not that you would find Marco here, chin just level with the counter despite the stool that Usnavi let him stand on. He thought the bodega was the coolest place on earth and frequently told the owner that when he was Sonny’s age, he too would work there.
His Spider-Man bike was chained up outside, evidence that he’d ridden straight here after school despite your constant reminders that he needed to come home first.
“Someday I’m gonna report you as a missing child…they’re gonna think Usnavi kidnapped you.” You remarked, the bell jangling as the door shut behind you. The fan set up in the corner blew passed you as it oscillated, trying to keep the store cool in the early heat of June. You took quick stock of what you could see, noting the absence of any adult supervising your seven-year-old. “Speaking of, where is Usnavi?”
“The cooler broke again,” Marco replied. The thud of his small feet hitting the floor echoed in the space and he came around the counter to hug you, “I got a gold star on my story about Puerto Rico,” he mentioned, pulling away to go retrieve the paper that had already been pinned up to the bulletin board behind the counter. No doubt Usnavi’s doing.
“Wow, that’s so great baby,” you took the papers that were stapled together, looking over the story that he’d recited to you three times that morning. “You’re like a little Pablo Neruda.”
“Who?” Marco took the papers back, hanging them in their rightful place once more. A couple of his drawings accompanied the story. Once Usnavi had even hung a spelling test up so everyone could see it. You appreciated the sweetness, the willingness to help whenever you needed it, having someone around that your son could rely on, but it didn’t stop the occasional pang of something indescribable in your chest. You didn’t want Marco to get his hopes up…god knows you kept waiting for something you were sure wasn’t going to happen. Despite Carla constantly insisting that Usnavi had feelings for you.
“Yeah, feelings of friendship. Feelings of ‘look at this poor pathetic girl I’ve known my whole life, still can’t make it out, got a kid now cause she was too stupid to see when her boyfriend was lying to her.”
“Trust me, the only thing Usnavi’s thinking with when you come in the store is-“
“Oh god Carla!”
But you couldn’t help feeling more than a little hopeful everytime you saw one of Marco’s tests or drawings hanging up, as if Usnavi was just as proud as you were. As if Marco had a dad (or at least a father figure) who actually cared about him.
“Pablo Neruda wrote love poems,” Usnavi’s voice sounded from behind you. “He’s your mama’s favorite.”
You turned to look at him and he winked as if the two of you were co-conspirators. Like you were in on the same secret and it made your heart pick up speed just a little bit.
“Who else is gonna write me love poems?” You managed to say, rather proud that you’d even mustered a sentence together.
The smile didn’t leave Usnavi’s face, even after you turned back to Marco and told him to get his stuff together so you could go home. While you were used to the moaning and protesting that usually accompanied this request you were rather taken aback when Marco hopped off the stool without question and started gathering his school supplies off the counter.
“Can Usnavi come over for dinner? He said Sonny’ll be here soon to help and that means he wouldn’t have to hang around too…can he?” Marco asked, eagerly, looking to Usnavi, “do you wanna come over for dinner?”
“You’re going to abuela’s for dinner, remember?” It was Wednesday and Wednesday meant dinner with your ex’s mom.
“Well, then you and Usnavi can have dinner.” He suggested, toothy smile (minus a noticeable one in the front).
You thought about saying that you were more than positive Usnavi had better things to do than come over to your place and eat dinner with you but your mouth worked before your brain could intervene and suddenly you heard yourself saying, “what’d you say? Wanna have dinner with me?” to Usnavi.
Maybe it was the heat or the work trying to fix the cooler that had him flushed but you swore he looked almost nervous when he nodded his head, like the offer was too good to be true. “Yeah, definitely.”
Usnavi wasn’t one to get his hopes up. Benny constantly swore that you were basically in love, (“you’re practically raising Marco together, now if you could just get together”), but Usnavi didn’t want to take the chance and look like a fool. Not to mention, he liked Marco a lot and he didn’t want you to think he had some ulterior motive for being nice to your son. He wasn’t expecting you to want to be with him and he didn’t want you to think he was.
You told him seven o’clock and he got there at 6:45, standing at the bottom of the stoop and contemplating the flowers he’d brought. You didn’t say it was date or even imply that this was anything more than you offering a meal while Marco was at his abuela’s. Maybe you just didn’t feel like eating alone. Or maybe you felt bad because Marco had offered dinner and you didn’t want to be rude. Maybe the flowers were overkill, maybe you were allergic.
“You stand outside all night, you’re never gonna get a chance,” Daniela teased as she walked passed him, bumping her hip against his playfully.
“We’re just having dinner,” Usnavi didn’t bother to ask how Daniela already knew about the dinner. No doubt everyone in Washington Heights knew about dinner.
“Yeah?” She plucked a flower out of the bunch, “hoping for dessert?”
Usnavi choked on his reply, swallowing down the last bout of nerves and heading up to the door before Daniela could continue teasing him. You were on the second floor, the black and white tiled hallway was missing a piece right beside your door and when you complained the landlord told you there was nothing he could do. Now a large pot sat over it with monstera growing next to a welcome mat that you changed out for the seasons. It was getting close to valentines and the mat had red and pink X’s and O’s.
The green door was cracked open, a “come on in” gesture that Usnavi had encounter a few times before when he’d offered to keep Marco while you worked and then walked the boy home at the end of the night. He rarely saw you without your son and it occurred to him as he pushed the door open that this would be the first time he was at your place without the seven year old buffer leading the conversations.
“Uh, hey, the door was open,” Usnavi offered as he walked in, shut the door behind him, and walked further into your apartment. He was still holding the flowers, down by his side, their petals directed at the hardwood floor.
“Hey,” you moved away from the frying pan to give him a hug, laughing gently at the sight of the bouquet. “Are those for me?”
“Oh, yeah, sorry,” he apologized, whipping them up so fast a few petals fell off. “Daniela stole one, actually.”
“Well they’re beautiful, thank you.” You took the bouquet from him and Usnavi watched you move around the small kitchen, grabbing a vase and filling it with water and arranging the flowers. He thought about something Abuela Claudia had told him years ago about knowing when he was in love and he turned away, looking around the rest of the small space as if he’d never been in it before.
“Sonny didn’t mind watching the store I hope,” you mentioned, looking for something to say. It felt different without Marco there. Not the sort of different that made it awkward, despite you grasping for something to say, but the sort of different that felt like talking and having dinner were the furthest things from your mind. The sort of different that had you thinking Daniela and Carla and everyone else in the Heights that had an opinion on it was right.
“As long as I bring him back something,” he replied. He’d made it to the bookcase near the front door, looking through all the books at eye level first. Pablo Neruda caught his eye and he took the book down, skimming through the pages.
“Whatca got there?” You asked, coming over to look around his shoulder at the book he was holding in his hands.
Usnavi tilted his head to look back toward you, “estás aquí. Oh, no te escapes," he began, reciting the poem as you stood there listening, dinner forgotten. His voice was smooth, the way it always was but somehow different too. Sweeter, like honey.
That different sort of feeling that you were trying not to fall into settled over you as you listened to him read. You couldn’t take your eyes off him, and when he finally reached the end of the poem and he looked over at you, the fall you were trying to avoid suddenly crashed over you.
“...quiero hacer contigo lo que la primavera hace con los cerezos,” he recited, eyes meeting yours.
“¿Es así?” You were only just barely aware of Usnavi placing the book back on the shelf, the thin volume of poems falling to the floor from its haphazard placement. He turned into your space, kissing you without hesitation.
Benny always said he was too slow, that he overthought all of his actions before he did them, and that what he needed to do was just act. It wasn’t advice he ever actually took. Usnavi just wasn’t the kind of person who acted on impulse. And then all of the sudden he was holding your face in his hands and kissing you in your living room. Impulsive, absolutely. When you finally pulled away, only to catch your breath, Usnavi smiled. That irresistibly boyish smile that always gave you butterflies. “Dinner?” He asked, only to avoid any more impulsive acts like telling you he loved you.
“Dinner can wait.”
The door to the apartment slammed open and Marco came through, kicking his shoes off as he called out, “Mama! Mama!”
Behind him, the door shut, his grandma stepping into the kitchen and looking suspiciously over the food that was left on the counter, still in the pan though the oven was off. The door to your bedroom was open and before Marco could make it that far you appeared in the hall, holding a zippered sweatshirt closed, semi-nervous smile on your face.
“Hey baby, how was dinner?” You asked, hovering near the door of your room.
“Abuela made dulce de leche! I brought you a piece!” He held the tupperware out toward you proudly, “Is Usnavi still here?”
“Uh, he’s...he’s in the...” you floundered, trying to think of something to say. He was very much still there, on the other side of the open door, pulling his clothes on as fast as possible.
“Why don’t we put this in the fridge Marco,” your ex’s mother suggested, taking the tupperware back from you and putting her arm around your son’s shoulders, “wait for your mama and this Usnavi to join us.”
If you didn’t know you’d hear an earful from her about almost getting caught by your son, you would have thanked her for intervening when she did. Instead you just ducked back in your room, closing the door so you could change quickly, clocking Usnavi standing there with a massive grin on his face.
“Don’t smile at me like that,” you whispered. An empty warning, really.
“I don’t know what you mean,” he replied, grin still in place.
“Come on, I still owe you dinner.” You held the bedroom door open for him to go out first, “and now we’ve got dessert too.”
Usnavi stopped in the doorway to kiss you, “I’ve already had mine.” When you smacked his arm he only laughed and continued into the kitchen, Marco’s excited greeting putting a smile on your face as you walked into the kitchen after him.
✳︎ ✳︎ ✳︎ ✳︎
The poem Usnavi reads is Pablo Neruda's Everyday You Play .
Translations:
estás aquí. Oh, no te escapes - you are here. Oh you do not run away
quiero hacer contigo lo que la primavera hace con los cerezos - I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees
¿Es así? - is that so? / it's like that?

prom? (sonny x reader)
hi !! missed me ?? back with more of our fav kid en el barrio :) its prom season someone be my date /p !!
Tumblr media
“Okay, we have to get this perfect! I am not letting Pete one up as at our senior prom!!” Sonny exclaimed as he hit pause on the music playing from his phone. Your guys’ senior prom was in a couple of days, and the two of you desperately needed to catch up on your dancing skills. So, you decided that the best option was to practice.
“Agreed,” you said, attempting to catch your breath after dancing to whatever song Sonny was playing from his phone.
“Can we take a break first?” Sonny said, dramatically breathing in and out to emphasize the point that he was tired. You nodded and collapsed onto the floor behind the bodega, sitting on one of the steps there and chugging the water Usnavi had given the two of you moments ago.
“So,” you started, after catching your breath. “Do you have a date to prom?” you asked, getting straight to the point.
Sonny shook his head, pursing his lips.
“I thought you said ‘No one can resist the De La Vega charm? No?”” you teased him, slightly punching him in the leg as he moved to sit down next to you.
“No, no I just didn’t ask the person I want to take yet,” he admitted, leaning back next to you. Changing the subject, he quickly asks you, “Do you have a date?”
You also shook your head, “The person I want to go with hasn’t asked me yet.”
“Ask them,” he said in all seriousness, “call them right now.” He smirked and raised an eyebrow, as if challenging you to do so. You stared at him with an unbothered expression on your face, raising your own eyebrow.
In reality, you were scared out of your mind. What if they said no? What if they embarrassed you in front of your best friend?
“Bien, I’ll call them,” you said, giving in to the little staring contest the two of you were having - silently one upping one another. Ignoring Sonny’s victory dance, you reached into your backpack and pulled out your phone, hands shaking just a little. You pulled up his contact and clicked the call, putting the phone up to your ear.
!!!! Sonny’s own phone started ringing from his bag. He silently cursed in Spanish as he went to find his phone, annoyed that he was missing this moment of you asking your amante to prom. He answered the call without viewing the contact information.
“Hola? What’s up?” he quickly asked, annoyance seeping through his voice at the caller on the other side of the phone.
“Hola,” you said, simply. He glanced at you confused and you took that as a cue to continue talking. “I was wondering if you wanted to go to prom with me?”
He grinned and glanced at you, before looking down at his nails. “I have to check my schedule, I’ll get back to you,” he said before ending the phone call.
“Que?” You said with mock anger, staring at him.
“I’m just kidding chica,” he muttered, “of course I’ll go to prom with you.”

ITH/SPN - Miracles Do Happen Part 1/2
A special request for @kikabennet and @thisstableground. We got to talking about how in an ITH Supernatural AU Ruben would be Castiel, so I’ve decided to do a little condensed two-shot about it! Hope you enjoy!
Usnavi was killed and brought to Hell. Four months later, he’s brought back to life. And the culprit seems a bit friendlier than anyone was expecting.
Usnavi never imagined his life would end up like this.
Well, the whole thing about supernatural entities being real was something he was used to, but waking up after being certain he had died and gone to Hell? That was definitely a new one.
First, he was in Hell, being tortured, and then the next thing he knew he was in a pine box and clawing his way up from six feet of dirt from a barely marked grave.
Now he was staggering back towards home, as his grave was in a place he recognized. Well, he did remember dying, so the grave made sense. But that meant he got resurrected and that meant...oh hell no.
No, he didn’t, Sonny wouldn’t be that stupid, not after Usnavi did the exact same deal for him a year ago! Maybe Vanessa or Benny? No, surely they knew better, right? Right?!
Usnavi picked up the pace until he somehow made it back to the barrio and found himself in front of the bodega. It was locked, of course; still just a bit too early to be opening time. Then again, the place hadn’t had many consistent hours lately.
Thankfully, Usnavi (somehow) still had a spare key in his pocket. The last thing he wanted was to break into his own store. He staggered inside, relishing the familiar scent and feel of the building before helping himself to two bottles of water, chugging them in record time. He even grabbed a few candy bars and munched on them when his eyes fell on the newspaper, specifically the date. Usnavi picked it up and stared at it; it had only been four months since that night?!
Suddenly feeling overwhelmed, Usnavi felt his body, specifically his chest and stomach. He had felt it; felt the Hellhound’s claws rip into him, the tools of torture from the demons in Hell. And yet...he felt no pain.
Lifting his shirt and looking down, any injury he should’ve had was gone! He did, however, feel a slight sting on his right shoulder. Usnavi went to the small bathroom and gazed at his reflection as he lifted his sleeve, revealing a large handprint, burned into his skin. That was certainly new…
“Hello?!” Usnavi froze at the familiar voice. Sonny…? “Whoever’s in here, I got a bat, and I ain’t afraid to use it!” That’s right, it was opening time now...and Usnavi had left the door open. He had taught Sonny well.
“It’s okay!” Usnavi called; he heard Sonny suck in a sharp breath. Usnavi slowly exited from the bathroom with his hands up to see his baby cousin. Sonny’s eyes were wide and disbelieving as he slowly lowered his bat.
“Hey, mijo…” Usnavi said tearfully. Sonny said nothing, and Usnavi was ready to move forward for a hug, but he should’ve realized how it probably looked when someone who you saw die suddenly reappears.
Sonny yanked out his small silver pocket knife and charged at Usnavi.
“Sonny!” Usnavi yelped and ducked out of the way. Sonny ran at him and Usnavi barely stopped him from running him through. “Mijito, it’s me!”
“Fuck you!” Sonny spat. Well, guess it was safe to say that Sonny wasn’t behind his resurrection (thank god).
Usnavi threw him off him and hurried behind the counter as if it was a barrier, “Wait wait wait,” He held up his hands, racking his brain for a way to convince him. “Your name is Sonny Mateo De la Vega, my parents took you in when you were born after your Mom was killed by a demon, you’re the closest thing I have to a son!”
Sonny seemed to hesitate, his eyes shining with unshed tears, but the kid was stubborn.
“Sonny, I’m not tricking you!” Usnavi rolled out of the way as Sonny kept running at him.
“Stop hiding behind my cousin!” Sonny screamed, tears starting to leak out. “My cousin’s dead! Has been for months!”
Usnavi finally managed to grab Sonny and wrestle the knife out of his hands, causing the boy to fall against the counter. “Sonny, it’s really me,” Usnavi said calmly. “Look, if, if I was a monster...could I do this?” He showed Sonny his hand, and gently cut himself with the knife, drawing blood. Sonny stared at the sight.
“I’m not a shapeshifted, ghost, revenant, nothing,” Usnavi continued. “I’m not even a demon, you can test for that too if you want.”
Sonny slowly got to his feet and shakily reached into his pocket, pulling out his flask of holy water. He splashed some on Usnavi’s face, and nothing happened.
Usnavi wiped the water away and tears started to roll down Sonny’s face. “...Navi…?” He croaked. Usnavi only nodded and pulled the boy in the tightest hug imaginable. Sonny returned it in kind, softly sobbing into his shirt.
They stayed in the embrace for a good few moments until Sonny broke the silence. “The others are gonna freak…” He sniffed.
“Wait...so no one brought me back?” Usnavi asked, pulling away slightly.
Sonny looked up and shook his head, “We tried,” Sonny said, wiping his eyes. “We tried everything but...not even demons would bargain with us...so we thought…”
Usnavi pulled Sonny back into the hug, thoughts now swirling in his brain. If a human didn’t make a deal to bring him back...what did bring him back?
Usnavi’s reunion with Vanessa, Nina, and Benny, went about the same as the one with Sonny. Only with Sonny being there to help keep one of them from murdering Usnavi, the situation was cleared up much quicker.
Benny and Nina both had pulled him into tight hugs and Vanessa kissed him deeply, trying to keep tears back. But after that, there still came the issue of who brought Usnavi back.
They sought out a fortune-teller who Nina was friendly with, but the poor woman took one look at whatever did this, and her eyes were burned right out of her skull.
After that, it was clear that they were gonna have to meet this thing face to face.
So a few nights later, Usnavi and Benny put together a small summoning ritual in Benny’s apartment, also ready with weapons, including a special demon-killing knife that hadn’t failed them in the four years they started this journey.
They performed the summoning ritual and waited, and after a while, just when they were about to deem the summoning a failure, the lights flickered. The wind began to howl, rattling the windows, and the presence of a figure could be felt moving slowly towards them.
The door flew open and the lights blew out. Usnavi and Benny winced from the wind as a figure made itself known in the doorway. The being looked human; very human in fact. As the being walked inside, they made out dark hair, a goatee, and a rumpled lab coat over a plaid button-down shirt.
As they took in his appearance, they barely realized that he had walked right over the demon circle with no effort at all. They backed away and Benny subtly grabbed the knife from the table behind his back. The being only seemed interested in Usnavi, as he looked at him expectantly.
“Who are you?” Usnavi managed.
“Well, um,” The being shuffled his feet. “I’m the one who got you out. Of Hell.” ...Really? This was the one who got him out? Who burned out that lady’s eyes? This puppy-eyed scientist guy?
Benny wasted no time striding forward, “Thanks for helping my buddy,” And he raised the knife.
The being flinched and cried out as Benny plunged the knife into his heart. The being shook and whimpered, but not from pain, from fear. “You scared me!” He exclaimed, glaring at Benny with the knife still in him. He pulled the knife out and threw it away, “Don’t ever do that again!”
“What the fuck…?” Benny breathed, taking a few steps back. The knife did nothing?! What was this thing?! The being then moved quickly towards Benny, and Usnavi let out a gasp as two fingers were pressed to Benny’s temple, making him collapse.
“Benny…!”
“I’m sorry, but we need to talk,” The being said, glancing at Benny. “Alone.” He had his hands up in front of him in a cautious gesture. “No more knives, okay? Please?” There was a bit of a pleading edge to his voice.
Usnavi didn’t answer, still too shocked by everything that had just happened. The being seemed to take that for a positive answer and started wandering around the apartment. Usnavi then barely remembered that Benny was on the floor, not moving.
Usnavi ran over to his side and checked his pulse with shaky hands, melting when he found it.
“He’ll be fine,” The being said, who was looking curiously at some house plants. “He’s just asleep.”
“Who are you?” Usnavi managed.
“Ruben,” The being answered.
“N-No...what are you?” Usnavi asked.
Ruben looked at him, “Oh, I’m an angel.”
Usnavi felt his eyes grow huge in disbelief; angels? Real angels, like from the bible? “A real one?” He squeaked.
“Well I mean, what else could get you out of Hell?” Ruben shrugged, chuckling awkwardly. “If you don’t believe me, then…”
Thunder crashed and Usnavi flinched as the shadow of two dark wings appeared on the wall behind Ruben. Nothing they had ever encountered had wings like that. But could this really be true?
“But you...you burned out that lady’s eyes…!”
Ruben suddenly looked worried, “Is she alive?”
Usnavi blinked, “Uh...yeah, just...blind.”
Ruben deflated, “Good; I warned her not to look. Seeing an angel’s true form and heard their true voice can be...overwhelming.”
“Then...how am I talking to you now?”
“Oh, uh,” Ruben looked down at his body. “We need vessels to communicate with humans so...I found one.”
Usnavi immediately backed away. “You’re possessing someone?!”
“It’s not what you think!” Ruben resolved quickly. “Angels have to ask permission to possess someone, and even then only a select few people can hold us! This man he’s...had it rough, he was willing to let me inhabit him, I swear on his life and mine.”
This was all way too much to take in; they just discovered a new species and Usnavi wasn’t used to learning all the basics from the monsters themselves. “
Are you okay?” Ruben asked nervously. “Am I going to fast for you?”
“Just...give me a minute…” Usnavi swallowed. “Angels uh...we don’t really get a lot of...friendly monsters…”
“Technically I’m an ethereal being, but I see your point,” Ruben said softly, wringing his hands. “We haven’t been sent down here in centuries; not everyone’s first job is to raise the Righteous Man from Hell.”
“But...why?” Usnavi asked desperately. “Why did you get me out?”
Ruben seemed to swallow nervously, “Because...God commanded it,” He said. “It wasn’t your time; you have more to do. I can’t tell you much, but something big is coming. Both for you, and your cousin Sonny.”
Usnavi sucked in a breath, “Wait, what does Sonny-”
There was a flutter, and Ruben was gone in a blink.
(Part 2 will have more Ruben, I promise XP)

Summary : A sweet morning between Usnavi and Vanessa
Tumblr media
He couldn’t believe this was actually happening.
It had been a year.
He still couldn’t help the giddy smile playing on his face.
“Good morning Usnavi.” Vanessa murmered, a yawn escaping her. Usnavi smiled, hugging her gently. “Good morning mi vida.” Vanessa grinned, snuggling into his chest. Usnavi gently played with her hair.
Vanessa giggled, tired eyes looking up at him. “You look adorable, love.” She said, pointing to the smile he couldn’t bite back. Usnavi chuckled, a blush spreading across his cheeks. “Gracias.”
Vanessa smiled at him before turning to the clock on the wall. “Mi amor you have a bodega to get too.”  Usnavi groaned, though kissing her forehead all the while. “I don’t want too...” He trailed off, Throwing his head back in annoyance, causing Vanessa to laugh.
“You have to.” Usnavi rolled his eyes playfully, “Well i own the bodega, so technically...” Usnavi grinned. Vanessa chuckled, lightly slapping the boys arm.
“Provide for me Usnavi.” Vanessa teased, a smirk on her face. Usnavi chuckled. “Maybe if you let go of me i will.” Vanessa’s eyes widened, a blush growing on her face.  “Sorry.” Vanessa smiled sheepishly, letting him go. “Hey it’s fine, i love cuddling you.” Usnavi kissed her forehead, getting  off the bed.
“Te ves tan caliente.” Vanessa looked Usnavi up and down, causing him to blush again. “Shut up.”
Vanessa grinned, “No, solo estoy diciendo la verdad mi amor.” Usnavi’s blush only grew. “Shut up before i make you shut up.” Usnavi threatened playfully. “Pero te ves tan guapo.” Vanessa whined, though squealing in surpise as Usnavi jumped back on the bed. “Okay okay! I’m sorry! Lo siento! I was just complimenting you!” Vanessa tried reasoning, though she realized it wouldn’t work as Usnavi shot wiggling fingers at her sides.
“Okay, Okay! I get it! Usnavi!” Vanessa attempted grabbing his hands, Though futile as Usnavi merely continued. “Pero te ves tan lindo así.” Usnavi teased, giggling along to Vanessa’s laughter. “Usnavi!” Vanessa screeched. Usnavi laughed letting up.
“Dios mío, Usnavi you’re so mean!” Usnavi smiled, getting back off of the bed. “Come on love! We have work to do!” Usnavi headed for the closet. “Usnavi..” Vanessa whined, though getting off the bed as well.
“Yes mi vida?” Usnavi smiled as Vanessa stood next to her, joining him in the search for clothes. “I hate you.”
“Sure you do.” Usnavi rolled his eyes, giving a gentle kiss to her cheek. Vanessa giggled.
“I love you.” Vanessa muttered, returning the kiss.
“Te amo mi amor.”

hey heaven! welcome to the wittimg world (love your name by the way!) so I have a request - angst #3 with usnavi, sonny and latina fem!character. where sonny crashes at usmavi's place and notice he isn't sleeping in his room anymore (which he thought is normal because when usnavi feels overwhelmed by his parents memories he sleeps on the couch) but this time it's different... usmavi usually has these insomnia phases where sonny can hear him going back and forth in the loving room. but truth is, usnavi is haunted by the memory of a girl from his past but he can't remember who she is and where it takes place even if it happens over and over....
Ghosts Of A Lover Unknown. (Usnavi De La Vega x Latina Fem!Reader)
Genre; Angst.
Warnings; very very sad usnavi, worried sonny, insomnia, hints of past life themes, if everything is in italics, it means it’s a flashback!, open ended (interpretation is up to you).
Synopsis; #3 “If our empty bedroom bothers you so much maybe try sleeping in it one day, Blank”.
↳ ❤︎ Heaven’s Baked Goods (Masterlist) ❤︎
↳ Heaven’s Drabble Menu ❥❥
A/N: Thank you for welcoming me to tumblr writing world! I used to write on wattpad but I like tumblr a lot more, actually. This is such an amazing plot, btw. I love it so much, thank you for this request. I hope my interpretation of it is to your liking, lovely! Also, thank you for the compliment, my mama and cousin picked it out for me :D.
Tumblr media
“Stop”!! You squealed, running away from the water Usnavi sprayed on you.
“Come back here, Mujer” Usnavi laughed, chasing you with a water balloon and hose in hand.
“Not today, Satan”! You kept running, when you finally stopped; Still. Frozen in front of Usnavi with a confused and curious expression, repeating one sentence.
“Usnavi, you okay”? You asked, over and over again much to Usnavi’s confusion, until finally you came and punched him in the shoulder, “Bro, are you okay”!?
That was the last thing you’d said before Usnavi snapped back into reality to see Sonny standing in front of him, eyebrows furrowed with worry. This was the 2nd time this week Sonny had found his cousin pacing while stuck in a trance— He hadn’t stayed in his room in days and Sonny was frankly a little tired of his pacing when he was trying to sleep.
“Huh? Yeah, yeah. I’m good, Son”. Usnavi gave a weak exhausted smile. For most of his life, Navi had been plagued with insomnia, it kept him up for nights on end but this? It was different. For the past few months he’d been having flashbacks, visions, of this woman. He didn’t know who she was but her face was vivid in his mind, someone of his past he gathered— His heart felt tight whenever he remembered, er, tried to remember her. It was like she was a missing puzzle piece that he had to find, but he couldn’t remember her name to even start a search.
“Yeah, that’s why you’ve been sleeping in the living room for the past month and pacing like an idiot for the past two days? Believable”. Sonny scoffed, running a frustrated hand through his hair, exhausted himself with his cousins antics.
Usnavi sighed, Son was right. But, he couldn’t sleep in there— The nightmares, flashbacks, and visions were even worse in his room, at least in the living room he wasn’t in a king bed that seemed to be missing a woman from his past inside it. “It’s just…too empty in there. I can’t sleep in my room right now. Go to bed, ight? You’re working the register tomorrow at the bodega”.
“If your empty room bothers you so much, maybe try sleeping in it one day, Usnavi”.
If only it was that easy, Usnavi thought. He shook his head and sat down on the couch groaning into his hands— He was frustrated, the more he couldn’t remember the woman in his flashbacks, the more he longed for her.
“Just- Go to bed. I’m good man”.
Sonny rolled his eyes and finally walked away back to his own room.
“Papi, open your eyes” Your voice came out in a singsong way that sounded like honey to Usnavi’s ears. He opened one eye, his hands on your hips and a smile gracing his freckled features.
“It’s so early, Mi Vida. Come back to bed”. He groaned, rubbing soothing circles into your sides, something he’d done as a habit since the first day you’d gotten together.
“Nuh unh unh. I made you breakfast, Baby Boy. Eat with me”? You jut out your lower lip, booping your boyfriends nose; Usnavi sighed, he could never resist your pout, patting your thigh to let you know to let him up, he smiles in defeat making you squeak happily.
Usnavi woke up in a cold sweat, screaming into one of his pillows in pure frustration. The first time he’d slept in his room in weeks and the dreams had started back up, each one frustrating him more than the last. He had to find you.
~•~~•~•~~•~•~~•~ + ~•~~•~•~~•~•~~•~
Sonny was getting worried about Usnavi more each day, when he’d found out they’d had a neighbor moving in Sonny thought it’d be good for Navi to socialize and meet new people; Maybe just maybe, it’d get him out of this funk he was in.
“Come onnnn. She’s cute. Her and her mom just moved in”.
Usnavi was skeptical. He didn’t want to meet anyone— Not if they weren’t her. But he didn’t even know who “her” was. Maybe Son was right, he hated that he was right but he finally agreed, preparing some cupcakes; Store bought, the man can’t bake for shit. He and Sonny set off to meet their new neighbors…He hoped he could seem the least bit interested in what was happening while there.
When they arrived at the neighbors and rang the doorbell, Usnavi was anxious. Honestly, he’d rather be trying to find his dreamgirl but since it was unlikely; He’d appease his cousin and meet the neighbors instead. When the door opened, an older Cuban woman appeared, smiling politely at the two boys.
“Hello, I’m Terry. How can I help you boys”? She asked sweetly, reminding Usnavi a bit of Abuela with the comforting tone of voice in which she spoke.
“Uh, I’m Usnavi and this is my little cousin Sonny. We just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood and bring you some cupcakes”, Usnavi spoke nervously, swallowing thickly. It wasn’t hot, but Usnavi could feel himself sweating a little.
“Aye. You boys are so handsome. Why don’t you come in? My daughter and I were just sitting down for tea. Wait a sec. Aye, Mija! Get yer ass down here to meet our neighbors”. She yelled out for someone, and sent a playful eye roll the boys way as a ‘see what I have to deal with’? They both gave a small awkward chuckle in response.
“She’s so shy, my daughter. Y/n! Hurry”!
~•~~•~•~~•~•~~•~ + ~•~~•~•~~•~•~~•~
Usnavi didn’t know why the name had struck something within him but suddenly he was even more nervous, sweating harder than before.
“Please, ma. I’m right here. Sorry about that. Hi, I’m…Y-Y/n” the woman introduced herself before seeing Usnavi and freezing to her spot.
The air was knocked out of Usnavi’s lungs, he and the woman stared at each other in shock. It was her. The woman from his flashbacks. The woman who’d been plaguing his dreams and messing up his sleep schedules. As they stared at each other, it all came back to him; Not only their old romance, but their old lives— He’d remembered each and every one of them and from the look on her face? So did she. They’d promised to search for each other after each life ended, he couldn’t remember at first but now he did. She was there. She was real.
His Y/n.

A/N: Ahhh. I hope this is to your liking, beloved!

Frozen & Forgotten (ITH)
This little piece was inspired by an amazing fic called Unnoticed by @pumpkin-spiced-scribbler! This is dedicated to you, my friend, for inspiring me to shake the dust off my old writing skills. I am so glad to be your new friend and I hope we continue on this way! <3 - K. ((this is part 1.))
The clock struck 4:00 and Sonny decided it was time to make a move.
“...I’ll get back to you as soon as possibl-”
Voicemail. He hung up.
“Lo siento, no contesté el teléfono-- Sonny, put the damn condoms back on aisle 6! It ain’t funny to put them on your fac-”
Sonny hung up again. His mother and his cousin hadn’t answered the phone. And he had called them both maybe four times and gotten voicemail each time. That meant there was only one way to get home from school.
By foot.
Seven minutes into the walk and Sonny couldn’t feel anything except the ache of disappointment in his chest.
The wind howled, piling up snow in drifts, blinding the evening with ice-white dust. The park was covered in a thick blanket of white, statutes peeked out under their new white caps, footsteps and paw prints crisscrossed each other around the labyrinth of paths. Sonny found himself wondering who the fuck was walking their dog in the heart of a blizzard, in below freezing weather.
Aside from the brown of the denuded trees, the only other color were the cars rushing by; each family warm inside their Toyota’s, Christmas music blasting as they glanced at him in pity and then turned their eyes to the roads. The air was frozen, a whip against his skin, the harsh tearing winds seeming sink icy pins and needles into his exposed flesh. The sky is flushed grey, the light coming off the freshly falling snow with a blinding brilliance.
It wasn't a pleasant coldness. It made him walk faster, bracing his head against the wind. No matter how warm the blood was in his veins, he could feel his face get frozen all the same. He found himself silently praying for one of the thick icicles to fall and knock him unconscious.
The first tear fell because of how damn cold he was. He wore a measly coat, it was grey and had no hood. He wore a red long sleeve shirt underneath and a pair of jeans that were soaked through. He didn’t own boots, so his broken down sneakers and socks took a beating as his toes numbed against the burning cold. He had no gloves, he had given them to Pete, and now his hands ached from the cold. The ache had reached his heart.
The second tear fell because the bodega was so far from the school. Normally took the train, but with the slick conditions, he found all lines of the subway were delayed or shut due to bad weather conditions. The only reason school hadn’t shut down because teachers really believed he needed his education, and he loved learning so he hadn’t minded going in, that morning. Aside from kids dropping like flies from a strain of the flu, because the were packed into the humid halls like a giant petri dish of bacteria, he enjoyed these few weeks of school before break. But as he walked, he mulled over each interaction that day. The only conclusion is that he should’ve stayed home and it was too late for that. So he walked, and the wind knocked him around like he weighed nothing more than a piece of paper. He wanted nothing more than to be in his mother’s arm, or to be fed by Abuela’s comforting hand or to fall asleep against Usnavi’s chest as he watched some old timey Christmas movie. And he had none of that.
The rest of his tears fell in the name of betrayal. It was Usnavi’s turn to pick him up. Mama was at work, working her shift. She did him the pleasure of riding with him to school on the A-Train because his stop was on her way to work. She rode in with him this morning and then during lunch got a text that she was working her next shift at her second job, and they had shut down all the trains for the night and that Usnavi would pick him up. And where was Usnavi? He didn’t even know. When Usnavi picked him up, he shut the bodega early and borrowed Mr. Rosario’s little Honda and would wait outside for him. But today, Usnavi and the little silver Honda was nowhere in sight.
Sonny sniffled, his wet hair sticking to his forehead. There was no use in trying to move it, because  his curls would just flop into his eyes again. He could see the dispatch in the distance, and it was dark inside, so that most likely meant Benny was sitting in the bodega with Usnavi, drinking hot chocolate and talking about taxes or whatever adults discussed.
Sonny stopped at the stop sign, about to cross when a car sped down the street. The car hit a dip that was full of muddy melted snow and sent it spraying in Sonny’s direction. Yelping, Sonny stumbled back, and fell into a pile of snow as the muck rained down on him. He cursed, and made his way to his feet. The rest of the walk was a blur as he stormed to the bodega in fury.

Heyyy!! If you don’t mind can you do a sonny x reader where the reader is from the rich and proper side of town and sonny takes her to the heights and she has a blast!!
ANON YOU GENIUS!! i love this idea, but im afraid i might not have done it justice :(( still, i hope you enjoy!!
Uptown Girl (sonny x reader)
summary: sonny teaches you what fun is - washington heights style
Tumblr media
“Remember! You guys have two more days to finish and turn in your final project!!” your history teacher called out as your whole class sat down in their chairs, anxious for the teacher to stop talking. You adjusted your clothes as you sat down and pulled out a notebook. It was nearing the end of the semester, and everyone was itching for school to be over and for summer to arrive with the promise of going swimming, building sandcastles, and having no homework. Your mind wandered off with fun activities you could do that summer, within reason. Your parents were very strict on you, wanting you to sustain a clean and refined image to your peers and your neighbors. Sometimes you wished you didn’t live where you did, maybe societal standards would be different somewhere else. Maybe, if you lived somewhere else, your parents would let you have a water balloon fight or some other ‘extravagant’ activity like that.
Realizing that you were drifting off topic and was still in class, you turned back into the teacher. “Today is a work day everyone! Get with your partner and work on the project!” your teacher announced as she sat down in her chair, opening up her computer and grading her other classes’ work. You nodded and rummaged through your pencil pouch to find the colored pencils you needed for your project. You heard someone drag a chair over to your side and you looked up, seeing a grinning Sonny de la Vega leaning one arm against your desk, cradling his face in his hand.
“Hola (Y/N)!” he exclaimed as he noticed you finally saw him. You couldn’t hold back the grin that came across your face. What can you say, Sonny’s grin was just that contagious.
“Hi!” you said as you pulled out the colored pencils and placed them on the desk. Sonny pulled out the poster for your project from his backpack. You mentally took a step back and looked at the poster, it looked to be almost done.
“Hey, it looks like we’re almost done!” you said as you handed him half of the colored pencils to color in the final bits of the map. He nodded in response to your comment.
“I bet if we don’t slack off or whatever, we could finish by the end of this period.” he said, looking up at the clock to confirm his words.
“I guess we better get started” you stated as you started to color in the map with the remaining colored pencils. As the two of you worked, you talked about summer plans.
“So, any fun plans for this summer?” Sonny asked you as he finished coloring the eastern half of the map with the green pencil.
“No,” you stated simply, “just staying at home and studying.” Sonny hummed in empathy as he grabbed the yellow pencil from your side of the desk to color in a spot you had missed. “What about you?” you questioned back as you gently took the yellow from Sonny once he was done coloring that spot.
“Just working in the bodega with my cousin and messing around in the heights.” he said, another smile spreading across his face at the thought of letting loose and having fun.
“Sounds fun!” you exclaimed, happy for the boy. “If I mess around my neighborhood, all I would get are judging glares and condescending whispers.”
He paused in his coloring. “For real?” Seeing your nod and following sigh in response to his question, he shook his head. “That’s BS man! You’re only 16! You should be allowed to have fun!” he ranted, outraged at your proclaimed state for the summer.
“I’m used to it.” you shrugged as you put the purple colored pencil down on the table. “Are we done?” you quickly interjected, changing the subject momentarily. Sonny took the poster into his hands and held it out.
“I say we are.” he said as he rolled the poster back up. “Amazing artwork by the two of us, Da Vinci could never.” he proclaimed as he took the rubber band you offered him and effectively tied the poster shut.
“Of course,” you agreed. “So we can turn it in?” you asked Sonny as you put your colored pencils away. He looked at you through the hole the poster had made once you rolled it up.
“Yup!” he said, you glanced up at the boy and saw his eye wink through the hole. Shaking your head and smiling, you gently grabbed the poster from his hand.
“Let’s turn it in!!” you exclaimed, glad to finally be done with this project and effectively, this class. Sonny nodded his head excitedly as he followed you up to the teacher’s desk.
“Done?” your teacher asked as she took the rolled up poster from your hands. You both glanced at each other, then nodded. “Good job you two! You guys are done for the rest of the year!” your teacher replied to your nods. You both high-fived each other and went back to your seats. Sonny slumped down onto your desk and grinned.
“Finally,” he said, “That was my last final for this year.”
“Same” you quipped as you put your stuff away and zipped up your bag. You leaned against your chair and stared at Sonny who was drawing shapes into the desk with his finger. Suddenly, he sat up and looked back at you. “What?” you said, startled at the sudden shift in mood.
“Do you want to come down to the Heights with me after school today? I don’t have to work today, and I can show you how much fun summer is with me!!” he half-shouted, thoughts racing at the fun things you could do together.
“I don’t know…” you trailed off, thinking about your parents and what they would say.
“C’mon!” he persuaded “You just said you don’t have any more finals for this year!! You have nothing to do after school.”
You thought about it a little bit more. What was the worst that your parents would do if they found out? They would probably ground you. Deciding that you could deal with being grounded you smiled at Sonny. “I’ll meet you in front of the stairs after school.” you said as the bell rang, signifying the end of class.
“Bet” he said, smiling at you as well as you both left the classroom and went opposite ways to your next classes.
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
After school, you walked outside and glanced around for the sight of the Hispanic boy you were meant to meet up with. You spot him over on the side, talking to one of his friends. You pulled up your bag and started to walk over to him, seeing him wave goodbye to the other person.
“Sonny!” you exclaimed when you were two or so feet away from the boy. He looked in your direction and smiled when he spotted you.
“(Y/N)! Are you ready to have the time of your life?” he genuinely asked you as he looked at you with a pointed look. You grinned and nodded, linking your arm in his outstretched one. He grinned and started dragging you towards the heights. “Then let's go!”
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
After a 10 or so minute walk, you reached a small, rundown neighborhood - that was bursting with life. You were in awe of how different it was from your own neighborhood. Colors seemed brighter here, there were more sounds, more smells, everything just seemed a lot more there. You watched as Sonny waved at so many different people's lives that they were old friends.
“Hola!” he shouted out at a man in a brown suit leaving a store. The man waved back at Sonny and shouted back.
“Hola Sonny!” Sonny grinned at the man and grabbed your wrist to safely drag you across the street. You both came to a stop in front of a hair salon?
“Okay, so this is the salon.” Sonny started as he opened the door. “The ladies in here are a little ... much.. But you’ll love them I swear.” he assured as he slowly gestured inside. You hesitantly stepped inside and were bombarded with exclamations and gasps from three ladies.
“No me diga!” (you don’t say!)
“Holaaa chica” (hiii girlie)
“Tu eres muy bonita!!!” (you’re very pretty!)
“Sonny, es tu novia/novio?” (sonny, is this your girlfriend/boyfriend?) Sonny nervously let out a series of nos and shook his hands back and forth to convey his message. You desperately wished you Spanish at this moment in time. The three ladies looked at him with a knowing look on their face. Fortunately for you, they switched to English.
“Hola! I’m Danila, this is Carla, and Cuca.” the lady in the middle said, offering her hand out to you.
“Hi! I’m (Y/N)” you said cheerfully as you greeted the three ladies. They all shook your hand and complimented your hair. You thanked them gratefully and complimented them back. Sonny then interjected into the conversation.
“C’mon I have more to show you!” he exclaimed as he grabbed your wrist for the second time that afternoon. You waved at the ladies behind you as the two of you exited the salon.
“They’re really fun!” you said, smiling.
“You should see them when there’s a block party.” Sonny said, laughing. You slightly smiled, not knowing what a block party was - but assumed it was a fun time. “Let’s go visit my cousin next” he declared “we can leave our backpacks there if you want.” he offered. You nodded in agreement and he grinned at you, taking you over to the crosswalk. He waved at a well-dressed girl who was sweeping outside the salon. She waved at both of you and you waved back.
“That’s Vanessa.” he whispered, leaning towards you so you could hear him better. “My cousin has a huuuuuge crush on her.” he admitted. “But don’t tell him I told you that!”
You laughed at your friend’s worry. “Don’t worry, I won’t!”
As soon as the two of you were about to cross the street, you heard someone shouting in the background.
“Ice cold piragua! Cherry, Strawberry! Ice cold piragua!”
Sonny gasped and rummaged through his pockets for any loose change or money he may have. He finally found a five dollar bill and ran up to the man who was shouting and pushing the cart. You jogged after him, not sure what he was doing.
“Hola piraguero!” he called as he came to a stop in front of the man.
“Hola Sonny!” he said as he gave your friend a high-five. “Who’s this?” he asked and offered out a hand to you, putting his towel on his shoulder.
“I’m (Y/N), Sonny’s friend from school.” you said, introducing yourself to the man. He nodded in awareness and shook your hand.
“Piraguero can I buy two piraguas?” Sonny asked the man. The man nodded and started to make two piraguas.
“What’s piragua?” you asked innocently as Sonny handed the man the five dollar bill.
“It’s this dessert from Puerto Rico. It’s kinda like shaved ice.” Sonny explained as he pointed to the cherry flavoring in the cart. “What flavor do you want?” he asked you as he took his own piragua.
“Strawberry.” you decided, and smiled gratefully when you were given the dessert.
“So?” the piraguero asked and gestured to the food in your hand. You took the spoon and cautiously took a bite, never having eaten something like this before. You let the ice melt in your mouth and smiled at the taste.
“It’s really good!” you said, grinning and eating more of the sweet food in front of you. The piraguero tipped his hat at you.
“Glad to hear it! Another success!” he said as he continued to walk down the block, chanting “Ice cold piragua!”
Sonny and you now crossed the street, armed with desserts. You approached a homey looking corner store. Sonny smiled and motioned with his face in the direction of the store.
“This is my cousin’s and I’s store.” he informed you as you got closer to the store. You nodded in understanding and stood back as Sonny nudged the door open with his hip. Immediately after entering he called out “Usnavi!!”
“Interesting name” you muttered out as you ate another spoon of the piragua.
“He got it from a boat.” he muttered back to you as you glanced at him with confusion. Unfortunately, Sonny decided that he did not want to elaborate on what he had just said. Shaking it off, you glanced towards a back door, where a man with a gray tee and a blue beret sort of hat walked through.
“Sonny! I told you, you don’t have to work today.” he reminded your friend as he ruffled his hair. Sonny put his piragua down and glanced up at the taller man in annoyance.
“I know but,” he started quickly turning to you. “This is my friend (y/n), (y/n) this is my cousin, Usnavi.” You put your piragua on the counter next to Sonny’s and stuck your hand out for the fourth time that afternoon.
“Hi, nice to meet you.” you greeted as he echoed back a similar greeting.
“So, we were wondering if we can leave our backpacks here while I show them more of the neighborhood?” he asked, rocking on his heels as he tried to appear as innocent as possible to his cousin. His cousin, however, saw right through his act and rolled his eyes. Despite that, he still agreed to Sonny’s question.
“Yeah man, hand the bags over.” Sonny shoved his bag into his cousin's hands as you cautiously gave him yours, thanking him as you did. He smiled at you and pointed towards the door, where Sonny was waiting for you.
“Have fun, but don’t break any laws.” he said, warning the two of you. You walked out of the store with Sonny, wondering what Usnavi meant by breaking laws. Surely Sonny wouldn’t break any laws. Right?
You fanned your face with your hands as the two of you trekked through Washington Heights some more. You had met so many new and cool people today, and had a lot of fun in the process too. You’d never met so many caring and upbeat people before. None of them seemed to care about their societal appearance, as many people in your neighborhood did.
“Hot?” Sonny asked you as he noticed you fanning yourself. You nodded and fanned yourself some more. Humming Sonny turned you backwards, stopping in front of a fire hydrant. “If Benny told me correctly..” he muttered out as he kicked the fire hydrant, quite hard in one specific spot. You watched him in confusion as he continuously kicked at that one spot.
Eventually, water started to sprout from the fire hydrant. Gasping, you took a step back and covered yourself with your arms in order to not get wet. Sonny on the other hand, grinned and started running through the hydrant. He noticed you slowly edging yourself away from the hydrant.
“Nuh uh!” he let out as he grabbed your wrist and dragged you into the water. “Dance with me!” he exclaimed and started to sing a little song. You stared at him as he moved his hips and arms in union, holding one hand out to you. You came here to have fun right? Whatever Sonny was doing seemed fun. You smiled and took his hand and started to jump around and dance with him until you heard fire trucks in the distance. Laughing, Sonny grabbed your hand and started to run back to his cousin's store. Right at that moment, you couldn’t be more grateful for your friend and you were definitely going to pay more visits to the little neighborhood known as Washington Heights.
i hope you liked it :) taglist and reqs open!

You ain’t got no skills
Sonny de la Vega x reader. Fluff!!!
~~~~~~~~~~
     Your pov:
     It was three days into the blackout and it seemed to get hotter every day. Most of the neighborhood would hang out at the bodega because it has a generator which meant air-conditioning. Today was no different.
     Usnavi was passing out water while whipping a thin layer of sweat from his forehead.  "Rember what Abuela always says, Patencia y Fe."
I looked up and took the bottle and gave it to abuela who probably needed it more.  "Running a little out of patience over here 'snavi."
     Everyone continued to chat and soon a migraine began to grow on me. I got up from my seat-which was Sonny- and walked to the door after saying goodbye to everyone.  As I approached the door dizziness overtook me and passed out, but not before hearing some shouts of panic.
     third person pov:
    As (y/n) began to collapse, shouts of panic filled the room.  Sonny had quickly gotten up from his place and caught the falling girl before she hit the floor.  The younger de la Vega placed a hand on the (s/c) head.  “She’s burning up!  Someone get a cold rag or water!”
     Dani had run over with an ice pack and a bottle of water.  “Mira, bring her under the ac vent.  It will cool her down faster.”
      Sonny carried the girl to the ac vent where the air was as cool as a day in fall.  “What could have happened?”
     Usnavi sat next to (y/n)’s sleeping body.  “Heat exhaustion, lack of water? It could be both or something different.”  All they could do was wait.  Wait until you woke up.
Your POV:
     An hour had passed before your eyes began to flutter open.  “USNAVI SHE’S WAKING UP!”
     “ Tengo un dolor de cabeza del tamaño de Brooklyn”
     Sonny slowly sat you up and passed you and ice-cold water.  The bottle was all sweaty and everything.  “Drink this.”
     Without being told twice, you began to drink the thirty-two-ounce bottle and didn't stop until you were about halfway done. Slowly the migraine melted away and the dizziness passed.
     “You can’t do that to me (y/n).”
    Sonny wore a face of worry and relief.  “Do what?”
    “Pass out like that.  I love you too much.”
 Wait did he just say he loves me?  “You love me?”
     A dark blush rose to his cheeks.  “I have since sixth grade.”
     “I love you too.”
     Cheers erupted from around you and USnavi made a comment about Sonny finally getting a novia.  “Usnvai you can’t talk about Sonny like that.  You ain’t got no skills.”
     “That's a double negative which means, I have skills.”  Sonny threw an empty bottle at his older cousin, which he easily dodged.
     “You know what I mean Usnavi!” Benny chuckled as the projectile landed at his feet.  Laughter and happiness erupted in the room as abuela began to warn Sonny.  “If you break her heart, Te voy a meter un chancletaso!”  You just sat there in Sonny’s arms sipping your water with a smile on your face.
